Abstract Aim: This study aims to compare a functional training protocol and Mat Pilates for individuals with Parkinson's disease and to evaluate the effects on motor symptoms, as well as non-motor symptoms using a randomized controlled trial. Methods: Protocol for a randomized clinical trial in which 45 individuals with Parkinson's disease will be recruited and randomly allocated to one of three groups: (1) functional training; (2) Mat Pilates; (3) control group. Both intervention groups will have 60 min classes twice a week for 12 weeks. The primary outcome will be analyzed through motor symptoms, including balance, mobility, muscle strength, handgrip strength, flexibility, range of motion, and cardiorespiratory fitness. Secondary outcomes will include non-motor symptoms such as cognition, aging perspective, mood, anxiety, and depression. Conclusion: This will be the first randomized trial to compare the effects of functional training and Mat Pilates in a population with Parkinson's disease. It is hypothesized that improvements in motor and non-motor symptoms will be greater and more lasting after functional training and Mat Pilates interventions than those that maintain their routine activities, given the benefits of exercise and the unprecedented protocols in this disease.

Abstract Aim: People with Parkinson's disease constantly demonstrate low levels of physical activity, which is why dance has become increasingly important for the treatment of the disease. This study aimed to analyze the influence of binary and quaternary rhythm on fatigue, sleep, and daytime sleepiness in individuals with Parkinson's disease. Methods: 31 individuals participated in this randomized clinical trial with a mean age of 66.6 ± 10.2 years, 71% were male and 29% were female, allocated into two groups, binary and quaternary, where they participated in different dance interventions lasting 12 weeks. A questionnaire was applied including personal and clinical information; Mental State Mini-Examination (MMSE), Hoehn and Yahr (H&Y), Fatigue Severity Scale (FSS), Sleep Scale for Parkinson's Disease (PDSS), and Daytime Sleepiness Epworth Scale (ESS). Results: The groups that participated in binary rhythm classes showed improvement in sleep quality and daytime sleepiness after 12 weeks of intervention. However, no significant differences were found in the group that participated in the quaternary rhythm classes. Moreover, it was noted that the binary group managed to raise the heart rate during the 12 weeks of intervention, given that these results were not obtained in the quaternary group. Conclusion: The results showed the effectiveness of binary rhythm on non-motor symptoms and heart rate increase in individuals with Parkinson's disease. Thus, it is concluded that the binary rhythm was more effective than the quaternary rhythm.

Resumo Introdução: O câncer de mama é um problema para a saúde pública devido ao alto número de incidência. Seu tratamento muitas vezes mutilador pode trazer sérios problemas na imagem corporal e na função sexual dessas mulheres. A dança do ventre vem como uma opção passível para melhorar a feminilidade dessas mulheres. Objetivo: Analisar o efeito da prática da dança do ventre na função sexual e na imagem corporal de pacientes em tratamento adjuvante de hormonioterapia para o câncer de mama em Santa Catarina. Métodos: O ensaio clínico randomizado de dois braços foi realizado com 24 mulheres (60 ± 10,4 anos) diagnosticadas com câncer de mama, sendo 11 no grupo de intervenção (GI) e 13 no grupo controle (GC). Utilizou-se um questionário avaliando características pessoais e clínicas, imagem corporal BIBCQ e função sexual FSFI. Resultados: Na escala de imagem corporal, nos domínios estigma corporal (p = 0,002) e preocupações com o corpo (p = 0,017), foram encontradas diferenças significativas intergrupo, com melhor imagem corporal para o GI no período pós-intervenção quando comparado ao GC. Na função sexual não foram encontradas diferenças significativas. Conclusão: Percebe-se a importância do exercício físico como a dança do ventre a fim de auxiliar na melhora da imagem corporal de pacientes com câncer de mama em tratamento adjuvante com hormonioterapia.

Abstract Introduction: Breast cancer is a public health problem because of its high incidence. Its often-mutilating treatment can cause serious problems with regard to body image and sexual function in these women. Belly dancing is a possible option to improve the femininity of these women. Objective: The aim of this two-arm randomized study was to determine the effect of practicing belly dancing on sexual function and body image in breast cancer patients undergoing adjuvant hormone therapy in Santa Catarina, Brazil. Methods: The study randomized 24 women (60 ± 10.4 years old) diagnosed with breast cancer, 11 in the intervention group (IG) and 13 in the control group (CG). A questionnaire was used to evaluate personal and clinical characteristics, body image (BIBCQ), and sexual function (FSFI). Results: On the body image scale, in the domains of body stigma (p = 0.002) and body concerns (p = 0.017), significant intergroup differences were found, with better body image for the IG in the post-intervention period when compared to the CG. In sexual function, no significant differences were found. Conclusion: Belly dancing as physical exercise helps improve body image in patients with breast cancer undergoing adjuvant treatment with hormone therapy.

