Resumo Diversas características influenciam a resistência ao fogo de sistema de parede em alvenaria estrutural, dentre as quais pode se incluir sua resistência à compressão. O comportamento desse sistema é validado experimentalmente conforme a norma NBR 5628. Esse estudo tem como objetivo analisar comparativamente a resistência ao fogo obtida através de ensaios em escala real em alvenaria estrutural, envolvendo as características de isolamento térmico, estanqueidade a passagem de gases e fumaça e estabilidade estrutural. Foram avaliados componentes com a mesma configuração em termos de revestimento e assentamento, assumindo como variável a resistência a compressão dos blocos, tendo sido considerados neste estudo blocos de classe EST 60, 100 e 140. Os resultados obtidos apontam que a resistência à compressão da alvenaria pode influenciar, além da estabilidade estrutural do sistema, também seu isolamento térmico, critério tipicamente crítico para alvenarias de blocos cerâmicos em situação de incêndio. Abstract There are several characteristics that influence fire resistance of load-bearing masonries, wherein stand out the bricks compressive strength. Verification of wall systems fire behavior was conducted as prescribed by NBR 5628. This research aims to comparatively analyze fire resistance in real scale load-bearing walls, considering thermal insulation, structural stability, and airtightness. The thickness of the coating and laying mortar were standardized for all specimens just varying brick geometry and septs design in blocks of EST 60, 100, and 140 class. The obtained results show that the compressive strength of the bricks can induce both the structural stability of the constructive systems and its thermal insulation, being a typically critical characteristic for clay brick walls in a building fire. ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to assess the efficacy and safety of hybrid closed-loop (HCL) systems for insulin delivery in children and adolescents with type 1 diabetes (T1D). We searched Embase, PubMed, and Cochrane Library for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) published until March 2023 comparing the HCL therapy with control therapies for children and adolescents with T1D. We computed weighted mean differences (WMDs) for continuous outcomes and risk ratios (RRs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for binary endpoints. Four RCTs and 501 patients were included, of whom 323 were randomized to HCL therapy. Compared with control therapies, HCL significantly improved the period during which glucose level was 70-180 mg/dL (WMD 10.89%, 95% CI 8.22-13.56%) and the number of participants with glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) level < 7% (RR 2.61, 95% CI 1.29-5.28). Also, HCL significantly reduced the time during which glucose level was > 180 mg/dL (WMD -10.46%, 95% CI -13.99 to -6.93%) and the mean levels of glucose (WMD -16.67 mg/dL, 95% CI -22.25 to -11.09 mg/dL) and HbA1c (WMD -0.50%, 95% CI -0.68 to -0.31). There were no significant differences between therapies regarding time during which glucose level was < 70 mg/dL or <54 mg/dL or number of episodes of ketoacidosis, hyperglycemia, and hypoglycemia. In this meta-analysis, HCL compared with control therapies was associated with improved time in range and HbA1c control in children and adolescents with T1D and a similar profile of side effects. ABSTRACT BACKGROUND: Some maternal characteristics are related to alcohol intake during pregnancy, which irreversibly compromises the maternal-fetal binomial integrity. OBJECTIVES: To identify the frequency, impact, and factors associated with alcohol consumption during pregnancy. DESIGN AND SETTING: A cross-sectional study was performed at the Hospital Materno Infantil Presidente Vargas (HMIPV) in Porto Alegre/RS between March and December 2016. METHODS: A structured questionnaire was administered along with a medical records review. They refer to the maternal sociodemographic and gestational status, alcohol consumption patterns, and characteristics of the fetus/newborn. In the statistical analysis, P values < 0.05 were considered significant. RESULTS: The frequency of alcohol intake was 37.3%; this was characterized by the consumption of fermented beverages (89.3%), especially during the first trimester (79.6%). Risky consumption (high and/or early) occurred for 30.2% of participants. Risk factors associated with maternal alcohol consumption during pregnancy were tobacco use (P < 0.001) and abortion attempt (P = 0.023). Living with a partner (P = 0.002) and planning pregnancy (P = 0.009) were protective factors. Risky consumption was