ABSTRACT The objective of this work was to produce and characterize biochar from sugarcane straw, as well as to investigate possible phytotoxic effects on the germination of cotton, maize, and soybean. To this end, the biochar was produced in a double-drum oven and characterized by different techniques. The germination trials were conducted in vitro, with biochar doses varying between 0 and 100 t/ha. The biochar was obtained with a yield of 40%, pH equal to 9.10, electrical conductivity of 2.22 dS/m and specific surface area of 20.3 m2/g. The elemental analysis showed H/C and O/C atomic ratios of 0.41 and 0.21, respectively. The FTIR showed the presence of C=C groups, while SEM/EDS showed a honeycomb porous structure and nutrients such as Mg, K and Ca. The germination test classified the biochar as a phytonutrient for corn and showed no phytotoxicity for soybeans. On the other hand, for cotton, the highest doses (50 and 100 t/ha) caused phytotoxicity. The results of this work meet the global demands for green techniques. Biochar made from sugarcane straw is a promising technology to improve the infertility of poor soils and manage carbon sequestration.

RESUMO O objetivo deste trabalho foi produzir e caracterizar o biocarvão a partir da palha de cana-de-açúcar, bem como investigar possíveis efeitos fitotóxicos às germinações de algodão, milho e soja. Para tanto, o biocarvão foi produzido em forno de duplo tambor e caracterizado por diferentes técnicas. Os ensaios de germinação foram conduzidos in vitro, com doses de biocarvão variando entre 0 e 100 t/ha. O biocarvão foi obtido com rendimento de 40%, pH igual a 9,10, condutividade elétrica de 2,22 dS/m e área superficial específica de 20,3 m2/g. A análise elementar mostrou razões atômicas H/C e O/C de 0,41 e 0,21, respectivamente. A FTIR mostrou a presença de grupos C=C, enquanto a MEV/EDS mostrou estrutura porosa tipo favo de mel e nutrientes, como o Mg, K e Ca. O ensaio de germinação classificou o biocarvão como fitoestimulante para o milho e mostrou ausência de fitotoxicidade para soja. Por outro lado, para o algodão, as doses mais elevadas (50 e 100 t/ha) causaram fitotoxicidade. Os resultados deste trabalho vêm ao encontro das demandas globais por técnicas verdes. O biocarvão feito da palha de cana-de-açúcar é uma tecnologia promissora para melhorar a infertilidade de solos pobres e gerir o sequestro de carbono.

RESUMO O estado de Minas Gerais é o maior produtor de minério de ferro e, consequentemente, de rejeito de minério de ferro (RMF) do Brasil. Esta atividade de grande impacto ambiental está no centro das discussões políticas e sociais atuais devido aos desastres com rompimento de barragens ocorridos nas cidades de Mariana (2015) e de Brumadinho (2019), ambas mineiras. Estes eventos põem em discussão os métodos de descarte do RMF e coloca em destaque a possibilidade de um uso mais sustentável para este resíduo. Uma das alternativas é a utilização do RMF como insumo na fabricação de componentes da construção civil. Este trabalho avaliou a viabilidade do uso de RMF como agregado miúdo em microconcretos para a produção de elementos vazados. Para isso, o RMF foi caracterizado por meio de ensaios físicos e químicos. A dosagem do microconcreto foi realizada com base no método ABCP com fc28 = 25 MPa e abatimento do tronco de cone entre 80 e 100 mm. Para a análise mecânica do microconcreto, foram moldados corpos de prova (10x20 cm) cilíndricos e realizados ensaios de resistência à compressão, absorção e índice de vazios, após 28 dias de cura. Para obter parâmetros de durabilidade, foram realizados ensaios de carbonatação natural aos 60, 120 e 180 dias, carbonatação acelerada aos 28 e 56 dias (teor de CO2 = 5%; Umidade Relativa = 65%), além de ensaio de ataque ácido (solução H2SO4 a 5%). O estudo apontou para a viabilidade da substituição do agregado miúdo por RMF na produção de microconcretos para elementos vazados, sem prejuízo para a sua durabilidade.

