Gender equity still needs to be fostered in society, and education can help change this scenario. This research aimed to investigate the impact of a didactic sequence involving inquiry-based science education and actions aimed at gender equity and deconstructing stereotypes in promoting more equitable participation among adolescent girls and boys. This is an action research in an extension activity, which analysed evaluative data from video recordings and questionnaires. The analysis involved immersion in the data, its categorisation and coding, and the determination of counting rules. The results indicate that inquiry based science education and jointly planned actions can help avoid sexist examples, foster examples of women's participation in Science, and enable equal participation between girls and boys, enabling them to interact and engage equally. Among the challenges identified, we have the greater difficulty in stimulating argumentation and explanation from both girls and boys and stimulating verbal participation from students who are not very participative.

La equidad de género sigue siendo un tema pendiente de fomentar en la sociedad y la educación puede contribuir a cambiar este escenario. Esta investigación se propuso investigar el impacto de una secuencia didáctica que incluía educación científica basada en la indagación y acciones dirigidas a la equidad de género y a la deconstrucción de estereotipos en la promoción de una participación más equitativa entre las niñas y los niños adolescentes. Se trata de una investigación-acción en una actividad de extensión, que analizó datos evaluativos de grabaciones de vídeo y cuestionarios. El análisis implicó la inmersión en los datos, su categorización y codificación, y la determinación de reglas de conteo. Los resultados indican que la educación científica basada en la indagación y las acciones planificadas conjuntamente pueden ayudar a evitar ejemplos sexistas, fomentar ejemplos de participación de mujeres en la Ciencia y permitir la participación igualitaria entre niñas y niños, permitiéndoles interactuar y participar en igualdad de condiciones. Entre los retos identificados, tenemos la mayor dificultad para estimular la argumentación y la explicación tanto de las niñas como de los niños y estimular la participación verbal de los/as estudiantes poco participativos/as.

A equidade de gênero ainda precisa ser fomentada na sociedade e a educação pode contribuir para mudar este cenário. Entre os desafios identificados temos: a maior dificuldade de estimular a argumentação e a explicação tanto de meninas como de meninos, e estimular a participação verbal dos alunas/os pouco participativas/os.

Resumo O objetivo desta pesquisa foi avaliar a qualidade de painéis produzidos com diferentes proporções de partículas de madeira de Pinus oocarpa e resíduos de cigarro industrializado. As partículas foram misturadas em diferentes proporções (100% de partículas de pinus, 90% de partículas de pinus e 10% de partículas de cigarro, 80% de partículas de pinus e 20% de partículas de cigarro, 70% de partículas de pinus e 30% de partículas de cigarro). Abstract The objective of this research was to evaluate the quality of panels produced with different proportions of Pinus oocarpa wood particles and industrial cigarette waste. The wood came from an experimental field and the cigarette waste was obtained through a donation. The particles were mixed in different proportions (100% pine particles, 90% pine particles and 10% cigarette particles, 80% pine particles and 20% cigarette particles, 70% pine particles and 30% cigarette particles). The results showed that all particleboards reached the minimum value specified by NBR 14810-2 (ABNT, 2018) for Thickness Swelling (TS). In order to minimize the vulnerability of young people to exposure to HIV and the risks of living with stigma and social prejudice, it is necessary to adopt strategies to raise awareness about the disease and to expand the dissemination of public policies that cover this topic.

