ABSTRACT The study of the behavior of a power plant boiler in a complex régime, outside of design, was carried out in this work. Since, it takes the advantage of an external source of dry saturated steam. This steam will be super heated in the super heating system of the boiler. The analysis was based on the adaptation of the Normative Thermal Calculation Model in which there is experience. Checking the results of the adjusted model with the stipulated load regimes, the complex regime was calculated for the maximum and minimum loads of the turbine and varying the use of external steam from 20% to 5%, with intervals of 5%, the replacement of the main steam to the turbine. Resulting in that the fuel consumption of the boiler is always lower in complex regime, than the consumption working normally.

ABSTRACT Objective: This study evaluated the accuracy and precision of digital models acquisition using a home-built, low-cost scanning system based on the structured light method. Methods: a plaster model (PM) was scanned using the experimental device (SL) and a dental desktop scanner (DS). The teeth dimensions of PM and SL models were measured in triplicate, with a caliper and digitally, respectively. The agreement of the measurements of each model was evaluated using the intraclass correlation coefficient, and the validity between the different measurement techniques was assessed using the Bland-Altman analysis. The accuracy and precision of the models were qualitatively investigated using the mesh superposition of the SL and DS models. Results: A high intraclass correlation coefficient was observed in all models (PM=0.964; SL1=0.998; SL2=0.995; SL3=0.998), and there was no statistical difference between the measurements of the SL models (p>0.05). PM and SL model measurements were found to be in good agreement, with only 3.57% of the observed differences between the same measurement being located outside 95% limits of agreement according to Bland and Altman (0.43 and -0.40 mm). In the superimpositions of SL-SL and SL-DS models, areas of discrepancy greater than 0.5 mm were observed mainly in interproximal, occlusal, and cervical sites. Conclusion: These results indicate that the home-built SL scanning system did not possess sufficient accuracy and precision for many clinical applications. However, the consistency in preserving the dental proportions suggests that the equipment can be used for planning, storage, and simple clinical purposes. ABSTRACT Introduction: Protocols for obtaining the maximum threshold pressure have been applied with limited precision to evaluate inspiratory muscle endurance. In this sense, new protocols are needed to allow more reliable measurements. The purpose of the present study was to compare a new incremental ramp load protocol for the evaluation of inspiratory muscle endurance with the most used protocol in healthy individuals. Methods: This was a prospective cross-sectional study carried out in a single center. Ninety-two healthy individuals (43 men [22 ± 3 years] and 49 women [22 ± 3 years]) were randomly allocated to perform: (i) incremental ramp load protocol and (ii) incremental step loading protocol. The sustained pressure threshold (or maximum threshold pressure), maximum threshold pressure/dynamic strength index ratio, time until task failure, as well as difference between the mean heart rate of the last five minutes of baseline and the peak heart rate of the last 30 seconds of each protocol were measured. Results: Incremental ramp load protocol with small increases in the load and starting from minimum values of strength index was able to evaluate the inspiratory muscle endurance through the maximum threshold pressure of healthy individuals. Conclusion: The present study suggests that the incremental ramp load protocol is able to measure maximum threshold pressure in a more thorough way, with less progression and greater accuracy in the load stratification compared to the limited incremental step loading protocol and with a safe and expected cardiovascular response in healthy individuals. Aim This study aims to report the perioperative management of a patient with von Willebrand disease (vWd) who underwent orthognathic surgery. The report follows the guidelines of the Case Report Guidelines (CARE) and focuses on the steps taken to prevent bleeding during the surgical procedure. Methods A 39-year-old female patient with skeletal Class III was treated with maxillary advancement and mandibular setback. Despite normal test results for ristocetin cofactor activity, measures were taken to prevent bleeding, including atraumatic surgical techniques, use of antifibrinolytic medication, induced hypotension during anesthesia, and preparation of blood products for transfusion during trans and postoperative periods if needed. In the end, these measures were not required. Results The patient did not experience any bleeding during the surgical procedure or postoperative period, demonstrating the effectiveness of the measures taken to manage their