Abstract Light wells in residential buildings represent a context that has received relatively little attention in daylighting analyses. This study aims to analyze the daylighting performance of a residential space with a window facing a light well, in order to contribute to the revision of NBR 15575:2013. The study conducted 1,152 daylighting analyses considering windows facing a light well, located on the first and fourth floors of a 4-story building. Clear and intermediate skies were considered in four Brazilian cities with different latitudes. Both the prescriptive method and point-in-time simulations were applied. The effectiveness of achieving daylit interior spaces through light wells strongly depends on the geometry of the light well and the external illuminance conditions of the city. Narrow light wells were found to be unsuitable for adequately daylighting the lower floor spaces. Furthermore, the prescriptive method was insufficient in representing daylighting originating solely from external wall interreflections. The study found that intermediate and superior performance levels, when achieved through point-in-time or spatial daylighting availability simulations, were never attained for the first-floor space. Resumo Poços de luz em edifícios residenciais representam um contexto com pouca atenção nas análises de iluminação natural. Esse estudo propõe analisar o desempenho de iluminação natural de um espaço residencial com janela voltada para poço de luz visando objetivo de contribuir com a revisão da NBR 15575:2013. O estudo realizou 1.152 análises de desempenho considerando a janela voltada para o poço de luz localizada no 1º e 4º pavimentos de uma edificação de quatro pavimentos. Foram considerados céu claros e intermediários em quatro cidades brasileiras com diferentes latitudes. O método prescritivo e simulação ponto-no-tempo foram aplicados. A solução de iluminação de espaços internos por meio de poços de luz depende fortemente de sua geometria e das condições de iluminância externa da cidade. Poços estreitos mostraram-se inaptos para levar luz suficiente para os ambientes inferiores. Abstract Framework: The Covid-19 pandemic has brought several challenges at an economic, labor, social, and organizational level, and organizations had to adopt strategies to ensure their functioning, as well as to ensure and promote the health and well-being of workers. Research Question/Goals: This study aimed to identify and describe (1) the impact of Covid-19 on the world of work and (2) the strategies that organizations have adopted to minimize this impact. Method: A descriptive qualitative cross-sectional study was carried out, where data were collected from 18 participants (10 Human Resources Managers, five specialists from relevant fields regarding professional experiences with Covid-19, and three representatives of public entities and Portuguese civil society from the fields of work and gender) through semi-structured interviews. The data were analyzed using thematic categorical content analysis with the support of NVivo®. Results: The pandemic impacted (RQ1) on work, economic and labor, work-life balance, and health and well-being. The measures (RQ2) most frequently implemented by the organizations were in terms of health and safety at work, adaptation to teleworking, work-life balance, and communication. Final considerations: The data points to increasingly remote and flexible work transformed by new technologies. In the (re)design of the work, it is essential to consider the characteristics and needs of each worker.

