Studies show that Apiaceae may provide concentrated vital resources for predator insects, stimulating their abundance, diversity and persistence in agricultural systems, thereby increasing their efficiency as biological control agents. Among the predatory insects, Coccinellidae (Coleoptera) on many different species both as larvae and adults, complementing their diet with pollen and/or nectar. This study aimed to determine the diversity and relative abundance of Coccinellidae species visiting plants of Anethum graveolens (dill), Coriandrum sativum (coriander) and Foeniculum vulgare (sweet fennel) (all Apiaceae), particularly in their blooming seasons, and to evaluate the potential of these aromatic species for providing the resources for survivorship and reproduction of coccinelids. Coccinellids were collected by removal of samplings from September to October, 2007. Besides one unidentified species of Chilocorinae, five species of Coccinellinae were collected: Coleomegilla maculata DeGeer, Coleomegilla quadrifasciata (Schönherr), Cycloneda sanguinea (L.), Eriopis connexa (Germar) and Hippodamia convergens Guérin-Meneville. Dill provided a significant increase in the abundance of coccinellids as compared to coriander and sweet fennel. These aromatic species were used by coccinellids as survival and reproduction sites, providing food resources (pollen and/or prey), shelter for larvae, pupae and adults, and mating and oviposition sites as well.

Este estudo objetivou caracterizar as populações de moscas-das-frutas de três municípios da Região Norte e dois da Região Noroeste do estado do Rio de Janeiro e analisar a similaridade entre essas populações. Uma análise faunística foi desenvolvida a partir de espécimes capturados em armadilhas plásticas McPhail com uma solução aquosa de proteína hidrolisada a 5%, instaladas em pomares de goiaba (Psidium guajava L.) e/ou outras fruteiras, durante 26 meses. O total de 3.952 fêmeas de 15 espécies de Anastrepha Schiner e 277 fêmeas de Ceratitis capitata (Wied.) foi capturado. A riqueza de espécies diferiu entre os municípios, com maior valor em São Francisco do Itabapoana (S = 14), resultando no maior índice de diversidade de Shannon-Wiener (H’ = 1,27). A eqüitabilidade foi baixa para os cinco municípios, já que sempre uma determinada espécie de moscas-das-frutas apresenta-se dominante. As espécies predominantes (mais freqüentes, constantes e dominantes) foram Anastrepha obliqua (Macquart) em Campos dos Goytacazes e São Francisco do Itabapoana, Anastrepha fraterculus (Wied.) em Cambuci e Itaocara, e Anastrepha sororcula Zucchi em São João da Barra. As populações de moscas-das-frutas apresentaram baixos índices de diversidade de Margalef (alfa = 0,58 a 1,82). Quanto à composição de espécies de moscas-das-frutas, as populações em São João da Barra e Cambuci foram mais semelhantes entre si, formando um grupo distinto das populações em Campos dos Goytacazes e Itaocara. Esses dois grupos diferiram bastante da população em São Francisco do Itabapoana.

This study aimed to characterize the fruit fly populations in three municipalities of the Northern region and two municipalities of the Northwestern region of Rio de Janeiro State, Brazil, and to evaluate the similarity among their populations. A faunistic analysis was performed from the fruit fly specimens captured in plastic McPhail traps with an aqueous solution of hydrolyzed protein to 5% placed in orchards of guava (Psidium guajava L.) and/or other fruits during 26 months. The total of 3,952 females of 15 species of Anastrepha Schiner and 277 females of Ceratitis capitata (Wied.) was captured. The species richness differed among the municipalities, with the highest value in São Francisco do Itabapoana (S = 14), resulting on the highest Shannon-Wiener index (H’ = 1.27). The equitability was low in the five municipalities due to the dominance of one unique fruit fly species. The predominant species (more frequent, constant and dominant) were Anastrepha obliqua (Macquart) in Campos dos Goytacazes and São Francisco do Itabapoana, Anastrepha fraterculus (Wied.) in Cambuci and Itaocara, and Anastrepha sororcula Zucchi in São João da Barra. Fruit fly populations had low diversity index of Margalef (alpha = 0.58 to 1.82). Regarding to fruit fly species composition, the populations in São João da Barra and Cambuci were more similar between each other, composing a distinct group from the populations in Campos dos Goytacazes and Itaocara. These two groups differed quite a lot from the population in São Francisco do Itabapoana.

