Resumen: Antecedentes y Objetivos: Las coníferas, como los pinos, establecen en sus raíces simbiosis obligadas con hongos ectomicorrízicos y con determinados grupos de bacterias. México posee una alta diversidad de especies del género Pinus, que en este país está representado por 72 taxa. Sin embargo, actualmente son escasas las investigaciones relacionadas con la coinoculación de pinos mexicanos con hongos ectomicorrízicos y bacterias benéficas. En este trabajo se evaluó el efecto de la coinoculación, con un hongo comestible ectomicorrízico y tres cepas bacterianas, en términos de variables de crecimiento, fisiológicas y nutrimentales en plantas de Pinus montezumae. Métodos: Se inocularon y coinocularon plantas de P. montezumae con el hongo comestible ectomicorrízico Laccaria laccata,y con tres cepas bacterianas, una de Cohnella sp., y dos de Azospirillum brasilense (una con capacidad de fijar nitrógeno y la otra con capacidad de solubilizar fosfatos). Esta investigación duró 520 días y se realizó en un invernadero del Colegio de Postgraduados, Campus Montecillo, Texcoco, Estado de México, México. Resultados clave: La inoculación con el hongo ectomicorrízico produjo incrementos en términos de peso seco de hasta 7.8 veces y tasas fotosintéticas hasta 30 veces mayores comparadas con las plantas sin inocular. Adicionalmente se registró un efecto sinérgico en términos del crecimiento de parte área y total, diámetro del tallo, tasa fotosintética, contenido de clorofilas totales y carotenos, así como contenido de nitrógeno y potasio de las plantas micorrizadas coinoculadas con el hongo ectomicorrízico y la bacteria A. brasilense fijadora de nitrógeno. Conclusiones: Este trabajo demuestra la importancia de la coinoculación de un hongo ectomicorrízico comestible y la bacteria A. brasilense, en el mejoramiento del crecimiento, fisiología y contenido nutrimental de P. montezumae, una especie de pino de gran importancia forestal en México.

Abstract: Background and Aims: Conifers, such as pines, establish obligate symbioses with ectomycorrhizal fungi and specialized bacteria in their roots. Mexico has a high diversity of species of the genus Pinus, represented by 72 taxa in this country. However, currently the research related to the coinoculation of Mexican pines with ectomycorrhizal fungi and beneficial bacteria has received little attention. In this work, the effect of coinoculation with an edible ectomycorrhizal fungus and three bacterial strains was evaluated in terms of growth, physiological and nutritional variables in plants of Pinus montezumae. Methods: Pinus montezumae plants were inoculated and coinoculated with the edible ectomycorrhizal fungus Laccaria laccata, and with three identified bacterial strains: one as Cohnella sp., and two as Azospirillum brasilense (one able to fix nitrogen and the other one able to solubilize phosphates). This research lasted 520 days and was carried out in a greenhouse of the Colegio de Postgraduados, Campus Montecillo, Texcoco, Mexico State, Mexico. Key results: Inoculation with the ectomycorrhizal fungus led to an increase in terms of dry weight of up to 7.8 times and photosynthetic rate up to 30 times higher compared with plants without any inoculation. Additionally, a synergistic effect was recorded in terms of shoot and total growth, stem diameter, photosynthetic rate, total chlorophyll and carotene content, as well as nitrogen and potassium content of the mycorrhized plants coinoculated with the ectomycorrhizal fungus and the bacterium A. brasilense able to fix nitrogen. Conclusions: This work demonstrates the importance of the coinoculation of an edible ectomycorrhizal fungus and the bacterium A. brasilense, in terms of growth, physiology and nutritional content enhancement of P. montezumae, a pine species of great forest importance in Mexico.

