Os primeiros dois anos de vida são críticos para a aquisição e desenvolvimento de habilidades auditivas e linguagem. OBJETIVO: Verificar o desempenho de lactentes com fissura labiopalatina (FLP) com e sem indicadores de risco à audição (IRA) no teste de reconhecimento verbal (TRV). Estudo prospectivo. MATERIAL E MÉTODOS: Pais de 100 lactentes (9 a 18 meses) com FLP foram entrevistados para verificar a presença de IRA e à constituição dos grupos em estudo. Todos os lactentes foram submetidos ao TRV. Resultados: Doenças otológicas, não-amamentação natural, tabagismo dos pais, insuficiência das vias aéreas superiores, permanência na incubadora e antecedentes com surdez foram os IRA mais freqüentes. 85 lactentes apresentaram IRA e 40% deles TRV alterado. 15 não apresentaram IRA e 73% apresentaram desempenho no TRV esperado para a sua idade. Não foi encontrada significância (p=0,326) entre os grupos. 54 lactentes apresentaram história de otite média (OM) e 31% deles tiveram alteração no TRV. 46 não apresentaram OM e apresentaram desempenho no TRV esperado para a sua idade. Encontrada diferença significativa (p=0,000). CONCLUSÃO: Identificou-se a presença de outros IRA além FLP. O desempenho dos lactentes com e sem histórico de IRA não diferiu no TRV. A presença de doenças otológicas interferiu significativamente no TRV.

The first two years of life are critical for the acquisition and development of hearing and speaking skills. AIM: This prospective study aims to verify the performance of infants with cleft lip and palate (CLP) with and without risk factors for hearing (RFH) in the verbal recognition test (VRT). MATERIAL AND METHOD: The parents of 100 infants (9 to 18 months of age) with CLP were interviewed to investigate the presence of RFH and to sort out the characteristics of the study groups. All infants underwent VRT. RESULTS: Otologic diseases, lack of breastfeeding, parental smoking, upper airway insufficiency, stay in an incubator, and family history of hearing impairment were the most frequent RFH. Eighty-five infants had RFH, among which 40% had altered VRT results; fifteen did not have any RFH and 73% performed as expected for their age range in the VRT. There was no significant difference (p=0.326) between groups. Fifty-four infants had history of otitis media (OM), among which 31% had altered VRT results; forty-six had no history of OM and performed as expected for their age range in the VRT; Statistically significant difference (p=0.000) was found. CONCLUSION: Other risk factors for hearing aside CLP were found. Infants with and without history of RFH performed similarly in the VRT. The presence of otologic diseases significantly interfered with the VRT.

OBJETIVO: descrever habilidades do desenvolvimento de trigêmeos aos 18 meses e aos 29 meses de vida, enfocando a comunicação. MÉTODOS: irmãos trigêmeos dizigóticos do sexo masculino. Os procedimentos de avaliação englobaram: Anamnese, Observação do Comportamento Comunicativo e Escala de Desenvolvimento de Gesell e Amatruda (2000). As avaliações foram realizadas aos 18 e aos 29 meses. As crianças apresentaram atraso do desenvolvimento neuropsicomotor e eram expostas a multilingüismo. RESULTADOS: foi verificada alteração nos comportamentos comunicativos nas três crianças, tanto na primeira quanto na segunda avaliação, embora tenha sido observada melhora do desempenho, após as orientações recebidas pela família. Na segunda avaliação foi observada criptofasia. Dos comportamentos motor grosseiro, delicado, adaptativo, pessoal-social e de linguagem, o último foi o mais afetado para as três crianças, apesar de todos estarem alterados considerando a idade cronológica dos trigêmeos. CONCLUSÃO: as habilidades do desenvolvimento dos trigêmeos avaliados neste estudo estavam alteradas, acometendo todas as áreas. Ressalta-se maior comprometimento da linguagem tanto aos 18 como aos 29 meses.

PURPOSE: to describe abilities of triplets' development by 18 months and the 29 months of life, focusing on communication. METHODS: dizygotic male sibling triplets. The evaluation procedures included history of disease, observing the communicative behavior and Escala de Desenvolvimento de Gesell e Amatruda (2000). The evaluations were accomplished by the 18 months and the 29 months. The children showed delay in the neuropshycomotor development and were exposed to multilingualism. RESULTS: alteration was verified in the communicative behaviors in the three children, both in the first as well as in the second evaluation, although an amelioration was shown in the performance, after the orientations received by the family. Cryptophasia was observed in the second evaluation. Of the gross motor, fine motor-adaptive, personal-social and language behaviors, the last one was the most affected as for the three children, in spite of all of them being altered considering the triplets' chronological age. CONCLUSION: the abilities of the triplets' development appraised in this study were altered, affecting all the areas. Larger commitment of the language is emphasized both by the age of 18 months as well as by 29 months.

O objetivo deste estudo de caso foi descrever a intervenção fonoaudiológica de uma criança autista, tendo sido este trabalho realizado na Clínica de Fonoaudiologia da Faculdade de Odontologia de Bauru (FOB-USP). A criança em questão era do gênero masculino, com diagnóstico de autismo realizado aos 24 meses de idade, e que, desde a época do diagnóstico, recebeu intervenção fonoaudiológica individual duas vezes por semana, sendo aqui relatados os primeiros nove meses de terapia. Os resultados mostram que a criança desenvolveu uma comunicação funcional por meio da linguagem oral e outras formas de simbolismo, além de contato ocular espontâneo e comunicativo e momentos de atenção conjunta com adultos e crianças.

This study aims to describe language intervention process of an autistic child at the Speech Pathology Department at USP-Bauru. An autistic male child diagnosed at two years old was submitted to private language intervention twice a week, since diagnosis. The study reports the first nine months of therapy. Results show that the child developed functional communication through oral language and other ways of symbolism, in addition to spontaneous and communicative eye contact, moments of attention in activities with adults and children.

A holoprosencefalia (HPE) é a mais freqüente das malformações craniofaciais descritas na literatura. Diversos genes já foram identificados como causadores desse tipo de anomalia, entre eles, o Sonic Hedgehog (SHH), ZIC2, SIX3 e TGIF. O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar as habilidades neuropsicolingüísticas de um indivíduo com HPE e mutação no gene SHH, apresentando características fenotípicas do tipo Like. Os resultados evidenciaram que, apesar de se tratar de um grau leve de HPE (fenótipo Like), o paciente apresentou perdas significativas nas habilidades lingüísticas, com aspecto cognitivo dentro da normalidade. O exame de ressonância magnética do encéfalo revelou hipoplasia da comissura anterior e presença de cisto temporal à esquerda, achados aparentemente não relacionados à sintomatologia clínica.

The holoprosencephaly (HPE) is the most frequent of the craniofacial malformations described in literature. Several genes have already been identified as responsible for this kind of anomaly, among them, the Sonic Hedgehog (SHH), ZIC2, SIX3 and TGIF. The aim of this study was to evaluate the neuropsycholinguistic abilities of an individual with the HPE and mutation of the SHH gene, presenting phenotypic characteristics of the Like type. The results evidenced that, in spite of the lightness of the degree of HPE (Like phenopype), the patient showed significant loss of the linguistic abilities, although the cognitive aspects were adequate. The magnetic resonance of the encephalon revealed hypoplasia of the anterior commissure and presence of a temporal cyst on the left side, findings apparently not related to the clinic symptomatology.
