Abstract Judith Butler productively explores the broadening of the spectrum of Foucault’s concept of “critique”. The nexus between critique and formation and between self-critique and self-education permeates the arguments of the two authors. Still, Butler indicates how much critique itself as virtue, discussed by Foucault, needs the formative dimension to be able to clarify in a post-foundationalist theoretical context of non-prescriptive normativity. This article intends to show that, with this step, Butler’s reconstruction of the problem reaches a new level, both clarifying the meaning of self-formation of the subject and more accurately indicating the new meaning assumed by the Foucauldian notion of “critique” as virtue. RESUMEN El artículo analiza los desafíos derivados del creciente predominio de la visión neoliberal y la funcionalización de la educación en el contexto de la cultura digital y sus implicaciones para la concepción de la educación universitaria. El desarrollo del texto involucra tres temas: el primero, que analiza la funcionalización de la educación en el contexto de la cultura digital, el segundo, que presenta y reflexiona sobre algunos resultados derivados del avance de la mediación digital en la formación universitaria, y el tercero, que evalúa los desafíos éticos de la formación ante el avance del tecnopoder y la industria cultural digital. ABSTRACT The article analyzes the challenges arising from the growing predominance of the neoliberal vision and the functionalization of education in the context of digital culture and its implications for the conception of university education. O ensaio analisa a relação hoje existente entre educação e mercado. Trata-se de uma realidade cada vez mais forte e evidente, com influência determinante sobre os rumos, os sentidos e as práticas pedagógicas. Cada vez mais a educação é funcionalizada no sentido de tornar-se uma prática voltada ao atendimento dos interesses e objetivos do mercado e não da formação das pessoas enquanto seres humanos autônomos e livres. O texto defende o ponto de vista de que a educação, muito embora deva preparar as pessoas para o exercício profissional, deve ter, como responsabilidade fundamental, a educação integral das pessoas, envolvendo as dimensões racional, ética e estética. O texto tem, portanto, o objetivo de chamar a atenção do leitor para o risco do reducionismo pedagógico que trata apenas de preparar os jovens para o mercado de trabalho, cujos interesses são permeados pelo produtivismo, competitividade, monetarismo e a concorrência generalizada entre as pessoas. Tal tendência reduz e desqualifica qualquer potência transcendente de natureza ética que valoriza o cenário de direitos e deveres entre os seres humanos focados no bem comum, objetivo maior da educação.

The essay analyses the relationship between education and the market today. It is a reality that is becoming stronger and more evident, with a decisive influence on directions, senses and pedagogical practices. Increasingly education is functionalized in the sense of becoming a practice aimed at meeting the interests and objectives of the market and not the training of people as autonomous and free human beings. The text defends the view that education, although it should prepare people for the professional exercise, should have, as fundamental responsibility, the integral education of the people, involving the rational, ethical and aesthetic dimensions. The aim of the text is therefore to draw the attention of the reader to the risk of pedagogical reductionism that is only concerned with preparing young people for the labor market, whose interests are permeated by productivism, competitiveness, monetarism and widespread competition between people. Such a tendency reduces and disqualifies any transcendent power of an ethical nature that values the setting of rights and duties among human beings focused on the common good, the highest goal of education.

O objetivo do presente artigo é apresentar uma síntese da realidade do ensino superior brasileiro na atualidade a partir de seus aspectos legais, históricos e contextuais com o fito de instrumentalizar pesquisas cujo foco seja este nível educacional. A pesquisa bibliográfica realizou-se a partir de consulta à legislação atinente ao setor, bem como, aos autores que debatem a temática de forma a condensar dados que possibilitaram delinear o quadro da contemporaneidade. Restou observada a formulação de uma estrutura notadamente privatizada, historicamente consolidada, e fortalecida pelas novas demandas e estratégias governamentais para oportunizar tal etapa do ensino, convergentes com um modelo econômico neoliberal.

The aim of this article is to show a synthesis of the Brazilian higher education reality in the present time, based on its legal, historical and contextual aspects, in order to instrumentalize researches that focus on this educational level. The bibliographical research was carried out based on a referring to the legislation related to the subject, as well as the authors who debate the theme in order to condense data that allowed to delineate the contemporary configuration . It was verified the formulation of a notably privatized structure, historically consolidated, and strengthened by the new demands and governmental strategies to give opportunity to this stage of teaching, converged with a neoliberal economic model.

