Faced with the global challenge of water treatment, the investigation of the removal of endocrine disruptor compounds (EDCs) in aquatic environments is essential to protect human and animals health. In this study, a novel nanocomposite was prepared from biochar from agricultural waste (corn cob) and maghemite (γ-Fe2O3) nanoparticles, named PCCN, to remove four EDCs (triclosan, 17α-ethinylestradiol, methylparaben, and bisphenol A) from aqueous solutions by adsorption. For the characterization of PCCN, the advanced techniques Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Brunauer-Emmett-Teller analysis (BET), pH of point of zero charge (pHpzc), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and thermogravimetry (TGA) were employed. Competitive adsorption equilibrium studies of EDCs were performed with PCCN and compared to unmodified biochar (PCC). The pH effect showed that optimal adsorption of EDCs was at pH 8.0 for PCC and pH 6.0 for PCCN. The salt concentration did not influence EDCs in the adsorption. In the adsorption isotherm, the results fitted the Freundlich isotherm model (R2 > 0.903) and the adsorption kinetics were well described by the pseudo-second-order model (R2 > 0.985). Furthermore, the desorption studies indicated that the PCCN can be reused. In silico and in vitro tests can reveal promising anti-leishmania activity for natural products and their derivatives. The aim of this study was to investigate in silico the pharmacological activities of potential new chalcones and their leishmanicidal potential in vitro. The in silico study was carried out using the PASS, MolPredictX and Molegro Virtual Docker 6.0 programs. Antiparasitic activity was assessed in axenic promastigote and amastigote forms of Leishmania braziliensis. The cytotoxicity tests used the J77G8 cell line. The chalcones exhibited 50% cytotoxic concentration values (CC50) values > 50 μM. Chalcone 4 (named FERAI) presented the best activity with concentration for 50% of promastigotes and intracellular parasites forms (EC50) of 9.75 ± 1.7 and 10.13 ± 1.7 μM for promastigote and amastigote, respectively. RESUMO: O ensino de anatomia vem se modificando ao longo dos anos, introduzindo métodos tecnológicos, principalmente após o período pandêmico. Questiona-se o uso exclusivo da tecnologia em comparação aos métodos tradicionais de dissecação e aulas teóricas presenciais no que diz respeito à aquisição de conhecimento. Este artigo analisou a percepção de conhecimento de alunos de diversos semestres do curso de Medicina Veterinária, comparando alunos que tiveram aulas apenas online com aqueles que tiveram aulas presenciais de Anatomia Descritiva dos Animais Domésticos. Para tanto, questões foram enviadas por meio de formulário, com preenchimento voluntário e anônimo, e posteriormente analisadas estatisticamente. Os resultados indicam que 11,5% dos alunos que cursaram a disciplina remotamente falharam na aplicação dos conhecimentos em outras disciplinas, enquanto nenhum aluno do ensino presencial relatou o mesmo. A maioria dos alunos, tanto dos grupos remotos quanto dos presenciais, lembram-se do assunto, mas revisam o conteúdo com frequência. Em relação ao conhecimento teórico, o grupo online (80,8%) compreendeu melhor à medida que o curso avançava, comparado a 59,6% do grupo presencial. A ligação entre Anatomia e outras disciplinas foi mais destacada pelo grupo presencial (30,8%) em comparação ao online (15,4%). Ambos os grupos concordam que o contacto físico com peças anatômicas é essencial, mas alguns consideram possível ter um primeiro contacto com imagens ou fotografias 3D. ABSTRACT: Anatomy teaching has been changing over the years, introducing technological methods especially after the pandemic period. An ongoing debate revolves around whether exclusive reliance on technology for anatomy classes, as opposed to traditional methods and face-to-face instruction, enhances knowledge acquisition. This study analyzed the knowledge perception of students from various semesters throughout the Veterinary Medicine course, comparing students who only had online classes with those who had face-to-face classes in Gross Anatomy of Domestic Animals. For this purpose, a questionnaire was distributed for