We investigated the timely initiation of antenatal care among Brazilian adolescents to support the national discussion on the gestational age limit for legal abortion. Using data from the Live Births Information System (SINASC) from 2020 to 2022, we correlated timely prenatal care (in the first trimester of pregnancy) with the adolescent's age, region, race/color, and education level. Considering the estimated age at conception, we estimate that 11,607 annual births result from vulnerable rape. Timely initiation increased with age, being 70.2% for all adolescents (<20 years), but only 55.6% for those under 13; 14.1% of adolescents started antenatal care at 22 weeks or more of gestation (28.3% among those <13 years). Timely initiation was lower in the North Region, among Indigenous girls, and among those with low educational attainment. The results challenge the recent legislative proposal to limit legal abortion for victims of vulnerable rape to up to 22 weeks of gestational age. Delays in recognizing pregnancy and communicating with the family contribute to the late initiation of antenatal care and the decision to abort. The proposed deadline for legal abortions will primarily affect the most socioeconomically and racially vulnerable adolescents.
Investigamos o início oportuno do pré-natal em adolescentes brasileiras para subsidiar a discussão nacional sobre o limite de idade gestacional para o aborto legal. Com dados do Sistema de Informação sobre Nascidos Vivos (SINASC) 2020-2022 correlacionamos o início oportuno do pré-natal (primeiro trimestre da gestação) com a idade da adolescente, região, raça/cor e escolaridade. Considerando a idade estimada na concepção, estimamos que 11.607 partos anuais resultam de estupro de vulnerável. O início oportuno aumentou com a idade, sendo de 70,2% para todas as adolescentes (<20 anos), mas de apenas 55,6% para aquelas abaixo de 13 anos; 14,1% das adolescentes iniciaram o pré-natal com 22 semanas ou mais de gestação (28,3% entre <13 anos). O início oportuno foi menor na Região Norte, entre meninas indígenas e entre aquelas com baixa escolaridade. Os resultados questionam o recente projeto de lei de limitar o aborto legal para vítimas de estupro de vulnerável até 22 de semanas de idade gestacional. Demoras no reconhecimento da gestação e na comunicação para a família contribuem para o início tardio do pré-natal e para a decisão de abortar. A proposta de limite do prazo para abortos legais irá atingir principalmente as adolescentes mais vulneráveis em termos socioeconômicos e raciais.

RESUMO O 35º Congresso Brasileiro de Cirurgia foi marcado por discussões inovadoras para a educação cirúrgica no país. Pela primeira vez, o Colégio Brasileiro de Cirurgiões incluiu a Cirurgia Global na pauta principal do congresso, proporcionando uma oportunidade única de repensar como as habilidades cirúrgicas são ensinadas a partir de uma perspectiva de saúde pública. Essa discussão nos leva a considerar por que e como o ensino da Cirurgia Global deve ser expandido no Brasil. Embora pesquisadores e instituições brasileiras tenham contribuído para a expansão do campo desde 2015, as iniciativas de educação em Cirurgia Global ainda são incipientes em nosso país. Basear-se em estratégias bem-sucedidas pode ser um ponto de partida para promover a área entre os profissionais de cirurgia nacionais. ABSTRACT The 35th Brazilian Congress of Surgery marked a turning point for surgical education in the country. For the first time, the Brazilian College of Surgeons included Global Surgery on the main congressional agenda, providing a unique opportunity to rethink how surgical skills are taught from a public health perspective. This discussion prompts us to consider why and how Global Surgery education should be expanded in Brazil. Although Brazilian researchers and institutions have contributed to the fields expansion since 2015, Global Surgery education initiatives are still incipient in our country. Relying on successful strategies can be a starting point to promote the area among national surgical practitioners. Resumen: Los accidentes en la infancia tienen una alta tasa de morbimortalidad