RESUMO O desenvolvimento de áreas urbanas intensifica o risco de inundação pelo acréscimo tanto do escoamento superficial quanto da exposição da população e infraestrutura. Neste trabalho, nós evidenciamos a importância da escolha do período de retorno para determinar o grau de perigo de inundação e suas características hidráulicas. A bacia do campus da UFSC foi utilizada para o teste, onde combinamos modelos hidrológicos e hidráulicos para definir a intensidade e grau de perigo de inundação. Seis mapas de intensidade de perigo foram elaborados a partir de diferentes períodos de retorno (2, 10, 25, 50, 100 e 500 anos), que foram usados para caracterizar cenários de baixa recorrência e alta recorrência. O mapa de baixa recorrência pode ser ideal para ver os efeitos nas construções enquanto o mapa de alta recorrência ajuda a identificar a segurança das pessoas. Observou-se que uma linha de tendência logarítmica se encaixa bem para todas as variáveis verificadas relacionadas a inundação (e.g. intensidade da chuva, velocidade média de inundação, área total de inundação). Este estudo é importante para compreender as diferenças entre os efeitos no mapeamento de perigo de inundação aos períodos de retorno e como podem influenciar as variáveis hidráulicas de inundação.

ABSTRACT The development of urban areas exacerbates flood risk by increasing both runoff and the exposure of population and infrastructure. In this study, we highlight the importance of return period choice on flood hazard degree and flood hydraulics characteristics. We use the UFSC campus basin as a test bed and combine a hydrological and a hydrodynamic model to define the flood hazard intensity and flood hazard degree. Six hazard intensity maps were elaborated using different return periods (2, 10, 25, 50, 100 and 500-years) that characterize low and high recurrence scenarios. The low recurrence hazard map can be ideal to verify hazard effects on buildings, while the high recurrence hazard map helps to identify people security. All variables related to the rainfall effect and its consequences (e.g. rainfall intensity, flood mean velocity, and total flood area) follow a logarithmic relationship, with a small variation for higher return periods. We highlight how different return periods can influence flood hydraulics and flood hazard and should therefore be considered in flood hazard mapping.

RESUMO Este artigo apresenta uma síntese das sessões especiais do XXIII Simpósio Brasileiro de Recursos Hídricos 2019, com o objetivo de compreender os principais avanços e desafios em recursos hídricos no Brasil. Foram analisados mais de 250 trabalhos e apresentações em 16 sessões especiais abrangendo temas como Variabilidade e Mudanças Climáticas, Desastres, Modelagem, Hidrologia de Grande Escala, Sensoriamento Remoto, Educação e Gestão de Recursos Hídricos. Esta avaliação destacou a diversidade única de atributos naturais e antrópicos dos recursos hídricos brasileiros, que oferece uma grande oportunidade para aprendizado sobre sistemas hidrológico e humano acoplados. A maioria das contribuições é relacionada a métodos e quantificação de fenômenos hídricos, existindo uma necessidade clara de incentivo a mais pesquisas em compreensão de fenômenos. Existe uma vasta rede de coautores, mas principalmente da academia e com certo grau de fragmentação regional. A comunidade da ABRhidro tem o desafio de aumentar a sua rede de colaboração, a cultura de análises de síntese, e construir uma agenda comum para a pesquisa em recursos hídricos. Também é o momento de alinhar esforços com a comunidade de recursos hídricos internacional, usando nossas experiências para contribuir ativamente na solução de questões relacionadas à água em nível global.

ABSTRACT In this paper we synthesize the special sessions of the XXIII Brazilian Water Resources Symposium 2019 in order to understand the major advances and challenges in the water sciences in Brazil. We analyzed more than 250 papers and presentations of 16 special sessions covering topics of Climate Variability and Change, Disasters, Modeling, Large Scale Hydrology, Remote Sensing, Education, and Water Resources Management. This exercise highlighted the unique diversity of natural and human water features in Brazil, that offers a great opportunity for understanding coupled hydrological and societal systems. Most contributions were related to methods and the quantification of water phenomena, therefore, there is a clear necessity for fostering more research on phenomena comprehension. There is a vast network of co-authorship among institutions but mostly from academia and with some degree of regional fragmentation. The ABRhidro community now has the challenge to enhance its collaboration network, the culture of synthesis analysis, and to build a common agenda for water resources research. It is also time for us to be aligned with the international water science community and to use our experiences to actively contribute to the tackling of global water issues.

