Abstract This study aimed to analyze students’ and graduates’ perceptions regarding the use of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) in nurse education. This is a qualitative study that employs the comprehensive and interpretative approach proposed by Dialectical Hermeneutics. Four focus groups were conducted with the participation of 17 students and 16 graduates from a higher education institution that implements PBL in nurse education. The analysis of results allowed for the identification of five thematic categories: difficulty in adapting to the method; attainment of autonomy in one’s own learning; encouragement of clinical reasoning development; enhancement of communication and interpersonal relationships; and integration between theory and practice. It is evident that the use of PBL promotes alignment with the propositions of curriculum guidelines for nurse education by fostering the development of skills and competencies such as autonomy, communication, interpersonal relationships, and clinical reasoning through comprehensive and contextualized practices. However, students encounter challenges with the changes observed when introduced to PBL, which are overcome during the implementation process. Resumo Objetivou-se analisar a percepção de estudantes e egressos sobre a utilização da Aprendizagem Baseada em Problemas (ABP) na formação do enfermeiro. Trata-se de um estudo qualitativo que utiliza a modalidade compreensiva e interpretativa proposta pela Hermenêutica-Dialética. Realizaram-se quatro grupos focais com a participação de 17 estudantes e 16 egressos de uma instituição de ensino superior que aplica a ABP na formação de enfermeiros. A análise dos resultados permitiu a definição de cinco categorias temáticas: dificuldade de adaptação em relação ao método; conquista de autonomia sobre o próprio aprendizado; incentivo ao desenvolvimento do raciocínio clínico; aprimoramento da comunicação e das relações interpessoais e integração entre teoria e prática. Evidencia-se que a utilização da ABP favorece a aproximação com as proposições das diretrizes curriculares para a formação do enfermeiro por meio do desenvolvimento de habilidades e competências como autonomia, comunicação, relações interpessoais e raciocínio clínico mediante práticas integrais e contextualizadas. Entretanto, os estudantes enfrentam dificuldades com as mudanças observadas ao serem inseridos nela ABP, as quais são superadas no decorrer do processo de implementação. ABSTRACT Objective Currently programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1) inhibitors in combination with other therapies are being evaluated to determine their efficacy in cancer treatment. However, the effect of PD-ligand (L) 1 expression on disease outcomes in stage III (EC III) non-small cell lung cancer is not completely understood. Therefore, this study aimed to assess the influence of PD-L1 expression on the outcomes of EC III non-small cell lung cancer. Methods This study was conducted on patients diagnosed with EC III non-small cell lung cancer who underwent treatment at a tertiary care hospital. PD-L1 expression was determined using immunohistochemical staining, all patients expressed PD-L1. Survival was estimated using the Kaplan-Meier method. Relationships between variables were assessed using Cox proportional regression models. Results A total of 49 patients (median age=69 years) with EC III non-small cell lung cancer and PD-L1 expression were evaluated. More than half of the patients were men, and most were regular smokers. The patients were treated with neoadjuvant chemotherapy, surgery, or sequential or combined chemotherapy and radiotherapy. The median progression-free survival of the entire cohort was 14.2 months, and the median overall survival was 20 months. There was no significant association between PD-L1 expression and disease progression, clinical characteristics, or overall survival. Conclusions PD-L1 expression was not correlated with EC III non-small cell lung cancer outcomes. Whether these findings differ from the association with immune checkpoint inhibitors remains to be addressed in future studies. ABSTRACT Rationale: Evidence about long-term sequelae after hospitalization for acute respiratory distress syndrome due to COVID-19 is still scarce. Purpose: To evaluate changes in pulmonary, cardiac, and renal function and in quality of life after hospitalization for acute respiratory distress syndrome secondary to COVID-19. Methods: This will be a multicenter case–control study of 220 participants. Eligible are patients