Abstract The RMAX chart was proposed to control the covariance matrix of two quality characteristics. The monitoring statistic of the RMAX chart is the maximum of two standardized sample ranges from bivariate observations of two quality characteristics. In this article, we investigate the performance of two synthetic RMAX charts. The first synthetic chart signals when a second point, not far from the first one, falls beyond the warning limit. The second synthetic chart additionally signals when a sample point falls beyond the control limit. The performance of the synthetic RMAX charts are compared with the performance of the standard RMAX chart and the generalized variance S chart. The proposed charts are the best option to detect moderate or even small changes in the covariance matrix. To detect large changes in the covariance matrix, additional run rules are not necessary.

Resumo O gráfico RMAX foi proposto para o monitoramento da matriz de covariâncias de duas características de qualidade. A estatística de monitoramento RMAX é o maior valor entre duas amplitudes amostrais padronizadas oriundas de observações bivariadas de duas características de qualidade. Neste artigo, investigou-se o desempenho de dois gráficos RMAX com regras especiais de decisão. O primeiro gráfico sinaliza quando um segundo ponto, não muito distante do primeiro, cai acima do limite de advertência. O segundo gráfico também sinaliza quando um ponto cai acima do limite de controle. O desempenho dos gráficos RMAX com regras especiais de decisão foram comparados com o gráfico RMAX tradicional e o gráfico da variância amostral generalizada S. Os gráficos propostos são melhores para detectar moderadas ou até mesmo pequenas perturbações na matriz de covariâncias. Para detectar grandes perturbações na matriz de covariâncias, não é necessário adicionar regras especiais de decisão.

Abstract Damage detection in structures and systems is essential for monitoring parameters that can affect their integrity. This paper evaluates the efficiency of four damage indices (DIs) commonly used with temporal wave signals. The root mean square deviation, mean absolute percentage deviation, covariance, and correlation coefficient deviation DIs are presented, and a normalization is then proposed. An Euler-Bernoulli beam is used as a guided wave modelled with the spectral element method and excited by a toneburst signal. It includes the theoretical background of the throw-off beam, undamaged and cracked beam spectral elements. The DIs for a single crack position and a map varying crack depth and positions are calculated with deterministic and random temporal signal responses derived from noise addition. Results showed that DIs could identify and quantify the damage conditioned to the pulse location point and the influence of noise in the estimation, which leads in an analysis comparable to practical applications.

Resumen Este trabajo presenta el análisis modal experimental de un prototipo de ala de avión diseñado por el equipo de Aerodesign de la Universidad de Brasilia, que realiza una prueba de vibración del suelo en el prototipo. Los datos de respuesta dinámica se obtienen con el software LabVIEW y los parámetros modales identificados a través de la caja de herramientas EasyMod. Los parámetros modales se caracterizan por los primeros siete modos de vibración de la estructura. Se discute el efecto de pequeños cambios en el procedimiento experimental sobre los parámetros modales identificados. Se observó que el uso de la señal de excitación como barrido sinusoidal logarítmico y con un rango de frecuencia de excitación entre 2 y 150 Hz dio como resultado menos ruido y una medición más precisa de la respuesta de la estructura. Los resultados para diferentes métodos de identificación modal se verificaron utilizando el Criterio de Garantía Modal (MAC), y se logró una buena correlación.

Abstract This work presents an experimental modal analysis of an aircraft wing prototype, designed by the Aerodesign team of the University of Brasilia, and performs a ground vibration testing of the prototype. The dynamic response data were acquired using the software LabVIEW, and the modal parameters were identified through the EasyMod toolbox. The modal parameters are characterised for the first seven vibration modes of the structure, with the firsts two being suspension modes of vibration. The effect of small changes in the experimental procedure on the identified modal parameters is discussed. It was observed that the use of an excitation signal as a logarithmic sine sweep and with a frequency range of excitation between 2 to 150 Hz resulted in less noise and more accurate measurement of the structure’s response. Results for different modal identification methods were verified using the Modal Assurance Criterion (MAC), and good correlation was achieved.

