RESUMO Objetivo Analisar a evolução do declínio da fala e da deglutição em pacientes com esclerose lateral amiotrófica (ELA) ao longo de dez anos. Método Estudo de coorte, retrospectivo e longitudinal. Foi realizado por meio da coleta de dados da escala funcional Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis - Functional Rating Scale-Revised (ALSFRS-R) em 101 prontuários de pacientes com ELA atendidos no ambulatório multidisciplinar de doenças neuromusculares de um Hospital Universitário, em um período de dez anos. Os dados foram analisados estatisticamente, adotando o valor de p<0,05. Resultados A análise das funções estudadas indicou que a fala, a deglutição e a salivação são alteradas ao longo de dez anos na ELA. Há diferenças de padrões entre as variáveis sexo e tipo da doença, nos sintomas relacionados à disartria e à disfagia nesses indivíduos, podendo precisar em dias o quanto esta evolução ocorre ao longo de um determinado intervalo de tempo. Conclusão Há declínio da fala e da deglutição ao longo de dez anos na ELA. O tipo bulbar provoca um declínio mais rápido das funções estudadas, do que o tipo espinhal.

ABSTRACT Purpose To analyze the evolution of speech and swallowing decline in patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) over a ten-year period. Methods A retrospective and longitudinal cohort study. Data were collected using the Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Functional Rating Scale-Revised (ALSFRS-R) from 101 medical records of ALS patients treated at the multidisciplinary neuromuscular diseases clinic of a University Hospital over a ten-year period. The data were statistically analyzed, adopting a significance level of p<0.05. Results The analysis of the studied functions indicated that speech, swallowing, and salivation are altered over ten years in ALS. There are differences in patterns between the variables sex and disease type concerning symptoms related to dysarthria and dysphagia in these individuals, which may indicate the rate of progression over a given time interval. Conclusion There is a decline in speech and swallowing over ten years in ALS. The bulbar type leads to a faster decline in the studied functions than the spinal type.

ABSTRACT Purpose: to report scientific evidence on the impact of aphasia on central auditory processing and map the contribution of auditory training to aphasic individuals. Methods: a scoping review approaching national and international databases (SciELO, LILACS, PubMed, Scopus, and Cochrane Library) and the gray literature (Google Scholar and Open Grey). The inclusion criteria covered articles that addressed the interface between central auditory processing and aphasia, excluding duplicates, literature reviews, and scientific abstracts. Literature Review: the review comprised 13 articles that met the eligibility criteria for this study. Seven of the selected articles assessed central auditory processing, four used electrophysiological examinations (such as auditory brainstem response and long-latency auditory evoked potentials) to assess the auditory pathway, and only one analyzed the intervention in aphasic individuals with auditory training. Conclusion: scientific evidence points to an important change in aphasic people’s central auditory processing, with impaired figure-ground, auditory closure, temporal resolution and ordering, and binaural integration. Moreover, it is relevant to assess auditory processing, given the contribution of auditory training in speech-language-hearing therapy for a better prognosis in the rehabilitation of aphasia.

RESUMO Objetivo: reportar as evidências científicas do impacto da afasia no Processamento Auditivo Central e mapear a contribuição do Treinamento Auditivo para a população afásica. Métodos: trata-se de uma revisão de escopo realizada nas bases de dados nacionais e internacionais: Scielo, Lilacs, Pubmed, Scopus, Cochrane Library e com uma busca adicional à literatura cinzenta no Google Scholar e Open Grey. Os critérios de inclusão abrangeram artigos que abordassem a interface do processamento auditivo central e afasia, excluindo-se as duplicações, artigos de revisão da literatura e resumos científicos. Revisão de Literatura: selecionaram-se 13 artigos que cumpriram os critérios de elegibilidade deste estudo. Dos artigos selecionados, sete apresentaram a avaliação do Processamento Auditivo Central, quatro apresentaram os exames eletrofisiológicos - como os exames de Potencial Evocado Auditivo de Tronco Encefálico (PEATE) e Potencial Evocado Auditivo de Longa Latência (PEALL) - para avaliação da via auditiva e apenas um estudo analisou a intervenção dos indivíduos afásicos por meio do treinamento auditivo. Conclusão: as evidências científicas apontam importante alteração no Processamento Auditivo Central dos afásicos, apresentando prejuízos nas habilidades auditivas de figura-fundo, fechamento auditivo, resolução e ordenação temporal e integração binaural. Ainda, demonstra-se como relevante a avaliação do processamento, devido à contribuição do Treinamento Auditivo nas terapias fonoaudiológicas para um melhor prognóstico na reabilitação das afasias.