ABSTRACT The Minas Gerais state is the largest producer of iron ore and, as a result, iron ore tailings (IOT) of Brazil. This activity has a great environmental impact and it is currently the subject of political and social discussions in Brazil, due to disasters with disruption of mining dams that occurred in the cities of Mariana (2015) and Brumadinho (2019), both cities of Minas Gerais. These events bring into discussion the currents methods of IOT disposal and highlight the possibility of a more sustainable use of mining tailings. One of the sustainable alternatives is the use of IOT as an input in the manufacture of civil construction components. In this way, this paper aimed to evaluate the feasibility of using iron ore tailing as fine aggregate in microconcretes for the production of hollow elements (brick vents). Thus, the IOT was characterized through physical and chemical tests. The dosage of microconcrete was performed based on ABCP method with fc28= 25 MPa and the slump test between 80 e 100mm. For the mechanical analysis of the microconcrete, cylindrical specimens (10x20cm) were molded and tests were executed on them, such as compression and flexure strength, water absorption and void ratio. after 28 days curing. To obtain durability parameters, was performed natural carbonation tests at 60, 120 and 180 days, accelerated carbonation tests at 28 and 56 days (CO2 content = 5%; relative humidity (RH) = 65%), and acid attack test (H2SO4 solution content = 5%). The research indicates the feasibility of replacing of the fine aggregate by IOT in the production of microconcretes for hollow elements (brick vents) confection without prejudice to its durability.

Abstract The objective of this work is to investigate the conversion of spent coffee grounds (SCG) into biochar (BSC) and the ecotoxicological effects of the product obtained. The SCG and BSC were characterized by characterized by different techniques (TGA/DTG, FTIR, XRD, SEM, EDS, and EDXRF). Proton Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (1H NMR) was used to characterize the aqueous extract of BSC. The inhibitory effect on lettuce (Lactuca sativa) germination was investigated. Besides, antimicrobial activity evaluation trials were conducted with Azospirillum brasilense and Trichoderma spp. The results showed that in the BSC production process, the extractives and lignocellulosic components in the SCG were partly decomposed. Tests conducted with microorganisms did not reveal any toxic effect of BSC. However, high phytotoxicity against lettuce was recorded for rate 100 t/ha of BSC. This effect was associated with the presence of carboxylic acids identified by 1H NMR in the BSC extract aqueous.

Resumo A proteção passiva contra incêndio (PPCI) é um campo de estudo aplicado à indústria da construção civil. Os resíduos de tijolos refratários contêm elementos que podem contribuir para as propriedades necessárias à PPCI. Diante disso, o trabalho desenvolveu uma argamassa com resíduos de tijolos refratários para utilização como PPCI. As 4 formulações propostas tiveram a resistência à compressão e flexão, densidade e porosidade aparente, condutividade térmica e variação linear avaliadas antes e após tratamento térmico a 600 °C e a 1100 °C. A densidade não apresentou significativas diferenças entre as formulações. A porosidade aumentou após o tratamento térmico. A mistura que apresentou maior contração a 1100 °C foi aquela com maior teor de gesso e todas as demais apresentaram valores de contração menores que o máximo permitido pela C195. A proporção que utilizou maior quantidade de gesso foi o que obteve a menor condutividade térmica. Portanto, conclui-se que a utilização do resíduo refratário é viável para PPCI, uma vez que atendem aos requisitos normativos.

