ABSTRACT The present work evaluates the effect of pyraclostrobin fungicide on the nutritional quality of mulberry leaves, silkworm cocoon production and silk fiber mechanical performance. The evaluation was performed in two consecutive years. In Spring 2015, mulberry plants were treated twice with 4 doses of pyraclostrobin (0, 100, 200, and 300 g.ha-1), 30 and 15 days before pruning of the branches. In Spring 2016, the same plants received the same doses of pyraclostrobin only 30 days before pruning of the branches. Fifth instar caterpillars were fed on treated mulberry leaves. The mineral content of mulberry leaves was determined on pruning day of the branches and 30 days before. The consumption of mulberry leaves and the mortality rate of the caterpillars fed with the treated leaves was verified, and the cocoons obtained were classified and weighed. Silk fibers were submitted to mechanical evaluation by tensile test. Morphological and physical modification were evaluated by Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). In 2015, the mortality of caterpillars fed on leaves treated with pyraclostrobin was at least 26.7% higher than the control. At 2016 even with a single application the weight of the cocoons was lower. The main variation in the mineral content was observed in Mn and Fe nutrients. Mineral intake had a noticeable effect in both crystallinity and tensile strength. Results show that the use of pyraclostrobin may reduce the mechanical behavior of silk thread up to 70%, indicating that its use is not indicated for mulberry planting aiming silk feeding.

A produção de acerola pode aumentar consideravelmente, quando suas flores são visitadas por abelhas. Este estudo objetivou determinar o grau de dependência da aceroleira cultivar Olivier, em relação à polinização entomófila, bem como conhecer seus polinizadores potenciais, por meio de análise das características florais e do comportamento da entomofauna visitante. Os insetos mais frequentes foram: Centris (Centris) varia (43,9 %), Centris (Centris) decolorata (17,4 %), Centris(Centris) flavifrons (15,6 %), Epicharis (Epicharana) flava (7,6 %), Centris (Centris) nitens (5,9 %), Centris (Hemisiella) tarsata (4,9 %), Tetragonisca angustula (2,5 %) e Trigona spinipes (2,3 %). Foi observado que as abelhas dos gêneros Centris e Epicharis coletaram óleo, enquanto as T. angustula coletaram pólen e as T. spinipes cortaram as flores. A frutificação foi maior quando as flores estavam abertas à polinização (27 % de frutos gerados), seguida de polinização manual cruzada (11 %) e polinização restrita (1 %). Não houve formação de frutos por meio de autopolinização. A cultivar Oliver demonstrou alta dependência da polinização entomófila, sendo que abelhas Centris e E. flavapodem realizar tal serviço eficientemente.

The production of West Indian cherry may increase considerably when its flowers are visited by bees. This study aimed to determine the dependence degree of the West Indian cherry Olivier cultivar, concerning the entomophilous pollination, as well as discovering its potential pollinators, by studying its floral characteristics and the behavior of visiting insects. The most common insects were: Centris (Centris) varia (43.9 %), Centris (Centris) decolorata (17.4 %), Centris (Centris) flavifrons (15.6 %), Epicharis (Epicharana) flava (7.6 %), Centris (Centris) nitens(5.9 %), Centris (Hemisiella) tarsata (4.9 %), Tetragonisca angustula (2.5 %) and Trigona spinipes (2.3 %). It was observed that bees from the Centris and Epicharisgenera collected oil, while the T. angustula bees collected pollen and the T. spinipes bees cut the flowers. Fructification was higher when the flowers were open to pollination (27 % of fruit production), followed by manual cross pollination (11 %) and restricted pollination (1 %). No fruits were obtained through self-pollination. The Olivier cultivar was highly dependent on entomophilous pollination and the Centris and E. flava bees can perform this service efficiently.

A sericicultura é uma atividade que apresenta a possibilidade de obtenção de renda em áreas inferiores a 10,0 ha, bem como a racionalização da mão de obra familiar. Mesmo considerando-se este cenário favorável ao desenvolvimento desta atividade, ainda existe uma lacuna no gerenciamento dos seus fatores econômicos, em grande parte das propriedades rurais inseridas nesta cadeia, contribuindo, negativamente, para a sua expansão. Objetivou-se avaliar o custo de produção e a viabilidade econômica para a produção de casulos, por meio de estudo de caso realizado em uma propriedade no município de Quatá (SP). Os principais resultados para uma produção de 1.904 kg ano-1 de casulos, dado que as despesas com mão de obra perfizeram 51,5% do Custo Operacional Efetivo e 35,5% do Custo Operacional Total, foram Índice de Lucratividade superior a 50% e Taxa Interna de Retorno de 9,68%, já para o segundo ano produtivo, proporcionando boa rentabilidade para este segmento agropecuário, considerando-se que a melhoria na rentabilidade do produtor é proporcional aos melhores indicadores de produção, sobretudo pelo rápido retorno que a atividade proporciona.