who are hospitalized for acute respiratory distress syndrome due to COVID-19. In the control group, individuals with no history of hospitalization in the last 12 months or long-term symptoms of COVID-19 will be selected. All individuals will be subjected to pulmonary spirometry with a carbon monoxide diffusion test, chest tomography, cardiac and renal magnetic resonance imaging with gadolinium, ergospirometry, serum and urinary creatinine, total protein, and urinary microalbuminuria, in addition to quality-of-life questionnaires. Patients will be evaluated 12 months after hospital discharge, and controls will be evaluated within 90 days of inclusion in the study. For all the statistical analyses, p < 0.05 is the threshold for significance. Results: The primary outcome of the study will be the pulmonary diffusing capacity for carbon monoxide measured after 12 months. The other parameters of pulmonary, cardiac, and renal function and quality of life are secondary outcomes. RESUMO Fundamento: As evidências acerca das sequelas a longo prazo após internação por síndrome do desconforto respiratório agudo por COVID-19 ainda são escassas. Objetivo: Avaliar alterações nas funções pulmonar, cardíaca e renal e na qualidade de vida após internação por síndrome do desconforto respiratório agudo secundária à COVID-19. Métodos: Trata-se de estudo multicêntrico, caso-controle, incluindo 220 participantes. Os casos serão definidos como pacientes hospitalizados por síndrome do desconforto respiratório agudo devido à COVID-19. No Grupo Controle, serão selecionados indivíduos sem histórico de hospitalização nos últimos 12 meses ou sintomas a longo prazo de COVID-19. Todos os indivíduos serão submetidos à espirometria pulmonar com teste de difusão pelo monóxido de carbono, tomografia de tórax, ressonância magnética cardíaca e renal com gadolínio, ergoespirometria, creatinina sérica e urinária, proteínas totais e microalbuminúria urinária, além de questionários de qualidade de vida. Os casos serão avaliados 12 meses após a alta hospitalar e os controles, 90 dias após a inclusão no estudo. Para todas as análises estatísticas, será assumido como significativo o valor p < 0,05. Abstract Neospora caninum is a major cause of reproductive loss in cattle worldwide as it leads to abortion and animal repositioning. Although Toxoplasma gondii does not cause a reproductive problem in cattle, consuming raw or uncooked beef poses the risk of transmission. This study aimed to evaluate the occurrence of anti-N. caninum and anti-T. gondii antibodies in dairy cattle in the West and Northwest regions of São Paulo State, Brazil. A total of 653 serum samples from dairy cows were analyzed using an indirect immunofluorescence assay (IFA). Epidemiological data from the farms were associated with the serological results of the animals by logistic regression based on the presence of antibodies. The frequencies of the antibodies against N. caninum and T. gondii were 41.6% (272/653) and 11.5% (75/653), respectively. A statistically significant association was observed between: the serum anti-N. caninum antibodies and breed, history of food supplementation for calves, introduction of outside animals that later presented reproductive problems, and history of reproductive problems by the trimester of gestation. Resumo Neospora caninum é uma das principais causas de perda reprodutiva em bovinos em todo o mundo, pois leva ao aborto e ao reposicionamento animal. Embora o Toxoplasma gondii não cause problemas reprodutivos em bovinos, o consumo de carne bovina crua ou não cozida apresenta risco de transmissão. Este estudo teve como objetivo avaliar a ocorrência de anticorpos anti-N. caninum e anti-T. gondii em bovinos leiteiros nas regiões Oeste e Noroeste do Estado de São Paulo, Brasil. Um total de 653 amostras de soro de bovinos leiteiros, foi analisado utilizando-se o ensaio de imunofluorescência indireta (IFI). Os dados epidemiológicos das propriedades foram associados aos resultados sorológicos dos animais por meio de regressão logística. As frequências dos anticorpos contra N. caninum e T. gondii foram 41,6% (272/653) e 11,5% (75/653), respectivamente. Foi observada associação estatisticamente significativa entre: soropositividade para N. caninum e raça, histórico de suplementação alimentar para bezerros, introdução de animais externos que, posteriormente, apresentaram problemas reprodutivos e histórico de problemas reprodutivos no segundo trimestre de gestação. Abstract Sjogren’s disease (SjD) is an autoimmune disease that is characterized not only by