ABSTRACT Flooding periods directly interfere with the availability of oxygen in the soil, affecting the aerobic processes of the plants. In this study, we aimed to: (i) characterize the effects of water excess soil on cassava growth; (ii) identify management practices that reduce the impact of water excess on cassava yield; and (iii) to know the crop potential yield for the study region in order to quantify the yield loss caused by water excess. The effects of water excess were evaluated through experiments in pots and in the field. The physiological and morphological response of cassava plants under water excess in a controllable environment indicated greater damage to cassava after exposure of 96 and 120 hours of water excess. Every 24 hours of water excess, about 20% of the plants did not emerge and, after 96 hours of excess, the emergence was null. The use of raised seedbeds was a management practice that ensured 62.6% of plant establishment, allowing cassava yields of up to 16.9 Mg ha-1. The potential yield to Santa Maria in the 2018/2019 crop year was 43.9 Mg ha-1 of cassava roots. Resumo O objetivo deste estudo foi determinar a duração das fases vegetativa e reprodutiva, e a relação entre o ciclo de desenvolvimento total e as fases de desenvolvimento em cultivares de dálias de corte em condições de campo. Foram realizados dez ensaios em lavouras comerciais utilizando de dois a oito cultivares de dálias de corte durante três anos (2021 a 2023) em oito locais no estado do Rio Grande do Sul, sul do Brasil. Os tubérculos foram plantados em canteiros com 1,0 m de largura e 0,2 m de altura, com espaçamento de 0,40 m x 0,40 m e a uma profundidade de 0,05 m. A data de emergência da cultura foi considerada quando 50% das plantas haviam emergido. O broto principal de 10 plantas por cultivar foi marcado. Abstract The objective in this study was to determine the duration of the vegetative and the reproductive phases, as the relationship between total developmental cycle and developmental phases in on-farm cut dahlia cultivars. Ten on farm trials using two to eight cut dahlia cultivars during three years (2021 to 2023) at eight locations in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Southern Brazil, were used. Resumo O objetivo deste trabalho foi estimar a produtividade relativa que maximiza a rentabilidade da lavoura de soja rotacionada com arroz irrigado por inundação. Para tanto, 13 áreas (de 2,6 a 5,2 ha) de alta produção em sistemas soja-arroz, em terras baixas, na região Sul do Brasil foram selecionadas antes da semeadura. O cálculo dos custos de produção incluiu sementes, tratamento de sementes, fertilizantes, calcário, defensivos agrícolas, irrigação, terra, operações terceirizadas, mão de obra e consumo de combustível. A produtividade observada foi transformada em produtividade relativa, ao se multiplicar o quociente da produtividade observada pelo potencial produtivo estimado pelo modelo CSM-CROPGRO-Soybean. A produtividade hídrica foi calculada como a razão entre a produtividade observada e a água disponível durante o ciclo da cultura. Abstract The objective of this work was to estimate the relative yield that maximizes the profitability of the soybean crop in rotation with flood-irrigated rice. For this, 13 high-yield areas (from 2.6 to 5.2 ha) in lowland soybean-rice systems in Southern Brazil were selected before sowing. The calculation of production costs included seeds, seed treatment, fertilizers, lime, pesticides, irrigation, land, operational outsourcing, labor, and fuel consumption. The observed yield was transformed into relative yield by multiplying the quotient of the observed yield by the yield potential estimated by the CSM-CROPGRO-Soybean model. Water productivity was calculated as the ratio between the observed yield and available water during the crop cycle. ABSTRACT It is projected an increase of about 30% in the world population by 2050 and a food demand increase by 60%, mainly vegetable proteins. Due to this, soybean is being introduced in new production systems, such as in rotation with irrigated rice in lowlands. Irrigated and non-irrigated experiments were conducted in order to determine the influence of irrigation on maturity groups, on yield components and yield in lowlands. Five soybean cultivars with maturity groups (MG) ranging from 4.8 to 7.8 were used, representing the cultivars sowing in southern Brazil, and three sowings were performed (October, November and January). A decrease in the number of pods m-2 was observed with the delay in the sowing date in both water regimes and MG, except MG 4.8 and 5.5, which had a higher number of pods m-2 when irrigated and sown in November. Resumo O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a tolerância de cultivares de soja (Glycine max) ao estresse por alagamento, em diferentes estádios de crescimento. O experimento foi realizado em arranjo fatorial 2x2x5, com duas épocas de semeadura (outubro e novembro), duas cultivares de soja (TECIRGA 6070RR e NA 5909 RG) e cinco fases de desenvolvimento (SE-EM, EM-VC, VC-V2, V2-V4 e V6-V8), nos anos agrícolas 2018/2019 e 2019/2020. Abstract The objective of this work was to evaluate the tolerance of soybean (Glycine max) cultivars to flooding stress at different growth stages. The experiment was arranged in a 2x2x5 factorial arrangement, with two sowing dates (October and November), two soybean cultivars (TECIRGA 6070RR and NA 5909 RG), and five growth stages (SE-EM, EM-VC, VC-V2, V2-V4, and V6-V8) in the 2018/2019 and 2019/2020 crop years. The experimental design