RESUMO: Objetivou-se com este trabalho estudar as características físico-químicas de frutos, biometria e superação da dormência de sementes de marula. Para a caracterização físico-química foram utilizados 200 frutos maduros. Realizou-se a biometria utilizando uma amostra aleatória de 400 sementes e foram avaliados: peso, comprimento, largura e espessura de frutos e sementes. Para o estudo da superação de dormência foram realizados dois experimentos com os tratamentos pré-germinativos constituídos pela imersão das sementes em ácido sulfúrico concentrado (96%) e água a temperatura de 65 ºC por cinco tempos (0, 15, 30, 45 e 60 minutos), sendo o tempo zero a testemunha, onde utilizou-se apenas água destilada, com quatro repetições de 25 sementes por tratamento. Os frutos de marula apresentaram valores médios de 21,65 ± 3,44 g, 35,5±2,38 e 34,8±2,73 mm de peso, diâmetro e comprimento, respectivamente e sólidos solúveis (SS), Potencial Hidrogeniônico ( pH), acidez titulável (AT) e ratio (AT/SS) foram de 14,74 ± 1,0 ºBrix, 3,93 ± 0,49 pH, 0,63 ± 0,22 e 27,07 ± 12,10 respectivamente. As sementes apresentaram valores médios de 3.576 ± 188,4 g para o peso de mil sementes. Para as dimensões, largura, comprimento e diâmetro de sementes, apresentaram valores médios de 22,9 ± 2,11; 23,7 ± 2,04; e 14,9 ± 2,09 mm respectivamente. A imersão das sementes procedentes de frutos recém colhidos em ácido sulfúrico por até 30 minutos e o armazenamento por seismeses promove incrementos na sua qualidade fisiológica. ABSTRACT: This study recorded the physicochemical properties of the marula fruits, the biometry and breaking the dormancy in the marula seeds. Using 200 ripe fruits, the physicochemical characterization was done. From a random sample of 400 seeds, an assessment of the biometrics was performed, and the weight, length, width and thickness of the fruits and seeds were evaluated. Two experiments were conducted to study dormancy breaking using pre-germination treatments, which included immersing the marula seeds five times (0, 15, 30, 45 and 60 minutes) in concentrated sulfuric acid (96%) and water, at 65 ºC temperature. The control was time zero, using plain distilled water, with 25 seeds per treatment and four replications. The marula fruits revealed average values of 21.65 ± 3.44 g, 35.5 ± 2.38 and 34.8 ± 2.73, respectively, for weight, diameter and length. The soluble solids (SS), Hydrogenonic Potential (pH), titratable acidity (AT) and ratio (AT/SS) were 14.74 ± 1.0º Brix, 3.93 ± 0.49 pH, 0.63 ± 0.22 and 27.07 ± 12.10, respectively. For the weight of one thousand seeds, the average value was 3.576 ± 188.4 g. The mean values for the dimensions of the width, length and diameter of the seeds were 22.9 ± 2.11; 23.7 ± 2.04; and 14.9 ± 2.09 mm, respectively. The physiological quality of these seeds was enhanced by immersing the seeds from freshly picked fruits in sulfuric acid for a maximum of 30 minutes and storing them for six months. ABSTRACT The COVID-19-19 pandemic's global impact has accelerated the need for effective vaccines, challenging traditional, time-consuming, and costly vaccinology methods. Immunoinformatics emerges as a promising alternative to expedite vaccine development, thus this study aims to provide a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of its application in formulating SARS-CoV-2 vaccine prototypes. Employing VOSviewer software and data from the Web of Science database, this study conducted a bibliometric analysis. Key metrics included the global distribution of scientific publications, the most productive countries and institutions, influential authors, co-citation and co-authorship networks, and prevalent keywords in immunoinformatics research related to SARS-CoV-2 vaccines. The analysis encompassed 138 scholarly articles, with India emerging as a pivotal contributor, particularly through notable contributions from Adamas and Fakir Mohan universities. The most cited article, authored by Bhattacharya, received 226 citations, while Doytchinova was a prominent cited source, referenced in 96 of the 138 analyzed documents. The study observed substantial collaborative efforts among authors from 45 nations, with 85% of the research concentrated in just six countries. Pakistan demonstrated the highest level of international collaboration, contributing to 15/20 collaborative publications. Keywords such as 'SARS-CoV-2', 'immunoinformatics', and 'prediction' were frequently encountered across most of these documents. This bibliometric analysis elucidates the primary research trends in the field and delineates the global scope and distribution of immunoinformatics studies in the realm of SARS-CoV-2 vaccine development. These findings offer a vital overview of the current landscape, guiding future research directions and potential collaborative efforts in the pursuit of effective COVID-19 vaccines.