Resumo Introdução/Enquadramento: A pandemia Covid-19 trouxe diversos desafios a nível económico e laboral, social e organizacional, tendo as organizações que adotar estratégias para garantir o seu funcionamento, mas também garantir e promover a saúde e bem-estar dos trabalhadores. Questão de Investigação/Objetivos: Este estudo teve como objetivo identificar e descrever: (1) o impacto da Covid-19 no mundo do trabalho, e (2) as estratégias que as organizações adotaram para minimizar esse impacto. Método: Foi realizado um estudo transversal qualitativo descritivo, onde foram recolhidos dados de 18 participantes (10 Gestores de Recursos Humanos, cinco especialistas de áreas relevantes sobre as vivências profissionais com a Covid-19 e três representantes de entidades públicas e da sociedade civil portuguesa nas áreas do trabalho e do género) através de entrevistas semiestruturadas. Os dados foram analisados à luz da análise de conteúdo categorial temática, com o apoio do NVivo®. Resultados: A pandemia teve impacto (QI1) a nível do trabalho, económico e laboral, da conciliação, e da saúde e bem-estar. As medidas (QI2) mais frequentemente implementadas pelas organizações foram ao nível da higiene e segurança no trabalho, adaptação ao teletrabalho, conciliação e comunicação. Considerações finais: Os dados apontam para um mundo do trabalho cada vez mais remoto e flexível, transformado pelo uso das novas tecnologias. Abstract Roadkill is one of the most direct impacts on fauna, leading to numerous direct and indirect impacts. Road-killed animals could serve as a resource for research and teaching purposes, but first, they need to have their tissues preserved by some technique. Plastination is one of the most modern techniques for the conservation of biological tissues, its principle is the replacement of body fluids by a curable polymer, resulting in a non-toxic, odorless, and manipulable material. So the main aim of this work was to compose a collection of plastinated roadkill victims from the Biological Reserve Sooretama region, adapting the standard protocol to the different taxa worked here (Avialae, Reptilia, Amphibia, and Mammalia). For this, 42 animals were used, previously frozen and stored in the Sooretama Biological Reserve and Vale Natural Reserve until they were sent for processing. Upon arriving at the Plastination laboratory at the Federal University of Espírito Santo, the animals underwent the 4 stages of plastination: fixation, dehydration, forced impregnation, and chemical cure; some adaptations were made to improve the final specimens. The results proved that the plastination of these animals is extremely viable in generating satisfactory results. Given the results obtained, it becomes clear how plastination can become an alternative to implement in the composition of biological collections using roadkill animals. Abstract There are some instruments in the literature to measure job insecurity, including the Job Insecurity Scale (JIS). The article's objective is to present the JIS psychometric properties and the validation of the scale for the Brazilian and Portuguese populations in higher education. 335 workers from public universities participated, 171 of which were technicians and 164 were professors. Confirmatory analysis, group comparisons, and reliability estimates were used. The results indicate an acceptable fit for the JIS and prove that Portuguese and Brazilian workers have statistically significant differences in the quantitative dimension of the JIS. O objetivo do artigo foi apresentar as propriedades psicométricas da JIS e a validação da escala para a população brasileira e portuguesa no ensino superior. Purpose Considering the significant increase in researchers’ interest in human resource management (HRM) in the public sector domain, this study aims to focus on producing a scale of HRM practices customized for the context of public organizations. Design/methodology/approach Experts and semantic analysis were performed for the scale development (qualitative stage), and exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis through structural equation modeling was conducted for the scale validation (quantitative stage). Findings The public HRM practices scale (public HRMPS) is composed of 19 items, distributed along four factors/dimensions, named training, development and education; relationship; work conditions; and competency and performance appraisal. The scale showed evidence of internal and construct validity (convergent, divergent, criterion-related and discriminant), as well as reliability and content validity. Research limitations/implications The public HRMPS can be applied in relational studies to test structural models of prediction, mediation and moderation to evaluate relationships with organizational behavior variables, such as leader-members exchange, engagement at work, life quality at work and well-being at work, among others. Practical implications The public HRMPS may also serve as a useful diagnostic tool for the decision-making process made by public managers so they can promote a strategic, evidence-based