RESUMO O objetivo desta pesquisa foi avaliar a influência de diferentes épocas de plantio e variáveis meteorológicas no desempenho produtivo da mandioca industrial na região do Agreste de Alagoas. Os tratamentos foram cinco datas de plantio, com espaçamento temporal de 25 dias entre elas: D1 - 10 de abril, D2 - 05 de maio, D3 - 30 de maio, D4 - 24 de junho e D5 - 19 de julho. O período experimental foi de abril de 2021 a setembro de 2023, dois ciclos de cultivo. Utilizou-se o delineamento em blocos casualizados, com quatro repetições. As variáveis analisadas foram: dados agrometeorológicas e de crescimento e produção da cultura. Na região do Agreste de Alagoas, entre as estações chuvosa e seca, a ET0 média diária varia de 2,9 a 4,7 mm, respectivamente. A temperatura média do ar é 24,3 °C e atende as demandas térmicas da cultura da mandioca. A precipitação anual é suficiente para garantir a produção de mandioca, porém, há sazonalidade nas chuvas, com período seco da primavera ao verão, o que prejudica plantios mais tardios. Na região do Agreste de Alagoas, o melhor período para o plantio da mandioca é de 10 de abril a 5 de maio, que é o início do período chuvoso da região e garante melhores resultados em: altura do dossel vegetativo (3,2 m), diâmetro do caule (2,8 cm), índice de área foliar (3,0), comprimento máximo (43,1 cm), número (6,6) e rendimento de raízes (72,8 t ha-1), biomassa total (145 t ha-1) e teor de amido (34,3%).

ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of different planting times and meteorological variables on the productive performance of industrial cassava in the Agreste region of Alagoas state, Brazil. The treatments were five planting dates, 25 days apart: D1 - April 10, D2 - May 5, D3 - May 30, D4 - June 24 and D5 - July 19. The experiment was conducted from April 2021 to September 2023 (two cultivation cycles), using randomized blocks, with four replicates. The variables analyzed were agrometeorological data, crop growth and yield. In the Agreste region of Alagoas, the average daily ET0 varies from 2.9 to 4.7 mm between the rainy and dry seasons, respectively. The average temperature of 24.3 °C meets the thermal demands of cassava cultivation. Although annual rainfall is sufficient to guarantee cassava production, it is seasonal, with a dry period from spring to summer, which compromises subsequent plantings. In the Agreste region of Alagoas, the best time to plant cassava is from April 10 to May 5, which is the beginning of the rainy season and ensures better vegetative canopy height (3.2 m), stem diameter (2.8 cm), leaf area index (3.0), maximum root length (43.1 cm), number (6.6) and yield (72.8 t ha-1), total biomass (145 t ha-1) and starch content (34.3%).

Resumo O objetivo é analisar as associações da vitimização e perpetração do bullying com sintomas depressivos e qualidade de vida relacionada à saúde (QVRS) em uma amostra de adolescentes brasileiros do ensino médio. Os adolescentes (n=852, 50,2% do sexo feminino, idade média: 16,4 anos) responderam a um questionário sobre sintomas depressivos elaborado a partir da Escala de Depressão do Center for Epidemiologic Studies. A QVRS foi medida através do Índice Kidscreen-10, e a informação relacionada com o bullying foi extraída de duas questões diferentes (vítimas e agressores). Foram utilizados modelos de regressão logística multinível. Os adolescentes vítimas de bullying apresentaram níveis mais altos de sintomas depressivos e uma percepção mais baixa de QVRS do que aqueles que não eram vítimas. Por outro lado, foi encontrada uma relação inversa entre os perpetradores de bullying em comparação com aqueles que não eram perpetradores. O impacto na saúde dos adolescentes varia de acordo com o seu papel em situações de bullying.