Se elaboró una lista de verificación para baño seguro en paciente crítico compuesta por 41 ítems, que fue sometida al proceso de validación aparente y de contenido, evaluada por 11 jueces, y confiabilidad interobservadores. ABSTRACT Objective: To validate a checklist for safe bathing in critically ill patients. Methods: This is a methodological and quantitative study. Researchers developed a checklist for safe bathing in critically ill patients consisting of 41 items, which were submitted to the apparent and content validation process, evaluated by eleven judges, and interobserver reliability. For reliability analysis, the instrument was applied in 54 bed bath procedures in the ICU; Kappa and CHF tests were used. Results: In the apparent and content validation, adjustments were made according to the judges’ suggestions. Kappa values ranged from moderate to almost perfect (0.462 to 0.962), and, in some items, there was 100% agreement; the reliability of the instrument was excellent (ICC = 0.962). ABSTRACT BACKGROUND: Precisely determining the aspects related to an instrument's validity and reliability measures allows for greater assurance of the quality of the results. OBJECTIVES: To analyze the psychometric properties of The Providers Survey in the Brazilian context of mental health services. DESIGN AND SETTING: The instrument validation study was conducted in Montes Claros, Minas Gerais, Brazil. METHODS: The validation study was conducted using the Consensus-based Standards for the Selection of Health Measurement Instruments checklist to analyze its validity and reliability. RESULTS: A committee of expert judges performed content validation after which the Content Validity Index was calculated. Construct validation took place through Exploratory Factor Analysis using the Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin Test criterion and Bartlett's Sphericity Test. Reliability was verified using test-retest reliability. The significance level adopted for the statistical tests was 5% (P < 0.05). The final instrument comprised 54 questions. The Content Validity Index was 97%. Exploratory Factor Analysis identified a Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin index of 0.901 and Bartlett's Sphericity Test with P < 0.001. We obtained a Cronbach's alpha coefficient of 0.95 and an intraclass correlation coefficient of 0.849. CONCLUSIONS: The Providers Survey, translated and adapted into Portuguese, was named the Work Assessment Instrument for the Recovery of Mental Health. It presented adequate psychometric properties for evaluating work-related practices for the recovery of psychosocial care network users. RESUMO Objetivo: Avaliar a influência de fatores maternos e perinatais na composição nutricional do leite humano. Métodos: Estudo transversal, realizado entre novembro de 2018 e janeiro de 2020, com 181 doadoras selecionadas em Unidades Terciárias de Saúde do Sistema Único de Saúde de um Posto de Coleta e cinco Bancos de Leite Humano. Foram coletados dados das variáveis maternas e dos recém-nascidos por meio de questionário padronizado. Estar apta para ser doadora em um Banco de Leite Humano e produzir leite maduro foram os critérios de elegibilidade para participar do estudo. As amostras de leite com acidez Dornic acima de 8° D foram excluídas. Os macronutrientes do leite humano, variáveis dependentes (carboidratos, proteínas, lipídeos, energia total) foram analisados pela técnica de espectroscopia de transmissão no infravermelho médio com o Miris Human Milk Analyzer™. Os fatores maternos e perinatais foram as variáveis independentes. Resultados: Mulheres com obesidade pré-gestacional e ganho de peso gestacional acima do recomendado apresentaram menor concentração proteica em relação às eutróficas (mediana=0,8, intervalo interquartil [IQR]: 0,7–0,9 vs. mediana=0,8, IQR: 0,8–1,0) e aquelas com ganho de peso gestacional adequado (mediana=0,8, IQR: 0,7–0,9 vs. mediana=0,9, IQR: 0,8–1,0), respectivamente. ABSTRACT Objective: The objective of this study was to evaluate the influence of maternal and perinatal factors on the nutritional composition of human milk. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted between November 2018 and January 2020, with 181 donors selected in Tertiary Health Units of the Unified Health System — from one collection station and five Human Milk Banks. Data were collected through a standardized questionnaire. To be fit to be a donor in a Human Milk Banks and produce mature milk were the eligibility criteria to participate in the study. We excluded milk samples with Dornic acidity above 8° D. The dependent variables were the macronutrients of human milk (i.e., carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, and total energy), that were analyzed using spectroscopy with the Miris Human Milk Analyzer™. The maternal and perinatal factors were the independent variables. Results: Women with pre-gestational obesity and gestational weight gain above the recommendation showed a lower protein concentration compared to eutrophic women (median=0.8, interquartile range (IQR): 0.7–0.9 vs. median=0.8, and IQR: 0.8–1.0) and those with adequate gestational weight gain (median=0.8, IQR: 0.7–0.9 vs. median=0.9, and IQR: 0.8–1.0), respectively. RESUMO: Este estudo teve como objetivo avaliar o efeito do período de co-alimentação (C) no crescimento e sobrevivência de larvas da espécie ornamental Botia lohachata durante o período de desmame de alimento vivo (LF) para alimento inerte (IF). Os reprodutores foram submetidos à desova induzida com homogeneizado de hipófise. Foram utilizadas 2.400 larvas com peso inicial médio de 0,39 ± 0,09 mg e comprimento total médio de 4,08 ± 0,21 mm, de um único casal reprodutor. O alimento vivo foi náuplios recém-eclodidos de Artemia franciscana, e a dieta inerte foi uma ração comercial com 55% de proteína bruta e dois tamanhos de partículas (142-350 µm e 350-500 µm). Como primeiro alimento, todas as larvas receberam A. franciscana durante os primeiros seis dias, exceto os grupos jejum (NC) e alimento inerte (IF). As seguintes estratégias de co-alimentação foram empregadas: C4 = 4 dias de co-alimentação, C8 = 8 dias de co-alimentação, C12 = 12 dias de co-alimentação e LF = Artemia durante todo o período experimental. ABSTRACT: This study evaluated the effect of the co-feeding (C) period on the growth and survival of larvae of the yo-yo loach Botia lohachata ornamental species during the weaning period from live food (LF) to inert food (IF). The breeders were subjected to induced spawning using crude pituitary homogenate. A total of 2,400 larvae were used with an average initial weight of 0.39 ± 0.09 mg and an average total length of 4.08 ± 0.21 mm, from a single breeding pair. The live food was newly hatched nauplii of Artemia franciscana, and the inert diet was a commercial ration with 55% crude protein and two particle sizes (142-350 µm and 350-500 µm). As the first food, all larvae received A. franciscana during the first six days, except for the fasting (NC) and inert food (IF) groups. The following co-feeding strategies were employed: C4 = 4 days of co-feeding, C8 = 8 days of co-feeding, C12 = 12 days of co-feeding, and LF = Artemia during the entire experimental period. The longest period with live food promoted better larval growth rates. The specific growth rate of larvae fed live food during the entire period (LF) was higher than that of the other groups, followed by the co-feeding strategies. There was no effect (P > 0.01) on larval survival in the LF, C12, C8, and C4 groups, which ranged from 41% to 53% after 30 days. Abstract: The proper choice of raw materials and manufacturing parameters for Cross Laminated Timber is essential to promote the proper bonding of the lamellas, aiming at their application in construction. However, few Brazilian species are currently used in the production of Cross Laminated Timber. The aim of this work was to characterize the bonding quality of four Brazilian reforestation species (Pinus elliottii (pino ellioti), Eucalyptus grandis (eucalipto), Toona ciliata (toona) and Acrocarpus fraxinifolius (lazcar)) in the manufacture of Cross Laminated Timber with two-component polyurethane adhesive and five different pressure levels (from 0,1 MPa to 1,3 MPa). Bonding quality was evaluated through delamination and glue line shear tests based on the European standard. Delamination was affected by the wood species, and the best adhesion occurred for the Cross Laminated Timber manufactured with Pinus elliottii (pino ellioti) and Acrocarpus fraxinifolius (lazcar) at the bonding pressure of 0,7 MPa. Cross Laminated Timber bonding pressure did not affect the percentage of wood in the shear test fractured surface, whereas higher density Cross Laminated Timber showed higher percentages.

