RESUMO Esta pesquisa investiga o desempenho de estratégias de carteiras de baixa volatilidade, representando aversão ao risco, após a crise financeira mundial/2008. A partir do índice futuro do S&P 500, índice dólar futuro, título público de longo prazo (10 anos) do governo americano e índice ouro futuro, foram construídas cinco carteiras de investimento com o critério de distribuição dos pesos definidos pelo inverso do desvio-padrão dos ativos, logaritmo natural e exponencial desses valores, como também o portfólio de mínima variância e o portfólio tangente. Janelas móveis de 12 meses e 30 meses para o cômputo do desvio-padrão, assim como a estimação da volatilidade condicional foram testadas no desenho das estratégias. Para fins de avaliação, foram obtidos o retorno médio das carteiras, risco mensurado pelo desvio-padrão, índice de Sharpe e o retorno ajustado ao risco. Os resultados apontaram que, de forma conjunta, carteiras baseadas no risco usando janela móvel de 12 meses ou volatilidade condicional foram superiores ao portfólio tangente e que o portfólio de mínima variância foi competitivo frente a outras alternativas. A principal contribuição foi que no período pós-crise a aversão ao risco foi relevante para o desempenho de carteiras.

ABSTRACT The aim of this paper is to investigate the performance of low-volatility portfolio strategies representing risk aversion after the 2008 global financial crisis. Five investment portfolios were built by taking into consideration the weight distribution criteria defined by the inverse of the standard deviation of assets, the natural logarithm and exponential of these values, as well as the minimum variance and tangent portfolios, based on the S&P 500 futures index, dollar futures index, US government long-term bond (10-year Treasury Bond) and gold futures. The design of the strategies used both twelve- and thirty-month rolling windows for the standard deviation and conditional volatility estimates. Mean return of portfolio, risk through standard deviation, Sharpe index, and risk-adjusted return were calculated for evaluation purposes. Results have evidenced that, together, risk-based portfolios using 12-month rolling window or conditional volatility were superior to the tangent portfolio, as well as that the minimum variance portfolio was competitive to other alternatives. The main contribution of the current study lies in the fact that risk aversion was relevant to portfolios’ performance in the post-crisis period.

ABSTRACT This study uses Foucault’s theory of subjectivity for a deeper understanding of how anti-fans react to the insertion of political identities in the narratives of media products. The research considers the growing insertion of representativeness in the entertainment industry and the fact that fan communities are conducive to disagreements and resistance. The study assessed how Star Wars anti-fans reacted to the introduction of characters representative of political identities in the new phase of the saga. Foucault’s archeogenealogical method was used to analyze messages posted on the franchise’s biggest fan forum from 2014 to 2020. Results pointed to two moral agencies descriptive of intolerance and amorality, which converge to a subject-form searching for “normality.” These findings have indicated a segregation behavior, which perpetuates a given social status quo and mobilizes desires to impose it, a fact that features what Foucault defined as fascist life.

Resumo Objetivo O objetivo do presente estudo é investigar como os fãs se comportam em relação a uma maior introdução de identidades políticas na cultura pop. Referencial teórico A ideia do consumo como instrumento de construção da identidade, as crescentes discussões sobre identidades políticas e o surgimento da indústria do entretenimento como arena de resistência do consumidor estão associadas entre si. Metodologia A arqueogenealogia foucaultiana foi aplicada ao fórum online chamado TheForce.net. Resultados A militância e a afinidade foram identificadas como agências morais dos consumidores. Apesar de sua singularidade, elas demonstram compromisso com a liberdade e indicam como os fãs veem a representatividade das identidades políticas como uma luta contínua contra as forças ideológicas dominantes. Implicações práticas e sociais da pesquisa A análise e interpretação foucaultianas permitem discutir a articulação ética produzida pelos fãs como um compromisso social. É uma resposta cultural dos fãs à recente inserção da representatividade na indústria do entretenimento. Assim, a presente pesquisa fornece os fundamentos para pensar sobre as aplicações e consolidação potencial das produções éticas nas investigações da teoria da cultura do consumidor (CCT, na sigla em inglês). Contribuições A teoria de Foucault sobre a constituição do sujeito moral foi adotada para analisar o consumo como uma prática alinhada à crescente demanda por representatividade na indústria do entretenimento.

