RESUMO O objetivo deste trabalho foi contribuir para o conhecimento da assembleia de besouros Scolytinae associada a plantios de eucalipto no sul do Estado do Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil e determinar espécies de importância à cultura. Amostras quinzenais foram retiradas de cinco fazendas da Fibria Celulose S/A, florestadas com Eucalyptus spp., no período de fevereiro de 2006 a dezembro de 2010, com armadilhas de interceptação de voo iscadas com etanol a 95%. Foram coletados 7.365 exemplares em 76 espécies, 18 gêneros e sete tribos. Corthylini, representada pelos gêneros Corthylus, Monarthum, Amphicranus, Metacorthylus, Microcorthylus e Tricolus e Xyleborini, por Ambrosiodmus, Dryocoetoides, Xyleborinus, Xyleborus e Xylosandrus foram as tribos mais representativas, com 42,1% e 31,6% espécies, respectivamente. Xylosandrus retusus e Xyleborinus saxeseni foram as espécies mais abundantes com 52,64% e 27,98% do total de espécimes amostradas, seguida por Corthylus antennarius, com 4,15% besouros coletados. Quinze espécies foram comuns a todos os locais, incluindo Xyleborus ferrugineus, considerada praga desta cultura, enquanto 25 espécies foram encontradas exclusivamente em apenas um local. A fazenda Cerro Alegre apresentou a maior riqueza de espécies e maior quantidade de espécies exclusivas; São Manoel demonstrou o maior índice de diversidade e equitabilidade; Aroeira teve a maior frequência de Scolytinae e São Francisco evidenciou a maior abundância e dominância. O estudo das assembleias de Scolytinae evidenciou o predomínio das espécies Xylosandrus retusus e Xyleborinus saxeseni em todos os ambientes estudados.

ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to contribute to the knowledge of the assembly of Scolytinae beetles associated with Eucalyptus plantations in southern Rio Grande do Sul state, Brazil, and determine species of importance to the culture. Biweekly samples were taken from five Fibria Celulose S/A farms forested with Eucalyptus spp., from February 2006 to December 2010, with flight intercept traps baited with 95% ethanol. We collected 7,365 specimens within 76 species, 18 genera, and seven tribes. Corthylini, represented by the genera Corthylus, Monarthum, Amphicranus, Metacorthylus, Microcorthylusand Tricolus, and Xyleborini, by Ambrosiodmus, Dryocoetoides, Xyleborinus, Xyleborus and Xylosandrus, were the most representative tribes, with 42.1% and 31.6% species, respectively. Xylosandrus retusus (Eichhoff) and Xyleborinus saxeseni (Ratzeburg) were the most abundant species, with 52.64% and 27.98% of all specimens sampled, followed by Corthylus antennarius Schedl with 4.15% beetles collected. Fifteen species were common to all sites, including Xyleborus ferrugineus (Fabricius), considered a potential pest to the culture, while 25 species were found exclusively in only one site. The farm Cerro Alegre had the highest species richness and larger number of exclusive species; São Manoel farm presented the highest diversity index and equitability; Aroeira farm had the highest frequency of Scolytinae and São Francisco farm showed the greatest abundance and dominance. The study of Scolytinae assemblages showed the predominance of Xylosandrus retusus and Xyleborinus saxeseni in all studied environmentals.

RESUMO O percevejo-bronzeado-do-eucalipto Thaumastocoris peregrinus é originário da Austrália e foi detectado no Brasil em 2008, causando danos em plantações de eucalipto. O percevejo suga a seiva, principalmente das folhas mais velhas, onde se formam pontos cloróticos que, posteriormente, tornam-se manchas bronzeadas. Em casos extremos pode ocorrer desfolhação. Os trabalhos sobre o monitoramento do inseto ainda são escassos perante os registros de danos em plantações de eucalipto. Diante disso, com o uso de diferentes cores de armadilhas adesivas, buscou-se determinar qual seria a melhor coloração para uso no monitoramento de Thaumastocoris peregrinus em plantios de eucalipto. As armadilhas de cor branca e amarela são eficientes para monitoramento de infestações no campo e devem ser instaladas próximo à copa das plantas e na borda dos talhões.