blood dyscrasia. Two years after the surgery, the patient had satisfactory aesthetic and functional results and no evidence of relapse. Conclusion Thus, this case report demonstrates that vWd does not prevent large-scale oral and maxillofacial surgeries such as orthognathic surgery as long as proper precautions are taken pre-, intra- and postoperatively. ABSTRACT: Understanding the changes that occur in seeds during the maturation process is essential to determine the optimal harvest time and to obtain high quality seeds. In this study, anatomical, histochemical and physiological quality data of lentil seeds at different stages of maturation were evaluated. Lentil seeds, cv. Precoz, were produced in an experimental field at the Universidade Federal de Viçosa. Pods were harvested at five stages of maturity: super-green, green, green-yellow, yellow and brown. The anatomical and histochemical characterization of the seeds was performed by light microscopy, with sections stained with Toluidine Blue, Xylidine Ponceau (XP), Lugol and Ruthenium Red. The physiological quality of the seeds was evaluated by germination, seedling emergence index (IVG), seedling emergence, electrical conductivity and accelerated ageing. During lentil seed maturation, protein, and starch reserve deposition occurs when the pods are at the green stage and stabilizes from the yellow stage. Seed coat cracks were observed in seeds from brown pods. Seed germination was similar among the different stages of maturity. Seeds from yellow pods were more vigorous than those from green and brown pods. Abstract Brazilian Red Propolis is a resinous material produced by Apis mellifera bees through the collection of the exudates of Dalbergia ecastaphyllum , rich in flavonoids, and Symphonia globulifera and Clusia species, which are rich in polyprenylated benzophenones. More than 200 compounds, including flavonoids and polyprenylated benzophenones have been found in Brazilian red propolis. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the chemical composition and antiviral activity of an ethanolic extract of red propolis from Alagoas, Brazil, against Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV-1). In the HPLC-PDA-ESI-MS/MS analysis were detected flavanones, isoflavones, chalcones, pterocarpans and polyprenylated benzophenones. The measurement of antiviral activity of red propolis extract was performed by DNA quantification through quantitative real-time PCR assay and negative staining Electron Microscopy. The pretreatment, post-treatment, and virucide assays using ethanolic extract of red propolis with concentration of 8, 12, 24, 48, or 96 µ g/mL, indicated an inhibition of the viral binding and viral entry into cells as well as the replication of HSV-1. In the electron microscopy imaging was observed the disruption of the viral membrane in the HSV-1 treated with red propolis, when compared with HSV-1 that was treated with phosphate buffered saline alone, indicating that ethanolic extract from red propolis can act directly on the viral envelope, through lipid membrane degradation and/or directly blocking the enriched proteins on the viral surface. species 20 compounds Alagoas Brazil HSV1. Abstract The Ibitipoca Mountains occur in southeastern Minas Gerais state, Southeast Brazil, and includes a mosaic of different vegetation types, as part of the Atlantic Forest domain. Such heterogeneity results in the occurrence of several ecotones in the region, considered essential buffer zones for maintaining biodiversity and structure among adjacent ecosystems. Given the importance of these environments for biodiversity conservation, floristic surveys are important to catalogue plant richness in natural areas, where species and landscapes have been destroyed, especially over the last decades. To contribute to increase the knowledge on the vascular Flora in the Ibitipoca Mountains, a floristic inventory was undertaken in private properties located in the boundaries of “Parque Estadual do Ibitipoca” (Ibitipoca State Park). Relevant findings of the present study include: characterization of the different vegetation types, 17 new records for the Flora of Minas Gerais, collection of 288 species never recorded in the state park (80% dissimilarity – especially due to the occurrence and size of different phytophysiognomies between these areas) and presence of 31 threatened species. ABSTRACT The limited temporal completeness and taxonomic accuracy of species lists, made available in a traditional manner in scientific publications, has always represented a problem. These lists are invariably limited to a few taxonomic groups and do not represent up-to-date knowledge of all species and classifications. In this context, the Brazilian megadiverse fauna is no exception, and the Catálogo Taxonômico da Fauna do Brasil (CTFB) (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/), made public in 2015, represents a database on biodiversity anchored on a list of valid and expertly recognized scientific names of animals in Brazil. The