ABSTRACT: The study of adaptability, stability, and productivity is essential for selecting and recommending superior genotypes. This fact is particularly the case for the introduction of common bean cultivars in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, whose production is negligible and does not meet the internal demand. Thus, this study estimated genetic parameters and selection gains and undertake a simultaneous selection for adaptability, stability, and productivity in black bean genotypes via mixed models. The investigation was carried out in three municipalities in the state of Rio de Janeiro during three crop years. The trials were set up in a randomized block design with 11 genotypes and three replications. High mean heritability (81%) and selection accuracy (90%), as well as good selection prospects, were observed. Gains between 1.03 and 9.49% were achieved for grain yield. Simultaneous selection was efficient, indicating two black bean lines (CNFP 15290 and CNFP 15361) as the most productive, adaptable, and stable. As such, these lines have the potential to be released as new black bean cultivars for the state of Rio de Janeiro. RESUMO: O estudo de adaptabilidade, estabilidade e produtividade é importante para selecionar e recomendar genótipos superiores. Esse fato é particularmente válido para a introdução de cultivares de feijão comum no Rio de Janeiro, Brasil, cuja produção é ínfima e não atende a demanda interna. Assim, este trabalho teve como objetivo estimar parâmetros genéticos e ganhos de seleção e realizar uma seleção simultânea para adaptabilidade, estabilidade e produtividade de genótipos de feijão preto através de modelos mistos. Introduction: Cholesteatoma, although relatively rare, presents significant challenges in clinical practice. Despite decades of research, its cause remains complex and elusive. Objective: This review aimed to summarize key findings on the epidemiology, pathophysiology, diagnosis and surgical management of cholesteatoma, highlighting current knowledge gaps and emerging trends in the field. Method: Narrative review carried out in the PubMed and Scielo databases. The search used the following keywords: “cholesteatoma, petros apex, minimally invasive surgical procedures”. The inclusion criteria comprised review articles, pre-clinical and clinical research published, written in Portuguese and English and available in complete text. The selected articles were analyzed based on the technologies covered, future perspectives, challenges, diseases mentioned and the central idea of the article. Result: 36 articles were included. Conclusion: Cholesteatoma is important in medical practice, despite being relatively uncommon in the general population. However, there are still doubts about its cause, but its diagnosis has been expanded through imaging tests in an attempt to reduce “second-look” operations and avoid them. Another field with constant growth is surgical treatment, since the complex anatomy requires that new techniques be managed to reduce injuries to important and vital structures in the region.

Introdução: O colesteatoma, embora relativamente raro, apresenta desafios significativos na prática clínica. Apesar de décadas de pesquisa, sua causa permanece complexa e evasiva. Objetivo: Esta revisão pretendeu resumir as principais descobertas sobre a epidemiologia, fisiopatologia, diagnóstico e manejo cirúrgico do colesteatoma, destacando lacunas de conhecimento atuais e tendências emergentes no campo. Método: Revisão narrativa realizada nas bases PubMed e Scielo. A busca utilizou as seguintes palavras-chave: “colesteatoma, ápice petros, procedimentos cirúrgicos minimamente invasivos” e suas versões ao inglês Os critérios de inclusão compreenderam artigos de revisão, pesquisas pré-clínicas e clínicas publicados, escritos em português e inglês e disponíveis em texto completo. Os artigos selecionados foram analisados com base nas tecnologias abordadas, perspectivas futuras, desafios, doenças referidas e ideia central do artigo. Resultado: Foram incluídos 36 artigos. Conclusão: O colesteatoma tem importância na prática médica, apesar de ser relativamente pouco frequente na população em geral. No entanto, ainda existem dúvidas sobre sua causa, mas seu diagnóstico tem sido ampliado atavés de exames de imagem na tentativa de redução das operações de “segundo-olhar”, evitando-as. Outro campo com crescimento constante é o tratamento cirúrgico, uma vez que a anatomia complexa exige que novas técnicas sejam manejadas para diminuir lesões de estruturas importantes e vitais da região.