Sericiculture is characterized by the possibility of income generation in areas smaller than 10.0 ha and by the rationalization of family labor. Even considering this favorable scenario for the development of this activity, there is still a gap in the management of its economic factors in most of the rural properties within this chain, contributing negatively to their expansion. This study aimed at assessing the production cost and economic viability for producing silkworm cocoons, by using a case study conducted in a property located in Quatá, São Paulo State, Brazil. The main results for a production of 1,904 kg-1 of silkworm cocoons, with labor costs reaching 51.5% of the Effective Operating Cost and 35.5% of the Total Operating Cost, were a profitability index higher than 50% and an Internal Rate of Return of 9.68%, for the second production year, providing a good profitability rate for this agricultural segment, when we consider that the improved profitability of the producer is proportional to the best production indicators, particularly due to the fast return that this activity provides.

O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar se a suplementação da dieta do bicho-da-seda com extrato hidrossolúvel de soja (EHS) interfere na produção de casulos e no consumo de folhas de amoreira (Morus alba L.) de diferentes cultivares pelas lagartas. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi o inteiramente casualizado em esquema fatorial 4x5, com quatro cultivares de amoreira ('IZ64', 'IZ56/4', 'FM86' e 'FMSM') e cinco dietas (folhas não tratadas, folhas umedecidas com água, folhas enriquecidas com EHS, em três níveis: suplementação da dieta com 5, 10 e 20% de PB). O EHS foi aspergido sobre as folhas, tendo a água como agente dispersante. O consumo foi verificado pela diferença entre a quantidade de folhas fornecidas e a quantidade não consumida pelas lagartas. A ingestão de alimento apresentou-se de forma quadrática, diminuindo à medida que o EHS foi adicionado à dieta. Houve interação dos fatores cultivar e dieta. O fornecimento de folhas de amoreira com acréscimo proteico de 10% por meio do EHS melhorou a qualidade dos casulos do bicho-da-seda com a utilização das cultivares 'IZ56/4' e 'FMSM'. A pulverização de EHS nas folhas da cultivar 'IZ64' prejudicou a produção de casulos. Lagartas do bicho-da-seda, alimentadas com folhas de amoreira sem suplementação, produziram cascas séricas mais pesadas com folhas das cultivares 'IZ64' e 'FMSM'. A aspersão de água nas folhas incrementou o peso de cascas séricas produzidas a partir da cultivar 'FM86'. A suplementação da dieta com EHS diminui o consumo da lagarta do bicho-da-seda. A aplicação de EHS influencia a produção de casulos em função da cultivar utilizada.

The aim of this research was to assess if the supplementation of the silkworm diet with soybean water soluble extract (WSE) interferes on the consumption of mulberry leaves (Morus alba L.) by the caterpillars and on cocoon production. The experimental design was completely randomized in factorial arrangement 4x5, with four mulberry varieties ('IZ64', 'IZ56/4', and 'FMSM' 'FM86') and five diets (untreated control leaves, leaves moistened with water and leaves enriched with WSE, in three levels). The WSE was sprayed on the leaves with water as dispersing agent. The consumption was measured by the difference between the quantity of food provided and the amount that was not consumed by the larvae. The consumption was presented quadratic form, which decreased as the WSE was added on diet. There was interaction between cultivar and diets. Silkworm fed diets containing leaves of mulberry with addition of 10% of crude protein through WSE improved the quality of cocoons with utilization of 'IZ56/4' and 'FMSM' cultivars. The sprayed of WSE on leaves of 'IZ64' cultivar decreased production of cocoons. Silkworm fed with leaves without supplementation produced heavier cocoons shells of the 'IZ64' and 'FMSM' cultivars. Water sprayed on leaves provided higher weight of cocoons shells from 'FM86' cultivar. The WSE supplementation in diets decreases consumption of silkworm. The WSE sprayed influences cocoon production depending on the cultivar.

