RESUMO Introdução: a fluência de leitura é uma medida capaz de avaliar de forma objetiva o desempenho de escolares em leitura oral. Objetivo: avaliar a utilização da fluência de leitura como um indicador de competência leitora a ser utilizado na educação inclusiva. Métodos: participaram do estudo 121 escolares do 3° ao 5° ano do ensino fundamental, destes 31 escolares do público-alvo da educação especial compuseram o grupo de interesse e 90 escolares compuseram o grupo controle. Foi definido um escore Z que permitiu a realização da análise individual do desempenho dos escolares e a identificação dos possíveis déficits nas tarefas de fluência de leitura e compreensão, foi aplicado o Test t de Student para comparação dos grupos. Resultados: houve variabilidade nos desempenhos apresentados por cada subgrupo do público-alvo da educação especial. Na comparação dos dois grupos, os resultados foram superiores para o GC em todas as variáveis. Conclusão: A diversidade encontrada dentro dos subgrupos do público-alvo da educação especial mostrou que a avaliação de fluência de leitura individual é essencial tanto para pesquisas quanto para a prática pedagógica.

ABSTRACT Introduction: reading fluency is a measure capable of objectively evaluating the performance of students in oral reading. Objective: to evaluate the use of reading fluency as an indicator of reading competence to be used in inclusive education. Methods: 121 students from the 3rd to the 5th year of elementary school participated in the study. 31 of these students from the target group of special education were in the interest group and 90 students were in the control group. A Z score was defined to allow for the individual analysis of the students’ performance and the identification of possible deficits in the tasks of fluency in reading and comprehension. The Student’s t-test was carried out to compare the groups. Results: There was variability in the performances presented by each subgroup of the target group of special education. When comparing the two groups, the results were superior for the CG in all variables. Conclusion: The diversity found within the subgroups of the target audience of special education showed that the assessment of individual reading fluency is essential for both research and pedagogical practice.

RESUMO O objetivo desse trabalho é apresentar o Programa de reabilitação fonoaudiológica em equoterapia “Passo a passo na comunicação” para tratamento de prejuízos de linguagem em crianças. O Programa foi elaborado em três etapas: análise de literatura, aplicação piloto e análise clínica. A análise da literatura foi realizada por meio da busca, leitura e discussão de artigos e livros sobre o tema publicados até 2018. No final desta fase foi elaborada a primeira versão do Programa. Essa versão foi aplicada de forma a contemplar: avaliação de linguagem dos participantes; aplicação de dez sessões; monitoramento e registro de atividades de cada sessão; reavaliação dos participantes; ajustes de técnicas e atividades. A etapa de análise clínica ocorreu após a aplicação piloto, por meio dos procedimentos: análise por três juízes, revisão da proposta pelos autores, elaboração da versão final do Programa “Passo a passo na comunicação”. O Programa contém oito módulos temáticos com 24 sessões e possui quatro pilares principais que são aplicados durante as atividades em equoterapia. Cada um dos pilares possui objetivos e estratégias específicas. Possui atividades voltadas para os aspectos formais (semânticos e morfossintáticos) e pragmáticos da linguagem, seu arcabouço teórico-prático está ancorado na gramática funcional e as estratégias são baseadas em vivências de equoterapia que possam fornecer momentos de abertura para comunicação.

ABSTRACT The objective of this paper is to present the “Step-by-step in communication” equine-assisted speech-language-hearing rehabilitation program to treat language impairment in children. The program was developed in three stages: literature analysis, pilot application, and clinical analysis. The literature was analyzed by searching, reading, and discussing articles and books on the topic, published up to 2018. After this stage, the first version of the program was developed. This version addressed: participants’ language assessment, application of 10 sessions, monitoring and record of activities in each session, participants’ reassessment, and adjustment of techniques and activities. The clinical analysis took place after the pilot application with the following procedures: analysis by three judges, revision of the approach by the authors, and development of the final version of the “Step-by-step in communication” program, comprising eight theme modules with 24 sessions, and based on four main pillars, which are applied in equine-assisted therapy activities. Each pillar has specific objectives and strategies. The activities aim at formal (semantic and morphosyntactic) and pragmatic aspects of language. Their theoretical/practical framework is grounded on functional grammar, and the strategies are based on equine-assisted therapy experiences that open the way for communication.