HRM. Furthermore, the transforming role of strategic HRM can be operationalized by adopting practices gathered in the public HRMPS, advancing toward new HRM strategies to promote healthier and more productive work environments. Social implications Healthier and more productive environments translate into real impacts for society, the first beneficiary of public services with more quality, efficiency and accountability. Abstract Introduction Facial nerve stimulation (FNS) is a complication in cochlear implant (CI) when the electrical current escapes from the cochlea to the nearby facial nerve. Different management to reduce its effects are available, although changes might result in a less-than-ideal fitting for the CI user, eventually reducing speech perception. Objective To verify the etiologies that cause FNS, to identify strategies in managing FNS, and to evaluate speech recognition in patients who present FNS. Methods Retrospective study approved by the Ethical Board of the Institution. From the files of a CI group, patients who were identified with FNS either during surgery or at any time postoperatively were selected. Data collection included: CI manufacturer, electrode array type, age at implantation, etiology of hearing loss, FNS identification date, number of electrodes that generated FNS, FNS management actions, and speech recognition in quiet and in noise. Results Data were collected from 7 children and 25 adults. Etiologies that cause FNS were cochlear malformation, head trauma, meningitis, and otosclerosis; the main actions included decrease in the stimulation levels followed by the deactivation of electrodes. Average speech recognition in quiet before FNS was 86% and 80% after in patients who were able to accomplish the test. However, there was great variability, ranging from 0% in quiet to 90% of speech recognition in noise. Conclusion Etiologies that cause FNS are related to cochlear morphology alterations. Abstract In this paper, we construct the Human Capital Index (ICH) for Brazil, covering the period from 1995 to 2022. We used microdata from National Household Sample Survey (PNAD) and PNAD Contínua, both made available by Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). We adapted the methodology used by several international organizations, such as the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). The ICH captures structural movements in the quality of the Brazilian workforce, given the wide temporal range of the data, and its derivation is compatible with the usual methodology for decomposing economic growth. We thus used the ICH to adjust the labor factor in the total factor productivity (TFP) calculation. The results show that ICH presented an average annual growth of 2.2% between 1995 and 2022. Resumo Neste estudo construímos o Índice de Capital Humano (ICH) para o Brasil, cobrindo o período de 1995 a 2022. Utilizamos os microdados da Pesquisa Nacional por Amostra de Domicílios (PNAD) e da PNAD Contínua, ambas disponibilizadas pelo Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística (IBGE), e adaptamos para o caso brasileiro a metodologia empregada por diversas organizações internacionais, como o Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). O ICH captura os movimentos estruturais da qualidade da mão de obra brasileira, dada a ampla abrangência temporal dos dados, e sua derivação é compatível com a metodologia usual de decomposição do crescimento econômico. ABSTRACT Objective: To capacitate pregnant women to comply with measures designed to prevent sudden infant death syndrome. Methods: A quasi-experimental study was conducted before and after the intervention that included pregnant women attending the Course of Preparation for Childbirth and Parenthood of Health Centers Cluster. Six training sessions were given in the context of preventing this syndrome. Three questionnaires were applied, one to evaluate the knowledge of pregnant women before classes, other was submitted after the sessions, and another, one month after the birth of the babies, to identify what skills were acquired and which were practiced. Results: Among 77 studied pregnant women, 70 answered pre-session questionnaire and the proportion of correct answers varied from from 60.0% to 84.3%. After the intervention, 64 women answered the questionnaire and the proportion of correct answers varied between 79.7% and 100% . Prior to the intervention, the most wrong answers were related to the role of smoking as a risk factor for sudden infant death syndrome and to the use of pacifiers as a protective measure. After the sessions, all women answered correctly to the questions concerning where the baby should sleep and the safest way to lay the baby in the cradle. Conclusions: Health education with the aim of establishing measures may have a significant impact in terms of care delivery and mortality rate caused by sudden infant death syndrome. RESUMO Objetivo: Capacitar as grávidas para o cumprimento de medidas de prevenção da síndrome de morte súbita do lactente. Métodos: Realizou-se um estudo quase-experimental pré- e