RESUMEN El impacto global de la pandemia de COVID-19 ha acelerado la necesidad de vacunas efectivas, lo que ha desafiado los métodos tradicionales de vacunología que son costosos y consumen mucho tiempo. La inmunoinformática surge como una alternativa prometedora para acelerar el desarrollo de vacunas. Este estudio tuvo como objetivo proporcionar un análisis bibliométrico exhaustivo de su aplicación en la formulación de prototipos de vacunas contra el SARS-CoV-2. Utilizando el software VOSviewer y datos de la base de datos Web of Science, se realizó un análisis bibliométrico. Las métricas clave incluyeron: la distribución global de publicaciones científicas, los países e instituciones más productivos, autores influyentes, redes de cocitación y coautoría y palabras clave prevalentes en la investigación de inmunoinformática relacionada con las vacunas contra el SARS-CoV-2. El análisis abarcó 138 artículos académicos; la India emergió como un contribuyente principal, particularmente a través de contribuciones notables de las universidades Adamas y Fakir Mohan. El artículo más citado fue el de Bhattacharya, que recibió 226 citas; mientras que Doytchinova fue una fuente citada prominente, referenciada en 96 de los 138 documentos analizados. El estudio observó esfuerzos colaborativos sustanciales entre autores de 45 naciones con el 85 % de la investigación concentrada en seis países. Pakistán demostró el nivel más alto de colaboración internacional, al contribuir con 15 de los 20 artículos colaborativos. Palabras clave como 'SARS-CoV-2', 'immunoinformatics' y 'prediction' se encontraron frecuentemente en la mayoría de estos documentos. Este análisis bibliométrico aclara las principales tendencias de investigación en el campo y delinea el alcance global y la distribución de los estudios de inmunoinformática en el ámbito del desarrollo de vacunas contra el SARS-CoV-2. Los hallazgos ofrecen una visión vital del panorama actual, guían investigaciones futuras y posibles esfuerzos colaborativos en la búsqueda de vacunas efectivas contra la COVID-19.

Resumo Uma lista de peixes recentes e fósseis da Ordem Characiformes é apresentada e acredita-se que a lista esteja completa até 2022. Ao todo, 47 colaboradores verificaram e forneceram informações sobre táxons de sua especialidade. A lista está organizada em ordem alfabética por família e em seguida gênero e inclui todos os sinônimos disponíveis. De um total de 3.087 nomes de grupos de espécies e 527 nomes de grupos de gêneros, 2.334 espécies são atualmente tratadas como válidas e atribuídas a 301 gêneros e 24 famílias. Este total inclui 25 espécies fósseis, das quais 21 são incluídas em oito famílias recentes e quatro são Incertae sedis em Characiformes, mas não inclui cinco espécies baseadas em fósseis que foram incorretamente consideradas como Characiformes. O status de 79 espécies nominais permanece não resolvido. Quando há duas hipóteses concorrentes sobre a validade de um nome, uma delas é escolhida e a interpretação alternativa é fornecida na seção de comentários do nome em questão. Dados sobre distribuição geográfica são apresentados através de números que correspondem a regiões para as quais há registro de ocorrência da espécie. Abstract A checklist of recent and fossil fishes of the Order Characiformes is presented herein and believed to be complete through 2022. A total of 47 collaborators checked and provided information about their taxa of expertise. The list is arranged in alphabetical order by family and then genus and includes all available synonyms. From a total of 3,087 species group names and 527 genus group names, 2,334 species are currently treated as valid, and assigned to 301 genera and 24 families. This total includes 25 species known only from the fossil record, of which 21 are assigned to eight extant families and four are Incertae sedis in Characiformes, but does not include five species based on fossil which were wrongly treated in Characiformes. The status of 79 nominal species remains unresolved. When there