This study evaluates the influence of milling on the reactivity of drilling cuttings (DC) utilized as supplementary cementitious material in ternary cements (TC). The drilling cuttings milling study varied the time (2, 5, 10, 15, and 20 min) and rotation speed (200 and 300 rpm), determining the specific milling energy and grindability index. The hydration of TC pastes containing DC with different particle size distributions was evaluated by isothermal calorimetry during the first 72 hours, XRD/Rietveld at 3 and 28 days, compressive strength and absorption. The incorporation of milled DC improved the TC hydration kinetics compared to reference pastes of ordinary Portland cement (REF.PC). After 28 days, the TC pastes with the D50% diameter smaller than 11 µm reached at least 70% of the resistance to the strength of the Portland cement paste. Milled DC contributes to the physical and nucleation effect of the TC pastes studied and can be used as an SCM.

Resumo Não há pesquisas que demonstrem o efeito de matérias-primas residuais combinadas como alternativa às fontes naturais em cimentos do tipo LC 3 . Nesse contexo, o objetivo deste estudo é avaliar a influência da composição de cimentos ternários contendo resíduos industriais sobre as suas propriedades reológicas e de hidratação. Como matérias-primas foram utilizados cimento Portland (CP), resíduos de bloco cerâmico (RBC), de porcelanato (RP), de mármore (RM) e fosfogesso (FG). O comportamento reológico das pastas foi analisado pela evolução do mini-abatimento no tempo e reometria rotacional. A hidratação foi avaliada por calorimetria isotérmica e DRX/Rietveld. Um incremento na área superficial específica implicou no aumento da tensão de escoamento e viscosidade plástica da pasta. O RBC e RP possuem reatividade pozolânica, apresentando incremento do teor de fases não cristalinas (incluindo C-S-H).Os CTs atingiram no mínimo 70% da resistência à compressão da pasta de CP V ARI. Os resultados sugerem que os resíduos RBC, RP, RM e FG podem ser utilizados como alternativa para redução do fator clínquer e redução dos impactos ambientais e econômicos associados à extração de matérias-primas naturais para produção de cimentos.

Abstract No research demonstrates the effect of combined waste raw materials as an alternative to natural sources in Limestone Calcined Clay Cement (LC3). In this context, this study aimed to evaluate the influence of the composition of ternary cements (TCs) containing industrial waste on their rheological and hydration properties. As raw materials, Portland cement and clay brick (CBW), clay tile (CTW), marble (MW), and phosphogypsum (PG) wastes were used. The rheological behaviour of the pastes was analysed by the mini-slump evolution over time and rotational rheometry. Hydration was evaluated by isothermal calorimetry and XRD/Rietveld. An increase in the specific surface area enhances the yield stress and plastic viscosity of the paste. CBW and CTW have pozzolanic reactivity, presenting an increase in the content of non-crystalline phases, including calcium silicate hydrate (C-S-H). The TCs reached at least 70% of the compressive strength of theHigh Early Strength Portland cement paste.The results suggest that CBW, CTW, MW and PG can be used as an alternative to reduce the clinker factor and decrease the environmental and economic impacts associated with extracting natural raw materials for cement production.

Resumo Embora a utilização de matérias-primas residuais como materiais cimentícios suplementares (MCS) seja uma temática crescente na literatura, o processo de beneficiamento por moagem e seus parâmetros ainda são pouco explorados e apresentados.Nesse contexto, o presente estudo visa avaliar os parâmetros de moagem para o beneficiamento dos resíduos de mármore, porcelanato, bloco cerâmico e fosfogesso para reciclagem como MCS. As matérias-primas foram beneficiadas por britagem, peneiramento e moagem em um moinho planetário de bolas variando os parâmetros de tempo e velocidade de rotação. Os resíduos foram caracterizados por picnometria, DSC, área superficial específica BET, FRX, TG e DRX/Rietveld. Os resíduos com composição mineralógica de fases formadas em temperaturas mais elevadas estão associados a maior demanda de energia específica de moagem e menores índices de moabilidade. O RM apresenta composição mineralógica semelhante ao do calcário comercial e o FG pode ser uma alternativa à gipsita natural em materiais cimentícios. O RBC e RP apresentam potencial de uso como MCS em substituição às argilas naturais calcinadas, embora o RP demande maior energia durante o beneficiamento por moagem.