Resumen El objetivo es analizar las asociaciones de victimización y perpetración de bullying con síntomas depresivos y calidad de vida relacionada con la salud (CVRS) en una muestra de adolescentes brasileños de secundaria. Los adolescentes (n=852, 50,2% mujeres, edad media: 16,4 años) respondieron a un cuestionario sobre síntomas depresivos extraído de la Escala de Depresión del Centro de Estudios Epidemiológicos. La CVRS se midió mediante el índice Kidscreen-10 y la información relacionada con el acoso se extrajo de dos preguntas diferentes (víctimas y agresores). Se utilizaron modelos de regresión logística multinivel. Los adolescentes que fueron víctimas de bullying tuvieron mayores niveles de síntomas depresivos y una menor percepción de CVRS que aquellos que no fueron víctimas. Por otro lado, se encontró una relación inversa entre los perpetradores de acoso escolar respecto a aquellos que no lo fueron. El impacto en la salud de los adolescentes varía según su papel en situaciones de bullying.

Abstract The aim is to analyze the associations of bullying victimization and perpetration with depressive symptoms and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in a sample of Brazilian high school adolescents. Adolescents (n=852, 50.2% female, mean age: 16.4 years) answered a questionnaire about depressive symptoms drawn from the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale. HRQoL was measured using the Kidscreen-10 Index, and bullying-related information was extracted from two different questions (victims and perpetrators). Multilevel logistic regression models were used. Adolescent victims of bullying had higher levels of depressive symptoms and a lower perception of HRQoL than those who were not victims. On the other hand, an inverse relationship was found for perpetrators of bullying compared to those who were not perpetrators. Adolescents’ health-related impacts varied according to their role in bullying situations.

RESUMO Objetivo: Analisar a tendência temporal da carga de câncer de mama em mulheres brasileiras com menos de 40 anos em comparação à faixa etária acima de 40 anos, entre 1996 e 2019. Métodos: Realizou-se um estudo ecológico de tendência temporal no Brasil entre 1996 e 2019, a partir de dados do estudo Global Burden of Disease (GBD). O método de regressão segmentada (Joinpoint Regression) foi aplicado para analisar as taxas entre mulheres abaixo e acima de 40 anos. Para capturar as diferenças entre o nível e a tendência da mortalidade e dos DALYs, calculou-se a razão de taxas ano a ano para os dois grupos. Resultados: Em relação ao DALY, observou-se um declínio médio anual de 0,7% (IC95% −0,8 a −0,5, p<0,01) para mulheres acima de 40 anos e um aumento de 1,0% ao ano (IC95% 0,9 a 1,1, p<0,001) para mulheres até 40 anos. Para a mortalidade, o declínio entre as mulheres mais velhas é de 0,3% ao ano (IC95% −0,4 a −0,2, p<0,001), e o aumento entre as mulheres jovens é de 0,8% ao ano (IC95% 0,7 a 1,0, p<0,001). A razão média de taxas para DALYs foi de 5,2, enquanto para a mortalidade foi de 8,1. Conclusão: A análise reforça a ideia de que a magnitude e a tendência da mortalidade por câncer de mama entre mulheres jovens constituem uma questão de saúde que requer atenção dos tomadores de decisão. Este diagnóstico destaca a importância de iniciar discussões sobre a necessidade de revisar os critérios de rastreamento populacional, incorporando regras de predição clínica.

ABSTRACT Objective: To analyze the temporal trend of the burden of breast cancer in Brazilian women under 40 years of age compared to the age group over 40 years of age, between 1996 and 2019. Methods: An ecological time trend study was conducted in Brazil between 1996 and 2019 using data from the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) study. The segmented regression method (Joinpoint Regression) was applied to analyze rates among women under and over 40 years of age. To capture differences in the level and trend of mortality and DALYs, the rate ratio was calculated for the two groups on a year-by-year basis. Results: Regarding DALY, an average annual decline of 0.7% (95%CI −0.8 to −0.5, p<0.01) was observed among women over 40 years old, while an annual increase of 1.0% (95%CI 0.9 to 1.1, p<0.001) was noted for women up to 40 years old. For mortality, the decline among older women was 0.3% per year (95%CI −0.4 to −0.2, p<0.001), and the increase among young women was 0.8% per year (95%CI 0.7 to 1.0, p<0.001). The average rate ratio for DAILY was 5.2, while for mortality, the average rate ratio was 8.1. Conclusion: the analysis reinforces the idea that the magnitude and trend of breast cancer mortality among young women is a health issue requiring attention from health decision-makers. This diagnosis underscores the importance of initiating discussions on the need to review population screening criteria, incorporating clinical prediction rules.