Os estudos encontrados foram selecionados manualmente e com auxílio do software Rayyan por dois pesquisadores, de forma cega e independente. As seguintes palavras-chave foram utilizadas como estratégia de busca: 'câncer de mama' AND 'atividade física' OR 'exercício físico', AND 'protocolo de estudo' OU 'protocolo de estudo'.Os critérios de inclusão, os protocolos de estudo dos ensaios clínicos randomizados com intervenção de atividade física e / ou exercício físico em mulheres em tratamento para câncer de mama e no pós-tratamento. Resultados: 806 artigos foram encontrados. Foram excluídas as duplicatas e as que não atendem aos critérios de inclusão, restando 17 artigos para a revisão. RESUMO O objetivo deste ensaio clínico randomizado foi analisar o efeito de 16 semanas de intervenção do método Pilates na autoestima e sintomas depressivos em mulheres com câncer de mama em terapia hormonal. Trinta e quatro mulheres foram randomizadas no grupo Pilates (PG) (n = 18) e no grupo controle (GC) (n = 16). A intervenção ocorre por 16 semanas, com 3x por semana, durante 60 minutos cada sessão (intensidade leve a intenso de acordo com a escala de BORG). O GC recebeu atividades educativas em forma de palestras e foi convidado a manter suas atividades de rotina. A coleta de dados ocorreu na linha de base e pós-intervenção. Foi aplicado um questionário incluindo a Escala de Autoestima e o Inventário de Depressão de Beck. Anova Two way, com medidas repetidas e teste de comparação de Sydak, foi utilizado para analisar os efeitos nas variáveis após as 16 semanas de intervenção. Dois tipos de análise foram realizados após a intervenção, na análise por intenção de tratar PG (n=18) a variável autoestima apresentou resultado significativo (p=0.011) e na análise por protocolo PG (n=11) (p=0.013). Os sintomas depressivos não demonstraram melhora significativas após a intervenção. O grupo controle não apresentou alterações significativas durante o período do estudo. As 16 semanas de PG foram uma intervenção eficaz para melhorar a autoestima de mulheres com câncer de mama em terapia hormonal.

ABSTRACT The purpose of this randomized clinical trial was to analyze the effects of 16 weeks of mat Pilates method intervention in self-esteem and depressive symptoms in women with breast cancer undergoing hormone therapy. Thirty-four women were randomized in Pilates group (PG) (n=18) and control group (CG) (n=16). The intervention occurs for 16 weeks, three times per week for 60 minutes each session (light to very hard intensity according to BORG scale). The CG received three educational sessions and was invited to maintain their routine activities. The data collection took place at the baseline and post-intervention. A questionnaire was applied including Self-Esteem Scale and the Beck Depression Inventory. Anova Two way with repeated measures and Sydak comparison test was used to analyze the effects in the variables after the 16 weeks intervention. Two types of analysis were performed after the intervention, in the analysis by intention to treat PG (n=18) the self-esteem variable showed a significant result (p=0.011) and in the analysis by PG protocol (n=11) (p=0.013). The depressive symptoms did not demonstrate significant improvements after the intervention. Control group did not present any significant changes during the time of the study. The 16 weeks of PG was an effective intervention to improve self-esteem of women with breast cancer undergoing hormone therapy.