Em 2009, o Brasil quebrou o seu recorde de exportação de mel, gerando receita superior a US$ 65 milhões. Entretanto, existe uma lacuna nos aspectos econômicos, para grande parte dos apicultores inseridos nesta cadeia. Desta forma, levantou-se o investimento necessário para a produção de mel, em uma propriedade familiar de Cajuru (SP), com estimativas de investimento e custos de produção baseados no Custo Operacional Total (COT) utilizado pelo Instituto de Economia Agrícola, obtendo-se R$ 97.093,00 como valor total do investimento. Para a análise econômica, avaliando-se a produção de mel originária de flor de laranjeira e silvestre, o custo operacional total foi de R$ 16.400,13, considerando-se que as despesas com insumos perfizeram 70% do Custo Operacional Efetivo (COE) e 26% do COT, obtendo-se índice de lucratividade de 46%. Em relação ao ponto de nivelamento, o apicultor precisa produzir 4.659 kg de mel, ou vender ao preço mínimo de R$ 1,93/kg a produção obtida, para cobrir os custos. Constatou-se, com base no fluxo de caixa, TIR de 7,24% e que o investimento inicial retorna em 10 anos, mostrando resultados atrativos para este segmento agropecuário, considerando-se a racionalidade de uso dos fatores de produção, bem como um aumento progressivo na quantidade produzida.

In 2009, Brazil broke its own record for honey exports, generating revenues exceeding US$ 65 million. However, there is a gap, concerning economic aspects, for most apiculturists inserted in that chain. Thus, the investment needed for honey production on a home farm in Cajuru, São Paulo State, Brazil, was estimated with investment and production costs based on the Total Operating Cost (TOC) used by the Instituto de Economia Agrícola, reaching R$ 97,093.00 as the total investment amount. For the economic analysis, considering the orange blossom and wild honey production, the operating cost was R$ 16,400.13, whereas the cost for raw materials amounted to 70% of the Effective Operating Cost (EOC) and 26% of the TOC, at a profit of 46%. Whit respect to the equilibrium point, the apiculturist needs to produce 4,659 kg of honey, or sell it at the minimum price of R$ 1.93/kg, in order to cover production costs. It was possible to find out, based on cash flows, an IRR of 7.24% and that the initial investment returns in 10 years, showing attractive results for this farming segment, considering the reasonable use of production factors as well as a progressive increase in the amount produced.

O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar a ocorrência de resposta compensatória no desempenho produtivo de juvenis de tilápia do Nilo Oreochromis niloticus, linhagem GIFT, submetidos a diferentes estratégias alimentares. Foram utilizados 135 juvenis de tilápia, distribuídos em nove tanques de polietileno de 100L cada. As estratégias testadas foram: grupo controle (alimentado todo dia), grupo alimentado por cinco dias seguidos de dois dias de restrição de alimento (5A/2R) e grupo alimentado por quatro dias seguidos de três dias de restrição de alimento (4A/3R). Foram avaliados parâmetros físico-químicos da água e de desempenho produtivo. Os resultados foram submetidos à análise de variância, e as médias foram comparadas pelo teste Tukey, a 5% de probabilidade. A qualidade de água, o fator de condição e a conversão alimentar não foram influenciados pela estratégia alimentar. O grupo alimentado com a estratégia 5A/2R apresentou peso final, ganho de peso e taxa de crescimento específico semelhantes ao grupo continuamente alimentado (7,8 e 9,2g; 6,4 e 7,8g e 2,7 e 3,0% dia-1, para peso final, ganho de peso e taxa de crescimento especifico, respectivamente). A estratégia 4A/3R apresentou os piores resultados de desempenho produtivo, e a estratégia 5A/2R pode ser usada na alimentação de juvenis de tilápia do Nilo sem prejuízo ao desempenho produtivo, possibilitando inclusive redução de até 22,5% na quantidade de alimento ofertada.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the occurrence of compensatory answer on productive performance of Nile tilapia Oreochromis niloticus juveniles, GIFT line, submitted to different feeding strategies. It was used 135 juveniles tilapias distributed in nine 100L polyethylene tanks each. The tested strategies were the control group (fed everyday), group fed for 5 days followed by 2 days of food restriction (5A/2R) and group fed for 4 days followed by 3 days of food restriction (4A/3R). Were evaluated physical chemical water parameters e growth performance. Results were submitted to an analysis of variance and averages compared by Tukey test 5%. Water quality, condition factor and feed conversion were not influenced by feeding strategy. Group fed 5A/2R strategy showed final weight, weight gain and specific growth rate similar to group continually fed (7.8 e 9.2g; 6.4 e 7.8g e 2.7 e 3.0% day-1, for final weight, weight gain and specific growth rate, respectively). The strategy 4A/3R showed the poorest productive performance. Strategy 5A/2R can be used in Nile tilapia juveniles feeding without damage to the fish productive performance, allowing a reduction of up to 22.5% on the feed quantity offered.