the sicca symptoms it causes but also by its systemic nature, which is capable of several and not yet fully understood extraglandular manifestations. To gain a clearer understanding of these manifestations as well as a better practical approach, a panel of experts from the Brazilian Society of Rheumatology conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis on the identification of epidemiologic and clinical features of the extraglandular manifestations present in ESSDAI (EULAR Sjogren´s syndrome disease activity index), followed by a voting panel with recommendations for clinical practice. This publication is complementary to others already published and covers cutaneous and hematological manifestations, with prevalence data generated by a meta-analysis of 13 clinical or laboratory manifestations and 6 clinical management recommendations. ABSTRACT Objective: to analyze how Primary Health Care professionals experience domestic violence against women. Method: qualitative research, conducted from January to June 2023, through interviews with 20 Primary Health Care professionals, in a medium-sized municipality in the state of São Paulo, Brazil. The data obtained were interpreted using the Content Analysis Technique, thematic modality. Results: professionals emphasize the need for a sensitive approach and early identification, expressing feelings of perplexity and powerlessness during care. The impacts of violence are perceived by the victims, families, and society, causing physical, psychological, and social consequences. Challenges include lack of training, fear of reprisals, and lack of institutional support. The limitations faced by women in confronting violence are linked to lack of information, financial and emotional dependence, generating fear and insecurity. Conclusion: professionals experience the complexity of providing health care to women who are victims of domestic violence, and it is inferred that investments in professional training, institutional protection, and the creation of spaces that can support women are necessary to prevent re-victimization. RESUMO Objetivo: analisar como os profissionais da Atenção Primária à Saúde vivenciam a violência doméstica contra as mulheres. Método: pesquisa Qualitativa, desenvolvida no período de janeiro a junho de 2023, por meio de entrevistas com 20 profissionais da Atenção Primária à Saúde, em um Município de Médio Porte do Interior Paulista. Os dados obtidos foram interpretados pela Técnica de Análise de Conteúdo, modalidade temática. Resultados: os profissionais enfatizam a necessidade de abordagem sensível e identificação precoce, expressando sentimentos de perplexidade e impotência durante o atendimento. Os impactos da violência são percebidos pelas vítimas, famílias e sociedade, causando consequências físicas, psicológicas e sociais. Os desafios incluem falta de capacitação, medo de represálias e carência de apoio institucional. As limitações enfrentadas pelas mulheres no confronto com a violência estão ligadas à falta de informação, dependência financeira e emocional, gerando medo e insegurança. Conclusão: os profissionais vivenciam a complexidade que representa o cuidado em saúde às mulheres vítimas de violência doméstica e, depreende-se que são necessários investimentos na capacitação dos profissionais, proteção institucional e criação de espaços, que possam acolher as mulheres, evitando assim a revitimização. RESUMEN Objetivo: analizar cómo los profesionales de Atención Primaria de Salud viven la violencia doméstica contra las mujeres. Método: investigación cualitativa, desarrollada de enero a junio de 2023, a través de entrevistas a 20 profesionales de la Atención Primaria de Salud, en un Municipio Mediano del interior de São Paulo. Los datos obtenidos fueron interpretados mediante la Técnica de Análisis de Contenido, modalidad temática. Resultados: los profesionales enfatizan la necesidad de abordaje sensible e identificación temprana, expresando sentimientos de perplejidad e impotencia durante la prestación de cuidados. Los impactos de la violencia son percibidos por las víctimas, los familiares y la sociedad y provocan consecuencias físicas, psicológicas y sociales. Los desafíos incluyen la falta de capacitación, el miedo a represalias y la falta de apoyo institucional. Las limitaciones que afrontan las mujeres quando se enfrentan con la violencia están vinculadas a la falta de información y a la dependencia financiera y emocional, lo que genera miedo e inseguridad. Conclusión: los profesionales experimentan la complejidad que representa la