Abstract: The basidiomes production of two strains of Pleurotus ostreatus (one native from Patagonia, Argentina, isolated from the conifer Araucaria araucana and the other one a commercial strain) grown in different agricultural and forestry wastes was studied. The ability of the native strain generates interest to know its degradative capabilities for its use with conifer waste from the regional forest industry, which is dominated by the use of exotic Pinus species. In addition, white poplar (Populus alba), southern beech (Nothofagus pumilio), wheatgrass (Thinopyrum ponticum) and residues from beer brewing were also explored as substrates. The native strain showed better productivity of basidiomes with a biological efficiency of 17,86 % ± 3,74 % on pine wood shavings in comparison with the commercial strain used as control. The best substrates were poplar and wheatgrass with biological efficiency between 35,28 % to 88,5 % and 27,84 % to 84,01 %, respectively. Supplemented substrates showed better productivity than those without supplement. The low biological efficiency on pine could be attributed to the aromatic compounds contents because, in growth test, the diameter of the fungal colony was affected negatively by the addition of pine resin volatiles, mainly with α-limonene and δ-3-carene. In spite of the low biological efficiency, promising inter-breeding or hybrids generation could improve yields in future assays.

SUMMARY: Flammulina mexicana is a fungus species endemic to high mountains and has potential for commercial cultivation. Four strains were isolated from wild fruit bodies and its growth was evaluated in two culture media. There were no morphological differences among these strains; however, the choice of culture media did produce differences. Growth rate was superior in strains IE 974 and IE 986 at 0.65 cm day-1. These strains also presented the highest biomass production at 6.9 and 7.7 g L-1, respectively; with a period of 35 days in production with solid spawn and 20 days with liquid spawn. All the four strains have the ability to fructify in agricultural and forestry wastes. Strains IE 986 and IE 974 presented better biological efficiency at 34.5 % and 31.9 %, respectively, with maize stubble as a substrate. A nutritional analysis of the fructifications obtained showed a high percentage of fiber (52.51 %) and low carbohydrate content (9.03 %). For this reason, culture of these species represents an alternative for their ex situ conservation and use.

RESUMEN: Flammulina mexicana es una especie fúngica endémica de alta montaña con potencial para ser cultivada. A partir de esporomas silvestres, se aislaron cuatro cepas y se evaluó su crecimiento en dos medios de cultivo. No se presentaron diferencias morfológicas entre cepas, pero sí entre medios de cultivo. La velocidad de crecimiento fue mayor en las cepas IE 974 y IE 986 con 0,65 cm/día y la mayor producción de biomasa con 6,9 y 7,7 g/L, respectivamente; con un tiempo de 35 días para la producción de inóculo sólido y 20 para inóculo líquido. Las cuatro cepas tienen capacidad de fructificar en desechos agrícolas y forestales. Las cepas IE 986 e IE 974 presentaron mayor eficiencia biológica con 34,5 % y 31,9 %, respectivamente, en rastrojo de maíz como sustrato. El análisis nutricional de las fructificaciones obtenidas muestra un alto porcentaje de fibra (52,51 %) y bajo contenido de carbohidratos (9,03 %). Por lo que, el cultivo de esta especie representa una alternativa para su conservación ex situ y su aprovechamiento.

Abstract Background: Pleurotus pulmonarius is one of the commercially important edible mushrooms in the world. In Mexico, the production of this species is supported on few commercial strains; thus, it is a priority to select highly productive and good quality germplasm, suitable for its propagation under regional environmental conditions. Objective: To obtain and select highly productive P. pulmonarius strains by the interspecimen breeding of commercial parentals. Methods: Monosporic cultures from three strains were isolated, selecting the fastest mycelial growth cultures to determine the mating types and carry out the interspecimen crossbreeding. The new dikaryons were cultivated on barley straw to quantify the earliness of primordia initiation, biological efficiency (BE), production rate (PR) and basidiomes size, comparatively with their parents. Results and conclusions: Forty-eight new dikaryons were evaluated. BE’s fluctuated between 7.3 to 147.5 % and PR’s from 0.14 to 2.59 %. Thirteen progeny strains overcome BE’s of 80 % and 16 strains reached PRs upper to 1.5 %. Mostly, fruiting bodies developed pileus of 5 to 15 cm Ø. Although the productivities of progeny strains were variable, some dikaryons presented acceptable characteristics for their commercial exploitation.

