ABSTRACT A new combination and a new status, Pachira manausensis, is here proposed. After making field observations and analyzing type and herbarium specimens, we realized that P. aquatica var. manausensis should be treated as a species due to many morphological and distribution differences compared to the typical variety. We provide detailed descriptions and a distribution map, table, key, and plate to distinguish both species using morphological characteristics. Typifications and nomenclatural notes for related names were performed.

ABSTRACT Eriotheca gracilipes concept is re-circumscribed according to the shape and texture of the leaflets, diameter of the petiole, calyx color, seed striation and geographic distribution. In addition, a new species (Eriotheca uniflora) and a new combination (Eriotheca crenulata) are proposed here. Descriptions, identification key, taxonomic comments, geographic distribution, phenology and conservation status, images of diagnostic characteristics and a table with information about these features are provided for the three species.

Resumo Hibiscus é um dos maiores gêneros de Malvaceae, com aproximadamente 300 espécies amplamente distribuídas no mundo. No Brasil, ocorrem 33 espécies nativas (25 endêmicas), principalmente no Cerrado. Diante da carência de estudos em biodiversidade e taxonomia para o gênero em território nacional, o objetivo foi realizar um estudo reunindo informações das espécies autóctones da região sudeste do Brasil, fornecendo chave de identificação, descrições, pranchas fotográficas e mapas de distribuição geográfica. Foram realizados levantamentos bibliográficos nos principais bancos de dados, análise de coleções dos herbários, amostragem in loco, estudo morfológico e tratamento taxonômico das espécies. São propostas duas sinonimizações e a inclusão de uma espécie na lista brasileira, reconhecendo 14 espécies nativas para a região sudeste, seis endêmicas. Os hibiscos do Sudeste foram caracterizados como subarbustos a arbustos de até três metros. As espécies habitam áreas paludosas da Mata Atlântica, especialmente nas restinga e nas diversas fitofisionomias de Cerrado.

Abstract Hibiscus is one of the largest genus of Malvaceae, with approximately 300 species widely spreaded in the world. In Brazil there are 33 native species (25 endemic), mainly in Cerrado. In view of the lack of studies on biodiversity and taxonomy for the genus in the nacional territory, the objective was to bring information about the native species of Southeast Brazil, describing the relationship between them, providing identification keys and descriptions of the species. We conducted bibliographical surveys in the main databases, collections analysis of the Southeast herbaria, in situ sampling, morphological analysis and taxonomic treatment. Through this study, two synonymizations were proposed and the inclusion of one species in the Brazilian list, recognizing 14 native species for the Southeast, six endemic species. The Hibiscus were characterized as sub-shrub to shrubs up to three meters. The species inhabit paludous areas of the Atlantic Forest, specially restinga and many phytophysiognomies of Cerrado.

O estudo taxonômico das espécies de Hibiscus foi realizado com base no exame de mais de 100 coleções depositadas nos acervos dos herbários do Estado de São Paulo, além de materiais coletados pelas autoras. Foram levantadas 14 espécies (seis nativas e oito cultivadas com fim ornamental). As espécies nativas ocorrem preferencialmente em áreas brejosas nos domínios da Floresta Ombrófila densa e do Cerrado, enquanto que as espécies cultivadas foram encontradas em praças, canteiros públicos, parques, hortos, jardins residenciais e de instituições de pesquisa e ensino. São apresentadas chave de identificação, ilustrações de caracteres diagnósticos, dados de distribuição geográfica e comentários sobre a morfologia e taxonomia das espécies. Hibiscus urticifolius A. St.-Hil. & Naudin é uma nova ocorrência para o Estado de São Paulo.

This taxonomic treatment of Hibiscus was based on an analysis of more than 100 specimens from herbaria in São Paulo State and of material collected by the authors. The genus is represented by six native species and eight cultivated species for ornamental purposes. The native species are distributed in swampy areas of Atlantic rain forest and Cerrado, while the cultivated species are found in squares, public areas, parks, and private and public gardens. Identification key, illustrations, data on geographic distribution, and comments on morphology and taxonomy of the species are presented. Hibiscus urticifolius A. St.Hil & Naudin is reported for the first time for São Paulo State.
