Resumo O objetivo do estudo foi avaliar a composição florística e estrutural em um trecho de floresta secundária, no município de Dona Francisca - RS. Foram instaladas 50 parcelas permanentes de dimensão 10 x 20 m, de modo sistemático, distanciadas 10 m entre si e 40 m entre faixas, totalizando 1 ha. Foram amostrados todos os indivíduos que apresentassem CAP ≥ 15,7 cm e calculado os estimadores fitossociológicos. Foi realizada a curva de acumulação de espécie para verificar a suficiência amostral. Para o cálculo de diversidade e dominância, utilizou-se o Índice de Shannon (H’) e Equabilidade de Pielou (J’). Para a riqueza potencial utilizaram-se os estimadores não paramétricos Jackknife. Avaliou-se a composição florística e estrutural por meio da Análise de Correspondência Distendida (DCA). Verificou-se, também, a distribuição diamétrica e hipsométrica da comunidade arbórea, e para as espécies, com valor de importância acima de 5 %, a distribuição em classes de DAP. As análises estatísticas foram realizadas no programa R. Foram identificadas 65 espécies arbóreas e arbustivas com 2.045 indivíduos distribuídas em 31 famílias botânicas. As espécies com valor de importância acima de 5% foram Casearia sylvestris (14,04%), Nectandra lanceolata (12,86 %), Cupania vernalis (9,57 %), Guarea macrophylla (7,29 %) e Ocotea puberula (5,07 %). Os valores para a diversidade e dominância foram, respectivamente, de 2,91 nats.ind-1 e 0,69, indicando que a área possui baixa diversidade e dominância de poucas espécies. Pela DCA é possível verificar que as parcelas estão distribuídas homogeneamente no trecho florestal. A distribuição diamétrica representou o esperado para a comunidade arbórea com tendência ao J-invertido e a maioria das árvores apresentou altura concentrada no estrato intermediário da floresta. Das cinco espécies analisadas, apenas Nectandra lanceolata e Ocotea puberula não apresentaram curva exponencial negativa. Foi possível observar que há um predomínio de indivíduos nas primeiras classes de DAP e altura, o que caracteriza a resiliência da área após distúrbio. Ainda, indica as flutuações e estabilidade das espécies, na sucessão ecológica, de uma floresta em estágio intermediário de regeneração.

Abstract The objective of the study was to evaluate the floristic and structural composition of an area located in a section of secondary Forest, in the municipality of Dona Francisca, RS state. To do so, 50 permanent plots with a dimension of 10 x 20 m (200 m2) were installed in a systematic way, 10 m apart and 40 m between tracks, totaling 1 ha. All individuals with CAP ≥ 15.7 cm were identified and sampled and the phytosociological estimators were calculated. The species accumulation curve was used to verify the sample adequacy. For the calculation of diversity and dominance estimators, the Shannon Index (H ‘) and Pielou Equability (J’) were used. Subsequently, the floristic and structural composition was evaluated through the Distributed Correspondence Analysis (DCA). It was also verified the diameter and histopic distribution of the tree community, and for the species, with importance value above 5%, the distribution in classes of DAP. Statistical analyzes were performed in the R program. 65 tree and shrub species were identified with 2,045 individuals distributed in 31 botanical families. The species with a value of importance above 5% were Casearia sylvestris (14, 04 %), Nectandra lanceolata (12, 86 %), Cupania vernalis (9, 57 %), Guarea macrophylla (7,29 %) and Ocotea puberula (5.07 %). The values for diversity and dominance were, respectively, 2.91 nats.ind-1 and 0.69, indicating that the area has low diversity and dominance of few species and that by DCA it is possible to verify that the plots are homogeneously distributed in the forest. The diameter distribution represented the expected behavior for the arboreal community with J-inverted tendency and the majority of the trees presented height concentrated in the middle stratum of the forest. Only Nectandra lanceolata and Ocotea puberula did not present negative exponential curve from the five species analyzed. It was possible to observe the mosaic of tree species distributed in the forest section. In addition, there is a predominance of individuals in the first classes of DBH and height, which characterizes the resilience of the area after the disturbance and its capacity for natural recovery. It also indicates the fluctuations and stability of species in ecological succession of a forest in an intermediate stage of regeneration.