y, muchas veces, son prevenibles, por lo que refuerza la importancia de medidas educativas para prevenir lesiones no intencionales. El objetivo de estudio fue identificar y describir estrategias educativas útiles para la prevención de accidentes en la infancia en el contexto comunitario. Esta revisión sistemática fue guiada por PRISMA (2020) y registrada en la plataforma PROSPERO (ID: CRD42024500956). Se realizó una búsqueda combinando los descriptores “Accident Prevention” (prevención de accidentes), “Child” (niño) y “Health Education” (educación en salud) con el operador booleano AND, aplicado a las bases de datos PubMed/MEDLINE, Web of Science, LILACS y SciELO. Se encontraron 5.037 estudios, que incluye artículos observacionales publicados entre 2018-2023, con niños de 0 a 12 años y/o sus padres/cuidadores. La calidad de los estudios se evaluó considerando los criterios de los instrumentos Qualitative Studies Checklist y Research Triangle Institute Item Bank. La muestra bibliográfica consistió en 30 artículos, en su mayoría clasificados como de alta calidad, realizados con una población de 4.510 adultos y 54.190 niños de varios países. Se describieron estrategias educativas para la prevención de accidentes dirigidas a padres y tutores, niños o ambos. Esta revisión aborda estrategias educativas innovadoras para la prevención de accidentes en la infancia y destaca los enfoques lúdicos para los niños y las técnicas visuales para los cuidadores. La aplicación se enfrenta a desafíos relacionados con la evaluación y los factores socioeconómicos, por lo que los criterios estrictos y los seguimientos prolongados son importantes para mantener su eficacia.
Resumo: Acidentes na infância têm uma alta taxa de morbidade e mortalidade e, muitas vezes, podem ser evitados, o que reforça a importância de medidas educacionais para evitar lesões não intencionais. O objetivo foi identificar e descrever estratégias educacionais úteis para a prevenção de acidentes infantis no contexto da comunidade. Essa revisão sistemática foi orientada pelo PRISMA (2020) e registrada na plataforma PROSPERO (ID: CRD42024500956). Uma estratégia de busca foi desenvolvida combinando os descritores “Accident Prevention” (prevenção de acidentes), “Child” (criança) e “Health Education” (educação em saúde) com o operador booleano AND, aplicado às bases de dados PubMed/MEDLINE, Web of Science, LILACS e SciELO. A implementação enfrenta desafios relacionados à avaliação e a fatores socioeconômicos, tornando critérios rigorosos e acompanhamentos prolongados importantes para a eficácia contínua.
Abstract: Accidents in childhood have a high morbidity and mortality rate and are often preventable, which reinforces the importance of educational measures to prevent unintentional injuries. This study aimed to identify and describe useful educational strategies for preventing childhood accidents in communities. This systematic review was guided by PRISMA (2020) and registered on the PROSPERO platform (ID: CRD42024500956). A search strategy was developed by combining the descriptors “Accident Prevention”, “Child”, and “Health Education” with the Boolean operator AND, applied to the PubMed/MEDLINE, Web of Science, LILACS, and SciELO databases. A total of 5,037 studies were located, including observational articles published from 2018 to 2023, with children aged 0-12 years and/or their parents/caregivers. The quality of the studies was assessed based on the Qualitative Studies Checklist and the Research Triangle Institute Item Bank instruments. The bibliographic sample consisted of 30 articles, mostly classified as high quality, with a population of 4,510 adults and 54,190 children from various countries. Educational strategies for accident prevention were described, aimed at parents and guardians, children, and both. This review, addressing innovative educational strategies for preventing childhood accidents, highlights playful approaches for children and visual methods for caregivers. Implementation faces challenges related to evaluation and socioeconomic factors, making rigorous criteria and prolonged follow-ups important for continuous effectiveness.