Abstract Purpose The aim of the current study is to investigate how fans behave towards the greater introduction of political identities in pop culture. Theoretical framework The idea of consumption as an identity-building instrument, the growing discussions on political identities and the emergence of the entertainment industry as an arena for consumer resistance are associated with each other. Design/methodology/approach Foucauldian archeogenealogy was applied to the online forum called TheForce.net. Findings Militancy and sympathy were identified as moral agencies of consumers. Despite their uniqueness, they show commitment to freedom and indicate how fans see the representativeness of political identities as a continuous struggle vis-à-vis dominant ideological forces. Practical & social implications of research Foucauldian analysis and interpretation allow us to discuss the ethical articulation produced by fans as a social commitment. This is a fan culture response to the recent inclusion of representativeness in the entertainment industry. Thus, the current research provides the basis to think about the applications and potential consolidation of ethical productions in CCT investigations. Originality/Value Foucault’s theory about the constitution of the moral subject was adopted here to analyze consumption as a practice aligned to the growing demand for representativeness in the entertainment industry.

RESUMO O feijão-caupi é uma cultura de grande relevância socioeconômica para as populações do Norte e Nordeste do país, e seu baixo rendimento está comumente relacionado a estresses ambientais, em especial ao hídrico. O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar o índice de estresse hídrico do feijão-caupi da cultivar BR3 -Tracuateua, submetido a diferentes níveis de irrigação (100, 50, 25 e 0% da ETc) em três estádios fenológicos reprodutivos (R7, R8 e R9), em Castanhal-PA, Brasil. O desenho experimental foi em blocos casualizados, com seis repetições e quatro tratamentos correspondentes a 100, 50, 25 e 0% de reposição diária da evapotranspiração da cultura, durante o período reprodutivo, por meio de um sistema de irrigação. As leituras de temperatura da superfície foram feitas com termômetro infravermelho, durante a fase reprodutiva. As menores diferenças absolutas de temperatura entre o dossel e o ar ocorreram nas fases R7 e R8. Os maiores valores de índice de estresse hídrico (IEHD) foram verificados quando a planta estava sob déficit hídrico, independente dos estádios fenológicos. O efeito do déficit hídrico proporcionou redução na condutância estomática de 58,82% (R7), 83,57% (R8) e 84,87% (R9), transpiração foliar de 45,97% (R7), 64,21% (R8) e 65,90% (R9) e na taxa fotossintética líquida de 40,75% (R7), 66,92% (R8) e 74% (R9). O IEHD variou com a disponibilidade de água, apresentando o maior valor (0,75) no tratamento sem irrigação, no estádio R8. O IEHD se mostrou como bom indicador do status hídrico da planta.

ABSTRACT Cowpea is a crop of great socioeconomic relevance for the populations of the North and Northeast of the country, and its low yield is commonly related to environmental stresses, especially water. The objective of this study was to evaluate the water stress index of cowpea, cultivar BR3 - Tracuateua, subjected to different irrigation levels (100, 50, 25 and 0% of ETc) in three reproductive phenological stages (R7, R8 and R9) in Castanhal-PA, Brazil. The experimental design was in randomized blocks, with six replications and four treatments corresponding to 100, 50, 25 and 0% of daily replacement of crop evapotranspiration, during the reproductive period, through an irrigation system. The surface temperature readings were made with infrared thermometer, during the reproductive stage. The smallest absolute temperature differences between canopy and air occurred in stages R7 and R8. The highest values of water stress index (CWSI) were verified when the plant was under water deficit, regardless of phenological stages. The effect of water deficit caused reductions in stomatal conductance of 58.82% (R7), 83.57% (R8) and 84.87% (R9), in leaf transpiration of 45.97% (R7), 64.21% (R8) and 65.90% (R9) and in the net photosynthetic rate of 40.75% (R7), 66.92% (R8) and 74% (R9). The CWSI varied with the availability of water, showing the highest value (0.75) in the treatment without irrigation, in the R8 stage. The CWSI proved to be a good indicator of the water status of the plant.