RESUMO: A fluência de leitura é tida como uma meta no desenvolvimento da leitura oral e pode, de forma mais rápida e objetiva, indicar a evolução do desempenho dos estudantes. A Base Nacional Comum Curricular do Brasil prevê que, entre o 3º e 5º ano do Ensino Fundamental, o escolar deve ler de forma autônoma e fluente com textualidade adequada. Assim sendo, o objetivo deste estudo é verificar se a fluência leitora pode ser utilizada como um indicador de competência com o avanço do ano letivo para os estudantes do Ensino Fundamental I. Trata-se de um estudo observacional, longitudinal e descritivo. Participaram 36 crianças matriculadas do 3º ao 5º ano do Ensino Fundamental, sendo 18 do público-alvo da Educação Especial ou contemplados pela política no Distrito Federal, Brasil. A fluência de leitura textual foi avaliada com intervalo de cinco meses com as variáveis Taxa de leitura e Acurácia. A comparação intergrupo demonstrou resultados superiores para o Grupo de Controle em ambas a variáveis, já a intragrupo indicou evolução estatisticamente significante somente para o Grupo de Interesse. Foi desenvolvido o Coeficiente de Progressão, cujos resultados mostraram evolução nas medidas de fluência de leitura. Assim, a fluência de leitura parece ser um indicador de competência de leitura para a Educação Especial.

ABSTRACT: Reading fluency is seen as a goal in the development of oral reading and can, more quickly and objectively, indicate the evolution of student performance. The National Common Curricular Base of Brazil provides that between the 3rd and 5th grade of Elementary School the student must read autonomously and fluently with adequate textuality. Thus, the objective of this study is to verify whether reading fluency can be used as a competency indicator with the advancement of the school year for Elementary School students. This is an observational, longitudinal and descriptive study. Thirty-six children enrolled from the 3rd to the 5th grade of Elementary School participated, 18 of whom were the target population of Special Education or contemplated by the policy in the Distrito Federal, Brazil. The fluency of textual reading was assessed with an interval of 5 months with the variables reading rate and accuracy. The intergroup comparison showed superior results for the Control Group in both variables, whereas the intragroup indicated a statistically significant evolution only for the Interest Group. The Progression Coefficient was developed, whose results showed an evolution in the reading fluency measures. Thus, reading fluency seems to be an indicator of reading competence for Special Education.

Objetivo Analisar e comparar o voice onset time (VOT) em falantes do português brasileiro com e sem gagueira, com foco em três momentos diferentes de discurso: fala fluente, pré-disfluência e pós-disfluência. Métodos Foram feitas gravações da fala de 20 participantes (n=10 com gagueira e n=10 sem gagueira). Os dados foram transcritos e segmentados para análise acústica e segmentos de oclusivas não vozeadas do Português Brasileiro, /p/, /t/ e /k/ foram extraídos. Os segmentos foram classificados por grupo - se foram produzidos por pessoas que gaguejam (PG) ou por pessoas que não gaguejam (PnG) - e de acordo com o contexto/ambiente de fala (ou seja, na fala fluente, na pré-disfluência, e na pós-disfluência). Os testes Friedman e Wilcoxon foram utilizados para comparação dentro dos grupos e o teste de Mann-Whitney, em comparações intergrupos. As análises estatísticas foram executadas usando SPSS 14.0, com nível de significância de α=0,05. Resultados O VOT de falantes com e sem gagueira diferiu mais no ambiente de pré-disfluência, durante o qual, falantes com gagueira apresentaram VOT significativamente mais longo do que falantes que não gaguejavam. Depois de passar por um momento de disfluência, no entanto, o VOT dos participantes com gagueira retornou a medidas semelhantes às pessoas que não gaguejavam. Conclusão Nos ambientes de pré-disfluência e pós-disfluência, as PG produzem VOT mais longos do que as PnG. Já no discurso fluente de PG, as oclusivas se comportam de forma diferente. São discutidas as implicações desses resultados para o controle motor da fala.