RESUMO Introdução: As pessoas com doença de Parkinson constantemente apresentam baixos níveis de atividade física. A dança tem se tornado cada vez mais importante para o tratamento da doença e pode ajudar a melhorar os sintomas não motores. Objetivo: Analisar a influência do samba brasileiro nos sintomas não motores da DP, segundo os subtipos TD e PGID. Métodos: Ensaio clínico não randomizado com duração de 12 semanas por meio de comparação com grupo controle. Os 23 indivíduos que aceitaram participar das atividades formaram o grupo experimental (GE) e os 24 indivíduos que optaram por não participar das aulas de dança brasileira formaram o grupo controle (GC). Um questionário foi aplicado, composto por instrumentos validados: Mini Exame do Estado Mental - MEEM; HY - Escala de Grau de Incapacidade; Escala Unificada de Avaliação da Doença de Parkinson - UPDRS 1 e valores totais; Questionário sobre a Doença de Parkinson - PDQ-39; Escala de Sono para a Doença de Parkinson - PDSS; Inventário de Depressão de Beck - BDI; Escala de Severidade de Fadiga - FSS e Magnitude das Alterações Percebidas. Resultados: Após doze semanas de intervenção, observou-se que o GE apresentou melhora nos escores de todos os testes. A comparação entre os grupos, no entanto, indicou uma diferença significativa no período pós-UPDRS1 em que o GE apresentou melhora no comprometimento cognitivo, enquanto o GC apresentou déficit nesses valores. Os resultados da divisão entre os subtipos da doença apresentam uma maior mudança nos valores entre os indivíduos do grupo TD ao comparar o GE com o GC. Em relação ao GE, a maior diferença entre a pré e pós-intervenção foi relacionada à fadiga. Conclusão: Houve tendência positiva em todas as variáveis estudadas após a aplicação do protocolo. Isso demonstra que intervenções como a dança podem ter maiores efeitos sobre os sintomas não motores, dependendo da progressão esperada da doença. A escassez de estudos que utilizam essa abordagem em suas análises pode explicar a falta de evidências nessa sintomatologia relacionadas à dança. ABSTRACT Introduction: People with Parkinson's disease constantly have low levels of physical activity. Dancing has become increasingly important for treating the disease and can help improve non-motor symptoms. Objective: To analyze the influence of Brazilian samba on the non-motor symptoms of PD according to TD and PGID subtypes. Methods: A 12-week, non-randomized clinical trial, through comparison with a control group. The 23 individuals who agreed to participate in the activities formed the experimental group (EG) and the 24 individuals who opted not to participate in the Brazilian samba classes comprised the control group (CG). A questionnaire was applied, composed of validated instruments. Mini Mental State Examination – MMSE; HY – Disability Scale; Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale – UPDRS 1 and total values; Parkinson's Disease Questionnaire – PDQ-39, Parkinson's Disease Sleep Scale – PDSS; Beck Depression Inventory – BDI; Fatigue Severity Scale – FSS and Magnitude of Perceived Changes. Results: After the twelve weeks of intervention, it was observed that the EG showed improvement in the scores of all the tests. The comparison between groups, however, indicated a significant difference in the post-UPDRS1 period in which the EG presented improvement in cognitive impairment, while the CG presented a deficit in these values. The results of the division between disease subtypes show a greater change in the values between individuals of the TD group, when comparing the EG with the CG. For the EG, the greatest difference between pre- and post- intervention was fatigue. Conclusion: There was a positive trend in all the variables studied after the application of the protocol. This demonstrates that interventions such as dance may have greater effects on non-motor symptoms, depending on the expected progression of the disease. The scarcity of studies that use this approach in their analyses may explain the lack of evidence in this