ABSTRACT The control chart introduced by Shewhart is one of the most important quality control techniques used to detect special causes. Real world data are complicated to interpret since they involve a certain level of uncertainty that may be linked to human subjectivity or measurement device limitations. Fuzzy set theory can deal with such uncertainty and can be applied to traditional control charts. In this work, the values of the quality characteristic are fuzzified by the insertion of uncertainties and transformed into representative values for a better comparison with traditional control charts. The performance of a control chart can be measured by the average run length (ARL) and the extra quadratic loss (EQL). We observed in the present work that the fuzzy control chart has greater efficiency than the traditional control charts. An illustrative example demonstrates the application of the fuzzy control chart for the measurement of the volume contained in milk bags.

This article takes -as a result of a process of fieldwork in Amaicha del Valle (Tucumán Calchaquí.)- relations between ritual, death and community linked to collective mobilization, carried out by women, after the murder of an old commoner. It exposes a central analytical category of research, that of "symbolic gender territoriality" which comprises the most significant aspects of the relations between these three concepts for building a community identity Amaicheña.

Le présent article reprend - à la suite d'un processus de travail de terrain effectué à Amaicha del Valle (Valles Calchaquíes. Tucumán) - les relations entre rituel, mort et communauté, avec référence à une mobilisation collective, réalisée principalement par les femmes, après le meurtre-fémicide d'une personne âgée. Pièces a catégorie analytique centrale de la recherche, celle de « territorialité symbolique du genre » qui rassemble les aspects les plus significatifs de la relations entre ces trois concepts pour la construction d'une identité communauté des amaicheños.

El presente artículo retoma -como consecuencia de un proceso de trabajo de campo realizado en Amaicha del Valle (Valles Calchaquíes. Tucumán)- las relaciones entre ritual, muerte y comunidad, con referencia a una movilización colectiva, llevada a cabo, principalmente por mujeres, luego del asesinato de una anciana comunera. Expone una categoría analítica central de la investigación, la de "territorialidad simbólica de género" que recoge los aspectos mas significativos de las relaciones entre esos tres conceptos para la construcción de una identidad comunitaria de los amaicheños.

Abstract In this paper a novel model to orient a pushbroom linear optical satellite image is proposed. This one is based in the adaptation of the Orbit-Attitude model for use of the Modified UCL Kepler platform model. It has only the components of satellite position and velocity as unknowns. This implies not only the reduction of unknowns but also the elimination of initial adjustments of the orbit to estimate the polynomial parameters. In order to validate the model, four experiments were conducted using one HRC-CBERS 2B image. Two distributions of ground controls points (GCPs) were tested, 70 and 35 GCPs. A quantity of 43 check points (CPs) was used to analyze the planimetric accuracies of the orientations. For comparisons purpose the image was also oriented with platform model using 2nd order polynomial. The results showed that the planimetric accuracy difference in the use of the two models is 4 and 6 centimeters in the two mentioned configurations of GCPs, respectively. However, the main advantage of applying the proposed model is the direct use of ephemeris without the necessity of interpolations and pre-adjustments, which makes the orientation process simpler.