ABSTRACT Purpose: to develop and validate the content of an intervention plan for adolescents and young adults with Trisomy 21, focusing on vocabulary, working memory, and syntactic awareness. Methods: a methodological study with validation stages for the proposed intervention, which was assessed by ten judges. The content validity index was used to evaluate the content, quantitatively. Results: most judges had a doctoral degree. All propositions reached the minimum score. The oral language intervention plan focusing on vocabulary, working memory, and syntactic awareness was designed for adolescents and young adults aged 13 to 25 years and 11 months. The proposal included fifteen 40-minute weekly sessions. Conclusion: the study presented the process of developing and validating the Oral Language Therapy Plan, focusing on vocabulary, working memory, and syntactic awareness for people presented with trisomy 21, with the judges’ agreement.

RESUMO Objetivo: elaborar e validar o conteúdo de um plano de intervenção para adolescentes e jovens adultos com Trissomia do 21 focado em vocabulário, memória de trabalho e consciência sintática. Métodos: estudo metodológico, com etapas de validação de proposta de intervenção. Foi realizada avaliação com um grupo de dez juízes. Para avaliação do conteúdo de forma quantitativa, foi utilizado o Índice de Validade de Conteúdo. Resultados: a maior parte dos juízes apresenta doutorado. Em todas as proposições, o escore mínimo foi atingido. O plano de intervenção em linguagem oral com foco em vocabulário, memória de trabalho e consciência sintática foi elaborado para adolescentes e jovens adultos entre 13 e 25 anos e 11 meses. A proposta contempla 15 sessões de 40 minutos, semanalmente. Conclusão: foi possível apresentar o processo de desenvolvimento e validação do Plano Terapêutico em Linguagem Oral com foco em Vocabulário, Memória de Trabalho e Consciência Sintática para pessoas com Trissomia do 21 com a concordância dos juízes.

RESUMO Objetivo Apresentar a tradução e adaptação transcultural do Apraxia of Speech Rating Scale (ASRS) versão 3.5 para o português brasileiro. Método Estudo de validação restrito à tradução e adaptação transcultural. Foram realizadas as seguintes etapas: tradução e síntese das traduções; verificação da aplicabilidade da síntese da escala por juízes, recrutados para tal finalidade; análise da relevância e da viabilidade da escala, calculadas pelo Índice de Validade de Conteúdo (IVC) individual (IVC-I) e total (IVC-T). Foram selecionados 18 fonoaudiólogos, cujas respostas foram utilizadas para a análise de concordância (coeficientes de correlação intraclasse - CCI) e o cálculo do Índice de Validade de Conteúdo (IVC). Por fim, a síntese da tradução foi equiparada quanto à equivalência semântica, idiomática, experiencial, conceitual, sintática, gramatical e operacional. Resultados O CCI variou entre 0,83 e 0,94. Seis itens obtiveram valores superiores a 0,9. Os demais itens apresentaram valores entre 0,8 e 0,9. O IVC-I e IVC-T apresentaram excelentes valores (IVC ≥ 0,78) para a relevância e viabilidade. Conclusão A versão brasileira do ASRS 3.5 apresenta equivalência semântica, idiomática, experiencial, conceitual e sintática/gramatical em relação ao original, dessa forma, está apta para as próximas etapas de validação. ABSTRACT Purpose To present the translation into Brazilian Portuguese and cross-cultural adaptation of the Apraxia of Speech Rating Scale (ASRS) version 3.5. Methods Validation study restricted to translation and cross-cultural adaptation. The following steps were carried out: translation and synthesis of translations; verification of applicability of the scale synthesis by judges recruited for this purpose; analysis of the relevance and feasibility of the scale calculated by the Content Validity Index (CVI), individual (CVI-I) and total (CVI-T). Eighteen speech therapists were selected. Their answers were used for the analysis of agreement (intraclass correlation coefficients - ICC) and for the calculation of the Content Validity Index (CVI). Finally, the synthesis of the translation was matched in terms of semantic, idiomatic, experiential, conceptual, syntactic, grammatical, and operational equivalence. Results The ICC ranged between 0.83 and 0.94. Six items obtained values higher than 0.9. The other items presented values between 0.8 and 0.9. The CVI-I and CVI-T had excellent values (CVI ≥ 0.78) for relevance and feasibility. Conclusion The Brazilian version of the ASRS 3.5 presents semantic, idiomatic, experiential, conceptual, and syntactic/grammatical equivalence to the original document. ABSTRACT Purpose to identify studies regarding the parameters and types of assessment used to evaluate dysarthria in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Research strategy an integrative literature review study was conducted on the LILACS, SciELO, PubMed, Web of Science, CINAHL, Scopus, and Cochrane databases using the descriptors “Assessment AND Dysarthria AND Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis” in both Portuguese and English. Selection criteria the inclusion criteria consisted of articles that addressed studies on dysarthria assessment in ALS, written in English, Spanish, and Portuguese, which should be available in full, and published from 2015 to 2022. Results: out of the total of 38 studies, only 3 used a single type of dysarthria assessment. Most studies employed more than one type of assessment, ranging from 2 to 4 types. Three assessment types were predominantly used to assess the degree of speech intelligibility: auditoryperceptual assessment (31 studies), acoustic assessment (18 studies), and movement assessment (27 studies). Conclusion dysarthria assessment in ALS is conducted through various procedures and with multiple analysis parameters, notably through auditory-perceptual and movement assessments.