Resumo Neste texto o leitor encontra uma reflexão crítica sobre a formação humana nocontexto da proeminência das relações econômicas na orientação da vida subjetivae social. Argumenta-se que o sistema econômico vem se tornando o sentido e onorte do processo educacional. Nestes termos, não mais a formação do ser humanoem suas dimensões racional, ética e estética representa o sentido e o fio condutordo processo formativo, mas a preparação e a transformação das pessoas em “capitalhumano”, adaptado aos interesses do mercado. A pergunta a ser respondida é se, navalorização extrema do econômico, o ser humano ainda tem condições e chancesde preservar sua liberdade e autonomia como condições essenciais de suahumanidade. Defende-se que a educação pode e deve retomar uma agenda proativa,visando a educação integral do ser humano.

Abstract In this text the reader will find a critical reflection on human formation in the context of the prominence of economic relations in the orientation of subjective and social life. It is argued that the economic system has become the meaning and the north of the educational process. In this sense, theformation of the human being in its rational, ethical and aesthetic dimensions no longer represents the meaning and the guiding thread of the formative process, but the preparation and transformation of people into “human capital”, adapted to the interests of the market. The question to be answered is whether, in the extreme valuation of the economic, the human being still has conditions andchances to preserve his freedom and autonomy as essential conditions of his humanity. It is argued that education can and should resume a proactive agenda, aiming at the integral education of the human being.

RESUMO: A presente pesquisa examina os editoriais da revista Educação & Sociedade a partir de três recortes temáticos, a saber: Políticas públicas em educação; Planos Nacionais de Educação e Educação e mercado. Esses temas foram definidos a partir da leitura de todos os 144 editoriais, tendo como critérios a relevância e a recorrência dos referidos temas ao longo da história da revista, sobretudo do número 58 em diante. Os editoriais selecionados foram, então, relidos e estudados, visando detectar o tratamento político pedagógico que lhes era conferido pelo Conselho Editorial responsável pela sua elaboração. A leitura dos textos permitiu reconhecer o sentido admonitório de muitas análises e teses ali feitas e defendidas com relação aos rumos da política educacional do país que se estende da segunda metade da década de 1970, quando se iniciava o declínio da ditadura militar, até o presente, quando novamente se percebem sinais de um novo autoritarismo. Em termos gerais, permanece a forte impressão de que, ao longo desses últimos 40 anos da história do Brasil, a política educacional se moveu, sem centralidade, ao sabor dos interesses políticos, econômicos e ideológicos dos grupos que se sucederam no poder, sempre em prejuízo das camadas mais humildes da população.

ABSTRACT: The present research examines the editorials of the Journal Educação & Sociedade from three thematic approaches, namely: Public policies in education; National Plans of Education and Education and market. These themes were defined by the reading of all 144 editorials, based on the relevance and recurrence of these themes throughout the history of the magazine mainly from the number 58 onward. Selected editorials were, then, re-read and studied in order to detect the pedagogical and political treatment given by the editorial board responsible for their elaboration. The reading of these texts allowed us to recognize the admonitory sense of many analyzes and theses, which have been made and defended in relation to the direction of the country’s educational policy that extends from the second half of the 1970s, when the military dictatorship declined, until the current days, when signs of a new authoritarianism are again perceived. In general terms, the strong impression that remains is that over the last forty years of Brazilian history educational policy has been moved, without any centrality, to the political, economic and ideological interests of the groups that succeeded in power, always at the expense of the humblest layers of the population.

RESUMEN: La presente investigación examina los editoriales de la revista Educação & Sociedade a partir de tres recortes temáticos, a saber: Políticas públicas en educación; Planes Nacionales de Educación y Educación y mercado. Esos temas fueron definidos a partir de la lectura de todos los 144 editoriales, teniendo como criterio la relevancia y la recurrencia de los referidos temas a lo largo de la historia de la revista, del número 58 en adelante. Los editoriales seleccionados fueron, entonces, releídos y estudiados, proponiendo detectar el tratamiento político pedagógico que les era conferido por el Consejo Editorial responsable por su elaboración. La lectura de los textos permitió reconocer el sentido admonitorio de muchos análisis y tesis allí hechas y defendidas con relación a los rumbos de la política educacional del país que se extiende de la segunda mitad de la década de 1970, cuando se iniciaba el declive de la dictadura militar, hasta el presente, cuando nuevamente se notan señales de un nuevo autoritarismo. En términos generales, permanece la fuerte impresión de que, a lo largo de estos últimos 40 años de la historia de Brasil, la política educacional se movió, sin centralidad, al sabor de los intereses políticos, económicos e ideológicos de los grupos que se sucedieron en el poder, siempre en perjuicio de las clases más humildes de la población.