was completely randomized with four replicates. For both evaluated soybean cultivars, the growth stage most sensitive to soil flooding was SE-EM. After seedling emergence, the highest reductions in leaf area and shoot dry matter were observed in the V2-V4 stage, regardless of cultivar, sowing date, and crop year. From the V4 stage onwards, soybean shows a higher tolerance to flooding conditions. Resumo A dália é uma importante cultura ornamental e amplamente utilizada como planta de jardim em canteiros e bordaduras mistas, bem como flor de corte em buquês e arranjos florais. O entendimento dos fatores que propiciam uma produção sustentável de flores é essencial para que os produtores de dálias aumentem seus lucros. Duas variáveis-chave que definem o desenvolvimento da folha durante a fase vegetativa de uma cultura são a taxa de aparecimento de folhas na haste principal e o número final de folhas. O objetivo deste trabalho foi determinar o filocrono e o número final de pares de folhas em cultivares de dálias de corte em diferentes localidades. Três experimentos em fazendas variando de dois a oito cultivares de dália de corte foram conduzidos durante dois anos (2021/2022) em seis localidades do estado do Rio Grande do Sul, sul do Brasil. O número de pares de folhas desdobradas (NLP - uma folha desdobrada foi assumida quando as bordas folioladas não se tocavam mais) em cada planta foi contado uma ou duas vezes por semana, dependendo da fazenda, até que o último par de folhas fosse desdobrado. Abstract Dahlia is an important ornamental crop and widely used as a garden plant in beds and mixed borders as well as a cut flower in bouquets and flower arrangements. Understanding the factors that support sustainable flower production is essential for dahlia growers to increase their profits. Two key variables that define leaf development during the vegetative phase of a crop are the rate of appearance of leaves on the main stem and the final number of leaves. The objective in this study was to determine the phyllochron and the final leaf pair number (FLPN) in cut dahlias cultivars grown in different locations. Three on farm experiments varying from two to eight cut dahlia cultivars were conducted during two years (2021/2022) in six locations in Rio Grande do Sul State, Southern Brazil. The number of unfolded leaf pairs (NLP - an unfolded leaf was assumed when the foliolates edges were not touching anymore) on each plant was counted once or twice a week, depending on the farm, until the last leaf pair was unfolded. Estima-se que as altas temperaturas e a duração de ondas de calor extremo sejam mais frequentes nas próximas décadas. Portanto, entender e determinar a alta temperatura que causa danos irreversíveis nas flores da dália é de grande interesse para preparar os agricultores para mitigar e adaptar sua cultura às mudanças climáticas. O objetivo deste estudo foi determinar a temperatura letal superior que causa danos irreversíveis em botões e flores de dália cultivada a campo. Culturas comerciais de dálias cultivadas a campo em cinco locais no estado do Rio Grande do Sul (RS), sul do Brasil, durante duas temporadas de cultivo (2021/22 e 2022/23) foram utilizadas neste estudo. Abstract Dahlia is an ornamental plant well adapted to open field cultivation and is one of the crops in the “Flowers for All” Project, a nation-wide extension project. High temperatures and the duration of extreme heat waves are expected to be more frequent in the next decades. Therefore, understanding and determining the high temperature that causes irreversible damage in Dahlia flowers is of high interest for preparing farmers to mitigate and adapt their crop to climate change. The objective of this study was to determine the upper lethal temperature that causes irreversible damage on buds and flowers on open field grown dahlia. Commercial open field dahlia crops in five locations in Rio Grande do Sul (RS) State, Southern Brazil, during two growing seasons (2021/22 and 2022/23) were used in this study. During the period from 20 December 2021 to 30 January 2022 and from 14 January 2023 to 20 January 2023, daily observations were made in the dahlias in the five locations in order to identify symptoms of heat stress on leaves, buds and flowers such as leaf rolling, wilting, dry leaf edges, sunscald, burning and rotting. The appearance of those symptoms was correlated with maximum daily air temperature in order to estimate the lethal temperature. ABSTRACT The objective was to study the adaptability and stability of soybean cultivars in the lowland production system under different conditions in a subtropical environment. Fourteen soybean cultivars were evaluated in five locations and three growing seasons in Rio Grande do Sul State, Brazil. Three sowing dates were evaluated in each location and growing season and named as: early, recommended for high yield and recommended to minimize the risk of water deficiency. The experiment was carried out in a randomized complete block design, with three replicates. Yield data was submitted to analysis of variance, and the Eberhart and Russel method was used to study its adaptability and stability. In general, the cultivars that showed adaptability and stability to the three sowing dates showed MG between 5.6 to 6.4 and the type of indeterminate growth. The cultivars A6411 RG, TEC 5936 IPRO and TECIRGA 6070 RR combined wide adaptability and stability, the cultivars Fundacep 65 RR and 6869 RSF RR presented high yield and stability of production and are recommended for lowland environments.

