Memristors (abbreviation of memory and resistor), introduced as the fourth fundamental electrical circuit element, remember the electric charge that flowed through it. These nonlinear elements are considered as a class of two terminal resistive devices and offers a lot of possible applications in various areas. In this article, we review the dynamical behaviour of some electrical circuits with memristors. Initially, we show that a simple circuit with a capacitor and an inductor connected to a memristor exhibits periodic and chaotic attractors. After that, we show that the known Chua circuit, with a nonlinear resistance, can generate bifurcations and chaos. Substituting the nonlinear resistance by a memristor, the modified Chua circuit exhibits coexistence of attractors. Another known circuit, the Colpitts, is made of a combination of capacitors and inductors containing a bipolar junction transistor. Resumen Este artículo presenta las tablas de vida del mercado de seguros privados brasileño, BR-EMS 2021. Los datos, obtenidos de 23 grupos de seguros a lo largo de 15 años, totalizando 3,5 mil millones de registros, fueron corregidos usando una red neuronal con dos capas ocultas. Mediante la inferencia bayesiana para estimar los parámetros bajo la ley de mortalidad de Heligman-Pollard, las tablas obtenidas muestran que la población asegurada tiene tasas de mortalidad más bajas que la población general brasileña e incluso más bajas que las poblaciones nacionales de países desarrollados, como los Estados Unidos de Norteamérica. Además de la diferencia de género esperada en las tasas de mortalidad, hay una clara distinción entre las tablas de grupos de cobertura de riesgo y cobertura de sobrevivientes. Abstract This article presents the Brazilian private insurance market’s actuarial life tables, BR- EMS 2021. Using Bayesian inference on the parameters of the Heligman- Pollard law of mortality and data from 23 insurance groups over 15 years, totaling 3.5 billion registers, the data were corrected through a two hidden-layer neural network. The resulting tables show that the insured population exhibits lower mortality rates than the general Brazilian population, even lower than the national populations of well-developed countries such as the USA. Moreover, besides the expected gender gap in mortality rates, there is a clear distance between the death and survivorship insurance coverage groups. Resumo Este artigo apresenta as tábuas de vida do mercado de seguros privados brasileiro, BR-EMS 2021. Os dados obtidos de 23 grupos seguradores ao longo de 15 anos, totalizando 3,5 bilhões de registros, foram corrigidos por meio de rede neural com duas camadas ocultas. Usando a inferência bayesiana para estimar os parâmetros sob a lei de mortalidade Heligman-Pollard, as tábuas obtidas mostram que a população segurada apresenta probabilidades de morte mais baixas do que a população brasileira em geral e até mesmo em relação a populações nacionais de países desenvolvidos, como os EUA. RESUMO Esse artigo discorre sobre a difusão da pandemia de COVID-19 no Estado do Pará, na Amazônia brasileira, levando em conta os fatores relativos à rede urbana. O seu objetivo principal consiste em analisar as implicações das propriedades da rede urbana do Estado do Pará, especialmente em relação à condição e disposição dos serviços de saúde, na dinâmica da COVID-19 no território paraense. Utilizando-se de levantamentos bibliográficos e documentais, constatou-se que a disseminação da patologia tem obedecido à lógica da rede urbana, atingindo primeiramente os seus estratos superiores e depois chegando aos centros locais, sendo potencializada pelas desigualdades e precariedades características das cidades paraenses. Desse modo, as cidades de maior expressão na rede urbana têm apresentado números mais elevados de casos de infecção e de morte, mas também possuem infraestruturas de saúde mais significativas se comparadas àquelas disponíveis nas cidades de estratos inferiores da rede urbana, que, quando consideradas em conjunto, aparecem como fortemente afetadas pela pandemia, porém com condições mínimas de responder ao avanço da patologia, uma vez depondo de serviços de saúde extremamente escassos e precários. A solução encontrada é o deslocamento para os centros maiores, o que sobrecarrega os serviços destes e, por conseguinte, expõe tanto as desigualdades na distribuição dos serviços de saúde na rede urbana quanto a sua precariedade.