Resumen Antecedentes: Pleurotus pulmonarius es uno de los hongos comestibles comercialmente más importantes en el mundo. En México, su producción se sustenta en pocas cepas comerciales, por lo que es de interés seleccionar germoplasma altamente productivo y de buena calidad, adecuado para su propagación bajo las condiciones ambientales regionales. Objetivo: Obtener y seleccionar cepas altamente productivas de P. pulmonarius a partir del cruzamiento interespécimen de parentales comerciales. Métodos: Se aislaron cultivos monospóricos de tres cepas, seleccionándose los de más rápido crecimiento micelial para determinar los tipos de compatibilidad y realizar las cruzas interespécimen. Los nuevos dicariones se cultivaron en paja de cebada para cuantificar: Precocidad en formación de primordios, eficiencia biológica (EB), tasa de producción (TP) y tamaño de los basidiomas, comparativamente con sus parentales. Resultados y conclusiones: Se evaluaron 48 nuevos dicariones. Las EB’s fluctuaron de 7.3 a 147.5 % y las TP’s de 0.14 a 2.59 %. Trece cepas progenie superaron el 80 % de EB y 16 cepas el 1.5 % de TP. La mayoría de las fructificaciones presentaron píleos de 5 a 15 cm Ø. Aunque la productividad de las cepas progenie fue variable, algunos dicariones presentaron características aceptables para su aprovechamiento comercial.

Abstract Background: Biological control for cereal diseases caused by mycotoxigenic fungi is part of the alternative methods to be developed to secure food and feed production, recognizing the negative effects these fungi have on crop yield and their potential production of mycotoxins. Objective: Update recent knowledge about the potential of mushroom-forming fungi as biological control agents of mycotoxigenic fungi species, acting as antagonists on crop debris, as source of active extracts with antifungal and/or antimycotoxin properties and as detoxifying agents in solid-state fermentation processes of contaminated cereals. Methods: A literature review of the published works was carried out, the main topics were analyzed, as well as the species with the greatest potential of biological control agents of mycotoxingenic fungi. Results and conclusions: Mushroom forming fungi could be used as antagonists on crop debris or grains, as sources of active extracts with antifungal and/or antimycotoxin properties, and as detoxifying agents. An integration of these three potentials gives rise to an environment friendly process for production of both safe grains and edible mushrooms.

Resumen Antecedentes: El control biológico de las enfermedades de los cereales causadas por hongos micotoxigénicos forma parte de los métodos alternativos a desarrollar para asegurar la producción de alimentos y forrajes, debido a los efectos negativos que estos hongos tienen sobre el rendimiento de los cultivos y su producción potencial de micotoxinas. Objetivo: Actualizar el conocimiento sobre el potencial de los hongos formadores de hongos como agentes de control biológico de especies de hongos micotoxigénicos, actuando como: antagonistas en residuos de cultivos, fuente de extractos activos con propiedades antifúngicas y/o antimicotoxinas y como agentes detoxificantes en procesos de fermentación en estado sólido en cereales contaminados. Métodos: Se realizó una revisión bibliográfica de los trabajos publicados, analizando los temas principales, así como las especies con mayor potencial como agentes de control biológico de los hongos micotoxingénicos. Resultados y conclusiones: Los macromicetos se podrían usar como antagonistas en residuos de cultivos o granos, como fuentes de extractos activos con propiedades antifúngicas y/o antimicotoxigénicas y como agentes desintoxicantes. Una integración de estos tres potenciales da lugar a un proceso amigable con el medio ambiente para la producción de granos seguros y hongos comestibles.