Resumo O objetivo deste trabalho foi determinar a densidade agronômica ótima de plantas (DAOP) para o milho (Zea mays), em ambientes de alta, média e baixa produtividade de grãos, bem como definir qual componente da produtividade é mais sensível às variações de densidade de plantas. Experimentos em fazenda foram conduzidos nos municípios de Júlio de Castilhos, na safra de 2018/2019, e de Entre-Ijuís, Jóia, Agudo e Júlio de Castilhos, na safra de 2019/2020, no estado do Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil. Os ambientes de produção foram classificados como de baixa (< 10 Mg ha-1), média (de 10 a 16 Mg ha-1) e alta (> 16 Mg ha-1) produtividade. Júlio de Castilhos foi identificado como ambiente de alta produtividade; Jóia e Entre-Ijuís, como de média produtividade; e Agudo, como de baixa produtividade. As DAOPs variaram de 60.000 a 140.000 plantas por hectare nos diferentes ambientes de produção. A DAOP foi de 110.300 a 116.200 plantas por hectare para o ambiente de alta produtividade, de 101.000 plantas por hectare para o ambiente de média produtividade e de 60.000 plantas per hectare para o ambiente de baixa produtividade. O número de grãos por fileira é o componente de rendimento mais sensível às variações de densidade de plantas, em todos os ambientes de produção.