RESUMO Objetivo identificar estudos a respeito dos parâmetros e dos tipos de avaliação utilizados para avaliar a disartria na esclerose lateral amiotrófica (ELA). Estratégia de pesquisa estudo de revisão integrativa da literatura realizada nas bases de dados LILACS, SciELO, PubMed, Web of Science, CINAHL, Scopus e Cochrane, por meios dos descritores, em português e em inglês, “Avaliação AND Disartria AND Esclerose Lateral Amiotrófica”. Critérios de seleção os critérios de inclusão foram: artigos que abordavam estudos sobre avaliação da disartria na ELA, nas línguas inglesa, espanhola e portuguesa, disponíveis na íntegra, no período de 2015 a 2022. Resultados do total de 38 estudos, apenas 3 usaram um único tipo de avaliação da disartria. A maior parte dos estudos utilizou mais de um tipo de avaliação variando de 2 a 4. Foram 3 os tipos de avaliação mais utilizados, com o intuito de avaliar o grau de inteligibilidade de fala: avaliação perceptivo-auditiva (31 estudos), avaliação acústica (18 estudos) e avaliação do movimento (27 estudos). Conclusão a avaliação da disartria na ELA é realizada por diferentes procedimentos e com vários parâmetros de análise, em especial pela avaliação perceptivo-auditiva e do movimento.

RESUMO Objetivo: discutir a formação do fonoaudiólogo para atuação educacional, a partir do que referem os estudantes de Fonoaudiologia. Métodos: participaram da pesquisa 29 discentes do 7º período do curso de Fonoaudiologia de duas Instituições de Ensino Superior. Utilizou-se um questionário elaborado especificamente para o estudo composto por questões abertas e fechadas a respeito do perfil dos estudantes e de sua formação para atuação em contexto educacional. Além disso, foram coletadas informações das ementas das disciplinas relacionadas a Fonoaudiologia Educacional nessas duas instituições. Os dados foram analisados de forma quanti-qualitativa. Resultados: os resultados indicaram que a soma das cargas horárias das disciplinas voltadas à educação pode ser considerada baixa e que as ementas de tais disciplinas não contemplam pontos importantes para a formação do fonoaudiólogo com vistas a atuação educacional. Além disto, os participantes referiram que a maioria das atividades práticas acontecem na educação infantil ou no ensino fundamental, com objetivos relacionados a uma visão médico-centrada. Os estudantes apontaram, ainda, a necessidade de melhorias na formação do fonoaudiólogo para atuação educacional. Conclusão: os estudantes referiram que sua formação necessita de ampliação de carga horária, conteúdos e vivências que permitam sua inserção em contexto educacional de forma consciente, crítica e responsável.