A extração de informações geoespaciais de uma imagem orbital requer a orientação interior e exterior da mesma. Os parâmetros de orientação exterior (POE) podem ser obtidos de forma direta, utilizando sensores GNSS/INS e estelares, ou indireta, utilizando feições de controle no espaço objeto. Os parâmetros de orientação interior (POI) são inicialmente obtidos por calibração em laboratório antes do lançamento do satélite, e podem também ser estimados periodicamente pela calibração geométrica em órbita. O objetivo deste trabalho foi realizar a calibração geométrica em órbita do sensor HRC-CBERS 2B. Para tanto, foram consideradas as correções dos efeitos sistemáticos causados pela geometria do plano focal do sensor e pelo sistema de lentes do mesmo. Uma densa quantidade de pontos de controle e verificação foi utilizada, sendo que a análise da exatidão planimétrica nos pontos de verificação foi aplicada para avaliar a calibração. Quatro experimentos foram realizados analisando três diferentes conjuntos de POI. Os resultados dos experimentos de calibração foram muito próximos, não apresentando diferenças significativas. Uma maior exatidão foi obtida quando se empregou o grupo de POI modelando a translação, rotação, fator de escala e flexão das matrizes de CCD (Charge-Coupled Device), juntamente com a distorção radial simétrica do sistema de lentes

The geospatial information extraction from orbital images requires the internal and external orientation. The external orientation parameters (EOPs) can be obtained directly from GNSS/INS and star sensors, or indirectly by control features in the object space. The interior orientation parameters (IOPs) are first determined from laboratory calibration process prior the satellite launch, and can be estimated by the periodically on-orbit geometric calibration. This paper aimed to perform the on-orbit geometric calibration of the HRC-CBERS 2B sensor. The corrections of systematic effects caused by the focal plane of the sensor and by lens system were considered in the calibration process. A dense number of ground control and check points are used, and the accuracy analysis of the planimetric checkpoints was then applied to evaluate the calibration. Four experiments are performed analyzing three different groups of IOPs. The results obtained from calibration experiments were similar and did not shown significant differences. A slightly highest accuracy was obtained when the group of IOPs was used considering the translation, rotation, scale factor and bending of the CCD chips, with symmetric radial distortion of the lens system

Este trabalho foi conduzido com o objetivo de gerar informações sobre o processo de perfilhamento e contribuir para com o entendimento do processo de desfolhação do azevém (Lolium multiflorum Lam.) utilizado por cordeiras, submetidas a diferentes ofertas de forragem: 6; 8 e 12 kg de MS 100-1 kg de peso corporal. O método de pastejo foi intermitente. O delineamento experimental foi inteiramente casualizado, com medidas repetidas no tempo, três tratamentos e duas repetições de área. A intensidade de desfolhação é superior nas ofertas de forragem 6 e 9%. O intervalo entre desfolhações foi superior na oferta de forragem 12%, intermediária na oferta 9% e inferior na oferta 6%. As taxas de aparecimento, sobrevivência e mortalidade de perfilhos e o índice de estabilidade da população de perfilhos são similares nas ofertas de forragem e variam nos estádios fenológicos do azevém. Mudanças estruturais do dossel causadas pelo manejo com baixas ofertas de forragem e/ou pelo avanço do estádio fenológico do azevém alteram as estratégias de desfolhação, com pastejo realizado de forma mais intensa e frequente.

This work was carried out in order to generate information on the tillering process and to contribute for the understanding of the defoliation process on Italian ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum Lam.) grazed by lambs under different herbage allowances: 6, 8 and 12 kg of dry matter per 100 kg of animal live weight per day. The grazing method was intermittent. The experimental design was completely randomized following a repeated measure arrangement, with three treatments and two area replications. The intensity of defoliation is greater at 6 and 9% herbage allowances. The defoliation interval is higher at 12% herbage allowance, intermediate at 9% and lower at 6%. The rates of tiller emergence, survival and death, stability index the tiller population are similar for the different herbage allowances and differ according to the phenological stage of ryegrass. Structural changes caused by canopy management with low herbage allowance and/or due to the advance in developmental stage of ryegrass alter defoliation strategies, with more intense and frequent grazing.

This paper present a critique of the limitations in the postulate of the historical absence of dominant women in the egalitarian gender studies. Retrieving the symbolic and imaginary aspects circumscribed, dominant at the time about the value of women, the idea of Naturalness of female domestic performance proposes a different reading of the written sources. As a consequence, a kind of corporal discipline of women around their work should have shaped decisively the urban profile of Rosario, between 1880 and 1920.