Abstract The objective of this work was to determine the agronomic optimal plant density (AOPD) for corn (Zea mays) in environments with a high, medium, and low grain yield, as well as to define which yield component is the most sensitive to variations in plant density. On-farm experiments were conducted in the municipalities of Júlio de Castilhos, in the 2018/2019 growing season, and of Entre-Ijuís, Jóia, Agudo, and Júlio de Castilhos, in the 2019/2020 growing season, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. The production environments were classified as having a low (< 10 Mg ha-1), medium (from 10 to 16 Mg ha-1), and high (> 16 Mg ha-1) grain yield. Júlio de Castilhos was identified as a site of high yield; Jóia and Entre-Ijuís, as of medium yield; and Agudo, as of low yield. The AOPDs ranged from 60,000 to 140,000 plants per hectare in the different production environments. The AOPD was of 110,300 to 116,200 plants per hectare for the high-yield environment, 101,000 plants per hectare for the medium-yield environment, and 60,000 plants per hectare for the low-yield environment. The number of grains per row is the yield component that is the most sensitive to variations in plant density in all production environments.

Resumo O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar um método de previsão de safra para arroz irrigado por inundação no estado do Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil, por meio do modelo SimulArroz. Utilizou-se a versão 1.1 desse modelo e dados meteorológicos históricos, com seis cenários compostos pelos seguintes níveis de informação em campo: datas de semeadura (1 a 4) e número de cultivares e/ou ciclos de desenvolvimento (1 a 3) durante quatro safras (2014/2015 a 2017/2018). A raiz quadrada média do erro (RQME), para comparação da produtividade real com a produtividade simulada para o Rio Grande do Sul, foi de 618,3 e 1.024,8 kg ha−1, isto é, de 8 e 13%, respectivamente. A previsão de safra de arroz com aplicação do modelo SimulArroz e dados meteorológicos históricos para o Rio Grande do Sul apresenta boa capacidade preditiva quanto à produtividade, e o cenário recomendado para a previsão é o complex 1, com uso de três épocas de semeadura por local e das três cultivares mais representativas por região.

Abstract The objective of this work was to evaluate a flooded-rice yield forecasting method for the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, using the SimulArroz model. Version 1.1 of this model and historical meteorological data were used, with six different scenarios composed of the following levels of field information: number of sowing dates (1 to 4) and number of cultivars and/or development cycles (1 to 3) during four growing seasons (2014/2015 to 2017/2018). The root mean square error (RMSE) for comparing the actual yield with the simulated yield for Rio Grande do Sul was of 618.3 and 1,024.8 kg ha−1, i.e., of 8 and 13%, respectively. The forecast of rice yield by applying the SimulArroz model and historic meteorological data for Rio Grande do Sul shows a good predictability, and the recommended scenario is complex 1, using three sowing dates per site and the three most representative rice cultivars per region.

Resumo O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a resposta das cultivares de feijão (Phaseolus vulgaris) Triunfo, Garapiá e BRS-FC104 ao déficit hídrico representado pela fração de água transpirável no solo (FATS). O delineamento experimental foi inteiramente casualizado, em arranjo bifatorial 3×2 (cultivares × irrigação e sem irrigação). Avaliaram-se a transpiração, o crescimento e a produtividade na safra e na safrinha. Na safra, com baixa demanda atmosférica do ar (inferior a 15 hPa em 55% dos dias), 'Garapiá' apresentou fechamento precoce dos estômatos com FATS crítica (FATSc) de 0,36, mas teve a mesma produtividade que 'Triunfo', cujos estômatos fecharam tardiamente (FATSc = 0,23). Na safrinha, com alta demanda atmosférica do ar (superior a 15 hPa em 83,3% dos dias), 'Garapiá' apresentou fechamento estomático precoce (FATSc = 0,17) e maior produtividade (392,2 kg ha−1 a mais que 'Triunfo'). Na safra e na safrinha, 'Garapiá' apresentou tolerância ao déficit hídrico no período reprodutivo. O déficit hídrico resultou em menores valores de estatura, massa seca da parte aérea, massa seca da raiz e área foliar. Tanto 'Garapiá' como 'Triunfo' apresentaram alta produtividade na safra, mas apenas Garapiá na safrinha. 'Garapiá' apresenta tolerância ao déficit hídrico, com controle estomático eficiente e com altos crescimento e produtividade.