Resumo Este estudo teve por objetivo estruturar a produção em volume de povoamentos de Pinus taeda L., através de diagrama de manejo, tomando como base os parâmetros: densidade populacional, altura dominante, diâmetro médio de área basal e índice de espaçamento relativo. Os dados utilizados são oriundos de 128 parcelas permanentes, as quais foram medidas anualmente até aos 18 anos de idade e conduzidas em densidade completa, com espaçamentos de 1,5 x 1,0 m e 1,5 x 2,0 m. Concomitantemente, foram utilizados dados de parcelas permanentes submetidas a diferentes intensidades de desbaste, sendo a densidade regulada pelo índice de espaçamento relativo. O diagrama de manejo elaborado permitiu a prognose do volume por hectare, do diâmetro médio de área basal e da disponibilidade de espaço de crescimento, através do índice de espaçamento relativo, a partir das variáveis altura dominante e número de árvores com precisão e baixo erro de estimativa.

Abstract This study aimed to structure the production in volume of Pinus taeda L. stands, through a management diagram, based on the following parameters: population density, dominant height, average diameter of basal area and relative spacing index. The data used came from 128 permanent plots, which were measured annually up to 18 years of age and conducted at full density, with spacing of 1.5x1.0 m and 1.5x2.0 m. At the same time, data from permanent plots subjected to different thinning intensities were used, and the density was regulated by the relative spacing index. The management diagram elaborated allowed the prognosis of the volume per hectare, the average diameter of the basal area and the availability of growth space, through the relative spacing index, from the variables dominant height and number of trees with precision and low error of estimate.

RESUMO Através da variação dos atributos funcionais é possível verificar o funcionamento do ecossistema, tanto pela organização das espécies como pelas respostas das mesmas em relação as variações do ambiente. Nesse sentido, o objetivo foi analisar as características ecológicas das principais espécies arbóreas, pela análise dos atributos funcionais. Utilizou-se uma PCoA para verificar quais espécies são aquisitivas e conservativas; cluster na verificação dos atributos funcionais por grupos; correlação de Pearson entre os atributos funcionais e uma análise CWM-RDA na verificação das variáveis ambientais. A maioria das espécies foram classificadas como clímax exigente de luz e com dispersão zoocórica. As espécies apresentaram a plasticidade fenotípica como importante estratégia ecológica na composição dos seus atributos funcionais, principalmente quando relacionadas a área foliar e área foliar específica. A maioria das espécies pertenceram ao grupo das aquisitivas. O grupo das aquisitivas e conservativas indicam o potencial de resiliência da comunidade arbórea e os processos de mudança na sucessão ecológica. Foi verificada forte correlação negativa entre os atributos foliares e positiva com diâmetro e altura, ambas as correlações relacionadas ao crescimento-desenvolvimento da planta. Das variáveis ambientais, apenas pH, K e cota média tiveram relação com os atributos, indicando ser importantes condições ambientais para o estabelecimento das espécies amostradas. Além disso, verificou-se que a composição de espécies está atrelada a várias condicionantes de estratégias ecológicas associadas com as mudanças no meio ambiente.

ABSTRACT Through the variation of the functional attributes, it is possible to verify the functioning of an ecosystem, both by the species organization as by their responses to the environmental variations. In this sense, the objective of this study was to analyze the ecological strategies of the main tree species by analyzing their functional attributes. PCoA was used to verify which species are acquisitive and conservative; clustering was used to verify the functional attributes by groups; the Pearson’s correlation between the functional attributes and a CWM-RDA analysis was used to verify the environmental variables. Most species were classified as light-demanding climax and having zoochoric dispersion. The species presented phenotypic plasticity as an important ecological strategy in the composition of their functional attributes, especially when related to leaf area and specific leaf area. Most of the species belonged to the acquisitive group. The acquisitive and conservative groups indicate the resilience potential of the tree community and the change processes in ecological succession. There was a strong negative correlation between the leaf attributes, and a positive one with diameter and height, both correlations related to plant growth and development. Of the environmental variables only pH, K, and average elevation, were related to the attributes, indicating that environmental conditions are important for the establishment of the sampled species. Also, it was found that the species composition is linked to several conditions of ecological strategies associated with changes in the environment.

