Os genótipos Macaíba II e Natal I se destacaram quanto à relação SS/AT, flavonoides e antocianinas. Em contrapartida, o genótipo Macaíba III apresentou o maior teor de carotenoides e grande potencial bioativo. batatadoce batata doce vital vitaminas humana Assim pressupõese pressupõe físicoquímica físico química ambientais modo 202 Agronômica UAECA (UAECA UFRN RN Brasil BRS Beauregard IV CearáMirim Ceará Mirim colheita firmeza elasticidade pH, , (pH) AT, AT (AT) SS, SS (SS) SSAT SS/AT (SS/AT) totais físicoquímicas químicas CearáMirim, Mirim, contrapartida bioativo 20 (pH (AT (SS (SS/AT 2
ABSTRACT Sweet potato is a vital food root, rich in vitamins, minerals, and bioactive compounds. Genotypes that meet these nutritional demands are essential to combat nutrient deficiencies and promote human health. Thus, it presupposes the hypothesis that sweet potato genotypes differ in physicochemical quality and bioactive compounds when evaluated under the same environmental conditions. Thus, this study aims to evaluate the physicochemical quality and bioactive compounds in genotypes of orange-fleshed sweet potato. The experiment was conducted from April 2022 to August 2022 in the experimental area of Agronomic Engineering, located at the Academic Unit Specialized in Agricultural Sciences (UAECA) - UFRN, in Macaíba, RN, Brazil. The treatments were composed of eight genotypes, being two cultivars (BRS Amélia and Beauregard) and six accessions (Macaíba I, Macaíba II, Macaíba III, Macaíba IV, Ceará-Mirim, and Natal I) of orange-fleshed sweet potato from the UAECA teaching collection. After harvest, the following characteristics were evaluated: firmness, elasticity, hydrogen potential (pH), titratable acidity (TA), soluble solids (SS), ratio (SS/TA), Vitamin C, and the bioactive compounds: anthocyanins, flavonoids, and total carotenoids. The orange-fleshed sweet potato genotypes showed distinct characteristics for the physicochemical variables and the bioactive compounds. Due to increased pulp pH, anthocyanins were reduced in the Ceará-Mirim, Macaíba III, and Macaíba IV genotypes. The Macaíba II and Natal I genotypes stood out regarding the SS/TA ratio, flavonoids, and anthocyanins. In contrast, the Macaíba III genotype had the highest carotenoid content and great bioactive potential. root vitamins minerals health Thus conditions orangefleshed orange fleshed 202 Engineering (UAECA UFRN RN Brazil BRS Beauregard CearáMirim, CearáMirim Ceará Mirim, Mirim Ceará-Mirim collection harvest firmness elasticity pH , (pH) TA, TA (TA) SS, SS (SS) SS/TA, SSTA (SS/TA) C flavonoids carotenoids contrast 20 (pH (TA (SS (SS/TA 2

Abstract Objectives To survey, analyze and discuss the scientific evidence supporting the use of acupuncture and related techniques in the management of chronic pain in the pediatric population. Sources A survey of databases (MEDLINE, Scopus and Scielo) was carried out with search strategies, following the PRISMA statement, without limits on publication dates and languages. Clinical studies (clinical trials, single-arm, and case series) were accepted for review if they included participants aged up to 22 years. Study quality was assessed by MMAT, and the randomized clinical trial was analyzed under the STRICTA criteria. Summary of the findings 2369 articles were retrieved. After excluding repetitions, 1335 underwent the initial selection. Only 16 articles were selected for full reading, of which 5 were included in the review, being two case series, two single-arm studies, and one randomized clinical trial. The articles were considered of good quality by the adopted criteria. Conclusion The analyzed studies showed important clinical results such as the reduction of pain intensity, and improvement in school attendance and social life. However, there are many limitations in study design and sample size. Therefore, there is weak evidence to support the use of acupuncture in the context of pediatric chronic pain, but the positive results reinforce the need for further investigation of the topic with the conduct of larger and well-designed studies, to obtain more data and greater scientific conviction of the findings. population MEDLINE, MEDLINE (MEDLINE Scielo strategies statement languages trials singlearm, singlearm single arm, arm series 2 years MMAT criteria 236 retrieved repetitions 133 selection 1 reading intensity life However size Therefore welldesigned well designed 23 13