Foram determinados os índices de infestação por moscas-das-frutas em seis cultivares de Coffea arabica L. nos sistemas com e sem arborização, sob manejo orgânico. O delineamento experimental foi inteiramente casualizado com parcelas sub-subdivididas e quatro repetições. Uma amostra de 250 g de frutos maduros por parcela foi colhida em maio de 2005. As cultivares ‘Icatu Amarelo’ e ‘Catucaí Amarelo’ mostraram menor susceptibilidade aos tefritídeos, nos dois sistemas de cultivo. Quanto aos lonqueídeos, ‘Oeiras’, ‘Catucaí Amarelo’ e ‘Catuaí Vermelho’ foram as cultivares menos susceptíveis no sistema arborizado, não havendo diferença entre as cultivares no sistema sem arborização. Dos frutos foram obtidas as seguintes espécies de Tephritidae: Ceratitis capitata (Wiedemann), Anastrepha fraterculus (Wiedemann) e A. sororcula Zucchi (Tephritidae). Os lonqueídeos foram representados por: Neosilba bifida Strikis & Prado, N. certa (Walker), N. glaberrima (Wiedemann), N. pendula (Bezzi), N. pseudopendula (Korytkowski & Ojeda), Dasiops rugifrons Hennig, Neosilba n.sp.10 e Neosilba n.sp.14.

The infestation indices by fruit flies were determined for six cultivars of Coffea arabica L. in shaded and unshaded systems under organic management. The experiment was set in a completely randomized design with a split-split-plot arrangement and four replicates. A 250g-sample of maturing fruits per plot was harvested in May 2005. The cultivars ‘Icatu Amarelo’ and ‘Catucaí Amarelo’ were the least susceptible to attack by tephritids in both systems. As for lonchaeids, ‘Oeiras’, ‘Catucaí Amarelo’ and ‘Catuaí Vermelho’ were the least susceptible cultivars in the shaded system, and there was no difference among the cultivars in the unshaded system. The following tephritid species were obtained: Ceratitis capitata (Wiedemann), Anastrepha fraterculus (Wiedemann) and A. sororcula Zucchi (Tephritidae). Lonchaeids were represented by Neosilba bifida Strikis & Prado, N. certa (Walker), N. glaberrima (Wiedemann), N. pendula (Bezzi), N. pseudopendula (Korytkowski and Ojeda), Dasiops rugifrons Hennig, Neosilba n.sp.10 and Neosilba n.sp.14.

Este estudo descreve a fauna de insetos predadores, parasitóides e formigas associada a pulgões em couve (Brassica oleracea L. var. acephala D.C.), cultivada em sistema orgânico. O pulgão foi identificado como Lipaphis pseudobrassicae Davis, sendo este o primeiro registro da espécie atacando couve no Brasil. Parasitismo primário por Diaeretiella sp. e Aphidius sp. e hiperparasitismo por Aphydencyrtus sp., Alloxysta sp., Pachyneuron sp. e Syrphophagus sp. foram observados. Vinte espécies de Coccinellidae foram coletadas, sendo que oito delas foram observadas, tanto na fase adulta como larval, atacando o pulgão: Hyperaspis (Hyperaspis) festiva Mulsant, que foi a mais abundante (72,5% do total de insetos predadores obtidos), Cycloneda sanguinea (L.), Eriopis connexa Germar, Coleomegilla maculata DeGeer, Hippodamia convergens Guérin, Heterodiomus sp., Scymnus (Pullus) sp.1 e Scymnus (Pullus) sp.2. Larvas de Syrphidae afidófagas coletadas nas folhas de couve infestadas por L. pseudobrassicae pertencem às espécies Allograpta exotica (Wiedemann) e Ocyptamus gastrostactus (Wiedemann). Larvas e pupas de Syrphidae foram parasitadas por Pachyneuron sp., Syrphophagus sp. e Diplazon laetatorius Fabricius. Larvas de Chrysopodes sp. foram observadas alimentando-se de L. pseudobrassicae. Espécies de formigas associadas às colônias desse pulgão foram Ectatomma quadridens Fabricius e Pheidole sp.