are two competing hypotheses about the validity of a name, one of them is chosen and the alternate interpretation is provided in the remark section of that name. Distributional summaries are presented as numbers that correspond to areas for which there is a record of occurrence of the species. RESUMO: A utilização de práticas de manejo com cobertura do solo, uso de polímeros de absorção de água no solo e telas de sombreamento podem diminuir o consumo de água em sistemas irrigados, por proporcionarem proteção da planta e solo contra a presença de radiação e comprimentos de onda (luz) indesejados para o cultivo, no entanto essas tecnologias são pouco estudadas no cultivo de abacaxizeiro em regiões de clima semiárido. Assim, o trabalho foi realizado com o objetivo de avaliar o crescimento, produção e qualidade do abacaxizeiro em resposta a utilização de diferentes tipos de cobertura de solo, tela de sombreamento vermelha e polímeros de absorção água. Para isso, desenvolveu-se ensaio de campo composto por quatro coberturas de solo nas parcelas (mulching plástico; matéria orgânica; matéria orgânica + tela de sombreamento vermelha 50%; mulching plástico + tela de sombramento vermelha 50% e o controle (sem cobertura) com dois tratamentos nas subparcelas referentes a ausência e presença de polímero absorvedor de água colocado na cova de plantio (0,5 g por planta), dispostos em parcelas subdivididas, no delineamento experimental em blocos ao acaso, com três repetições. Foram avaliadas a porcentagem de plantas com florescimento natural; diâmetro do talo; índice de área foliar; área foliar de folha D e área foliar total; peso do fruto com coroa; peso do fruto sem coroa; comprimento do fruto com coroa; e comprimento do fruto sem coroa, bem como as características pós-colheita de frutos, sendo sólidos solúveis; acidez titulável; pH e relação sólidos solúveis/acidez titulável. Foram determinadas a produtividade em t ha-1 e eficiência do uso da água (EUA). O mulching plástico + tela de sombramento vermelha 50% apresentou-se mais favorável ao desenvolvimento vegetativo e produtividade das plantas de abacaxizeiro ‘IAC Fantátisco’. Os tratamentos não influenciaram nas características de qualidade pós-colheita de frutos. A tela de sombreamento proporcionou menores porcentagens de florescimento natural nos tratamentos matéria orgânica + tela de sombreamento vermelha 50% e mulching plástico + tela de sombreamento vermelha 50%. ABSTRACT: In irrigated systems, the adoption of management methods like soil cover, polymers which absorb the water present in the soil and the utilization of shading screens can decrease the water consumption by the plants. This is achieved as these means protect the plant and soil against radiation and wavelengths of light undesirable for cultivation. However, for pineapple cultivation in the semi-arid climate regions, very little study has been done regarding these technologies. Hence, the present study conducted to assess the pineapple growth, production and quality when various kinds of soil cover, red shading screen and water absorption polymers are employed. To accomplish this, a field trial was performed utilizing four types of soil cover in the plots (plastic mulching; organic matter; organic matter + red shading screen 50%; plastic mulching + red shading screen 50% and the control (no cover).Two treatments were included in the subplots namely, either the absence or presence of a water-absorbing polymer in the planting hole (0.5 g per plant), arranged in subdivided plots. We adopted the Randomized Complete Block (RCB) , with three replications. The following aspects of the plants were studied: naturally flowering, stem diameter; leaf area index; D-leaf area and total leaf area; fruit weight with crown; fruit weight without crown; fruit length with crown; and fruit length without crown, as well as the traits of the post-harvest fruit, soluble solids, titratable acidity, pH and the soluble solids/titratable acidity ratio. Further, the productivity in t ha-1 and