Abstract Background: Pleurotus ostreatus and P. pulmonarius produce some toxic metabolites for nematodes, and potentially useful for biocontrol. These compounds are produced in toxocysts. Objective: To describe the morphological features of the toxocyst-like structures in vitro produced by Pleurotus ostreatus and P. pulmonarius to contribute to the knowledge of the morphological characters of the genus. Methods: Wheat straw, besides malt extract agar (EMA) and potato dextrose agar (PDA) media were used for Pleurotus strains growing. The mycelia were processed for observation through scanning electronic microscopy. Results and conclusions: Both species mycelia, on straw and plate culture, produce abundant spherical, stalked structures. Although these structures are morphological similar and look like the toxocysts previously found on these and other species of Pleurotus, they are considered as toxocyst-like structures until the production nematotoxic compounds and their functions being corroborate.

Resumen Antecedentes: Pleutorus ostreatus y P. pulmonarius producen compuestos tóxicos para nematodos y por ende potencialmente útiles para biocontrol; algunos de estos compuestos se originan en estructuras denominadas toxocistos. Objetivo: Describir las características morfológicas de las estructuras tipo toxocisto formadas in vitro por Pleurotus ostreatus y P. pulmonarius para contribuir al conocimiento de los caracteres morfológicos del género. Métodos: Las cepas de Pleurotus se hicieron crecer en paja de trigo y en placa con agar con extracto de malta (EMA) y agar con papa y dextrosa (PDA). El micelio crecido se procesó para su observación bajo microscopía electrónica de barrido. Resultados y conclusiones: El micelio de ambas especies, desarrollado en ambos sistemas, produce estructuras esféricas, pediceladas, morfológicamente similares. Aunque la morfología de estas estructuras es similar a las de los toxocistos descritos previamente para estas especies y para otras de Pleurotus; se consideran como estructuras tipo toxocistos en tanto no se corrobore la producción de compuestos nematotóxicos y sus funciones.

Abstract In order to obtain strains of the edible mushroom Pleurotus ostreatus that can be cultivated in pine wood shavings, 36 monosporic cultures were isolated and propagated in vitro, selecting 6 cultures of rapid mycelial growth in order to obtain interspecimen crosses and dikaryon-monokaryon mating. Eleven of the crosses obtained and their 6 parental strains were cultured in vitro in order to determine their growth in pine shavings and barley straw (control), selecting 6 strains (3 crosses, 3 parental strains) for sporome production in the two growth substrates. At in vitro level, significant differences were found between the mycelial areas of monokaryons and dikaryons in the treatments (time, substrate) evaluated. In terms of sporome productivity, the cultures in barley straw presented higher biological efficiency (22.6%-46.4%) and production rate (0.31%-0.77%) values than those in the pine shavings (3.3%-12% and 0.03%-0.11%, respectively). Sporome pileus diameters of 5 cm to 9.9 cm were the most frequent in both substrates. In general, the crosses surpassed their parents in both mycelial growth and sporome production, although further study is required in order to facilitate increased productivity of the strains in this potentially useful agroforestry residue.

Resumen Con el fin de obtener cepas del hongo comestible Pleurotus ostreatus con capacidad de cultivarse en viruta de pino, se aislaron y propagaron in vitro 36 cultivos monospóricos, seleccionándose 6 cultivos de rápido crecimiento micelial para obtener cruzas interespecimen y dicarión-monocarión. Once de las cruzas obtenidas más sus 6 parentales fueron cultivadas in vitro para determinar sus áreas miceliales en viruta de pino y paja de cebada (testigo), seleccionándose seis cepas (3 cruzas, 3 parentales) para producir sus esporomas en viruta de pino y paja de cebada (testigo). A nivel in vitro, se encontraron diferencias significativas entre las áreas miceliales de monocariones y dicariones en los tratamientos (tiempo, sustrato) evaluados. En cuanto a productividad de los esporomas, los cultivos en paja de cebada alcanzaron valores más altos de eficiencias biológicas (22.6%-46.4%) y tasas de producción (0.31% - 0.77%) que en que viruta de pino (3.3% - 12%) y (0.03% - 0.11%), respectivamente. Los esporomas con diámetros de píleo de 5 cm a 9.9 cm de largo fueron más abundantes en ambos sustratos. En general, las cruzas superaron a sus parentales tanto en crecimiento micelial como en producción de esporomas, aunque se requiere más estudios que permitan incrementar la productividad de las cepas en este potencial residuo agroforestal.