Resumo Objetivo O objetivo desta pesquisa é analisar se as estratégias da Visão Baseada em Recursos Naturais (NRBV) influenciam o desempenho financeiro, representado pelo valor de mercado no Índice de Sustentabilidade Empresarial (ISE) da Bolsa de Valores brasileira (B3). Referencial teórico A NRBV prevê três estratégias verdes para alcançar uma vantagem competitiva sustentável: prevenção da poluição, gestão de produtos e desenvolvimento sustentável. Muitos estudos testaram uma ou duas dessas estratégias. Testamos se todas as três estratégias estão relacionadas ao desempenho financeiro das empresas do ISE. Metodologia Coletamos cinco anos de dados de 18 empresas que compõem o ISE e empregamos a análise de dados em painel neste estudo longitudinal. Resultados Todas as três estratégias da NRBV estão relacionadas ao valor de mercado das empresas de diferentes formas. Os resultados divergem da literatura atual, pois encontramos ligações positivas e negativas entre estratégias ambientais e desempenho financeiro. Implicações práticas e sociais da pesquisa Este estudo contribui com resultados empíricos da B3 para analisar o ISE utilizando a abordagem NRBV como fundamentação teórica. Isso sugere que nem todas as iniciativas ambientais aumentam o valor de mercado das empresas, pois algumas ações podem acabar levando ao resultado oposto. Os investidores e a sociedade em geral têm o direito de saber como as empresas implementam estratégias sustentáveis que vão além das exigidas por lei. Contribuições A grande contribuição deste estudo é abordar todas as três estratégias da NRBV para investigar se vale a pena ser verde em termos de valor de mercado, analisando as organizações brasileiras sustentáveis que compõem o ISE.

Abstract Purpose The aim of this research is to analyze whether natural resource-based view (NRBV) strategies lead to financial performance, represented by market value in the Brazilian stock exchange (B3) Corporate Sustainability Index (ISE). Theoretical framework The NRBV foresees three green strategies to achieve sustainable competitive advantage: pollution prevention, product stewardship and sustainable development. Many studies have tested one or two of those strategies. We tested if all three strategies are related to the financial performance of companies in the ISE index. Design/methodology/approach We collected five years of data from 18 companies that compose the ISE index and employed panel data analysis in this longitudinal study. Findings All three strategies of the NRBV are related to the companies’ market value in different ways. The results diverge from the current literature because we found positive and negative links between environmental strategies and financial performance. Practical & social implications of research This study contributes with empirical results from the B3 to analyze the ISE index using the NRBV approach as a theoretical basis. It suggests that not all environmental initiatives increase companies’ market value, as some actions may end up achieving the opposite outcome. Investors and society, in general, are entitled to know how companies implement sustainable strategies that go beyond those required by law. Originality/value The major contribution of this study is it addresses all three NRBV strategies to investigate if it pays to be green in terms of market value, by analyzing the Brazilian sustainable organizations that compose the ISE index.

O objetivo deste estudo foi estimar a capacidade funcional e analisar a associação com as características sociodemográficas, hábitos de vida, morbidade, multimorbidade e quedas entre mulheres idosas residentes em uma periferia do município de São Paulo. Foi realizado um estudo transversal de amostragem aleatória simples cuja população estudada foi de 174 mulheres (≥60 anos de idade) cadastradas e uma Unidade Básica de Saúde – (UBS) Jardim Rincão do município de São Paulo foram selecionadas de maneira aleatória no período de agosto a dezembro de 2015. Foram executadas estatísticas descritivas e inferenciais a partir de variáveis sociodemográficas, hábitos de vida, doença crônica, atividade física e autoavaliação da capacidade funcional. Os resultados evidenciam elevada prevalência de capacidade funcional insuficiente na população estudada 81,0%. Após análise de regressão logística bruta e ajustada, não foram observadas diferenças estatísticas nas variáveis analisadas pgt;0,05. Assim, o estudo revelou que variáveis sociodemográficas, hábitos de vida, doenças crônicas não possuem efeito sobre a capacidade funcional de idosas residentes de uma periferia. Portanto, ações de atenção integral à saúde das idosas precisam ser efetivadas, aliando o incentivo à pesquisa em áreas de vulnerabilidade social e às ações planejadas para melhorar as condições incapacitantes.