Resumo O objetivo deste artigo é identificar a associação de fatores sociodemográficos e comportamentos de estilo de vida com a perpetração do bullying e da vitimização entre os alunos do ensino médio. Os adolescentes (n=852) responderam a um questionário sobre bullying (vítimas e perpetradores), fatores sociodemográficos (sexo, idade, educação materna e status profissional dos participantes), uso de tabaco, uso de álcool, experimentação de drogas ilícitas, atividade física, tempo de tela e duração do sono. Modelos de regressão logística multinível foram realizados. Os adolescentes mais velhos eram menos propensos a serem vítimas de bullying. As mulheres tinham menos probabilidade de serem perpetradoras ou vítimas de bullying. Os adolescentes que estavam trabalhando tinham maior probabilidade de estarem envolvidos em bullying em ambas as formas. A participação em atividades não esportivas e o consumo de álcool estavam associados a maiores probabilidades de vitimização por bullying. Identificamos subgrupos populacionais específicos que são mais suscetíveis a serem vítimas e/ou perpetradores de bullying, o que poderia apoiar intervenções específicas sob medida para evitar o bullying.

Abstract This article aims to identify the association of sociodemographic factors and lifestyle behaviours with bullying perpetration and victimization among high school students. The adolescents (n=852) answered a questionnaire about bullying (victims and perpetrators), sociodemographic factors (sex, age, maternal education, and participant’s work status), tobacco use, alcohol use, illicit drug experimentation, physical activity, screen time, and sleep duration. Multilevel logistic regression models were performed. Older adolescents were less likely to be victims of bullying. Females were less likely to be perpetrators or victims of bullying. Adolescents who were working were more likely to be involved in bullying in both forms. Participation in non-sport activities and alcohol consumption were associated with higher odds of bullying victimization. We have identified specific populational subgroups that are more susceptible to being victims and/or perpetrators of bullying, which could support tailor-specific interventions to prevent bullying.

ABSTRACT Introduction: The Brazilian tax structure embodies a conservative facet of the social pact established by the 1988 Constitution. This article examines the effects of two specific taxes, the ICMS (Tax on Sales of Goods and Services) and the IPVA (Tax on Vehicle Ownership), on income distribution in Brazil. Materials and methods: Drawing on data from the 2017-2018 Family Budget Survey, our study estimated the annual expenditure on ICMS and IPVA for each family. We then calculated the percentage spent on these taxes by each income decile, as well as by the gender and race of the reference person, and by family composition. Additionally, we calculated the Lerman-Yitzhaki progressivity index to assess the degree of regressivity of these two taxes individually and collectively. Results: Our findings revealed a high regressivity of the ICMS and a relative proportionality of the IPVA when examining the entire population, and regressivity when considering only paying families. This regressivity was observed across both vertical (income levels) and horizontal (gender and race) equity dimensions. Discussion: The state-level taxation system disproportionately affects the most economically vulnerable people, Black individuals, and single mothers due to the indirect nature and rates of these taxes. This impact is exacerbated by the spending patterns and product choices of these vulnerable groups. Despite efforts to alleviate this tax regressivity, meaningful progress can only be achieved by rebalancing the relationship between direct and indirect taxes and by effectively incorporating considerations of gender and race into tax policies.