pós-intervenção que integrou as grávidas que frequentavam o Curso de Preparação para o Parto e Parentalidade do Agrupamento de Centros de Saúde. Foram ministradas seis sessões formativas no âmbito da prevenção desta síndrome. Três questionários foram aplicados, um para avaliar os conhecimentos das gestantes antes das aulas, outro foi submetido após as sessões, e outro, um mês após o nascimento dos bebês para identificar que conhecimentos foram adquiridos e quais foram praticados. Resultados: Da amostra de 77 grávidas, relativamente ao questionário pré-sessão (n=70), obteve-se uma proporção de respostas corretas entre 60,0–84,3%. Posteriormente à intervenção (n=64), verificou-se um incremento dos conhecimentos com 79,7–100% de acertos. Previamente à intervenção, as respostas mais erradas às questões eram inerentes ao papel do tabagismo como fator de risco para síndrome de morte súbita do lactente e ao uso da chupeta como medida protetora. Após as sessões, todas as mulheres responderam corretamente às questões relativas ao local onde o bebê deve dormir e à forma mais segura de colocar o bebê no berço. ABSTRACT Introduction: Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) of the vulva is a rare condition that accounts for less than 0.4% of BCC cases and 2% to 4% of vulvar neoplasms. BCC of the vulva is more common among white, multiparous, and postmenopausal women, especially in the seventh decade of life. The objective is to report a case of BCC of the vulva in which aspects of diagnosis and treatment were discussed. Case Report: A 63-year-old woman, G1P1A0, arrives at the office in January 2022 for treatment of a persistent lesion on her vulva. An incisional biopsy was performed which showed that it was likely nodular basal cell carcinoma with invasion of the dermis. The patient underwent tumor resection with free macroscopic margins and primary suture. The surgery had no complications preoperatively or postoperatively. The histopathology of the surgical specimen showed that it was a nodular basal cell carcinoma with an irregular, flat, white area, measuring 0.7x0.4cm, with the lateral margins 7.0 and 5.0mm apart and deep, 5.9mm; all free. Conclusion: The reported case is rare, with surgical resection of BCC of the vulva with margins being successful. Fourteen months after surgery, the patient has no evidence of local or regional recurrence. RESUMO Introdução: O carcinoma basocelular (CBC) de vulva é uma condição rara que corresponde a menos de 0,4% dos casos de CBC e de 2% a 4% das neoplasias de vulva. O CBC de vulva é mais comum entre mulheres brancas, multíparas e na pósmenopausa, especialmente na sétima década de vida. O objetivo é relatar um caso de CBC de vulva no qual discutiram-se os aspectos do diagnóstico e tratamento. Relato de Caso: Mulher de 63 anos de idade, G1P1A0, chega ao consultório em janeiro de 2022 para tratamento de lesão persistente em vulva. Realizou-se biópsia incisional que mostrou tratar-se de provável carcinoma basocelular nodular com invasão da derme. A paciente submeteu-se a uma ressecção do tumor com margens macroscópicas livres e sutura primária. A cirurgia não teve complicações no pré-operatório e no pós-operatório. O histopatológico da peça cirúrgica mostrou tratar-se de carcinoma basocelular nodular com área irregular, plana, branco, medindo 0,7x0,4cm, com as margens laterais distando 7,0 e 5,0mm e profundas, 5,9mm; todas livres. Conclusão: O caso relatado é raro, tendo sido o tratamento de ressecção cirúrgica do CBC de vulva com margens bem-sucedido. There is evidence of an association between maternal hyperglycemia and the risk of obstetric and neonatal complications. The concern with early diagnosis has allowed, among others, to reduce these complications. Horta Hospital has perceived with concern, a persistent higher disease prevalence comparing to national data. The goal of this study was to characterize the population with GD followed and with delivery in the hospital in 2021. Methods: Retrospective study of pregnant women with GD followed in medical appointment and pregnant women with GD that delivered in this hospital. Data were collected from the hos-pital computer register and recorded in a database. Demogra-phic and clinical characteristics of the pregnant women were analyzed, as well as the characteristics of the babies born from these pregnancies. Results: Of all women who gave birth at hospital, 35% had a diagnosis of GD. In this group, 58% were from 30 to 39 years old. Pregnant women with GD that were followed in medical appointment, had 35% BMI of obesity, 35% overweight, and the remaining 30% had normal weight. Family history of diabetes mellitus (DM) was present in 36% of pregnant women, and 35% had GD in a previous pregnancy. Conclusion: The prevalence of GD in this institution remains higher than data from mainland Portugal, showing the importance of increased attention to these pregnant women, in order to reduce the risk of complications. Although not enough data were collected to draw conclusions about possible causes for these results disparity, it is essential to do further investigation.