atención de la salud para las mujeres víctimas de violencia doméstica advirtiéndose la necesidad de inversiones en formación profesional, protección institucional y creación de espacios que puedan acoger a las mujeres y evitar la revictimización. ABSTRACT Objective: To understand the strengths and weaknesses of the families of women in situations of violence who have had their emergency protective measures revoked. Method: descriptive research based on the Calgary Family Assessment Model, in the context of a Women’s Police Station in a municipality in the interior of São Paulo, Brazil, carried out between September and November 2021, with four families of women who revoked the protective measure. Family structure, development, and functionality data were collected and analyzed according to the Calgary Model. Results: the families have similarities that include socio-economic aspects, low schooling, alcohol use, conflicting family relationships, and transgenerational relationships that, due to their fragility, perpetuate the cycle of violence. However, the social benefits, religious support, and family members were strengths. Conclusion: The Calgary Family Assessment Model guides nurses in proposing care plans consistent with domestic violence’s complexities. RESUMO Objetivo: compreender as fortalezas e fragilidades das famílias de mulheres em situação de violência que revogaram a medida protetiva de urgência. Método: pesquisa descritiva pautada no Modelo Calgary de Avaliação Familiar, no contexto de uma Delegacia da Mulher em um município do interior de São Paulo, Brasil, realizada entre os meses de setembro e novembro de 2021, com quatro famílias de mulheres que revogaram a medida protetiva. A coleta e análise de dados sobre a estrutura, o desenvolvimento e a funcionalidade familiar foram conduzidos segundo o Modelo Calgary. Resultados: as famílias apresentam similaridades que abrangem aspectos socioeconômicos, baixa escolaridade, uso de álcool, relações familiares conflituosas e transgeracionais que, por suas fragilidades, perpetuam o ciclo de violência. Entretanto, os benefícios sociais, o aporte religioso e de familiares se apresentaram como fortalezas. Conclusão: o Modelo Calgary de Avaliação Familiar proporciona direcionamento à enfermagem para propor planos de cuidados consoantes às complexidades da violência doméstica. RESUMEN Objetivo: Conocer los puntos fuertes y débiles de las familias de las mujeres en situación de violencia a las que se les ha revocado la medida de protección de urgencia. Método: investigación descriptiva basada en el Modelo de Evaluación Familiar de Calgary, en el contexto de una Comisaría de la Mujer de un municipio del interior de São Paulo, Brasil, realizada entre septiembre y noviembre de 2021, con cuatro familias de mujeres a las que se les revocó la medida de protección. Los datos sobre la estructura, el desarrollo y la funcionalidad de la familia se recopilaron y analizaron utilizando el Modelo de Calgary. Resultados: las familias presentan similitudes que incluyen aspectos socioeconómicos, baja escolarización, consumo de alcohol, relaciones familiares conflictivas y relaciones transgeneracionales que, debido a su fragilidad, perpetúan el ciclo de la violencia. Sin embargo, los beneficios sociales, el apoyo religioso y el apoyo de los miembros de la familia fueron puntos fuertes. Conclusión: El modelo de evaluación familiar de Calgary proporciona una guía para que las enfermeras propongan planes de cuidados acordes con las complejidades de la violencia doméstica. Abstract The hematological parameters of fish contribute to the understanding of the health status in response to diseases, treatments, handling, and environmental factors. This study aimed to verify the hematological parameters of mullet Mugil liza after one-hour immersion baths in five concentrations of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), an effective chemical treatment for several diseases in fish. A total of 108 fish (35.25 ± 6.09g) was distributed into six treatments with three replicates each: untreated fish (control), and fish treated with five concentrations of H2O2 (150, 200, 250, 300 and 350 mg L-1). Blood collection was performed immediately after bathing and 30 days after. Erythrogram, leukogram, thrombocytogram, hematocrit, plasma glucose, hemoglobin concentration and hematimetric indexes were analyzed. There was no significant difference in the erythrocyte and total leukocyte counts. Regarding plasma glucose and hematimetric indexes, the values were increased (p<0.05), except for