Abstract Despitethe increasing number of publications on residual raw materials as supplementary cementitious materials (SCM), the milling beneficiation process and its parameters have been underexplored and presented. In this context, this study aims to evaluate the milling parameters for marble, clay tile, clay brick, and phosphogypsum waste processing for recycling as SCM. The raw materials were benefitted by grinding, sieving, and milling in a planetary ball mill, varying the time and rotation speed parameters. The waste was characterised by helium gas pycnometry, DSC, BET specific surface area, XRF, TGA, and XRD/Rietveld. Waste materials in which the mineral composition of phases was formed at higher temperatures were associated with higher demands for specific milling energy and lower grindability indexes. Marble waste (MW) has a mineral composition similar to commercial limestone and phosphogypsum (PG) can be an alternative to natural gypsum in cementitious materials. Clay brick waste (CBW) and clay tile waste (CTW) have the potential to be used as SCM to replace calcined natural clays, although CTW requires higher energy during milling processes.

RESUMO O estudo dos parâmetros reológicos das pastas cimentícias pode fornecer informações importantes sobre o desempenho dos concretos frescos nos quais elas serão aplicadas. Nesse contexto, este trabalho visa estudar os efeitos da temperatura nos parâmetros reológicos de pastas cimentícias aditivadas com superplastificantes. Também é abordada a análise do efeito do tipo de cimento, bem como o estudo da ação de superplastificantes à base de policarboxilato considerando sua função e os seus teores na mistura. As pastas foram avaliadas pelo ensaio de mini-abatimento e os parâmetros de tensão de escoamento, viscosidade plástica e indicador de tixotropia foram estimados a partir do ensaio de reometria rotacional e aplicação dos modelos de fluidos de Bingham e Herschel-Bulkley. Os resultados indicaram que o aumento da temperatura levou a uma redução das tensões de escoamento, viscosidades plásticas e tixotropia das pastas. Efeito semelhante ocorreu após o incremento do teor de aditivo até a dosagem de saturação. Para as formulações com o aglomerante de maior teor de pozolana as tensões de escoamento e viscosidades plásticas foram superiores em até 80 e 70%, respectivamente. Os dados reológicos indicam que aditivos de diferentes funções (abertura, espalhamento e multifuncional), embora apresentem a mesma base, influenciam de forma distinta os parâmetros reológicos e plasticidade das pastas cimentícias.

ABSTRACT The study of the rheological parameters of the cementitious pastes can provide important information on the performance of fresh concretes in which they will be applied. In this context, this paper aims to study the effects of temperature on the rheological parameters of cementitious pastes added with superplasticizers. It is approached the analysis of the effect of type of cement in pastes rheological behavior, as well as the study of the action of superplasticizers based on polycarboxylate considering its function and its contents in the mixture. The pastes were evaluated by the mini-slump test and the parameters of yield stress, plastic viscosity and thixotropy were estimated by the rotational rheometry test and application of Bingham and Herschel-Bulkley fluid models. The results indicated that the increase in temperature led to a reduction of the yield stresses, plastic viscosities and thixotropy of pastes. A similar effect occurred after increasing the admixture content up to the saturation content. For formulations with the binder of highest content of pozzolan, the yield stress and plastic viscosities were higher by up to 80 and 70%, respectively. The rheological data indicate that admixtures of different functions (spreading, maintenance and multifunctional), although having the same base, influence in a different way the rheological parameters and plasticity of cementitious pastes.