efficiency of water use (EUA) were ascertained. It was evident that the plastic mulching + 50% red shading screen favored the vegetative development and productivity of the ‘IAC Fantástico’ pineapple plants. The characteristics of the quality of the postharvest fruit were unaffected by the treatments. The shading screen reduced the percentages of natural flowering in the treatments which included organic matter + red shading screen 50% and plastic mulching + red shading screen 50%. Resumo Objetivos: avaliar a associação entre aleitamento materno e Transtorno do Espectro do Autismo (TEA) em crianças e adolescentes. Métodos: trata-se de um estudo caso-controle realizado no norte de Minas Gerais, Brasil, que incluiu 248 crianças e adolescentes com diagnóstico de TEA (grupo caso) e 886 crianças e adolescentes sem diagnóstico de TEA (grupo controle). Foram realizadas entrevistas com as mães das crianças e adolescentes e utilizado um questionário semiestruturado para coleta dos dados. Para análise dos dados foi adotado modelo de regressão logística múltipla. A magnitude das associações foi estimada pela Odds Ratio (OR). Três modelos múltiplos foram ajustados: Modelo 1: presença ou ausência de aleitamento materno; Modelo 2: duração do aleitamento materno; Modelo 3: duração do aleitamento materno exclusivo. Resultados: o TEA foi associado à ausência de aleitamento materno nos três modelos ajustados: Modelo 1: OR=2,1, IC95%=1,1-4,1; Modelo 2: OR=2,3, IC95%=1,2-4,5; Modelo 3: OR=2,3, IC95%=1,2-4,5. Conclusões: os indivíduos com TEA tiveram maiores chances de não terem recebido aleitamento materno, no entanto, devido à natureza dos estudos de caso-controle, não se pode afirmar que o aleitamento materno previna o TEA. Abstract Objectives: to evaluate the association between breastfeeding and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in children and adolescents. Methods: this is a case-control study carried out in the north of the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil, which included 248 children and adolescents diagnosed with ASD (case group) and 886 children and adolescents without a diagnosis of ASD (control group).Interviews were conducted with the mothers of children and adolescents and a semi-structured questionnaire was used to collect data. For data analysis, a multiple logistic regression model was adopted. The magnitude of associations was estimated by the odds ratio (OR). Three multiple models were fitted: Model 1: presence or absence of breastfeeding; Model 2: duration of breastfeeding; Model 3: duration of exclusive breastfeeding. Results: ASD was associated with the absence of breastfeeding in the three adjusted models: Model 1: OR=2.1, CI95%=1.1-4.1; Model 2: OR=2.3, CI95%=1.2-4.5; Model 3: OR=2.3, CI95%=1.2-4.5. Conclusions: individuals with ASD were more likely to have not received breastfeeding, however, due to the nature of case control studies, it cannot be stated that breastfeeding prevents ASD. RESUMO Contexto: Nas últimas décadas, a ecoendoscopia evoluiu de uma ferramenta diagnóstica para uma plataforma para diversas intervenções terapêuticas. Vários avanços tecnológicos surgiram desde o último Consenso Brasileiro, demandando uma revisão e atualização das recomendações baseadas nas melhores evidências científicas. Métodos: Um grupo de 32 ecoendoscopistas renomados selecionou oito tópicos relevantes para serem discutidos a fim de gerar questões clínicas. Em seguida, foi realizada uma revisão da literatura para responder a essas perguntas com base nas evidências mais atualizadas. Resultados: Trinta e três tópicos foram formulados e votados pelos especialistas para alcançar um consenso. O Sistema de Oxford foi utilizado para classificar o nível de evidência. Conclusão: Há evidências moderadas para sustentar que a forma da agulha, calibre ou técnica de aspiração não influenciam no rendimento da amostragem tecidual guiada por ultrassom endoscópico (USE) de lesões sólidas pancreáticas. Há evidências moderadas para sustentar o uso da biópsia