Purpose To analyze and compare the voice onset time (VOT) in Brazilian Portuguese speakers who stutter and those who do not, focusing on three different moments of speech: fluent, pre-dysfluent and post-dysfluent environments. Methods Twenty participants (n=10 with stuttering and n=10 without stuttering) were recorded. The data were transcribed and segmented for acoustic analysis, and it was extracted tokens of Brazilian Portuguese voiceless stops /p/, /t/ and /k/. Tokens were classified according to whether they were produced by people who stutter (PWS) or by people who do not stutter (PWnS), and according to their environment in speech (i.e., in fluent speech, pre-dysfluency, and post-dysfluency). For comparisons within groups it were used the Friedman and Wilcoxon tests, and the Mann-Whitney test was used in intergroup comparisons. Statistical analyses were executed using SPSS 14.0 with the significance level set at α=0.05. Results VOT in stuttering and non-stuttering speakers differed most in the environment of pre-dysfluencies, during which stuttering speakers show significantly longer VOT than speakers who do not stutter. After passing through a moment of dysfluency, however, stuttering speakers’ VOT returns to measures similar to non-stuttering speakers’. Conclusion In pre-dysfluent and post-dysfluent speech, PWS produces longer VOT than PWnS. In the fluent speech of PWS, the stops behave differently. The implications of these results for speech motor control are discussed.

Objetivo analisar e descrever o desempenho das habilidades dos componentes do processamento fonológico nos sujeitos com Transtorno do Déficit de Atenção e Hiperatividade (TDA/H). Métodos trata-se de estudo descritivo analítico dos dados de avaliação das habilidades do processamento fonológico de 45 sujeitos, com idade entre 7 e 16 anos, com diagnóstico multiprofissional de TDA/H. Os dados foram obtidos pela análise dos prontuários dos sujeitos avaliados pelo Laboratório de Estudo dos Transtornos de Aprendizagem (LETRA) do Hospital das Clínicas da Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG), nos anos de 2008 a 2011. Os resultados analisados incluem a prova de Consciência Fonológica proposta pela bateria de testes BELEC, prova de Nomeação Seriada Rápida (RAN) e Memória Auditiva. Duas variáveis foram consideradas nesta análise: idade e presença ou não de comorbidades associadas. O teste aplicado para caracterização da amostra foi o não paramétrico de Mann Whitney. Resultados os grupos tendem a se diferenciarem ao se analisar a variável idade, nas provas de consciência fonológica e RAN. Quando a variável comorbidade foi analisada, a consciência fonológica é a mais influenciada pela presença de comorbidades. Na habilidade de memória fonológica, sob a mesma ótica, não houve diferenças entre os grupos. Conclusão o maior déficit do processamento fonológico foi observado na habilidade de consciência fonológica, segundo as variáveis idade e comorbidade, seguido pela habilidade de acesso ao léxico, na variável idade. Já para a memória de trabalho não houve significância.

Purpose to analyze e to describe the skills’ performance of the phonological processing components in subjects with Attention Deficit - Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Methods it is a descriptive analytical study of the evaluation data of the phonological processing skills of 45 subjects, with ages between 7 and 16 years, with a multiprofessional diagnosis of ADHD. All data was obtained from the medical records of the subjects evaluated by the Laboratório de Estudo dos Transtornos de Aprendizagem (LETRA) of Hospital das Clínicas da Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG), between the years of 2008 and 2011. The analyzed results include the Phonological Awareness test, proposed by the battery of tests BELEC, the Rapid Serial Naming (RAN) test and Auditory Memory test. Two variables were considered in this analysis: the age and the presence or absence of associated comorbidities. The test used to the sample characterization was the nonparametric of Mann Whitney. Results groups tend to differentiate themselves when the age variable is analyzed, on the Phonological Awareness tests and RAN. When the comorbidity variable was analyzed, the Phonological Awareness was more influenced by the presence of comorbidities. On the Auditory Memory skills, by the same light, there were no differences between the groups. Conclusion the largest deficit in phonological processing was observed in phonological awareness skills, according to the age and comorbidity variables, followed by the lexicon’s access skills, according to the age variable. About the Working Memory, there was no significance.