related to all of the aforementioned variables as well as threatened abortion (P = 0.023). CONCLUSIONS: Alcohol intake during pregnancy is common and affects nearly one-third of pregnant women. Knowledge of the population at risk and protective factors is essential for the development of campaigns that seek to reduce consumption and, therefore, its consequences for the mother and fetus. Resumo Aerênquima é um tecido comum nas plantas aquáticas, caracterizado pela presença de lacunas de ar comumente septadas por diafragmas. Esses, são formados por uma ou mais camadas de células, geralmente braciformes, que permitem a passagem de gases. A maioria das espécies de Eleocharis cresce em solos úmidos ou inundados e apresenta aerênquima no caule. No entanto, essa estrutura carece de estudos amplos que poderiam contribuir aos estudos ecológicos e filogenéticos do grupo. Abstract Aerenchyma is a characteristic tissue of aquatic plants, characterized by the presence of air lacunae commonly septated by diaphragms. These are formed by one or more layers of stellate cells, which allow for the passage of gases. Most species of Eleocharis grow in wet or flooded soils and have aerenchyma in their aerial stems. However, extensive studies on this structure, which could contribute to ecological and phylogenetic studies of the group, are lacking. This work describes the structure of the diaphragm in the stem of Eleocharis species and investigates the evolution of this characteristic in the genus. Fifty-three species were analyzed under light and scanning electron microscopy. We analyzed the evolution of the characteristics by reconstructing their ancestral states based on the previously published original phylogeny. The diaphragms in Eleocharis vary mainly in the number of layers, cell shape, and cell wall thickness. The typical diaphragm of the genus is composed of three to four layers of stellate cells, with microprojections and secretory cells. Abstract Between 2017 and 2021, the Brazilian Unified Health System (BUHS) administered a total of 527,903,302 doses of immunizations. Each immunization results in the presence of a residual volume (RV) due to syringe dead space (DS). The International Organization for Standardization 7886-1 allows a DS of up to 0.07mL in sterile single-use hypodermic syringes with volumes less than 5mL. This study aims to quantify the DS of immunization devices used in Brazil, study the best combinations of needles and syringes to minimize RV, estimate the number of wasted doses from 2017 to 2021, and evaluate the impact on the BUHS. Pneumococcal 10 vaccine with a 25x6mm needle and a regular 1mL syringe exhibited a significantly higher average RV (0.0826mL) and waste rate (14.42%). It was observed that for some intramuscular vaccines, there is less waste when using a 20x5.5mm needle compared to a 25x6mm needle. The use of syringes with plunger stoppers that penetrate the syringe barrel, denoted as low dead space syringes, results in less RV and an estimated difference in the waste rate of approximately 10% compared to the regular syringe. Resumo Objetivo Demonstrar o grau de recomendação de mentores e mentorados quanto à participação em um programa de mentoria, avaliar o grau de satisfação dos participantes, e descrever as principais características das reuniões em dupla. Materiais e Métodos Estudo primário, retrospectivo, analítico, com análise das respostas dos questionários de avaliação anual do programa de mentoria em dupla da residência de Ortopedia e Traumatologia da instituição de dezembro de 2017 a fevereiro de 2021. Resultados Foram obtidas 52 respostas de 26 preceptores mentores e 26 residentes mentorados. A média de idade dos mentorados foi de 27 anos (±1,5 ano), ao passo que a média de idade dos mentores foi de 45 anos (±8,2 anos). O grau de recomendação do programa pelos participantes foi de 96%, e 89% dos mentorados consideraram que os mentores contribuíram para a tomada de decisões pessoais e profissionais. Conclusão O programa de mentoria se mostrou uma estratégia com alto grau de recomendação na residência médica em Ortopedia. Abstract Objective To demonstrate the degree of recommendation of mentors and mentees regarding a mentorship program, to assess the degree of satisfaction of the participants, and to describes the main characteristics of the meetings in pairs. Materials and Methods A primary, retrospective, analytical study based on answers to the annual evaluation questionnaires of the institutional mentorship program in pairs of the Orthopedics and Traumatology residency from December 2017 to February 2021. Results We compiled 52 responses from 26 mentorship preceptors and 