This study describes the fauna of predator insects, parasitoids and ants associated with aphids on kale (Brassica oleracea L. var. acephala D.C.) in organic system. The aphid was identified as Lipaphis pseudobrassicae Davis, and this is the first record of the species attacking kale in Brazil. Primary parasitism by Diaeretiella sp. and Aphidius sp. and hyperparasitism by Aphydencyrtus sp., Alloxysta sp., Pachyneuron sp. and Syrphophagus sp. were observed. Twenty species of Coccinellidae were collected, and eight of them were observed in adult and larval stages attacking the aphid: Hyperaspis (Hyperaspis) festiva Mulsant, which was the most abundant (72.5% of all predator insects obtained), Cycloneda sanguinea (L.), Eriopis connexa Germar, Coleomegilla maculata DeGeer, Hippodamia convergens Guérin, Heterodiomus sp., Scymnus (Pullus) sp.1 and Scymnus (Pullus) sp.2. Aphidophagous Syrphidae larvae collected on leaves of kale infested by L. pseudobrassicae belong to the species Allograpta exotica (Wiedemann) and Ocyptamus gastrostactus (Wiedemann). Larvae and pupae of Syrphidae were parasitized by Pachyneuron sp., Syrphophagus sp. and Diplazon laetatorius Fabricius. Larvae of Chrysopodes sp. were observed feeding on L. pseudobrassicae. Species of ants associated with the colony of this aphid were Ectatomma quadridens Fabricius and Pheidole sp.

As moscas frugívoras vêm assumindo grande importância econômica em cafezais por provocarem queda prematura de frutos e redução significativa da qualidade da bebida. O café é um repositório natural de espécies de Tephritidae que infestam frutas de importância econômica. Este estudo avaliou a influência dos sistemas de café sombreado e a pleno sol, sob manejo orgânico, na infestação natural de frutos de Coffea arabica L. Icatu Amarelo por moscas frugívoras. Um experimento inteiramente casualizado foi instalado em Valença, RJ, com dois tratamentos (café sombreado com Musa sp. e Erithrina verna Vell. e solteiro a pleno sol) e quatro repetições. Uma amostra de 1 kg de frutos maduros por parcela foi colhida em março de 2004 para avaliar a infestação e identificar as espécies infestantes. O índice médio de infestação dos frutos foi significativamente maior no sistema sombreado. Quatro espécies de Tephritidae (Ceratitis capitata (Wiedemann), Anastrepha fraterculus (Wiedemann), Anastrepha obliqua (Macquart) e Anastrepha sororcula Zucchi) e seis de Lonchaeidae (Neosilba pendula (Bezzi), Neosilba pseudopendula (Korytkowski and Ojeda), Neosilba certa (Walker), Neosilba glaberrima (Wiedemann), Neosilba n.sp.9 e Neosilba n.sp.10) foram obtidas dos frutos de café. Nove espécies de parasitóides foram identificadas, das quais seis pertencem a Braconidae (Asobara anastrephae (Muesebeck), Doryctobracon areolatus (Szépligeti), Doryctobracon brasiliensis (Szépligeti), Utetes anastrephae (Viereck), Opius bellus Gahan e Opius sp.) e três a Figitidae (Aganaspis pelleranoi (Brèthes), Dicerataspis flavipes (Kieffer) e Odontosema anastrephae Borgmeier). A percentagem de parasitismo total foi de 8,8% e 12,4% em café sombreado e a pleno sol, respectivamente.