Abstract The objective of this work was to evaluate the response of the Garapiá, Triunfo, and BRS-FC104 bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) cultivars to the water deficit represented by the fraction of transpirable soil water (FTSW). The experimental design was completely randomized in a 3×2 bifactorial arrangement (cultivars × irrigation and no irrigation). Transpiration, growth, and yield were evaluated in the crop season and off-season. In the crop season, with a low atmospheric air demand (below 15 hPa in 55% of the days), 'Garapiá' presented early stomatal closure with the critical FTSW (FTSWc) of 0.36, but had the same yield as 'Triunfo', whose stomata closed late (FTSWc = 0.23). In the off-season, with a high atmospheric air demand (greater than 15 hPa in 83.3% of the days), 'Garapiá' presented an early stomatal closure (FTSWc = 0.17) and a higher yield (392.2 kg ha-1 more than 'Triunfo'). In the crop season and off-season, 'Garapiá' showed tolerance to water deficit in the reproductive period. Water deficit resulted in lower values of height, shoot dry mass, root dry mass, and leaf area. Both 'Garapiá' and 'Triunfo' showed a high yield in the crop season, but only 'Garapiá' in the off-season. 'Garapiá' presents tolerance to water deficit, with efficient stomatal control and high growth and yield.

Resumo O objetivo deste trabalho foi obter uma metodologia de cálculo do balanço hídrico sequencial que estime com acurácia a ocorrência de excesso hídrico na soja em terras baixas. Foram testadas quatro estratégias de cálculo do balanço hídrico associadas à simulação do desenvolvimento da soja, as quais se diferenciaram em função da forma de cômputo da chuva e do tempo de drenagem da água dos macroporos do solo. Como referência foram utilizados os dados de umidade volumétrica monitorada em três camadas de solo ao longo do ciclo da soja no ano agrícola 2014/15. A microporosidade foi utilizada como limite inferior da ocorrência de excesso hídrico na área. Assim, o excesso hídrico foi considerado sempre que a umidade volumétrica diária do solo na camada 0-100 mm foi maior que 0,39 mm³ mm-3. Ao longo dos 111 dias de medição, a umidade do solo indicou a presença de excesso hídrico em 38 dias. A estratégia de cálculo tradicional do balanço hídrico subestimou a ocorrência de excesso hídrico, assim como as demais estratégias que consideraram a precipitação efetiva na sua metodologia. A estratégia de cálculo que considera que toda a chuva infiltra no solo e que a água dos macroporos é removida somente pela evapotranspiração da cultura apresentou bom desempenho e indicou 35 dias de excesso hídrico, sendo a mais adequada e recomendada para a determinação do excesso hídrico na soja em terras baixas.

Abstract The aim of this study was to derive a methodology for calculating a sequential water balance that accurately estimates the occurrence of excess water in soybeans cultivated in lowlands. We tested four calculation strategies of water balance associated with the simulation of soybean development, which differed on the calculation of rainfall and time of water drainage from the soil macropores. Data of volumetric moisture monitored in three soil layers throughout the soybean cycle in the 2014/15 agricultural year were used as a reference. Microporosity was used as a lower limit for the occurrence of excess water in the area. Excess water was considered to be whenever the daily volumetric soil moisture in the 0-100 mm layer was greater than 0.39 mm3 mm-3. Over the 111 days of measurement, soil moisture indicated the presence of excess water in 38 days. The traditional calculation strategy of water balance underestimated the occurrence of excess water, as well as the other strategies that considered effective precipitation in their formulas. The calculation strategy that considers that all the rainfall infiltrates in the soil and that the water from macropores is removed only by crop evapotranspiration exhibited good performance and indicated 35 days of excess water, being the most appropriate and recommended for determining excess water in lowland soybeans.

