Abstract This study aimed to analyze the arguments mobilized by judges to justify the issuance of preventive detention orders and to observe the existence of a relationship between these arguments and class and race factors. The methodology used was the documentary analysis of interlocutory decisions converting flagrant arrests into preventive detentions, referring to charges of theft and robbery that occurred between 2015 and 2018 in the metropolitan region of Salvador, Brazil. A total of 322 interlocutory decisions to decree preventive detention were analyzed, retrieved from the case files of Salvador Prison/BA, a unit for temporary detainees. At the end of the research, it was concluded that, among the justifications in force in Article 312 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 100% of the decisions analyzed were based on the category of guaranteeing public order, understood as social harmony offended by the dangerousness of the prisoner. This dangerousness is expressed by the concepts of criminal recidivism and modus operandi. Resumo Este trabalho foi realizado com o objetivo de analisar os argumentos mobilizados por juízes para justificar a decretação de prisão preventiva, além de observar a existência de relação entre esses argumentos e os fatores de classe e raça. Utilizamos como metodologia a análise documental de decisões interlocutórias que convertem prisões em flagrante em prisões preventivas, referentes a imputações de roubos e furtos ocorridos entre os anos 2015 e 2018 na região metropolitana de Salvador. Foram analisadas 322 decisões interlocutórias de decretação de prisão preventiva, retiradas do arquivo de prontuários do Presídio de Salvador/BA, unidade destinada a presos provisórios. Ao final da pesquisa pode-se concluir que, entre as justificativas vigentes no artigo 312 do Código de Processo Penal, 100% das decisões analisadas se baseavam na categoria de garantia da ordem pública, entendida como harmonia social ofendida pela periculosidade do preso. Data assimilation has been widely used for improvement of crop models’ estimates, for example to incorporate the effects of external events or compensate calibration errors in large areas. The term describes multiple approaches for those who want to take advantage of satellite imagery to reduce uncertainty or improve accuracy of model estimates. Kalman Filters are among the most used methods for achieving these goals. But their use in new contexts, i.e., from open field to protected environments, requires untangling aspects of the pipeline that are often performed in many different ways without guidelines, such as which variables to assimilate or how to ascribe uncertainty to observations or model estimates. This study is then divided in two parts. In the first, we review details on how uncertainty is ascribed on crop model estimates and in observations for applications of the Kalman Filter and three variations of the method, i.e., the Extended, Unscented and Ensemble, as well as which state variables are often updated and the frequency with which assimilation may occur, as well as how these aspects are connected to each other. In the second part, we apply different approaches from the reviewed literature in a greenhouse tomato crop model. We use artificial data with controlled noise levels as well as artificial data generated by simulation using other tomato crop model. We assess the impacts of using different methods and different approaches for ascribing uncertainty in model estimates and in observations, by assimilating artificial observations of fruit and of mature fruit biomass. We note that covariances should not be fixed values, that there are trade-offs between ascribing model uncertainty to the state itself and to other elements of the process, that observation covariance may have been considered disproportionality higher when using some ensemble generation approaches in the EnKF, and that bias in model estimates may lead to worse outcomes even when observations are high-quality ones. While we discussed aspects that should be considered in a new environment, many of them are also important for field crops, and we concluded assimilation should follow an assessment of which variables could be useful for assimilation.

