Abstract Only within the last decade, the works of Uruguay an Engineer Eladio Dieste (1917-2000) have been gaining international academic dissemination, one of whose main contributions in the realm of formal-structural conception within architecture and civil engineering reside in the iterative development of the structural typology of the gaussian vault shells in reinforced brickwork. However, there is not an established definition for this typology’s architectural geometry. Also, there is hardly any evidence of how such shells were designed. Therefore, the main objective, of this paper is to demonstrate the underlying geometric relationships in the discontinuous gaussian vault shells designed and built by Eladio Dieste in reinforced brickwork, the dominant typological variation within the object of study. This analysis was carried out by means of the parametric modeling and the polynomial regression of selected case studies from the primary sources, since such computational tools allow for the proper geometrical management of formally complex geometries. Resumo Apenas na última década, a obra do engenheiro Uruguaio Eladio Dieste (1917-2000) vem ganhando disseminação acadêmica internacional, sendo que uma de suas principais contribuições para a concepção formal-estrutural na arquitetura e engenharia civil foi o desenvolvimento iterativo da tipologia estrutural das abóbadas gaussianas, cascas de dupla-curvatura estruturadas em cerâmica armada. Entretanto, não há registros de uma definição estabelecida para a geometria arquitetônica destas tipologias estruturais. Tampouco existem evidências concretas acerca da concepção e desenvolvimento projetual destas estruturas. Por conseguinte, o objetivo deste artigo é evidenciar as relações geométricas subjacentes nas abóbadas guassianas descontínuas projetadas e construídas por Eladio Dieste em cerâmica armada, a variação dominante desta tipologia estrutural. Esta análise foi conduzida através da modelagem paramétrica e da regressão polinomial de estudos de caso selecionados a partir de fontes primárias originais, justamente por estas ferramentas computacionais permitirem o correto manejo de geometrias tidas como formalmente complexas. Resumo Os arquitetos modernos operam com pelo menos três noções fundamentais: espaço, tempo e movimento. No caso das passarelas, o desafio é resolver também os problemas de caminhabilidade em condicionantes topográficos específicos da cidade. Com base em documentos disponíveis no acervo da Biblioteca da FAUUSP, este estudo analisou as passarelas urbanas projetadas por Vilanova Artigas na década de 1970 para a cidade de São Paulo e ABC. O valor dessas passarelas na obra de Artigas reside não apenas no objeto projetado e construído, mas também em seu pensamento teórico sobre a circulação, a conexão, a cidade, as pessoas e a arquitetura. Foi criada uma tabela com os desenhos das passarelas e seus principais elementos de circulação. Este estudo contribui para a valorização do nosso patrimônio arquitetônico e urbano moderno.

Abstract Modern architects operate with at least three fundamental notions: space, time, and movement. In the case of the walkways, the challenge is also to solve the problems of walkability in specific topographic constraints of the city. Based on documents available in the library collection of the School of Architecture and Urbanism of the University of São Paulo, this study analyzed the urban walkways designed by Vilanova Artigas in the 1970s for the city of São Paulo and the region known as ABC Paulista. The value of these walkways in Artigas’ work lies not only in the designed and constructed object, but also in his theoretical thought about circulation, connection, city, people, and architecture. A table was created with the drawings of the walkways and their main circulation elements. This study contributes to the appreciation of our architectural and modern urban heritage.

Resumo O presente artigo tem como objetivo analisar como a modelagem paramétrica (MP) e as simulações computacionais podem auxiliar na avaliação do desempenho da iluminação natural e da insolação de edifícios nãoortogonais durante o processo de projeto. Com o propósito de comparar diferentes percentuais de transparência das janelas da fachada, assim como de diferentes tipos de proteção solar para avaliação da iluminação natural no interior de um edifício modelo e a incidência de radiação solar na fachada, foram realizados 6 experimentos no programa Rhinoceros com os plug-ins Grasshopper, Ladybug e Honeybee. O presente estudo centra-se apenas na análise da relação entre o formato das aberturas e das proteções solares sobre o desempenho da iluminação natural e da incidência dos raios solares. Os resultados demonstraram que a torção da edificação não contribui para melhores índices da iluminação natural no seu interior, fazendo com que determinadas áreas da fachada ficassem mais expostas à radiação solar, enquanto outras áreas fossem mais protegidas devido ao autossombreamento. A contribuição original deste artigo é a aplicação da modelagem e simulação paramétrica no processo de projeto e como meio de avaliação do desempenho de edifícios torcidos.

Abstract This paper aims to analyse how parametric modelling (PM) and computer simulations can assist in the evaluation of the performance of natural lighting and the insolation of non-orthogonal buildings during the design process. In order to compare different percentages of transparency of the facade windows, as well as different types of sun protection to assess natural lighting inside a model building, and the incidence of solar radiation on the facade, 6 experiments were performed in the Rhinoceros program with the Grasshopper, Ladybug and Honeybee plug-ins. The present study focuses solely on the analysis of the relationship between the shape of the openings and the solar protections on the performance of natural lighting and the incidence of sunlight. The results showed that the building's torsion does not contribute to better levels of natural lighting inside, making certain areas of the facade more exposed to solar radiation, while other areas were more protected due to self-shading. The original contribution of this paper is the application of parametric modelling and simulation in the design process and as a means to evaluate the performance of twisted buildings.