ABSTRACT This article discusses the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in the State of Pará, in the Brazilian Amazon, taking about the factors related to the urban network. Its main objective is to analyze the implications of the properties of the urban network of the State of Pará, especially in relation to the condition and disposition of health services, in the dynamics of COVID-19 in the territory of Pará. Using bibliographic and documentary surveys, it was found that the dissemination of the pathology has obeyed the logic of the urban network, first reaching its upper strata and then reaching the local centers, being enhanced by the inequalities and precariousness characteristic of the cities of Pará. Thus, the cities with greatest expression in urban network has presented high numbers of infection’s cases and deaths, but also have health infrastructure most significant if compared to those available into the cities with bottom layer of urban network, which, when considered together, turn up strongly affected by pandemic, however in minimal conditions to answer to the advance of pathology, once lay down of health services extremely scant and precarious. The solutions found is the displacement to the large centers, which overload these services and, consequently, expose as unequal distribution of urban network healthy service as its precariousness.

RESUMO Neste trabalho temos por objetivo analisar representações leitoras compartilhadas por estudantes da Escola Agrícola de Jundiaí/Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, depreendidas a partir de entrevista semiestruturada, de modo a refletir acerca das injunções sociais, culturais, históricas que determinam as formas legítimas de ser e de se apresentar como leitor, que se encontram conservadas, eventualmente questionadas, no que enunciam esses jovens em relação a si, como bons ou não tão bons leitores, e no que enunciam, de modo geral, acerca da leitura. Nesta análise, de base qualitativa, apoiamo-nos em princípios da Análise de discurso, da História Cultural e dos Novos Estudos sobre Letramento. Entre as constatações, vimos que embora sejam leitores nem todos assim se reconhecem. A melhor compreensão do funcionamento desses discursos sobre a leitura, no âmbito do ensino, permite lidar com seu impacto sobre os processos de identificação desses jovens com essa prática, logo, com seu exercício.

Resumo Anastrepha fraterculus a mosca-das-frutas-sul-americana, é uma importante praga em pomares de macieira do sul do Brasil, principalmente em pequenas propriedades, onde costuma causar perda total da safra. Experimentos foram conduzidos com objetivo de avaliar, por quatro safras (2009/2010, 2010/2011, 2012/2013 e 2013/2014) em pomares de maçã orgânica e convencional no sul do Brasil, a formulação de isca tóxica ANAMED® (óleos e ceras 49,0% + atrativo M7 24,2% + inseticida spinosad 0,1%) quanto à capacidade de reduzir a população da espécie. As aplicações da ANAMED começaram após o raleio, quando as frutas estavam com diâmetro médio de 20 mm, sendo reaplicada a cada 14 dias até a colheita. ANAMED foi pulverizado na vegetação de borda dos pomares a uma taxa de 1,0 kg.ha-1. Moscas-da-frutas foram monitoradas semanalmente usando armadilhas McPhail iscadas com levedura Torula®. Frutos danificados foram avaliados sete dias antes da colheita. As aplicações de iscas tóxicas ANAMED reduziu a população de adultos de moscas-das-frutas e danos em frutos em todas as safras, exceto no primeiro ano de avaliação (2009/2010). Em conclusão, o uso sequencial da isca tóxica ANAMED ao longo do tempo reduziu significativamente as populações de A. fraterculus e a porcentagem de frutos danificados por esta praga.

Abstract Anastrepha fraterculus the South American fruit fly, is an important insect pest in apple orchards of southern Brazil, especially in small farms, where it often causes total crop loss. Experiments were conducted to evaluate, during four crop seasons (2009/2010, 2010/2011, 2012/2013, and 2013/2014) in organic and conventional apple orchards in southern Brazil, the toxic bait formulation ANAMED™ (oils and waxes 49.0% + M7 attractant 24.2% + spinosad insecticide 0.1%) for its capacity to reduce the South American fruit fly population. ANAMED applications started after apples with an average diameter of 20 mm had been thinned, and they were made every 14 days until harvest. ANAMED was sprayed on non-crop vegetation growing on the edges of the orchards at a rate of 1.0 kg.ha-1. Adult fruit flies were monitored weekly using McPhail traps baited with Torula™ yeast. Injured fruits were evaluated seven days before harvest. ANAMED reduced the adult population of trapped fruit flies captured in all crop seasons and the injured fruit, except for the first year of evaluation (2009/2010). In conclusion, the sequential use of ANAMED toxic bait over time significantly reduced adult populations of A. fraterculus and the percentage of fruits injured by this pest.