voluntary and anonymous completion, and the responses were subsequently analyzed statistically. The results indicated that 11.5% of the students who took Anatomy remotely failed to apply the knowledge in other subjects, while no face-to-face learning student reported the same. Most students, both remote and face-to-face groups, remember the subject but review the content frequently. Regarding theoretical knowledge, the online group (80.8%) understood better as the course progressed, compared to 59.6% of the face-to-face group. The connection between Anatomy and other subjects was more highlighted by the face-to-face group (30.8%) compared to the online group (15.4%). Both groups agree that physical contact with anatomical specimens is essential; however, some believe that initial exposure through 3D images or photographs is feasible. We concluded based on this preliminary study that the initial interactions with the Anatomy field should include diversified pedagogical techniques with empathetic communication. The use of modern technological resources are allies in the teaching-learning process. RESUMO O consumo de dióxido de carbono atmosférico pelo intemperismo tampona o efeito estufa na Terra em escala de tempo geológica. Esse mecanismo é chamado de sumidouro de carbono de silicato (SCS). Saprolito representa parte da frente de intemperismo do manto terrestre, mas historicamente não recebeu muita atenção dos geocientistas. Em escala global, o Brasil é o maior contribuinte para o SCS e o quarto maior contribuinte em número de publicações sobre saprolito. Neste estudo, a produção científica brasileira sobre o assunto de 1990 a 2022 foi avaliada, considerando publicações indexadas nas bases de dados Web of Science, SciELO e Scopus. Foram recuperados cento e oitenta artigos científicos. Na última década, sete artigos foram publicados por ano. Ao longo dos 32 anos considerados, o número de artigos sobre saprolito aumentou. A maioria dos estudos foi concentrada na região sudeste do Brasil, onde o estado de Minas Gerais liderou em termos de número de publicações (28,49%). ABSTRACT The consumption of atmospheric carbon dioxide by weathering buffers the greenhouse effect on Earth on a geological timescale. This mechanism is called the silicate carbon sink (SCS). Saprolite represents part of the weathering front of the Earth’s mantle, but historically, it has not received much attention from geoscientists. On a global scale, Brazil is the largest contributor to the SCS and the fourth largest contributor to the number of saprolite publications. In this study, Brazilian scientific production on the subject from 1990 to 2022 was assessed, considering publications indexed in the Web of Science, SciELO and Scopus databases. One hundred-eighty scientific articles were retrieved. In the last decade, seven articles were published per year. Over the 32 years under consideration, the number of articles on saprolite has increased. Most of the studies were concentrated in the southeastern region of Brazil, where the state of Minas Gerais led in terms of the number of publications (28.49%). The main areas in which the articles were published were related to ecology, Earth, and marine; however, they were cited by several others, including the areas of health and politics. RESUMO O objetivo da pesquisa foi avaliar a secagem da polpa de trapiá com a adição de aditivos de secagem, determinando a cinética de secagem e as propriedades termodinâmicas das amostras. Foram elaboradas formulações a partir da polpa e os aditivos monoglicerídeos, carboximetilcelulose - CMC e goma guar em diferentes combinações e concentrações (F1 - 0,5% de CMC e 0,5% de Monoglicerídeos; F2 - 0,5% de Goma Guar e 0,5% de Monoglicerídeos; e F3 - 0,25% de Goma Guar, 0,5% de CMC e 0,5% de Monoglicerídeos). A secagem foi realizada a 50, 60 e 70 ºC com camadas de 0,5 cm de espessura. A cinética de secagem foi determinada e diferentes modelos matemáticos foram ajustados aos dados. ABSTRACT The objective of the research was to study the drying of trapiá pulp with the addition of drying aids, determining the drying kinetics and thermodynamic properties of the samples. Formulations of the pulp was treated with the additives