RESUMO Objetivo Analisar a sobrevida de portadores da doença de Chagas, beneficiários da previdência e da assistência social no Brasil, 1942-2016. Métodos Estudo de coorte retrospectivo com dados do Ministério da Previdência Social. O evento de interesse foi o óbito, e as funções de sobrevida foram estimadas pelos métodos Kaplan-Meier e de regressão de Cox. Resultados No período “início da doença até o óbito”, o sexo feminino (HR=0,54; IC95% 0,43–0,53) e recebimento de benefícios previdenciários (HR=0,13; IC95% 0,11–0,23) foram associados a maior sobrevida. A menor sobrevida esteve associada à forma cardíaca da doença (HR=2,64; IC95% 2,23–3,12), residência em zona rural (HR=1,23; IC95% 1,14–1,21) e manifestação da doença entre os anos de 2000 e 2016 (HR=5,32; IC95% 4,74–5,93). Da mesma forma, no período “incapacidade laboral até o óbito”, o sexo feminino (HR=0,51; IC95% 0,41–0,52) e o recebimento de benefícios previdenciários (HR=0,24; IC95% 0,14–0,45) foram associados a maior sobrevida, assim como forma cardíaca da doença (HR=1,95; IC95% 1,83–2,13), residência em zona rural (HR=1,31; IC95% 1,21–1,54) e manifestação da doença entre os anos de 2000 e 2016 (HR=1,53; IC95% 1,33–1,71) associaram-se a menor sobrevida. Conclusão Os principais preditores de mortalidade e sobrevida de portadores de doença de Chagas que recebem benefícios previdenciários e assistenciais no Brasil foram apresentados. Estes achados podem nortear a definição de prioridades de ações de acompanhamento pela atenção primária à saúde, preconizada atualmente para o manejo longitudinal da doença.