26 mentored residents. The mentees and mentors had average ages of 27 (±1.5) years and 45 (±8.2) years respectively. A total of 96% of the participants recommend the program, and 89% of the mentees reported that the mentors contributed to their personal and professional decision-making process. Conclusion The mentorship program proved to be a highly recommended strategy in medical residency in Orthopedics. RESUMEN Este estudio analizó el perfil de actuación de los fisioterapeutas de Rio de Janeiro (RJ) y de Rio Grande do Sul (RS) en el manejo de personas con enfermedad de Alzheimer (EA). Un total de 256 respuestas se obtuvo de un cuestionario enviado electrónicamente a los Consejos Regionales de Fisioterapia y Terapia Ocupacional de las regiones 2 (RJ) y 5 (RS) -CREFITOS 2 y 5-, en el período de marzo a diciembre de 2020. El cuestionario constaba de 36 preguntas cerradas, con variables que se agruparon en: (1) caracterización de la muestra; (2) datos específicos sobre la profesión de fisioterapeuta; y (3) preguntas relacionadas con EA. Este artículo solo analizó los problemas relacionados con la EA. Todas las preguntas eran de opción múltiple, con 2 a 15 opciones de respuesta. La mayoría de los encuestados (88,3%) ya había asistido a pacientes con EA, pero el 50,8% haría una revisión de la literatura para asistir nuevamente a estos pacientes. El principal objetivo informado en el manejo del individuo con EA fue “retrasar la progresión de las pérdidas motoras”. RESUMO O estudo analisou o perfil de atuação dos fisioterapeutas do Rio de Janeiro (RJ) e do Rio Grande do Sul (RS) no manejo da pessoa com doença de Alzheimer (DA). Foram obtidas 256 respostas a um questionário enviado via endereço eletrônico dos Conselhos Regionais de Fisioterapia e Terapia Ocupacional das regiões 2 (RJ) e 5 (RS) - CREFITOS 2 e 5 -, entre março e dezembro de 2020. O questionário tinha 36 perguntas fechadas, cujas variáveis foram agrupadas em: (1) caracterização da amostra; (2) dados específicos sobre a profissão de fisioterapeuta; e (3) questões relacionadas à DA. Neste artigo serão analisadas apenas as questões relacionadas à DA. Todas as questões eram de múltipla escolha, com 2 até 15 opções de resposta. A maioria dos respondentes (88,3%) já atendeu paciente com DA, mas 50,8% fariam uma revisão de literatura para atender novamente esses pacientes. ABSTRACT This study analyzes the working profile of physical therapists from the states of Rio de Janeiro (RJ) and Rio Grande do Sul (RS) in the management of people with Alzheimer’s disease (AD). A total of 256 responses were obtained to a questionnaire sent via the electronic address of the Regional Councils of Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy (CREFITOS) 2 (RJ) and 5 (RS), from March to December 2020. The questionnaire comprises 36 closed questions, the variables of which were grouped into: (1) sample characterization; (2) specific data on the profession of physical therapist; and (3) issues related to AD. In this article, only issues related to AD will be analyzed. All questions were multiple choice with 2 to 15 options of answer. Most respondents (88.3%) had already treated patients with AD, but 50.8% needed to review the literature to assist these patients. Abstract The South Brazilian grasslands (Campos Sulinos) form the dominant vegetation in southern Brazil. They are species-rich ecosystems that occur under distinct geomorphological and climatic conditions but spatial variation of plant species diversity remains understudied. Here, we present a detailed description of plant communities across the region. Our data were obtained in 1080 plots, representing well-preserved grasslands in different ecological systems. Apart from describing alpha and beta diversity, we investigated the relations of plant communities with environmental features. We identified 759 plant species and found clear differences in community composition across the region. Northern and Southern highland grasslands, humid and dry coastal grasslands and the mesic Pampa grassland were clearly distinct, related to climatic and edaphic features. While species abundance distribution was markedly uneven, local species richness was high, above 20 species/m2, especially in the highlands and in mesic Pampa sites, on shallow soils. The predominant component of beta diversity was species turnover, which suggests that a network of well-conserved grasslands distributed across the region would be the best strategy to protect plant diversity. Our results establish regionalized reference values for richness and diversity that can be useful for initiatives of restoration and conservation of these grasslands.