El presente artículo se propone exponer una crítica de las limitaciones del postulado de la ausencia histórica de las mujeres dominante en los estudios de género de cuño igualitarista. Recuperando los aspectos simbólicos e imaginarios dominantes en la época sobre el valor de las mujeres que se hallan circunscriptos, en buena medida, en la idea de naturalidad del desempeño doméstico femenino propone una lectura diferencial de las fuentes escritas. A partir de ello avanza en el registro de una modalidad de disciplinamiento corporal de las mujeres en el ámbito de su trabajo que debe haber demarcado decisivamente el perfil urbano de la ciudad de Rosario entre 1880 y 1920.

No planejamento dos gráficos de controle destinados ao monitoramento da média do processo, assume-se que esta permanece fixa em seu valor-alvo até a ocorrência de uma causa especial, que a desloca. Em muitos processos, contudo, é mais razoável supor que a média oscila mesmo na ausência de causas especiais. Para descrever este comportamento oscilatório, tem-se utilizado o modelo AR (1). Quando esta oscilação é grande, o melhor desempenho do gráfico de x̄ é obtido com amostras unitárias. O mesmo não se observa com a carta de EWMA (exceto quando o parâmetro de ponderação λ é próximo de um); os melhores desempenhos são obtidos com a adoção de amostras de tamanho n > 1 e λ pequeno, mesmo quando o objetivo é a detecção rápida de grandes deslocamentos da média. Neste estudo, tem-se utilizado como medida de desempenho o TES - tempo médio entre a ocorrência de uma mudança na posição em torno da qual a média oscila e sua sinalização pelo gráfico de controle. Quando a média do processo oscila, o TES passa a ser uma função do número esperado de visitas aos estados transientes de uma cadeia de Markov.

The design of the control charts for the process mean assumes that this parameter remains fixed on its target value until the occurrence of a special cause that moves it. However, in many cases, it is more reasonable to assume that the mean wanders even in the absence of special causes. The AR(1) model has been considered to describe this wandering behavior. When the wandering behavior is responsible for significant proportion of data variability, the best performance of the x̄ chart is obtained with samples of size one (n=1). The same is not true for the EWMA control chart (except when the smoothing parameter λ is very close to one); its best performance is achieved with the adoption of n > 1 and small λ, even when the focus is to easily detect significant changes in the process mean position. In this study, the ATS, the average time between the occurrence of a change in the process mean position and the signal, was used as a performance measure. When the process mean wanders, the ATS becomes a function of the expected number the transient states of a Markov chain are visited.

Os gráficos conjuntos de <img src="/img/revistas/prod/2011nahead/aop_t6_0002_0329.jpg" /> e R e <img src="/img/revistas/prod/2011nahead/aop_t6_0002_0329.jpg" /> e S² são os mais utilizados para o monitoramento da média e da dispersão do processo. Com os tamanhos de amostra usuais de 4 e 5, os gráficos de <img src="/img/revistas/prod/2011nahead/aop_t6_0002_0329.jpg" /> e R em uso conjunto são ligeiramente inferior aos gráficos de <img src="/img/revistas/prod/2011nahead/aop_t6_0002_0329.jpg" /> e S² em uso conjunto em termos da eficiência em detectar alterações no processo. Neste artigo, mostra-se que para o caso multivariado, os gráficos baseados nas médias amostrais padronizadas e amplitudes amostrais (gráfico MRMAX) ou nas médias amostrais padronizadas e variâncias amostrais (gráfico MVMAX) são similares em termos da eficiência em detectar alterações no vetor de médias e/ou na matriz de covariâncias. A familiaridade do usuário com o cálculo de amplitudes amostrais é um aspecto favorável do gráfico MRMAX. Um exemplo é apresentado para ilustrar a aplicação do gráfico proposto.