ABSTRACT Objective To analyze the survival of patients with Chagas disease, beneficiaries of social security and social assistance, in Brazil, from 1942 to 2016. Methods This is a retrospective cohort study with data from the Brazilian Ministry of Social Security. The event of interest was death, and the survival functions were estimated by the Kaplan-Meier and Cox regression methods. Results In the period “onset of the disease until death”, women (HR=0.54; 95%CI 0.43–0.53) and receiving social security benefits (HR=0.13; 95%CI 0.11–0.23) were associated with longer survival. Lower survival was associated with the cardiac form of the disease (HR=2.64; 95%CI 2.23–3.12), living in a rural area (HR=1.23; 95%CI 1.14–1.21), and manifestation of the disease between the years 2000 and 2016 (HR=5.32; 95%CI 4.74–5.93). Likewise, in the period “work disability until death”, women (HR=0.51; 95%CI 0.41–0.52) and receiving social security benefits (HR=0.24; 95%CI 0,14–0.45) were associated with longer survival, as well as the cardiac form of the disease (HR=1.95; 95%CI 1.83–2.13), living in a rural area (HR=1.31; 95%CI 1.21–1.54), and manifestation of the disease between 2000 and 2016 (HR=1.53; 95%CI 1.33–1.71) were associated with lower survival. Conclusion The main predictors of mortality and survival of patients with Chagas disease who receive social security and assistance benefits in Brazil were presented. These findings can guide the definition of priorities for follow-up actions by Primary Health Care, currently recommended for the longitudinal management of the disease.

Resumen: Este estudio tuvo como objetivo estimar la prevalencia del COVID-19 e identificar los factores sociales y las estrategias preventivas asociadas a esta enfermedad en personas en situación de vulnerabilidad socioeconómica (recolectores de basura, inmigrantes/refugiados y personas sin hogar) en Goiânia, Estado de Goiás, en la región central de Brasil. Se trata de un estudio transversal realizado de julio a octubre de 2020. Las personas que tuvieron una prueba de anticuerpos anti-SARS-CoV-2 positiva y/o una prueba de ARN para SARS-CoV-2 se consideraron positivas para el COVID-19. Se realizaron análisis de regresión univariante y múltiple para identificar las variables asociadas al COVID-19. De los 594 participantes, el 47,3% eran recicladores; el 29,6% inmigrantes/refugiados; y el 23,1% eran personas sin hogar. La positividad fue del 14,1% para el ARN del SARS-CoV-2; del 30,8% para el total de anti-SARS-CoV-2; y del 39,4% para al menos un marcador del COVID-19. De los 541 participantes, ser inmigrante/refugiado, no usar mascarilla quirúrgica y tener tres o más personas que comparten la misma habitación fueron los factores asociados con la infección por SARS-CoV-2, mientras que confiar en la información sobre la pandemia, especialmente transmitidas por los noticiarios, fue un indicador de protección contra esta enfermedad. Este estudio reveló las desigualdades étnicas y socioeconómicas en la prevalencia del COVID-19 entre las personas de bajos ingresos en Brasil. Además, se detectó una alta prevalencia del COVID-19 en los tres grupos. El desarrollo de nuevas estrategias para combatir y prevenir las enfermedades transmisibles que afectan a esta población es fundamental para mitigar las pandemias futuras y actuales.