Abstract Passive fire protection (PFP) is a field of study applied to the civil construction industry. Refractory brick waste contains elements that can contribute to the properties necessary for PFP. Therefore, this study developed a mortar with refractory brick waste for use as PFP. The authors proposed four formulations with compressive and flexural strength, bulk density and apparent porosity, thermal conductivity, and linear variation that were evaluated before and after heat treatment at 600 °C and 1100 °C. The density did not show significant differences between the formulations. The porosity increased after the heat treatment. The mixture that showed the highest shrinkage at 1100 °C was the one with the highest gypsum content, and all the other ones had shrinkage values lower than the maximum allowed by the C195 standard. The mixture that used the highest amount of gypsum was the one that obtained the lowest thermal conductivity. Therefore, it is concluded that using refractory waste is viable for the development of PFP mortars because they meet the regulatory requirements.

RESUMO: A alta demanda por concreto faz com que estudos sejam desenvolvidos para amenizar os impactos causados pela produção do cimento Portland, como emissões de gases do efeito estufa e demanda energética, além de viabilizar a redução de custos. A utilização de materiais em substituição parcial do cimento vem sendo empregada como alternativa para minimizar os danos causados pela indústria do cimento. Nesse escopo, se faz necessário utilizar materiais que consigam substituir de maneira eficiente o clínquer de cimento. O presente trabalho utilizou o rejeito resultante da produção de magnésio metálico como substituição parcial do cimento Portland. A substituição visa diminuir a quantidade de clínquer utilizada, tendo em vista que sua produção requer um elevado consumo de energia e emite grandes quantidades de CO2 na atmosfera. A caracterização do rejeito foi feita por meio de fluorescência de raios X (FRX), difração de raios X (DRX), microscopia eletrônica de varredura (MEV) e análise granulométrica. Com intuito de avaliar o comportamento mecânico e a porosidade, a dosagem do compósito resultante foi realizada com substituição parcial do cimento pelo rejeito no teor de 25% em massa, e foram moldados corpos de prova cilíndricos. Após a cura de 28 e 91 dias, todos os corpos de prova foram ensaiados à compressão. Os resultados da caracterização física mostraram que mais de 65% dos grãos do rejeito são menores que 45 µm, o que contribui para o efeito de empacotamento. Quanto à composição química e mineralógica, o rejeito possui altos teores de cálcio e foi possível identificar as fases predominantes. A resistência mecânica à compressão da argamassa com substituição apresentou valores superiores a 40 MPa. A convergência entre os resultados de diferentes técnicas de caracterização evidencia a eficiência do rejeito para uso como material cimentício suplementar.

ABSTRACT: The high demand for concrete has triggered studies on the mitigation of Portland cement production impacts, such as greenhouse gas emissions and energy demands, in addition to enabling cost reduction. Partial replacement of cement with other materials has been employed as an alternative to minimize the damage caused by the cement industry. In this regard, it is necessary to use materials that efficiently replace cement clinker. This study uses waste generated from the production of metallic magnesium as a partial replacement for Portland cement. The substitution is aimed at reducing the amount of clinker used, as its production necessitates high energy consumption and results in emission of large quantities of CO2 into the atmosphere. The tailings were characterized via X-ray fluorescence (XRF), X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and granulometric analysis. For evaluating the mechanical behavior and porosity, 25% of the cement (by mass) was replaced with tailings, and the resulting composite was molded into cylindrical specimens. After curing for 28 and 91 days, all specimens underwent compression testing. The results of the physical characterization showed that more than 65% of the tailing grain was lesser than 45 μm in size, which contributes to the packaging effect. In terms of the chemical and mineralogical composition, the tailing had high levels of calcium, and the predominant phases could be identified. The compressive strength of the mortar with substitution was higher than 40 MPa. The convergence observed between the results of the different characterization techniques demonstrates the efficiency of using the waste as a supplementary cementitious material.