ABSTRACT Purpose: to discuss the speech-language-hearing pathologist’s training to work in education, based on the report from speech-language-hearing students. Methods: a total of 29 students in the seventh semester of the Speech-Language-Hearing program at two higher education institutions participated in this study. The questionnaire used was developed specifically for this study. It comprised open- and closed-ended questions on the profile of the students and their training to work in educational settings. Data were also collected on the syllabi of the courses related to Educational Speech-Language-Hearing Pathology at both institutions. The data were quantitatively and qualitatively analyzed. Results: the results indicated that the summed course load of the education-related courses is low, and their syllabi do not cover important aspects for the speech-language-hearing training aimed at the work in education. Also, the students reported that most of the practical activities took place in kindergarten or elementary school, with objectives related to a medical-centered view. The students also pointed out the need for improvements in the speech-language-hearing training to work in education. Conclusion: the students reported that their training should involve a broader course load, as well as contents and experiences to help them to consciously, critically, and responsibly join the educational setting.

RESUMO Objetivo analisar a autoavaliação da memória de jovens universitários. Métodos trata-se de um estudo observacional, transversal, de caráter analítico, com abordagem quantitativa. Participaram 519 estudantes, matriculados regularmente em instituições de ensino superior, com média de idade de 22,9 anos (±5,5), sendo 408 mulheres e 111 homens. Os instrumentos utilizados foram o Questionário de Memória Prospectiva e Retrospectiva - QMPR (Prospective and Retrospective Memory Questionnaire - PRMQ-10) e um questionário com informações sociodemográficas e com queixas de memória relacionadas às atividades acadêmicas. Os dados foram analisados quantitativamente, de forma descritiva e inferencial, com uso do teste Qui-quadrado, considerando o valor de p<5%. Resultados os jovens universitários relataram dificuldades frequentes de memória, em especial na prospectiva e de curto prazo. Foi visto que 46,6% dos participantes apresentaram queixas de memória e 62,8% referiram acreditar que a rotina na universidade pode provocar aumento nas falhas de memória. Na autoavaliação, verificou-se que 47,7% mencionaram dificuldades na memória prospectiva e de curto prazo e, em relação à rotina acadêmica dos universitários, 46,4% relataram dificuldades na memória retrospectiva. Conclusão há associação entre a presença de queixa e os dados da autoavaliação da memória.

ABSTRACT Purpose To investigate the memory self-assessment of university students. Methods Observational, cross-sectional, analytical study with a quantitative approach. A total of 519 students regularly enrolled in higher education institutions participated, with a mean age of 22.9 years (±5.5), being 408 women and 111 men. Data was collected through the Prospective and Retrospective Memory Questionnaire (PRMQ-10) and a questionnaire with sociodemographic information and memory complaints related to academic activities. Data were evaluated quantitatively, descriptively and inferentially, using the Chi-Squared Test with a p-value <5%. Results University students reported frequent memory difficulties, especially in the prospective and short term memory. It was found that 46.6% of the participants had memory complaints and 62.8% reported believing that routine at the university may lead to an increase in memory failure. In the self-assessment, 47.7% reported difficulties in prospective and short-term memory and, in relation to the academic routine of university students, 46.4% reported difficulties in retrospective memory. Conclusion There is an association between the presence of a memory complaint and the self-assessment of memory data.

ABSTRACT Purpose: this study aimed to analyze the vocabulary performance of children with Down syndrome, up to 36 months of age, in different semantic categories. Methods: eighteen children with Down syndrome, between 8 and 36 months of age. Section D of the MacArthur-Bates Communicative Development Inventory was applied with guardians: First Words and Gestures, in order to obtain expressive and receptive performance in 22 semantic categories. The data were analyzed in a descriptive and inferential manner, using the Kruskal-Wallis, Spearman's correlation and Tukey's range tests (p <0.05). Results: children had higher performance averages in understanding semantic categories than in understanding and expression. The “action words” were the most understood ones, while the “people” category was the most understood and expressed. The greater the chronological age, the greater the children's vocabulary. A statistical difference was found between the understanding of nouns and other categories, according to chronological age, with a greater performance after 24 months of age. Conclusion: children with Down syndrome, up to 36 months of age, perform better in understanding vocabulary in all semantic categories.