CTFB is updated in near real time by a team of more than 800 specialists. By January 1, 2024, the CTFB compiled 133,691 nominal species, with 125,138 that were considered valid. Most of the valid species were arthropods (82.3%, with more than 102,000 species) and chordates (7.69%, with over 11,000 species). These taxa were followed by a cluster composed of Mollusca (3,567 species), Platyhelminthes (2,292 species), Annelida (1,833 species), and Nematoda (1,447 species). All remaining groups had less than 1,000 species reported in Brazil, with Cnidaria (831 species), Porifera (628 species), Rotifera (606 species), and Bryozoa (520 species) representing those with more than 500 species. Analysis of the CTFB database can facilitate and direct efforts towards the discovery of new species in Brazil, but it is also fundamental in providing the best available list of valid nominal species to users, including those in science, health, conservation efforts, and any initiative involving animals. The importance of the CTFB is evidenced by the elevated number of citations in the scientific literature in diverse areas of biology, law, anthropology, education, forensic science, and veterinary science, among others. publications problem uptodate up date classifications context exception (CTFB http//fauna.jbrj.gov.br/, httpfaunajbrjgovbr http //fauna.jbrj.gov.br/ , jbrj gov br (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/) 2015 Brazil 80 specialists 1 2024 133691 133 691 133,69 125138 125 138 125,13 82.3%, 823 82 3 (82.3% 102000 102 000 102,00 7.69%, 769 7 69 (7.69% 11000 11 11,00 . 3,567 3567 567 (3,56 2,292 2292 2 292 (2,29 1,833 1833 833 (1,83 1,447 1447 447 (1,44 1000 1,00 831 (83 628 (62 606 (60 520 (52 50 users science health biology law anthropology education others http//fauna.jbrj.gov.br/ faunajbrjgovbr //fauna.jbrj.gov.br (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/ 201 8 202 13369 13 133,6 12513 12 125,1 82.3% (82.3 10200 10 00 102,0 7.69% 76 6 (7.69 1100 11,0 3,56 356 56 (3,5 2,29 229 29 (2,2 1,83 183 83 (1,8 1,44 144 44 (1,4 100 1,0 (8 62 (6 60 52 (5 5 http//fauna.jbrj.gov.br (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br 20 1336 133, 1251 125, 82.3 (82. 1020 0 102, 7.69 (7.6 110 11, 3,5 35 (3, 2,2 22 (2, 1,8 18 (1, 1,4 14 4 ( 82. ABSTRACT Objectives To evaluate the complete response (CR) rate and surgeries performed in patients with rectal adenocarcinoma who underwent neoadjuvant therapy (NT) at Hospital das Clínicas da Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de São Paulo and at Hospital São Paulo, in Ribeirão Preto, from January 2007 to December 2017. Methods We evaluated 166 medical records of patients with locally advanced rectal adenocarcinoma (T3, T4 or N+) who underwent NT. The regimen consisted of performing conventional (2D) or conformational (three-dimensional-3D/ radiotherapy with modulated intensity – IMRT) at a dose of 45-50.4Gy associated with capecitabine 1650mg/m2 or 5-fluorouracil (5FU) and leucovorin (LV). The following variables were analyzed: gender, age, pretreatment stage, radiotherapy, CR index, local and distant recurrence rates. Surgical treatment and complications were also evaluated. Results The CR index was 28.3%. Patients treated with 3D/IMRT radiotherapy had a higher rate of CR (36.3% x 4.8%; p < 0.001), higher rates of clinical follow-up (21% x 0%; p < 0.001), lower surgery rates (79% x 100%; p < 0.001), higher rates of transanal resection (37.1% x 9.5%; p = 0.001), lower rates of abdominal rectosigmoidectomy (25.8% x 50%; p = 0.007) and lower rates of abdominoperineal resection of the rectum (16.1% x 40.5%; p = 0.002), when compared to patients treated with 2D radiotherapy. Conclusion Modern radiotherapy techniques such as 3D conformal and IMRT, by offering greater adequacy and precision of treatment, could result in better local control and less toxicity in organs at risk, enabling organ preservation strategies and less invasive approaches in selected cases.
Abstract In this work, edible films (PCs) based on chitosan (Q), agar (A) and thyme oil (T) were prepared in four different formulations (Q, A, QA and QAT), and their mechanical properties (tension and elongation at break) and water vapor permeability were evaluated. Infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were also performed. The QA and QAT PCs stood out for their tensile strength, transparency, water vapor transmission rate and permeance, as well as the highest antioxidant activity. The effect of the application of the edible coatings (RCs) of QA and QAT on the quality of ‘Hass’ avocado fruit was evaluated during 13 d of storage at 25 °C. The following variables were evaluated periodically: weight loss, respiration rate, ethylene production, visual appearance, and rotting. The application of RCs to the fruit reduced their weight loss and extended their shelf life. The RCs gave the fruit a barrier to water vapor, reducing weight loss by 40 with respect to the control. In addition, the incidence of fruit rots was reduced.