RESUMO Objetivo: Analisar o conteúdo publicado nos Anais do 71º Congresso Brasileiro de Enfermagem e do 20º Seminário Nacional de Pesquisa em Enfermagem na área da saúde sexual e reprodutiva. Método: Estudo qualitativo, descritivo, cujas fontes de dados foram resumos com temáticas referentes à Saúde Sexual e Reprodutiva nos Anais de 2019 dos eventos. Realizou-se análise de conteúdo, tipo lexical com auxílio do software IRAMUTEq®. Resultados: Dos 3.433 resumos recrutados foram analisados 603, sendo grande parte de estudos qualitativos e relato de experiências, com enfoque na área materno-infantil e nos processos patologizantes e medicalizadores da saúde da mulher. Entretanto, houve sinalizações de promoção de saúde e cuidados humanizados. Conclusão: A divulgação dos estudos da Área da Saúde Sexual e Reprodutiva parece estar num conflito entre acomodação e resistência, pois, ao mesmo tempo que mantém antigos imperativos do domínio hegemônico, busca superá-los com novas metodologias e cuidados pautados na integralidade e equidade. ABSTRACT Objective: To analyze the content published in the Proceedings of the 71st Brazilian Nursing Congress and the 20th National Research Seminar in the field of sexual and reproductive health. Method: Qualitative, descriptive study, whose data sources were the annalsof two 2019 events that were related to Sexual and Reproductive Health. Content analysis and lexical typology were carried out with the aid of the IRAMUTEq® software. Results: In a universe of 3,433 abstracts, 603 were analyzed and showed a higher prevalence of qualitative studies and experience reports, focusing on the maternal-child area and on the pathologizing and medicalizing processes of women's health, with incipient use of software in the analysis. However, there were signs of health promotion and humanized care. Conclusion: The dissemination of studies in the field of sexual and Reproductive Health seems to be in a conflict between accommodation and resistance, at the same time that it maintains old imperatives of the hegemonic domain, seeking to overcome them with new methodologies and care based on integrality and equity. RESUMEN Objetivo: Analizar el contenido publicado en los anales del 71° Congreso Brasileño de Enfermería y del 20° Seminário Nacional de Investigación en Enfermería en el área de salud sexual y reproductiva Método: Estudio cualitativo y descriptivo, cuyas fuentes de datos fueron resúmenes con temas relacionados con la Salud Sexual y Reproductiva en los anales de eventos de 2019. El análisis de contenido y de tipo lexical se realizaron con ayuda del software IRAMUTEq®. Resultados: De los 3.433 resúmenes, se analizaron 603, la mayoría de los cuales eran estudios cualitativos y relato de experiencias, con foco en el área materno-infantil y los procesos patologizantes y medicalizantes de la salud de la mujer. Sin embargo, buscan traer perspectivas de promoción de la salud y atención humanizada. Conclusión: La difusión de estudios en Salud Sexual y Reproductiva parece estar en un conflicto entre acomodaciones y resistencias, manteniendo viejos imperativos del dominio hegemónico, pero buscando superarlos con nuevas metodologías y cuidados basados en integralidad y equidad. ABSTRACT The limited temporal completeness and taxonomic accuracy of species lists, made available in a traditional manner in scientific publications, has always represented a problem. These lists are invariably limited to a few taxonomic groups and do not represent up-to-date knowledge of all species and classifications. In this context, the Brazilian megadiverse fauna is no exception, and the Catálogo Taxonômico da Fauna do Brasil (CTFB) (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/), made public in 2015, represents a database on biodiversity anchored on a list of valid and expertly recognized scientific names of animals in Brazil. The CTFB is updated in near real time by a team of more than 800 specialists. By January 1, 2024, the CTFB compiled 133,691 nominal species, with 125,138 that were considered valid. Most of the valid species were arthropods (82.3%, with more than 102,000 species) and chordates (7.69%, with over 11,000 species). These taxa were followed by a cluster composed of