RESUMO A importância do emprego de fontes alternativas de energia, que sejam renováveis e provoquem menores danos ao meio ambiente, como menor poluição atmosférica e estabilidade do ciclo do carbono, traz em destaque a biomassa florestal. Nesse contexto, avaliou-se a produção de briquetes, produzidos a partir de resíduos florestais encontrados nas diversas fases de produção das fábricas de celulose, os quais foram analisados quimicamente, bem como suas propriedades físicas e mecânicas. Foram realizados dez tratamentos a partir de quatro classes de resíduos amostrados, utilizando delineamento estatístico inteiramente casualizado (DIC), com 10 repetições por tratamento. Para a análise estatística, realizou-se teste Tukey de comparação de médias e análise de componentes principais para explicar a estrutura da variância. Os tratamentos 4 e 10 apresentaram maior poder calorífico devido ao seu maior percentual de lignina, bem como obtiveram os melhores resultados de densidade energética. Quanto a densidade e a resistência mecânica, os valores encontrados foram adequados e condizentes aos citados na literatura, sendo que a última variável não diferiu estatisticamente entre os tratamentos. A análise dos componentes principais foi adequada, sendo os teores de extrativos, umidade, lignina, e a densidade energética as variáveis mais importantes na análise, com os mais elevados coeficientes da componente principal 1, a qual representa 70,9% da variância total explicada. O tratamento 4, contendo apenas casca de Pinus taeda, se destacou pelas suas melhores características para energia.

ABSTRACT The importance of using alternative sources of energy, which are renewable and cause less damage to the environment, such as lower atmospheric pressure and carbon cycle stability, highlights a forest biomass. In this context, the production of briquettes, produced from forest residues found in the various production phases of pulp mills, was evaluated and chemically analyzed, as well as their physical and mechanical properties. Ten treatments were performed from four sampled residue classes, their analysis was performed by a completely randomized design, with 10 repetitions per treatment. For the statistical analysis, Tukey's test of comparison of means and analysis of main components was performed to explain the structure of variance. Treatments 4 and 10 showed higher calorific power due to its higher lignin percentage, as well as obtained the best energy density results. Regarding the density and mechanical strength, the values found were adequate and consistent with the literature, and the last variable did not differ statistically among the treatments. The principal components analysis was adequate, with the contents of extractives, moisture, lignin, and energy density the most important variables in the analysis, with the highest coefficients of the main component 1, which represents 70.9% of the total variance explained. Treatment 4, containing only Pinus Taeda bark, stood out for its best characteristics for energy.

ABSTRACT: Araucaria angustifolia (Bertol.) Kuntze is a native tree species of major importance in southern Brazil. It is a regional symbol due to its iconic shape and stature in the landscape; its wood was once economically important and its seeds are an important source of food for the fauna and are presently used in regional cuisine. Despite its importance and apparent abundance, the species is facing extinction mainly as a result of unregulated exploitation and deforestation. This study catalogued the remaining individuals in order to add to the body of knowledge available on A. angustifolia, a species that has become rare across its historic range. The circumference at breast height (1.30 m), the total height, and the tree volume were measured (3,529 araucarias). We catalogued trees with a large diameter measuring them in loco over three years involving a journey of more than 6,800 km. The volumes of these old trees are very large, ranging from 38.2 m3 to 106.6 m3. The largest A. angustifolia individual is located in the state of Santa Catarina and measures 3.25 m in diameter. The giant araucarias with > 2.00 m in diameter are rare and only 13 individuals could be found in southern Brazil; a priority action at the governmental level is to recognize and preserve these monumental trees and together with a need for a public policy of drawing up specific inventories of large trees.

ABSTRACT This study aims at determining and differentiating the floristic groups of a Deciduous Seasonal Forest’s arboreal component, located on the ridge of the Southern Plateau, in Southern Brazil. Individuals with diameter at breast height ≥ 5.0 cm were sampled in sixty-two plots measuring 10 m × 10 m, which were systematically installed in the forest. Three floristic groups were found: Middle Stage, including 54 species, with Casearia sylvestris as an indicator species; Advanced Stage, with 38 species and Pilocarpus pennatifolius as the indicator species; and Altered Forest, with 27 species and Apuleia leiocarpa, Helietta apiculata, and Machaerium paraguariense as indicator species. A higher proportion of climax light-demanding individuals was reported in the Middle Stage and Altered Forest groups, contrasting with the Advanced Stage group, in which climax shade-tolerant species were predominant. In addition, the groups were differentiated according to their dispersion strategy, with specific syndromes occurring in each group (Middle Stage: zoochory; Advanced Stage: autochory; Altered Forest: anemochory).

RESUMO Os modelos arquitetônicos ajudam a descrever o desenvolvimento e a organização das copas das árvores. Este conhecimento é essencial para a compreensão do desenvolvimento das árvores na floresta e pode ajudar a entender a relação evolutiva entre táxons. O trabalho teve como objetivo verificar a riqueza de modelos arquitetônicos das espécies arbóreas de uma Floresta Estacional. Os dados foram coletados a partir de observações de campo e literatura especializada. Foram encontradas 53 espécies da flora arbórea de uma Floresta Estacional Subtropical de Santa Maria - RS, distribuídas em 45 gêneros e 28 das famílias. No total, 13 diferentes modelos arquitetônicos foram reconhecidos. Os modelos com maior destaque foram Rauh, Troll, Scarrone, Roux e Massart. A complexidade arquitetural, refletida pelo elevado número de modelos descritos, se deve ao desenvolvimento do dossel no remanescente estudado. O trabalho teve um caráter pioneiro e exploratório e deve fornecer um marco para novos estudos sobre arquitetura de plantas na região subtropical do Brasil.