RESUMO Geralmente, a base para qualquer mapeamento de inundação é informação sobre topográfica cuja resolução determina a precisão do mapa. Além disso, a batimetria detalhada do rio e o tipo de modelo usado também são relevantes. Portanto, o objetivo do presente estudo foi avaliar a influência de diferentes fontes de dados topográficos no mapeamento de inundações utilizando o modelo CAESAR-Lisflood e três configurações de Modelo Digital de Terreno (MDT), dentro das quais, duas estão disponíveis gratuitamente e outra gerada com levantamento em campo (topografia e batimetria). Primeiramente, foram avaliadas a resolução e a precisão de cada MDT, a partir da comparação de diferentes seções transversais, além da variação da área molhada e do erro relativo da velocidade média em função da profundidade. Posteriormente, após a elaboração dos mapas de inundação com cada MDT, os resultados foram comparados em termos de área inundada, largura média de inundação e profundidade de fluxo. Observa-se que, quanto mais precisa a resolução, menor a área de inundação. O mapa de inundação elaborado com o MDT por meio de levantamento em campo teve o melhor ajuste para a área observada. Entretanto, a relação entre a resolução topográfica e a profundidade do fluxo não foi bem clara nos resultados.

ABSTRACT Generally, the base for any flood mapping is the topography information whose resolution determines the map accuracy. Furthermore, river bathymetry in detail and the type of used model are also relevant. Therefore, the objective of the present study was to evaluate the influence of different sources of topographic data on the flood mapping by using the CAESAR-Lisflood model and three Digital Elevation Model (DEM) configurations, among which two were freely available, and the other was generated with field survey (topography and bathymetry). First, the resolution and precision of each DEM were evaluated, from the comparison of different cross-sections, besides the variation of the wetted area and absolute value of the relative error in mean velocity as a function of depth. Subsequently, after elaborating flood maps with each DEM, the results were compared in terms of flood area, mean flood width and flow depth. It is observed that the more accurate resolution, the smaller the flood area becomes. The flood map elaborated with the DEM through field survey had the best fit to the observed area. However the relation between the topographic resolutions and flow-depths was not clear in obtained results.

Resumo Os ângulos de junção em canais fluviais são determinados a partir de complexos processos de erosão e deposição, resultantes da dinâmica do fluxo da vazão, da morfologia do leito e das margens, das feições hidrogeomorfológicas da bacia, de sua ordem e do uso e da ocupação do solo. Conhecer os valores desses ângulos é importante para melhor entender as condições atuantes na bacia em estudo. Nesse sentido, o presente trabalho teve por objetivo determinar os ângulos de junção em canais fluviais, denominados α, β e γ, aplicando a lei dos cossenos. Foram utilizadas imagens aéreas do Google Earth Pro e coletadas VANT. Então, determinou-se os valores dos ângulos obtidos a partir dessas imagens, comparando-as aos valores calculados a partir do princípio da energia mínima. Para visualização e entendimento dos ângulos obtidos, foi utilizado o diagrama de ângulos de junção, sendo possível afirmar que a metodologia utilizando a lei dos cossenos, apresentou bons resultados para a determinação de ângulos de junção em canais fluviais.

Abstract The junction angles in fluvial channels are determined from complex erosion and deposition processes, resulting from river-flow dynamics, bed and margin morphology, and so on. Knowledge regarding these angles is important in order to better understand the existing conditions in a basin. In this sense, the objective of the present study was to determine the junction angles on fluvial channels, called α, β and γ, applying the law of cosines. Georeferenced Google Earth Pro images and UAV images were used. Then, the values calculated from the georeferenced aerial images were compared with the values calculated from the minimum energy principle. To visualize and understand the obtained angles, the Junction Angles Diagram was used. The obtained result shows that the methodology using georeferenced aerial images have good performance for determining junction angles on fluvial channels.

