Abstract: This study aimed to describe the severity of abortion-related complications, factors associated with complications, the types of management and the experience of care in Brazil. A cross-sectional study in twenty hospitals (10 in Federal District, 3 in Rondônia and 7 in Maranhão). For 3 months, all women treated for abortion/miscarriage had their data collected. The severity of complications was defined according to World Health Organization criteria. Women with hemorrhage, infection or organs injury were invited to answer an interview about experience of care. Statistical analysis was performed using chi-square test and Poisson regression models. Among 1,683 women included, 82.5% had mild complications, 13.6% had moderate complications, 3.2% had potentially life-threatening conditions (PLTC) and 0.7% had severe maternal outcomes (SMO). Most women (94.2%) required uterine evacuation. Among these, 91.5% required surgical evacuation (with or without the use of uterotonics) and 8.5% used only uterotonics. The most frequent surgical evacuation method was curettage (66.9%), followed by manual vacuum aspiration (MVA) (32.3%). Factors associated with PLTC/SMO vs mild complications were having a gestational age ≥ 13 weeks (pravlence ratio - PR = 3.09; 95% confidence interval - 95%CI: 1.42-6.72), having been treated in Maranhão (PR = 0.27; 95%CI: 0.12-0.63) and in Rondônia (PR = 0.64; 95%CI: 0.20-0.99). Factors associated with moderate vs. mild complications were expulsion of products of conception before arrival to health facility (PR = 2.55; 95%CI: 1.64-3.96) and having been treated in Maranhão (PR = 0.58; 95%CI: 0.38-0.87). Most women who responded to the interview were treated kindly (95.6%), however, 66.7% felt stressed and 10.1% reported that their preferences were not respected during hospitalization. Nine out of ten women treated in Brazilian public hospitals due to abortion-related complications undergo some surgical procedure, the most common of which is uterine curettage. Approximately four in every hundred women experience severe complications. It is essential to ensure the supply of equipment for MVA and to encourage continuing medical education programs to increase the awareness of healthcare professionals about safer treatments for uterine evacuation.

ABSTRACT: This study evaluated the impacts of thermal processing on the chemical composition of jackfruit seeds and their toxicity. The ash content of the seeds subjected to roasting was higher (3.21%) compared to the seeds in the other treatments. However, the contents of moisture (5.29%) and protein (10.49%) were lower. The protein content showed a significant difference (P≤ 0.05) among the studied groups (10.49%). The lipid content was lower in the seeds subjected to cooking (1.13%), while the carbohydrate content showed a significant difference (P≤ 0.05) among the groups studied (54.11%). Raw seeds had the highest fiber content (25.20%). Regarding toxicity, only the cooked jackfruit seed flour showed cytotoxic potential. However, none of the samples caused irritation or vascular disorders in fertilized eggs. These results suggested that heat treatment can ensure the safety of seeds against cytotoxicity; although, it reduces the content of some macronutrients.

ABSTRACT The limited temporal completeness and taxonomic accuracy of species lists, made available in a traditional manner in scientific publications, has always represented a problem. These lists are invariably limited to a few taxonomic groups and do not represent up-to-date knowledge of all species and classifications. In this context, the Brazilian megadiverse fauna is no exception, and the Catálogo Taxonômico da Fauna do Brasil (CTFB) (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/), made public in 2015, represents a database on biodiversity anchored on a list of valid and expertly recognized scientific names of animals in Brazil. The CTFB is updated in near real time by a team of more than 800 specialists. By January 1, 2024, the CTFB compiled 133,691 nominal species, with 125,138 that were considered valid. Most of the valid species were arthropods (82.3%, with more than 102,000 species) and chordates (7.69%, with over 11,000 species). These taxa were followed by a cluster composed of Mollusca (3,567 species), Platyhelminthes (2,292 species), Annelida (1,833 species), and Nematoda (1,447 species). All remaining groups had less than 1,000 species reported in Brazil, with Cnidaria (831 species), Porifera (628 species), Rotifera (606 species), and Bryozoa (520 species) representing those with more than 500 species. Analysis of the CTFB database can facilitate and direct efforts towards the discovery of new species in Brazil, but it is also fundamental in providing the best available list of valid nominal species to users, including those in science, health, conservation efforts, and any initiative involving animals. The importance of the CTFB is evidenced by the elevated number of citations in the scientific literature in diverse areas of biology, law, anthropology, education, forensic science, and veterinary science, among others. publications problem uptodate up date classifications context exception (CTFB http//fauna.jbrj.gov.br/, httpfaunajbrjgovbr http //fauna.jbrj.gov.br/ , jbrj gov br (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/) 2015 Brazil 80 specialists 1 2024 133691 133 691 133,69 125138 125 138 125,13 82.3%, 823 82 3 (82.3% 102000 102 000 102,00 7.69%, 769 7 69 (7.69% 11000 11 11,00 . 