Abstract Anchored in notes elaborated in a multispecies ethnography, this text formulates a reading of biological science laboratories as situating practices of human and non-human actors. For this, the authors bring up plants from/in the caatinga, laboratory equipment, chemical reagents and biologists as entities that act collectively to produce slides with plant pieces that circulate in physical spaces and in texts, becoming entities capable of, although distant from their referents (the plants of the caatinga), informing the transformations (and impacts) of the environments in which they inhabit. It is argued that the actors, human or not, involved in multispecies plots of biological science laboratories, respond from their own agendas that, when tuned, bring outresearch, laboratories and other territories in a constant work of mediation.

Resumo Ancorado em anotações elaboradas em uma etnografia multiespécie, este texto formula uma leitura de laboratórios de ciências biológicas como práticas situantes de atores humanos e não humanos. Para isso, os autores trazem à baila plantas da/na caatinga, equipamentos de laboratório, reagentes químicos e biólogos como entidades que atuam coletivamente para produzir lâminas com retalhos de vegetais que circulam em espaços físicos e em textos, tornando-se capazes de, ainda que distantes dos seus referentes (as plantas da caatinga), informar as transformações (e impactos) dos ambientes em que habitam. Argumenta-se que os atores, humanos ou não, envolvidos em tramas multiespécies de laboratórios de ciências biológicas, respondem a partir de agendas próprias que, quando sintonizadas, fazem aparecer pesquisas, laboratórios e outros territórios em um constante trabalho de mediação.

Resumo Este texto apresenta uma leitura acerca da presença das mulheres na Escola Normal de Caetité, Bahia- Brasil (1898-1943), em um esforço de romper com narrativas, em legislações e currículos escolares, que as descrevem como professoras submissas, executoras de tarefas prescritas por homens. Ao retomar documentos do Arquivo Público Municipal, da Escola Normal de Caetité e de professoras aposentadas em um percurso histórico-discursivo situado nos estudos de gênero, que envolveu leituras de exemplares do Jornal A Penna e de fotografias, o texto problematiza políticas de silenciamento em duas temporalidades, a dos documentos do período 1898-1943 e a dos arquivos que organizam as narrativas da Escola Normal no tempo presente, para fazer aparecer experiências de protagonismo de mulheres no magistério. Tal período marca o início da formação de professores na referida cidade e estende-se até o fim das atividades do Jornal A Penna, uma das fontes deste estudo. As cenas educacionais que os documentos dos arquivos fazem aparecer permitem afirmar que a Escola Normal emergiu sexista, classista e racista como sintoma de um Estado constituído nesses mesmos matizes. Existir como mulher e como mulher negra significou resistir às diversas opressões. Conclui-se argumentando que modos criativos das mulheres da Escola Normal de Caetité contribuíram para resistir às políticas de silenciamento do alto sertão da Bahia a partir da segunda metade do século XX e devem aparecer nos acervos dos arquivos locais como condição de possibilidade para produções textuais que sustentem protagonismos marcados por experiências generificadas e racializadas.

Abstract This text presents a reading about the presence of women in the Escola Normal de Caetité, Bahia, Brazil (1898-1943) in an effort to break with narratives, in school legislation and curricula, which describe them as submissive teachers, executing tasks prescribed by men. When resuming documents from the Municipal Public Archive, from the Escola Normal de Caetité and from retired teachers in a historical-discursive path located in gender studies, which involved reading copies of the Jornal A Penna and of photographs, the text problematizes policies of silencing in two temporalities, that of the documents of the period 1898-1943 and that of the archives that organize the narratives of the Normal School in the present time, to bring out experiences of protagonism of women in the teaching profession. This period marks the beginning of teacher training in Caetité and extends till the end of the activities of Jornal A Penna, one of the sources of this study. The educational scenes that the documents in the archives reveal allow us to affirm that the Escola Normal emerged sexist, classist and racist as a symptom of a State constituted in these same nuances. To exist as a woman and as a black woman meant resisting different oppressions. It concludes by arguing that the creative ways of the women of the Escola Normal de Caetité contributed to resist the silencing policies of the Upper Sertão region of Bahia from the second half of the 20th century and should appear in the local archives as a condition of possibility for textual productions sustaining forms of protagonism marked by gendered and racialized experiences.

Resumo Em diálogo com análises etnográficas sobre as relações humano-animal, este texto apresenta desdobramentos de um estudo que, por meio da observação da rotina de laboratórios de ciências biológicas e de entrevistas com biólogos, rastreou trabalhos de descrição da biodiversidade permeados por tensões relacionadas à vida e à morte de animais de pesquisa do bioma caatinga. Argumenta-se que o jogo entre vida e morte que marca as relações que vinculam animais e os seus biólogos produz carreiras científicas em pesquisas que tomam como objeto os contornos do bioma caatinga como exclusivamente brasileiro, rico em diversidade biológica e ameaçado de extinção. Como desdobramento, as disciplinas científicas ecologia e zoologia são posicionadas como saberes de caatinga que versam sobre indicadores ambientais necessários à segurança dos não humanos em seus habitats.

Abstract Dialoguing with ethnographic analyzes on human-animal relations, this text presents developments from a study that tracked works of description of biodiversity which are permeated by tensions related to life and death of research animals of the caatinga biome, through observing the routine of life science labs and interviewing biologists. It is argued that the game between life and death that marks the relationships that bind animals and their biologists produces scientific careers in researches that take as their object the contours of the biome caatinga as exclusively Brazilian, rich in biological diversity and threatened with extinction. As unfolding, the scientific disciplines ecology and zoology are positioned as caatinga knowledge that deal with environmental indicators that are necessary for the safety of non-humans in their habitats.