ABSTRACT Purpose: This study aimed to assess and interpret how vitreoretinal surgeons use surgical videos available on social media as complementary learning tools to improve, review, or update their abilities, considering their different levels of expertise. Methods: In this cross-sectional survey, an online survey was sent to vitreoretinal specialists and fellows. Results: This survey included 258 participants, of whom 53.88% had been in practice for >10 years (senior surgeons), 29.07% between 4 and 10 years (young surgeons), and 17.05% for <3 years (surgeons in training). Retinal surgical videos available on social media were used by 98.84% of the participants (95% confidence interval, 97.52%-100%). YouTube (91%) was the most common source of videos, and surgeons in training watched more videos on YouTube than senior surgeons. Regarding the preferred method when preparing for a procedure, 49.80% of the participants watched surgical videos available on social media, 26.27% preferred to “consult colleagues”, and 18.82% preferred to seek information in scientific articles. Participants valued the most the “image quality” (88%) and presence of “surgical tips and tricks” (85%). Conclusion: Surgical videos can provide benefits in acquiring strategic skills, such as decision-making, surgical planning, and situational awareness. RESUMO Objetivo: Avaliar e interpretar como os cirurgiões vitreorretinianos utilizam os vídeos cirúrgicos disponíveis nas mídias sociais como ferramentas complementares de aprendizagem para melhorar, revisar ou atualizar suas habilidades, considerando seus diferentes níveis de especialização. Métodos: Nesta pesquisa transversal, um survey online foi enviado à especialistas e aprendizes na área vítreo-retiniana. Resultados: Esta pesquisa incluiu 258 participantes, dos quais 53,88% atuavam há mais de 10 anos (cirurgiões seniores), 29,07% entre 4 e 10 anos (cirurgiões jovens) e 17,05% há menos de 3 anos (cirurgiões em treinamento). Vídeos cirúrgicos de retina nas mídias sociais foram usados por 98,84% dos participantes (intervalo de confiança de 95%, 97,52%-100%). A fonte mais comum de acesso aos vídeos foi o YouTube (91%), e o grupo de cirurgiões com menos de 3 anos de experiência assistiu mais vídeos no YouTube em comparação aos cirurgiões seniores. ABSTRACT Objective: To report on the experience and impressions of the Brazilian orthopedic trauma surgeons attending the Leadership Development Program (LDP) hosted by the Sociedade Brasileira do Trauma Ortopédico (SBTO) in Sao Paulo, Brazil on November 4, 2022. Methods: Forty-eight orthopedic trauma surgeons from five different regions throughout Brazil were provided a link to complete The Big Five Test, a validated online personality assessment. The questionnaire was available in Portuguese and was intended to provide a background on individual personality traits and their influence on interpersonal interactions. The LDP integrated content from literature reviews specific to Latin America, established leadership programs from leading business schools, and various subject matter experts. Prior to the start of the LDP, participants received a pre-course survey evaluating demographic information, a needs assessment, and the prioritization of leadership topics utilizing a 5-point Likert-scale. Attendees participated in the one-day, interactive LDP focusing on the fundamental principles of leadership development, communication, personal development, emotional intelligence and negotiation. Following the LDP, a post-course evaluation was administered to determine the participants’ overall experience, and suggestions for LDP improvement. Results: Forty-one of the forty-eight course participants completed the pre-course evaluation, whereas forty-six of the forty-eight participants completed the post-course evaluations. Overwhelmingly, the lack of opportunity was most prevalently reported as the main obstacle to attending a leadership course, as cited by 56% of respondents. Conclusion: Expanding the accessibility, diversity, and customizability of leadership programs can facilitate the development of personal tools needed to move healthcare forward. Critical topics include emotional intelligence and other differentiating leadership qualities that distinguish true transformational and servant leaders. RESUMO Objetivo: Relatar a experiência e as impressões de cirurgiões de trauma ortopédico brasileiros participantes do Programa de Desenvolvimento de Liderança (PDL), organizado pela Sociedade Brasileira do Trauma Ortopédico (SBTO), em São Paulo, Brasil, em 4 de novembro de 2022. Métodos: Quarenta e oito cirurgiões de trauma ortopédico de cinco regiões diferentes do Brasil receberam um link para preencher o The Big Five Test, uma avaliação de personalidade on-line validada. O questionário estava disponível em português e pretendia fornecer informações básicas sobre