transcutânea guiada por USE da parede cística para diferenciar entre neoplasias císticas mucinosas e não mucinosas. Existem poucas evidências para apoiar o tratamento guiado por USE de varizes gástricas. ABSTRACT Background: In the past decades, endoscopic ultrasound has developed from a diagnostic tool to a platform for many therapeutic interventions. Various technological advancements have emerged since the last Brazilian Consensus, demanding a review and update of the recommendations based on the best scientific evidence. Methods: A group of 32 renowned echoendoscopists selected eight relevant topics to be discussed to generate clinical questions. After that, a literature review was conducted to answer these questions based on the most updated evidence. ABSTRACT. The aim of this study was to investigate the hair coat characteristics of sows raised in a free-range system in a tropical climate and assess associations with effective radiative properties and thermal conductivity. Bristles were collected from December 2017 to April 2018 and evaluated for diameter (mm), length (mm), and density (bristles per cm2). From these data, the effective thermal conductivity, absorptivity, transmissivity, and reflectivity of the hair coat were determined. Sows were separated into four groups according to skin pigmentation and color parameters. The environment was characterized with regard to average air temperature (°C), relative humidity (%), and shortwave radiation (W m-2). The data were analyzed by repeated measures analysis. Bristle length (33 mm) and density (10 bristles cm-2) were lower in summer than in colder months (48 mm and 20 bristles cm-2, respectively). Effective absorptivity was higher and transmittance was lower in more pigmented sows, demonstrating a connection with protection against solar radiation. Therefore, the combination of a pigmented and dense coat seems to be ideal for pigs reared in free-range systems. Resumo A marula (Sclerocarya birrea) pertencente à família Anacardiaceae, é originária do bioma das savanas da África do Sul e da região da África oriental. É uma das árvores nativas mais valorizadas do sul da África por possuir propriedades medicinais e nutricionais de grande valor, entretanto existe um entrave na sua produção que é a dormência das sementes. Assim, objetivou-se com este trabalho avaliar a influência do tempo de armazenamento na superação da dormência e na qualidade fisiológica de sementes de marula. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi o inteiramente casualizado, utilizando-se 400 sementes distribuídas aleatoriamente em 4 repetições de 100 sementes para analise biométrica. Para avaliação da qualidade fisiológica e superação da dormência das sementes os tratamentos consistiram em cinco períodos de armazenamento: 10 dias (testemunha); e 184; 244; 306; 367 e 428 dias após o colheita, com quatro repetições de 25 sementes por tratamento. Recomenda-se, o armazenamento das sementes de marula durante 367 dias após a colheita em condições ambientais (26±2 °C), por apresentarem melhor qualidade fisiológica.

Abstract Marula (Sclerocarya birrea) is a species of the family Anacardiaceae, native to the savanna biome in South and East Africa. It is among the most valued native trees of southern Africa due to its medicinal and nutritional properties; however, the dormancy of its seeds makes the production of marula difficult. Thus, the objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of storage times on dormancy breaking and physiological quality of marula seeds. A completely randomized experimental design was used, with four 100-seed replications for evaluating seed biometry. Physiological quality and dormancy breaking were evaluated through treatments consisted of five storage periods: 10 (control), 184, 244, 306, 367, and 428 days after harvest, with four 25-seed replications per treatment. Storing marula seeds under room conditions (26±2 °C) for 367 days after harvest is recommended for a better physiological quality of the seeds.