Mollusca (3,567 species), Platyhelminthes (2,292 species), Annelida (1,833 species), and Nematoda (1,447 species). All remaining groups had less than 1,000 species reported in Brazil, with Cnidaria (831 species), Porifera (628 species), Rotifera (606 species), and Bryozoa (520 species) representing those with more than 500 species. Analysis of the CTFB database can facilitate and direct efforts towards the discovery of new species in Brazil, but it is also fundamental in providing the best available list of valid nominal species to users, including those in science, health, conservation efforts, and any initiative involving animals. Foram localizados 5.037 estudos, incluindo artigos observacionais publicados entre 2018-2023, com crianças de 0 a 12 anos e/ou seus pais/cuidadores. A qualidade dos estudos foi avaliada considerando os critérios dos instrumentos Qualitative Studies Checklist e Research Triangle Institute Item Bank. A amostra bibliográfica consistiu em 30 artigos, em sua maioria classificados como de alta qualidade, com uma população de 4.510 adultos e 54.190 crianças de vários países. Abstract: Accidents in childhood have a high morbidity and mortality rate and are often preventable, which reinforces the importance of educational measures to prevent unintentional injuries. This study aimed to identify and describe useful educational strategies for preventing childhood accidents in communities. This systematic review was guided by PRISMA (2020) and registered on the PROSPERO platform (ID: CRD42024500956). A search strategy was developed by combining the descriptors “Accident Prevention”, “Child”, and “Health Education” with the Boolean operator AND, applied to the PubMed/MEDLINE, Web of Science, LILACS, and SciELO databases. A total of 5,037 studies were located, including observational articles published from 2018 to 2023, with children aged 0-12 years and/or their parents/caregivers. The quality of the studies was assessed based on the Qualitative Studies Checklist and the Research Triangle Institute Item Bank instruments. The bibliographic sample consisted of 30 articles, mostly classified as high quality, with a population of 4,510 adults and 54,190 children from various countries. Educational strategies for accident prevention were described, aimed at parents and guardians, children, and both. This review, addressing innovative educational strategies for preventing childhood accidents, highlights playful approaches for children and visual methods for caregivers. Implementation faces challenges related to evaluation and socioeconomic factors, making rigorous criteria and prolonged follow-ups important for continuous effectiveness. Abstract Background Patients with immune-mediated rheumatic diseases (IMRDs) have been prioritized for COVID-19 vaccination to mitigate the infection severity risks. Patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) are at a high risk of severe COVID-19 outcomes, especially those under immunosuppression or with associated comorbidities. However, few studies have assessed the safety of the COVID-19 vaccine in patients with RA. Objective To evaluate the safety of vaccines against SARS-CoV-2 in patients with RA. Methods This data are from the study “Safety and Efficacy on COVID-19 Vaccine in Rheumatic Diseases,” a Brazilian multicentric prospective phase IV study to evaluate COVID-19 vaccine in IMRDs in Brazil. Adverse events (AEs) in patients with RA of all centers were assessed after two doses of ChAdOx1 (Oxford/AstraZeneca) or CoronaVac (Sinovac/Butantan). Stratification of postvaccination AEs was performed using a diary, filled out daily and returned at the end of 28 days for each dose. Results A total of 188 patients with RA were include, 90% female. CoronaVac was used in 109 patients and ChAdOx1 in 79. Only mild AEs were observed, mainly after the first dose. The most common AEs after the first dose were pain at the injection (46,7%), headache (39,4%), arthralgia (39,4%), myalgia (30,5%) and fatigue (26,6%), and ChAdOx1 had a higher frequency of pain at the injection (66% vs 32 %, p < 0.001) arthralgia (62% vs 22%, p < 0.001) and myalgia (45% vs 20%, p < 0.001) compared to CoronaVac. The more common AEs after the second dose were