ABSTRACT Architectural models contribute to describe the development and the arrangement of the tree canopy. This knowledge is crucial for the understanding of the behavior of forest trees and it may also help us understand the evolutionary relationships among the taxa. This study is aimed at identifying how rich the architectural models of the arboreal species of a seasonal forest are. The data was gathered from field observations and specialized literature. It presents a list of 53 tree species from the tree flora of the Subtropical Seasonal Forest of the Santa Maria - RS, distributed in 45 genera and 28 families in the tree flora. A total of 13 different architectural models have been recognized. The most prominent models were Rauh, Troll, Scarrone, Roux and Massart. The architectural complexity, reflected by the high number of models described, is due to the development of the canopy in the rest of the study. This work had a pioneering and exploratory character and shall provide a framework for new studies on plant architecture in the subtropical region of Brazil.

RESUMO Arquitetura de uma árvore é a expressão do equilíbrio entre os processos de crescimento endógeno e as forças externas exercidas pelo ambiente. Objetivou-se delimitar e caracterizar os estratos verticais, observando a regularidade da distribuição de abundância de espécies no gradiente hipsométrico de árvores, em uma comunidade arbórea na Floresta Estacional Subtropical. A amostragem foi realizada usando catorze parcelas (20 m x 100 m), distribuídas sistematicamente, registrando os táxons e a altura total das árvores com circunferência a altura do peito ≥ 30 cm. Os estratos verticais foram delimitados a partir da análise de agrupamento (Bray-Curtis; ligação completa). Foram analisados a abundância de espécies e os modelos arquitetônicos. Realizou-se uma análise de redundância (RDA), da distribuição de abundância das espécies com os modelos arquitetônicos, nos estratos verticais delimitados. Para avaliar a distribuição de abundância nas classes de altura usou-se a análise de correspondência destendenciada (DCA). Constatou-se que a comunidade arbórea está formada por quatro estratos verticais. Ocorreu uma relação entre as espécies dos modelos arquitetônicos com a estrutura vertical da comunidade arbórea, observando, assim, a existência de estratégias de ocupação do dossel entre as espécies de acordo com o modelo arquitetural analisado. Os modelos arquitetônicos com ocupação preferencial por determinados estratos foram os de Aubréville para o sub-bosque e o de Prevost para os estratos emergentes. Outras espécies apresentaram ampla distribuição nos estratos verticais na comunidade arbórea, não possuindo distribuição preferencial na estrutura vertical. Sendo os modelos de arquitetura - Massart, Rauh, Roux, Champagnat e Troll, primordiais para a conformação arquitetural da comunidade arbórea local situada na floresta subtropical.

ABSTRACT This study proposed stipulate the limits and characterize the vertical strata, observing the regularity of the distribution of species abundance, on height gradient of the trees in forest. Data were obtained from fourteen plots (20m x 100m) distributed systematically, registering the species and the total height of the trees with circuference at breast height (CBH) ≥30 cm. The strata were defined from the cluster analysis. We conducted a redundancy analysis (RDA) between species abundance and architectural models, in the vertical strata. For the species distribution in vertical strata was used detrended correspondence analysis (DCA). The community is comprised of four vertical strata. According to the study there was a relationship between the species of the architectural models with the vertical structure of the forest, thus observing that there are strategies of canopy occupation among species according to the architectural model studied. The architectural models with preferential occupancy by certain strata were those of Aubréville for the understorey and the one of Prévost for the emergent strata. Other species presented a wide distribution in the vertical strata of the forest, having no preferential distribution in the vertical structure. Being the models of Massart, Rauh, Roux, Champagnat and Troll, essentials for conformation of the forest arquitecture.