RESUMO Um método alternativo para produção de concretos ecoeficientes seria a substituição parcial de cimento Portland por resíduos de pastas e argamassas submetidas a um tratamento termomecânico. Neste contexto, este estudo avalia a influência da relação água/cimento (a/c) e do tamanho médio das partículas na decomposição térmica do cimento hidratado. Pastas de cimento com três relações a/c (0,40, 0,50 e 0,60) e curadas por 28 dias foram moídas para obtenção de granulometrias com tamanho médio de 0,60 mm e 0,15 mm. A decomposição térmica das pastas foi analisada por termogravimetria (TGA), difração de raios X (DRX) e espectroscopia no infravermelho por Transformada de Fourier (FTIR). A análise de TGA indica que o teor de água quimicamente combinada é favorecido pelo aumento da relação a/c entre 0,40 e 0,50, mas é constante para a/c de 0,50 e 0,60. A redução do tamanho médio quase não interfere nas curvas de TGA. De acordo com as análises por DRX e TGA, a maior parte dos hidratos se decompõe até 500-550°C, enquanto que silicatos de cálcio e aluminatos de cálcio similares às fases anidras do cimento Portland foram detectados na pasta aquecida a 750°C. Assim, temperaturas mais altas seriam necessárias para a completa recuperação do cimento anidro em pastas hidratadas.

ABSTRACT A possible method for producing eco-efficient concrete would be the partial replacement of Portland cement by pastes and mortars residues subjected to thermal-mechanic treatment. In this context, this study evaluates the influence of water/cement (w/c) ratio and average particle size on the thermal decomposition of hydrated cement. Cement pastes with three w/c ratios (0.40, 0.50 and 0.60) and cured by 28 days were ground to obtain two particle distributions with average sizes of 0.60 mm and 0.15 mm. The thermal decomposition of pastes was analysed by thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). TGA analysis indicates that chemically bounded water content is improved by the increasing of w/c ratio between 0.40 and 0.50, but it is constant between w/c of 0.50 and 0.60. Particle size reduction almost does not interfere with TGA curves. According to XRD e TGA analysis, most hydrates are decomposed at 500-550 °C, while calcium silicates and calcium aluminates similar to the anhydrous phases of Portland cement were detected on the heated paste at 750 °C. Thus, higher temperatures would be required for the complete recovery of the anhydrous cement in hydrated pastes.

Resumo Materiais álcali ativados são aglomerantes obtidos a partir da ativação alcalina de precursores ricos em alumínio e silício. Os precursores mais comuns utilizados para ativação são as cinzas com baixo teor de cálcio, as escórias de alto forno e o metacaulim. Contudo, a cinza de cavaco de eucalipto (CCE) e o rejeito de minério de ferro (RMF) são resíduos interessantes para ser estudados como precursores devidoao volume disponível e ao impacto ambiental advindo de sua deposição final. Diante disso, por meio de ensaios de resistência à compressão, espectrometria de FTIR e microscopia eletrônica de varredura buscou-se identificar os produtos formados pela ativação alcalina da CCE e RMF. Para isso foram desenvolvidas nove pastas com proporções diferentes de CCE e RMF, utilizando como ativadores o hidróxido de sódio e o silicato de sódio. Como resultado observou-se pela espectrometria FTIR a reação entre os resíduos industriais. A resistência à compressão sugere que o material álcali ativado pode ser utilizado como blocos compactados para a alvenaria de vedação, de forma a contribuir para o desenvolvimento de materiais mais ecológicos, mitigando os impactos ambientais causados pela disposição e transformando os resíduos sólidos industriais em produtos com valor agregado.

Abstract Alkali-activated materials are agglomerates obtained from the alkaline activation of aluminum- and silicone-rich precursors. The most popular precursors for this type of activation are low-calcium fly ashes, blast furnace slag, and metakaolin. However, both high-calcium ashes (HCAs) and iron ore tailings (IOTs) are interesting wastes that can be investigated as precursors because of their available volume and environmental impact during their final deposition. Therefore, by performing tests of compressive strength, FTIR spectrometry and scanning electron microscopy, we sought to identify the products formed during HCA and IOT activation without thermal treatment. Nine mortar formulations with different HCA and IOT proportions were developed using sodium hydroxide and sodium silicate as activators. Thus, using FTIR spectrometry, we observed the reaction between the industrial wastes. Additionally, the compressive strength result suggested that the material could be used as compressed blocks in masonry walls for the development of more environmentally friendly building materials, which would mitigate the impact of waste disposal and convert industrial solid waste into value-added products.