RESUMO Introdução: A estrutura tributária brasileira compõe a face conservadora do pacto social celebrado pela Constituição de 1988. O artigo analisa o impacto do ICMS (Imposto sobre Circulação de Mercadorias e Serviços) e do IPVA (Imposto sobre a Propriedade de Veículos Automotores) na distribuição de renda no Brasil. Materiais e métodos: A partir da Pesquisa de Orçamento Familiar de 2017-2018 são estimados os gastos anuais com ICMS e IPVA de cada família e calculado o percentual gasto nos impostos por cada decil de renda, pelo sexo e raça da pessoa de referência e pela composição familiar. Calcula-se ainda o índice de progressividade de Lerman-Yitzhaki para estimar o grau de regressividade desses dois impostos separadamente e em conjunto. Resultados: Há uma alta regressividade no ICMS e relativa proporcionalidade no IPVA quando considerada toda a população, e regressividade, quando consideradas apenas as famílias pagantes. Há regressividade tanto do ponto de vista da equidade vertical (níveis de renda), quanto horizontal (gênero e raça). Discussão: O sistema de tributação estadual afeta de forma desproporcional os mais pobres, negros e mães solteiras, devido à natureza indireta dos impostos e suas taxas. Esse impacto é intensificado pelas particularidades nos gastos e na escolha de produtos por esses grupos vulneráveis. Apesar dos esforços para diminuir essa regressividade fiscal, uma verdadeira mudança só será alcançada ajustando a relação entre impostos diretos e indiretos na arrecadação e incorporando de forma efetiva considerações de gênero e raça nas políticas tributárias.

ABSTRACT This study aims to verify whether the inequalities by education level found in the population as a whole are also confirmed among those who subscribed to personal insurance and/or open private pension plans in Brazil between 2012 and 2017. This study is a trailblazer in estimating mortality differentials by education level in populations with personal insurance and open private pensions in Brazil. The research contributes to the understanding of socioeconomic factors related to living conditions and, consequently, mortality. The results show that, even in a population that records lower mortality rates and higher life expectancies when compared to the Brazilian population as a whole, education level plays a major role as a protective factor. Population and death data were provided by 23 insurance groups. Through an agreement with the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, the Applied Mathematics Laboratory of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (LabMA/UFRJ) provided the list of insured people to this ministry, data was cross-referenced with government information and returned to the LabMA/UFRJ with identification of education level, when available, as well as indication of deceased, completing company records. Mortality tables were then drawn up for the insured population by education level. To obtain smoothed tables, Heligman and Pollard’s law was applied using a Bayesian approach, via Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) simulation. In the period from 2012 to 2017, among Brazilians who took advantage of personal insurance and open supplementary pensions, men with a high education level had, at the age of 60, a life expectancy of 5.6 and 6.6 years greater than those with a lower education level, in mortality and survival coverage, respectively. In the case of women, the comparison between the most educated and the least educated shows a difference of 2.7 years in mortality coverage and 5.4 years in survival coverage.

RESUMO O objetivo deste estudo é verificar se as desigualdades por nível educacional encontradas na população em geral também se confirmam entre aqueles que aderiram aos seguros de pessoas e/ou previdência privada aberta no Brasil entre 2012 e 2017. Este estudo é precursor na estimativa dos diferenciais de mortalidade por nível educacional em populações com seguros de pessoas e previdência privada aberta no Brasil. A pesquisa contribui com a compreensão dos fatores socioeconômicos relacionados às condições de vida e, consequentemente, à mortalidade. Os resultados mostram que, mesmo em uma população que registra taxas de mortalidade mais baixas e expectativas de vida mais elevadas em comparação à população brasileira em geral, o nível educacional tem um papel relevante como fator protetivo. Os dados de população e de óbitos foram fornecidos por 23 grupos seguradores. Por meio de um acordo com o Ministério do Trabalho e Previdência Social, o Laboratório de Matemática Aplicada da Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (LabMA/UFRJ) forneceu a lista dos segurados a esse ministério, os dados foram cruzados com informações governamentais e devolvidos ao LabMA/UFRJ com a identificação de escolaridade, quando disponível, bem como a indicação dos falecidos, completando os registros das empresas. Em seguida, foram elaboradas tábuas de mortalidade da população segurada por nível educacional. Para obtenção de tábuas suavizadas, foi aplicada a lei de Heligman e Pollard com abordagem bayesiana, via simulação de Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC). No período de 2012 a 2017, dentre os brasileiros que usufruíam dos seguros de pessoas e de previdência complementar aberta, os homens com alta escolaridade tinham, aos 60 anos, uma expectativa de vida de 5,6 e 6,6 anos maior em comparação àqueles menos escolarizados, nas coberturas de mortalidade e sobrevivência, respectivamente. No caso das mulheres, a comparação entre as mais escolarizadas e as menos escolarizadas mostra uma diferença de 2,7 anos na cobertura de mortalidade e 5,4 anos na cobertura de sobrevivência.