RESUMO Objetivo: investigar a inserção da Fonoaudiologia Educacional nas grades curriculares dos cursos de Fonoaudiologia no Brasil. Métodos: trata-se de uma pesquisa documental exploratória descritiva, com base em informações documentais de domínio público. Para a coleta de dados foram realizadas pesquisas no site do Conselho Federal de Fonoaudiologia seguida pela análise das matrizes curriculares de cada uma das instituições. Resultados: das 72 Instituições de Ensino Superior que oferecem o curso de bacharelado em Fonoaudiologia no Brasil e possuem a matriz curricular disponível no site, 34 possuem alguma disciplina voltada para a Fonoaudiologia Educacional. Na maioria das instituições, a disciplina possui carga horária igual ou maior que 40h, sendo que 87,88% dessas disciplinas tem caráter exclusivamente teórico. Conclusão: a presença da Fonoaudiologia Educacional nas grades curriculares é um avanço, porém ainda há um longo caminho a percorrer e ajustes a serem feitos para que a formação do fonoaudiólogo contemple satisfatoriamente o campo educacional.

ABSTRACT Purpose: to investigate the inclusion of Educational Speech-Language Pathology in the curricula of Speech-Language Pathology programs in Brazil. Methods: a descriptive, exploratory, documentary research based on information from public domain documents. Data were collected from the search on the website of the Conselho Federal de Fonoaudiologia, each institution’s curricula being analyzed. Results: a total of 72 higher education institutions in Brazil, offering a Speech-Language Pathology bachelor program, was found. Of those that had their curricula available on the website, 34 offered at least one course on Educational Speech-Language Pathology. In most institutions, such courses had a study load of 40 hours or more, and 87.88% were exclusively theoretical. Conclusion: the presence of Educational Speech-Language Pathology in the curricula represents a progress. However, there is still a long way to go and there are many adjustments to be made for the speech-language pathologist’s training to satisfactorily include the field of education.

RESUMO Objetivo: analisar e caracterizar as publicações fonoaudiológicas que têm como campo instituições de ensino brasileiras. Métodos: houve o acesso nas páginas de todas as revistas ativas e inativas da Fonoaudiologia nacional para análise dos títulos e resumos de todos os artigos que remetiam à pesquisa em instituições de ensino. Foram selecionados artigos publicados nos periódicos analisados, que tratam de questões fonoaudiológicas e foram desenvolvidos em instituições de ensino. Foi realizada a categorização e análise dos artigos encontrados, na categoria periódico publicado, ano de publicação, área do conhecimento da Fonoaudiologia da qual se aproximavam, cenário da pesquisa/tipo de instituição educacional, público alvo e procedimentos realizados nas instituições. Em seguida, realizou-se análise estatística descritiva. Resultados: a maior quantidade de pesquisas realizadas em instituições de ensino brasileiras foi publicada na revista CEFAC, e no ano de 2015. Tais pesquisas estavam relacionadas, principalmente, à área da linguagem, sendo a maioria realizada com estudantes do ensino fundamental e com o objetivo de coletar dados a respeito da avaliação e/ou diagnóstico desses estudantes. Conclusão: as pesquisas fonoaudiológicas nacionais realizadas em instituições de ensino tem privilegiado práticas nas áreas de Linguagem e Voz, no Ensino Fundamental, e com estudantes e professores.

ABSTRACT Purpose: to analyze and characterize the speech-language-hearing publications that have Brazilian educational institutions as their field. Methods: all the national active and inactive speech-language-hearing journals were accessed to analyze the titles and abstracts of all articles that referred to research in educational institutions. Articles addressing speech-language-hearing issues, developed in educational institutions, and published in the journals analyzed were selected. The articles found were categorized and analyzed. The categories considered the journal of publication, year of publication, the speech-language-hearing field of knowledge they approached, research context/type of educational institution, target audience, and procedures conducted in the educational institutions. Then, a descriptive statistical analysis was carried out. Results: the largest amount of research made in Brazilian educational institutions was published in CEFAC, in 2015. Such studies were mainly related to the field of language, most of them conducted with elementary school students, to collect data on their assessment and/or diagnosis. Conclusion: national speech-language-hearing research conducted in educational institutions has privileged practices in the fields of language and voice, in elementary school, with students and teachers.