RESUMO O método da maturidade é um procedimento que associa a evolução da temperatura do concreto e o avanço de suas propriedades no estado endurecido, como a resistência à compressão, geralmente em idades iniciais. Sua aplicação é justificada quando se requer segurança e agilidade para tarefas de construção, como a protensão, a remoção do escoramento, o desmolde e a cura de concreto em baixas temperaturas. As regiões de clima temperado são conhecidas por apresentar temperaturas mais baixas durante o inverno, o que pode retardar o ganho de resistência do concreto. Este estudo aplicou o método de maturidade em uma estrutura de concreto armado localizada no Sul do Brasil, em uma construção industrial. Se observou que o concreto, do qual se esperava o alcance de 30 MPa aos 28 dias, chegou a alcançar 70% da resistência com 8,5 dias para a laje 1 e em 4,4 dias para a laje 2, sendo possível mensurar tal propriedade utilizando o método da maturidade.

ABSTRACT The maturity method is a procedure that associates the evolution of the temperature of concrete cast to the structure and the evolution of its hardened state properties like compressive strength, usually at early ages. Its use is justified when safety and agility are required for activities like prestressing, shoring removal, demolding and low temperature concrete curing analysis. Temperate regions are known for having lower temperatures during the winter, which can delay concrete strength gains. The aim of this study was to apply the maturity method to a reinforced concrete structure located in Southern Brazil in industrial construction. It was noted that the concrete, despite being expected to reach 30 MPa at 28 days, managed to reach 70% of the strength at 8.5 days for slab 1. Slab 2, whose function was to support garners 4, 5 and 6, presented the data at 4.4 days, it being possible to measure such property using the maturity method.

Resumo Eleocharis (Cyperaceae) inclui mais de 300 espécies de ervas perenes ou anuais, frequentemente encontradas em solos pouco drenados. As espécies são morfologicamente semelhantes e a taxonomia é difícil devido às estruturas vegetativas e reprodutivas reduzidas. Estudo anterior sobre a arquitetura do caule no subgênero Limnochloa mostrou que as características anatômicas ajudam na interpretação da evolução, taxonomia e aspectos ecológicos do grupo. Nossos objetivos foram adicionar novos caracteres da estrutura do caule (= colmo), explorar os caracteres em um número maior de espécies de Eleocharis, com representantes de outros subgêneros, e adicionar esses dados em uma nova análise filogenética com dados moleculares. O estudo abrangeu 68 espécies obtidas de herbários e material fixado. Além da arquitetura do caule, foram incluídas na análise morfológica a organização interna dos tecidos, o formato da seção transversal, a presença ou ausência de células estiradas nos espaços de aerênquima e o porte da planta. Nossos dados confirmam que o padrão de aerênquima esponjoso é a condição ancestral, enquanto os padrões misto e septados ocorreram independentemente e pontualmente. Somente o formato da seção transversal foi variável entre as amostras, enquanto os demais caracteres foram uniformes e relevantes para o uso taxonômico.