Conhecer a regeneração florestal em áreas dominadas por bambu pode auxiliar no gerenciamento das espécies nestas áreas, assim como auxiliar em propostas de recuperação e restauração destes ambientes. Dessa forma, o presente trabalho objetivou conhecer a estrutura, composição florística, mecanismos de dispersão, tolerância à sombra e hábito de vida das espécies da regeneração natural presentes em área sob domínio da espécie exótica Bambusa tuldoides Munro. O estudo foi desenvolvido em área de floresta estacional, município de Eldorado do Sul, Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil. Foram demarcadas 30 parcelas de 12x12 m, totalizando 0,432 ha de amostragem. Foram medidos e identificados todos os indivíduos presentes na classe I: altura maior ou igual a 30 cm e menor que 130 cm (30≤ H<130 cm) e na classe II: circunferência à altura do peito menor ou igual a 5 cm (CAP≤5). Foram observadas baixa densidade de indivíduos e espécies, principalmente na Classe II. Ocotea puberula, Myrsine umbellata, Trichilia elegans e Cupania vernalis apresentaram maior distribuição e relação com a área de bambus. Quanto à ecologia das espécies da regeneração, a maiorias destas podem ser classificadas como tolerantes à sombra (53%), de dispersão zoocórica (87%) e hábito de vida arbóreo (54%). Conclui-se que na área de superabundância de Bambusa tuldoides analisada, a classe da regeneração apresenta baixa densidade de espécies, indivíduos de pequeno porte, tolerantes à sombra e de dispersão zoocórica. Estas informações, devem ser consideradas para futuras ações de manejo e recuperação no local de estudo.

Understand the native forest regeneration process in areas dominated by bamboo can be a support to the management of these species, as well as assist in proposals for recovery and restoration of these environments. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate concomitantly the structure, floristic composition, mechanisms of dispersion, shade tolerance and lifeforms of the natural regenerating species present in the area under dominance of exotic species Bambusa tuldoides Munro. The study was carried out in seasonal forest, in the municipality of Eldorado do Sul, state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Thirty plots of 12x12 m (0.432 ha) were sampled and the plants divided into two classes. In Class I were measured and identified all the individuals with height greater or equal to 30 cm and less than 130 cm (30 ≤ H <130 cm) and in the Class II all the individuals with a circumference at breast height less than or equal to 5 cm (CBH≤5). Low density of individuals and species were observed, mainly in Class II. Ocotea puberula, Myrsine umbellate, Trichilia elegans and Cupania vernalis showed a greater distribution and relation with the bamboos area. About ecology, the majority of regenerating species can be classified as tolerant to shade (53%), zoocoric dispersion (87%) and arboreal lifeform (54%). It is concluded that in the area of superabundance of Bambusa tuldoides, the regeneration class (Class I) presents low density of species, small individuals, tolerant to shade and with zoocoric dispersion. It information should be considered for future management and recovery actions at the site.

ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of selective logging on the growth dynamics of Araucaria angustifolia in a natural forest of Rio Grande do Sul state, Brazil. Treatments were based on percentage reduction of the basal area per DBH class, namely, T0 (control) = 0%; T1 (light selective logging) = reduction of 20-30%; T2 (moderate selective logging) = reduction of 40-50%. Data were obtained prior to the management interventions and four, eight and 13 years after selective logging. Changes between treatments were assessed using the following parameters: absolute density, absolute dominance, importance value index, and growth rates. Results show that population reduction and canopy opening provided greater recruitment and higher growth rates for araucaria in the management treatments (T1 and T2) compared with those of the control treatment (T0). These results reinforce that management practices are necessary for the continuous development of araucaria in this forest formation.

RESUMO: O presente trabalho teve como objetivo caracterizar a vegetação arbórea em nascentes de Floresta Latifoliada Subtropical e verificar a relação entre a demografia da comunidade e variáveis edáficas, como subsídios para indicação de espécies em programas de recuperação de florestas ciliares de ambientes similares. O trabalho foi realizado na Floresta Nacional de Chapecó, localizada no oeste do estado de Santa Catarina no sul do Brasil. Para isso, foram demarcadas três nascentes, onde foram alocadas 26 parcelas de 200m2 em cada uma. Todas as árvores com Diâmetro a Altura do Peito (DAP) ≥5,0cm a 1,30m de altura do solo foram mensurados. Coletaram-se amostras de solo (0 a 20cm de profundidade) nas parcelas para análise das propriedades químicas e físicas. Para relacionar a abundância das espécies com as variáveis edáficas utilizou-se a Análise de Correspondência Canônica (CCA). Foram encontradas na área de estudo, 76 espécies pertencentes a 64 gêneros de 36 famílias botânicas. As famílias Fabaceae e Myrtaceae apresentaram maior riqueza florística. As variáveis edáficas que mais influenciaram na distribuição das espécies foram a saturação por alumínio e os teores de cálcio, magnésio e potássio. Ocorreu a formação de grupos específicos de espécies indicadoras para cada nascente. As espécies designadas como generalistas são as mais recomendadas para a recomposição de nascentes com a função de preenchimento inicial da área. Enquanto as espécies raras e de baixa densidade devem ser incluídas após a recuperação inicial com a função de aumentar a diversidade.