A produção de frutos e sementes de várias culturas é favorecida quando abelhas visitam suas flores, efetuando a polinização. O objetivo deste trabalho foi estudar a polinização em moranga (Cucurbita maxima Duch. var. Exposição), no que se refere à identificação dos insetos que visitam mais freqüentemente suas flores, o tempo e tipo de recurso floral coletado e o resultado das visitas destes insetos na frutificação, tamanho, peso e número de sementes dos frutos. Apis mellifera L. foi responsável por 73.4% das visitas realizadas por abelhas, coletando pólen em 34.5 s e néctar em 43.9 s e 29.3 s, respectivamente para as flores femininas e masculinas. Trigona spinipes (Fabr.) coletou apenas néctar, em tempo médio de 60.5 s, representando 26.6% das visitas realizadas por abelhas. Diabrotica speciosa (Germ.) somente se alimentou das pétalas da flor. Não houve produção de frutos quando não ocorreu visita de insetos. Nas flores com livre visitação de insetos a frutificação foi de 40%. Quanto maior o número, até 16, de visitas de A. mellifera nas flores femininas, maior a frutificação, tamanho, peso e número de sementes. A frutificação foi de 35% no tratamento em que as flores permaneceram disponíveis à visitação desde o início da antese até às 9h00. A partir deste horário não houve frutificação, evidenciando o importante papel da A. mellifera como agente polinizador da moranga, já que foi o único inseto visitante até às 9h00.

The production of fruits and seeds of many crops is increased when bees visit their flowers pollinating them. The aim of this research was to study the pollination of pumpkins (Cucurbita maxima Duch. var. Exposição), to determine the diversity of insects visiting its flowers, the time and type of provision obtained and the effect of the visits on fruit set, fruit size and weight, and number of seeds. Apis mellifera L. accounted for 73.4% of the visits made by bees, collecting pollen during 34.5 s per flower and nectar in 43.9 s and 29.3 s from female and male flowers, respectively. Trigona spinipes (Fabr.) collected only nectar, during a mean time of 60.5 s per flower, and represented 26.6% of the visits by bees. Diabrotica speciosa (Germ.) only fed on the petals of the flower. When no insect visits occurred, there was no production of fruits. In the flowers with free visitation by insects, fruit set was 40%. The higher the number of visits, up to 16, by A. mellifera to female flowers, the greater was the fruit set, fruit size and weight, and number of seeds. In flowers visited by insects from the onset of anthesis until 9 a.m., fruit set was 35%. After 9 a.m., there was no fruit set, demonstrating the important role of A. mellifera as a pollinating agent of pumpkin, since it was the only insect visiting up to 9 a.m.

Com o objetivo de se estudar a biologia floral em moranga (Cucurbita maxima), variedade Exposição, realizaram-se dois ensaios, utilizando-se 128 plantas, numa área de 2.000 m². A abertura e o murchamento das flores ocorreu, em média, às 6p5 e 13h52, respectivamente. Havia, em média, 2,26 flores masculinas para cada flor feminina. As flores femininas produziram, em média, 138,9% mais néctar que as masculinas. A produção de néctar foi menor no segundo ensaio devido à menor precipitação e menor umidade relativa do ar. A concentração total de açúcares do néctar foi 0,3 e 3,8% maior nas flores femininas em relação às masculinas, respectivamente, para o primeiro e segundo ensaios. As flores masculinas produziram, em média, 129.021 grãos de pólen por flor, com 91,2% viáveis às 9h00. O estigma das flores femininas foi receptivo aos grãos de pólen, em média, até às 13p0. As flores femininas foram mais atrativas que as masculinas.

In order to study pumpkin floral biology (Cucurbita maxima) var. "Exposição", were conduced two tests, using 128 plants, in 2,000 m². The opening and the withering of the flowers happened, on average, 6p5 and 13h52, respectively. There were, on average, 2.26 male flowers for each female flower. The female flowers produced, on average 138.9% more nectar than the male ones. The nectar production was smaller in the second test because of a lesser due precipitation and smaller relative humidity of the air. The sugar concentration in the nectar was 0.3 and 3.8% larger in the female flowers in relation to the male ones, respectively for the 1st and 2nd tests. The male flowers produced 129,021 pollen grains for flower, with 91.2% viable at 9h00. The stigma of the female flowers was receptive to the pollen grains, on average, to the 13p0. The female flowers were more attractive than the male ones.