Objective of this study was to estimate functional capacity and analyze the association with sociodemographic characteristics, lifestyle habits, morbidity, multimorbidity and falls among elderly women living in a periphery of the city of São Paulo. A cross-sectional study of simple random sampling was carried out, whose study population consisted of 174 women (≥60 years of age) registered and a Unidade Básica de Saúde - (UBS) Jardim Rincão, city of São Paulo, Brazil, were randomly selected in the period of August to December 2015. Descriptive and inferential statistics were performed based on sociodemographic variables, life habits, chronic disease, physical activity and self-assessment of functional capacity. The results show a high prevalence of insufficient functional capacity in the population studied, 81.0%. After crude and adjusted logistic regression analysis, no statistical differences were observed in the analyzed variables pgt;0.05. Thus, the study revealed that sociodemographic variables, life habits, chronic diseases have no effect on the functional capacity of elderly women living in a periphery. Therefore, comprehensive health care actions for the elderly need to be carried out, combining incentives for research in areas of social vulnerability and actions planned to improve disabling conditions.

El objetivo de este estudio fue estimar la capacidad funcional y analizar la asociación con características sociodemográficas, hábitos de vida, morbilidad, multimorbilidad y caídas entre ancianas residentes en una periferia de la ciudad de São Paulo. Se realizó un estudio transversal de muestreo aleatorio simple, cuya población de estudio estuvo constituida por 174 mujeres (≥60 años) registradas y una Unidade Básica de Saúde - (UBS) Jardim Rincão, ciudad de São Paulo, Brasil, fueron seleccionadas aleatoriamente seleccionados en el período de agosto a diciembre de 2015. Se realizó estadística descriptiva e inferencial a partir de variables sociodemográficas, hábitos de vida, enfermedad crónica, actividad física y autoevaluación de la capacidad funcional. Los resultados muestran una alta prevalencia de capacidad funcional insuficiente en la población estudiada, 81,0%. Después del análisis de regresión logística cruda y ajustada, no se observaron diferencias estadísticas en las variables analizadas pgt;0,05. Así, el estudio reveló que las variables sociodemográficas, los hábitos de vida, las enfermedades crónicas no tienen efecto sobre la capacidad funcional de las ancianas que viven en la periferia. Por lo tanto, es necesario realizar acciones de atención integral a la salud de las personas mayores, combinando incentivos a la investigación en áreas de vulnerabilidad social y acciones planificadas para mejorar las condiciones de discapacidad.

ABSTRACT Objective: Fibrous dysplasia (FD) is a rare bone disorder that can involve any part of the skeleton, leading to bone pain, deformities, and fractures. Treatment with intravenous bisphosphonates has been used with variable results. Therefore, we aimed to evaluate the effects of zoledronic acid (ZA) therapy in patients with monostotic or polyostotic FD. Subjects and methods: The medical records of thirteen patients with FD evaluated between 2015 and 2020 were retrospectively analyzed. In the subgroup of patients treated with ZA (n = 7), data on pain relief, changes in bone turnover markers (BTMs), and adverse events following ZA infusions were retrieved. Moreover, radiological changes in response to treatment were recorded in patients who underwent radiological follow-up. Results: Of the patients, 5 (38%) presented with monostotic whereas 8 (62%) had polyostotic FD. Bone pain was a common finding (69%), and most patients (62%) exhibited elevated baseline BTMs. Partial or complete pain relief was reported in 6 of 7 patients treated with ZA. BTMs, especially C-telopeptide of type I collagen (CTX), significantly decreased after therapy (change rate: −61.8% [IQR −71, −60%]), and median CTX levels were significantly lower than at baseline (0.296 ng/mL [0.216, 0.298] vs. 0.742 ng/mL [0.549, 0.907], respectively; P = 0.04). No radiological improvement was observed in cases with radiological follow-up (n = 3). No serious adverse effects of ZA were reported. Conclusion: ZA treatment was well tolerated and provided beneficial effects in relieving bone pain and reducing BTMs, especially CTX. Our data reinforce the role of ZA in the treatment of FD-related bone pain.