3,567 3567 567 (3,56 2,292 2292 2 292 (2,29 1,833 1833 833 (1,83 1,447 1447 447 (1,44 1000 1,00 831 (83 628 (62 606 (60 520 (52 50 users science health biology law anthropology education others http//fauna.jbrj.gov.br/ faunajbrjgovbr //fauna.jbrj.gov.br (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/ 201 8 202 13369 13 133,6 12513 12 125,1 82.3% (82.3 10200 10 00 102,0 7.69% 76 6 (7.69 1100 11,0 3,56 356 56 (3,5 2,29 229 29 (2,2 1,83 183 83 (1,8 1,44 144 44 (1,4 100 1,0 (8 62 (6 60 52 (5 5 http//fauna.jbrj.gov.br (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br 20 1336 133, 1251 125, 82.3 (82. 1020 0 102, 7.69 (7.6 110 11, 3,5 35 (3, 2,2 22 (2, 1,8 18 (1, 1,4 14 4 ( 82. Abstract Objectives: To identify somatic mutations in tumors from young women with triple-negative or luminal breast cancer, through targeted sequencing and to explore the cancer driver potential of these gene variants. Methods: A customized gene panel was assembled based on data from previous sequencing studies of breast cancer from young women. Triple-negative and luminal tumors and paired blood samples from young breast cancer patients were sequenced, and identified gene variants were searched for their driver potential, in databases and literature. Additionally, the authors performed an exploratory analysis using large, curated databases to evaluate the frequency of somatic mutations in this gene panel in tumors stratified by age groups (every 10 years). Results: A total of 28 young women had their tumoral tissue and blood samples sequenced. Using a customized panel of 64 genes, the authors could detect cancer drivers in 11/12 (91.7 %) TNBC samples and 11/16 (68.7 %) luminal samples. Among TNBC patients, the most frequent cancer driver was TP53, followed by NF1, NOTCH1 and PTPN13. In luminal samples, PIK3CA and GATA3 were the main cancer drivers, and other drivers were GRHL2 and SMURF2. CACNA1E was involved in both TN and luminal BC. The exploratory analysis also indicated a role for SMURF2 in luminal BC development in young patients. Conclusions: The data further indicates that some cancer drivers are more common in a specific breast cancer subtype from young patients, such as TP53 in TNBC and PIK3CA and GATA3 in luminal samples. These results also provide additional evidence that some genes not considered classical cancer-causing genes, such as CACNA1E, GRHL2 and SMURF2 might be cancer drivers in this age group. . Abstract This article reports on a golden-billed saltator Saltator aurantiirostris Vieillot, 1817, kept in captivity outside its natural distribution area, in the proximities of the Itatiaia National Park, as a new host for Isospora similisi Coelho, Berto, Neves, Oliveira, Flausino & Lopes, 2013. Additionally, a supplementary molecular identification is provided through the sequencing of three non-overlapping loci of mitochondrial DNA and one locus of the 18S small subunit ribosomal RNA (18S) gene. All the taxonomic features of the I. similisi oocysts shed by S. aurantiirostris were equivalent to those originally described from Saltator similis d’Orbigny & Lafresnaye, 1837. The new sequenced loci were identical, or showed 99.9% similarity, to the samples of I. similisi from S. similis and S. aurantiirostris, confirming the same species from both hosts. Lastly, I. similisi is estimated as a junior synonym of Isospora formarum McQuistion & Capparella, 1992, due to the morphological similarities and wide distribution of its hosts in the Neotropical region. Therefore, this study encourages future taxonomic inquiries into I. similisi collected from other Saltator spp. in order to establish this synonymization of I. formarum with I. similisi, and hence, its wide distribution and dispersion in the Neotropical region, including across the Andes mountains. goldenbilled golden billed Vieillot 1817 area Park Coelho Berto Neves Oliveira Lopes 2013 Additionally nonoverlapping non overlapping S (18S gene I dOrbigny d Orbigny Lafresnaye 1837 identical 999 99 9 99.9 similarity Lastly Capparella 1992 region Therefore spp hence mountains 181 201 183 99. 199 18 20 19 1 2

ABSTRACT Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of different restorative materials for use in CAD-CAM on biaxial flexural strength after accelerated mechanical and thermal aging. Methods: Samples were fabricated and divided into two groups: CL (leucite-reinforced ceramic: IPS Empress CAD) and NR (nanoceramic resin: Lava Ultimate). Morphological analysis of the surface was performed using Scanning Electron Microscopy, and chemical analysis was conducted using Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy on one sample from each group. All samples underwent accelerated aging, initially through fatigue testing using a mechanical cyclic loading machine (200,000 cycles, 15N force, 1Hz rotation speed) in distilled water at room temperature (37°C). Subsequently, thermal aging was carried out in a thermocycler (5,000 cycles, baths at 5°C and 55°C). Results: The CL group exhibited a more diffuse surface, and chemically, it showed the presence of Silicon, Oxygen, Aluminum, Sodium, Potassium, and