RESUMO Rios montanhosos estão presentes em uma grande porção dos territórios do planeta, especialmente nas regiões de cabeceiras, e vêm sendo utilizados para diversos fins, tais como recreação e atividades desportivas, mananciais de água e geração de energia hidrelétrica. Entretanto, suas características hidrogeomorfológicas ainda não são plenamente conhecidas. Neste contexto, o presente trabalho abordou os parâmetros relevantes necessários para caracterização de rios nestes ambientes a partir de revisão bibliográfica, em que se buscou avaliar o modo como os rios estavam sendo caracterizados e quais parâmetros hidrogeomorfológicos estavam sendo analisados em diferentes classificações. Os parâmetros mais comumente utilizados na caracterização de rios montanhosos são a declividade do canal, a relação entre largura e profundidade do rio, o grau de entrincheiramento do canal, a vazão, a carga de sedimentos e a granulometria dos sedimentos. Ainda, avaliou-se o cenário brasileiro no que tange a pesquisa em hidrogeomorfologia fluvial em rios montanhosos, constatando-se a necessidade de realizar mais atividades em campo para melhor entendimento da dinâmica fluvial montanhosa e caracterização fluvial.

ABSTRACT Mountain rivers are situated in a large portion of the terrestrial surface, especially in headwaters regions, and have been used for various purposes such as recreation, sporting activities, water resources and hydroelectric power generation. However, hydrogeomorphic characteristics of mountain rivers are not fully understood. In this context, the present paper aimed to identify relevant parameters for characterizing rivers in these environments based on bibliographical review. It was identified which parameters have been used and how they have been used to characterize mountain rivers in distinct classifications. The most cited parameters were channel gradient, relation between river width and depth, entrenchment ratio, discharge, sediment transport and grain-size distribution. Also, the current situation related to researches in fluvial geomorphology in mountain rivers in Brazil was evaluated, and the strong need of field survey as basis for the best understanding of mountain fluvial dynamics and characterization was verified.

RESUMO Neste estudo foram avaliados os efeitos do tamanho da partícula e de variações da concentração de sedimentos suspensos (CSS) sobre as leituras de turbidez de três sensores óptico-nefelométricos, com iguais características ópticas e geométricas, utilizando amostras de sedimentos suspensos coletadas na seção fluviométrica da bacia do Turcato (19,5 km²), localizada na Região Sul do Brasil. O material coletado passou por processos de peneiramento e pipetagem para fracionamento nas granulometrias areia e silte. Para cada diâmetro foram separadas frações com diferentes concentrações de sedimentos, variando entre 0,01 e 5,00 g.L-1. Os resultados demonstram grande influência da CSS e do tamanho da partícula sobre a turbidez. Para qualquer situação, o aumento da turbidez é inverso ao tamanho da partícula e diretamente relacionado ao aumento da CSS. As variações da turbidez, expressas em função da CSS (sensibilidade do sensor), são maiores para menores diâmetros, atingindo valores quase constantes para partículas de areia. As leituras de turbidez dos três sensores não apresentaram diferença significativa no nível de 5% pelo teste de Mann-Whitney rank sum . Para uma mesma CSS, a leitura de turbidez pode ser diferente, conforme a classe granulométrica analisada. A turbidez registrada pelo sensor para a classe silte equivale a uma turbidez observada para uma CSS dez vezes menor para a classe das areias.

ABSTRACT This study evaluates the effects of particle size and variations of CSS on turbidity readings of three optical-nephelometric sensors using sediment samples collected in the field. Samples were collected in fluviometric station at Turcato basin (19.5 km²), located in the South region of Brazil. The collected material underwent screening and pipetting processes for fractionation in sand and silt grain size. For each diameter were separated fractions with different sediment concentration ranging between 0.01 and 5.00 g.L-1. The results demonstrate great influence of CSS and particle size on turbidity readings. The increase in turbidity is opposite to particle size and directly related to CSS. Variations in turbidity, expressed in CSS function (sensor sensitivity), are higher for smaller diameters, reaching almost constant values for sand particles. Turbidity readings of the three sensors showed no significant difference in the level of 5% by the Mann-Whitney rank sum test. For a given CSS, the turbidity reading may be different, depending on the granulometric class analyzed. Turbidity recorded by the sensor to the silt-class is equivalent to a sensor response observed for a CSS ten times lower for the sand class.

