Resumen “Pioneras: Las Científicas del Museo Argentino de Ciencias Naturales” es un ciclo que se inició en el mes de marzo del año 2019 en el marco del Día Internacional de la Mujer. Este ciclo surgió a partir de un grupo de mujeres autoconvocadas del Museo y tiene por objetivo reconocer y homenajear la labor de las primeras mujeres que desempeñaron actividades científicas dentro de nuestra Institución. En su tercera edición (2021), el ciclo rindió homenaje a tres brillantes profesionales y pioneras de la aracnología: Berta S. Gerschman de Pikelin, Rita D. E. Schiapelli y María Elena Galiano. Estas tres investigadoras han dedicado su carrera científica al estudio de arañas neotropicales. A lo largo de su trayectoria, no sólo han dado origen a la Colección Nacional de Aracnología del Museo, sino que también han dejado un legado de más de 150 trabajos científicos publicados y alrededor de 200 nuevas especies descriptas, construyendo una base sólida para investigaciones futuras.

Abstract “Pioneers: Women Scientists of the Museo Argentino de Ciencias Naturales’’ is a cycle that began in March 2019 within the framework of the International Women’s Day. It began as an initiative of a self-convened group of working women of the Museum, with the aim of recognizing and honoring the trajectories of the first women who carried out scientific activities within our Institution. In the third edition (2021), the cycle paid tribute to three brilliant professionals and pioneers in arachnology: Berta S. Gerschman de Pikelin, Rita D. E. Schiapelli, and María Elena Galiano. These three researchers dedicated their scientific careers to studying Neotropical spi ders. Along their careers, they built up the Arachnology National Collection. Furthermore, they left a legacy of more than 150 published papers and nearly 200 new described species, providing a solid basis for future scientific research.

The crab spider genus Uraarachne Keyserling 1880 currently comprises two species: U. longa Keyserling (type species, from Brazil, and herein newly recorded from Paraguay) and U. vittata (Caporiacco) from French Guiana. Uraarachne is herein proposed, on base of somatic and genitalic characters, as a senior synonym of Plancinus Simon 1886, which is known from three species from Uruguay: P. runcinioides Simon (type species), P. cornutus Simon, and P. brevipes Simon (all three transferred here to Uraarachne). Uraarachne runcinioides new comb., (type species of Plancinus), and U. cornuta new comb., are reported for the first time for Argentina and redescribed, based on the type specimens and new material, including the first known males. Four new species are described from Argentina: U. panthera n. sp., and U. ceratophrys n. sp. (from Misiones province, both on base of single male specimens), U. toro n. sp. (from Salta province, female only), and U. kapiity n. sp. (from the argentine provinces of Chaco, Corrientes, and Entre Ríos, and from Paraguay, on base of both sexes). Two additional species are transferred to Uraarachne: Runcinia plana Simon, previously known only from juveniles from Paraguay (adults described here for the first time, and distribution extended to central-eastern Argentina), and Misumenoides variegatus Mello-Leitão, known from the holotype male from Santa Fe (female described here for the first time, and distribution extended to Paraguay and Buenos Aires, Argentina). Platyarachne argentina Mello-Leitão and Erissoides argentinus Mello-Leitão are newly synonymized with Uraarachne runcinioides. The relationships of the genus are breafly discussed, proposing a close relationship with Runcinia Simon.