The fungal Hemileia vastatrix is the causal agent of coffee leaf rust, one of the worst and devastating disease in coffee cultures worldwide. As a result of our research on natural products for the development of novel agrochemicals, we found that the hexane extract from leaves of the Brazilian medicinal plant Garcinia gardneriana, at 500 μg mL-1, inhibited in 98% the germination of H. vastatrix urediniospores. This extract showed no phytotoxicity when tested for seed germination and seedling growth inhibitory activity using sensible plant species. Also, the hexane extract from leaves was tested for anti-acetylcholinesterase activity, which constitutes a mechanism of action of major commercial insecticides used in agriculture, and showed low activity even at concentrations about two times higher than the half maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) found in the antifungal assays. Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis showed that the hexane extract is constituted mainly by the pentacyclic triterpene lupeol, together with a series of sesquiterpenes as minor components. This is the first report on the investigation of antifungal, phytotoxic and acetylcholinesterase activities of extracts from leaves of G. gardneriana. These findings indicate that G. gardneriana may constitute a promising source of natural products for controlling the coffee leaf rust fungus.

Abstract This work aimed to evaluate the in vitro bioaccessibility of α-carotene, β-carotene, lycopene and phenolic compounds and antioxidant capacity in the pequi almond, pulp and peel flours. Furthermore, it is relevant to interrelate these results with water activity (aw), Total Titratable Acidity (TTA), pH and color parameters through principal component analysis. For this, fruits were collected in the state of Mato Grosso (MT), and they were sanitized, peeled, pulped and the almonds removed. Quantification of total and bioaccessible concentrations of carotenoids and phenolic compounds and antioxidant capacity were performed by UV-Visible spectrophotometry. In vitro bioaccessibility tests were performed using a three-step: salivary; gastric; and intestinal digestions. The highest concentrations of α-carotene (63.81 µg/g), β-carotene (59.83 µg/g) and lycopene (40.66 µg/g) were obtained for pequi pulp flour. However, the highest percentages of bioaccessibility of α-carotene (59.69%), β-carotene (96.14%) and lycopene (44.13%) were found in almond flour. The concentrations of total phenolic compounds were: 210.50; 402.21; and 9475.69 mg GAE/100g, for pequi almond, pulp and peel flour, respectively. The highest percentage of bioaccessibility (86.68%) was found in pulp flour. Pequi peel flour showed the highest antioxidant capacity (EC50) 45.71 g/g of DPPH. The highest results for L* (42.19), a* (4.17), b* (8.39) and TTA (17.83 mL NaOH/100 g) were verified in the pulp flour; whereas the lowest pH (3.34) was verified in the peel flour. Principal component analysis indicated that pH and TTA can influence the in vitro bioaccessibility of phenolic compounds, carotenoids and the antioxidant capacity. The results obtained suggested that pequi flours presented bioaccessible bioactive compounds and good antioxidant capacity and may be a technological alternative in the enrichment of food products.

Resumo Este trabalho objetivou avaliar a bioacessibilidade in vitro de α-caroteno, β-caroteno, licopeno e de compostos fenólicos, e a capacidade antioxidante em farinhas de amêndoa, polpa e casca do fruto pequi. Além disso, inter-relacionar estes resultados com a atividade de água, acidez e parâmetros de cor, por meio da análise de componentes principais. Os frutos foram coletados no estado de Mato Grosso, sendo higienizados, descascados, despolpados e retiradas as amêndoas. A quantificação das concentrações totais e bioacessíveis dos carotenoides e compostos fenólicos e a capacidade antioxidante foram feitas por espectrofotometria UV-Visível. Os ensaios de bioacessibilidade in vitro foram feitos por meio de três etapas: digestão salivar, gástrica e intestinal. As maiores concentrações de α-caroteno (63,81 µg/g), β-caroteno (59,83 µg/g) e licopeno (40,66 µg/g) foram obtidas para farinha da polpa do pequi. Porém, as maiores porcentagens de bioacessibilidade de α-caroteno (59,69%), β-caroteno (96,14%) e licopeno (44,13%) foram encontradas na farinha da amêndoa. Os teores de compostos fenólicos totais foram: 210,50, 402,21 e 9475,69 mg GAE/100g, para as farinhas de amêndoa, polpa e casca, respectivamente, sendo a maior porcentagem de bioacessibilidade (86,68%) encontrada na farinha da polpa. A farinha da casca do pequi apresentou maior capacidade antioxidante (EC50) 45,71 g/g de DPPH. Os maiores resultados de L* (42,19), a* (4,17), b* (8,39) e acidez titulável (17,83 mL NaOH/100 g) foram verificados na farinha da polpa e o menor pH (3,34), na farinha da casca. A análise de componentes principais indicou que o pH e a acidez titulável podem influenciar na bioacessibilidade de compostos fenólicos e carotenoides, e na capacidade antioxidante. Os resultados sugerem que as farinhas do pequi apresentam compostos bioativos bioacessíveis e boa capacidade antioxidante, e podem ser uma alternativa tecnológica no enriquecimento de produtos alimentícios.

