Resumo O objetivo deste trabalho é apresentar as interpretações do livro Empresário Industrial e Desenvolvimento Econômico, de Fernando Henrique Cardoso, encontradas na literatura sobre empresários no Brasil. Mais especificamente, pretende-se mostrar como os autores que vieram depois de Cardoso leram a atuação política dos empresários industriais em sua obra. O artigo busca oferecer também uma interpretação alternativa da obra do sociólogo uspiano, desenvolvendo o argumento em duas chaves. Por um lado, são questionadas tais leituras sobre o empresariado industrial no Brasil, utilizando a própria obra do autor. Por outro, busca-se esclarecer seu método e a sua incompatibilidade com a leitura proposta por seus críticos. Isso tudo com o fito de mostrar que Cardoso apreendeu as determinações específicas da burguesia nacional e seu comportamento político, sem decalques estrangeiros.

Abstract This essay presents two readings of the book Empresário Industrial e Desenvolvimento Econômico, by Fernando Henrique Cardoso, found in the entrepreneurship literature in Brazil. More specifically, it shows how authors who followed Cardoso read the political action of industrial entrepreneurs in his work. The article seeks to offer an alternative reading of Cardoso’s work, developing a two-fold argument. First, it questions these readings about industrial entrepreneurship in Brazil, using the author’s own work. Next, it clarifies Cardoso’s method and its incompatibility with the reading proposed by his critics. All this to show that Cardoso seized the specific determinations of the national bourgeoisie and its political behavior, without appealing to foreign examples.

Resumo: A partir da bibliografia existente, não é difícil notar que atores como Carl Friedrich Philipp von Martius foram decisivos para constituição do que chamamos de uma langue e uma imagem da mestiçagem no Brasil, a partir das quais fora forjado um imaginário de que a especificidade da “civilização brasileira” seria fundada na mestiçagem de três raças. Argumentamos que Gilberto Freyre teve um papel de destaque na atualização e propagação desta langue ao argumentar que esta originalidade civilizacional se alicerçaria na mestiçagem e em um equilíbrio de antagonismos, construindo, deste modo, um esquema mental notavelmente conservador. Isso, porém, não impediu que essa matriz intelectual tenha sido revisitada, sistematicamente, em formas de pensamento encontradas em movimentos culturais e intelectuais críticos. Casos notáveis nesse sentido são: a antropofagia, o tropicalismo e alguns estudos pós-coloniais. À vista disto, o nosso trabalho tem as seguintes intenções: (i) expor as principais linhas do pensamento freyriano a respeito de uma civilização tropical miscigenada e (ii) escandir os usos que foram feitos deste imaginário e diagnóstico de Freyre pelos movimentos acima expostos, enfatizando algumas experiências intelectuais. Concluímos que, apesar de práticas desconstrutivas, a metonímia entre mestiçagem e construção de uma identidade nacional apaziguada é dominante.

Abstract: It is easy to note from the existing bibliography that actors such as Carl Friedrich Philipp von Martius were decisive in the constitution of what we call a langue and an image of miscegenation in Brazil. The idea that “Brazilian civilization” was exceptional was founded on an imaginary revolving around the miscegenation of three races. We argue that Gilberto Freyre played a prominent role in updating and disseminating this language by arguing that Brazil’s civilizational originality was based on miscegenation and a balance among antagonisms. In doing so, Freyre built a remarkably conservative mindset. This did not, however, prevent a systematic revisitation of this intellectual framework by critical cultural and intellectual movements. Notable cases in this regard are: anthropophagy, tropicalism and some postcolonial studies. This study explores these movements: (i) to expose the main lines of Freyre’s thought about a supposedly mixed-race tropical civilization and (ii) to reveal the uses that were made of this imaginary and of Freyre’s diagnosis by the above-mentioned movements. We conclude that, despite deconstructive practices, the metonymy between miscegenation and the construction of an appeased national identity is dominant.

Resumo O presente artigo tem duas intenções principais, a saber: em primeiro lugar, mostrar, contra parte significante da bibliografia, que não foram apenas os tropicalistas que teriam herdado e atualizado o legado antropofágico e, em segundo lugar, que a melhor forma de mapear o legado antropofágico seria a utilização da noção de uso e não de, por assim dizer, hereditariedade ou continuidade. À vista disto, sugerimos que: (a) a noção de uso seria a melhor forma de estudo desta história intelectual; (b) os diferentes usos são condicionados a partir de influxos políticos, materiais e ideológicos distintos, o que leva ao estímulo ou não de certos aspectos de sua produção e (c) seis seriam alguns dos usos por nós cartografados. Outra ideia-força que subjaz de nosso trabalho é a de que a antropofagia é sistematicamente revisitada por formalizar elementos (e efeitos) decisivos da colonização no Brasil.

