Resumo Neste trabalho realizamos uma análise documental em livros didáticos usados no ensino médio brasileiro para avaliar como é apresentado o contexto histórico sobre a descrição da transformação bacteriana, que consiste em um episódio histórico importante para o reconhecimento do DNA como molécula hereditária. Além disso, utilizamos a epistemologia de Ludwik Fleck (1896-1961) para análise dessa contextualização. Apenas quatro dentre os dez livros analisados apresentaram o episódio de transformação bacteriana. Com relação à análise epistemológica, detectamos que a contextualização histórica apresentada nesses quatro livros algumas vezes está descrita de forma descontextualizada e linear, impossibilitando o aluno vislumbrar a ciência como uma produção humana e coletiva, bem como os aspectos sociais que caracterizam a forma de produção do conhecimento científico segundo o pensamento de Fleck, tais como: estilos de pensamento, circulação de ideias, complicações, transformações, e coerção do pensamento hegemônico da área.

Abstract In this paper we analyze a set of textbooks used in Brazilian high school to evaluate how the historical context is presented when it comes to bacterial transformation, which is an important historical episode for DNA recognition as a hereditary molecule. In addition, we used the epistemology of Ludwik Fleck (1896-1961) to further analyze this historical context. Only four of the ten books presented the episode of bacterial transformation. As we turn to the epistemological analysis, we found that historical contextualization presented in these four books is sometimes described in a decontextualized and linear way, making it impossible for the student to assimilate not only science as a human and collective production, but the social aspects involved in producing scientific knowledge according to Fleck’s writings: thought style, exchange of ideas, complications and transformations, as well as coercion in terms of hegemonic thought in the area.

Resumo O uso de história e filosofia da ciência no ensino-aprendizagem é comumente negligenciado, linear e/ou descontextualizado nos livros didáticos. Isso aconteceria com a história do conceito de enzimas? Este trabalho busca investigar essa questão. Para a fundamentação teórica, foi realizada breve revisão bibliográfica, investigando-se como o conceito de enzimas é apresentado em nove livros didáticos, seguindo três categorias de análise. Encontrou-se, de forma geral, falta de interconexão nos assuntos de bioquímica, sendo as enzimas usualmente apresentadas apenas pelo modelo “chave-fechadura”, que hoje não é representativo da complexidade do fenômeno. Além disso, foram observados limites conceituais decorrentes da ausência ou deficiência na contextualização histórica presente no material didático.

Abstract The use of the history and philosophy of science in teaching and learning is commonly neglected, linear, and/or out of context in textbooks. This article investigates whether this also occurs with the concept of enzymes. A brief review of the literature establishes the theoretical foundation to investigate how the concept of enzymes is presented in nine textbooks, following three different lines of analysis. A general lack of interconnection was seen in biochemistry topics, with enzymes usually only presented via the “lock-and-key” model, which does not best represent their complexity. Furthermore, conceptual limitations resulting from a lack of historical contextualization (partial or complete) were also observed.

Abstract The study of transferability of simple sequence repeats (SSR) among closely related species is a well-known strategy in population genetics, however transferability among distinct genera is less common. We tested cross-genera SSR amplification in the family Cactaceae using a total of 20 heterologous primers previously developed for the genera Ariocarpus, Echinocactus, Polaskia and Pilosocereus, in four taxa of the genus Cereus: C. fernambucensis subsp. fernambucensis, C. fernambucensis subsp. sericifer, C. jamacaru and C. insularis. Nine microsatellite loci were amplified in Cereus resulting in 35.2% of success in transferability, which is higher than the average rate of 10% reported in the literature for cross-genera transferability in eudicots. The genetic variation in the transferred markers was sufficient to perform standard clustering analysis, indicating each population as a cohesive genetic cluster. Overall, the amount of genetic variation found indicates that the transferred SSR markers might be useful in large-scale population studies within the genus Cereus.

ResumoA Teoria Cromossômica da Herança (TCH), elaborada no início do século XX, consiste na proposição de que os fatores mendelianos estariam ligados aos cromossomos. Neste trabalho, foi realizada uma análise qualitativa sobre ensino-aprendizagem da TCH, envolvendo análise documental dos materiais didáticos e entrevistas semiestruturadas com discentes do Ensino Médio. Os resultados sugerem que os discentes não foram capazes de relacionar padrões de herança mendelianos com o processo de meiose. Com relação à análise documental, foi observada a dissociação dos conteúdos de Genética mendeliana dos de divisão celular meiótica. Uma proposta para superação dessa dificuldade seria trabalhar as bases epistemológicas da TCH usando a história da ciência. Essa proposta está fundamentada na ideia de que o contexto histórico-filosófico humaniza as ciências, podendo colaborar para a formação crítica do discente bem como para a aprendizagem significativa sobre a elaboração dos conceitos relacionados à temática estudada.

AbstractThe Chromosomal Theory of Inheritance (TCI) developed in the early of twentieth century proposes that the Mendelian factors were linked to chromosomes. Here we performed a qualitative analysis on teaching and learning of the TCI, through the analysis of Biology textbooks and semi-structured interviews with high school students. The results suggest that students were not able to establish relationships between Mendelian inheritance and meiosis. Regarding the textbooks, we observed the clear dissociation of the contents between Mendel's laws and meiotic cell division. One way to overcome this difficulty would be a focus in the epistemology of the TCI using the history of science. This proposal has basis on the idea that historical and philosophical contexts can humanize the sciences and further may contribute to the critical formation of the student as well as support meaningful learning on the development of concepts related to the topic studied.