Abstract The present study conducted a genetic characterization and determined growth rate and biomass production in solid and liquid media, using strains obtained from wild edible sporomes of Lyophyllum that grow in high mountains. Vegetative isolation was used to obtain a total of four strains, which were divided into two clades within the section Difformia: Lyophyllum sp. and Lyophyllum aff. shimeji. Growth rate and biomass production were influenced by both the culture media and the strains. In a potato dextrose agar medium, the strains presented a higher growth rate, while in a malt extract-peptone and yeast agar medium, the growth rate was lower, but with a higher biomass production that was equal to that in the malt extract-peptone and yeast liquid medium.

Abstract Agaricus subrufescens is an edible fungus with medicinal properties which is cultivated with commercial aims in several countries; in nature, it has a wide distribution almost worldwide. This species has not been recorded in the wild for Mexico, thereby herein it was morphologically and molecularly characterized for the first time from a wild collection coming from the cloud forest in the central part of the State of Veracruz, Mexico. In addition, a strain was isolated from the collected specimen, which was grown. In this study, we confirm the occurrence of A. subrufescens in Mexico, being the southernmost collection in North America, and it is proposed as a forest, non-timber, and potentially cultivable species.

Resumen Agaricus subrufescens es un hongo comestible con propiedades medicinales que se cultiva con fines comerciales en varios países. De manera natural, este hongo tiene una amplia distribución en casi todo el mundo. Particularmente para México, esta especie no había sido descrita, por lo que en este estudio se presenta por primera vez su caracterización morfológica y molecular, a partir de una recolecta silvestre proveniente del bosque mesófilo de montaña en la región central del estado de Veracruz. Además, se aisló una cepa a partir del espécimen recolectado, la cual fue propagada vegetativamente. Con este trabajo se confirma la presencia de A. subrufescens en México con un ejemplar cuya localidad es la más meridional en América del Norte, y se propone como una especie forestal no maderable potencialmente cultivable.

Abstract Introduction: Wild edible mushrooms are considered functional foods of high culinary value; their demand has increased in recent years. Objective: The mycelial growth of Bovista aestivalis, Infundibulicybe squamulosa, I. gibba, Gymnopus dryophilus and Lycoperdon perlatum was evaluated to identify species susceptible to culture. Materials and methods: Mycelial growth rate (GR) and biomass were determined at 18 and 25 °C in solid and liquid culture media and in seed supplemented with Pinus patula needles. Metabolic activity (Ma) was quantified in the supplemented seed using the fluorescein diacetate (FDA) technique. Results and discussion: Gymnopus dryophilus and L. perlatum showed better mycelial development. In solid medium, the optimal treatment for both species was maize agar at 18 ° C. The G. dryophilus GR was 2.2 mm·d-1 with 70 mg biomass; the L. perlatum GR was 2.0 mm·d-1 with 30 mg biomass. In liquid culture, the G. dryophilus GR was 0.11 g·d-1 and for L. perlatum it was 0.12 g·d-1 . In supplemented sorghum, G. dryophilus had Ma of 61.5 µg of FDA·g-1 of substrate and a GR of 1.18 mm·d-1; L. perlatum recorded 23.6 µg of FDA·g-1 and a GR of 0.68 mm·d-1. Conclusion: The G. dryophilus strain is susceptible to culture.