The joint <img src="/img/revistas/prod/2011nahead/aop_t6_0002_0329.jpg" /> and R charts and the joint <img src="/img/revistas/prod/2011nahead/aop_t6_0002_0329.jpg" /> and S² charts are the most common charts used for monitoring the process mean and dispersion. With the usual sample sizes of 4 and 5, the joint <img src="/img/revistas/prod/2011nahead/aop_t6_0002_0329.jpg" /> and R charts are slightly inferior to the joint <img src="/img/revistas/prod/2011nahead/aop_t6_0002_0329.jpg" /> and S² charts in terms of efficiency in detecting process shifts. In this article, we show that for the multivariate case, the charts based on the standardized sample means and sample ranges (MRMAX chart) or on the standardized sample means and sample variances (MVMAX chart) are similar in terms of efficiency in detecting shifts in the mean vector and/or in the covariance matrix. User's familiarity with the computation of sample ranges is a point in favor of the MRMAX chart. An example is presented to illustrate the application of the proposed chart.

A doença de Pompe (DP) é uma miopatia originada do acúmulo lisossomal de glicogênio, devido à deficiência da enzima α-glicosidase ácida (GAA), sendo descritas formas de inicio precoce e tardio. Neste estudo analisamos retrospectivamente o perfil clinico e patológico de 3 irmãos portadores de doença de Pompe de inicio tardio. MÉTODO: O diagnóstico foi realizado mediante apresentação clinica de distrofia de cinturas associado a comprometimento respiratório, sendo confirmado por biópsia muscular e análise da atividade e genotipagem da GAA. RESULTADOS: Os exames clínicos e laboratoriais demonstram envolvimento muscular devido à deficiência da GAA, com uma mutação c.-32-3C>A em homozigose. CONCLUSÃO: Relatamos os aspectos clínicos e laboratoriais de 3 irmãos afetados por doença de Pompe de início tardio. Enfatizamos a importância de incluir esta patologia no diagnóstico diferencial das distrofias de cinturas, uma vez que para esta patologia específica existe a possibilidade terapêutica através de reposição enzimática.

Pompe's disease (PD) is a metabolic myopathy caused by the accumulation of lysosomal glycogen, secondary to acid α-glucosidase (GAA) enzyme deficiency. Childhood and late-onset forms are described, differing by the age of onset and symptoms. In this study were analyzed affected siblings with Pompe's disease (PD) and their distinct clinical and pathological presentations. METHOD: Diagnosis was performed by the clinical presentation of limb-girdle dystrophies and respiratory compromise. Confirmatory diagnoses were conducted by muscle biopsy, GAA activity measurement and by GAA gene genotyping. RESULTS: The findings suggested muscular involvement due to GAA deficiency. GAA genotyping showed they are homozygous for the c.-32-3C>A mutation. CONCLUSION: Herein we reported a family where three out of five siblings were diagnosed with late-onset PD, although it is a rare metabolic disease inherited in an autossomal recessive manner. We emphasize the importance of including this presentation within the differential diagnoses of the limb-girdle dystrophies once enzyme replacement therapy is available.

O gráfico T² de Hotelling e o gráfico |S| da variância generalizada são utilizados para monitorar o vetor de médias e a matriz de covariâncias de processos multivariados. Neste artigo, propõe-se o uso de um único gráfico de controle para o monitoramento de processos bivariados, isto é, o gráfico de controle MCMAX cujo valor da estatística de monitoramento corresponde ao maior valor em módulo de quatro medidas amostrais das duas características de qualidade sob monitoramento, isto é, as suas médias e variâncias padronizadas. O usuário de gráficos de controle já está bem familiarizado com médias e variâncias amostrais; o mesmo não pode ser dito a respeito da estatística de Hotelling ou da variância generalizada. Conseqüentemente, ele preferirá usar o gráfico de controle proposto ao invés dos gráficos conjuntos de T² e |S|. Além disso, o usuário, em geral, se sente mais seguro em intervir no processo somente após a ocorrência de um segundo ponto na região de ação do gráfico. Se o sinal for dado por dois pontos, não necessariamente vizinhos, porém próximos e na região de ação, o gráfico proposto terá um desempenho geral superior ao dos gráficos conjuntos de T² e |S| na detecção de desajustes do processo, exceto quando a correlação entre as duas características de qualidade for muito alta. Quando a correlação é muito alta e a causa especial desloca a média e/ou aumenta a variância de apenas uma das variáveis, X ou Y, os gráficos de T² e |S| são, em geral, mais ágeis do que gráfico MCMAX.