symptomatology related to dance. RESUMEN Introducción: Las personas con enfermedad de Parkinson constantemente presentan bajos niveles de actividad física. La danza se ha vuelto cada vez más importante para el tratamiento de la enfermedad y puede ayudar a mejorar los síntomas no motores. Objetivo: Analizar la influencia del samba brasileño en los síntomas no motores de la EP, según los subtipos TD y PGID. Métodos: Ensayo clínico no aleatorizado con duración de 12 semanas, por medio de comparación con grupo control. Los 23 individuos que aceptaron participar en las actividades formaron el grupo experimental (GE) y los 24 individuos que optaron por no participar en las clases de danza brasileña formaron el grupo control (GC). Fue aplicado un cuestionario, compuesto por instrumentos validados: Mini Examen del Estado Mental - MEEM; HY - Escala del Grado de Incapacidad; Escala unificada de evaluación de la Enfermedad de Parkinson - UPDRS 1 y valores totales; Cuestionario sobre la Enfermedad de Parkinson - PDQ-39; Escala de Sueño de la Enfermedad de Parkinson - PDSS; Inventario de Depresión de Beck - BDI; Escala de Severidad de la Fatiga - FSS y Magnitud de las Alteraciones Percibidas. Resultados: Después de doce semanas de intervención, se observó que el GE presentó una mejora en los puntajes de todos los tests. La comparación entre los grupos, sin embargo, indicó una diferencia significativa en el período post-UPDRS1 en que el GE presentó una mejora en el compromiso cognitivo, mientras que el GC presentó déficit en esos valores. Los resultados de la división entre los subtipos de la enfermedad presentan un mayor cambio en los valores entre los individuos del grupo TD al comparar el GE con el GC. Con relación al GE, la mayor diferencia encontrada entre la pre y post intervención fue relacionada a la fatiga. Conclusión: Hubo tendencia positiva en todas las variables estudiadas después de la aplicación del protocolo. Eso demuestra que intervenciones como la danza pueden tener mayores efectos sobre los síntomas no motores, dependiendo de la progresión esperada de la enfermedad. La escasez de estudios que utilizan ese abordaje en sus análisis, puede explicar la falta de evidencias en esa sintomatología cuando relacionadas a la danza. Resumo Fundamentos: Novos protocolos aplicados na reabilitação da doença de Parkinson possibilitam diferentes estratégias de atuação para profissionais de saúde, além de um novo leque de atividades para estes indivíduos. Entretanto, não se encontrou na literatura qualquer protocolo de samba com prescrição de atividades validado para esta população. Objetivo: O objetivo foi verificar a viabilidade de um protocolo de samba brasileiro em indivíduos com doença de Parkinson. Métodos: Vinte participantes, com idade média de 66,4±10,7 anos, com diagnóstico de doença de Parkinson idiopática divididos em: grupo experimental que recebeu a intervenção das aulas de dança - samba brasileiro (10 indivíduos); e grupo controle que manteve as suas atividades rotineiras (10 indivíduos). Para a coleta dos dados foi utilizado um questionário dividido: Informações Gerais; Escala de estágios de Incapacidade; Equilíbrio e Qualidade de Vida. Resultados: Durante a realização das aulas, não houve quedas, todas as atividades de dança aderiram aos detalhes das etapas do protocolo, sem quaisquer alterações, e os pacientes completaram, em média, 82,7% das atividades. Após 12 semanas, o grupo experimental apresentou melhoras no escore global da escala UPDRS, em atividades de vida diária e no exame motor. Houve também melhora nos escores de equilíbrio e no domínio de mobilidade da qualidade de vida do grupo experimental. Conclusão: A utilização de um protocolo de samba para indivíduos com doença de Parkinson mostrou-se viável, por sua característica segura e prazerosa, e por apresentar benefícios físicos suficientes para combinação com o tratamento medicamentoso. Houve também benefícios nas relações sociais e como uma possível ferramenta de reabilitação em indivíduos com a doença de Parkinson.