traços de personalidade individuais e sua influência nas interações interpessoais. O PDL integrou conteúdo de análises de literatura específicas da América Latina, e programas de liderança estabelecidos pelas principais escolas de negócios e por vários especialistas no assunto. Antes do início do PDL, os participantes receberam uma pesquisa pré-curso solicitando informações demográficas, uma avaliação de necessidades e a priorização de tópicos de liderança utilizando uma escala Likert de 5 pontos. Os participantes participaram do PDL interativo de um dia com foco nos princípios fundamentais de desenvolvimento de liderança, comunicação, desenvolvimento pessoal, inteligência emocional e negociação. Após o PDL, foi realizada uma avaliação pós-curso para determinar a experiência geral dos participantes e sugestões para melhoria do PDL. A falta de oportunidade foi relatada com maior prevalência como o principal obstáculo para frequentar um curso de liderança, conforme citado por 56% dos entrevistados. Abstract Background Understanding the causes of intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) is crucial for effective treatment and preventing recurrences. The SMASH-U scale is a suggested method for classifying and predicting the outcomes of ICH. Objective To describe the SMASH-U classification and outcomes by etiology in patients admitted to a comprehensive stroke center in São Paulo, Brazil. Methods A retrospective analysis was conducted on patients admitted to the hospital or outpatient clinic between April 2015 and January 2018. Two stroke neurologists evaluated the SMASH-U classification, and patients with incomplete medical records were excluded. Results Out of the 2000 patients with a stroke diagnosis evaluated, 140 were included in the final analysis. The mean age was 57.9 (± 15.5) years, and 54.3% were male. Hypertension was the most frequent etiology, accounting for 41.4% of cases, followed by amyloid angiopathy (18.5%) and structural lesions (14.1%). Structural lesions were more common among women and patients under 45 years old. Favorable outcomes were observed in 61% of patients with structural lesions, compared to 10% of patients with medication-related etiologies. Conclusion This study provides important evidence regarding the etiological classification of Brazilian patients with ICH. Resumo Antecedentes Compreender as causas da hemorragia intracerebral (HIC) é crucial para o tratamento eficaz e prevenção de recorrências. A escala SMASH-U é um método sugerido para classificar e prever os resultados da HIC. Objetivo Descrever a classificação SMASH-U e os resultados por etiologia em pacientes admitidos em um centro de acidente vascular cerebral (AVC) em São Paulo, Brasil. Métodos Foi realizada uma análise retrospectiva de pacientes admitidos no hospital ou ambulatório entre abril de 2015 e janeiro de 2018. Dois neurologistas especializados em doenças cerebrovasculares avaliaram a classificação SMASH-U e pacientes com prontuários incompletos foram excluídos. ABSTRACT Mixture designs are becoming frequently used as a powerful tool in modern chemical research. Their versatility opens the door to countless applications, making it a must-have tool in any experimental environment. Mixture designs combined with mathematical regressions allow us to understand how component proportions affect a measured response leading to system optimization at minimum cost and providing an accurate description of system behaviour. Dedicated software is often used to perform data analysis in mixture design experiments, but many of them are only commercially available hindering the use of mixture designs by scientific groups. The availability of free software would make these designs even more attractive, allowing users to benefit from the creative potential of this toolset without the prohibitive cost of proprietary tools. RStudio and LibreOffice are some of the free software with the capability to perform the necessary data analysis accompanying mixture designs. ABSTRACT Aimed with this study was evaluate the increasing levels of crambe crushed, on in vitro digestibility of dry matter (IVDDM), organic matter (IVDOM) and crude protein (IVDCP), parameters of fermentation and kinetics of the cumulative gas production. The crushed crambe were included in the diets at 0; 50; 100; 150 g/kg of DM. There was a quadratic effect of the proportions of crambe crushed in the concentrated supplements on IVDDM and IVDOM (maximum point at 0.25 and 0.91 g Kg-1 DM, respectively). Total gas production (A + D) was influenced by the