mean corpuscular volume (MCV), that was decreased (p<0.05) after bath, including control. These responses may be associated to stress from handling and bathing procedure. In fish treated with H2O2, the number of thrombocytes and lymphocytes was lower (p<0.05) immediately after bath, while neutrophils and monocytes showed increased (p<0.05) values immediately after bath, which indicates adverse effects due to H2O2; however, these effects seem to be reversible after 30 days of recovery. ABSTRACT Objective: This study investigated the acute effects of cocoa flavanol (CF) supplementation on glucose homeostasis, aerobic performance, and lactate concentration in rats with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM), type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), and normoglycemia (NORM). Materials and methods: The study included 28 male Wistar rats (220-290 g). Induction of T1DM (n = 8) was achieved through intraperitoneal injection of streptozotocin, while T2DM (n = 10) was induced using an ad libitum high-fat diet combined with a fructose-rich beverage. The rats in the NORM group (n = 10) received a standard diet for 30 days. Two experiments were conducted: (1) T1DM rats performed two successive 30-minute treadmill runs below the anaerobic threshold and (2) T2DM and NORM rats underwent two incremental maximal treadmill running tests, both after CF or placebo supplementation. Blood glucose concentrations were measured from pre-exercise to 60 minutes post-exercise. Results: Glycemic reduction at 60 minutes post-exercise was significantly potentiated by CF compared with placebo supplementation in T1DM, T2DM, and normoglycemic rats (p < 0.05 for all). In T2DM rats, CF induced a glycemic response comparable to the NORM placebo-supplemented condition. These effects of CF persisted despite variations in aerobic performance or lactate concentration after incremental exercise. Conclusion: Supplementation with CF prior to physical exercise elicited a pronounced post-aerobic exercise glycemic reduction. Aim To determine new energy parameters in micro-CT to allow appropriate segmentation of dental cementum from the surrounding structures. Methods For this pilot study, 11 single-rooted premolar teeth of young subjects aged 12 to 21 were selected. The teeth were scanned using high-energy microtomography (SkyScan 1173, Bruker) with varying acquisition energies (60, 70, and 80 kV). Each tooth was scanned three times. The images were reconstructed and analyzed by calculating the volume (mm3) of dental cementum in the cervical, middle, and apical root thirds among the different scanned stacks. The mean cementum volume in the root thirds was obtained, and correlated with the patient’s age, using Pearson’s correlation. Results The mean age of the patients in the sample was 16,73 years. For the 60kV energy, the cementum volumes were 1.01 mm3, 1.00 mm3, and 0.58 mm3, for the cervical, middle, and apical thirds, respectively. For 70kV, it was 1.08 mm3, 1.20 mm3, and 0.71 mm3 for the respective thirds. And for 80kV,0.55 mm3, 0.91 mm3, and 0.67 mm3 for the respective thirds. Conclusion An acquisition energy of 70kV resulted in the best segmentation and reproducibility of the results. Resumo A população em situação de rua cresce constantemente, sendo composta por uma grande diversidade de pessoas que estão diariamente expostas às diversas formas de violência, são privadas de direitos fundamentais, não possuem privacidade, têm condições precárias de sono, alimentação e higiene, a maioria faz uso abusivo de álcool e outras drogas. Objetivo: Interpretar como é desenvolvido o cuidado ofertado à população em situação de rua frente ao uso abusivo de álcool e outras drogas. Método: estudo qualitativo, realizado no período de outubro de 2021 a fevereiro de 2022, a partir de 20 entrevistas com profissionais de diferentes serviços da rede de atenção à saúde e de assistência e desenvolvimento social de um interior paulista, por meio da análise temática, utilizando-se da ferramenta NVivo. Resultados: foram identificados os temas: a situação de viver na rua favorece o uso de álcool e outras drogas; incipiente efetivação da Rede de Atenção Psicossocial (RAPS); incipiente efetivação da Política de Redução de Danos e Influência do terceiro setor no cuidado à PSR. Considerações Finais: Evidenciam-se limites para a promoção do cuidado na perspectiva da atenção psicossocial, sendo que para avançar é necessário dar voz e considerar as especificidades da PSR, compreender suas concepções do processo de saúde-doença e suas trajetórias.