Abstract Background: New protocols applied in the rehabilitation of Parkinson's disease enable different action strategies for health professionals, as well as a new range of activities for these individuals. However, no valid samba protocol with activity prescription for this population was found in the literature. Objective: To investigate the feasibility of a Brazilian samba protocol in individuals with Parkinson's disease. Methods: Twenty participants, mean age of 66.4±10.7 years, diagnosed with idiopathic Parkinson 's disease, divided into: experimental group that received the intervention of Brazilian samba dance classes (10 individuals); and control group that maintained their routine activities (10 individuals). For data collection, a divided questionnaire was used: General Information; Disability stages scale; Balance and Quality of Life. Results: During class implementation, there were no falls, as all dance activities adhered to the details of the protocol steps without any changes. On average, patients completed 82.7% of activities. After 12 weeks, the experimental group had improvements in the UPDRS global score, in daily activities, and on motor examination. There was also improvement in balance scores and in the mobility domain of the quality of life in the experimental group. Conclusion: The samba protocol seems to be feasible and safe for patients with PD. Moreover, it has pleasant characteristics and offers sufficient physical benefits for combination with drug treatment. There were also benefits in social relationships and as a possible rehabilitation tool in individuals with Parkinson's disease.

Resumo O câncer de mama é o mais frequente nas mulheres, tendo como consequências do tratamento a fadiga e sintomas depressivos, no entanto a atividade física pode auxiliar neste processo. Objetivou-se investigar a relação entre fadiga, sintomas depressivos e prática de atividade física de mulheres com câncer de mama em fase de tratamento ou pós tratamento oncológico. Estudo transversal com 179 mulheres (56,89 ± 9,4 anos) do Centro de Pesquisas Oncológicas – CEPON, utilizando-se um questionário sobre informações gerais e clínicas, fadiga (Escala de Fadiga de Piper), sintomas depressivos (Inventário de Depressão de Beck) e atividade física (IPAQ – versão curta). As mulheres com fadiga moderada a intensa realizavam fisioterapia (p=0,001) e as mulheres com ausência de fadiga apresentaram sintomas depressivos mínimos (p ?0,001). O nível de atividade física não se associou com a fadiga, sendo que a maioria das mulheres era insuficientemente ativa e as mulheres com fadiga leve apresentaram um tempo de caminhada maior do que aquelas com ausência de fadiga (p=0,049). Mulheres com presença de sintomas depressivos apresentaram quase três vezes mais chance de apresentar fadiga leve a intensa e aquelas que realizavam fisioterapia apresentaram duas vezes mais chance de apresentar fadiga leve a intensa. Mulheres com fadiga apresentaram maior presença de sintomas depressivos. Os profissionais que atuam na área da saúde oncológica devem recomendar a prática de atividade física a fim de minimizar os efeitos colaterais do tratamento, e prestar atenção aos sinais de sintomas depressivos e fadiga nestas mulheres.

Abstract Breast cancer is the most frequent in women, resulting in fatigue and depressive symptoms as consequence of treatment, but physical activity can help in this process. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between fatigue, depressive symptoms and practice of physical activity of women with breast cancer during treatment or after cancer treatment. This is a cross-sectional study with 179 women (56.89 ± 9.4 years) from the Oncology Research Center - CEPON, using questionnaire on general and clinical information, fatigue (Piper Fatigue Scale) depressive symptoms (Beck Depression Inventory) and physical activity (IPAQ - short version). Women with moderate to severe fatigue underwent physiotherapy (p = 0.001) and women with no fatigue had minimum depressive symptoms (p ?0.001). Level of physical activity was not associated with fatigue, with most women being insufficiently active and women with mild fatigue had longer walking time than those without fatigue (p = 0.049). Women with depressive symptoms were almost three times more likely of having mild to severe fatigue and those who underwent physiotherapy were twice as likely of having mild to severe fatigue. Women with fatigue had greater presence of depressive symptoms. Professionals working in the field of oncology should recommend the practice of physical activity in order to minimize the side effects of treatment and observe depressive symptoms and fatigue in these women.