Resumo Estima-se que o número global de pessoas afetadas pela deficiência de micronutrientes, também conhecida mundialmente como fome oculta, seja superior a dois bilhões, sendo assim considerada um problema de saúde pública. O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar cultivares biofortificadas de mandioca quanto a composição físico-química e teor de carotenoides totais, além de verificar sua aceitação sensorial por escolares. O estudo foi realizado em Santa Maria-RS, Brasil, com quatro cultivares de mandioca, sendo duas variedades biofortificadas com polpa amarela (BRS 399 e BRS 396) e duas variedades não biofortificadas: uma com polpa amarela (“Gema de ovo”) e outra com polpa branca (“Vassourinha”). Após o cozimento das raízes, a composição nutricional (umidade, proteína, lipídio, cinzas e amido total), o teor de carotenoides totais e a aceitação sensorial das raízes pelas crianças, nos municípios sul-rio-grandenses de em Júlio de Castilhos e Dilermando de Aguiar, foram determinados. Os teores de umidade, proteína, lipídios, cinzas e amido apresentaram variações significativas entre as cultivares analisadas. Os maiores níveis de carotenoides totais foram encontrados nas cultivares biofortificadas (12,85 µg g-1). Nas cultivares não biofortificadas, “Gema de ovo” e “Vassourinha”, os níveis foram de 12,01 µg g-1 e 3,30 µg g-1, respectivamente. A aceitação sensorial foi de 78,7%, demonstrando potencial para inserção de raízes biofortificadas na alimentação escolar.

Abstract It is estimated that the global number of people affected by micronutrient deficiency, known worldwide as hidden hunger, is over two billion and also considered a public health problem. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate biofortified cassava cultivars in relation to their physical-chemical composition, total carotenoids and to verify their sensory acceptance by schoolchildren. The study was conducted in Santa Maria, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul (RS), Brazil, with four cassava cultivars, two biofortified with yellow pulp (BRS 399 and BRS 396); two non-biofortified varieties: one with yellow pulp (“Gema de ovo”) and another with white pulp (“Vassourinha”). After cooking the roots, the nutritional composition (moisture, protein, lipid, ash, and total starch), the total carotenoid content, and the sensory acceptance of the roots by the children at school, in the countryside of Julio de Castilhos and Dilermando de Aguiar, was determined. The contents of moisture, protein, lipids, ash, and starch showed significant variations between the cultivars analyzed. The highest levels of total carotenoids were found in biofortified cultivars (12.85 µg g-1). In the non-biofortified cultivars, “Gema de ovo” and “Vassourinha”, the levels were 12.01 µg g-1 and 3.30 µg g-1, respectively. Sensory acceptance was 78.7%, demonstrating the potential for the insertion of biofortified roots in school meals.

Resumo: O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a relação entre a produtividade de grãos e os custos de produção de lavouras de arroz (Oryza sativa) irrigado por inundação, no estado do Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil, para determinar a faixa de produtividade que maximiza o lucro do produtor. Existem estimativas de que a faixa de produtividade que maximiza o lucro para os agricultores é de cerca de 75 a 85% do potencial de produtividade; porém, isso ainda precisa ser validado para a cultura do arroz irrigado no Brasil. Para validar esses valores, foi realizado um acompanhamento técnico-econômico para oito produtores de arroz irrigado, cujos custos de produção foram determinados e comparados com a produtividade média e a percentagem da produtividade potencial atingida. Para determinar o potencial produtivo de cada lavoura, utilizou-se o SimulArroz, um modelo, baseado em processos, desenvolvido para a simulação do crescimento e da produtividade de arroz no Sul do Brasil. As produtividades atingidas pelos produtores variaram de 6,3 a 11,0 Mg ha-1 (48 a 83% do potencial de produtividade), os custos variaram de R$ 4.197,00 ha-1 a R$ 6.227,00 ha-1, e o lucro variou de R$ -52,00 ha-1 a R$ 3.599,00 ha-1. Produtores que atingem entre 69 e 83% do potencial produtivo alcançam maior lucratividade. O planejamento de investimento com base no potencial produtivo, calculado pelo modelo SimulArroz, pode ser adotado eficazmente nas lavouras de arroz irrigado.

Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate the relationship between grain yield and production costs of flood-irrigated rice (Oryza sativa) in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, in order to determine the yield range that maximizes the profit of farmers. There are estimations pointing out that the yield range that maximizes the profit for farmers is about 75 and 85% of the yield potential; however, this still needs to be validated for irrigated rice in Brazil. To validate these values, a technical and economic monitoring was carried out for eight farmers of irrigated rice, whose production costs were measured and compared with the mean yield and the percentage of potential yield achieved. To determine the potential yield of each crop, SimulArroz, a process-based model developed for the simulation of rice growth and yield in the South of Brazil, was used. The grain yield achieved by the farmers ranged from 6.3 to 11.0 Mg ha-1 (48 to 83% of the potential yield), costs ranged from R$4,197.00 ha-1 to R$6,227.00 ha-1, and profit ranged from R$-52.00 ha-1 to R$3,599.00 ha-1. Farmers who reach between 69 and 83% of yield potential achieve the highest profitability. The investment planning based on the yield potential calculated by the SimulArroz model can be efficiently adopted for irrigated rice crops.

Resumo: O objetivo deste trabalho foi modelar, no modelo SimulArroz, as três cultivares de arroz (Oryza sativa) irrigado atualmente mais cultivadas no Estado do Rio Grande do Sul. Os experimentos para calibrar e validar o modelo foram conduzidos nos municípios de Cachoeirinha, Santa Maria, Uruguaiana, Santa Vitória do Palmar e Cachoeira do Sul, durante quatro safras. Foram avaliados o número de folhas, a fenologia, a biomassa da matéria seca da parte aérea e a produtividade de cada cultivar. Os resultados mostraram uma leve superestimativa dos estádios R1, R4 e R9; no entanto, no geral, o modelo SimulArroz apresentou bom desempenho na simulação da fenologia do arroz para os três genótipos estudados. Além disso, o modelo teve uma precisão razoável em simular matéria seca da parte aérea e produtividade. A raiz quadrada do erro quadrático médio (RMSE) para matéria seca da parte aérea (folhas, caules, panículas e grãos) variou de 0,5 a 3,0 Mg ha-1. Para produtividade, a RMSE variou de 0,8 a 1,3 Mg ha-1. A calibração do modelo SimulArroz é eficiente em simular o crescimento, o desenvolvimento e a produtividade de grãos das cultivares de arroz irrigado mais importantes no Sul do Brasil e pode ser utilizada para estimar a previsão de safra e o potencial de produtividade, bem como para estudos de lacunas de produtividade.

Abstract: The objective of this work was to model, in the SimulArroz model, the three flood-irrigated rice (Oryza sativa) cultivars currently most grown in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. The experiments to calibrate and validate the model were conducted in the municipalities of Cachoeirinha, Santa Maria, Uruguaiana, Santa Vitória do Palmar, and Cachoeira do Sul during four crop seasons. The number of leaves, phenology, aboveground dry matter biomass, and yield of each cultivar were evaluated. The results showed a slight overestimate of the R1, R4, and R9 stages; however, overall, the SimulArroz model had a good performance in simulating rice phenology for the three studied genotypes. Furthermore, the model had a reasonable accuracy in simulating aboveground dry matter and yield. The root-mean-square error (RMSE) for aboveground dry matter (leaves, stems, panicles, and grains) ranged from 0.5 to 3.0 Mg ha-1. For yield, the RMSE ranged from 0.8 to 1.3 Mg ha-1. The calibration of the SimulArroz model is efficient in simulating the growth, development, and grain yield of the most important flood-irrigated rice cultivars in Southern Brazil and can be used to estimate harvest forecast and yield potential, as well for yield gap studies.