RESUMO O presente trabalho detalha aspectos importantes a serem observados nos procedimentos de seleção e caracterização de uma bacia experimental florestal e instalação de um sistema de monitoramento hidrológico, com enfoque em fluviometria, pluviometria e tensiometria. Para tanto, utilizou-se a experiência adquirida no estudo de caso da bacia experimental do Rio Araponga (ARA), localizada no município de Rio Negrinho (SC). O levantamento dos pontos de nascentes e confluências permitiu a extração da rede de drenagem mais próxima da realidade considerando a base cartográfica disponível (escala 1:10.000). A determinação dos locais adequados dos aparelhos de monitoramento hidrológico foi possível somente com levantamento topográfico mais detalhado (escala 1:5.000).

ABSTRACT The objective of the present paper was to detail important aspects that should be considered for the selection and characterization of a forested experimental basin. Furthermore, the implementation of a hydrological monitoring system, focusing on runoff, rainfall, and tensiometric monitoring, was detailed. The description was based on the experience obtained in the case study of experimental Araponga basin river (ARA), located in the city of Rio Negrinho (SC). Points located on springs and river confluences were surveyed. Using these points, a drainage network closer to reality could be extracted from the base map at 1:10,000 scale. The determination of adequate locality of hydrological monitoring equipment was possible only with the topographic survey at 1:5,000 scale.

O objetivo deste trabalho foi determinar a distribuição de probabilidade que melhor se ajuste à variância da série histórica de precipitações diárias em seis estações na bacia hidrográfica do rio Taboão, região noroeste do Estado do Rio Grande do Sul, durante um período de sete anos, distribuídos nos intervalos de 05/05/03 a 09/05/06 e 01/07/07 a 04/06/11. Para isso, foram determinados os padrões de agrupamento, em relação à variância. Na comparação do ajustamento das distribuições observadas da variável variância com as distribuições teóricas, foi utilizado o teste de ajustamento de Shapiro-Wilk. Determinadas as distribuições Log Pearson e Gama, realizou-se o agrupamento das estações de acordo com sua variância pela distância Euclidiana através do método de Ward. Os agrupamentos propostos foram verificados através da ANOVA e teste de Tukey, resultando que os agrupamentos propostos não se sustentavam, demonstrando a homogeneidade entre a média das variâncias das séries históricas das estações analisadas. Os resultados obtidos permitem concluir que a precipitação na bacia do rio Taboão é homogênea.

The objective of this paper was to determine the probabilistic distribution that fits the variance of the precipitation data obtained in six stations located at Taboão river watershed, northwestern region of Rio Grande do Sul State, during a seven years period from 5/May/2003 to 9/May/2006 and from 1/July/2007 to 4/June/2011. Group patterns were determined in relation to the variance. The Shapiro-Wilk test was used for a comparison between the observed and theoretical distributions of the variance. After determining the Log Pearson and Gama distribution, the grouping of stations was performed based on theirs variances by the Euclidean distance using the Ward's method. The evaluation with the ANOVA and Tukey's test showed that the proposed groupings were not sustainable, which implies the homogeneity among the mean values of the historical series variances from the six analyzed precipitation stations. The obtained results permit to conclude that the precipitation is homogeneous in the Taboão river watershed.

Os objetivos deste trabalho foram estimar e avaliar a dimensão fractal da rede de drenagem da bacia hidrográfica do Caeté, em Alfredo Wagner, SC, a partir de diferentes métodos, com o propósito de caracterizar as formas geomorfológicas irregulares. A rede de drenagem apresenta propriedades multifractais. As dimensões fractais para os segmentos individuais (df) e para a rede de drenagem inteira (Df) foram determinadas por métodos que se fundamentaram nas razões de Horton e pelo método da contagem de caixas (Box-Counting). A rede de drenagem tem característica de autoafinidade. A dimensão fractal proveniente da relação de parâmetros obtidos pelas Leis de Horton apresentou resultados dentro dos limiares da teoria da geometria fractal.