RESUMO A utilização de porta enxerto resistente e ou tolerante a nematoides é uma estratégia que tem tornado viável a manutenção dos cultivos de goiabeira nos perímetros irrigados do semiárido brasileiro. Assim, o objetivo foi avaliar a produção, trocas gasosas e qualidade dos frutos da goiabeira ‘Paluma’ com e sem o porta enxerto tolerante a nematoide sob diferentes lâminas de irrigação e épocas de produção no Semiárido Brasileiro. O delineamento experimental foi em blocos ao acaso, no esquema fatorial misto 2 × 4 × 2, sendo duas formas de cultivo da goiabeira ‘Paluma’ (sem e com o porta enxerto tolerante a nematoide), quatro lâminas de irrigação (60, 80, 100 e 120% da evapotranspiração da cultura - ETc) e duas épocas de produção, com quatro repetições. Foram realizadas avaliações fisiológicas das plantas, produção e qualidade pós-colheita. As trocas gasosas nas folhas da goiabeira ‘Paluma’ foram maiores no segundo ciclo de produção, quando irrigada com lâminas de irrigação acima de 100% da ETc, não diferindo com o uso do porta enxerto. ABSTRACT Using nematode-resistant and/or -tolerant rootstock is a strategy that has maintained guava cultivation feasible in the irrigated perimeters of the Brazilian semi-arid region. The objective was to evaluate the production, gas exchange, and fruit quality of ‘Paluma’ guava with and without nematode-tolerant rootstock under different irrigation depths and production periods. The experimental design was randomized blocks, in the mixed 2 × 4 × 2 factorial scheme, corresponding to two forms of cultivation of ‘Paluma’ guava (without and with nematode-tolerant rootstock), four irrigation depths (60, 80, 100, and 120% of crop evapotranspiration - ETc), and two production periods, with four replicates. Guava plants were evaluated for physiological, production and post-harvest quality parameters. Gas exchange in ‘Paluma’ guava leaves was higher in the second production cycle, under irrigation depths above 100% ETc, not differing with the use of the rootstock. Abstract This study aimed to evaluate the contribution of oral and maxillofacial pathology laboratories (OMPLs) in Brazilian public universities to the diagnosis of lip, oral cavity, and oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). A cross-sectional study was performed using biopsy records from a consortium of sixteen public OMPLs from all regions of Brazil (North, Northeast, Central-West, Southeast, and South). Clinical and demographic data of patients diagnosed with lip, oral cavity, and oropharyngeal SCC between 2010 and 2019 were collected from the patients’ histopathological records. Of the 120,010 oral and maxillofacial biopsies (2010-2019), 6.9% (8,321 cases) were diagnosed as lip (0.8%, 951 cases), oral cavity (4.9%, 5,971 cases), and oropharyngeal (1.2%, 1,399 cases) SCCs. Most cases were from Brazil’s Southeast (64.5%), where six of the OMPLs analyzed are located. The predominant profile of patients with lip and oral cavity SCC was Caucasian men, with a mean age over 60 years, low schooling level, and a previous history of heavy tobacco consumption. In the oropharyngeal group, the majority were non-Caucasian men, with a mean age under 60 years, had a low education level, and were former/current tobacco and alcohol users. According to data from the Brazilian National Cancer Institute, approximately 9.9% of the total lip, oral cavity, and oropharyngeal SCCs reported over the last decade in Brazil may have been diagnosed at the OMPLs included in the current study. Therefore, this data confirms the contribution of public OMPLs with respect to the important diagnostic support they provide to the oral healthcare services extended by the Brazilian Public Health System. Este estudo reportou C. hypselurus na cabeceira da bacia do rio das Cinzas, onde não havia registros prévios desta espécie, e empregou locos microssatélites e haplótipos mitocondriais em uma análise genética de populações. Um total de 57 espécimes foi analisado, incluindo 30 do rio das Cinzas, 25 da bacia do rio Itararé e dois da bacia do rio Tibagi. Os resultados indicaram baixos níveis de diversidade genética (HE = 0,334 e h = 0,246) para a amostra do rio das Cinzas, sugerindo reflexos de um efeito fundador após a espécie ter dispersado de uma bacia para a outra, possivelmente a partir de captura de cabeceiras. Uma vez que diferentes populações foram detectadas entre os rios das Cinzas e Itararé (DEST = 0,248, valor de P < 0,05) e que outros pontos de