presence of crambe crushed with quadratic effect on minimal point on 0.02 g Kg-1 DM. There was a quadratic effect for pH in the collection times in all diets, the lowest pH values were observed between 4.8 to 8.7 hours. RESUMO O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar a inclusão de níveis crescentes de torta de crambe, sobre a digestibilidade in vitro da matéria seca (DIVMS), matéria orgânica (DIVMO) e proteína bruta, cinética da produção cumulativa de gás e parâmetros de fermentação. Foram avaliadas as inclusões de 0; 50; 100; 150 g / kg de MS em dietas. Houve efeito quadrático das proporções de torta de crambe nos suplementos concentrados para DIVMS e DIVMO (ponto máximo em 0,25 e 0,91 g Kg-1 DM, respectivamente). Abstract Several researches have focused on possible correlations between the development of the financial sector and economic growth. However, it is observed that these studies repeatedly ignore the environmental aspects of the issue, so the objective here is to fill this gap. To this end, this paper specifies ARDL models for the period 1978-2020, aiming to investigate the relationship between the development of the financial sector and environmental degradation in Brazil. A financial development index was constructed and then incorporated as an explanatory variable into the models. Resumo Muitas pesquisas têm se debruçado sobre as possíveis correlações entre desenvolvimento do setor financeiro e crescimento econômico. Entretanto, observa-se que essas pesquisas recorrentemente ignoram os aspectos ambientais da questão, de modo que o objetivo aqui é preencher essa lacuna. Para tanto, o estudo especifica modelos ARDL para o período 1978-2020, objetivando averiguar a relação entre o desenvolvimento do setor financeiro e a degradação ambiental no Brasil. Construiu-se um índice de desenvolvimento financeiro para, em seguida, incorporá-lo como variável explicativa aos modelos. Como resultados encontra-se que o desenvolvimento do setor financeiro nacional piora a qualidade ambiental no Brasil, aumentando as emissões de dióxido de carbono e reduzindo o estoque de capital natural do país. Abstract Objectives This study evaluated pain intensity in elderly subjects with hip fractures admitted to the emergency sector and undergoing preoperative pericapsular nerve group (PENG) block. Additionally, the degree of tolerable hip flexion was assessed. Methods A prospective, randomized, and controlled clinical trial with parallel groups. The control group consisted of elderly subjects with hip fractures undergoing standardized intravenous systemic analgesia. The intervention group consisted of elderly patients with hip fractures undergoing PENG block and standardized systemic analgesia. The groups were evaluated at rest and during movement using the Pain Assessment in Advanced Dementia (PAINAD) scale. We determined pain intensity and reduction, in addition to the degree of tolerable flexion of the fractured hip. All patient assessments occurred before the medication or block administration and at 45 minutes, 12, 24, and 36 hours postmedication or block. Results Preoperatively and 24 hours after PENG block, elderly subjects with hip fracture showed a significant reduction in pain at rest or movement compared to control patients (p< 0.05), with 60% of patients assessed at rest demonstrating desirable pain reduction (≥50%) and only 13.3% of the control group achieving the desired pain reduction. During movement, after undergoing PENG block, 40% of subjects demonstrated the desired pain reduction and no patient from the control group. The intervention group also showed a significant improvement in the tolerable hip flexion group (p< 0.05). Resumo Objetivos Este estudo avaliou a intensidade da dor em idosos acometidos por fratura do quadril internados no setor de emergência e submetidos ao Pericapsular Nerve Group (PENG) block no pré-operatório. Ademais, o grau de flexão tolerável do quadril foi avaliado. Métodos Ensaio clínico, prospectivo, aleatorizado e controlado em grupos paralelos. O grupo controle consiste em idosos com fratura do quadril, submetidos à analgesia sistêmica endovenosa padronizada. Abstract Objective: Rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is one of the most common injuries in athletes and is often associated with damage to anterolateral structures. This combination of injuries presents itself clinically as a high-grade pivot shift test. The hypothesis of this study is that patients with ACL deficiency and high-grade pivot shift test should have an increased internal knee