ABSTRACT Chronic kidney disease (CKD) represents one of today’s main public health problems. Serum creatinine measurement and estimation of the glomerular filtration rate (GFR) are the main tools for evaluating renal function. There are several equations to estimate GFR, and CKD-EPI equation (Chronic Kidney Disease – Epidemiology) is the most recommended one. There are still some controversies regarding serum creatinine measurement and GFR estimation, since several factors can interfere in this process. An important recent change was the removal of the correction for race from the equations for estimating GFR, which overestimated kidney function, and consequently delayed the implementation of treatments such as dialysis and kidney transplantation. In this consensus document from the Brazilian Societies of Nephrology and Clinical Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, the main concepts related to the assessment of renal function are reviewed, as well as possible existing controversies and recommendations for estimating GFR in clinical practice. Foram avaliados o pH, sólidos solúveis (SS), acidez titulável (AT), relação SS/AT, açúcares solúveis e os compostos bioativos - flavonoides, antocianinas e carotenoides. As doses de P influenciaram as cultivares de batata-doce. A dose de 120 kg ha-1 promoveu incrementos nos parâmetros pH, SS, AT e relação SS/AT para a cultivar BRS Cuia. A mesma dose promoveu incrementos nos açúcares solúveis totais para a cultivar BRS Amélia. A dose de 240 kg ha-1 promoveu maiores teores de flavonoides e antocianinas na cultivar Paraná, e houve aumento no teor de carotenoides na dose de 60 kg ha-1. batatadoce batata doce mundo genética mineral nutrientes produto Paraná Cuia pH SS , (SS) AT, (AT) SSAT batatadoce. doce. 12 ha1 ha 1 ha- 24 6 ha1. 1. ABSTRACT Sweet potato is among the most important food crops in the world. Due to its high genetic diversity, this species has cultivars that can respond in different ways depending on mineral fertilization. Among the nutrients, phosphorus is related to physiological and biochemical processes that can influence the final quality of the product. This study aimed to assess the influence of P doses on the quality and bioactive compounds of sweet potato cultivars - Paraná, BRS Amélia, and BRS Cuia. The pH, soluble solids (SS), titratable acidity (TA), SS/TA ratio, soluble sugars, and the bioactive compounds - flavonoids, anthocyanins, and carotenoids - were evaluated. The P doses influenced sweet potato cultivars. The dose of 120 kg ha-1 promoted increments in the parameters pH, SS, TA, and SS/TA ratio for the cultivar BRS Cuia. The same dose promoted an increase in total soluble sugars for the cultivar BRS Amélia. P dose of 240 kg ha-1 promoted higher levels of flavonoids and anthocyanins in the cultivar Paraná, and there was an increase in carotenoid content at the dose of 60 kg ha-1. world diversity fertilization nutrients product Paraná Amélia Cuia pH SS , (SS) TA (TA) SSTA evaluated 12 ha1 ha 1 ha- 24 6 ha1. 