Resumen Introducción: Los hongos comestibles silvestres se consideran alimentos funcionales de alto valor culinario; su demanda ha aumentado en los últimos años. Objetivo: Se evaluó el crecimiento miceliar de Bovista aestivalis, Infundibulicybe squamulosa, I. gibba, Gymnopus dryophilus y Lycoperdon perlatum, para identificar especies susceptibles al cultivo. Materiales y métodos: La tasa de crecimiento miceliar (TC) y la biomasa se determinaron a 18 y 25 °C en medios de cultivo sólido, cultivo líquido y en semilla suplementada con acículas de Pinus patula. La actividad metabólica (Am) se cuantificó en la semilla suplementada, mediante la técnica del diacetato de fluoresceína (FDA). Resultados y discusión: Gymnopus dryophilus y L. perlatum presentaron mejor desarrollo miceliar. En medio sólido, el tratamiento óptimo para ambas especies fue agar maíz a 18 °C. La TC de G. dryophilus fue 2.2 mm·d-1 con biomasa de 70 mg; la TC de L. perlatum fue 2.0 mm·d-1 con biomasa de 30 mg. En cultivo líquido, la TC de G. dryophilus fue 0.11 g·d-1 y para L. perlatum fue 0.12 g·d-1 . En sorgo suplementado, G. dryophilus tuvo Am de 61.5 µg de FDA·g-1 de sustrato y TC de 1.18 mm·d-1; L. perlatum registró 23.6 µg de FDA·g-1 y TC de 0.68 mm·d-1. Conclusión: La cepa de G. dryophilus es susceptible al cultivo.

Abstract Scientia Fungorum (SF) is a new mycological journal that recovers the history of the Revista Mexicana de Micología (RMM). The RMM was first published in 1968 as the Boletín de la Sociedad Mexicana de Micología, of which 20 volumes (1968-1984) were published. The RMM appeared in 1985 and, until December 2016, forty-four more volumes were published. Over 49 years, the RMM published 773 papers with the participation of 936 authors and more than 150 institutions from 27 countries. Among the topics covered are Biodiversity, Phytopathology, Mushroom Cultivation and Medical Mycology. Scientia Fungorum intends to redefine the approach and the scope of the journal, giving it a more universalist perspective, with an editorial concept and a Latin name that reaffirms the universal and integral nature of science. The journal aims to move quickly to electronic edition. From the second half of 2017, SF will use an electronic manager to streamline the editorial production process and the full content of its 49-year history will then be available as open access material. In this new phase, SF will be the heir that will give continuity to what is now the only specialized Mycology journal in Latin America.

Resumen Scientia Fungorum (SF) es una nueva revista micológica que recupera la historia de la Revista Mexicana de Micología (RMM). La RMM se publicó por primera vez en 1968 como Boletín de la Sociedad Mexicana de Micología, del cual se publicaron 20 volúmenes (1968-1984). A partir de 1985 apareció la RMM y hasta diciembre de 2016 se publicaron 44 volúmenes más. En 49 años la RMM publicó 773 trabajos con la participación de 936 autores y más de 150 instituciones de 27 países. Entre los temas tratados destacan Biodiversidad, Fitopatología, Cultivo de Hongos y Micología Médica. SF se propone redefinir el enfoque y los alcances de la revista, dotándola de una perspectiva más universalista, con un concepto editorial y un nombre en latín que reafirma el carácter universal e integral de la ciencia. SF pretende transitar rápidamente a la edición electrónica. A partir del segundo semestre de 2017 SF utilizará un gestor electrónico para agilizar el proceso de producción editorial y el contenido completo de sus 49 años de historia estará disponible en acceso abierto. En esta nueva etapa SF será ahora la heredera que dará continuidad a la que sigue siendo la única revista especializada en Micología en América Latina.