Frugivorous flies have been acquiring great economic importance in coffee crop because they cause premature dropping of coffee beans and significantly decrease the quality of the beverage. The coffee plant is also a natural reservoir of Tephritidae species that infest fruits of economic importance. This study evaluated the influence of the shaded and unshaded coffee systems, under organic management, on the natural infestation of fruits of Coffea arabica L. var. Icatu Amarelo by frugivorous flies. An experiment in completely randomized design was carried out in Valença, RJ, Brazil, with two treatments (shaded coffee with Musa sp. and Erithrina verna Vell. and unshaded coffee monoculture) and four replicates. A 1kg-sample of maturing fruits per plot was harvested in Mach 2004 to evaluate infestation and identify the flies. The mean infestation index was significantly higher in the shaded coffee system. Four species of Tephritidae (Ceratitis capitata (Wiedemann), Anastrepha fraterculus (Wiedemann), Anastrepha obliqua (Macquart) and Anastrepha sororcula Zucchi), and six of Lonchaeidae (Neosilba pendula (Bezzi), Neosilba pseudopendula (Korytkowski and Ojeda), Neosilba certa (Walker), Neosilba glaberrima (Wiedemann), Neosilba n.sp.9 and Neosilba n.sp.10) were recovered from coffee fruits. Nine parasitoid species were obtained, six belonging to Braconidae (Asobara anastrephae (Muesebeck), Doryctobracon areolatus (Szépligeti), Doryctobracon brasiliensis (Szépligeti), Utetes anastrephae (Viereck), Opius bellus Gahan and Opius sp.), and three to Figitidae (Aganaspis pelleranoi (Brèthes), Dicerataspis flavipes (Kieffer) and Odontosema anastrephae Borgmeier). The total percent parasitism was 8.8% and 12.4% in the shaded and unshaded coffee systems, respectively.

Este trabalho objetivou caracterizar as populações de moscas-das-frutas de quatro municípios da Região Noroeste do estado do Rio de Janeiro (Bom Jesus do Itabapoana, Italva, Itaperuna e Natividade), desenvolvendo-se uma análise faunística dos espécimes coletados em armadilhas plásticas tipo McPhail, em pomares comerciais de goiaba (Psidium guajava L.) e laranja doce (Citrus sinensis Osbeck) e em pomares caseiros diversificados, durante dois anos. Foram coletadas 29.909 fêmeas de Ceratitis capitata (Wied.) e 27.621 fêmeas de 16 espécies Anastrepha Schiner. O maior valor do índice de Shannon foi registrado para Bom Jesus do Itabapoana (H = 0,96), confirmando o maior número de espécies capturadas nesse município (S = 14). As populações de moscas-das-frutas apresentaram baixos índices de diversidade (alfa = 1,1 - 1,5). As espécies predominantes (mais freqüente, mais abundante, constante e dominante) foram C. capitata em Natividade e Bom Jesus do Itabapoana e A. fraterculus em Italva e Itaperuna. Quanto à composição de espécies de moscas-das-frutas, as populações de Natividade e Bom Jesus do Itabapoana foram mais semelhantes entre si, formando um grupo distinto das populações de moscas-das-frutas de Italva e Itaperuna, que formaram um outro grupo.

This paper aimed to characterize the fruit fly populations in four municipalities of the Northwest region of Rio de Janeiro State (Bom Jesus do Itabapoana, Italva, Itaperuna and Natividade), performing a faunistic analysis of the specimens of fruit fly collected with plastic McPhail traps in commercial orchards of guava (Psidium guajava L.) and orange (Citrus sinensis Osbeck), and backyard gardens during a two year period. The total of 29,909 females of Ceratitis capitata (Wied.) and 27,621 females belong to 16 species of Anastrepha Schiner was collected. The highest value of the Shannon index was reported in Bom Jesus do Itabapoana (H = 0.96), as well as highest species richness (S = 14). Fruit fly populations had low diversity indexes (alpha = 1.1 - 1.5). The predominant species (more frequent, more abundant, constant and dominant) were C. capitata in Natividade and Bom Jesus do Itabapoana, and A. fraterculus (Wied.) in Italva and Itaperuna. Regarding fruit fly species composition, the population in Natividade and Bom Jesus do Itabapoana were more similar between each other, composing a distinct group of the fruit fly populations from Italva and Itaperuna, which composed another group.