ocorrência ainda são desconhecidos na bacia do rio das Cinzas, os dados do presente estudo mostram grande relevância e deveriam ser considerados em futuras ações de manejo e conservação, bem como em estudos evolutivos de C. hypselurus. Abstract Cnesterodon hypselurus is a small fish that has a restricted distribution in southern Brazil, including headwaters of the Tibagi and Itararé river basins (Upper Paraná River). This study reported C. hypselurus in a headwater of Cinzas River basin, where there were no previous records of this species, and employed microsatellite loci and mitochondrial haplotypes in a population genetic analysis. A total of 57 specimens was analyzed, including 30 from Cinzas River basin, 25 from Itararé River basin and two from Tibagi River basin. Results indicated low genetic diversity levels (HE = 0.334 and h = 0.246) for the sample from Cinzas River, suggesting reflections of a founder effect after the species had dispersed from one watershed to another, possibly by headwater captures. ABSTRACT BACKGROUND: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) can damage cardiac tissue by increasing troponin levels and inducing arrhythmias, myocarditis, and acute coronary syndrome. OBJECTIVES: To analyze the impact of COVID-19 on cardiac autonomic control in mechanically ventilated intensive care unit (ICU) patients. DESIGN AND SETTING: This cross-sectional analytical study of ICU patients of both sexes receiving mechanical ventilation was conducted in a tertiary hospital. METHODS: Patients were divided into COVID-19-positive (COVID(+)) and COVID-19-negative (COVID(-)) groups. Clinical data were collected and heart rate variability (HRV) records obtained using a heart rate monitor. RESULTS: The study sample comprised 82 subjects: 36 (44%) in the COVID(-) group (58.3% female; median age, 64.5 years) and 46 (56%) in the COVID(+) group (39.1% females; median age, 57.5 years). The HRV indices were lower than the reference values. An intergroup comparison identified no statistically significant differences in the mean normal-to-normal (NN) interval, standard deviation of the NN interval, or root mean square of successive differences in NN intervals. The COVID(+) group had an increased low frequency (P = 0.05), reduced high frequency (P = 0.045), and increased low frequency/high frequency (LF/HF) ratio (P = 0.048). There was a weak positive correlation between LF/HF and length of stay in the COVID(+) group. CONCLUSION: Patients who received mechanical ventilation had lower overall HRV indices. COVID(+) patients who received mechanical ventilation had lower vagal HRV components. These findings likely indicate clinical applicability, as autonomic control impairments are associated with a greater risk of cardiac death. ABSTRACT Global consumption of oilseeds has been growing progressively in the last five growing seasons, in which soybean represents 60% of this sector. Thus, in order to maintain a high production in the region of Rio Verde, State of Goiás, against the phytopathological problems, this study aimed to define the best spectral range for the detection of H. glycines and P. brachyurus by linear regressions in soybean at R3 stage, as well as the elaboration of mathematical models through multiple linear regressions. For this, soil and root were sampled in the experimental area, as well as a flight was performed with the Sentera sensor. Data were used for the elaboration of regressions and for the validation of 2 mathematical models. Significant values were observed in simple linear regression only for cysts, in the visible range, with a good R² value for the Green, Red and 568 nm bands, to nonviable cysts. When working with the stepwise statistics, better results are found for H. glycines, which now has an R²(aj) of 0.7430 and P. brachyurus is then detected. From the mathematical model obtained with the multiple linear regression for non-viable cysts with an R²(aj) of 0.7430, it is possible to detect the spatial distribution of nematodes across the soybean field, in order to perform a localized management, optimizing the applications. Abstract Objective To evaluate clinical characteristics and outcomes of COVID-19 patients infected with HIV, and to compare with a paired sample without HIV infection. Methods This is a substudy of a Brazilian multicentric cohort that comprised two periods (2020 and 2021). Data was obtained through the retrospective review of medical records. Primary outcomes were admission