RESUMO Objetivo: analisar a percepção de trabalhadores e gestores sobre a rede de atenção psicossocial em município de médio porte do interior de Minas Gerais. Método: estudo qualitativo, descritivo e exploratório envolvendo doze participantes dos diferentes pontos da rede. As entrevistas semiestruturadas foram analisadas com o referencial do estruturalismo construcionista de Pierre Bourdieu. Resultados: as ações oferecidas pelos serviços estavam pautadas na perspectiva de ressocialização, acolhimento, atendimento grupal, multiprofissional, bem como abordagens de redução de danos, recreação e organização do cotidiano e se configuraram em recursos/capitais da rede. Foram identificadas tensões no acolhimento das famílias e nas relações entre famílias e usuários, além do preconceito em relação à pessoa com transtorno mental. Considerações finais: os agentes sociais mostraram-se dispostos a contribuir em processos de mudanças para superar o foco nas especialidades, a falta de capacitação de algumas equipes, falta de infraestrutura e de alguns dispositivos, sobretudo aqueles relacionados ao lazer e convivência.

Method: qualitative, descriptive and exploratory study involving twelve participants from different points of the network. The semi-structured interviews were analyzed in the light of Pierre Bourdieu’s framework of constructionist structuralism. Results: the actions offered by the services were based on the perspectives of resocialization, user embracement, group and multiprofessional care, and on approaches to harm reduction, recreation and daily organization. These were configured as the network resources/capital. Tensions were identified in family embracement and in relationships between families and users, as well as in the prejudice towards people with mental disorders. Final considerations: the social agents were willing to contribute to processes of change in order to overcome the focus on specialties, the lack of training of some teams, lack of infrastructure and of some components, especially those related to leisure and community life.

Resumo: Projetos de infraestrutura e expansão agrícola estão cada vez mais ameaçando a conservação florestal no estado do Pará (Brasil). Assim, torna-se necessário abordar as implicações dessas atividades no complexo sistema sócio ecológico da Amazônia, considerando aspectos materiais e não materiais das Contribuições da Natureza para as Pessoas (NCP).Vários estudos desenvolveram cenários para o futuro da floresta Amazônica, porém poucos foram aqueles focados em discutir futuros positivos, derivados da aplicação de políticas e de intervenções baseadas em estratégias de conservação e de sustentabilidade. Neste trabalho buscamos entender os principais fatores determinantes da mudança na cobertura florestal no estado do Pará, de forma a produzir cenários positivos para o futuro da floresta amazônica nesse estado. A partir da estrutura conceitual proposta pela Plataforma Intergovernamental sobre Biodiversidade e Serviços Ecossistêmicos (IPBES) identificamos as principais pressões diretas e indiretas que influenciam na perda de floresta no estado, e os articulamos em um modelo conceitual. As pressões diretas identificadas foram: (i) construção de estradas; (ii) degradação florestal; (iii) projetos para construção de hidrelétricas; (iv) expansão urbana; (v) expansão da agricultura e da pecuária; (vi) ocupação de terras rurais; (vii) mineração; (viii) mudanças climáticas. As pressões indiretas identificadas foram: (i) demanda por energia; (ii) crescimento populacional; (iii) preços da terra; (iv) demanda por commodities; (v) hábitos de consumo. Assim, evidenciamos a importância do desenvolvimento de estratégias de conservação nas áreas de fronteiras de desmatamento devido à alta demanda e oferta por Contribuições da Natureza para as Pessoas (NCPs). Foram propostas políticas para influenciar mudança no gerenciamento da terra e nos hábitos de consumo de forma a abordar os principais fatores de mudança da cobertura florestal no estado. Por fim, nós construímos cenários futuros positivos que emergiriam da aplicação de políticas e ações voltadas para sustentabilidade da natureza e dos serviços ecossistêmicos. Com base em nossa avaliação, enfatizamos a importância do aprendizado social para que possam ser discutidos os caminhos que levam a futuros positivos, que consideram a integridade e o desenvolvimento tanto dos sistemas sociais quanto dos sistemas ecológicos..