The objective of the present work was to evaluate the fractal dimensions of the drainage network of the Caeté river watershed, Alfredo Wagner/SC, with different methods in order to characterize the irregular geomorphologic forms. The drainage network possesses multi-fractal properties. That is why the fractal dimensions for the individual segments (df) and for the entire network (Df) were evaluated with Horton's Laws and the Box-Counting method. The drainage network has self-affinity characteristics. The fractal dimension obtained through the parameters relationship of Horton's Laws showed the results within the thresholds of the fractal geometry theory.

O presente trabalho teve como objetivo analisar os processos hidrológicos e avaliar o balanço hídrico da bacia hidrográfica do Ribeirão da Onça, no município de Colombo/PR, área de manancial da Região Metropolitana de Curitiba, para o período de monitoramento existente, de 1997 a 2000. Os métodos utilizados foram o do balanço hídrico simplificado e de Penman modificado. O método do balanço hídrico mostrou-se inválido para estimar a evapotranspiração real da área de estudo, por produzir valores negativos e superiores a evapotranspiração potencial, permitindo inferir que em determinados períodos, o volume de recursos hídricos extraídos é superior ao índice de precipitação, o que leva a deduzir que existem áreas de recarga do aqüífero externa aos divisores superficiais da bacia. O balanço hídrico da bacia do Ribeirão da Onça permitiu identificar a contribuição da água subterrânea, onde a média anual recebida pela bacia para o período de 1998 a 2000, foi de 554 mm/ano.

With the objective to analyze the hydrological processes and the water balance, a simplified water balance method and the modified Penman formula were applied to the Ribeirão da Onça river catchment in Colombo city, Paraná State. For the analysis, the data obtained during the monitoring period from 1997 to 2000 were utilized. The results showed that the values of the real evapotranspiration estimated by the method of the simplified water balance were negative for the certain periods and for other period sometimes more than those of the potential evapotranspiration estimated by the modified Penman formula. It implied the existence of significant groundwater recharge from other catchments to the study area, and indicates that the simplified water balance method was not suitable for the hydrological study of this karst catchment. The value of the groundwater recharge received by this catchment was estimated as 554 mm/year for the analysis period.

Este trabalho teve o objetivo de avaliar a influência das minhocas sobre o movimento da água no solo. O fluxo da água unidimensional, vertical e não saturada foi expresso com base na equação de Picharas, que foi resolvida pelo método de diferenças finitas. As propriedades hidráulicas dos solos com e sem minhocas, que foram medidas no campo, foram utilizadas e expressas com as equações de VAN GENUCHTEN (1980). Os resultados mostram que a atividade das minhocas aumenta o pico do hidrograma no solo onde a água subsuperficial é dominante no processo chuva-vazão. Entretanto, o fenômeno do aumento do pico depende da relação entre os aumentos da condutividade hidráulica saturada (Ks) e da umidade saturada (tetas). Se as minhocas provocarem um pequeno aumento em Ks ou um elevado aumento em tetas, haverá uma redução do pico. Caso ocorra contrário, um elevado aumento em Ks ou um pequeno aumento em tetas, este pico aumenta.

The objective of this study was to evaluate, with a numerical method, the influence of earth worms on the soil-water movement. The one-dimensional, vertical, saturated and unsaturated water flow was expressed by the Richards equation. The generated equations were solved with a fïnite difference method. The hydraulic properties of soils with and without earthworms, which were measured on field, were utilized and expressed with VAN GENUCHTEN (1980) equations. The results demonstrated that the eathworms activity increased a peak of hydrograph of soil where the subsurface flow is dominant in the rainfall-runoff process. However, the phenomenon of this increase depenas on the relation between the increases of the saturated hydraulic conductivity (Ks) and the saturated water content (thetas). When the earthworms provide a small increase of Ks and a large increase of thetas, the peak would decrease. In the contrary case where Ks increases a lot and thetas increases a little, the peak would increase.

An experiment to observe some changes of composition and population of Oribatei and Collembola was carried out on a Cambicsoil covered with Pinus taeda L. (Pinaceae). This study area is located on the Canguiri Experimental Station Center, Universidade Federal do Paraná, 20km north to Curitiba city, Brazil. The climate of the area is subtropical. The observations resulted in a conclusion that the compaction strongly changes the structure of edaphic mesofauna community as the consequence of the modification of physical properties of soils.