Abstract The present article has two main intentions: first, to show, against a significant part of the bibliography, that it was not only the tropicalists who would have updated the anthropophagic legacy and, secondly, the best way to map the anthropophagic legacy would be from the notion of use and not of heredity or continuity. In view of this, we suggest that: (a) the notion of use would be the best way to study this intellectual history; (b) the different uses are conditioned by different political, material and ideological influences, which leads to the stimulation or not of certain aspects of their production and (c) six are some of the uses we have mapped. Another underlying idea of our work is that anthropophagy is systematically revisited for formalizing decisive elements (and effects) of colonization in Brazil.

RESUMO Pretendemos, neste artigo, comparar as obras de Hélio Oiticica e Rubem Valentim, em busca de similitudes e diferenças entre elas. Sugerimos e exploramos, a partir dessa comparação, a ideia de que Valentim seria crítico ao tropicalismo de Oiticica. Ademais, aventamos, tendo em vista os trabalhos de ambos, a existência de dois caminhos para a antropofagia na arte brasileira.

ABSTRACT In this article, we intend to compare the works of Hélio Oiticica and Rubem Valentim, looking for similarities and differences between them. We suggest and explore, from this comparison, the idea that Valentim would be critical of Oiticica’s tropicalism. Furthermore, we indicate, considering their work, that there are two paths to anthropophagy in Brazilian art.

Resumo A literatura sobre o Tropicalismo nas ciências sociais é numerosa. À vista disso, no balanço bibliográfico que aqui temos em tela, propomos a construção de dois tipos ideais a partir dos quais podem ser organizados os escritos sobre a Tropicália e sugerimos que tais estudos indicam a participação de artistas de diversas searas, embora não apontem com mais profundidade o fundamento que os une, fixando-se preferencialmente nas produções musicais. Ao final, sugerimos que essa ampla literatura pode ser organizada a partir de uma tipologia ideal dupla, a saber: uma corrente que interpreta a Tropicália em chave crítica e negativa, apontando sua integração mercantil e seu caráter politicamente conformista; e uma linha interpretativa que analisa o Tropicalismo como dotado de potencial crítico e explicativo frente à cultura e às relações de dominação internas e externas ao país.

Abstract The literature on tropicalism in the social sciences is numerous. In view of this, in the bibliographic balance we have here, we intend to propose the construction of two ideal types from which the writings on Tropicália can be organized and suggest that such studies indicate the participation of artists from different fields, however they do not point out in greater depth what unites them, settling preferentially on musical productions. In the end, we suggest that this broad literature can be organized from a double ideal typology, namely: a current that interprets Tropicália in a critical and negative key, pointing to its mercantile integration and its politically conformist character; and an interpretive line that analyzes Tropicalism as having a critical and explanatory potential in the face of the culture and relations of domination internal and external to Brazil.

Resumo: Este trabalho pretende dar continuidade a uma interpretação da obra de Victor Nunes Leal sugerida por Gildo Marçal Brandão em meio ao projeto das linhagens do pensamento político brasileiro, no qual o cientista político uspiano aproxima-o do assim chamado radicalismo de classe média - baseado numa visão democratizante sobre o Brasil e assentado na totalidade social. Para atingir este objetivo, lançaremos mão de algumas obras do autor e fortuna crítica, com o fito de distanciar o pensamento do jurista de interpretações que: a) vinculam-no a certa tradição de ciência política, a qual se estabeleceu no Brasil principalmente sob o paradigma da autonomia da esfera política em relação às demais esferas da vida social; b) ou ao pensamento conservador de Oliveira Viana.

Abstract: This paper intends to give continuity to an interpretation of the work of Victor Nunes Leal suggested by Gildo Marçal Brandão in the middle of the project of lines of brazilian political thought, in which the uspian political scientist brings him closer than the so-called middle class radicalism - basead on democratizing vison about Brazil and based on social totality. In order to reach this goal, we will use some works by the author and a critical fortune, with the aim of distancing the jurist’s thinking from interpretations that: a) link him to a certain tradition of Political Science, which was established in Brazil mainly under the paradigm of the autonomy of political sphere in relation to the other spheres of social life b) or the conservative thinking of Oliveira Viana.