Abstract: Infrastructure projects and agriculture expansion are increasingly threatening forest conservation in Pará state (Brazil). It becomes necessary to address the implications of these activities on the Amazon complex socio-ecological system, considering both material and non-material aspects of Nature´s Contributions to People (NCP). Multiple studies developed future scenarios for the Amazon, but only a few have focused on discussing positive futures derived from policies and interventions based on conservation and human well-being. Here, we aim at understanding the drivers of forest cover change to produce positive scenarios for the future of the Amazon forest in Pará state. By using the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) conceptual framework, we identified as direct drivers of forest cover change: (i) roads construction; (ii) forest degradation; (iii) hydropower projects; (iv) urban expansion; (v) agriculture and pasture expansion; (vi) rural land occupation; (vii) mining; (viii) climate change. As indirect drivers we identified: (i) energy demand; (ii) population growth; (iii) land prices; (iv) commodity demand; (v) consumption behavior. The development of conservation strategies in the borders of deforested areas is needed given the high demand for Nature´s Contributions to People supply. We also propose policies to address the main drivers of forest cover change, influencing land management and consumption behavior in the state. At last, we envision future positive scenarios that would emerge from policy applications and sustainable actions. Based on our study, we discuss the importance of social learning for developing pathways leading to positive futures that consider the integrity and development of both ecological and social systems.

Resumo O maracujá-doce (Passiflora alata Curtis) produz frutos comercializados para consumo in natura com aroma agradável, baixa acidez e elevados teores de sólidos solúveis totais. Objetivou-se com este trabalho avaliar aspectos físico-químicos de frutos obtidos dos diferentes genótipos de P. alata. Foram avaliados os frutos de 14 genótipos previamente selecionados. Avaliaram-se o rendimento de polpa com e sem sementes, a composição química, teores de potássio e de sódio, pH, acidez total titulável, teor de sólidos solúveis totais, ratio, teores de compostos fenólicos e de flavonoides e cor. O experimento foi delineado em blocos casualizados (DBC) com quatro repetições. Foi realizada análise de variância e posteriormente teste de Scott-Knott, a 5% de probabilidade. Os genótipos 2, 5, 6, 7, 11, 13 e 14 se destacaram pelos maiores valores de ratio, sendo superiores a 11,0. Por outro lado, os genótipos 2, 3, 5, 7, 8, 9, 11, 12 e 13 apresentaram rendimento de polpa com semente acima de 18,0%. No que se refere aos compostos bioativos, destacaram-se os genótipos 1 e 7, em função dos teores de compostos fenólicos e de flavonoides, respectivamente. Os genótipos, obtidos a partir das seleções, demonstram a alta variabilidade na composição química da polpa e no conjunto de aspectos físicos e químicos do maracujá-doce.

Abstract Sweet passion fruit (Passiflora alata Curtis) produce fruits that are marketed for in natura consumption with pleasant aroma, low acidity and high soluble solids content. The objective of this work was to evaluate the physicochemical aspects of fruits obtained from different genotypes of P. alata. Fruits of 14 previously selected genotypes were evaluated. The pulp yield with and without seeds, chemical composition, potassium and sodium contents, pH, total titratable acidity, total soluble solids content, ratio, total phenolic and flavonoid contents and color were evaluated. The experiment was a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with four replicates. The variance analysis and the Scott-Knott test were performed at 5% probability. The genotypes 2, 5, 6, 7, 11, 13 and 14 were highlighted by the highest ratio values, being higher than 11.0. On the other hand, genotypes 2, 3, 5, 7, 8, 9, 11, 12 and 13 presented pulp yield with seed higher than 18.0%. As regards bioactive compounds, genotypes 1 and 7 were highlighted, as a function of the total phenolic and flavonoid contents, respectively. The genotypes, obtained from the selections, demonstrate the high variability in the chemical composition of the pulp and in the physical and chemical aspects of sweet passion fruit.