ABSTRACT Polystyrene (PS), one of the most used polymers in everyday life, has a low recycling rate due to its inexpensive virgin resin. In order to make polystyrene waste (WPS) recycling advantageous, it is possible to change it chemically, introducing heteroatoms in the polymer chain thus transforming the waste into a material with more added value. In this work, sulfonation reactions of polystyrene waste (disposable cups and expanded polystyrene -EPS) with different degrees of sulfonation were carried out by homogeneous sulfonation using acetylsulfate as a sulfonating agent, originating polystyrene sulfonate (PSS). The characterization of the products was done using Fourier Transformed Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), solubility tests and inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy (ICP-OES). Infrared spectroscopy revealed that the reaction was efficient and all the starting materials tested were successfully sulfonated and transformed into PSS. There was no distinction between the residues tested, revealing that it's possible to carry the reaction without sorting the waste. EPS was chosen as the substrate for further reactions varying the degree of sulfonation. Solubility and ICP-OES tests have shown that, by changing the synthesis conditions, it is possible to achieve different degrees of products sulfonation. As a result of the studied reactions it was found that varying the degree of sufonation it is possible to use polystyrene residues to produce PSS for different applications.

RESUMO Devido a sua grande importância mundial, a cultura do feijoeiro requer uma produção em grande escala, tornando necessária a utilização de fertilizantes. Dentre eles, a ureia se destaca como um dos mais importantes. No entanto, observam-se perdas significativas do nitrogênio por meio de lixiviação, volatilização e desnitrificação. Para contornar esse problema, vários grupos de pesquisa têm estudado o revestimento de fertilizantes com polímeros, uma vez que, por meio deles, é possível controlar a liberação de nutrientes, bem como a sua disponibilidade no solo. Nesse contexto, o presente trabalho revestiu grânulos de ureia por meio de uma mistura simples de difenilmetano diisocianato e poliol poliéter. Foram produzidos cinco tipos de revestimentos variando as proporções dos reagentes. Todas as amostras foram caracterizadas por espectroscopia de infravermelho e microscopia eletrônica de varredura e foram realizados ensaios in vivo com Phaseolus vulgaris L.. Os espectros de infravermelho confirmaram a polimerização por meio da formação da ligação de uretana. As micrografias evidenciaram um recobrimento com espessura inferior a 30 µm. Os ensaios de liberação controlada da ureia em água mostraram que os revestimentos poliméricos retardam a liberação da ureia em aproximadamente 50 % durante um período de 200 min. Já os ensaios in vivo mostraram que a utilização da ureia com revestimentos nas proporções (em massa) de 60:40 e 50:50 (difenilmetano diisocianato/poliol poliéter) elevaram o teor de massa seca em 52 e 22 %, respectivamente. Com isso, conclui-se que é possível revestir fertilizantes nitrogenados de forma simples com eficiência, otimizando a liberação dos nutrientes no solo e tornando-os mais sustentáveis.