Summary Background: In Mexico, before the arrival of the Spaniards in the sixteenth century, mushrooms had a paramount ceremonial and sacred importance as substantiated by linguistic and archaeological evidence and documented in various pre-Hispanic codices and colonial writings. Objective: To describe a fascinating and paradoxically little known story linked to the conception of the first appearance of the sun and its relationship with entheogenic mushrooms according to the Mixtec codex “Yuta Tnoho” or “Vindobonensis Mexicanus I”, produced in the XVI century. Methods: An exhaustive bibliographic review of the publications related to Codex studied was carried out in several digital databases at the University of Sheffield, the British Library both in England, and in Colegio de Postgraduados, Mexico. Results and conclusions: A detailed interpretation of the pictograms that register the use of entheogenic fungi is presented from a ritual and sacred perspective for the Mixtec group in pre-Hispanic times prior to the birth of the first sun. This evidence constitutes a unique indication of the cultural and ceremonial importance of mushrooms in Mesoamerica, which survives in southeastern Mexico today in groups geographically close to the Mixtecs.

Resumen Antecedentes: En México, antes de la llegada de los españoles en el siglo XVI, los hongos tenían una importancia ceremonial y sagrada de gran relevancia, lo cual está sustentado en evidencias lingüísticas y arqueológicas, y documentado en códices prehispánicos y escritos coloniales. Objetivos: Describir una historia fascinante y, paradójicamente poco conocida, vinculada a la concepción de la primera aparición del sol y su relación con los hongos enteogénos según el Códice mixteco “Yuta Tnoho” o “Vindobonensis Mexicanus I”, producido en el siglo XVI. Métodos: Se realizó una exhaustiva revisión bibliográfica de las publicaciones relacionadas con el Códice estudiado en diversas bases de datos digitales de la Universidad de Sheffield, la British Library ambas en Inglaterra y el Colegio de Postgraduados de México. Resultados y conclusiones: Se presenta una interpretación detallada de los pictogramas que registran el uso de hongos enteógenos desde una perspectiva ritual y sagrada para los grupos Mixtecos en épocas prehispánicas previas al nacimiento del primer sol. Esta evidencia constituye una pieza única de la importancia cultural y ceremonial de los hongos en Mesoamérica, la cual pervive actualmente en el sureste de México en grupos cercanos geográficamente a los mixtecos.

Hydrolytic enzyme production (cellulases, laminarinases and xylanases) was studied in cultures of Lentinula edodes on sterilized coffee pulp. Samples of substrate colonized by mycelia were taken after 7, 14, 21, 28 and 35 days of incubation at 25 °C (W1 to W5) and during the fruiting period at different stages: formation of primordia (PF), first harvest (H) and one week after the first harvest (PH). The enzymatic activity was lower during the early mycelial growth and showed higher levels during the formation and development of fruiting bodies. During the reproductive stage of the fungus, the samples were subjected to a soaking treatment; however, it was not possible to relate this soaking treatment to the increase in enzyme production. The levels of enzymatic activity suggest that secretion of the studied enzymes does not influence the adaptability of the strains to the substrate.

Se estudió la producción de enzimas hidrolíticas (celulasas, laminarinasas y xilanasas) en cultivos de Lentinula edodes en pulpa de café estéril. Se tomaron muestras de sustrato colonizado por el micelio después de 7, 14, 21, 28 y 35 días de incubación a 25 °C (W1 a W5) y durante el período de fructificación en diferentes etapas: formación de primordios (PF), primera cosecha (H) y una semana después de la primera cosecha (PH). La actividad enzimática fue menor al inicio del crecimiento micelial y mostró mayores niveles en la formación y el desarrollo de basidiomas. Durante la etapa reproductiva del hongo, las muestras se sometieron a un tratamiento de remojo. Sin embargo, no fue posible relacionar este tratamiento con el aumento de la producción de enzimas. Los niveles de actividad enzimática sugieren que la secreción de las enzimas estudiadas no influye en la capacidad de adaptación de las cepas al sustrato.