El género de arañas cangrejo Uraarachne Keyserling 1880, actualmente comprende dos especies: U. longa Keyserling (especie tipo, de Brasil y recientemente registrada en Paraguay) y U. vittata (Caporiacco) de Guayana Francesa. Aquí se propone Uraarachne -sobre la base de varios caracteres de morfología somática y genital- como sinónimo anterior de Plancinus Simon 1886, conocido hasta la fecha por tres especies de Uruguay: P. runcinioides Simon (especie tipo), P. cornutus Simon y P. brevipes Simon (las tres se transfieren aquí a Uraarachne). Uraarachne runcinioides n. comb. (especie tipo de Plancinus) y U. cornuta n. comb. se citan por primera vez para Argentina y son redescriptas en base a los especímenes tipo y a material recientemente encontrado en colecciones argentinas, incluyendo los primeros machos conocidos. Cuatro nuevas especies se describen para Argentina: U. panthera n. sp. y U. ceratophrys n. sp. (de la provincia de Misiones, ambas en base a especímenes machos), U. toro n. sp. (de la provincia de Salta, sólo una hembra), y U. kapiity n. sp. (de las provincias argentinas de Chaco, Corrientes y Entre Ríos, y de Paraguay, en base a los dos sexos). Adicionalmente, otras dos especies se transfieren a Uraarachne: Runcinia plana Simon, conocida previamente por juveniles de Paraguay (los adultos se describen por primera vez, y se extiende su distribución conocida hasta el centro-este de Argentina), y Misumenoides variegatus Mello-Leitão, conocida previamente por el macho holotipo de Santa Fe (la hembra se describe aquí por primera vez, extendiéndose su distribución conocida hasta Paraguay y Buenos Aires). Platyarachne argentina Mello-Leitão y Erissoides argentinus Mello-Leitão son sinonimizadas con Uraarachne runcinioides. Los parentescos probables del género son brevemente discutidos, proponiéndose una posible cercanía con Runcinia Simon.

A new species of the zodariid Neotropical genus Epicratinus Jocqué & Baert, 2005, E. santacruz, is described from Santa Cruz Department, Bolivia. This is the fifth species described for the genus, and the first zodariid known from Bolivia.

Una nueva especie del género neotropical de zodáridos Epicratinus Jocqué & Baert, 2005, E. santacruz, es descrita para el Departamento de Santa Cruz, Bolivia. Esta es la quinta especie descrita en el género, y la primera zodárida conocida para Bolivia.

The present paper compiles taxonomic information of spider species from Costanera Sur Ecological Reserve (RECS), Buenos Aires City, Argentina. The list is composed by published records, as well as data from new samplings obtained during the last eight years and other material deposited in the collection of the Museo Argentino de Ciencias Naturales “Bernardino Rivadavia”. For each species, the material examined is detailed and comments or identification notes are added in relevant cases. Specific richness is 191 distributed in 35 families of the infraorder Araneomorphae; 22 species are cited for the first time for the Argentine fauna and the known distribution of over 30 species is broadened, becoming RECS their southern limit. Moreover, considering the 49 morphospecies that could not be identified (many of them new or potentially new species for science), the Argentine spider fauna might increase approximately in 70 species.

En el presente trabajo se compila la información taxonómica de las especies de arañas registradas en la Reserva Ecológica Costanera Sur (RECS), Ciudad Autónoma de Buenos Aires, Argentina. El listado se compone de registros publicados, así como nuevos datos obtenidos a partir de muestreos realizados en los últimos ocho años y otros ejemplares depositados en la Colección del Museo Argentino de Ciencias Naturales “Bernardino Rivadavia”. Para cada especie se detalla el material examinado y se agregan comentarios o notas de identificación en los casos pertinentes. La riqueza asciende a 191 morfoespecies distribuidas en 35 familias del infraorden Araneomorphae; 22 especies son citadas por primera vez para la fauna argentina y para unas 30 se amplía su distribución conocida, convirtiéndose la RECS en el límite sur. Además, considerando las 49 morfoespecies que no pudieron ser identificadas (varias de ellas nuevas o potencialmente nuevas especies para la ciencia), la araneofauna argentina podría incrementarse en aproximadamente 70 especies.

Verita williamsi, new genus and species (Araneae, Gnaphosidae) is described from specimens recently collected in Northern Santa Fe Province, Argentina. The peculiar combination of having only two piriform gland spigots, aligned setae on the leg scopulae, and anterior lateral spinnerets not widely spaced suggests that the species is probably a close relative of Micaria and some of the small representatives of the Anzacia group of genera. It differs from all of them by having three teeth in the cheliceral retromargin and lacking iridescent squamose scales in the abdomen.

