RESUMO Esta pesquisa avaliou a compactação de um Nitossolo Bruno causada por diferentes intensidades de tráfego do feller direcional e skidder na colheita de madeira em um povoamento de Pinus taeda. Os dados foram coletados em uma empresa florestal localizada no estado do Paraná, Brasil. O procedimento de amostragem foi realizado pela instalação de quatro blocos (30 m × 15 m) com parcelas subdivididas e os tratamentos representados pela combinação de cinco simulações de tráfego das máquinas feller direcional e skidder, aplicadas nas parcelas em quatro profundidades do solo e em subparcelas. A compactação foi avaliada pela densidade do solo, porosidade total, microporosidade e macroporosidade. Os dados foram submetidos à análise de variância e as médias comparadas pelo teste de Tukey ao nível de 5% de significância. Foram ainda ajustadas equações de regressão linear para representar a relação entre a intensidade do tráfego, profundidade e a variável considerada. Os resultados mostraram que tráfego das máquinas provocou maior compactação nas camadas superficiais do solo, resultando em incrementos na densidade do solo na ordem de 14,6% em relação à condição sem tráfego de máquinas. O aumento da intensidade de tráfego do skidder contribuiu com a redução de 62,5% e 53,8% nos valores de macroporosidade para as profundidades de 0-10 e 10-20 cm, respectivamente. A atividade de arraste das árvores com o trator skidder contribuiu para o aumento da compactação do solo, acarretada pelas diversas passadas da máquina em uma única linha.

ABSTRACT This study evaluated the compaction of a Bruno Nitisol caused by traffic intensities by a directional feller and skidder used to wood harvesting in a Pinus taeda stand. Data were collected at a forest company located in Parana State, Brazil. Samples were performed using an installation of four blocks (30 × 15 m) with subdivided plots and the treatments included a combination of five traffic simulations of directional feller and skidder machines, with the simulations performed in the plots at four soil depths, referred to as subplots. Compaction was evaluated by soil density, total porosity, microporosity, and macroporosity. The data were submitted to analysis of variance and the means were compared with the Tukey test at a 5% level of significance. Linear regression equations were also adjusted to represent the relation between traffic intensity, depth, and the variable of interest. The results showed that machine traffic caused higher compaction of the superficial soil layers, resulting in a 14.6% increase in soil density compared to the soil subjected to no machine traffic. The increase in traffic intensity of the skidder tractor reduced macroporosity by 62.5% and 53.8% at depths of 0-10 and 10-20 cm, respectively. Dragging of the logs by the skidder tractor increased soil compaction due to the several trips by the machine in a single line.

ABSTRACT The objective of this work was to evaluate the penetration resistance (PR) of a red-yellow latosol submitted to two subsoiling depths for implanting a forest plantation. The subsoiling was evaluated at 40 cm (S-40) and 50 cm (S-50) of depth by determining the soil moisture and soil density, while soil PR was evaluated before and after subsoiling at five points transversely to the subsoiling line (furrow) up to a depth of 60 cm using an electronic penetrometer. The soil density in both treatments was not altered by soil management. Before soil preparation, the soil presented PR values above the critical limit in the 0 cm to 30 cm layers, and after subsoiling a reduction in those values was verified at depth. It can be concluded that the 50 cm (S-50) subsoiling depth is the most suitable for soil preparation in a forest stand implantation.

Resumo: O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a influência de manejos de azevém (Lolium multiflorum) sobre as propriedades físicas de um Latossolo Bruno e sobre a produção de milho e de azevém em sucessão ao milho. O experimento foi realizado em blocos ao acaso, com três tratamentos e três repetições, em que os tratamentos foram os diferentes manejos do azevém, em sistema plantio direto, para silagem, cobertura do solo e pastejo. Após nove anos de manejo, coletaram-se amostras a 0,00-0,05, 0,05-0,10, 0,10-0,20 e 0,20-0,30 m de profundidade do solo, para a determinação dos seguintes atributos: textura, carbono orgânico total, densidade, macroporosidade, microporosidade, porosidade total e resistência à penetração de raízes. O índice de estabilidade estrutural foi estimado a partir dos dados de textura e carbono orgânico total. A densidade máxima do solo e o ponto de murcha permanente também foram estimados a partir de funções de pedotransferência. As produtividades de massa de matéria seca do milho e do azevém foram determinadas a partir da colheita na parcela. O conteúdo de carbono orgânico total aumentou com o aumento da profundidade. Os manejos do azevém em plantio direto, em sucessão ao milho, não influenciam os atributos físicos do Latossolo Bruno e mantêm altas as produtividades de milho e de azevém.

Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate the influence of ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum) managements on the physical properties of a Haplohumox, and on the yields of corn and of ryegrass cultivated in succession to corn. The experiment was carried out in a randomized complete block design, with three treatments and three replicates, in which treatments were the different managements of ryegrass under no-tillage for silage, soil cover, and grazing. After nine years of management, samples were collected at 0.00-0.05, 0.05-0.10, 0.10-0.20, and 0.20-0.30-m soil depths, to determine the following soil properties: texture, total organic carbon, soil bulk density, macroporosity, microporosity, total porosity, and resistance to root penetration. The index of structural stability was estimated from texture and total organic carbon data. Maximum soil bulk density and permanent wilting point were also estimated from pedotransfer functions. Corn and ryegrass dry matter yields were determined from plants harvested inside the plot area. Total organic carbon content increased as depth increased. The ryegrass managements in no-tillage system, in succession to corn, does not influence the soil physical properties of a Haplohumox, and maintains high corn and ryegrass yields.

Sistemas conservacionistas em pomares de laranja podem aumentar a capacidade de suporte de carga do solo minimizando os seus riscos de compactação. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a capacidade de suporte de carga por meio da pressão de preconsolidação e sua dependência a conteúdo de água, densidade e carbono orgânico de um Argissolo Vermelho distrófico latossólico, após 18 anos de implantação de plantas de cobertura permanentes nas entrelinhas de um pomar de laranja. O delineamento experimental foi de blocos ao acaso, com três repetições. Foram estudados três tratamentos de manejo por meio de roçadas nas entrelinhas do pomar, desde o plantio do pomar em 1993: gramínea Paspalum notatum, leguminosa Arachis pintoi e vegetação espontânea. Cento e oito amostras indeformadas de solo foram coletadas em 2011 sob o rodado e entrerrodado das máquinas nas estrelinhas do pomar com textura arenosa nas camadas de 0,00-0,10 m (87 g kg-1 de argila) e 0,10-0,20 m (122 g kg-1 de argila). Determinaram-se as pressões de preconsolidação das curvas de compressão do solo (25, 50, 100, 200, 400, 800 e 1.600 kPa) em conteúdos de água sob três potenciais (-80, -330 e -1.000 hPa), a densidade do solo e o teor de carbono orgânico do solo. A pressão de preconsolidação não foi dependente do conteúdo de água, da densidade do solo e do teor de carbono orgânico do solo. A pressão de preconsolidação sob o rodado na camada de 0,00-0,10 m foi menor nos tratamentos leguminosa e vegetação espontânea. A manutenção permanente da gramínea manejada com roçadas nas entrelinhas do pomar de laranja proporcionou maior capacidade de suporte de carga do solo sob o rodado na camada superficial arenosa.

Conservation tillage systems in orange groves can increase soil load-bearing capacity minimizing their risks of soil compaction. The objective of this study was to evaluate load-bearing capacity through preconsolidation pressure and its dependence on water content, bulk density, and organic carbon of a Typic Paleudult soil 18 years after setting up permanent plant cover between the rows of an orange grove. A randomized block experimental design was used, with three replications. Three groundcover treatments subjected to mowing between the rows of the grove, as of establishment of the orange grove in 1993, were studied: Paspalum notatum grass, the Arachis pintoi legume, and spontaneous vegetation. One hundred and eight undisturbed soil samples were collected in 2011 at the 0.00-0.10 m (87 g kg-1 clay) and 0.10-0.20 m (122 g kg-1 clay) depths under and between the wheel tracks of the machines between the rows of the orange grove consisting of sandy clay texture soil. Preconsolidation pressure was not dependent on soil water content, bulk density, or organic carbon content. Preconsolidation pressure from soil compression curves (25; 50; 100; 200; 400; 800; and 1,600 kPa) at water content under three potentials (-80; -330; and 1,000 hPa), soil bulk density, and soil organic carbon were determined. The preconsolidation pressure under the wheel tracks between the orange rows in the 0.00-0.10 m layer was lower in the legume and spontaneous vegetation treatments. Ongoing maintenance of the grass managed through mowing between the rows of the orange grove led to greater soil load-bearing capacity under the wheel tracks in the sandy surface layer.