ABSTRACT: The aim of this research was to characterize an environmental structure in the setting of tree natural water springs in a Lower Highland Seasonal Forest, and to verify the relationship between community demography and soil variables as subsidies for species identification in riparian forest recovery programs in similar environments. The research was carried out in the National Forest of Chapecó, located in the west of the state of Santa Catarina in the southern region of Brazil. For this, three water springs were demarcated, where 26 plots of 200m² in each were allocated. All individuals with diameter at 1.30m of soil height ≥5.0cm were measured. Soil samples (0 to 20cm depth) were collected in the plots for chemical and physical analysis. To relate the abundance of the species to the edaphic variables, the Canonical Correspondence Analysis (CCA) was used. A total of 76 species belonging to 64 genera of 36 botanical families were reported in the study area. The families Fabaceae and Myrtaceae presented greater floristic richness. The edaphic variables that most influenced the distribution of the species were aluminum saturation and calcium, magnesium and potassium contents. Specific groups of indicator species were formed for each water spring. The species designated as generalists are the most recommended for the initial filling and recovery of degraded springs. Further rare species and with low density must be included after the initial recovery to increase diversity.

RESUMO A região do Parque Estadual do Espinilho, inserida nos domínios fitogeográficos da Savana Estépica Parque, ainda é pouco estudada, apesar de ser destaque na flora sulina. Características como denso estrato herbáceo e árvores isoladas configuram-na como propícia à pecuária. Objetivou-se analisar alterações florísticas e edáficas impostas pelo pastejo em duas áreas do Parque, a primeira sob pastejo e a segunda protegida por cinco anos. Foram avaliadas propriedades físicas do solo e biomassa aérea do estrato herbáceo, visando investigar relações com as principais espécies arbóreas regenerantes. Foi instalada uma unidade amostral de 2ha em ambas as áreas, compostas por 200 subunidades cada. O inventário do estrato regenerante, as coletas para análises de solo, biomassa aérea do estrato herbáceo e testes de resistência do solo à penetração foram realizados em 50 subunidades. Os resultados avaliados pelo teste t de Student demonstram que há variações entre florística e fatores ambientais aferidos entre as duas áreas. A abundância das espécies P. affinis e V. caven e as variáveis resistência do solo à penetração, densidade do solo, umidade gravimétrica e biomassa aérea do estrato herbáceo diferem significativamente. A análise exploratória de ordenação (PCoA) permite inferir que variáveis densidade do solo, resistência à penetração e abundância de espécies de V. caven apresentam maiores valores em área com pastejo, e umidade gravimétrica, biomassa aérea e abundância de P. affinis são maiores em área protegida, configurando significativas mudanças ao longo de apenas cinco anos de exclusão.

ABSTRACT Despite being prominent in flora, the region of the Parque Estadual do Espinilho located in the Pampas of southern Brazil, where dense herbaceous stratum and isolated trees make this region suitable for livestock farming, has received little attention. The objective of the study was to analyze floristic and edaphic changes imposed by livestock farming in two areas of the park, the first under livestock grazing and the second protected from grazing (livestock-excluded) for five years. We evaluated soil physical properties of and the herbaceous aboveground biomass in order to investigate relationships with key regenerating tree species. A sampling unit of 2ha was installed in both areas, each composed of 200 subunits. Inventory of regenerating trees and herbaceous aboveground biomass, soil sampling, and soil penetration resistance tests were done in 50 subunits. The results, which were evaluated by Student’s t-test, exhibited variations between the two areas in regards to floristic and environmental factors. The abundance of the P. affinis and V. caven species and the variables of soil penetration resistance, soil bulk density, gravimetric moisture and herbaceous aboveground biomass differ significantly between the two areas. Principal coordinates analysis (PCoA) allows to infer that variables such as soil bulk density, penetration resistance and the abundance of V. caven species exhibit higher values in the area under gazing, while gravimetric moisture, aboveground biomass and abundance of P. affinis are higher in the area under livestock-excluded, showing that significant changes occur over just five years of livestock-excluded from the area.