RESUMO Objetivo: analisar as contribuições da intervenção fonoaudiológica para o desenvolvimento da linguagem em crianças com síndrome de Down (SD). Métodos: os participantes da pesquisa foram 11 crianças com SD, entre zero a cinco anos de idade de ambos os sexos, que foram atendidos em um projeto de extensão universitária, durante oito sessões terapêuticas pautadas em diretrizes de estimulação. Antes e após a estimulação fonoaudiológica foi realizada a avaliação das crianças. As diretrizes de estimulação contemplavam os seguintes aspectos do desenvolvimento da linguagem: coordenação dos esquemas sensório-motores; constituição da permanência do objeto; imitação gestual/corporal; imitação de produções orais; imitação diferida e uso de esquema simbólico; intenção comunicativa; vocabulário receptivo e vocabulário expressivo: palavras e frases. O trabalho foi aprovado pelo comitê de ética em pesquisa da instituição de origem. Os dados foram analisados quantitativamente. Resultados: houve diferença estatística nos resultados pré e pós-intervenção fonoaudiológica em habilidades dos parâmetros de: imitação gestual/corporal, imitação de produções orais, imitação diferida e uso de esquema simbólico, intenção comunicativa e vocabulário receptivo. Conclusão: a estimulação precoce de aspectos linguísticos e cognitivos é importante no desenvolvimento da criança com SD, como observado na evolução terapêutica imediata da crianças após a intervenção fonoaudiológica.

ABSTRACT Objective: to analyze the contributions of speech-language therapy to the language development of children with Down syndrome (DS). Methods: eleven children with DS participated in the research. The children were between zero and five years of age, of both genders and attending a university extension project involving eight therapy sessions following stimulation guidelines. Children were evaluated before and after speech-language stimulation. The stimulation guidelines were based on the following aspects of language development: coordination of sensorimotor schema, constitution of object permanence, gestural/body imitation, imitation of utterances, deferred imitation and use of symbolic schema, communicative intent, receptive vocabulary and expressive vocabulary: words and phrases. The study was approved by the Research Ethics Committee of the institution. Data were analyzed quantitatively. Results: there were significant differences in the pre- and post-speech-language intervention in the following skills parameters: gestural/body imitation, imitation of utterances, deferred imitation and use of symbolic schema, communicative intent and receptive vocabulary. Conclusion: early stimulation of linguistic and cognitive aspects is important in the development of children with DS, as evidenced by the immediate development of speech-language skills in children after the intervention.

RESUMO Objetivo Verificar se existe relação entre medidas perceptivo-auditivas e de autoavaliação em pacientes portadores de esclerose múltipla, com e sem queixa vocal. Métodos Participaram 18 sujeitos com diagnóstico de esclerose múltipla, com idades entre 21 e 67 anos, sendo 12 mulheres e seis homens. Foram aplicados uma breve anamnese, a Escala de Sintomas Vocais e o protocolo Vivendo com Disartria, seguidos da gravação da vogal /ԑ/ sustentada. A intensidade do desvio vocal e os graus de rugosidade, soprosidade, tensão e instabilidade foram avaliados por três fonoaudiólogos, utilizando-se uma escala analógico-visual de 100 mm. Resultados Os pacientes com esclerose múltipla com queixa vocal apresentaram maiores escores nos domínios total (p= 0,026) e limitação (p= 0,042) da Escala de Sintomas Vocais; na seção um (p= 0,041), seção quatro (p= 0,030) e seção dez (p= 0,050) do protocolo Vivendo com Disartria. Houve correlação positiva forte entre os escores da Escala de Sintomas Vocais, domínios total e limitação e os escores da seção um, quatro e nove do protocolo Vivendo com Disartria. Conclusão Pacientes com esclerose múltipla com queixa vocal possuem maior frequência de ocorrência de sintomas e maior impacto da disartria na comunicação. Não há relação entre as medidas perceptivo-auditivas e de autoavaliação em pacientes portadores de esclerose múltipla. No entanto, os escores dos dois instrumentos de autoavaliação utilizados são fortemente correlacionados.