pain at the injection (37%), arthralgia (31%), myalgia (23%), headache (21%) and fatigue (18%). Arthralgia (41,4% vs 25%, p = 0.02) and pain at injection (51,4% vs 27%, p = 0.001) were more common with ChAdOx1. No serious AEs were related. With Regard to RA activity level, no significant difference was observed between the three time periods for both COVID-19 vaccines. Conclusion In the comparison between the two immunizers in patients with RA, local reactions and musculoskeletal symptoms were more frequent with ChAdOx1 than with CoronaVac, especially after the first dose. In summary, the AE occurred mainly after the first dose, and were mild, like previous data from others immunizing agents in patients with rheumatoid arthritis. Abstract Objectives: To determinate the otoprotective efficacy of melatonin.in experimental models of rodents through a systematic review of the literature. Methods: Altogether, 154 articles were found in four databases. The PICOS strategy (Population, Intervention, Comparison, and Outcome) was used to define the eligibility criteria. Studies that met the inclusion criteria for the second step were included in a qualitative synthesis. Each study type was analyzed with the CAMARADES quality of assessment’s checklist and the SYRCLE RoBS risk of bias. Results: Seven articles were selected, and four were included in the meta-analysis. It was possible to obtain seven outcomes according to the standard auditory frequencies presented among the studies, considering a minimum of three standard frequencies. The outcomes analyzed were for the frequencies of 1500, 2000, 3000, 4000, 5000, 6000, and 8000 Hz. Conclusion: Melatonin can provide protection against the ototoxic effects of cisplatin and aminoglycosides at 5000 Hz, 6000 Hz, and 8000 Hz, thereby minimizing the reduction in Otoacustic Emissions (OAE) amplitude. The same effect was not observed in the lower frequencies. Despite the limited number of studies that were evaluated, the results appeared consistent in higher frequencies. However, the methodology of the available studies did not meet the necessary methodological rigor that promotes the safe replicability of these studies. Resumo O artigo tematiza a representação de identidades de minorias, por meio de duas capas da edição de dezembro de 2018 da revista Elle, releituras fotográficas do Nascimento de Vênus, de Boticelli e de O Beijo, de Gustav Klimt. Sendo a primeira estampada por uma modelo transexual negra e a segunda um casal de famosos atores negros como protago-nistas da releitura. Utiliza-se como instrumento metodológico a análise iconográfica para interpretar os elementos componentes das fotografias. Conclui-se que as imagens trazem novas representações da comunidade negra e transexual, além e ressignificar os quadros através da escolha de seus elementos de destaque ou de anulação.
Abstract The article focuses on the representation of minority identities, through two covers of the December 2018 edition of Elle magazine, photographic readings of the Birth of Venus, by Boticelli and O Beijo, by Gustav Klimt. The first being printed by a black transsexual model and the second a couple of famous black actors as protagonists of the reinterpretation. Iconographic analysis is used as a methodological tool to interpret the component elements of the photographs. It is concluded that the images bring new repre-sentations of the black and transsexual community, in addition to giving new meanings to the pictures through the choice of their prominent or nullifying elements.
Resumen El artículo analiza la representación de identidades minoritarias a través de dos portadas de la edición de diciembre de 2018 de la revista Elle, relecturas fotográficas del “Nacimiento de Venus”, Boticelli y “El Beso” de Gustav Klimt. Siendo la primera de una modelo transexual negra y la segunda una pareja de famosos actores negros brasileños como protagonistas de la relectura. Se utiliza como instrumento metodológico el análisis iconográfico para interpretar los elementos componentes de las fotografías. Se concluye que las imágenes traen nuevas representaciones de la comunidad negra y transexual, ade-más de resignificar las imágenes al elegir sus elementos de prominencia o anulación.