ABSTRACT Potassium is one of the most important nutrients for the cotton plant, being an element that participates in many physiological functions. In addition, its adequate availability favors better production performance of the crop. Therefore, the objective of this study was to evaluate the agronomic components in naturally colored cotton cultivars fertilized with potassium doses in the Brazilian semiarid region. For this, two experiments were conducted at Rafael Fernandes Experimental Farm, located in the municipality of Mossoró, RN, from July to November 2019 and July to November 2021. The experimental design was randomized blocks, arranged in split plots, with four repetitions. Potassium doses (0, 60, 120, 180, and 240 kg ha-1 of K2O) were allocated in the plants; and four naturally colored cotton cultivars (BRS Rubi, BRS Safira, BRS Verde, and BRS Topázio) were allocated in the subplots. Colored cotton cultivars respond to potassium fertilization depending on the edaphoclimatic conditions to which they are exposed. BRS Topázio cultivar had higher lint cotton yield and fiber percentage in both growing seasons, highlighting its potential for the region. The dose of 240 kg ha-1 of K2O increased the yield of colored cotton, in second crop cultivation. RESUMO O potássio é um dos nutrientes mais importantes para o algodoeiro, sendo um elemento que participa de muitas funções fisiológicas na planta. Além disso, sua adequada disponibilidade favorece melhor desempenho produtivo à cultura. Logo, objetivou-se avaliar nesta pesquisa os componentes agronômicos em cultivares de algodão naturalmente colorido adubadas com doses de potássio no Semiárido brasileiro. Para isto, dois experimentos foram conduzidos na Fazenda Experimental Rafael Fernandes, localizada no município de Mossoró, RN, nos períodos de julho a novembro de 2019 e julho a novembro de 2021. O delineamento experimental foi o de blocos casualizados, arranjados em parcelas subdivididas, com quatro repetições. Abstract: The replacement of the Primary Care Information System (SIAB, 1998-2015), as of January 2016, by the new Health Information System for Primary Care (SISAB) determined new forms of collecting, processing, and using information, with a possible impact on the records of activities carried out in primary health care in Brazil. This study aimed to evaluate the implementation impact of the new information system on records of physicians’ and nurses’ patient care and home visits of community health workers (CHW) in Brazil from 2007 to 2019. To this end, a Bayesian structural time-series model approach was used, based on a diffuse state-space regression. From 2016 to 2019, 463.47 million physician care, 210.61 million nursing care, and 1.28 billion CHW visits were recorded. Following the trend recorded before the implementation, 598.86 million, 430.46 million, and 1.5 billion physician and nursing appointments and CHW visits would be expected, respectively. In relative terms, there was a decrease of 25% in physician care, 51% in nursing care, and 15% in CHW visits when compared to the value expected by the Bayesian method. The negative impact on the records of patient care and home visits identified in this study, whether due to difficulties in adapting to the new system or a reduction in improper records, must be investigated so that the challenge of improving the primary care information system can be understood and overcome in a planned way. Resumo: A substituição do Sistema de Informação da Atenção Básica (SIAB, 1998-2015), a partir de janeiro de 2016, pelo novo Sistema de Informação em Saúde para a Atenção Básica (SISAB) determinou novas formas de coleta, processamento e uso das informações, com possível impacto nos registros das atividades desenvolvidas na atenção primária à saúde no Brasil. O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar o impacto da implantação do novo sistema de informação sobre registros de atendimentos de médicos e enfermeiros, e de visitas domiciliares de agentes comunitários de saúde (ACS) brasileiros entre 2007 e 2019. Para tal, utilizou-se uma abordagem bayesiana de modelo estrutural para séries temporais, com base em uma regressão difusa de espaço-estado. Ao longo do período de 2016 a 2019, foram registrados 463,47 milhões de atendimentos médicos, 210,61 milhões de atendimentos de enfermagem e 1,28 bilhão de visitas de ACS. El objetivo de este estudio fue evaluar el impacto de la implantación del nuevo sistema de información sobre los registros de atención de médicos y enfermeros y de visitas domiciliarias de agentes comunitarios de salud (ACS) en Brasil entre 2007 y 2019. ABSTRACT This study aimed to evaluate the in vitro gas production from three pearl millet cultivars submitted