The control chart and the generalized variance |S| chart are used for monitoring the mean vector and the covariance matrix of multivariate processes. In this article, we propose the use of a single chart for monitoring bivariate processes, that is, the MCMAX control chart based on a new statistic, which corresponds to the maximum among four sample values: the standardized sample means (in module) and the standardized sample variances (weighted). The sample means and sample variances are well known by the users; the same cannot be said for the Hotelling's statistic or the generalized variance. Consequently, they will prefer to use the proposed chart instead of the joint and |S| charts. In general, the user prefers to wait until the occurrence of a second point beyond the control limit (not far from the first one) before interfering in the process. With this new rule, the proposed chart is faster in signaling out-of-control conditions, except when the correlation between the two quality characteristics is too high. In this case, the joint and |S| charts are faster is signaling assignable causes that only affect one of the two quality characteristics, changing its mean and/or increasing its variance.

Os gráficos de T² e da variância amostral generalizada |S| são as ferramentas usualmente utilizadas no monitoramento do vetor de médias e da matriz de covariâncias de processos multivariados. A principal desvantagem desses gráficos é a dificuldade em obter e interpretar os valores de suas estatísticas de monitoramento. Neste artigo, estudam-se gráficos de controle para o monitoramento de processos bivariados que necessitam somente do cálculo de médias amostrais (gráfico ZMAX) para o monitoramento do vetor de médias, ou das variâncias amostrais (gráfico VMAX) para o monitoramento da matriz de covariâncias, ou então das médias e variâncias amostrais (gráfico MCMAX) para o caso do monitoramento conjunto do vetor de médias e da matriz de covariâncias.

The T² chart and the generalized variance |S| chart are the usual tools for monitoring the mean vector and the covariance matrix of multivariate processes. The main drawback of these charts is the difficulty to obtain and to interpret the values of their monitoring statistics. In this paper, we study control charts for monitoring bivariate processes that only requires the computation of sample means (the ZMAX chart) for monitoring the mean vector, sample variances (the VMAX chart) for monitoring the covariance matrix, or both sample means and sample variances (the MCMAX chart) in the case of the joint control of the mean vector and the covariance matrix.

Neste artigo propomos o gráfico de controle de amostragem dupla para monitoramento de processos nos quais as observações seguem um modelo autoregressivo de primeira ordem. Nós consideramos intervalos de amostragem suficientemente longos em linha com o conceito de subgrupos racionais. O gráfico de controle de amostragem dupla é substancialmente mais eficiente que o Gráfico de Shewhart e do que o Gráfico com Amostra de Tamanho Variável. Para estudar as propriedades destes gráficos nós derivamos expressões de forma-fechada para o Numero Médio de Amostras até o Sinal (NMA) levando em conta a correlação dentro do subgrupo. Os resultados numéricos mostram que esta correlação tem impacto significante sobre as propriedades do gráfico.

In this paper we propose the Double Sampling control chart for monitoring processes in which the observations follow a first order autoregressive model. We consider sampling intervals that are sufficiently long to meet the rational subgroup concept. The Double Sampling chart is substantially more efficient than the Shewhart chart and the Variable Sample Size chart. To study the properties of these charts we derived closed-form expressions for the average run length (ARL) taking into account the within-subgroup correlation. Numerical results show that this correlation has a significant impact on the chart properties.