Abstract This paper aims to understand what are the main weaknesses of the public transportation policy of Belo Horizonte when compared to the policy adopted by other capital cities, with a special focus on the city of Curitiba-PR. To do so, we chose the IMUS (Sustainable Urban Mobility Index), developed by Costa (2008), a support tool for public policy development. The index includes 87 indicators, which can be applied only partially depending on the focus of analysis. Since the focus of this research is public transportation, only 22 indicators directly related to the topic were calculated. In addition, a comparative analysis was performed between the results obtained by other Brazilian capitals. The results obtained by applying the index pointed to an unsatisfactory performance achieved by the Municipality, resulting mainly from the negative scores achieved by indicators related to the form of financing of the system and the provision of infrastructure by the public authority. As conclusions, the study suggests the improvement of financing mechanisms for public transportation, as well as greater investment in urban infrastructure and further qualitative studies.

Resumo Este artigo busca compreender os gargalos da política de transporte público coletivo (TPC) de Belo Horizonte, quando comparada às de outras capitais, em especial, ao caso do município de Curitiba-PR. Para tanto, foi escolhido o IMUS (Índice de Mobilidade Urbana Sustentável), desenvolvido por Costa (2008), ferramenta de suporte à elaboração de políticas públicas. O índice é composto por 87 indicadores, os quais podem ser utilizados em sua totalidade ou parcialmente, a depender do foco da análise. Nesta pesquisa, focada no transporte público, foram selecionados 22 indicadores diretamente ligados ao tema. Foi realizada uma análise comparativa entre os resultados obtidos para Belo Horizonte e aqueles obtidos por outras capitais brasileiras. Os resultados apontaram desempenho insatisfatório de Belo Horizonte, decorrente principalmente das notas negativas dos indicadores relacionados ao financiamento do sistema e à provisão de infraestrutura pelo poder público. Como conclusões, o estudo sugere o aprimoramento dos mecanismos de financiamento do TPC, bem como maiores investimentos na infraestrutura urbana, além de sugerir a realização de estudos complementares de viés qualitativo.

Abstract The distribution of amphibians is conditioned by historical factors and ecological drivers. Thus, Ecological Niche Models are important tools to provide information on the potential distribution of the species and determine where they will be requirements in future. Mainly, rare species or with restricted areas of occurrence, because this information are essential to understanding of their living area, microhabitat use, or natural history, serving as a basis for preservation actions. Xenohyla eugenioi is a poorly known species, restricted to transition areas of Caatinga and Atlantic Forest from Minas Gerais to Sergipe. This species exhibits little biological information available and few specimens housed in museums, which difficulty to plan conservation strategies. Here our aim was modeling the current and future distribution and discussing about conservation of Xenohyla eugenioi. We searched for occurrence records through literature and scientific collections data. For the future (2071-2100), we used ensemble models from three algorithms (CTA, GLM and ANN) to two shared socioeconomic pathways (SSP370 and SSP585 scenarios). This species has approximately 650 km in straight line between the extreme localities, occurring mainly in bromeliads near to water bodies. The Ensemble method indicates the most suitable areas of occurrence were over ecotonal range between Caatinga and Atlantic Forest and our projections have showed suitable conditions to highlands (up to 1.000 m). However, in the future, is expected total erosion of the X. eugenioi populations, due climatic changes, which reinforce the caution to conservation of this poorly known species and necessity of studies about its ecology, natural history and distribution. Moreover, we hope that this work can contribute to the discovery of new records, characterizing the narrower niche space than this species may actually inhabit.