Resumo Introdução: A diabetes gestacional (DG) é uma complicação frequente na gravidez. Existem evidências da associação entre a hiperglicemia materna e o risco de complicações obstétricas e neonatais. A preocupação no diagnóstico precoce, tem vindo a permitir, entre outros, diminuir essas complicações. O Hospital da Horta tem verificado, com alguma preocupação, uma prevalência desta patologia persistentemente maior do que a dos dados nacionais. O objetivo deste trabalho foi caracterizar a população com DG acompanhada e com parto no hospital em 2021. Métodos: Estudo retrospetivo das grávidas com DG seguidas em consulta e das grávidas com DG com parto neste hospital. Os dados foram recolhidos do sistema informático hospitalar, registados e gravados numa base de dados. As características demográficas e clínicas das grávidas foram analisadas, assim como as características dos bebés nascidos destas gravidezes. Resultados: Das grávidas com parto no hospital, 35% tiveram o diagnóstico de DG. Destas 58% tinham entre 30 e 39 anos. Das grávidas com DG seguidas em consulta, 35% tinham IMC de obesidade, e 35% de excesso de peso, sendo os restantes 30% normoponderais. Antecedentes familiares de diabetes mellitus (DM) estavam presentes em 36% das grávidas com DG e 35% tinham apresentado DG em gravidez anterior. Conclusão: Mantém-se a prevalência elevada de DG nesta instituição, com valores superiores aos dados de Portugal Continental, mostrando-se a importância de uma atenção redobrada para estas grávidas de modo a reduzir o risco de complicações. Embora não tenham sido recolhidos dados suficientes que permitam tirar conclusões quanto a eventuais causas para esta disparidade de resultados, é essencial investigar as mesmas.

RESUMO O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o efeito do biochar de torta de filtro como condicionador de solo e sua influência no crescimento e na fisiologia de macaúba, araçá e cajuzinho do cerrado. Os experimentos foram montados na Fazenda Hamilton de Abreu Navarro da UFMG, onde foram avaliados o efeito de quatro doses de biochar de torta de filtro (1%, 2%, 4% e 8% v/v) e dois tratamentos controle: um com correção do solo e adubação mineral, e o outro sem adubação. Para acompanhar o desempenho das mudas, foram realizadas avaliações aos 30, 60 e 120 dias após o transplantio, dos parâmetros fisiológicos (fotossíntese, transpiração, condutância estomática, CO2 consumido, carbono interno e taxa de transporte de elétrons), e morfológicos (altura e diâmetro), aos 30, 60, 90 e 120 dias após o transplantio. Aos 120 dias, avaliou-se a produção de biomassa seca da parte aérea, de raízes e total. Para a macaúba, a aplicação de biochar, na dose de 2%, favoreceu a sua fotossíntese. Já para o araçá, aos 30 dias após o transplantio, o tratamento sem adubação foi melhor para a maioria das variáveis, entretanto os tratamentos com biochar também tiveram resultados satisfatórios. O cajuzinho do cerrado também respondeu positivamente à aplicação de biochar em todas as doses. As variáveis fisiológicas e morfológicas responderam bem aos tratamentos sem adubação e com aplicação de biochar ao solo. ABSTRACT Some native species of the Cerrado have great ecological and economic potential. An alternative that aims to contribute to the good performance of post-planting plants is the incorporation of biochar into the soil. The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of filter cake biochar as a soil conditioner and its influence on the growth and physiology of macaúba, araçá and cajuzinho do cerrado. RESUMO Objetivo: Analisar os fatores associados ao aumento da violência doméstica entre professores no período inicial na pandemia. Métodos: Estudo transversal e analítico, do tipo websurvey , realizado com professores da educação básica pública de Minas Gerais, Brasil. A coleta de dados ocorreu de agosto a setembro de 2020, via formulário digital. A variável dependente foi o autorrelato da