Abstract This study aimed to evaluate the contribution of oral and maxillofacial pathology laboratories (OMPLs) in Brazilian public universities to the diagnosis of lip, oral cavity, and oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). A cross-sectional study was performed using biopsy records from a consortium of sixteen public OMPLs from all regions of Brazil (North, Northeast, Central-West, Southeast, and South). Clinical and demographic data of patients diagnosed with lip, oral cavity, and oropharyngeal SCC between 2010 and 2019 were collected from the patients’ histopathological records. Of the 120,010 oral and maxillofacial biopsies (2010-2019), 6.9% (8,321 cases) were diagnosed as lip (0.8%, 951 cases), oral cavity (4.9%, 5,971 cases), and oropharyngeal (1.2%, 1,399 cases) SCCs. Most cases were from Brazil’s Southeast (64.5%), where six of the OMPLs analyzed are located. The predominant profile of patients with lip and oral cavity SCC was Caucasian men, with a mean age over 60 years, low schooling level, and a previous history of heavy tobacco consumption. In the oropharyngeal group, the majority were non-Caucasian men, with a mean age under 60 years, had a low education level, and were former/current tobacco and alcohol users. According to data from the Brazilian National Cancer Institute, approximately 9.9% of the total lip, oral cavity, and oropharyngeal SCCs reported over the last decade in Brazil may have been diagnosed at the OMPLs included in the current study. Abstract Objective To evaluate clinical characteristics and outcomes of COVID-19 patients infected with HIV, and to compare with a paired sample without HIV infection. Methods This is a substudy of a Brazilian multicentric cohort that comprised two periods (2020 and 2021). Data was obtained through the retrospective review of medical records. Primary outcomes were admission to the intensive care unit, invasive mechanical ventilation, and death. Patients with HIV and controls were matched for age, sex, number of comorbidities, and hospital of origin using the technique of propensity score matching (up to 4:1). They were compared using the Chi-Square or Fisher's Exact tests for categorical variables and the Wilcoxon for numerical variables. Results Throughout the study, 17,101 COVID-19 patients were hospitalized, and 130 (0.76%) of those were infected with HIV. The median age was 54 (IQR: 43.0;64.0) years in 2020 and 53 (IQR: 46.0;63.5) years in 2021, with a predominance of females in both periods. People Living with HIV (PLHIV) and their controls showed similar prevalence for admission to the ICU and invasive mechanical ventilation requirement in the two periods, with no significant differences. In 2020, in-hospital mortality was higher in the PLHIV compared to the controls (27.9% vs. 17.7%; p = 0.049), but there was no difference in mortality between groups in 2021 (25.0% vs. 25.1%; p > 0.999). Conclusions Our results reiterate that PLHIV were at higher risk of COVID-19 mortality in the early stages of the pandemic, however, this finding did not sustain in 2021, when the mortality rate is similar to the control group. RESUMO Objetivo: analisar a tendência temporal da utilização da traqueostomia em pacientes hospitalizados pelo Sistema Único de Saúde no Brasil no período de 2011 a 2020. Método: estudo observacional de tipo ecológico, com abordagem quantitativa, e incluiu a população brasileira com 20 anos ou mais que, internadas pelo Sistema Único de Saúde, tiveram registro de realização do procedimento de traqueostomia em qualquer momento da hospitalização. Resultados: das 113.569.570 hospitalizações estudadas, foram identificadas 172.456 traqueostomias realizadas no Brasil (0,15%). A taxa média de realização deste procedimento apresentou tendência de queda no período estudado. A maior taxa média de traqueostomia foi encontrada na Região Sul, e a faixa etária mais afetada foi a dos 80 anos ou mais. A taxa média de traqueostomia no sexo masculino foi de 1,8 vezes maior do que no sexo feminino. As principais causas associadas à realização de traqueostomia foram as patologias respiratórias, oncológicas e decorrentes de causas externas, sendo que as causas respiratórias contribuíram com 73% do total de procedimentos estudados. Conclusões: as taxas médias de mortalidade e letalidade das internações com traqueostomia no Brasil foram de 3,36 e 28,57%, mas apresentaram tendência de redução no período.