1. ABSTRACT: This study estimated the growth of body, carcass, primal cuts, edible offal, and feathers of Japanese quail reared in two thermal environments, receiving three nutritional plans, from one to 39 days of age. A total of 576 one-day-old female chicks (Coturnix japonica) with an average initial weight of 7.51±0.75g/bird were evaluated in a completely randomized design with a 3 × 2 factorial arrangement (three nutritional plans × two temperatures). The animals were housed in two climatic chambers, at 25 ºC and 35 ºC, using 12 replications with eight birds per experimental unit. Nutritional plans (NP) were as follows: NP1: one diet from 1-21days and another from 22-39 days; NP2: one diet from 1-14 days and another from 15-39 days; and NP3: a single diet from 1-39 days. The growth curves and growth rates of body, carcass, primal cuts, feathers, and edible offal were evaluated using the Gompertz mathematical model. Quail fed NP3 showed higher growth curves and rates for body, carcass, drumstick +thigh, and feather. There was an effect on maturity rate, which was lowest in quail housed at 35 ºC. Among the animals kept at 25 ºC, the group fed NP3 exhibited the highest growth rate and breast weight. The nutritional plan consisting of a single diet offered from 1 to 39 days, formulated based on the tables for Japanese and European quail, is the most suitable for estimating the growth curves (Gompertz model) of Japanese quail housed at 25 ºC or 35 ºC. ABSTRACT: This study evaluated the effect of the co-feeding (C) period on the growth and survival of larvae of the yo-yo loach Botia lohachata ornamental species during the weaning period from live food (LF) to inert food (IF). The breeders were subjected to induced spawning using crude pituitary homogenate. A total of 2,400 larvae were used with an average initial weight of 0.39 ± 0.09 mg and an average total length of 4.08 ± 0.21 mm, from a single breeding pair. The live food was newly hatched nauplii of Artemia franciscana, and the inert diet was a commercial ration with 55% crude protein and two particle sizes (142-350 µm and 350-500 µm). As the first food, all larvae received A. franciscana during the first six days, except for the fasting (NC) and inert food (IF) groups. The following co-feeding strategies were employed: C4 = 4 days of co-feeding, C8 = 8 days of co-feeding, C12 = 12 days of co-feeding, and LF = Artemia during the entire experimental period. The longest period with live food promoted better larval growth rates. The specific growth rate of larvae fed live food during the entire period (LF) was higher than that of the other groups, followed by the co-feeding strategies. There was no effect (P > 0.01) on larval survival in the LF, C12, C8, and C4 groups, which ranged from 41% to 53% after 30 days. Treatment R resulted in high mortality and low growth, suggesting that live food should be the first food source for B. lohachata larvae. ABSTRACT cofeeding co feeding C (C yoyo yo (LF IF. ABSTRACT OBJECTIVE The transgender population in Brazil faces marginalization and difficulties in accessing education and health, leading many individuals to self-medicate. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of the implementation of Specialized Centers in the Transsexualizing Process (SCTP) on the use of cross-sex hormone therapy (CSHT) without medical prescription, as well as the level of education and mental health profile of these individuals. METHODS This is a cross-sectional study with data from physical and electronic medical records between September 2017 and February 2023 regarding the use of CSHT before and after the implementation of two SCTP in the state of Bahia, Brazil, in addition to data on education level, previous diagnosis of anxiety and depression of patients. RESULTS A total of 219 participants, 127 transgender men (TM) and 92 transgender women and travestis (TrTW), were assessed. A significant reduction in the prevalence of self-medication was observed in both TrTW (92.98% before and 51.43% after, p<0.001), and TM (47.17% before and 25.67% after, p = 0.010) with the implementation of SCTP. Transgender individuals who used CSHT before accessing the service were found to have a lower prevalence of depression. Self-medication was not significantly associated with education or anxiety in our sample. CONCLUSION The results indicate the need for the expansion of SCTP, as they were associated with lower rates of self-medication in the transgender population.