ABSTRACT This study aimed to investigate the effects of different levels of vitamin D3 in broiler diets on performance and bone health. A total of 360 one-day old male Cobb500® broiler chicks were subjected to five treatments of different levels of vitamin D3 in diets during two rearing phases: 0 IU/kg in both phases; 625 IU/kg in starter and 500 IU/kg in grower phase (25% of commercial inclusion); 1,250 IU/kg in starter and 1,000 IU/kg in grower phase (50% of commercial inclusion); 1,875 IU/kg in starter and 1,500 IU/kg in grower phase (75% of commercial inclusion); and 2,500 IU/kg in starter and 2,000 IU/kg in grower phase (100% of commercial inclusion). The traits studied weekly were feed intake, body weight, feed conversion, and viability. At 21 and 35 days of age, tibiae and femurs were removed, dissected, and evaluated for dry matter (DM), ash (%MM), calcium (%Ca), phosphorus (%P) and breaking strength. At 35 days of age, the bones were subjected to histopathological analysis for macro- and microscopic morphological evaluation. Data were subjected to regression analysis, using α = 0.05. The variables of percentage %MM, %Ca, %P, and breaking strength experienced a positive linear effect up to the supplementation levels of approximately 25% of inclusion. The histopathological analysis found that the group that received the diet with 100% inclusion of vitamin D3 presented lesions compatible with osteopetrosis and tibial dyschondroplasia. The observed results showed that for isonutritive diets, reduced levels of vitamin D3 guaranteed performance during the evaluated period while the use of 100% of vitamin D3, as commonly used, can cause bone diseases and harm the welfare of broilers.

Abstract Background Temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) is a high prevalence neurological disorder. Surgery has emerged as a promising treatment. Objective The objective of this work is to compare the surgical results of anterior temporal lobectomy (ATL) versus selective amygdalohippocampectomy (SAH) in a cohort of 132 patients. Methods We performed a retrospective study of 146 patients operated for TLE from 2008 to 2019. Initially, 13 patients were excluded from the study due to insufficient medical record data or follow-up loss. One patient was excluded from the analysis of the results due to death in the first postoperative week. We used the ILAE scale to classify seizure control after surgery. In patients with left hippocampal sclerosis, SAH was performed and in right temporal lobe epilepsy, ATL was the approach of choice. Results The mean follow-up time after surgery was 57.2 months (12–137). In our data analysis, we found that the group of patients undergoing ATL had a higher prevalence of being completely seizure-free (ILAE I) (57.1% versus 31%) and a higher rate of satisfactory seizure control (88.6% versus 69.3%) p = 0,006, when compared with patients undergoing SAH. Conclusions The literature is still controversial about seizure control concerning the technique used due to the lack of a robust methodology. Our data analysis identified the superiority of ATL over SAH in seizure outcomes. ATL may be the best option for adequately controlling seizures with minimal additional morbidity in countries with a cost limitation for extended propaedeutics.

Resumo Antecedentes A epilepsia do lobo temporal (TLE) é uma desordem neurológica de alta prevalência. A cirurgia surgiu como um tratamento promissor. Objetivo O objetivo deste trabalho é comparar os resultados da lobectomia temporal anterior (ATL) versus amigdalohipocampectomia seletiva (SAH) em uma coorte de 132 pacientes. Métodos Realizamos um estudo retrospectivo de 146 pacientes operados por TLE de 2008 a 2019. Inicialmente, 13 pacientes foram excluídos por insuficiência de dados em prontuário ou perda de seguimento. Um paciente foi excluído da análise por óbito na primeira semana de pós-operatório. Usamos a escala ILAE para classificar o controle das crises após a cirurgia. Em pacientes com esclerose hipocampal à esquerda, foi realizada a SAH, e na epilepsia do lobo temporal à direita, a ATL foi a abordagem de escolha. Resultados O tempo médio de seguimento após a cirurgia foi de 57,2 meses (12–137). Em nossa avaliação, encontramos que o grupo de pacientes submetidos à ATL apresentou maior prevalência de ausência total de crises (ILAE I) (57,1% versus 31%) e maior taxa de controle satisfatório da epilepsia (88,6% versus 69,3%) p = 0,006, quando comparado ao grupo submetido à SAH. Resultados A literatura ainda é controversa em relação à redução das crises de acordo com a técnica utilizada devido a falta de uma metodologia robusta. Nosso estudo identificou superioridade da ATL sobre a SAH nos desfechos convulsivos. ATL pode ser a melhor opção para controlar adequadamente as convulsões com morbidade adicional mínima em países com limitação de custo para propedêutica estendida.

