Resumo A demanda por produção alimentícia traz consigo o aumento da geração de efluentes líquidos, que representa um grande problema para os frigoríficos, uma vez que tais efluentes contém alta carga orgânica, necessitando tratamento adequado para minimizar os impactos ambientais. Uma alternativa para resolver este problema é a aplicação da eletrocoagulação no tratamento de efluente anaeróbio de abatedouro e frigorífico de suínos, por ser uma técnica compacta e robusta. Foram analisadas as remoções de cor, DQO e turbidez, além do custo para o tratamento, sendo que para otimizar o processo utilizou-se a metodologia DCCR (delineamento composto central rotacional) com duas variáveis independentes: densidade de corrente elétrica e tempo, obtendo um fatorial completo 2² com 4 pontos axiais e 4 repetições no ponto central. As remoções mais expressivas foram de: 87%, 80% e 76%, para cor, DQO e turbidez, respectivamente, o menor custo obtido foi 0.12 US$.m-3. A análise estatística permitiu obter modelos matemáticos válidos para a remoção da cor e para o custo e, por meio da análise de desejabilidade, encontrou-se que para densidade de corrente de 8 mA.cm-2 e tempo de 20 minutos é possível maximizar a remoção da cor (84%) e minimizar o custo (0,21 US$.m-3).

Abstract The demand for food production brings with it the increase of effluent generation, which represents a great problem for slaughterhouses, since effluents contain higher organic load, requiring adequate treatment to decrease environmental impacts. This study examines an alternative to solve this problem: the application of electrocoagulation in the treatment of anaerobic slaughterhouse and packing plant effluents, as this promising technique is both compact and robust. The removal of color, COD and turbidity was analyzed, and the operational cost was calculated. To optimize the process, the CCRD (central composite rotatable design) methodology was used with two independent variables: electric current density and electrolysis time, obtaining a complete factorial of 2² with 4 axial points and 4 repetitions at the central point. The most expressive removals were: 87%, 80% and 76% for color, COD and turbidity, respectively, the lower operational cost obtained was 0.12 US$.m-3. The statistical analysis allowed obtaining valid mathematical models for color removal and cost and, through the analysis of desirability, it was found that for current density of 8 mA.cm-2 and time of 20 minutes it is possible to maximize color removal (84%) and minimize the cost (0.21 US$.m-3).

Resumo O objetivo desse trabalho foi avaliar a remoção de nitrogênio total kjeldahl (NTK) e fósforo total (P) através da eletrofloculação e otimizar as variáveis diferencial de potencial (ddp) e tempo de detenção hidráulica (TDH) em um reator batelada utilizando eletrodos de alumínio. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi o DCCR. A aplicação da técnica da eletrofloculação no tratamento de efluentes de matadouros e frigoríficos de suínos demonstrou ser eficiente no que tange a remoção de NTK e fósforo total obtendo-se eficiência máxima igual a 67,15% e 99%, respectivamente. O valor máximo de remoção de NTK foi encontrado no ensaio 12, onde as condições de tratamento foram de 30 minutos para o TDH e 20 volts para a ddp o que corresponde a 0,86 A de corrente elétrica e uma densidade de corrente igual a 17,2 mA cm-2. Para o P, o único ensaio que removeu abaixo de 99% foi o primeiro. Através das análises estatísticas, foi possível obter modelo matemático apenas para a remoção de NTK, entretanto o gráfico da superfície de resposta não apresentou uma faixa definida das melhores condições para as variáveis independentes, mas foi possível observar a tendência para melhor remoção, uma ampla faixa de ddp e valores acima de 30 minutos para o tempo de detenção.

Abstract This work evaluated the removal of total Kjeldahl nitrogen (TKN) and total phosphorus (P) through electrocoagulation and used aluminum electrodes to optimize the potential differential (pd) and hydraulic retention time (HRT) variables in a batch reactor. The experimental design used was Rotatable Central Composite Design (RCCD). The application of the electrocoagulation in the treatment of effluents from pig slaughterhouses and packing plants proved to be efficient in relation to the removal of TKN and total phosphorus, obtaining maximum efficiency equal to 67.15% and 99%, respectively. The maximum TKN removal value was found in Test 12, where treatment conditions were 30 minutes for HRT and 20 volts for pd, which corresponds to 0.86 A of electric current and a current density of 17.2 mA cm-2. For P, the only test that removed below 99% was the first. Through statistical analyses, it was only possible to obtain a mathematical model for TKN removal. While the response surface graph did not present a defined range of the best conditions for the independent variables, it was possible to observe the tendency for better removal, a wide range of pd and values over 30 minutes for retention time.

ABSTRACT The main contribution of this research is to optimize the operating conditions of an anaerobic reactor applied to the treatment of wastewater from cassava starch production. A 20-L anaerobic reactor was used, operating in a batch system, with temperature control. Temperature and inoculum total volatile solids (TVSi) were controlled for evaluation of effects on the removals of chemical oxygen demand (COD) and reactor total volatile solids (TVSr) by means of a Central Composite Rotational Design (CCRD). Twelve trials were analyzed simultaneously by the desirable function approach. The higher COD removal (96.82%) was obtained at 42 °C and 12.0% TVSi. The largest TVSr removal (69.31%) was registered at 45 °C and 10.0% TVSi. Equations representative of the process were obtained from the responses of variables, being statistically significant at a 90% confidence level. Based on the desirability function approach, we can conclude that an optimal operational condition for the anaerobic reactor is at 39.7 °C and 10.8% TVSi. The estimated COD and TVSr removal efficiencies under these operating conditions were 90.45% and 63.12%, respectively.

Este estudo teve como foco principal, aprofundar os conhecimentos sobre o desporto universitário em Universidades Portuguesas, bem como verificar e compreender as estratégias utilizadas, o planeamento das estratégias, os objectivos e estrutura organizacional dos serviços desportivos. Para tal pesquisa foi utilizado o paradigma qualitativo em estudo de caso, sendo uma metodologia interpretativa, descritiva e fenomenológica. Para a colecta de dados foi utilizado como instrumentos de pesquisa, uma entrevista com questionário semi-estruturado, observação de campo e análise de documentos. O estudo foi realizado nos departamentos desportivos de quatro universidades portuguesas. Através dos resultados obtidos, verificamos que as universidades tem como principal estratégia divulgar o nome da instituição e como principal objectivo, proporcionar o desporto para toda a comunidade académica.

The main focus of this study is to deepen the knowledge about college sports in Portuguese Universities, as well as to verify and understand the strategies used, the strategy planning, the objectives and the organizational structure of sport services. For this research, it was used the qualitative paradigm in case study, being it an interpretative, descriptive and phenomenological methodology. For the collection of data, it was used, as tools of research, an interview with a semi-structured questionnaire, field observation and document analysis. The study was performed in the sport departments of four Portuguese colleges. Through the results obtained, we concluded that the universities have, as their main strategy, to advertise the name of the institution and, as their main objective, to provide sports to the whole academic community.