to four nitrogen levels. The treatments consisted of three pearl millet cultivars (ADR 500, ADR 7020, and LABH 70732) and four nitrogen levels (0, 50, 100, and 200 kg/ha), using urea as the nitrogen source. A 3 x 4 factorial experimental design, employing a randomized block setup, was used to assess both gas production and digestibility. No interaction was observed between nitrogen doses and fermentative parameters on in vitro gas production from the dry matter of pearl millet cultivars. Nitrogen had no impact on the dry matter content or chemical composition of the cultivars. Consistency prevailed in the chemical composition across the various cultivars, a trend that extended to the gas production rates for both soluble and insoluble contents. Notably, nitrogen fertilizer exerted an influence on the fermentation pattern of organic matter, gas production, and lag time for the cultivars. RESUMO Objetivou-se avaliar a produção “in vitro” de gás de três cultivares de milheto forrageiro sob adubação nitrogenada. Os tratamentos foram constituídos por três cultivares de milheto: (ADR 500, ADR 7020 e LABH 70732) e quatro doses de N(ureia) (0; 50; 100 e 200 kg/ha). Para as avaliações da produção de gases e digestibilidade o delineamento experimental foi blocos casualizados em esquema fatorial 3 x 4, com quatro repetições. Não houve interação entre as doses de adubação nitrogenada e os parâmetros fermentativos da produção de gases “in vitro” da matéria seca das cultivares de milheto. A adubação nitrogenada não influenciou os teores de matéria seca ou a composição bromatológica das cultivares. Não houve diferenças na composição bromatológica entre as cultivares. O mesmo foi observado para as taxas de produção de gás a partir do conteúdo solúvel e insolúvel. Abstract This article aimed to map therapeutic itineraries in health care within rural Quilombola communities in the north of Minas Gerais, Brazil. This is a section of a qualitative research conducted in six visited communities. The data was collected through 18 individual interviews, analyzed using the theoretical-methodological framework of Therapeutic Itineraries, and organized into three empirical themes. The narratives allowed for understanding the paths taken in health care by the Quilombola population, identifying the components of the popular subsystem (natural resources, the use of teas and home remedies), the family subsystem (transmission of knowledge and cultural heritage of care), and the professional subsystem (hospital level, medical care, primary and specialized attention). The difficulties of access are not only due to geographical distances, but also broader aspects of social determination, such as institutional racism, low availability of services, the need for payment for transportation and medical procedures. Resumo Este artigo teve como objetivo mapear os itinerários terapêuticos no cuidado em saúde em comunidades quilombolas rurais no norte de Minas Gerais, Brasil. Trata-se de um recorte de uma pesquisa qualitativa realizada em seis comunidades visitadas. Os dados foram produzidos por meio de 18 entrevistas individuais, analisados pelo referencial teórico-metodológico dos itinerários terapêuticos e organizados em três temas empíricos. As narrativas permitiram a compreensão dos percursos trilhados no cuidado em saúde pela população quilombola, a identificação dos componentes do subsistema popular (recursos naturais, o uso de chás e remédios caseiros), do subsistema familiar (transmissão de conhecimentos e herança cultural de cuidados), e do subsistema profissional (nível hospitalar, cuidados médicos, atenção primária e especializada). ABSTRACT Phosphorus (P) is a primordial mineral nutrient for plants, as it is directly linked to physiological and biochemical processes essential for plant maintenance, and can influence the production and final quality of the product. Furthermore, P favors good root development, which can benefit sweet potato crop. Thus, the objective of the work is to assess the influence of increasing doses of P on the production and physical quality of sweet potatoes in two growing seasons in a semi-arid environment. The experiments were carried out from April to August 2021 (season 1) and from December 2021 to April 2022 (season 2) at the Rafael Fernandes Experimental Farm - UFERSA, Mossoró, RN, BR. The design was randomized blocks, with four replications. The treatments consisted of five doses of P (0; 60; 120; 180 and 240 kg ha-1 of P2O5) via fertigation and tested on the sweet potato cultivar Paraná. RESUMO O fósforo (P) é um nutriente mineral primordial para as plantas, pois está diretamente ligado a processos fisiológicos e bioquímicos essenciais para a manutenção das plantas, podendo influenciar