ABSTRACT The bronze bug Thaumastocoris peregrinus is native from Australia and has been detected in Brazil since 2008, causing damages in eucalypt plantations. This insect feeds on the phloem-sap, preferentially on the oldest leaves, that evolves into chlorotic spots and later in bronze spots. In high infestations, plant defoliation may occur. Although the feeding damage results in losses, the efforts for monitoring are still scarce. Therefore, by using adhesive traps colored differently we sought to determine which color would be the best for monitoring this insect in eucalypt plantations. White and yellow traps are efficient for field monitoring and should be installed in the top of the trees located in the edge of the plots.

O trabalho tem como objetivo analisar o comportamento espectral de folhas de Eucalyptus globulus atacadas em quatro diferentes níveis de severidade pelo fungo Mycosphaerella spp. em diferentes posições na copa da árvore, nas quatro estações climáticas, considerando duas regiões do espectro eletromagnético: visível e infravermelho próximo. Foram realizadas coletas de material vegetativo em todas as estações climáticas, em diferentes posições na árvore (base, meio e extrato superior da copa). Em laboratório, as folhas foram classificadas em quatro níveis de severidade (sadio, pouco, medianamente e muito atacado) e posteriormente efetuadas as medidas de reflectância espectral com auxílio de um espectrorradiômetro. O comportamento espectral das folhas de Eucalyptus globulus é característico de acordo com o nível de severidade da doença, diferindo dos demais principalmente em altos níveis de infecção por Mycosphaerella spp. e diferenciam-se principalmente de folhas sadias e de folhas pouco atacadas, em ambas as regiões do espectro eletromagnético, esse comportamento ocorre para as diferentes posições da copa e estações climáticas variando a quantidade de energia refletida. Conclui-se que a reflectância das folhas de Eucalyptus globulus atacadas por Mycosphaerella spp. difere de acordo com a posição na copa da árvore e a estação climática em que foram coletadas e níveis avançados da severidade da doença.

The study aims to analyze the spectral behavior of leaves of Eucalyptus globulus attacked in four different severity levels by Mycosphaerella spp. in different positions in the canopy of the tree in the four seasons, considering two regions of the electromagnetic spectrum: visible and near infrared. The plant material was collected in all seasons, in different positions in the tree (base, middle and top of the canopy extract). In the laboratory, leaves were classified into four levels of severity (healthy, little, medium and heavy fire) and then made measurements of spectral reflectance measured with a spectroradiometer. The spectral behavior of Eucalyptus globules leaves is characteristic according to the severity degree of the disease, differing primarily in the other high levels of infection by Mycosphaerella spp. and differ mainly of healthy leaves and leaves which are little attacked, in both regions of the electromagnetic spectrum, this behavior occurs for different treetop positions and climate seasons, varying the amount of reflected energy. It is concluded that the reflectance of the Eucalyptus globules leaves attacked by Mycosphaerella spp. differs according to the position in the tree crown and the weather station when they were collected and to the advanced levels of disease severity.

A busca por novos métodos de manejo e controle de formigas-cortadeiras vem sendo enfoque de inúmeros estudos pelo país, impulsionada por aspectos econômicos e ambientais. O estabelecimento de espécies resistentes ou menos preferidas ao corte pode contribuir substancialmente neste sentido. Logo, o objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar a preferência de corte entre as espécies Corymbia citriodora, Eucalyptus benthamii, Eucalyptus camaldulensis, Eucalyptus dunnii, Eucalyptus globulus e híbrido de Eucalyptus urophylla X Eucalyptus grandis por Acromyrmex ambiguus e Acromyrmex crassispinus em laboratório. Para isso, folhas foram ofertadas, simultaneamente, para seis colônias de cada espécie em bioensaios com chance de escolha. No entanto, nos testes sem chance de escolha, apenas as espécies menos preferidas pelo teste anterior foram utilizadas. Para Acromyrmex crassispinus, as espécies Eucalyptus camaldulensis e híbrido de Eucalyptus urophylla X Eucalyptus grandis foram mais cortadas, enquanto que as espécies Corymbia citriodora, Eucalyptus dunnii e Eucalyptus globulus foram menos preferidas ao corte. Acromyrmex ambiguus apresentou padrão similar de preferência, adicionando-se Eucalyptus benthamii entre as mais preferidas e excluindo-se Eucalyptus dunnii das menos preferidas.