RESUMO Introdução O câncer de mama traz inúmeras consequências para a vida das mulheres e a atividade física pode ser benéfica neste período. Objetivos Analisar a influência da dança do ventre na imagem corporal e autoestima das mulheres durante e após o tratamento do câncer de mama. Métodos Participaram do estudo 19 mulheres, divididas em grupo controle (oito mulheres) e grupo experimental (11 mulheres), diagnosticadas com câncer de mama em tratamento ou após o-tratamento no Centro de Pesquisas Oncológicas (CEPON). Para a coleta de dados, utilizou-se um questionário dividido em três blocos: a) informações gerais - caracterização sociodemográfica e clínica; b) imagem corporal - Body Image After Breast Cancer; e c) autoestima - Escala de Autoestima de Rosenberg. O grupo experimental foi submetido a uma intervenção com aulas de 60 minutos de dança do ventre, duas vezes por semana, por um período total de 12 semanas. O grupo controle apenas manteve suas atividades de rotina. Resultados Houve mudanças significativas na melhora da imagem corporal no período pré- e pós-intervenção do grupo experimental, nas escalas de estigma corporal (p=0,017) e transparência (p=0,021). Não houve modificações em relação à autoestima. O grupo controle não apresentou mudanças tanto na imagem corporal quanto na autoestima. Conclusão Percebeu-se a influência da dança do ventre na melhora da imagem corporal das mulheres após 12 semanas de intervenção. Dessa maneira, entende-se que a prática de uma atividade física pode auxiliar essas mulheres após o câncer de mama e deve ser incentivada por profissionais de saúde desta área. ABSTRACT Introduction Breast cancer has innumerable consequences in women’s lives and physical activity can be beneficial during this period. Objectives To analyze the influence of belly dancing on the body image and self-esteem of women during and after breast cancer treatment. Methods Nineteen women diagnosed with breast cancer, divided into a control group (8 women) and a study group (11 women), who were under treatment or post-treatment at the Center for Oncological Research (CEPON), participated in the study. A questionnaire was used for data collection, divided into three blocks as follows: a) general information - sociodemographic and clinical characterization; b) body image - Body Image After Breast Cancer; and c) self-esteem - Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale. The study group underwent a belly dance intervention consisting of 60-minute classes, twice a week, for a total period of 12 weeks. Women in the control group only maintained their routine activities. Results Significant changes were observed in the improvement of body image in the belly dance group in the pre- and post-intervention periods in the body stigma (p = 0.017) and transparency (p = 0.021) scales. There were no changes in regards to self-esteem. The control group had no changes in either body image or self-esteem. Conclusion The influence of belly dancing on the improvement of women’s body image was observed after 12 weeks of intervention. Thus, it is understood that physical activity may help these women after breast cancer, and should be encouraged by health professionals in this field. RESUMEN Introducción El cáncer de mama trae innumerables consecuencias para la vida de las mujeres y la actividad física puede ser beneficiosa en este período. Objetivos Analizar la influencia de la danza del vientre en la imagen corporal y la autoestima de las mujeres durante y después del tratamiento del cáncer de mama. Métodos Participaron del estudio 19 mujeres, divididas en grupo control (ocho mujeres) y grupo experimental (11 mujeres), diagnosticadas con cáncer de mama en tratamiento o post tratamiento en el Centro de Investigaciones Oncológicas (CEPON). Para la recolección de los datos se utilizó un cuestionario dividido en tres bloques: a) informaciones generales - caracterización sociodemográfica y clínica; b) imagen corporal - Body Image After Breast Cancer; y c) autoestima - Escala de Autoestima de Rosenberg. El grupo experimental fue sometido a una intervención con clases de 60 minutos de danza del vientre, dos veces por semana, por un período total de 12 semanas. El grupo control sólo mantuvo sus actividades de rutina. Resultados Hubo cambios significativos en la mejora de la imagen corporal del período pre y post intervención del grupo experimental, en las escalas de estigma corporal (p = 0,017) y transparencia (p = 0,021). En la autoestima no se encontraron modificaciones. El grupo control no presentó cambios, tanto en la imagen corporal, como en la autoestima. Conclusión Se percibió la influencia de la danza del vientre en la mejora de la imagen corporal de las mujeres después de las 12 semanas de intervención. De esta manera, se entiende que la práctica de una actividad física puede ayudar a esas mujeres después del cáncer de mama, y debe ser incentivada por profesionales de salud de esta área. RESUMO JUSTIFICATIVA E OBJETIVOS: O câncer de mama é um problema de saúde pública devido às altas taxas de incidência e mortalidade, e a presença de dor no braço e na mama é um sintoma de maior frequência nessas mulheres. O objetivo deste estudo foi organizar as evidências científicas sobre os tratamentos de reabilitação para dor utilizados com mulheres após a cirurgia do câncer de mama. CONTEÚDO: A busca foi realizada a partir da consulta às bases de dados Pubmed, LILACS e Scielo, dos artigos publicados nos últimos 10 anos, de janeiro de 2008 a janeiro de 2018. O levantamento foi realizado com os seguintes descritores: “Breast Cancer” AND “Upper Limb” AND “Pain” AND “Rehabilitation”. Foram incluídos ensaios clínicos randomizados, estudos piloto e estudos quase-experimentais. A busca totalizou 92 artigos e destes foram selecionados apenas sete. A escala analógica visual foi utilizada na maioria dos artigos. CONCLUSÃO: A fisioterapia e o exercício físico podem beneficiar mulheres com câncer de mama, reduzindo a dor e aumentando a funcionalidade de membro superior, além de minimizar o linfedema.

ABSTRACT BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Breast cancer is a public health problem due to its high rates of incidence and mortality, and the presence of pain in the arm and breast is a very frequent symptom in these women. The objective of this study was to organize scientific evidence on rehabilitation treatments for women after breast cancer surgery. CONTENTS: The search was performed based on the Medline, LILACS, and Scielo database on articles published in the last 10 years, from January 2008 to January 2018. The survey was carried out with the following keywords: “Breast Cancer” and “Upper Limb” and “Pain” and “Rehabilitation”. Randomized clinical trials, pilot study, and quasi-experimental study were included. The search totaled 92 articles, of which only seven articles were selected. The visual analog scale was used in most articles. CONCLUSION: Physiotherapy and physical exercise can benefit women with breast cancer, reducing pain, and increasing the upper limb’s functionality, as well as minimize the lymphedema.