ABSTRACT Purpose To determine the relationships between auditory-perceptual and self-assessment measures in patients with multiple sclerosis with and without vocal complaints. Methods Eighteen subjects diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, including 12 women and 6 men aged between 21 to 67 years, participated in the study. A brief anamnesis, the Voice Symptom Scale and the Living with Dysarthria questionnaire were completed, followed by recording of the sustained /ԑ/ vowel. The overall severity of vocal deviation and the degrees of roughness, breathiness, strain and instability were assessed by three speech therapists using a 100-mm visual analogue scale. Results Patients with multiple sclerosis and vocal complaints had higher Total (p= 0.026) and Limitation (p= 0.042) scores on the Voice Symptom Scale and on sections one (p= 0.041), four (p= 0.030) and ten (p= 0.050) of the Living with Dysarthria questionnaire. Strong positive correlations were found between the Total and Limitation scores of the Voice Symptom Scale and the scores of sections one, four and nine of the Living with Dysarthria questionnaire. Conclusion Patients with multiple sclerosis and vocal complaints have higher frequencies of symptom occurrence and emotional and speech effects. No relationship was found between auditory-perceptual and self-assessment measures in patients with multiple sclerosis. However, the scores on the two self-assessment instruments used are strongly correlated.

RESUMO Objetivo Analisar as contribuições da Fonoaudiologia no processo de inserção no ambiente laboral de jovens com síndrome de Down (SD), tendo em vista sua profissionalização. Método Foi aplicado um questionário em oito alunos de graduação, que fazem parte de um projeto de extensão com pessoas com síndrome de Down, cinco mães das pessoas com SD e quatro funcionários da instituição onde são realizados os estágios. As temáticas exploradas nas questões envolviam aspectos da comunicação, comportamento, interação social, autonomia e independência dos estagiários com síndrome de Down. Os jovens participantes do projeto com SD, denominados estagiários, passaram a fazer parte da rotina de trabalho de cinco setores da universidade em que se realizou a pesquisa. O estudo se caracteriza como descritivo e transversal e os dados foram analisados quanti e qualitativamente, e foi aprovada pelo comitê de ética em pesquisa da instituição de origem. Resultados Segundo os dados pesquisados as habilidades de linguagem das pessoas com SD foram consideradas boas, no entanto as mesmas não estavam efetivas para o mercado de trabalho. Após a inserção em um ambiente de trabalho, foi visto que houve mudanças significativas tanto na comunicação como na autonomia dos sujeitos do estudo. Os mesmos, não são independentes, mas após o estágio também foram perceptíveis mudanças no comportamento social, bem como na sua autonomia. Conclusão Houve mudanças no comportamento social, maior uso da autonomia e ganhos na comunicação, contribuindo no empoderamento dos jovens com síndrome de Down.

ABSTRACT Purpose To analyze the contributions of speech-language therapy in the integration of young individuals with Down syndrome (DS) into the workplace, with reference to their professionalization. Methods A questionnaire was distributed to eight undergraduate students (tutors) who participated in a project with individuals with DS, five mothers of individuals with DS, and five employees from the institution in which the present study was conducted. The questionnaire assessed the communication, memory, behavior, social interaction, autonomy and independence of the participants with DS, called “trainees”. The trainees were employed in one of five routine work sectors at the university that conducted the present study. The data collected in this descriptive and cross-sectional study were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. The Research Ethics Committee of the affiliated institute approved the project. Results Mothers and tutors rated the trainees’ language skills as “good”. However, their ratings differed from those of the participating employees. After the trainees with DS were placed in a work environment, significant changes were observed in their communication and autonomy. There was no improvement in the trainees’ independence, but after training noticeable changes were observed in their social behavior and autonomy. Conclusion Speech-language therapy during vocational training led to positive changes in the social behavior of individuals with DS, as evidenced by an increase in their autonomy and communication.

Resumo:OBJETIVO:analisar o poder discriminatório do diagrama de desvio fonatório na avaliação do tipo de voz predominante e da intensidade do desvio vocal em crianças.MÉTODOS:coletou-se a vogal /ε/ sustentada de 93 crianças. A intensidade do desvio e a qualidade vocal foram analisadas por meio da escala analógico-visual. Utilizou-se o diagrama para a análise acústica, com avaliação da distribuição dos sinais vocais de acordo com a área, quadrante, forma e densidade. Realizou-se o teste de igualdade de proporções e o teste Qui-quadrado(x2) para comparar as variáveis, e o teste de Correlação de Spearman para correlacionar as medidas acústicas e perceptivo-auditivas.RESULTADOS: houve correlação entre a classificação de quadrantes e a intensidade do desvio vocal para todos os parâmetros analisados. Houve diferença estatisticamente significante entre a proporção de crianças com rugosidade, soprosidade, tensão e instabilidade em relação à área, ao quadrante e à forma. Não houve diferença estatisticamente significante entre a proporção de crianças com e sem desvio da qualidade vocal em relação a todos os parâmetros analisados, ao considerar a distribuição das vozes nos quadrantes.CONCLUSÃO: o diagrama de desvio fonatório foi capaz de diferenciar a qualidade vocal predominante por meio da distribuição nos quadrantes, embora não tenha discriminado as vozes infantis saudáveis e alteradas.