na produção e na qualidade final do produto. Além disso, o P favorece o bom desenvolvimento radicular, o que pode beneficiar a cultura da batata-doce. Assim, o objetivo do trabalho foi avaliar a influência de doses crescentes de P na produção e qualidade física da batata-doce em duas épocas de cultivo em ambiente semiárido. Os experimentos foram realizados de abril a agosto de 2021 (época 1) e de dezembro de 2021 a abril de 2022 (época 2) na Fazenda Experimental Rafael Fernandes - UFERSA, Mossoró, RN, BR. El objetivo de este estudio fue evaluar el impacto de la implantación del nuevo sistema de información sobre los registros de atención de médicos y enfermeros y de visitas domiciliarias de agentes comunitarios de salud (ACS) en Brasil entre 2007 y 2019. Para eso, se utilizó un enfoque bayesiano de modelo estructural para series temporales basadas en una regresión difusa de espacio de estado. Entre los años 2016 y 2019, se registraron 463,47 millones de consultas médicas, 210,61 millones de consultas de enfermería y 1,28 mil millones de visitas de ACS. Siguiendo la tendencia registrada antes de la implantación, se esperarían 598,86 millones, 430,46 millones y 1,5 mil millones de consultas médicas y de enfermería y visitas de ACS respectivamente. En términos relativos, hubo una disminución del 25% en las consultas médicas, del 51% en las consultas de enfermería y del 15% en las visitas de ACS en comparación con el valor esperado por el método bayesiano. El impacto negativo en el registro de consultas y visitas domiciliarias identificado en este estudio, ya sea por dificultades en la adaptación al nuevo sistema o por la disminución de los registros indebidos, merece ser objeto de investigación para que se pueda, de manera planificada, comprender y superar el desafío continuo de mejorar el sistema de información de la atención primaria.

Resumo: A substituição do Sistema de Informação da Atenção Básica (SIAB, 1998-2015), a partir de janeiro de 2016, pelo novo Sistema de Informação em Saúde para a Atenção Básica (SISAB) determinou novas formas de coleta, processamento e uso das informações, com possível impacto nos registros das atividades desenvolvidas na atenção primária à saúde no Brasil. O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar o impacto da implantação do novo sistema de informação sobre registros de atendimentos de médicos e enfermeiros, e de visitas domiciliares de agentes comunitários de saúde (ACS) brasileiros entre 2007 e 2019. Para tal, utilizou-se uma abordagem bayesiana de modelo estrutural para séries temporais, com base em uma regressão difusa de espaço-estado. Ao longo do período de 2016 a 2019, foram registrados 463,47 milhões de atendimentos médicos, 210,61 milhões de atendimentos de enfermagem e 1,28 bilhão de visitas de ACS. Seguindo a tendência registrada antes da implantação, seriam esperados 598,86 milhões, 430,46 milhões e 1,5 bilhão de atendimentos de médicos, enfermeiros e visitas de ACS, respectivamente. Em termos relativos, houve um decréscimo de 25% nos atendimentos médicos, 51% nos atendimentos de enfermagem e 15% nas visitas de ACS quando comparado com o valor esperado pelo método bayesiano. O impacto negativo no registro de atendimentos e de visitas domiciliares identificado neste estudo, seja por dificuldade de adaptação ao novo sistema, seja por diminuição de registros indevidos, merece ser alvo de investigação para que se possa, de forma planejada, compreender e superar o desafio da melhoria do sistema de informação da atenção primária.

Abstract This article aimed to map therapeutic itineraries in health care within rural Quilombola communities in the north of Minas Gerais, Brazil. This is a section of a qualitative research conducted in six visited communities. The data was collected through 18 individual interviews, analyzed using the theoretical-methodological framework of Therapeutic Itineraries, and organized into three empirical themes. The narratives allowed for understanding the paths taken in health care by the Quilombola population, identifying the components of the popular subsystem (natural resources, the use of teas and home remedies), the family subsystem (transmission of knowledge and cultural heritage of care), and the professional subsystem (hospital level, medical care, primary and specialized attention). The difficulties of access are not only due to geographical distances, but also broader aspects of social determination, such as institutional racism, low availability of services, the need for payment for transportation and medical procedures. In this sense, it is necessary to have an approach and interventions from public policies to address ethnic-racial, economic, and access inequalities in health care services.