Estas arañas muestran una peculiar combinación de caracteres, solamente dos fúsulas de glándulas piriformes, setas alineadas en la escópula de las patas y las hileras anteriores no muy apartadas entre ellas, que sugieren que la especie está cercanamente emparentada a Micaria y a algunos de los representantes pequeños del grupo de géneros Anzacia. Se distingue de todos ellos por tener tres dientes en el retromargen queliceral y por carecer de setas escamosas iridiscentes en el abdomen.

The male of the Chilean zodariid spider Cybaeodamus lycosoides (Nicolet, 1849) is described and illustrated for the first time. New records for this species are provided, including the first from Peru, as also new localities from Argentina for C. meridionalis Lise, Ott & Rodrigues.

El macho de la araña zodariida chilena Cybaeodamus lycosoides (Nicolet, 1849) se describe e ilustra por primera vez. Se aportan nuevos registros para esta especie, incluyendo los primeros para Perú, como también nuevas localidades de Argentina para C. meridionalis Lise, Ott & Rodrigues, 2009.

The taxonomy of the genus Latonigena Simon is updated after the study of the collection of the Museo Argentino de Ciencias Naturales (Buenos Aires). Two new species are described: L. pampa, n. sp., from Buenos Aires Province, Argentina, and L. pittieri, n. sp., from Aragua, Venezuela (the first record of a member of this genus from that country). Three species previously known from Brazil (L. turvo, L. lami, and L. santana) are newly reported from Argentina, and the female of the latter is here described for the first time. Zelotes zonatus (Holmberg) is considered nomen dubium.

Se actualiza la taxonomía del género Latonigena Simon, después del estudio de la colección del Museo Argentino de Ciencias Naturales (Buenos Aires). Se describen dos nuevas especies: L. pampa, n. sp., de la provincia de Buenos Aires, Argentina, y L. pittieri, n. sp., de Aragua, Venezuela (el primer registro del género para ese país). Tres especies previamente conocidas de Brasil (L. turvo, L. lami y L. santana) se reportan por primera vez para Argentina, y la hembra de esta última se describe aquí por primera vez. Zelotes zonatus (Holmberg) es considerado nomen dubium.

O macho de Latonigena auricomis Simon, 1893 é descrito pela primeira vez e a fêmea é redescrita. Novos registros são fornecidos pra Argentina, Brasil e Uruguai. São apresentadas notas sobre a história natural e um modelo de distribuição potencial da espécie na Região Neotropical.

The male of Latonigena auricomis Simon, 1893 is described for the first time and the female is redescribed. New records are provided for Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay. Notes on the natural history and a potential distribution model of the species are presented in the Neotropical Region.

The male of Oonops nigromaculatus Mello-Leitão 1944 is described for the first time and the female is redescribed from recently collected specimens. New records from Argentina and Uruguay are provided.

Se describe por primera vez el macho de Oonops nigromaculatus Mello-Leitão 1944, y la hembra se redescribe sobre la base de nuevos especímenes colectados recientemente. Se proveen nuevos registros de la Argentina y Uruguay.

Two new species of the family Mecysmaucheniidae are described: Mecysmauchenius platnicki n. sp., from Malleco, Chile and Mecysmauchenioides quetrihue n. sp., from Neuquén, Argentina, the latter being the second known species of the genus.

Se describen dos nuevas especies de la familia Mecysmaucheniidae: Mecysmauchenius platnicki, sp. nov., de Malleco, Chile y Mecysmauchenioides quetrihue, sp. nov., de Neuquén, Argentina, constituyendo esta última la segunda especie conocida de su género.

Two new species of the genus Philoponella Mello-Leitão, 1917 are described: P. ramirezi, from the Atlantic forest of the State of Minas Gerais, Brazil, and P. pomelita, from the subtropical forests of the Province of Misiones, Argentina. Relationships of these new species are discussed.

Two new species of the spider family Palpimanidae from Guyana are described: Fernandezina takutu, the first species of this genus known from this country andOtiothops giralunas, that seems to be the sister species of O. goloboffi Grismado, 1996 from northwestern Argentina.