The search for new leafcutter ant management and control methods have been the aim of several studies over the country, propelled by economic and environmental aspects. The establishment of resistant or less preferred species for the cut can contribute substantially in this subject. This way, the objective of this study was to evaluate the cutting preference between the species Corymbia citriodora, Eucalyptus benthamii, Eucalyptus camaldulensis, Eucalyptus dunnii, Eucalyptus globulus and híbrido de Eucalyptus urophylla X Eucalyptus grandis by Acromyrmex ambiguus and Acromyrmex crassispinus in laboratory. Therefore, leafs were offered simultaneously to six colonies of each species in bioassays with chance to choose. However, in the tests without chance to choose, only the least preferred species in the previous test were utilized. For Acromyrmex crassispinus, the species Eucalyptus camaldulensis and híbrido de Eucalyptus urophylla X Eucalyptus grandis were the most cutted, besides Corymbia citriodora, Eucalyptus dunni and Eucalyptus globules were less preferred. Acromyrmex ambiguus showed similar preference pattern, adding Eucalyptus benthamii among the most preferred one and excluding Eucalyptus dunnii from the least preferred.

RESUMO A mancha foliar (mancha de micosferela) causada por Teratosphaeria nubilosa tem acarretado prejuízos em plantios de eucalipto na região Sul e Sudeste do Brasil. A necessidade de avaliar a doença no campo e os danos causados pela mesma, bem como a busca de formas eficientes de controle e a utilização de germoplasma, leva à necessidade em ter uma escala visual para quantificação da severidade da doença. O objetivo deste trabalho foi elaborar uma escala diagramática com folhas jovens e com folhas adultas de Eucalyptus globulus, para avaliação de mancha de micosferela. Para tal, as folhas coletadas em campo foram escaneadas para digitalização da imagem. Determinou-se a área lesionada, área foliar sadia e área total em escala RGB (Red, Green, Blue). Posteriormente, determinaram-se os níveis de severidade em função da distribuição da amostra, sendo sete níveis para folhas jovens e seis para folhas adultas. Para o teste de acuidade visual e validação da escala, as folhas foram submetidas à avaliação da severidade, com e sem escala. Com a adoção das escalas propostas, a totalidade dos avaliadores apresentou boa acurácia, tanto para folhas jovens como para adultas com R2=0,98 e R2=0,80, respectivamente. A importância da elaboração de escalas diagramáticas para quantificar a severidade de mancha em eucalipto deve-se ao fato de permitir a quantificação dos sintomas de forma acurada e precisa.

ABSTRACT The leaf spot (Mycosphaerella leaf disease = MLD) caused by Teratosphaeria nubilosa has caused damage in eucalypt plantations in southern and southeastern Brazil. The need to assess the disease in the field to evaluate of this damage, efficiency control, evaluation of germplasm induces to the necessity of having a visual scale for evaluation of disease. The objective was to develop a diagrammatic scale for young leaves and one for adult leaves of Eucalyptus globules for MLD. To do so, the leaves collected in the field were scanned for image analysis. The damaged area, the healthy leaf area and the external area of the same scale RGB (Red, Green, Blue) were determined. Subsequently, it was determinate the levels of severity depending on the sample distribution with seven levels for young leaves and six for adult leaves. For the visual acuity test and validate the scale, the leaves were evaluated for severity, with and without scale. With this proposed scales, the assessors showed good accuracy both for young and adult leaves with R2=0,98 and R2=0,80, respectively. The importance of the development of diagrammatic scales for assessing MLD in eucalyptus must to the fact that allows quantification of the symptoms accurately and precisely.