Este trabalho constitui o primeiro registro de Anastrepha barbiellinii Lima, A. bistrigata Bezzi, A. manihoti Lima, A. minensis Lima e A. zenildae Zucchi no estado do Rio de Janeiro, totalizando 26 espécies de Anastrepha registradas no estado.

This paper reports the first record of the following Anastrepha species in the state of Rio de Janeiro: A. barbiellinii Lima, A. bistrigata Bezzi, A. manihoti Lima, A. minensis Lima and A. zenildae Zucchi. The number of Anastrepha species recorded in this state increased to 26.

Este trabalho avaliou a infestação de duas espécies de maracujá por tefritídeos e lonqueídeos em dois municípios produtores do Sudeste do Brasil. Botões florais de maracujá doce (Passiflora alata) e maracujá azedo (Passiflora edulis f. flavicarpa) foram coletados em Seropédica (RJ) e Vila Valério (ES), respectivamente. Frutos de P. alata foram também coletados em Seropédica. Três espécies de Lonchaeidae foram obtidas de botões florais de P. alata (Neosilba zadolicha McAlpine & Steyskal, Neosilba sp. e Dasiops longulus Norrbom & McAlpine), e espécies de quatro gêneros de Tephritoidea foram obtidas de frutos: Anastrepha pseudoparallela Loew (Tephritidae), Dasiops frieseni Norrbom & McAlpine (Lonchaeidae), Euxesta sp. e Notogramma cimiciforme Loew (Otitidae). Exemplares de Ganaspis sp. (Figitidae: Eucoilinae) foram obtidos de alguns frutos de maracujá doce infestados por tefritídeos ou lonqueídeos. Dos botões florais de maracujá azedo, foram obtidos apenas espécimes de Dasiops inedulis Steyskal (Lonchaeidae). Parasitóides do gênero Opius Wesmael (Braconidae: Opiinae) foram também coletados associados a essa espécie de mosca.

This paper evaluated the infestation of two passion fruit species by tephritids and lonchaeids in two municipalities of southeastern Brazil. Floral buds of sweet passion fruit (Passiflora alata) and yellow passion fruit (Passiflora edulis f. flavicarpa) were collected in Seropédica (RJ) and Vila Valério (ES), respectively. Fruits of P. alata were also collected in Seropédica. Three species of Lonchaeidae were obtained from floral buds of P. alata (Neosilba zadolicha McAlpine & Steyskal, Neosilba sp. and Dasiops longulus Norrbom & McAlpine), and species of four genera of Tephritoidea were obtained from fruits: Anastrepha pseudoparallela Loew (Tephritidae), Dasiops frieseni Norrbom & McAlpine (Lonchaeidae), Euxesta sp. and Notogramma cimiciforme Loew (Otitidae). Specimens of Ganaspis sp. (Figitidae: Eucoilinae) were recovered from some sweet passion fruits infested by tephritids or lonchaeids. Only specimens of Dasiops inedulis Steyskal (Lonchaeidae) were obtained from floral buds of yellow passion fruit. Parasitoids belonging to the genus Opius Wesmael (Braconidae: Opiinae) were also collected in association with this fly species.

Este estudo relata a primeira ocorrência de Coptera haywardi Loiácono como parasitóide de pupa de Tephritidae que infestam frutos no Brasil. Este diapriídeo foi obtido de frutos de Eugenia uniflora (pitanga) infestados por Anastrepha fraterculus (Wiedemann) e/ou Anastrepha sororcula Zucchi. Foram também identificadas outras duas espécies de parasitóides de pupa: Pachrycrepoideus vindemmiae Rondani e Spalangia endius Walker (Pteromalidae). Quatro espécies de parasitóides de larva-pupa foram também obtidas: Doryctobracon areolatus (Szépligeti), Utetes (Bracanastrepha) anastrephae (Viereck), Opius bellus Gahan (Braconidae) e Aganaspis pelleranoi (Brèthes) (Figitidae).