rotation. Methods: Twenty-two patients were tested. After effective spinal anesthesia, two tests were performed with the patient in supine position. First, the bilateral pivot shift test was performed manually, and its grade was recorded. Then, with the knee flexed to 90 degrees, the examiner drew the projection of the foot in a neutral position and in maximum internal rotation, and the angle of internal rotation was measured from the axes built between the central point of the heel and the hallux. Results: In the ACL-deficient knee, it was observed that there is a statistically significant average internal rotation (IR) delta of 10.5 degrees between the groups when not adjusted for age, and 10.6 degrees when adjusted for age. Conclusions: Knees with ACL deficiency and with pivot shift test grade I do not show increased internal rotation in relation to knees with intact ACL. Resumo Objetivo: A ruptura do ligamento cruzado anterior (LCA) é uma das lesões mais comuns em atletas e está frequentemente associada a danos nas estruturas anterolaterais. Esta combinação de lesões apresenta-se clinicamente como um teste de pivot shift de alto grau. A hipótese deste estudo é que pacientes com deficiência de LCA e teste de pivot shift de alto grau tenham aumento da rotação interna (RI) do joelho. Métodos: Vinte e dois pacientes foram testados. Após raquianestesia efetiva, foram realizados dois testes com o paciente em posição supina. Primeiro, o teste de pivot shift bilateral foi realizado manualmente e seu grau foi registrado. Em seguida, com o joelho flexionado a 90 graus, o examinador traçou a projeção do pé em posição neutra e em RI máxima e mediu o ângulo de RI a partir dos eixos construídos entre o ponto central do calcanhar e o hálux. Resultados: Joelhos com deficiência de LCA apresentam delta da RI média estatisticamente significativo de 10,5 graus entre os grupos sem ajuste de idade e de 10,6 graus com ajuste de idade. Abstract Claims with high severity and low probability constitute a high risk for the insurance market. One tool to deal with this kind of event is the Extreme Value Theory (EVT). The main goal of this article is to apply the EVT to Actuarial Science using a different estimator for parameters, allowing the calculation of pure reinsurance premiums and the choice for the retention limit for insurance companies. The execution was split into two parts: (i) comparing the estimators through simulations, and; (ii) using data from 5 SUSEP lines of business with different natures, intending to estimate some extreme value statistics. In simulation studies, the Pickands estimator was very promising, but the limited amount of data resulted in a great variance when applied to real cases. Uma ferramenta para análise de eventos dessa natureza é a Teoria de Valores Extremos (TVE). O objetivo deste trabalho é aproximar a TVE das Ciências Atuariais, utilizando diferentes estimadores de parâmetros, possibilitando o cálculo de prêmios de resseguro e a escolha do limite de retenção ideal para seguradoras. ABSTRACT Introduction: Fanconi anemia (FA) is a rare autosomal recessive disease characterized by chromosomal instability and increased predisposition to malignancy. The diagnosis of FA requires clinical evaluation, confirmation of chromosomal fragility and/or analysis of genetic mutations. Therefore, this study aims to identify the clinical profile of patients with FA in the state of Pernambuco, Brazil. Method: We analyzed 100 individuals referred from the major hematology and bone marrow (BM) transplant centers in the state of Pernambuco, Brazil, between the years 2018 and 2022. The diagnosis of FA was performed using the mitomycin C chromosomal fragility test, clinical data and classical and molecular cytogenetic analyses. Results: We enrolled a total of 16 patients with FA to comprise this study. Most of these individuals (87.5%) came from the Agreste and Sertão regions of Pernambuco. We observed a slight female prevalence of FA (1.3:1). The primary clinical and laboratory findings were café au lait spots (62.5%) and bone abnormalities (53%, mainly thumb deformities [40%]). We performed BM cytogenetic analysis for eight patients – seven showed no chromosomal abnormalities and one presented the karyotype 47,XY,+21 [15]. Conclusions: Our results are important to promote public health measures for the early diagnosis of FA, as well as to foster the engagement of a multidisciplinary group in the treatment of this disease. ABSTRACT Introduction: The harvesting of musculoskeletal tissues is essential to ensure the supply