Muitos patógenos, principalmente fungos, ocorrem em várias espécies de eucalipto, desde a fase de viveiro até os plantios adultos. Dentre as doenças fúngicas, destaca-se a mancha de micosferela, considerada uma das principais doenças, e o Eucalyptus globulus, uma das espécies mais suscetíveis. Esta doença é causada por várias espécies pertencentes aos gêneros Teratosphaeria e Mycosphaerella, sendo T. nubilosa de maior importância. O objetivo do presente estudo foi verificar a presença do fungo T.nubilosa em materiais coletados nos seguintes locais: Bagé-RS, Pedras Altas-RS, Botucatu-SP, Jacareí- SP e Itapeva-SP. Por meio de isolamentos a partir de folhas de E. globulus apresentando mancha de micosferela, foi possível a obtenção de isolados do fungo. A observação quanto ao padrão de germinação dos ascósporos, o seu crescimento micelial, e também por meio de PCR com primers da região genômica ITS1 e ITS4 e sequenciamento, e submissão ao GenBank, foi possível a determinação do gênero e da espécie do patógeno como T. nubilosa. Nos cinco locais estudados foi confirmada a presença deste agente causal de mancha de micosferela em plantios de E. globulus nas regiões Sul e Sudeste do Brasil.

A large number of pathogens, especially fungi affect several eucalypt species from the nursery phase to the adult crops. Among fungal diseases, Mycosphaerella leaf disease is considered one of the main conditions, to which Eucalyptus globulus, is one of the most susceptible species. This disease is caused by several species into the genera Teratosphaeria and Mycosphaerella, and Teratosphaeria nubilosa is the most importance species. The aim of the present study was to verify the presence of T. nubilosa in materials collected in: Bagé-RS, Pedras Altas-RS, Botucatu-SP, Jacareí-SP and Itapeva-SP. By means of isolations from E. globulus leaves presenting cha racter istic symptoms of T. nubilosa, isolates of the fungus could be observed as to ascospore germination pattern and mycelial growth. The pathogen specie was determined by PCR using primers ITS1 and ITS4 and DNA sequencing, and submission to GenBank. From materials collected in all five studied places, confirming the presence of the agent of Mycosphaerella leaf disease in some of E. globulus crops in the South and Southeast regions of Brazil.

Eucalyptus are hosts of several psyllid species. Among them, Ctenarytaina eucalypti (Maskell) is considered the most harmful to Eucalyptus globulus plantations. In Brazil, this pest has been observed in the state of Parana, and in 2005, it was found causing damage to plantations of E. globulus in Arroio Grande and Piratini cities, RS. The monophagous endoparasitoid Psyllaephagus pilosus Noyes was also observed parasitizing nymphs of C. eucalypti. This parasitoid has been shown to be highly efficient in controlling this psyllid species, making unnecessary the use of any other control method.

Euetheola humilis (Burmeister) é um escarabeídeo praga das culturas do arroz, cana-de-açucar e milho, que ataca as cultura na fase larval e na adulta. A ocorrência de E. humilis foi observada em área florestada com Eucalyptus saligna Smith, pertencente a Votorantim Celulose & Papel (Fazenda Aroeira), no município de Candiota, RS. Plantas de aproximadamente 1m de altura foram danificadas por insetos adultos de E. humilis na região próxima ao colo, desfiando seu córtex, levando algumas à morte. Verificou-se ataque em torno de 10% das plantas de eucalipto, em uma área de aproximadamente 30 ha.

Euetheola humilis (Burmeister) is a scarabaeid pest of rice, sugarcane and corn cultures, that attacks the crops during both larval and adult phase. The occurrence of E. humilis was observed in a forest area with Eucalyptus saligna Smith, from Votorantim Celulose & Papel (Fazenda Aroeira), in the Municipality of Candiota, Rio Grande do Sul State. Plants approximately 1m high were damaged by E. humilis adult insects near the stem base, what unraveled its cortex and led some of them to death. The attack was verified in about 10% of the eucalypts plants, in an area of approximately 30 ha.