RESUMO Bambuzais podem acarretar alterações na estrutura e composição florística da regeneração natural. O presente trabalho avaliou o impacto causado por Bambusa tuldoides na regeneração natural de mata ciliar no Rio Grande do Sul, sul do Brasil. Foram avaliadas duas áreas: mata ciliar sem bambus (SB), como área de referência, e área de mata ciliar substituída por Bambusa tuldoides (CB). Em 2014, dez parcelas (10x10 m) foram instaladas em cada área. Todos os indivíduos pertencentes às classes I (30≤ H<130 cm) e II (CAP≤5 cm) foram identificados. Avaliaram-se composição florística, índices fitossociológicos, índice de diversidade de Shannon, diversidade de Margalef Dominância de Simpson, similaridade de Sorensen e análise de agrupamento por Twinspan. Riqueza e densidade absoluta foram menores em CB, comparativamente a SB. As áreas apresentaram baixa similaridade florística e alta dominância de uma ou mais espécies em ambas as classes. Myrtaceae foi a família predominante em SB, com destaque para Campomanesia xanthocarpa. Em CB, a maioria das espécies foram secundárias, como Myrsine umbellata, Cupania vernalis e Ocotea puberula. Devido às grandes diferenças entre SB e CB, os agrupamentos formados ficaram restritos, em sua maioria, às espécies de cada área. Espécies como Myrsine umbellata (classe I e II) e Strichnos brasiliensis (classe II) aparecem como indicadoras e formadoras de grupos em CB. Conclui-se que adensamentos de Bambusa tuldoides afetam a riqueza e diversidade da regeneração natural, alterando o estabelecimento e perpetuação das espécies. Espécies secundárias demonstram maior potencial de adaptação a estes ambientes, podendo atuar como espécies-chave em ações de manejo e recuperação.

ABSTRACT Bamboo grove may cause changes in the structure and floristic composition of natural regeneration. This study evaluated the impact caused by Bambusa tuldoides Munro at natural regeneration, in riparian forest in Rio Grande do Sul, south of Brazil. Two areas were evaluated: riparian forest without bamboos (SB) as the reference area, and riparian forest dominated by Bambusa tuldoides (CB). In 2014, ten plots (10x10 m) were installed in each area. All individuals belonging to classes I (30≤ H <130 cm) and II (CBH≤5 cm) were measured and identified. Floristic composition, phytosociological indexes, Shannon diversity index, Margalef richness, Simpson dominance, Sorensen similarity, and cluster analysis by Twinspan were evaluated. Richness and absolute density decreased in CB compared to SB. The areas presented low floristic similarity, and high dominance of one or more species in both classes. Myrtaceae was the predominant botanic family in SB, especially Campomanesia xanthocarpa. In CB most species were secondary, as Myrsine umbellata, Cupania vernalis, and Ocotea puberula. Due to the large differences between SB and CB, the groups formed were restricted mostly to the species of each area. Species such as Myrsine umbellata (class I and II) and Strichnos brasiliensis (class II) appear as indicators and former of groups in CB. We concluded that high density of Bambusa tuldoides affect the richness and diversity of regeneration natural, changing the establishment and perpetuation of the species. Secondary species show greater potential for adaptation to these environments and can act as key species in management and recovery actions.

RESUMO O presente estudo teve como objetivo descrever atributos funcionais de espécies arbóreas em um fragmento de Floresta Ombrófila Mista em Lages - SC, com o propósito de agrupá-las funcionalmente. Para cada uma das 20 espécies mais abundantes na área de estudo foi amostrado um total de 10 indivíduos e determinada a média da densidade da madeira e o tamanho médio das folhas. Dessas espécies, também foi descrito o regime de renovação foliar, a síndrome de dispersão de propágulos e a altura máxima no fragmento. Os resultados de altura máxima e de densidade da madeira sugerem a existência de um trade-off entre o investimento de recursos para o crescimento em altura, garantindo o acesso à maior disponibilidade lumínica, ou em densidade da madeira, permitindo maior capacidade de resistência e sobrevivência em um ambiente sombreado de sub-bosque. As gimnospermas Araucaria angustifolia e Podocarpus lambertii apresentaram as folhas de menor tamanho, enquanto Cupania vernalis, Jacaranda puberula e Matayba elaeagnoides, todas de folhas compostas, apresentam as maiores folhas. Quatro grupos funcionais se destacaram: 1) perenes de folhas grandes, 2) perenes de folhas pequenas, 3) decíduas zoocóricas e 4) decíduas não zoocóricas. Os resultados demonstraram que as espécies mais abundantes do fragmento de Floresta Ombrófila Mista estudado apresentam variações dos atributos funcionais avaliados, sugerindo diferentes estratégias de vida.