Resumo: Objetivo Caracterizamos a dieta e a guilda trófica da comunidade de peixes em uma unidade de conservação para contribuir com informações sobre a ecologia trófica. Métodos As coletas foram realizadas em três pontos de amostragem, em 2017 e 2018, com o auxílio de redes de espera. Os espécimes foram eutanasiados em solução de benzocaína a 0,5%. Em laboratório, os estômagos foram retirados, fixados em formol 4% e preservados em álcool 70%. O conteúdo estomacal foi examinado e os itens alimentares foram identificados até o menor nível taxonômico possível e quantificados de acordo com o método volumétrico. A caracterização da dieta foi apresentada por meio do volume percentual de cada alimento consumido. Para a determinação da guilda trófica de cada espécie, foi considerada a predominância de um determinado tipo de recurso alimentar (> 51% do volume total) na dieta da população. Resultados A dieta das espécies foi distribuída em 16 itens alimentares (predominância de decapoda, fragmento de peixe, inseto terrestre e vegetal aquático), e quatro guildas tróficas foram observadas (carcinófago, piscívoro, insetívoro terrestre e herbívoro). Além disso, houve a ocorrência de microplástico na dieta de três espécies. Conclusões A comunidade de peixes aqui avaliada demonstra uma ampla gama de recursos que podem compor a dieta dos peixes e demonstra as diferentes guildas tróficas que podem ser observadas em uma área protegida. Por se tratar de uma unidade de conservação, conhecer a dieta e as guildas tróficas que compõem a comunidade de peixes pode contribuir para o entendimento da dinâmica das cadeias alimentares, da estrutura da comunidade e do funcionamento do ecossistema. Assim, este trabalho pode contribuir com informações sobre a biologia das espécies avaliadas para futuros trabalhos e programas de conservação.
Abstract: Aim We characterize the diet and trophic guild to the fish community in a protected area to contribute information about the trophic ecology. Methods The collection was carried out at three sampling points, in 2017 and 2018, with the help of gill nets. The collected specimens were euthanized in a 0.5% benzocaine solution. In the laboratory, all specimens' stomachs were removed, fixed in a 4% formalin solution, and preserved in 70% alcohol. Stomach contents were examined, and the food items were identified to the lowest possible taxonomic level. Food items were quantified according to the volumetric method. The characterization of the diet was presented through the percentage volume of each food item consumed. To determination of the trophic guild of each species, the predominance of a type of food resource (> 51% of the total volume) in the population's diet was considered. Results The species' diets were distributed in 16 food items (predominance of decapods, fish fragments, terrestrial insects, and aquatic plants), and four trophic guilds were observed (carcinophage, piscivore, terrestrial insectivore, and herbivore). Furthermore, there was the occurrence of microplastic in the diet of three species. Conclusions the fish community evaluated here demonstrates the wide range of resources that can make up the fish diet and demonstrates the different trophic guilds that can be observed in a protected area. As it is a conservation unit, knowing the diet and trophic guilds that make up the fish community can contribute to understanding the dynamics of food chains, the structure of the community, and the functioning of the ecosystem. Thus, this work can contribute information about the biology of the species evaluated for future work and conservation programs.

Abstract Background Although cardiovascular disease is a major cause of death among women, cardiovascular risk assessment in young women is frequently postponed due to a number of factors. Objectives To assess cardiovascular risk of young adult women living in one of Rio de Janeiro’s Family Health Strategy geographical units in the city’s central area. Materials and Methods populational, cross-sectional study with adults between 20 and 50 years old. Sociodemographic characteristics such as educational level and employment status were recorded. Anthropometric measurements, traditional cardiovascular risk factors, gynecological and gestational history, and selected laboratory exams were assessed. The bivariate analysis compared the baseline characteristics of the population between genders and the prevalence of cardiovascular risk factors in women according to educational level and occupation status, using non-paired Student’s t-test for normal continuous variables, Mann-Whitney test for asymmetrical continuous variables, and chi-square test for categorical variables. A significance level of 5% (p < 0.05) was adopted. Results A total of 710 individuals were enrolled. In women, who comprised 59.7% of our sample, central obesity and a sedentary lifestyle were more prevalent, whereas smoking and hypertension were less observed. However, women with lower educational status had a higher prevalence of smoking and hypertension. In hypertensive women, factors such as early menopause, higher prevalence of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy and higher number of pregnancies were noticed. Conclusion An adverse cardiovascular risk profile in our population of young women was particularly influenced by central obesity, sedentary lifestyle, hypertensive disorders of pregnancy and lower educational status.