Considering this, the present study reports the purification and characterization of a Kunitz-type peptide present in the Dendroaspis polylepis venom as a simultaneous inhibitor of elastase-1 and cathepsin L. Methods: The low molecular weight pool from D. polylepis venom was fractionated in reverse phase HPLC and all peaks were tested in fluorimetric assays. The selected fraction that presented inhibitory activity over both proteases was submitted to mass spectrometry analysis, and the obtained sequence was determined as a Kunitz-type serine protease inhibitor homolog dendrotoxin I. The molecular docking of the Kunitz peptide on the elastase was carried out in the program Z-DOCK, and the program RosettaDock was used to add hydrogens to the models, which were re-ranked using ZRANK program. Results: The fraction containing the Kunitz molecule presented similar inhibition of both elastase-1 and cathepsin L. This Kunitz-type peptide was characterized as an uncompetitive inhibitor for elastase-1, presenting an inhibition constant (Ki) of 8 μM. The docking analysis led us to synthesize two peptides: PEP1, which was substrate for both elastase-1 and cathepsin L, and PEP2, a 30-mer cyclic peptide, which showed to be a cathepsin L competitive inhibitor, with a Ki of 1.96 µM, and an elastase-1 substrate. Conclusion: This work describes a Kunitz-type peptide toxin presenting inhibitory potential over serine and cysteine proteases, and this could contribute to further understand the envenomation process by D. polylepis. In addition, the PEP2 inhibits the cathepsin L activity with a low inhibition constant.

Resumo As regiões do meio-oeste do Estado de Santa Catarina possuem grande diversidade de essências florestais com aplicação medicinal, no entanto, muitos desses recursos são mal explorados ou explorados de forma extrativista. Esta pesquisa teve como objetivo avaliar os efeitos da cobertura do dossel em sistemas agroflorestais no desenvolvimento e produção de compostos secundários em espinheira-santa (Maytenus ilicifolia) e erva-mate (Ilex paraguariensis). Duas áreas experimentais foram plantadas seguindo o mesmo espaçamento e arranjo de plantas. Blocos experimentais foram estabelecidos pela poda das plantas pioneiras, com três níveis variáveis de cobertura (0-20 %, 20-40 % e 40-60 %). As plantas de espinheira-santa e erva mate foram monitoradas quanto ao desenvolvimento e as partes vegetativas comercializáveis colhidas, processadas e preparados extratos aquosos para análise de compostos secundários. A erva-mate mostrou a maior produção de biomassa comercializável sob maior cobertura. Por outro lado, a biossíntese do composto secundário teobromina foi maior na cobertura 0-20 %, enquanto o ácido clorogênico e a cafeína foram maiores na cobertura 40-60 %. Espinheira-santa não mostrou diferença no desenvolvimento ou produção entre os tratamentos e a produção de fenóis foi menor em cobertura acima de 40 %.

Abstract The Midwest regions of Santa Catarina state, in Brazil, include a great diversity of forest essences with medicinal application; however, many of these resources are poorly exploited or managed in an extractive manner. This research aimed to assess the effects of canopy cover in agroforestry systems on development and production of secondary composites of espinheira-santa (Maytenus ilicifolia) and yerba mate (Ilex paraguariensis). Two experimental areas were planted following the same spacing and arrangement for the plants. Experimental blocks were set up by pruning the pioneer plants, with three variable levels of canopy cover (0-20 %, 20-40 % and 40-60 %). Plants of espinheira-santa and yerba mate were monitored for development and their marketable vegetative parts were harvested, processed and aqueous extracts were prepared for the analysis of presence of secondary compounds. The yerba mate showed the highest production of marketable biomass under high cover. By contrast, the biosynthesis of the secondary compound, theobromine, was greater in the lowest cover, while chlorogenic acid and caffeine were higher in the cover (40-60 %). Espinheira-santa showed no difference in either development or yield among the assessment treatments and, the production of phenols was lower in the cover above 40 %.