Resumo Projetos de integração de bacias hidrográficas são socialmente importantes em regiões como o semiárido brasileiro, porém há impactos ecológicos preocupantes implícitos nesses grandes projetos de infraestrutura. A colonização e dispersão da ictiofauna pelo Eixo Leste do Projeto de Integração do Rio São Francisco (PISF) foi monitorada para avaliar possíveis impactos na bacia receptora do rio Paraíba do Norte. Os peixes foram coletados semestralmente (2012 a 2021) em 19 locais das bacias do São Francisco (SF) e Paraíba (PB). Foram registradas 69 espécies de peixes, sendo 50 nos pontos do SF, 25 nos reservatórios artificiais ao longo do PISF e 35 nos pontos do PB. As assembleias de peixes das bacias do SF, PB e dos reservatórios do PISF foram significativamente distintas. Os reservatórios do PISF foram colonizados por espécies provenientes da bacia doadora (SF). Anchoviella vaillanti foi registrada pela primeira vez na bacia receptora do PB e está em processo de estabelecimento. As duas espécies do SF que chegaram ao PB pelos canais do PISF (A. vaillanti e Moenkhausia costae) apresentaram dieta e estratégias reprodutivas que permitem o sucesso na disseminação e colonização. Abstract Projects on river basin integration are keen social-economical drivers in dry regions like the Brazilian semiarid, however, there are concerning ecological impacts implied in those projects. In a long-term analysis, ichthyofauna colonization and spread through the East Axis of the São Francisco River Integration Project (SFIP) was monitored to assess possible impacts on the receiving Paraíba River basin. The fish were collected semiannually (2012 to 2021) from 19 sites in the São Francisco (SF) and Paraíba (PB) basins. A total of 69 fish species were recorded, with distinct fish assemblages between SF (n = 50), PB (n = 35), and the SFIP artificial reservoirs (n = 25). The SFIP reservoirs were colonized by species from the donor basin (SF). In a pioneer finding, Anchoviella vaillanti was recorded for the first time in the receiving basin and it is in the process of establishment. The two SF species that reached PB through the SFIP canals (A. vaillanti and Moenkhausia costae) may be using their year-round reproduction and wide diet to successful spread and colonize the new environment. ABSTRACT Infectious keratitis is a sight-threatening condition that is usually an ocular emergency. The visual outcome depends on prompt and accurate clinical management as well as geographic and epidemiological awareness. We conducted a retrospective observational study to define the epidemiological and laboratory profile, as well as the clinical course of bacterial keratitis in a tertiary hospital in São Paulo over 21 years. Information about age, sex, predisposing factors, topical and surgical treatment, visual acuity, ulcers’ classification, bacterioscopy, culture, and antibiotic sensitivity tests were collected. This study included 160 patients. The mean age was 65.1 ± 18.4 years and risk factors were identified in 83.1 % of the patients. Empirical topical fortified cephalosporin with an aminoglycoside or fourth-generation fluoroquinolone was curative for 66.2 % of the cases. The mean treatment duration was 22.5 ± 9 days. The mean variation of visual acuity was −0.25 logMAR, p < 0.001. Culture revealed 64 % of Gram-positive bacteria. All Gram-positive bacteria were sensitive to cephalothin, vancomycin, and quinolones. All Gram-negative bacteria were sensitive to gentamicin, tobramycin, amikacin, and ciprofloxacin. These findings reinforce the importance of prompt empirical treatment of severe corneal ulcers with a fortified cephalosporin and aminoglycoside or a fourth-generation fluoroquinolone as there are equally effective. Collected data was insufficient to evaluate resistance of ocular infections over time in this population.