Abstract Eleocharis (Cyperaceae) includes more than 300 species of perennial or annual herbs, frequently found on poorly drained soils. The species are morphologicaly similar, and the taxonomy is difficult because their vegetative and reproductive structures are very reduced. Previous study on the stem architecture in the subgenus Limnochloa showed that anatomical features help in the interpretation of the evolution, taxonomy and ecological aspects of the group. Our objectives were to add new characters from the stem (= culm) structure, to explore the characters in a greater number of Eleocharis species, representatives of the other subgenera, and add these data in a new phylogenetic analysis with molecular data. The study covered 68 species obtained from herbaria and fixed material. In addition to the stem architecture, the internal organization of the tissues, the cross-section format, the presence or absence of stretched cells in aerenchyma air gaps and the plant size were included in the morphological analysis. Our data confirm that spongy aerenchyma pattern is the ancestral condition while the mixed and septate patterns occurred independent and punctually. Only the cross-section format was variable among specimens while the other characters were uniform and relevant for taxonomic use.

Resumo Objetivo Este estudo tem como objetivo descrever um novo método radiográfico com carga fisiológica para visualizar as cabeças dos cinco metatarsos no plano coronal. Métodos Os indivíduos foram radiograficamente avaliados com carga, com o tornozelo a 20º de flexão plantar e as articulações metatarsofalângicas a 10º de extensão, posicionadas em um dispositivo de madeira. As medidas foram aferidas por dois avaliadores independentes, sendo que um deles mediu em dois momentos distintos, obtendo a correlação inter e intraobservador, com o coeficiente de correlação intraclasses. Resultados Examinamos 63 pés, obtendo um coeficiente de correlação interobservador do método radiográfico para as alturas das cabeças dos metatarsos no plano coronal do 1º, 2º, 3º, 4º e 5º metatarsos de, respectivamente, 0,90, 0,85, 0,86, 0,83, 0,89. O coeficiente de correlação intraobservador foi, respectivamente, 0,95, 0,93, 0,93, 0,86, 0,92. Conclusão Essas correlações demonstram que o método é preciso e pode ser usado para investigar os desalinhamentos de cabeça dos metatarsos nesse plano.

Abstract Objective The present study aims to describe a new weightbearing radiographic method to visualize the heads of the five metatarsals on the coronal plane, evaluating their accuracy through intraclass correlation coefficients. Methods The subjects were evaluated, with weightbearing, with the ankle at 20 degrees of plantar flexion and the metatarsophalangeal joints at 10 degrees of extension, positioned on a wooden device. Two independent foot and ankle surgeons evaluated the radiography, with one of them doing it twice, at different moments, achieving an inter and intraobserver correlation, with intraclass correlation coefficients. Results We radiographed 63 feet, achieving an interobserver correlation coefficient of the radiographic method for the metatarsal heads heights in the coronal plane of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th metatarsals of, respectively, 0.90, 0.85, 0.86, 0.83, 0.89. The intraobserver correlation coefficient were, respectively, 0.95, 0.93, 0.93, 0.86, 0.92. Conclusion Those correlations demonstrate that the method is accurate and can be used to investigate metatarsal head misalignments in this plane.

Resumo Objetivo: Avaliar a acurácia da ressonância magnética (RM) para o diagnóstico de hálux valgo usando radiografias com carga como padrão ouro. Materiais e Métodos: Análise retrospectiva de pacientes que realizaram RM do antepé e radiografias com carga, de janeiro a junho de 2015. O ângulo metatarsofalangiano (AMF) foi medido nas RMs e nas radiografias. O teste de Wilcoxon e regressão linear foram utilizados para comparar as mensurações. Pacientes foram divididos de acordo com os valores do AMF nas radiografias: > 15° (hálux valgo) e ≤ 15° (grupo controle). Avaliações qualitativa e quantitativa foram realizadas por RM. Para análise quantitativa, uma curva ROC foi utilizada para definir o ponto de corte com maior acurácia. Resultados: Foram incluídas 66 RMs, 22 no grupo com hálux valgo e 44 no grupo controle. O teste de Wilcoxon indicou diferença significativa entre os métodos. Avaliação de regressão demonstrou relação não linear entre as medidas e e os valores não apresentaram boa correlação. Considerando os grupos hálux valgo e controle, um valor de corte 16,4° na RM demonstrou maior acurácia (86%). A avaliação subjetiva foi inferior à avaliação objetiva. Conclusão: A medida do AMF na RM pode ser utilizada para diagnóstico de hálux valgo, com um valor de corte de 16,4°.