Resumo Cedrela fissilis (Vell.) é uma importante espécie madeirável nativa da América do Sul que sofre frequente pressão do extrativismo ilegal. As iniciativas de cultivo comercial acumulam fracassos recorrentes pela ação da broca-do-cedro Hypsipyla grandella (Zeller, 1848). Um dos métodos de manejo utilizados para reduzir os ataques é o plantio em locais sombreados; entretanto, é desconhecido o fator que faz as plantas sombreadas serem menos atacadas. O estabelecimento dos parâmetros de cultivo em tal condição que alie desenvolvimento adequado das plantas e baixos índices de ataque de Hypsipyla grandella foi o objetivo central deste estudo. Foi acompanhado nos dois primeiros anos o crescimento em altura e diâmetro de coleto de mudas de cedro-rosa plantadas em sistemas agroflorestais em que foram testados três níveis de cobertura 0-20%, 20-40% e 40-60% quanto ao efeito no desenvolvimento e frequência de ataque de Hypsipyla grandella. A população do inseto foi monitorada com semioquímicos durante todo o período de ensaios, e foram testadas duas misturas feromonais e um atrativo alimentar. Os resultados de campo indicaram que uma das misturas feromonais foi eficiente para identificação de pequenas variações populacionais de adultos. Quanto ao desenvolvimento das plantas, o tratamento com maior taxa de cobertura apresentou os menores parâmetros em comparação com a cobertura intermediária, e a frequência de ataque de Hypsipyla grandella foi maior no tratamento com menor cobertura (0-20%). Os resultados indicaram que, em cobertura variando de 20 a 40%, foi possível aliar boas taxas de desenvolvimento das plantas com baixa frequência de ataque da broca-do-cedro.

Abstract Cedrela fissilis (Vell.) is an important wood species, native to South America. It is appreciated for its physical characteristics and, therefore, its native specimens are overexploited. Commercial cultivation initiatives have been continuously flawed as a result of the damage caused by mahogany shoot borer Hypsipyla grandella (Zeller, 1848). Planting under shaded sites has been one of the management methods used to reduce insect attacks. However, the reason why mahogany shoot borer does not attack shaded plants as often is still unknown. Therefore, the aim of this research was to find cultivation parameters that could combine proper plant development and low rate of attacks by Hypsipyla grandella. For this purpose, increases in height and shoot diameter of cedar seedlings, planted in agroforestry systems, were monitored for the two first years. Three canopy cover rates, namely, 0-20%, 20-40% and 40-60%, were tested for plant development and frequency of attacks by Hypsipyla grandella. The adult population of the insect was monitored with semiochemicals throughout the experimental period, and two pheromonal blends and one food bait were tested. Field results showed that one of the pheromone blends was efficient in identifying small variations in the population of adult specimens. Regarding to the plant development, the treatment with the highest cover rate showed the lowest parameters compared to the intermediate cover. The frequency of attacks by Hypsipyla grandella was greater in the treatment with the lowest cover (0-20%). The results suggest that in canopy cover, ranging from 20 to 40%, good rates of initial development of plants can be combined with low frequency of attack by Hypsipyla grandella.

ABSTRACT Background: There is little information on herpes zoster from hospital registries in South America. The aim of this study was to describe the epidemiological and clinical aspects of herpes zoster (HZ) in hospitalized patients.' Methods: We searched for hospital-based records during the period from March 2000 to January 2017 in a 700-bed tertiary-care hospital located in southern Brazil. The medical records of all eligible patients were reviewed, and data regarding demographics, medical history, clinical and laboratory characteristics, treatment regimens, and clinical outcomes were collected. Patients were also evaluated for mortality. Results: There were 801 records of herpes zoster according to the proposed criteria. Most patients with HZ presented a cutaneous clinical form of the disease with involvement of a single dermatome (n = 589, 73.5%). Additional clinical characteristics included postherpetic neuralgia (22.1%), ophthalmic HZ (7.6%) and meningoencephalitis (2.7%). Most patients presented immunocompromised conditions (64.9%) including HIV, administration of immunosuppressive agents, and malignant neoplasms. During this period, there were 105 (13.1%) deaths, which were mostly unrelated to HZ. Five deaths were related to HZ meningoencephalitis. Conclusion: The results of this study demonstrate a high burden of HZ disease in a Brazilian tertiary care hospital in the HZ vaccination era. Awareness of the incidence and comorbidity factors associated with HZ in Latin American countries such as Brazil contribute for adoption and implementation of strategies for immunization in this area.