This study reports the first occurrence of Coptera haywardi Loiácono as a pupal parasitoid of fruit-infesting Tephritidae in Brazil. We reared this diapriid from fruits of Eugenia uniflora (Surinam cherry) infested by Anastrepha fraterculus (Wiedemann) and/or Anastrepha sororcula Zucchi. We also identified two other species of pupal parasitoids: Pachrycrepoideus vindemmiae Rondani and Spalangia endius Walker (Pteromalidae). Four species of larval-pupal parasitoids were also recorded: Doryctobracon areolatus (Szépligeti), Utetes (Bracanastrepha) anastrephae (Viereck), Opius bellus Gahan (Braconidae) and Aganaspis pelleranoi (Brèthes) (Figitidae).

Este trabalho avaliou a influência do tempo de permanência do fruto no campo, após sua queda, no parasitismo natural de Anastrepha spp. Em fevereiro/2000, três árvores de serigüela (Spondias purpurea L.) e três goiabeiras (Psidium guajava L.) foram selecionadas na Universidade Federal Rural do Rio de Janeiro. Foram coletados 250 frutos infestados por árvore, cinqüenta dos quais foram levados diretamente para o laboratório para obtenção de pupas de Tephritidae (frutos sem exposição no campo - tempo zero). Os demais frutos foram divididos em quatro amostras colocadas em bandejas plásticas com areia, dispostas sob a copa das árvores. Após cada dois dias, os frutos de uma bandeja eram levados para o laboratório. Em serigüela, foram obtidas 1123 moscas do gênero Anastrepha [A. obliqua (Macquart) e A. fraterculus (Wiedemann)] e 1880 parasitóides Hymenoptera (Braconidae, Figitidae e Pteromalidae). Em goiaba, foram obtidos 4714 adultos de Anastrepha spp. (A. obliqua, A. fraterculus e A. sororcula Zucchi) e 383 parasitóides Hymenoptera (Braconidae, Figitidae e Pteromalidae). A mais alta percentagem de parasitismo causada pelos Braconidae (67,2% em serigüela e 6,4% em goiaba) foi registrada no tempo zero, sugerindo ter preferência em procurar por suas larvas hospedeiras em frutos ainda presos à planta. A maior percentagem de parasitismo causada pelos Figitidae (2,8% em serigüela e 4,7% em goiaba) ocorreu aos seis dias de permanência dos frutos no campo. Para os Pteromalidae, registrou-se a maior percentagem de parasitismo em frutos que permaneceram no campo por oito dias (2,4% em serigüela e 1,9% em goiaba).

The present work evaluated the influence of time of permanence of the fruit in the field after its abscission on natural parasitism of Anastrepha spp. In February 2000, three trees of Spanish prune (Spondias purpurea L.) and three guava tree (Psidium guajava L.) were selected in the Universidade Federal Rural do Rio de Janeiro, State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Sampling consisted of 250 infested fruits collected per tree. Fifty of them were taken immediately to the laboratory in order to obtain Tephritidae pupae (0-day exposure). The remaining fruits were divided in four batches and placed in plastic trays on a layer of sand, underneath the tree canopy. Every other day, the fruits of one tray were transported to the laboratory (2, 4, 6 and 8 days exposure). A total of 1,123 flies of the genus Anastrepha [A. obliqua (Macquart) and A. fraterculus (Wiedemann)] and 1,880 Hymenopteran parasitoids (Braconidae, Figitidae and Pteromalidae) were recovered from Spanish prune. From guava, 4,714 adults of Anastrepha spp. (A. obliqua, A. fraterculus and A. sororcula Zucchi) and 383 Hymenopteran parasitoids (Braconidae, Figitidae and Pteromalidae) were obtained. The highest percent parasitism by Braconidae (67.2% in Spanish prune and 6.4% in guava) was recorded on fruits of 0-day, suggesting that they would prefer the larvae in the fruits while on the tree. For Figitidae the higher percent parasitism (2.8% in Spanish prune and 4.7% in guava) occurred on fruits present for six days in the field and for Pteromalidae in fruits present for eight days (2.4% in Spanish prune and 1.9% in guava).