Resumo Este artigo teve como objetivo mapear os itinerários terapêuticos no cuidado em saúde em comunidades quilombolas rurais no norte de Minas Gerais, Brasil. Trata-se de um recorte de uma pesquisa qualitativa realizada em seis comunidades visitadas. Os dados foram produzidos por meio de 18 entrevistas individuais, analisados pelo referencial teórico-metodológico dos itinerários terapêuticos e organizados em três temas empíricos. As narrativas permitiram a compreensão dos percursos trilhados no cuidado em saúde pela população quilombola, a identificação dos componentes do subsistema popular (recursos naturais, o uso de chás e remédios caseiros), do subsistema familiar (transmissão de conhecimentos e herança cultural de cuidados), e do subsistema profissional (nível hospitalar, cuidados médicos, atenção primária e especializada). As dificuldades de acesso não decorrem apenas das distâncias geográficas, envolvem aspectos mais amplos da determinação social, como o racismo institucional, a baixa oferta de serviços, a necessidade de pagamento para deslocamentos e procedimentos médicos. Nesse sentido, fazem-se necessárias uma abordagem e intervenções das políticas públicas frente às desigualdades étnico-raciais, econômicas e de acesso aos serviços de cuidado em saúde.

Resumo O objetivo do estudo foi mapear, através de uma revisão de escopo, as evidências disponíveis na literatura sobre o uso de agregrantes plaquetários em pacientes comprometidos e que realizaram cirurgias odontológicas. Pesquisas foram realizadas em bases de dados por estudos clínicos com pacientes comprometidos que realizaram cirurgia odontológica e usaram agragantes plaquetários. Apenas estudos em inglês foram incluídos. Dois pesquisadores independentes realizaram a seleção dos estudos. Os seguintes dados foram extraídos: desenho do estudo, objetivo, procedimento cirúrgico, agregante plaquetário usado, envolvimento sistêmico, desfecho analisado e principais resultados. Uma análise descritiva dos dados foi realizada. Vinte e dois estudos preencheram os critérios de elegibilidade e foram incluídos. Série de casos foi o desenho de estudo mais frequente entre os estudos incluídos (41,0%). Em relação ao comprometimento sistêmico, 19 estudos reportaram pacientes com câncer e em relação ao tratamento cirúrgico, 16 estudos reportaram pacientes que realizavam tratamento para osteonecrose relacionada ao uso de medicamentos. O agregante mais utilizado foi o plasma rico em fribina (P-PRF). Em geral, maioria dos estudos recomendou o uso dos agregantes plaquetários. Abstract The objective of this study was to map, through a scoping review, the evidence available in the literature on the use of platelet concentrates in compromised patients undergoing oral surgeries. Searches were performed in electronic databases for clinical studies with compromised patients undergoing oral surgery who used platelet concentrates. Only studies published in English were included. Two independent researchers carried out the selection of studies. The study design and objective, surgical procedure and platelet concentrate used, systemic involvement, analyzed outcome, and main results were extracted. A descriptive analysis of the data was performed. Twenty-two studies met the eligibility criteria and were included. Case series was the most frequent study design among the included studies (41.0%). In terms of systemic disability, 19 studies reported patients with cancer and related to surgical treatment 16 studies reported patients underwent treatment for osteonecrosis related to the use of the drug. SUMMARY OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to analyze the effectiveness of the distance education course in family health in the knowledge of physicians from the Mais Médicos program. METHOD: This is a quantitative, quasi-experimental study, without a pretest and posttest control group, carried out from August 2019 to September 2021. In all modules, physicians responded to a pretest and posttest to verify their knowledge of the subject. RESULTS: There was a statistically significant difference in all modules with higher average scores in the posttests; the modules with the greatest emphasis are child health care: growth and development; approach to cancer in primary health care; and family health strategy and territorialization. CONCLUSION: The effectiveness of the distance education course was verified, as evidenced by the significant improvement of knowledge in all the modules studied. RESUMO Não há na literatura recomendações de adubação com manganês (Mn) para beterraba estabelecidas no semiárido brasileiro. Objetivou-se avaliar o desempenho agronômico de beterraba fertirrigada manganês em Mossoró, RN. Foram desenvolvidos experimentos na Fazenda Experimental Rafael Fernandes nos anos de 2019 e 2021, delineados em blocos casualizados completos com cinco tratamentos (0, 3,0, 6,0, 9,0 e 12,0 kg ha-1 de Mn) e quatro repetições. Houve aumento no teor de Mn na diagnose foliar com a adubação. O acúmulo de massa seca e o número de folhas não diferiram estatisticamente em função das doses. A maior produtividade total (21,59 t ha-1) e comercial (20,55 t ha-1) de raiz tuberosa foi obtida com 6,0 kg ha-1 de Mn. O efeito deletério do excesso de Mn foi expresso na menor produtividade total e comercial de beterraba adubada com mais que 6,0 kg ha-1 de Mn. O Mn acumulado na raiz tuberosa não foi influenciado pela adubação. Nas folhas e na planta inteira, o acúmulo máximo ocorreu na dose 12,0 kg ha-1 de Mn. ABSTRACT No study has investigated the fertilization of beet with manganese (Mn) in the Brazilian semi-arid region. In this study, we evaluated the agronomic performance of manganese fertigated beet in Mossoró, Rio Grande do Norte. The experiments were conducted at Fazenda Experimental Rafael Fernandes in 2019 and 2021, and the study had a complete randomized block design with five treatments (0, 3, 6, 9, and 12 kg ha-1 Mn) and four replications. The Mn content increased in foliar diagnosis with fertilization. The accumulation of dry mass and the number of leaves did not differ significantly as a function of the dose. The highest total (21.59 t ha-1) and commercial (20.55 t ha-1) yields of tuberous roots were obtained with 6 kg ha-1 Mn. The adverse effects of excess Mn were expressed in the lower total and commercial productivity of beet fertilized with more than 6 kg ha-1 Mn. The accumulation of Mn in the tuberous roots was not affected by fertilization. In the leaves and the whole plant, the maximum accumulation occurred when 12 kg ha-1 Mn was applied. Although Mn did not influence the content of soluble solids, the pH of the tuberous roots of plants fertilized with 6 kg ha-1 Mn decreased, and the dose with the highest total and commercial productivity had a lower content of soluble sugars. Our findings suggest that treatment with 6 kg ha-1 Mn is optimum for the beet crop. ABSTRACT Agroforestry systems have the potential to increase soil organic matter, with effects on soil carbon and nitrogen contents, but information on the application of these systems in semi-arid regions is still scarce. This study aimed to analyze soil carbon and nitrogen stocks in the conversion of native forest from the Caatinga Biome into integrated agriculture systems in the Brazilian semi-arid region. We evaluated the following management systems in the Haplic Inceptisol (Cambissolo Háplico eutrófico): (1) Intercropping area, cultivated with corn and Massai grass; (2) Caatinga (natural vegetation); (3) AFS10: agroforestry system with native woody forest rows occupying 33 % and agriculture occupying 66 % of the total area; and (4) AFS20: agroforestry system presenting inverse proportions of AFS10. The agroforestry systems were intercropped with sorghum or millet, pigeon pea and Massai grass. We collected disturbed and undisturbed soil samples at the layers of 0.00-0.10; 0.10-0.20; 0.20-0.40, 0.40-0.60 and 0.60-1.00 m for analysis of carbon (SOC), nitrogen (N), soil bulk density, and calculation of SOC and N stocks and C/N ratio, two years after the conversion of natural vegetation to the agricultural area (intercropping) and agroforestry system (AFS10 and AFS20). We applied principal component and cluster analysis to explore the data, and confidence interval to compare the means of accumulated SOC and N stocks up to 1 m soil depth. No differences exist for the properties analysed in superficial layers (0.00-0.10 and 0.10-0.20 m), regardless of land-use systems. AFS20 increase the SOC content and, consequently, SOC stock, in subsurface layers; on the other hand, intercropping increases N content and N stock. AFS20 presented higher accumulated