Abstract The Homeless people is constantly growing, being made up of a wide range of people who are daily exposed to different forms of violence, are deprived of fundamental rights, lack privacy, have precarious conditions of sleep, food and hygiene. Objective: To understand/interpret how the care offered to the homeless population is developed in relation to the abusive use of alcohol and other drugs. Method: qualitative study, carried out from October 2021 to February 2022, based on 20 interviews with professionals from different services in the health care and assistance and social development network in an interior of São Paulo, through thematic analysis, using the NVivo tool. Results: the themes were identified: the situation of living on the street favors the use of alcohol and other drugs; care proposals centered on abstinence; hospitalization and medicalization weaken the continuity of care; incipient implementation of the Policy of Harm Reduction and Influence of the third sector in the care of PSR. Conclusions: Limits are evident for the promotion of care from the perspective of psychosocial care, and to advance it is necessary to give voice and consider the specificities of HP, understand its conceptions of the health-disease process and its trajectories.

AIM: to describe the methodology used in the study, the sample and the prevalence of symptoms in the acute phase of the infection according to socioeconomic variables. METHODS: cross-sectional study carried out in Rio Grande with individuals infected with covid-19 from December 2020 to March 2021. Nineteen symptoms present during the acute phase of the infection were investigated and analyzed, separately and in categories of “0-4”, “5-9” and “10 or more”, according to gender, age and economic class. RESULTS: 2,919 people were part of the sample. The most prevalent symptoms were fatigue (73.7%), headache (67.2%), loss of taste (65.9%), loss of smell (63.9%) and muscle pain (62.3% ). Regarding the occurrence of symptoms stratified by gender, all symptoms, except productive cough, were statistically higher in females. Regarding age, it was found that headache, pain/discomfort to breathe, loss of taste, loss of smell, fatigue, sore throat, nasal congestion, diarrhea, joint pain and muscle pain were statistically higher among adults (18 -59 years). As for economic class, the prevalence of symptoms of shortness of breath, pain/discomfort in breathing, alteration in sensitivity and joint pain showed a linear increase with the reduction in economic class. CONCLUSION: the results of this study made it possible to identify the most frequent symptoms in the acute phase of covid-19 and their distribution in groups, providing data for the implementation of public policies by managers and support for health professionals in assisting this population.

OBJETIVO: descrever a metodologia utilizada no estudo, a amostra e a prevalência dos sintomas da fase aguda da infecção de acordo com variáveis socioeconômicas. MÉTODOS: estudo transversal realizado em Rio Grande com indivíduos infectados pela covid-19 no período de dezembro de 2020 a março de 2021. Foram investigados 19 sintomas presentes durante a fase aguda da infecção e analisados, em separado e em categorias de “0-4”, “5-9” e “10 ou mais”, de acordo com sexo, idade e classe econômica. RESULTADOS: 2.919 pessoas fizeram parte da amostra. Os sintomas mais prevalentes foram fadiga (73,7%), dor de cabeça (67,2%), perda de paladar (65,9%), perda de olfato (63,9%) e dores musculares (62,3%). Com relação a ocorrência de sintomas estratificado por sexo, todos os sintomas, exceto tosse produtiva, foram estatisticamente maiores no sexo feminino. Referente à idade, verificou-se que dor de cabeça, dor/desconforto para respirar, perda de paladar, perda de olfato, fadiga, dor de garganta, congestão nasal, diarreia, dores articulares e dores musculares foram estatisticamente maiores entre os adultos (18-59 anos). Quanto a classe econômica, a prevalência dos sintomas falta de ar, dor/desconforto para respirar, alteração de sensibilidade e dores articulares apresentaram aumento linear conforme a redução da classe econômica. CONCLUSÃO: os resultados deste estudo permitiram identificar os sintomas mais frequentes na fase aguda da covid-19 e sua distribuição nos grupos, fornecendo dados para implementação de políticas públicas pelos gestores e respaldo para os profissionais de saúde na assistência a essa população.