Abstract Objective: To assess the accuracy of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for the diagnosis of hallux valgus using radiography during weight bearing as the gold standard. Materials and Methods: This was a retrospective analysis of all patients undergoing MRI of the foot and radiography of the foot during weight bearing at our institution between January and June of 2015. The hallux valgus angle (HVA) was measured on MRI and radiography. The Wilcoxon signed-rank test and simple linear regression were used in order to compare measurements. Patients were divided into two groups according to the HVA determined on radiography: > 15° (hallux valgus) and ≤ 15° (control). Qualitative and quantitative assessments of MRI scans were performed. For quantitative assessment, receiver operating characteristic curves were used in order to determine the HVA cutoff with the highest accuracy. Results: A total of 66 MRI scans were included, 22 in the hallux valgus group and 44 in the control group. Wilcoxon signed-rank tests indicated a significant difference between the radiography and MRI measurements. Simple linear regression showed a nonlinear relationship between the measurements and values did not present a strong correlation. In comparison with the radiography measurements, MRI with an HVA cutoff of 16.4° exhibited the highest accuracy (86%). The accuracy of the subjective (qualitative) assessment was inferior to the objective assessment (measurement of the HVA). Conclusion: Hallux valgus can be diagnosed by measuring the HVA on MRI, satisfactory accuracy being achieved with an HVA cutoff of 16.4°.

Resumo Cyperaceae é a terceira maior família dentre as monocotiledôneas, com grande representatividade em ambientes campestres. O presente estudo teve como objetivo realizar o levantamento florístico de Cyperaceae nas formações campestres do Parque Estadual do Guartelá (PEG) e elaborar chaves de identificação para as espécies, sendo o primeiro para a família nestes tipos de formações para o estado do Paraná. O PEG apresenta uma vegetação relictual do Paraná, onde predominam fisionomias campestres, destacando-se áreas abertas e afloramentos rochosos. O levantamento foi realizado com base em coletas em campo e buscas em banco de dados. A família Cyperaceae no PEG está representada por 32 táxons pertencentes a sete gêneros, sendo Rhynchospora (11 spp.), Bulbostylis (8 spp.) e Cyperus (7 spp.) os que apresentaram a maior riqueza. Ressalta-se que todas as espécies são nativas, sendo duas endêmicas do Brasil. Registrou-se a ocorrência das espécies tanto em áreas drenadas quanto úmidas, destacando a importância da conservação dos microambientes do parque. São fornecidas principais literaturas para cada gênero, informações acerca da distribuição e habitat.

Abstract Cyperaceae is the third largest family among the monocotyledons and is highly represented in grassland environments. The aim of the present study was to conduct a floristic inventory of Cyperaceae in the grasslands of Guartelá State Park (GSP) and to elaborate keys to identify the species, the first for this family in this vegetation type in Paraná state. The GSP is home to relictual vegetation in Paraná, where grassland phytophysiognomies predominate, especially in open areas and rocky outcrops. The inventory was based on field collections and database searches. The family Cyperaceae is represented in the GSP by 32 taxa belonging to seven genera, with Rhynchospora (11 spp.), Bulbostylis (8 spp.), and Cyperus (7 spp.) being the genera with the greatest richness. It should be noted that all the species are native and two are endemic to Brazil. Species occurrence was recorded both in drylands and wetlands environments, emphasizing the importance of microenvironmental conservation in the park. The main literature sources for each genus, as well as information regarding distribution and habitat, are here provided.
