Resumo: O estudo da fadiga em ambiente subaquático é dificultado pois envolve diversas variáveis, muitas delas estão relacionadas à interação do material com o meio em que está submetido. Em testes de fadiga em ambiente aquoso foi constatado o aparecimento de bolhas que se desprendem da região da ponta da trinca durante o ensaio, porém, até o momento a literatura não havia relatado esse fenômeno. Buscando a repetibilidade, este trabalho apresenta parâmetros de ensaio que promovam o desprendimento de bolhas, facilitando seu estudo e compreensão. Corpos de prova do tipo C(T) fabricados em aço ASTM A36 foram ensaiados em ambiente subaquático sob uma variação de carga constante (ΔP) de 5kN e frequência de 30Hz. Os desprendimentos das bolhas durante os ensaios foram registrados com uma câmera de alta velocidade (captura de 1000fps). Os resultados indicam que as primeiras bolhas desprendidas durante o ensaio são menores e aumentam de volume com o aumento do comprimento da trinca, chegando a um diâmetro médio máximo e após isso ocorre diminuição e supressão do fenômeno ao se aproximar do final do ensaio. A ocorrência foi associada à fragilização por hidrogênio, com existência já comprovada nesse tipo de ensaio

Abstract: The study of fatigue in an underwater environment is difficult because it involves several variables, many of them are related to the interaction of the material with the environment in which it is submitted. In fatigue tests in an aqueous environment, the appearance of bubbles that detach from the crack tip region during the test was observed, however, until now the literature had not reported this phenomenon. Seeking repeatability, this work presents test parameters that promote the detachment of bubbles, facilitating their study and understanding. Type C(T) specimens made of ASTM A36 steel were tested in an underwater environment under a constant load variation (ΔP) of 5kN and frequency of 30Hz. The detachments of the bubbles during the tests were recorded with a high-speed camera (capture of 1000fps). The results indicate that the first bubbles released during the test are smaller and increase in volume with increasing crack length, reaching a maximum average diameter and after that, there is a decrease and suppression of the phenomenon when approaching the end of the test. The occurrence was associated with hydrogen embrittlement, with proven existence in this type of test

Resumo: A Soldagem Subaquática Molhada com Eletrodo Revestido (SMER) tem sido vastamente utilizada devido ao seu baixo custo em relação a outros processos aplicados debaixo d'água e por alcançar resultados de boa qualidade. Um dos principais problemas encontrados é a perda de ductilidade na Zona Termicamente Afetada (ZTA) devido ao rápido resfriamento. Uma opção para a redução da dureza e consequente aumento da ductilidade é a aplicação de um Tratamento Térmico Pós-Soldagem (TTPS). Entretanto, sua utilização por vezes se torna impraticável no ambiente subaquático. Uma alternativa é a utilização do próprio calor proveniente de passes subsequentes, promovendo o revenimento de regiões endurecidas (técnica do passe de revenimento). Neste trabalho foi estudado o efeito do esmerilhamento do cordão de solda após cada passe, visando otimizar o calor de passes subsequentes e controlar a dureza da ZTA no processo de soldagem molhada. Todas as soldas foram realizadas em um tanque hiperbárico simulando a profundidade de 10 m. Os resultados demonstraram que quando utilizada a técnica do esmerilhamento, o calor do passe subsequente é melhor utilizado e o revenimento promove o amaciamento de toda a extensão da ZTA, alcançando menores valores de dureza em relação ao processo convencional e dentro dos limites estabelecidos por normas reguladoras.

Abstract: Wet Welding with Coated Electrode (UWW-SMAW) has been widely used due to its low cost in relation to other processes applied underwater and for achieving good quality results. One of the main problems is loss of ductility in the Heat-Affected Zone (HAZ) due to the rapid cooling. An option to reduce hardness and consequent increase in ductility is the application of a Post Welding Heat Treatment (PWHT). However, its use becomes impractical in an underwater environment. An alternative is the use of the heat from subsequent passes, promoting tempering of hardened regions (temper bead technique). In this work, the effect of grinding the weld bead after each pass was studied in order to optimize the heat of subsequent passes and to control the hardness of the HAZ in the wet welding process. All welds were carried out in a hyperbaric tank simulating a depth of 10 m. The results showed that when the grinding technique is used, the heat of the subsequent pass is better used and the tempering promotes the softening of the entire length of the HAZ, reaching lower hardness values in relation to the conventional process and within the limits established by regulatory standards.

Resumo Neste trabalho, o efeito da adição de Nb na sensitização e corrosão por pite de aço inoxidável ferrítico AISI 430 submetido à soldagem TIG foi investigado por caracterização microestrutural e técnicas eletroquímicas. As três regiões distintas do processo de soldagem, zona fundida, zona termicamente afetada e metal de base do aço AISI 430 com e sem Nb foram avaliadas. O grau de sensitização foi medido por reativação potenciodinâmica eletroquímica de “double loop” e a corrosão por pite foi estudada por testes de polarização potenciostática. As análises microestruturais revelaram uma fase martensítica na zona fundida e zona termicamente afetada do AISI 430 não estabilizado. Os estudos eletroquímicos mostraram que o maior grau de sensitização e o menor potencial de pite estão na zona fundida do aço sem adição de Nb.

Abstract In this work, the effect of Nb addition on sensitization and pitting corrosion of welded AISI 430 ferritic stainless steel subjected to autogenous GTAW was investigated by microstructural characterization and electrochemical techniques. The three distinct regions of welding process, weld metal, heat affected zone and base metal of AISI 430 steel with and without Nb were evaluated. The degree of sensitization was measured by double loop electrochemical potentiodynamic reactivation and pitting corrosion was studied by potentiostatic polarization test. The microstructural analyses reported martensite network in the weld metal and heat affected zone of AISI 430 non stabilized. The electrochemical studies revealed that the highest degree of sensitization and the lowest pitting potential are in the weld metal of AISI 430 without Nb.