ABSTRACT Due to its great global importance, bean crop requires large-scale production, making necessary the usage of fertilizers. Among them, urea stands out as one of the most important. However, significant losses of nitrogen are constantly observed through leaching, volatilization and denitrification. In order to circumvent this problem, several research groups have studied the coating of fertilizers with polymers, since, through them, it is possible to control the release of nutrients as well as their availability in the soil. In this context, the present work aim son coating urea granules by means of a simple mixture of diphenylmethane diisocyanate and polyol polyether. Five types of coatings have been produced by varying the proportions of the reactants. All samples were characterized by infrared spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy. In addition, in vivo assays were performed with Phaseolus vulgaris L.. Infrared spectra confirmed the polymerization by formation of the urethane bond. The micrographs showed coating with a thickness of less than 30 μm. Controlled release urea tests in water have shown that the polymer coatings delay release of the urea by approximately 50% over a period of 200 min. The results of the in vivo tests, in turn, showed that the use of urea with coatings in the 60:40 and 50:50 mass proportions (diphenylmethane diisocyanate/polyol polyether) increased the dry mass content in 52 and 22 %, respectively. In this way, it can be concluded that it is possible to coat nitrogen fertilizers simply with efficiency, allowing the release of nutrients into the soil and making it more sustainable.

ABSTRACT Sugar cane bagasse is a residue of the sugar-alcohol industry, and its main destination is represented by burning boilers for power generation. The bagasse cogeneration of power produces a sugar cane bagasse ash (SCBA) residue that does not have a useful destination. Ashes are commonly studied as pozzolan in Portland cement production. International Standards indicate the use of pozzolan with up to 50% substitution. In the present work, we investigate the use of SCBA as an addition in Portland cement. For this purpose, Portland cement was prepared by substituting cement with 0, 10, 20, and 30% processed SCBA in volume. The ashes were processed by re-burning and grinding and were then characterized by scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, laser granulometry, X-ray fluorescence spectrometry, the Chapelle method, and pozollanic activity. To evaluate the cement with substitution, we used the mortar recommended by NBR 7215. The mechanical properties of the cements with replacement were analysed through tests of the compressive strength and flexural strength of mortars. The results appear interesting and support the possible use of SCBA in the production of cement from the aspect of mechanical properties evaluated.

ABSTRACT Portland cement pastes are highly heterogeneous material and exhibits heterogeneous features over a wide range of length scales. Mechanical properties of microstructure can be determined using depth-sensing indentation. Coupled indentation/SEM technique can be used to location the indents and provides a way to determine the mechanical properties of a specific phase. Thus, the present paper aims to determine the hardness of different phases of cement pastes prepared with different mineral admixtures including sugarcane bagasse ash. The microstmcture of cement pastes prepared with different mineral admixtures is analyzed by X ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and dynamic hardness tests on polished sections. The different backscatter coefficient allows to differentiate anhydrous phases from C-S-H, calcium hydroxide, silica fume and quartz. A grid of indentation is used to determine the hardness of the different phases and a complete phase segmentation of the different samples is achieved. The results show that the hardness of the different phases follow the sequence (from higher to lower hardness) quartz, anhydrous particles, calcium hydroxide, C-S-H and agglomerated silica fume. The presence of agglomerated silica fume is clearly observed in scanning electron microscopy images and the poor mechanical properties of these areas might compromise the cement pastes. The microstructure of cement pastes prepared with sugarcane bagasse ashes is similar to the observed in samples with crashed quartz.

The work presents the characterization of clays from sterile mining of the concentrated phosphatic materials of Araxá in Minas Gerais as pozzolanic materials. Three clays of distinct tones, namely, yellow (YC), red (RC), and intermediate (IC) clays, were used at different levels of excavation depth. The clays were calcined at three temperatures (680, 760, and 840 °C) in a muffle-type electric oven. The pozzolanic activity levels of the calcined clays was measured through the conductivity change in saturated Ca(OH)2 solutions and also from the result of the compressive failure load achieved by mortars with 35% of the Portland cement replaced with the calcined material. The results indicated that the calcined clays showed a high level of pozzolanic activity and can be used as a partial substitute for Portland cement, thus suggesting the possibility of recovering this sterile material.