O presente estudo foi conduzido com o objetivo de avaliar variações anuais na abundância de parasitóides Opiinae e nas suas percentagens de parasitismo em larvas de Anastrepha spp., sob a influência de fatores climáticos e da disponibilidade dos frutos hospedeiros em Seropédica, RJ. Os opiíneos Doryctobracon areolatus (Szépligeti), Utetes (Bracanastrepha) anastrephae (Viereck) e Opius bellus Gahan foram coletados em associação com cinco espécies de Anastrepha: A. fraterculus (Wied.), A. leptozona Hendel, A. obliqua (Macquart), A. serpentina (Wied.) e A. sororcula Zucchi. Nos dois anos de amostragem (1998 e 1999), D. areolatus foi a espécie mais abundante e esteve presente em todos os meses de coleta. U. anastrephae e O. bellus não ocorreram nas amostras de frutos coletadas durante o inverno (junho a agosto). Observou-se que esses opiíneos responderam similarmente às variações sazonais das condições climáticas (precipitação e temperatura) e do número de moscas emergidas. Embora as percentagens de parasitismo de Anastrepha pelas três espécies de Opiinae não se tenham correlacionado com os fatores climáticos, houve uma tendência dos parasitóides exercerem mais ativamente seu parasitismo nos meses mais quentes e chuvosos do ano (verão). Esses meses caracterizaram-se por maior disponibilidade de frutos nativos. As correlações entre o número mensal de adultos de cada espécie de parasitóides e as médias mensais de precipitação e temperatura foram significativas e positivas. Não houve correlação com a umidade relativa do ar. As três espécies de parasitóides foram mais abundantes nos períodos relativamente mais quentes e chuvosos do ano (verão, dezembro a fevereiro, e outono, março a maio). Decréscimos de temperatura e precipitação pluviométrica, registrados a partir de maio, determinaram a diminuição no número de parasitóides e moscas emergidos durante o inverno. Verificou-se também que as flutuações das populações dos opiíneos, entre as estações, foram significativamente correlacionadas com as variações numéricas nas populações das espécies de Anastrepha, indicando uma relação dependente da densidade direta. Observou-se também que os opiíneos tornaram-se mais efetivos em altas densidades de seus hospedeiros, indicando exibir baixa capacidade de encontrá-los.

The present study was conducted to evaluate annual changes in the abundance of the parasitoids Opiinae and in their percentage of parasitism in Anastrepha larvae under influence of the climatic factors and the availability of host fruits in Seropedica, RJ, Brazil. The Opiinae Doryctobracon areolatus (Szépligeti), Utetes (Bracanastrepha) anastrephae (Viereck) and Opius bellus Gahan were collected in association with five species of Anastrepha: A. fraterculus (Wied.), A. leptozona Hendel, A. obliqua (Macquart), A. serpentina (Wied.) and A. sororcula Zucchi. During both years of sampling (1998 and 1999), D. areolatus was the most abundant species and was present in all monthly collections. U. anastrephae and O. bellus were not present in the fruit samples collected during winter (June to August). These Opiinae responded similarly to seasonal changes in climatic conditions and number of emerged flies. Although the percentages of parasitism of Anastrepha by the three species of Opiinae were not correlated with the climatic factors studied, there was a tendency of the parasitoids to parasitize more actively in the warmer and wetter months of the year (summer). In these months, the highest availability of native fruit hosts was also observed. The correlations between monthly number of adults of each parasitoid species and the average monthly rainfall and mean temperature were significant and positives. There was no correlation with the average monthly relative humidity. The three species of parasitoids were more abundant during the warmer and wetter period of the year (summer, December to February, and autumn, March to May). Decreasing of temperature and rainfall recorded from May determined a reduction in the number of parasitoid and flies emerged during winter. The fluctuations in number of Opiinae between seasons were significantly correlated with the changes in numbers of Anastrepha populations, indicating a direct density-dependent relationship. The Opiinae become more effective at high host densities, indicating that they exhibit a low host-searching capacity.