Calcium. The NR group had a more compact surface and contained the following chemical elements: Oxygen, Silicon, Carbon, Zirconium, Nitrogen, Aluminum, and Sodium. The CL (193.1MPa) showed a higher mechanical strength value than the NR (52.45MPa), which was statistically significant. However, the NR (2.3) exhibited a lower average number of fragments after fracture compared to the CL (5.6). Conclusion: Restorative materials exhibited distinct morphology and chemical composition. These restorative materials had a statistically significant effect on biaxial flexural strength, with leucite-reinforced ceramics being mechanically superior to nanoceramic resin. And the ceramic matrix resin family showed a lower quantity of fragments after fracture compared to the material representing the glass-ceramic family. ABSTRACT Background: Patients with peripheral arterial disease have an increased risk of developing cardiovascular complications in the postoperative period of arterial surgeries known as Major Adverse Cardiac Events (MACE), which includes acute myocardial infarction, heart failure, malignant arrhythmias, and stroke. The preoperative evaluation aims to reduce mortality and the risk of MACE. However, there is no standardized approach to performing them. The aim of this study was to compare the preoperative evaluation conducted by general practitioners with those performed by cardiologists. Methods: This is a retrospective analysis of medical records of patients who underwent elective arterial surgeries from January 2016 to December 2020 at a tertiary hospital in São Paulo, Brazil. The authors compared the preoperative evaluation of these patients according to the initial evaluator (general practitioners vs. cardiologists), assessing patients’ clinical factors, mortality, postoperative MACE incidence, rate of requested non-invasive stratification tests, length of hospital stay, among others. Results: 281 patients were evaluated: 169 assessed by cardiologists and 112 by general practitioners. Cardiologists requested more non-invasive stratification tests (40.8%) compared to general practitioners (9%) (p < 0.001), with no impact on mortality (8.8% versus 10.7%; p = 0.609) and postoperative MACE incidence (10.6% versus 6.2%; p = 0.209). The total length of hospital stay was longer in the cardiologist group (17.27 versus 11.79 days; p < 0.001). Conclusion: The increased request for exams didn’t have a significant impact on mortality and postoperative MACE incidence, but prolonged the total length of hospital stay. Health managers should consider these findings and ensure appropriate utilization of human and financial resources. Abstract Background Patients with immune-mediated rheumatic diseases (IMRDs) have been prioritized for COVID-19 vaccination to mitigate the infection severity risks. Patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) are at a high risk of severe COVID-19 outcomes, especially those under immunosuppression or with associated comorbidities. However, few studies have assessed the safety of the COVID-19 vaccine in patients with RA. Objective To evaluate the safety of vaccines against SARS-CoV-2 in patients with RA. Methods This data are from the study “Safety and Efficacy on COVID-19 Vaccine in Rheumatic Diseases,” a Brazilian multicentric prospective phase IV study to evaluate COVID-19 vaccine in IMRDs in Brazil. Adverse events (AEs) in patients with RA of all centers were assessed after two doses of ChAdOx1 (Oxford/AstraZeneca) or CoronaVac (Sinovac/Butantan). Stratification of postvaccination AEs was performed using a diary, filled out daily and returned at the end of 28 days for each dose. Results A total of 188 patients with RA were include, 90% female. CoronaVac was used in 109 patients and ChAdOx1 in 79. Only mild AEs were observed, mainly after the first dose. The most common AEs after the first dose were pain at the injection (46,7%), headache (39,4%), arthralgia (39,4%), myalgia (30,5%) and fatigue (26,6%), and ChAdOx1 had a higher frequency of pain at the injection (66% vs 32 %, p < 0.001) arthralgia (62% vs 22%, p < 0.001) and myalgia (45% vs 20%, p < 0.001) compared to CoronaVac. The more common AEs after the second dose were pain at the injection (37%), arthralgia (31%), myalgia (23%), headache (21%) and fatigue (18%). Arthralgia (41,4% vs 25%, p = 0.02) and pain at injection (51,4% vs 27%, p = 0.001) were more common with ChAdOx1. No serious AEs were related. With Regard to RA activity level, no significant difference was observed between the three time periods for both COVID-19 vaccines. Conclusion In the comparison between the two immunizers in patients with RA, local reactions and musculoskeletal symptoms were more frequent with ChAdOx1 than with CoronaVac, especially after the first dose. In summary, the AE occurred mainly after the first dose, and were mild, like previous data from others immunizing agents in patients with rheumatoid arthritis. Vaccination did not worsen the degree of disease activity. immunemediated immune mediated (IMRDs COVID19 COVID 19 COVID-1 risks (RA outcomes comorbidities However SARSCoV2 SARSCoV SARS CoV 2 SARS-CoV- Safety Diseases, Diseases Brazil (AEs ChAdOx Oxford/AstraZeneca OxfordAstraZeneca Oxford AstraZeneca (Oxford/AstraZeneca Sinovac/Butantan.