ABSTRACT Water main bursts not only lead to financial losses, but also water losses. Climate change and water resources scarcity puts in perspective the need to understand the conditions of the water transportation infrastructure to prevent accidents. The objective of this work is to present resilience indices related to the operation of the water system and infrastructure operational limits to aid decision maker to evaluate risk. The resilience indexes were established based on four indexes arising from transient flows simulation: burst pressure, minimum transient pressure, maximum air volume and resultant forces. Decision making on a complex problem with many parameters based on a simple index is not straightforward, therefore we used a multicriteria decision technique to assist, the simplified three-scale Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP). To test the proposed method, a case study of a trunk main from the municipality of Franca, Brazil is presented. To calculate the indexes a hydraulic model with transient flows of the referred system was simulated. For the case study, a few scenarios were evaluated. The scenario where no protection devices are present is the most critical. losses accidents risk simulation pressure forces straightforward assist threescale three scale AHP. AHP . CONCLUSION The results indicate the need for the expansion of SCTP, as they were associated with lower rates of self-medication in the transgender population. selfmedicate. selfmedicate self medicate. medicate self-medicate (SCTP crosssex cross sex (CSHT prescription crosssectional sectional 201 202 Bahia patients 21 participants 12 (TM 9 TrTW, , (TrTW) assessed selfmedication medication 92.98% 9298 98 (92.98 5143 51 43 51.43 p<0.001, p0001 p<0.001 0 001 p<0.001) 47.17% 4717 47 17 (47.17 2567 25 67 25.67 0.010 0010 010 Selfmedication Self sample 20 2 1 (TrTW 92.98 929 (92.9 514 5 4 51.4 p000 p<0.00 00 47.17 471 (47.1 256 6 25.6 0.01 01 92.9 (92. 51. p00 p<0.0 47.1 (47. 25. 0.0 92. ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to examine the effect of the increasing levels of inclusion of palm kernel cake (PKC) in the diet on the performance of feedlot heifers. Forty-eight Nelore heifers with an initial weight of 274 ± 4.58 kg, at 24 months of age, were confined for 98 days in a feedlot. The animals were allocated to the four treatments in a completely randomized design. Treatments consisted of PKC levels of 0 (control), 10, 20, and 30% in the total dry matter of the diet. The roughage:concentrate ratio in the diets was 30:70. Ether extract intake increased, whereas the intakes of non-fiber carbohydrates and total digestible nutrients decreased with the inclusion of PKC. The apparent digestibility of all nutrients decreased, as well as the amounts of nitrogen digested and retained. Microbial protein synthesis and its efficiency also declined. The inclusion of up to 20% PKC increased feeding time and reduced rumination time of heifers. Intake and rumination efficiencies decreased with the inclusion of PKC in the diet. Final weight and average daily gain did not change, but feed efficiency increased with the inclusion of PKC. The inclusion of up to 30% PKC in the diet of feedlot heifers is recommended. ABSTRACT The limited temporal completeness and taxonomic accuracy of species lists, made available in a traditional manner in scientific publications, has always represented a problem. These lists are invariably limited to a few taxonomic groups and do not represent up-to-date knowledge of all species and classifications. In this context, the Brazilian megadiverse fauna is no exception, and the Catálogo Taxonômico da Fauna do Brasil (CTFB) (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/), made public in 2015, represents a database on biodiversity anchored on a list of valid and expertly recognized scientific names of animals in Brazil. The CTFB is updated in near real time by a team of more than 800 specialists. By January 1, 2024, the CTFB compiled 133,691 nominal species, with 125,138 that were considered valid. Most of the valid species were arthropods (82.3%, with more than 102,000 species) and chordates (7.69%, with over 11,000 species). These taxa were followed by a cluster composed of Mollusca (3,567 species), Platyhelminthes (2,292 species), Annelida (1,833 species), and Nematoda (1,447 species). All remaining groups had less than 1,000 