ABSTRACT Objective: To compare the agreement of images in white light (WL), fluorescence (FL), and digital radiographs (DR), on the diagnosis and treatment decisions for occlusal caries lesions against a micro-CT gold standard. Material and Methods: Ten extracted third molars, with enamel and/or dentin caries (ICDAS 2-4), were included. Occlusal surface images were acquired with an intraoral camera (SoproLife®) in WL and FL modes. DR was obtained using an intraoral X-ray and a semi-direct digital system. A total of 780 images were needed, organized in a template, to be later examined by twenty-six dentists invited to compose the study. The Generalized Estimation Equations model was used to compare the proportions of the correct answers between the three methods and the gold standard. When significant, Bonferroni post-hoc test was used to identify differences (α=5%). Results: Most of the examiners were specialists (76.9%) with 14.5 years of experience. All diagnostic methods were similar and showed low agreement (DR 12.7%, WL 16.5%, and FL 16.5%) compared with gold standard caries diagnostic scores. Regarding treatment decisions, mean agreement for all diagnostic methods was higher (43.2%; p<0.001), and among all methods, WL (48.1%) and FL (51.2%) modes performed better than DR (30.4%, p<0.001). RESUMO Os incêndios florestais, independentemente de suas causas, representam uma das maiores ameaças à biodiversidade nas unidades de conservação brasileiras. A coleta de dados sobre as causas, períodos e locais com maior ocorrência de incêndios possibilita a adoção de estratégias de prevenção mais eficazes. O objetivo deste estudo foi caracterizar os incêndios florestais nas unidades de conservação federais brasileiras de 2006 a 2012, contribuindo assim para aprimorar o conhecimento da dinâmica dos incêndios nessas áreas. Os dados foram obtidos a partir dos Registros de Ocorrência de Incêndio (ROIs) disponíveis no banco de dados do Sistema Nacional de Informações sobre Fogo (SISFOGO). O número total de registros encontrados foi de 2.259, dos quais 88,2% indicavam a causa do incêndio. Entre os registros com a causa indicada, 42,2% corresponderam à categoria “causa desconhecida”, 26,7% à queima para limpeza e 18,5% à incendiários, o que evidencia que a maioria dos incêndios com causa conhecida decorre da ação humana acidental ou intencional. Os incêndios florestais foram mais frequentes de julho a outubro, com uma média de 50,6 ocorrências por ano, influenciados pela distribuição anual da precipitação. Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro e Ceará foram os estados com maior número de registros, com 19,8%, 15,5% e 12,0%, respectivamente. ABSTRACT Forest fires, regardless of their causes, represent one of the greatest threats to biodiversity in Brazilian protected areas. Collecting data on the causes, periods, and sites with the highest occurrence of fires allows for the adoption of more effective prevention strategies. The aim of this study was to characterize forest fires in Brazilian federal protected areas from 2006 to 2012, thus contributing to improving the knowledge of the dynamics of fires in these areas. Data were obtained from Fire Occurrence Records (ROIs, in Portuguese) available in the National Fire Information System (SISFOGO, in Portuguese) database. The total number of records found was 2,259, of which 88.2% had reported causes. Among the records with a reported cause, 42.2% correspond to unknown causes, 26.7% to debris burning, and 18.5% to arson events, which shows that the majority of fires with a known cause are the result of accidental or intentional human action. Forest fires were more frequent from July to October, with a mean of 50.6 occurrences per year, influenced by the annual precipitation distribution. Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro and Ceará were the states with the highest number of records, with 19.8%, 15.5%, and 12.0%, respectively.