violência doméstica. Utilizou-se a Regressão de Poisson. Resultados: Participaram do estudo 539 professores em situação de violência doméstica na pandemia, dos quais 6,3% (n = 34) diminuíram um pouco e muito, 58,3% (n = 314) permaneceram o mesmo e 35,4% (n = 191) aumentaram um pouco e muito. Na análise ajustada, observou-se maior prevalência do aumento da violência doméstica entre os professores que referiram dificuldade com o trabalho docente (RP = 1,38; IC95% 1,01;1,89); com adesão total ao distanciamento social (RP = 1,33; IC95% 1,01;1,76); piora no estado de saúde (RP = 1,70; IC95% 1,23;2,36) e que se sentiram tristes ou deprimidos muitas vezes ou sempre (RP = 1,57; IC95% 1,15;2,16). ABSTRACT Objective: To analyze the factors associated with the increase in domestic violence among teachers in the initial period of the pandemic. Methods: Cross-sectional and analytical study, of the websurvey type, carried out with teachers of public basic education in Minas Gerais, Brazil. Data collection took place from August to September 2020, via a digital form. The dependent variable was self-reported domestic violence. Poisson regression was used. Results: 539 teachers participated in the study in situations of domestic violence in the pandemic, of which 6.3% (n = 34) decreased a little and a lot, 58.3% (n = 314) remained the same and 35.4% (n = 191) increased a little and a lot. In the adjusted analysis, a higher prevalence of increased domestic violence was observed among teachers who reported difficulty with teaching work (PR = 1.38; 95%CI 1.01;1.89); with full adherence to social distancing (PR = 1.33; 95%CI 1.01;1.76); worsening of health status (PR = 1.70; 95%CI 1.23;2.36) and in teachers who felt sad or depressed many times or always (PR = 1.57; 95%CI 1.15;2.16). Conclusion: The increase in domestic violence of the pandemic in teachers was associated with work characteristics and mental health conditions. Resumo Nas últimas décadas, houve progressos significativos no diagnóstico e no tratamento da distrofia muscular de Duchenne (DMD), considerada a distrofia muscular mais comum na infância. Diretrizes internacionais foram publicadas e revisadas recentemente. Um grupo de especialistas brasileiros desenvolveu um padrão de atendimento baseado em revisão de literatura, com recomendações graduadas pautadas em evidências compiladas em uma publicação dividida em duas partes. A implementação de melhores práticas de manejo ajudou a modificar a história natural desta doença crônica, progressiva, que, no passado, oferecia uma expectativa de vida muito limitada para crianças do sexo masculino. Desde a publicação desse consenso anterior, o diagnóstico, o tratamento com esteroides, a reabilitação e os cuidados sistêmicos ganharam novas possibilidades a partir da divulgação dos resultados de trabalhos originais em algumas dessas áreas. Além disso, as pesquisas e o desenvolvimento de novos fármacos estão em andamento, e algumas intervenções já foram aprovadas para uso em determinados países. Abstract In the last few decades, there have been considerable improvements in the diagnosis and care of Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), the most common childhood muscular dystrophy. International guidelines have been published and recently reviewed. A group of Brazilian experts has developed a standard of care based on a literature review with evidence-based graded recommendations in a two-part publication. Implementing best practice management has helped change the natural history of this chronic progressive disorder, in which the life expectancy for children of the male sex in the past used to be very limited. Since the previous publication, diagnosis, steroid treatment, rehabilitation, and systemic care have gained more significant insights with new original work in certain fields. Furthermore, the development of new drugs is ongoing, and some interventions have been approved for use in certain countries.