species reported in Brazil, with Cnidaria (831 species), Porifera (628 species), Rotifera (606 species), and Bryozoa (520 species) representing those with more than 500 species. Analysis of the CTFB database can facilitate and direct efforts towards the discovery of new species in Brazil, but it is also fundamental in providing the best available list of valid nominal species to users, including those in science, health, conservation efforts, and any initiative involving animals. The importance of the CTFB is evidenced by the elevated number of citations in the scientific literature in diverse areas of biology, law, anthropology, education, forensic science, and veterinary science, among others. publications problem uptodate up date classifications context exception (CTFB http//fauna.jbrj.gov.br/, httpfaunajbrjgovbr http //fauna.jbrj.gov.br/ , jbrj gov br (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/) 2015 Brazil 80 specialists 1 2024 133691 133 691 133,69 125138 125 138 125,13 82.3%, 823 82 3 (82.3% 102000 102 000 102,00 7.69%, 769 7 69 (7.69% 11000 11 11,00 . 3,567 3567 567 (3,56 2,292 2292 2 292 (2,29 1,833 1833 833 (1,83 1,447 1447 447 (1,44 1000 1,00 831 (83 628 (62 606 (60 520 (52 50 users science health biology law anthropology education others http//fauna.jbrj.gov.br/ faunajbrjgovbr //fauna.jbrj.gov.br (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/ 201 8 202 13369 13 133,6 12513 12 125,1 82.3% (82.3 10200 10 00 102,0 7.69% 76 6 (7.69 1100 11,0 3,56 356 56 (3,5 2,29 229 29 (2,2 1,83 183 83 (1,8 1,44 144 44 (1,4 100 1,0 (8 62 (6 60 52 (5 5 http//fauna.jbrj.gov.br (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br 20 1336 133, 1251 125, 82.3 (82. 1020 0 102, 7.69 (7.6 110 11, 3,5 35 (3, 2,2 22 (2, 1,8 18 (1, 1,4 14 4 ( 82. Abstract Oviduct fluid extracellular vesicles (oEV) are essential for periconceptional events. The presence of EV has already been identified in the oviduct fluid (OF) from mammalian species, except in caprine. Therefore, this study aimed to isolate and characterize the caprine oEV (coEV). Initially, in Experiment 1, coEV were isolated from the OF of either each animal individually or from a pool of three animals. In experiment 2, coEV were isolated during the follicular or luteal phases of the estrous cycle. The coEV were characterized by size distribution, polydispersity index (PDI), and zeta potential using dynamic light scattering (DLS) analysis, as well as, by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and dot blotting (DB). Our results indicated that the physicochemical characteristics of the coEV were similar (P > 0.05), regardless of the isolation method (individual or pool). However, coEV collected during the luteal phase were larger (P < 0.05) than those during the follicular phase. The TEM showed spherical and cup-shaped particles, characteristic of exosomes. The DB revealed the presence of exosomal proteins involved in the biogenesis of coEV. In conclusion, it is possible to isolate and characterize coEV from a single caprine female and the estrous cycle phase influences the vesicles average size and PDI.
ABSTRACT Cashew trees are often cultivated in semi-arid regions with poor soil and limited rainfall, presenting significant challenges for soil management. This study aimed to evaluate soil fertility based on varying doses of bone meal (0, 250, 500, 750 and 1,000 g pit−1), mixed into the planting pit with or without moisture-retaining hydrogel (0 and 5 g pit−1), in dwarf cashew ‘BRS 226’ cultivation. The soil chemical attributes were monitored over two growing seasons. The bone meal application increased the soil pH by 221 % along the two years and boosted the organic matter by 13 % in the first year and 28 % in the second one. The use of 5 g of hydrogel per pit, combined with 1,000 g of bone meal per pit, is recommended to improve the soil fertility in semi-arid cashew-growing areas over a two-year period. The bone meal fertilization in cashew planting promotes beneficial changes in the soil, and the hydrogel has a great potential in cashew farming, offering an alternative for expanding the fruit production in regions with low rainfall and sandy soils. semiarid semi arid management 0, 0 250 500 75 1000 1 000 1,00 pit−1, pit1 pit−1 , pit−1) moistureretaining moisture retaining ( BRS 226 cultivation seasons 22 2 one cashewgrowing twoyear period farming soils 25 50 7 100 00 1,0 pit− 10 1,