ABSTRACT This study aimed to describe the functional traits of tree species in an Araucaria Forest fragment, in the municipality of Lages, SC state, in order to group them functionally. For each of the 20 most abundant species in the study area, a total of 10 individuals were sampled for the determination of the mean wood density and mean leaf size. The leaf renovation regimes, the dispersal syndrome and the maximum height in the fragment were also described for these species. The results of maximum height and wood density suggest the existence of a trade-off between investment of resources in height growth, ensuring access to some higher light availability, or in wood density, allowing for greater resilience and survival in a shaded understory environment. The gymnosperm species, Podocarpus lambertii and Araucaria angustifolia showed smaller leaves, while Cupania vernalis, Jacaranda puberula and Matayba elaeagnoides, all of compound leaves, had larger ones. Four functional groups stood out: 1) Evergreen with large leaves, 2) Evergreen with small leaves, 3) Deciduous with zoochoric syndrome, and 4) Deciduous with non-zoochoric syndrome. The results showed that the most abundant species of the studied Araucaria Forest fragment present functional trait variations, suggesting different life strategies.

RESUMO O presente estudo teve por objetivo avaliar a dinâmica da chuva de sementes em dois agrupamentos florísticos formados em um remanescente de Floresta Estacional Subtropical. Os agrupamentos foram caracterizados pelo estágio sucessional da floresta, denominados de grupo I (Floresta Secundária em Estágio Médio - FSEM), com predomínio de espécies secundárias iniciais; e o grupo II (Floresta Secundária em Estágio Avançado - FSEA), com predomínio de espécies secundárias tardias. A chuva de sementes (CS) foi avaliada em 70 coletores de 1 m², distribuídos de forma aleatória nos dois agrupamentos, sendo que no grupo I foram instalados 15 coletores e no grupo II, por apresentar maior área, 55 coletores. O material depositado foi coletado mensalmente, no período de outubro de 2008 a outubro de 2010. A dinâmica da CS foi avaliada pela densidade de sementes de cada espécie, síndrome de dispersão e sazonalidade da produção. Utilizou-se o teste não paramétrico da Soma das Ordens de Wilcoxon (W) para verificar diferenças estatísticas nas médias de densidade de sementes em cada ano de avaliação para cada trecho de floresta. A chuva de sementes do remanescente estudado, durante os três anos de estudo, foi representada por 114 espécies e a maior produção de sementes ocorreu em 2008 (1632 sem.m-² no grupo I e 1270 sem.m-² no grupo II), principalmente devido à ocorrência da alta produção de Chusquea ramosissima Lindm., Dasyphyllum spinescens (Less.) Cabrera, Vernonanthura discolor (Spreng.) H.Rob. Somente no segundo ano (2009) observaram-se diferenças estatísticas nas médias de densidade entre os dois grupos analisados (FSEM=565,6 sem.m-2 e FSEA=274 sem.m-2; Z tabelado =1,96 e W FSEM x FSEA = 2,248). As espécies zoocóricas predominaram na área de estudo, e os períodos de maior produção de sementes foram o inverno e a primavera. A CS mostrou-se importante mecanismo de regeneração natural para o remanescente de floresta, sendo afetado pelas condições climáticas e estágio sucessional da floresta.

ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to evaluate the dynamics of the seed rain in two Floristic groups formed in a remnant of Subtropical Seasonal Forest. The clusters were characterized by successional stage of the forest, namely group I (Secondary Forest in Intermediate Stage-FSEM), with a predominance of early secondary species, and group II (Secondary Forest in Advanced Stage-FSEA), with a predominance of late secondary species. Seed rain was evaluated in 70 collectors of 1 m², randomly distributed in the two groups, whereas in group I were installed 15 collectors and in group II, due to its greater area, 55 collectors. The deposited material was collected monthly from October 2008 to October 2010. The dynamics of seed rain was assessed by the density of seeds of each species of dispersal and seasonal production. We used the nonparametric Test of Wilcoxon Sum of Orders (W) to determine statistical differences in the mean density of seeds in each year of assessment for each patch of forest. Seed rain in the remaining studied during three years of study, was represented by 114 species and higher seed production occurred in 2008 (1632-seeds.m-2 in group I and 1270-seeds.m-2 in group II), mainly due to the occurrence of high production Chusquea ramosissima Lindm., Dasyphyllum spinescens (Less.) Cabrera, Vernonanthura discolor (Spreng.) H.Rob. Only in the second year (2009) observed statistical differences in mean density between the two groups (FSEM=565.6 seeds.m-2 and FSEA=274 seeds.m-2; Z=1.96 and tabulated; W FSEM x FSEA =2.248). Zoochorous species predominated in the study area, and periods of increased seed production were the winter and spring. The seed rain proved important mechanism for natural regeneration of remnant forest and is affected by climate conditions and successional stage of the forest.