Abstract Human Respiratory Syncytial Virus (hRSV) infection results in death and hospitalization of thousands of people worldwide each year. Unfortunately, there are no vaccines or specific treatments for hRSV infections. Screening hundreds or even thousands of promising molecules is a challenge for science. We integrated biological, structural, and physicochemical properties to train and to apply the concept of artificial intelligence (AI) able to predict flavonoids with potential anti-hRSV activity. During the training and simulation steps, the AI produced results with hit rates of more than 83%. The better AIs were able to predict active or inactive flavonoids against hRSV. In the future, in vitro and/or in vivo evaluations of these flavonoids may accelerate trials for new anti-RSV drugs, reduce hospitalizations, deaths, and morbidity caused by this infection worldwide, and be used as input in these networks to determine which parameter is more important for their decision. Abstract The pathogenesis of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is complex. Few studies in Brazilian population have addressed cell phenotypes associated with immunological responses and their associations with SLE activity. The aim of this study is to investigate cell phenotypes associated to SLE diagnosis, treatment and activity. Twenty-eight SLE female patients (17 inactive, 11 active) and 10 healthy women were included in this study. Markers of natural killer (Nk), T and B cells in peripheral blood were evaluated by flow cytometry. Nkt cells were decreased only in SLE active patients. Activated CD4+, regulatory T FoxP3+ and B cells were decreased in both active and inactive SLE patients, compared to control group. The data corroborate the disruption of immune regulatory response in SLE patients and suggest phenotipic changes as possible biomarkers of SLE activity.
Abstract Background Studies on the prevalence of rare visceral aneurysms are still scarce and the few studies that have focused on these aneurysms present prevalence rates in groups of patients with visceral aneurysms, but little is known about their prevalence in the general population. Objectives To assess the prevalence of rare visceral aneurysms on CAT scans performed for diagnosis and follow-up of patients with other vascular pathologies. Methods This cross-sectional study began by accessing all reports from CAT scans performed between January 2005 and July 2021 at a private hospital of excellence located in the city of São Paulo. A software program for pre-indexed reports was used to search the Radiological Information System (RIS) database to identify reports of patients with intra-abdominal aneurysms. Results CAT scan reports from 92,883 patients were accessed. Of these, 2,597 (2.795%) showed intra-abdominal aneurysms, 937 (1.063%) of which were visceral, including 158 (0.171%) rare visceral aneurysms, which were more frequent among male patients and in the following segments: celiac trunk (0.098%), superior mesenteric (0.033%), left gastric (0.010%), pancreatic-duodenal (0.009%), and gastroduodenal arteries (0.005%) and the pancreatic arch (0.004%). Lower prevalence was found in other segments. Additional findings revealed concomitance of rare visceral aneurysms with other intra-abdominal aneurysms ranging from 11.11% to 66.67%. Conclusions The prevalence of rare visceral aneurysms in a large population undergoing CAT scan was 0.171%, with greater involvement in male patients. followup follow up pathologies crosssectional cross sectional 200 202 Paulo preindexed pre indexed RIS (RIS intraabdominal intra abdominal 92883 92 883 92,88 accessed 2597 2 597 2,59 2.795% 2795 795 (2.795% 93 1.063% 1063 1 063 (1.063% 15 0.171% 0171 0 171 (0.171% segments 0.098%, 0098 0.098% , 098 (0.098%) 0.033%, 0033 0.033% 033 (0.033%) 0.010%, 0010 0.010% 010 (0.010%) pancreaticduodenal duodenal 0.009%, 0009 0.009% 009 (0.009%) 0.005% 0005 005 (0.005% 0.004%. 0004 0.004% . 004 (0.004%) 1111 11 11.11 6667 66 67 66.67% 20 9288 9 88 92,8 259 59 2,5 2.795 279 79 (2.795 1.063 106 06 (1.063 0.171 017 17 (0.171 0.098 09 (0.098% 003 0.033 03 (0.033% 001 0.010 01 (0.010% 000 0.009 00 (0.009% 0.005 (0.005 0.004 (0.004% 111 11.1 666 6 66.67 928 8 92, 25 5 2, 2.79 27 7 (2.79 1.06 10 (1.06 0.17 (0.17 0.09 (0.098 0.03 (0.033 0.01 (0.010 0.00 (0.009 (0.00 (0.004 11. 66.6 2.7 (2.7 1.0 (1.0 0.1 (0.1 0.0 (0.09 (0.03 (0.01 (0.0 66. 2.