ABSTRACT Departing from the literature that established a positive relation between exchange rate undervaluation and economic growth, this paper explores the causes of persistent undervaluation (or overvaluation) of the exchange rate. We first discuss the variables that could explain persistent misalignment of the real exchange rate on a theoretical basis. Then we present empirical evidence of the relation between those variables in selected country groups. We proceed by employing econometric models to estimate the overvaluation or undervaluation based on a panel dataset comprising 119 countries from 1980 to 2022. Our findings indicate that countries with higher savings rates, government debt, and openness to trade tend to exhibit a more undervalued currency, the opposite happening to countries with better terms of trade and larger capital inflows. growth basis groups 11 198 2022 rates debt currency inflows 1 19 202 20 2

Abstract Neotropical fishes emerge as an extremely diverse group of vertebrates where genomic strategies to evaluate structural and functional features are still beginning. Here, we present a second draft genome of Apareiodon sp. (2n=54, ZZ/ZW), adding PacBio technology whole genome sequencing, and assembling by combining two technologies (long and short reads). Using a detailed strategy for genome assembly with fish genomes of Pygocentrus nattereri, Carassius auratus, and Astyanax mexicanus as references, the final assembly of the Apareiodon sp. genome generated 93 scaffolds, an N50 of 37,200,078 bases, and a size estimate considering 28 scaffolds (26 autosomes+ZW) of ~945 Mb. In Apareiodon sp., this second genome draft confirmed that ~36% of the genome is composed of repetitive DNA. Furthermore, the new draft genome has improved genomic quality assessments, allowing the annotation of 36,290 genes and 15,683 proteins, which presented similarities to reference genomes. The second draft genome of Apareiodon sp. will be useful for research on integrative cytogenetic and genomic data. It will open perspectives for analyzing sex-determining genes in Neotropical fish with a ZZ/ZW sex chromosome system. beginning Here sp 2n=54, 2n54 n 2n 54 (2n=54 ZZ/ZW, ZZZW , ZZ ZW ZZ/ZW) sequencing long reads. reads . reads) nattereri auratus references 9 N N5 37200078 37 200 078 37,200,07 bases 2 26 (2 autosomes+ZW autosomesZW autosomes 945 ~94 Mb 36 ~36 DNA Furthermore assessments 36290 290 36,29 15683 15 683 15,68 proteins data sexdetermining determining system 2n=54 2n5 5 (2n=5 3720007 3 20 07 37,200,0 ( 94 ~9 ~3 3629 29 36,2 1568 1 68 15,6 2n=5 (2n= 372000 0 37,200, ~ 362 36, 156 6 15, 2n= (2n 37200 37,200 3720 37,20 372 37,2 37,

Trial . Background: Adhering to a diet adequate in macronutrients is crucial for the secondary prevention of cardiovascular diseases. Objective: To assess the prevalence of adherence to recommendations for the consumption of dietary fatty acids for the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases and to estimate whether the presence of certain cardiovascular risk factors would be associated with adherence. Methods: Cross-sectional study using baseline data from 2,358 participants included in the "Brazilian Cardioprotective Nutritional Program Trial". Dietary intake and cardiovascular risk factors were assessed. Adequate intake of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) was considered as ≥10% of total daily energy intake; for monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFA), 20%; and for saturated fatty acids (SFA), <7% according to the Brazilian Society of Cardiology. A significance level of 5% was considered in the statistical analysis. Results: No participant adhered to all recommendations simultaneously, and more than half (1,482 [62.9%]) did not adhere to any recommendation. Adherence exclusively to the SFA recommendation was the most prevalent, fulfilled by 659 (28%) participants, followed by adherence exclusively to the PUFA (178 [7.6%]) and MUFA (5 [0.2%]) recommendations. There was no association between the number of comorbidities and adherence to nutritional recommendations (p = 0.269). Participants from the Brazilian Northeast region showed a higher proportion of adherence to SFA consumption recommendations (38.42%) and lower adherence to PUFA intake (3.52%) (p <0.001) compared to other regions. Conclusions: Among the evaluated sample, there was low adherence to nutritional recommendations for dietary fatty acid consumption.