Os compósitos cimentícios, comumente, são avaliados em função de sua trabalhabilidade, do teor de ar incorporado, do seu módulo de elasticidade e de resistência à compressão. Essa resistência é determinada através de ensaios de compressão axial de corpos-de-prova moldados especialmente para essa finalidade. Na execução do ensaio de compressão, é necessário que as superfícies, onde se aplicam as cargas, sejam planas, paralelas e lisas, de modo que o carregamento seja uniformemente distribuído. Para isso são utilizadas diversas técnicas e materiais, como capeamentos aderentes, não aderentes, sistemas de desgaste mecânico ou moldes especiais. Atualmente, os capeamentos mais utilizados são os que utilizam argamassas de enxofre ou almofadas de neoprene. O presente trabalho avalia, experimentalmente, a interferência de diferentes tipos de regularização das bases dos corpos-de-prova para compósitos cimentícios de diferentes classes de resistência.

Cementitious composites are commonly evaluated considering their workability, level of incorporated air, elasticity modulus and compression strength. Data from compression testing commonly present a high dispersion, which has been attributed to effects of the specimen geometry, dimensions and of the degree of material compaction, as well as to problems in the specimen end-faces, such as their parallelism, orthogonality in relation to the compression axis and surface regularity. Specimen end-face regularization has been achieved through various techniques, such as adhering or non-adhering capping with various materials, mechanical grinding and systems involving special moulds. The regularization methods utilized more frequently employ sulfur mortar capping, neoprene cushions and surface grinding. The present work covers the experimental compression tests of cementitious composites of different classes of strength employing sulfur mortar capping and neoprene cushions. It was concluded that there is a strong influence of the chosen regularization technique on the measured compression strengths.

O grande volume de resíduos sólidos industriais gerados pela indústria de batatas pré-fritas e o alto custo do seu manejo estimulam pesquisas em busca de soluções mais adequadas para a sua destinação final. Esse trabalho caracterizou o resíduo sólido (lodo) de Estação de Tratamento de Efluentes (ETE) de indústria de batatas. O lodo foi processado através de secagem, desidratação, moagem e peneiramento. Para a caracterização do lodo foram utilizadas técnicas de granulometria a laser, microscopia eletrônica de varredura (MEV) com espectrômetro de raios X dispersivo em energia (EDS), difração de raio X, análise térmica diferencial (DTA), termogravimétrica (TGA) e perda ao fogo. Após a caracterização, o lodo foi utilizado para a confecção de compósitos cimentícios, em substituição parcial do cimento, em massa equivalente para substituição do mesmo volume, determinado pelas massas específicas de ambos materiais, nas porcentagens de 3, 5, 7 e 10%. Os compósitos foram ensaiados para a obtenção da resistência à compressão e do módulo de elasticidade dinâmico. A utilização do lodo de ETE como pozolana foi descartada, tendo-se como base o resultado do ensaio de perda ao fogo. Nos ensaios mecânicos realizados, nota-se que a adição de lodo, em substituição parcial ao cimento, impactou, negativamente, de forma mais relevante a resistência à compressão. Tais ensaios foram considerados satisfatórios para os compósitos com substituição do cimento por 3% e 5% de lodo.

The large volume of industrial solid waste generated by the pre-fried potato industry and the high cost of its management encouraged researchers to find solutions best suited to its final destination. This study characterized the solid residue (sludge) from the effluents pre-fried potatoes industry's treatment station. The sludge was processed by drying, grinding and sieving. Laser particle size, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with X-ray spectrometer dispersive energy (EDS), X ray diffraction, differential thermal analysis (DTA), thermogravimetric (TGA) and loss on ignition were used to characterize the sludge. After characterization, cement was made using 3, 5, 7 and 10 percentages of the sludge to replace the cement. The composites were tested to obtain the compressive strength and dynamic elasticity modulus. Based on the result of the loss on ignition, the use of sludge as pozzolan was discarded. Based on the mechanical property tests carried out, it was noted that the addition of sludge as a partial replacement of cement is negatively impacted, with only the results of the cement composites of 3% and 5% being satisfactory.