of biological products of human origin with safety and clinical efficacy. The harvesting stage must undergo a validation process to guarantee the quality of the tissues. Objectives: This article describes the experience of a public human multi-tissue bank (HMTB) in validating the harvesting of musculoskeletal tissue (femoral head) from a living donor. Methods: This involves evaluating and adapting a harvesting protocol to promote excellence in the quality of tissues distributed for therapeutic and research purposes. To this end, a technical visit was carried out at another tissue bank, and meetings were held with the orthopedic service team to present and discuss the process flow. Donor screening was done by applying forms evaluating the selection and exclusion criteria. After acceptance, through the consent form, the donor’s serological tests were requested and collected. The harvesting kit, control of the temperature thermal transport box, and collecting microbiological material from the piece at the time of removal were validated. The validated harvested tissue underwent macroscopic, radiological, and microbiological evaluations to consider the process valid. The forms and other documents in the medical record were audited by the institution’s health quality and safety center. Process mapping was also carried out, targeting risks and opportunities for improvement. Results: The harvesting protocol was validated as foreseen in the action plan. The harvesting technique was performed sterilely in the operating room. Microbiological and serological analyses showed negative results, and the tissue was considered macroscopically viable. RESUMO Introdução: A captação de tecidos musculoesqueléticos é fundamental para garantir o fornecimento de produtos biológicos de origem humana com segurança e eficácia clínica. Para assegurar a qualidade desses tecidos, é essencial que a etapa de captação passe por um processo de validação. Objetivos: Este artigo descreve a experiência de um banco de multitecidos humanos (BMTHs) público na validação da captação de tecido musculoesquelético (cabeça femoral) de doador vivo. Métodos: Trata-se da avaliação e adequação de um protocolo de captação visando promover a excelência na qualidade dos tecidos distribuídos para fins terapêuticos e de pesquisa. Para isso, foram realizadas uma visita técnica em outro banco de tecidos e reuniões com a equipe do serviço de ortopedia para apresentação e discussão sobre o fluxo do processo. A triagem do doador foi conduzida por meio da aplicação de formulários, avaliando os critérios de seleção e exclusão. Após a aceitação, mediante termo de consentimento, foram solicitados os exames sorológicos do doador e, por fim, a captação. Validaram-se o kit de captação, o controle de temperatura da caixa térmica de transporte e a coleta de material microbiológico da peça no momento da retirada. Para considerar válido o processo, o tecido captado passou por avaliações macroscópicas, radiológicas e microbiológicas. Os formulários e demais documentos do prontuário foram auditados pelo Núcleo de Qualidade e Segurança em Saúde (NQSS) da instituição. Também foi realizado o mapeamento dos processos, visando os riscos e oportunidades de melhoria. Resultados: O protocolo de captação foi realizado e validado conforme previsto no plano de ação. A técnica de captação foi realizada de forma estéril no centro cirúrgico. As análises microbiológicas e sorológicas apresentaram resultados negativos e o tecido foi considerado macroscopicamente viável. Após auditoria, a documentação foi considerada adequada ao atender a legislação vigente (Resolução da Diretoria Colegiada – RDC Nº 707, de 1 de julho de 2022). Além disso, o mapeamento dos processos garantiu a segurança da captação e proporcionou oportunidades de melhoria. Abstract This study aimed to develop a pyriproxyfen-based Rumino-Reticulum Device (RRD) consisting of films of poly(vinyl)alcohol (PVA) and sodium carboxymethylcellulose (NaCMC) to control the horn fly in cattle, one of the major pests of livestock. Films were obtained by the solvent casting method by PVA/NaCMC crosslinking and presented satisfactory homogeneity, drug content (104.8%) and pH (6.5), besides great absorptive capacity with swelling degree of 331.40% after 1 hour and diffusion-controlled release kinetics (Higuchi). FTIR and SEM analyzes clarify the characteristic bands of PVA, NaCMC and pyriproxyfen. The XRD and thermal analysis shows an increase in crystallinity due to pyriproxyfen (Xc:36.59%) and the active delivery alters the chain packing (Tg:74ºC).