to the intensive care unit, invasive mechanical ventilation, and death. Patients with HIV and controls were matched for age, sex, number of comorbidities, and hospital of origin using the technique of propensity score matching (up to 4:1). They were compared using the Chi-Square or Fisher's Exact tests for categorical variables and the Wilcoxon for numerical variables. Results Throughout the study, 17,101 COVID-19 patients were hospitalized, and 130 (0.76%) of those were infected with HIV. The median age was 54 (IQR: 43.0;64.0) years in 2020 and 53 (IQR: 46.0;63.5) years in 2021, with a predominance of females in both periods. People Living with HIV (PLHIV) and their controls showed similar prevalence for admission to the ICU and invasive mechanical ventilation requirement in the two periods, with no significant differences. In 2020, in-hospital mortality was higher in the PLHIV compared to the controls (27.9% vs. 17.7%; p = 0.049), but there was no difference in mortality between groups in 2021 (25.0% vs. 25.1%; p > 0.999). Conclusions Our results reiterate that PLHIV were at higher risk of COVID-19 mortality in the early stages of the pandemic, however, this finding did not sustain in 2021, when the mortality rate is similar to the control group. RESUMO RACIONAL: A incidência do câncer de esôfago é elevada em algumas regiões e o tratamento cirúrgico requer centros de referência com alto volume para viabilizar a cirurgia. OBJETIVOS: Avaliar os pacientes submetidos à esofagectomia minimamente invasiva, por toracoscopia na posição prona, para o tratamento do câncer de esôfago e conhecer a experiência adquirida ao longo do tempo em nosso serviço após a introdução desta técnica. MÉTODOS: De janeiro de 2012 a agosto de 2021, foram analisados retrospectivamente todos os pacientes submetidos à esofagectomia minimamente invasiva para câncer de esôfago. Para avaliar os fatores associados aos desfechos predefinidos de fístula, pneumonia e óbito intra-hospitalar, realizamos análises de regressão logística univariada e multivariada considerando a idade como fator importante. RESULTADOS: Foram estudados 66 pacientes, com idade média de 59,5 anos. O tipo histológico mais frequente foi carcinoma espinocelular (81,8%). A incidência de pneumonia pós-operatória e fístula foi de 38% e 33,3%, respectivamente. Oito pacientes morreram durante este período. A idade do paciente, os estágios T e N, o ano da realização do procedimento e o desenvolvimento de pneumonia pós-operatória foram fatores que influenciaram o óbito. Houve uma redução de 24% na chance de mortalidade, ano a ano, associada à curva de aprendizado do nosso serviço. CONCLUSÕES: O presente estudo mostrou a importância da experiência da equipe e da concentração do tratamento de pacientes com câncer de esôfago em centros de referência, possibilitando melhorar significativamente o resultado pós-operatório. ABSTRACT BACKGROUND: The incidence of esophageal cancer is high in some regions and the surgical treatment requires reference centers, with high volume, to make surgery feasible. AIMS: To evaluate patients undergoing minimally invasive esophagectomy by thoracoscopy in prone position for the treatment of esophageal cancer and to recognize the experience acquired over time in our service after the introduction of this technique. METHODS: From January 2012 to August 2021, all patients who underwent the minimally invasive esophagectomy for esophageal cancer were retrospectively analyzed. In order to assess the factors associated with the predefined outcomes as fistula, pneumonia, and intrahospital death, we performed univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses, accounting for age as an important factor. RESULTS: Sixty-six patients were studied, with mean age of 59.5 years. The main histological type was squamous cell carcinoma (81.8%). The incidence of postoperative pneumonia and fistula was 38% and 33.3%, respectively. Eight patients died during this period. The patient's age, T and N stages, the year the procedure was performed, and postoperative pneumonia development were factors that influenced postoperative death. There was a 24% reduction in the chance of mortality each year, associated with the learning curve of our service. CONCLUSIONS: The present study presented the importance of the team's experience and the concentration of the treatment of patients with esophageal cancer in reference centers, allowing to significantly improve the postoperative outcomes.