This cross-sectional study aimed to analyze the relationship between quality of life and levels of fatigue among Brazilian professional dancers. A total of 127 professional classical ballet and contemporary dancers, both male and female, from professional dance companies of the Brazilian South-Southeast region, participated in the study. Data were collected using online self-administered questionnaires, the World Health Organization Quality of Life - Biomedical Research and Education Foundation (WHOQOL - BREF) and the Fatigue Symptom Checklist (FSC), to characterize the participants. Multiple linear regressions were used for data analysis. The results showed that worsened psychological health, social relationships, environment, and total quality of life domains were associated with the drowsiness and dullness scale. Worsened physical health, psychological, and total quality of life domains were also associated with the inability to concentrate scale. However, improvement in social relationships and total quality of life domains were associated with the awareness of physical discomfort scale. These results indicate that fatigue affects the quality of life of professional dancers differently based on the scales used to measure fatigue, which highlights the importance of studies empirically testing specific fatigue-modifying factors in professional dance contexts.

ABSTRACT OBJECTIVE: To analyze the factors associated with the presence of depression symptoms in women after breast cancer. METHODS: Cross-sectional study with 181 women with breast cancer, aged 57.0 years (SD = 9.5), who were undergoing treatment or after treatment in the Oncology Research Center in Florianópolis, state of Santa Catarina, Brazil. The questionnaire comprised items addressing general and health information, economic level, anthropometric measures, depression symptoms (Beck Depression Inventory), self-esteem (Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale), and body image (Body Image After Breast Cancer Questionnaire). Descriptive and inferential statistical analysis were performed by chi-square and Fisher's exact tests to verify association, Mann-Whitney U test to compare the groups and Poisson regression to identify the prevalence ratio of the factors associated with presence of depression symptoms (p < 0.05). RESULTS: We found an association between the presence of depression symptoms and the group of younger women (aged 40–60 years), those who had another disease besides cancer, those who had mastectomy surgery, those who suffered from lymphedema, and those who presented low–medium self-esteem. Less educated women presented more depressive symptoms, as did women with worse body image on the subscales of limitations, transparency, and arm concerns. CONCLUSIONS: Age, educational attainment, diagnosis of other diseases, type of surgery, lymphedema, self-esteem, and body image were factors associated with the presence of depression symptoms in Brazilian women after breast cancer. Health professionals should be aware of these relationships and try to detect depression symptoms earlier and improve the care they provide to these women.

The objective of the study was to compare the physical activity, fatigue and quality of life of patients during breast cancer treatment and to investigate the association between these variables. It was included 122 women in clinical treatment at the Cancer Research Center (CEPON) in Florianópolis, SC. We used a questionnaire with general information, physical activity (IPAQ - short), fatigue (Piper fatigue) and quality of life (EORTC QLQ - C30). One-way ANOVA with Scheffe's post-hoc, Chi-square, and univariate and multiple linear regression (p <0.05) were used. It was observed a greater walking time and total physical activity for the patients in the hormone therapy. In the fatigue, worse scores were presented by the patients in the chemotherapy. In the quality of life, there was a difference in the symptomatic scale, with worse scores on the subscales of nausea and vomiting, pain and loss of appetite for patients on chemotherapy and constipation for radiotherapy. It was identified an association between the increase of the physical activity with the improvement of the physical, social function and symptoms of the fatigue, regardless of the type of treatment or age. Patients in the hormone therapy practiced more physical activity, and those in chemotherapy had worse side effects. It is necessary to encourage physical activity during treatment, since benefits in quality of life and fatigue are evidenced.