OBJETIVO: examinar o papel da organização temporal do discurso na expressão das atitudes de certeza e dúvida em grupo de adultos com gagueira, comparando-a em um grupo de adultos fluentes. MÉTODO: participaram desta pesquisa 24 indivíduos, sendo 12 com gagueira (GE1 e GE2) e 12 sem gagueira (GC). Foram coletadas amostras que teve como base um corpus de 10 frases chave que foram produzidas nas formas neutra, de dúvida e de certeza, totalizando 840 enunciados. A análise acústica foi realizada por meio do programa Praat e os seguintes parâmetros foram analisados: tempos e taxas de elocução e articulação, ocorrência e duração de pausas e disfluências, duração das vogais tônica e pré-tônica e ocorrência da vogal pós-tônica. A análise estatística foi realizada por meio dos testes Kruskall Wallis e qui-quadrado, com índice de significância de 95%. RESULTADOS: a expressão da dúvida apresenta taxa de articulação mais baixa no grupo controle, seguida da forma neutra e de certeza, com diferenças estatisticamente significantes. Ainda no grupo controle, foi observado presença de pausas e disfluências somente na expressão de dúvida. No grupo experimental, a maior diferença encontrada foi na duração da vogal da sílaba tônica. CONCLUSÃO: de uma forma geral, o GC variou mais sua organização temporal a fim de expressar as atitudes. No entanto, é possível observar também uma tendência semelhante no grupo de pessoas com gagueira. Quanto à velocidade de fala, ao retirar as pausas e as disfluências, vemos que tanto GE1 quanto GE2 diferenciam a certeza, articulando cada sílaba de forma mais rápida.

PURPOSE: to examine the role of speech temporal organization on the expression as for the attitudes of certainty and doubt in the group of adults who stutter, comparing such analysis with a group of speech-fluent adults. METHOD: we analyzed 24 individuals, 12 with stuttering (SG1 and SG2) and 12 without stuttering (CG). Samples were collected with a corpus of 10 key phrases that were produced in the neutral form, expressing doubt and certainty, totaling 840 utterances. The acoustic analysis was performed using Praat and the following parameters were analyzed: time and speech rate and articulation, presence and duration of pauses and disfluencies, duration of vowels in pre-tonic and tonic syllables and occurrence of post-tonic vowel. Statistical analysis was performed by using Kruskall Wallis and chi-square tests, with a significance level of 95%. RESULTS: the expression of doubt has the lowest rate of articulation in the control group, followed by neutral and certainty expressions, with statistically significant differences. Also in the control group, there was presence of pauses and disfluencies only in the expression of doubt. In the experimental group, the largest difference was found in the vowel duration of the stressed syllable. CONCLUSION: generally speaking, CG varied more its temporal organization in order to express attitudes. However, it is also possible to note a trend in the group of people who stutter. As for the speech rate, by removing the pauses and disfluencies, we see that both GE1 and GE2 differentiate certainty, faster articulating each syllable.

O objetivo deste estudo foi verificar como falantes fluentes do português brasileiro percebem a expressão das atitudes de certeza e dúvida em falantes com gagueira. Para tanto, foram coletados dados em dois momentos: 1. material de fala e 2. teste perceptivo. Dois grupos participaram do primeiro momento, sendo 12 indivíduos com gagueira (GE) e 12 sem (GC). Esses participantes gravaram 2 frases em cada uma das três formas estudadas (neutra, expressão de dúvida e expressão de certeza). Para teste perceptivo participaram 60 juízes: 30 julgaram os enunciados do GC e 30 julgaram os enunciados do GE. Foram contabilizadas 1440 respostas para o GC e 1080 respostas para o GE. Foi utilizado o teste de uma afirmativa sobre uma e duas proporções, com significância de 95%. Os resultados mostraram diferença estatisticamente significativa entre os resultados dos juízes do GC e os juízes do GE: os juízes reconhecem melhor as atitudes expressas pelas pessoas sem gagueira do que aquelas expressas pelas pessoas com gagueira.

The purpose of this study is to verify how fluent speakers of Brazilian Portuguese perceive the expression of certainty and doubt attitudes on stutterers' speech. For such, data was collected in two moments: 1. speech material; and 2. perceptive test. Two groups participated in the first moment: 12 stuttering people (EG) and 12 non-stuttering people (CG). These participants recorded two utterances in each of the three forms studied (neutral, certainty and doubt). For the perceptive test, 60 judges have participated: 30 judged CG's utterances and 30 judged EG's utterances. 1,440 responses were recorded for CG and 1,080 for EG. The statistical test of an affirmative over one and two proportions was used, with 95% significance. The results showed a statistically significant difference between the results of CG and EG judges: judges recognize attitudes expressed by non-stuttering people better than those expressed by stuttering ones.