Abstract Wounds treated with TiO2 nanoparticles (TiO2-NPs) show an improvement in healing time. However, little is known about the parameters that can contribute to this result. On the other hand, the treatment of wounds with polyphenols is widely known. These compounds are found in the peel of Annona crassiflora fruit and have antioxidant, analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties. In this study, we evaluated the healing effect of TiO2 nanocrystals (TiO2-NCs), polyphenolic fractions obtained from ethanolic extract of A. crassiflora fruit peel (PFAC) and mix (PFAC + TiO2-NCs) on the parameters of wound closure, inflammation, collagen deposition, metalloproteinase activity (MMPs) and angiogenesis. TiO2-NCs and PFAC have activity for wound healing, showed anti-inflammatory action and a shorter wound closure time. These treatments also contributed to increased collagen deposition, while only treatment with TiO2-NCs increased MMP-2 activity, parameters essential for the migration of keratinocytes and for complete restoration of the injured tissue. The combination of PFAC + TiO2-NCs reduced the effectiveness of individual treatments by intensifying the inflammatory process, in addition to delaying wound closure. We conclude that the interaction between the hydroxyl groups of PFAC polyphenols with TiO2-NCs may have contributed to difference in the healing activity of skin wounds.

RESUMO Objetivo: Avaliar a qualidade das informações sobre mortalidade por neoplasias no âmbito do Sistema de Informação sobre Mortalidade. Métodos: Estudo descritivo observacional com avaliação da qualidade do Sistema de Informação sobre Mortalidade, com desfecho referente aos dados de óbitos por neoplasias ocorridos entre os anos de 2009 e 2019 na população brasileira (≥15 anos). A qualidade da informação (QI) foi mensurada para o Brasil e para as Unidades Federativas por meio das dimensões: cobertura, especificidade e completude dos dados. Resultados: A qualidade da dimensão cobertura variou entre “boa” e “excelente” nas abrangências nacional e estadual. A dimensão especificidade foi classificada como inadequada predominantemente nos Estados das Regiões Norte e Nordeste. A proporção de causas mal definidas foi classificada como de “baixa” qualidade na maioria das unidades de análise ao longo da série. A completude dos dados variou de acordo com o indicador utilizado, os indicadores sexo e idade mostraram-se “excelentes” para todo o período e unidades de análise, a escolaridade apresentou variação de qualidade tanto nas unidades como nos períodos e o estado civil apresentou melhoria da qualidade de seu registro ao longo do período, assim como o indicador raça/cor. Conclusões: A qualidade dos dados de mortalidade por neoplasias na população brasileira (≥15 anos) é, em sua maioria, adequada, mas há lacunas importantes que merecem ser preenchidas, pois a ampliação da QI busca dar visibilidade à condição de saúde da população brasileira, bem como propor ações públicas para sua melhoria.

ABSTRACT Objective To assess the quality of information about mortality from neoplasm within the Mortality Information System. Methods: Descriptive observational study evaluating the quality of the Mortality Information System, with an outcome referring to data on deaths from neoplasm between 2009 and 2019 in the Brazilian population (≥15 years). Information Quality (IQ) was measured through coverage, specificity and completeness of data, at national and state level. Results: The quality of the coverage dimension ranged from “good” to “excellent” in the national and state coverages. Specificity was classified as inadequate mainly in the states of the North and Northeast regions. The proportion of ill-defined causes was classified as “poor” quality in most units of analysis throughout the series. Data completeness varied according to indicator. Gender and age indicators were proven “excellent” for the entire period and units of analysis, while educational level varied in quality across units and periods, marital status had its quality improved over the period, as well as ethnicity/skin color. Conclusions: The quality of data on mortality from neoplasm in the Brazilian population (≥15 years) is mostly adequate, but there are important gaps to be filled, as the expansion of IQ seeks to give visibility to the health condition of the Brazilian population and to propose public actions for its improvement.