RESUMO Introdução: O tratamento do câncer de mama pode causar diferentes efeitos colaterais na qualidade de vida das mulheres. A atividade física, por sua vez, pode diminuir esses efeitos colaterais. Objetivo: Investigar a atividade física e a qualidade de vida de mulheres durante e após o tratamento para câncer de mama. Métodos: Amostra de 174 mulheres (57,0 ± 9,5 anos) durante e depois do tratamento de câncer de mama. Questionário de entrevista composto de informações gerais, atividade física (versão curta do IPAQ) e qualidade de vida (EORTC QLQ-C30 e BR23). Para a análise estatística foram usados Qui-quadrado ou Exato de Fisher, teste T de Student para amostras independentes, teste U de Mann-Whitney e análises de regressão logística múltipla (p < 0,05). Resultados: A maioria das mulheres não atingiu as recomendações de atividade física, com destaque para as mulheres que estavam em tratamento clínico. Os resultados mostraram mais tempo de caminhada, atividade física moderada, atividade física vigorosa, atividade física moderada + vigorosa e atividade física total em mulheres após o término do tratamento. Os escores de qualidade de vida também foram mais altos entre as mulheres após o término do tratamento. A regressão logística indicou que cada acréscimo de 10 minutos no tempo de caminhada resulta em diminuição de 19% da probabilidade de capacidade funcional mais baixa e de 26% de desenvolver mais sintomas mais graves associados aos efeitos colaterais do tratamento. Conclusão: Durante o tratamento, as mulheres com câncer de mama praticam menos AF e têm pior qualidade de vida. A prática de caminhada parece ser um tipo efetivo de atividade física para essas mulheres, melhorando a qualidade de vida durante e depois do tratamento de câncer de mama. ABSTRACT Introduction: Breast cancer treatment can cause different side effects on the quality of life of women. Physical activity, in turn, can reduce these side effects. Objective: To investigate the physical activity and quality of life of women during and after breast cancer treatment. Methods: Sample of 174 women (57.0±9.5 years) during or after clinical treatment for breast cancer. Interview questionnaire composed of general information, physical activity (IPAQ short version) and quality of life (EORTC QLQ-C30 and BR23). For statistical analysis chi-squared test or Fisher's exact test, student's t-test for independent samples, Mann-Whitney U test and multiple logistic regression analyses (p <0.05). Results: Most women did not achieve the physical activity guidelines, particularly those undergoing clinical treatment. Results showed longer walking time, moderate physical activity, vigorous physical activity, moderate + vigorous physical activity, and total physical activity among the women following completion of treatment. The quality of life scores were also higher among women after clinical treatment. Logistic regression indicated that every 10-minute increment to walking time results in a 19% decrease in the probability of worse functional capacity and a 26% decrease in the probability of worse symptoms associated with treatment side effects. Conclusion: During treatment, women with breast cancer undertake less physical activity and have worse quality of life. Walking appears to be an effective type of physical activity for these women, improving quality of life during and after breast cancer treatment. RESUMEN Introducción: El tratamiento del cáncer de mama puede promover diferentes efectos secundarios en la calidad de vida de las mujeres. A su vez, la actividad física puede disminuir estos efectos colaterales. Objetivo: Investigar la actividad física y la calidad de vida de las mujeres durante y después del tratamiento contra el cáncer de mama. Métodos: Muestra de 174 mujeres (57,0 ± 9,5 años) que se encontraban en tratamiento y post tratamiento para el cáncer de mama. Cuestionario de entrevista compuesto de información general, actividad física (versión corta IPAQ) y calidad de vida (EORTC QLQ-C30 y BR23). Para análisis estadístico Chi-cuadrado o Exacto de Fisher, Test T Student para muestras independientes, U de Mann-Whitney y análisis de regresión logística múltiple (p < 0,05). Resultados: La mayoría de las mujeres no alcanzaron las recomendaciones de actividad física, destacando para las mujeres que se encontraban en tratamiento. Los resultados mostraron más tiempo de caminata, actividad física moderada, actividad física vigorosa, actividad física moderada + intensidad vigorosa y actividad física total en mujeres post tratamiento. La calidad de vida también se mostró mejor entre las mujeres después de finalizar el tratamiento. La regresión logística apuntó que cada agregado de 10 minutos en el tiempo de caminata resulta en una disminución del 19% en la probabilidad de una peor capacidad funcional de la calidad de vida, y en un 26% de desarrollo de una peor sintomatología en relación a los efectos colaterales del tratamiento. Conclusión: Durante el tratamiento, las mujeres con cáncer de mama practican menos actividad física y presentan peor calidad de vida. La práctica de caminar parece un tipo efectivo de actividad física para mujeres con cáncer de mama, mejorando la calidad de vida durante y después del período de tratamiento.