Abstract:PURPOSE:to analyze the discriminating power of the phonatory deviation diagram (PDD) in assessing the predominant voice type and severity of voice deviance in children.METHODS:samples of the sustained vowel /ε/ were collected from 93 children. The severity of voice deviance and vocal quality were assessed with the aid of a visual analog scale. The PDD was used in the acoustic analysis, with an assessment of the distribution of the voice signals according to the area, quadrant, shape, and density in the diagram. The results were obtained from the statistical analysis of the variables using the test for equality of proportions, chi-squared test (Χ(2)), and Spearman's correlation. The level of statistical significance was set at ≤ 5% across analyses.RESULTS:a positive and statistically significant correlation was found between the classification based on the PDD quadrants and the severity of voice deviance for all the parameters analyzed except strain, which showed a negative correlation. Statistically significant differences were also noted in the proportion of children with voice roughness, breathiness, strain, and instability in relation to the area, quadrant, and shape in the PDD. There were no significant differences between the proportion of children with and without voice deviation for the evaluated parameters regarding the distribution of the voice samples in the quadrants.CONCLUSION:the PDD was capable of distinguishing the predominant vocal quality based on the distribution of the signals in the quadrants, although it could not discriminate between healthy and disordered children's voices.

Objetivo analisar as preferências dos ouvintes quanto ao sotaque regional e sotaque suavizado em contexto formal e informal de comunicação. Métodos três telejornalistas gravaram frases-veículo nas situações de sotaque regional e suavizado. As gravações foram apresentadas a 105 juízes, que escutaram os pares de palavras e responderam qual das duas pronúncias preferiam para a fala de apresentadores de telejornal (contexto formal), para falantes nativos da comunidade local (contexto informal) e para a própria fala (contexto informal). Resultados os ouvintes preferiram a presença de sotaque suavizado em contexto formal (apresentação de telejornal em todas as variantes linguísticas estudadas (p<0,0001) e, por outro lado, preferiram a presença de sotaque regional (p<0,0001) em contexto informal. Porém, para a própria fala, dentro do contexto informal, não houve uma preferência geral pelo sotaque regional ou suavizado, havendo significância estatística apenas para palatalização do /S/ em coda medial (p<0,0001) e não palatalização das dentais (p<0,0001), ambas características do sotaque regional, e a não ocorrência de monotongação (p<0,0001) e harmonização vocálica (p<0,0001), caracterizados como sotaque suavizado. Conclusão os ouvintes preferem à fala com sotaque suavizado em um contexto formal de comunicação, mas preferem o sotaque regional dentro de um contexto informal, principalmente em falantes menos escolarizados.

Purpose to analyze the preferences of listeners as the regional accent and accent softened in the context of formal and informal communication. Methods three TV news presenter recorded vehicle-phrases in situations of regional and soft accent. The recordings were presented to 105 judges, who heard pairs of words and asked which of the two pronunciations preferred to talk about television news presenters (formal context), for native speakers of the local community (informal context) and to the speech itself (context informal). Results the presence of listeners preferred the understated accent in a formal context (presentation of television news in all language variants studied (p <0.0001) and, on the other hand, preferred the presence of regional accents (p <0.0001) in informal context. however, speaks for itself, within the informal context, there was a general preference for regional accent or understated, statistical significance only for palatalization of / S / in medial coda (p <0.0001) and not palatalization of dental (p <0.0001), both characteristics of regional accents, and the non-occurrence of monophthongization (p <0.0001) and matching vowel (p <0.0001), characterized as understated accent. Conclusion listeners prefer to speaks with an accent softened in a formal communication but prefer the regional accent within an informal context, especially in less educated speakers.