Abstract: This study aimed to estimate the prevalence and identify social factors and preventive strategies associated with the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in socio and economically vulnerable people (recyclable waste pikers, immigrants/refugees, and homeless people) in Goiânia, Goiás State, Central-Western Brazil. A cross-sectional study was conducted from July 2020 to October 2020. COVID-19 positivity was defined as a positive total anti-SARS-COV-2 antibody test and/or RNA test for SARS-COV-2. Univariable and multiple regression analyses were performed to identify the variables associated with COVID-19. Of the 594 participants, 47.3% were recyclable waste pickers, 29.6% were immigrants/refugees, and 23.1% were homeless people. The positivity for SARS-CoV-2 RNA was 14.1%, whereas for anti-SARS-CoV-2 a total of 30.8% were positive, and 39.4% were positive for at least one COVID-19 marker. Among the 541 individuals, being immigrants/refugees, not wearing a surgical mask, and having three or more people sleeping in the same room were associated with SARS-CoV-2 infection, while using TV news as the main source of information about the pandemic was a protective predictor of COVID-19. This study revealed ethnic and socioeconomic inequalities in the prevalence of COVID-19 among impoverished people in Brazil. Additionally, a high prevalence of COVID-19 was detected in all three groups. Developing new strategies to combat and prevent communicable diseases affecting this population is essential for mitigating future and ongoing pandemics.

Resultados: 4.719 gestantes compuseram a população do estudo; 9,6 e 5,1% foram hospitalizadas em enfermaria e UTI, respectivamente; 1,9% evoluíram para óbito. Houve associação entre a idade materna avançada e internação em enfermaria (RP=1,36; IC95% 1,10–1,62) e UTI (RP=2,25; IC95% 1,78–2,71), e óbito (RP=3,22; IC95% 2,30–4,15). Verificou-se associação entre o terceiro trimestre gestacional e hospitalização em enfermaria (RP=5,06; IC95% 2,82–7,30) e UTI (RP=6,03; IC95% 3,67–8,39) e óbito (RP=13,56; IC95% 2,90–24,23). O segundo trimestre associou-se à internação em UTI (RP=2,67; IC95% 1,36–3,99). Gestantes com cardiopatia apresentaram maior frequência de hospitalização em enfermaria (RP=2,24; IC95% 1,43–3,05) e UTI (RP=2,66; IC95% 1,46–3,87). A obesidade foi associada à admissão em UTI (RP=3,79; IC95% 2,71–4,86) e ao óbito (RP=5,62; IC95% 2,41–8,83). Conclusão: A idade materna avançada, o final do período gestacional e comorbidades foram fatores associados a quadros graves de COVID-19.

Abstract We investigated the Biogran on bone repair and metabolism at several time-intervals upon grafting into rat tibia artificial defects. The biomaterial was thoroughly characterized in vitro, and its dissolution behavior upon immersion was assessed in simulated body fluid (SBF) solution for 1, 3, 7, 14, and 30 days. Biogran was also assessed by in vitro hydroxyapatite formation in SBF solution, which is a marker for bioactive behavior. In vivo, distal and proximal bone defects were performed in the Wistar rat's right tibia and filled according to the experimental groups: I) negative control, no filling; II) positive control, 10 mg of autogenous bone; and III) 10 mg of Biogran. Animals were euthanized at 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, and 10 weeks. Bone neoformation was analyzed using histomorphometry (proximal defect), and local levels of bone morphogenetic protein 2 (BMP-2) were measured using the ELISA assay (distal defect). In vitro, the Biogran sample showed a fast dissolution rate within the first 7 days, parallel to the formation of the hydroxyapatite layer. In vivo, the sample was progressively resorbed at a higher rate within the first month until it became almost absent at week 10th. The sample presented similar or higher bone neoformation concerning the autogenous bone. BMP-2 levels were sustained in the Biogran group (around 200 pg/mg) and detected until the last experimental time with a significant difference compared with the controls.