SOC stocks up to 1.00 m (114.97 Mg ha-1). ABSTRACT Introduction: Since the reduction of healthcare-associated infections has been a focus for quality patient care, this study aimed to evaluate the surgical site infection rate of children who underwent cardiovascular surgery after implementation of ozonized water system for hand and body hygiene allied to previously implemented preventive measures. Methods: Two uniformly comparable groups of pediatric patients underwent cardiovascular surgery. Group A (187) patients were operated prior to installation of ozonized water system (March 1 to August 31, 2019), and group B (214) patients were operated after installation of ozonized water system (October 1, 2019, to March 31, 2020). Ozonized water was used for professional hand hygiene and patient body hygiene. Results: There was statistical significance for surgical site infection reduction in group B (P=0.0289), with a relative risk of 0.560 (95% confidence interval = 0.298 to 0.920), inferring the risk of being diagnosed with surgical site infections in group B was 44% less than in group A. There was no statistical significance regarding mechanical ventilation time (P=0.1998) or mortality (P=0.4457). Conclusion: Ozonized water for professional hand hygiene and patient body hygiene was an adjuvant combined with traditional preventive methods to reduce the risk of surgical site infection, although no impact on hospital stay or mortality was observed. RESUMO Objetivo: Testar a eficácia clínica e a segurança de equipamento de estimulação elétrica transcraniana por corrente contínua (ETCC) de baixo custo em ensaio clínico para transtorno depressivo maior (TDM). Métodos: Foram recrutadas 168 pessoas e incluídos e randomizados 32 indivíduos com depressão moderada ou grave (escores na HDRS17 >18; 16 indivíduos em cada grupo). A intervenção consistiu de 10 sessões de ETCC ativa a 2 mA no córtex pré-frontal dorsolateral esquerdo por 30 minutos, ou sham. O desfecho principal foi HDRS17; os desfechos secundários foram satisfação (TSQM II) e qualidade de vida (WHOQOL-BREF). Avaliações no início, no final do tratamento e após 30 dias de seguimento. Resultados: A amostra foi composta de 11 homens e 21 mulheres, com idade média de 42,75 anos (IC 95%: 38,10 a 47,40). O tratamento ativo foi superior ao sham: houve interação significativa entre grupo e tempo em relação aos escores de HDRS17 na ANOVA (F = 4,089, df = 2, p = 0,029; partial Eta squared = 0,239). A análise post hoc mostrou diferença significativa na HDRS17 no follow-up após 30 dias (diferença = -7,75, p= 0,008, Cohen’s d = 1,069). Houve 3 dropouts, todos no grupo ativo, devido a problemas de agenda. Não houve registro de efeitos adversos graves. Conclusão: O tratamento ativo teve relação com melhora clínica de sintomas depressivos. A intervenção foi bem tolerada. Técnicas de estimulação cerebral não invasivas ainda não são rotina na prática clínica, apesar de estratégias viáveis para pacientes resistentes a tratamento, respondedores parciais e pessoas com intolerância a medicamentos. ABSTRACT Objective: Verify the clinical efficacy and safety of a low-cost tDCS device, in a clinical trial for major depressive disorder. Methods: 168 persons were recruited; 32 depressed individuals with moderate or severe depressive symptoms (HDRS17 scores higher than 18) were included and randomized for the trial (16 individuals in each group). The intervention consisted of 10 active anodal tDCS sessions at 2 mA for 30 minutes over the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex; or sham. The main outcome was HDRS17; secondary outcomes included satisfaction (TSQM II) and quality of life (WHOQOL-BREF). Assessments at baseline, endpoint and at 30 days follow-up. Results: The sample was composed by a total of 11 men and 21 women, mean age of 42.75 years (95% CI: 38.10-47.40). Active treatment was superior than sham: There was a significant interaction between group and time regarding HDRS-17 scores (F = 4.089, df = 2, p = 0.029; partial Eta squared = 0. 239). Post hoc analyses exhibited a statistically significant difference between active and sham group symptoms after a 30 days follow-up (difference = -7.75, p = 0.008, Cohen’s d = 1.069). There were 3 dropouts, all in the active group, due schedule issues. No severe adverse effects reported.