monoglycerides, carboxymethylcellulose - CMC and guar gum in different combinations and concentrations (F1 - 0.5% CMC and 0.5% Monoglycerides; F2 - 0.5% Guar Gum and 0.5% Monoglycerides; and F3 - 0.25% Guar Gum, 0.5% CMC and 0.5% Monoglycerides) trapiá. Drying was carried out at 50, 60 and 70 ºC with 0.5 cm thick layers. The drying kinetics were determined, and different mathematical models fitted to the data. RESUMO: Uma das causas de perda de produtividade em lavouras de cana está associada à espécie Diatraea saccharalis, também conhecida por broca da cana. Portanto, este estudo avaliou a viabilidade do uso de sensores hiperespectrais para obter a resposta espectral foliar da cana-de-açúcar em diferentes períodos de infestações, tanto a nível foliar quanto dossel, a fim de diagnosticar antecipadamente os danos da Diatraea saccharalis. O estudo contou com três variedades de cana-de-açúcar: CTC9003BT, CTC4 e RB966928. Em metade das parcelas foi utilizado o inseticida Altacor® para o controle de pragas. As coletas de dados ocorreram nas fases: brotação, perfilhamento, crescimento de colmos e início da maturação. Para avaliar os efeitos da broca na cana foi coletado os dados referentes ao conteúdo relativo de água (CRA), assinatura espectral foliar em laboratório e dossel, índices de vegetação (NDVI e MCARI), produtividade, pureza e ATR (Açúcar Total Recuperável). O maior CRA encontrado foi para a CTC9003BT (60,15%) sem inseticida e 59,0% com inseticida. As faixas espectrais do visível (400-680 nm) e infravermelho próximo (750-1300 nm) identificaram variações espectrais nas plantas com e sem broca. O percentual de broca apresentou correlações altas e negativas entre a produtividade, NDVI e ATR, com coeficientes de -0,68, -0,76 e -0,76, respectivamente. ABSTRACT: One of the causes of productivity loss in sugarcane cultivation has been associated with the species Diatraea saccharalis, also known as the sugarcane borer. Therefore, this study evaluated the feasibility of using hyperspectral sensors to obtain the leaf spectral response of sugarcane in different periods of infestation at leaf and canopy levels to diagnose D. saccharalis damage in advance. The study included three varieties of sugarcane: CTC9003BT, CTC4, and RB966928. The insecticide Altacor® was used to control pestsin half of the plots. Data collection occurred at the following stages: sprouting, tillering, stalke longation, and early maturation. Data regarding relative water content (RWC), leaf spectral signature in the laboratory and canopy, vegetation indices (NDVI and MCARI), productivity, purity, and total recoverable sugar (TRS) were collected to evaluate the borer effects on the sugarcane crop. The highest RWC was observed for CTC9003BT (60.15%) without insecticide and 59.0% with insecticide. The visible (400-680 nm) and near-infrared (750-1300 nm) spectral bands identified spectral variations in plants with and without sugarcane borer. ABSTRACT: A total of 860 Embrapa 051 pullets were allocated into three groups based on their 19-week body weights (heavy: 1.48 kg ± 0.01 SD, N= 172 birds, medium: 1.32 kg ± 0.039 SD, N= 516 birds, light: 1.19 kg ± 0.019 SD, N=172 birds) and housed in floor pens with nests for a 65-week production period. Heavy-weight birds exhibited higher egg production during weeks 24-28, while medium-weight hens surpassed heavy-weight counterparts between weeks 41-46, and light-weight hens outperformed heavy-weight birds in weeks 61-65. From weeks 57-65, no significant egg production differences were noted between heavy and medium-weight hens. Body weight at 19 weeks affected floor eggs, cracked eggs, and double-yolk eggs (P < 0.05) during weeks 22-34. Resumo Enquadramento: As ambulâncias de suporte imediato de vida (SIV) possibilitam ao enfermeiro capacidade de intervenção em contexto pré-hospitalar, suportada pelo seu conhecimento técnico-científico, protocolos complexos de atuação e regulação médica por telemedicina. Objetivo: Analisar os contributos da intervenção dos enfermeiros SIV, na evolução do estado clínico da pessoa em situação crítica (PSC). Metodologia: Estudo quantitativo, descritivo-correlacional, retrospetivo, realizado em meios SIV, na região norte de Portugal. Analisados 574 registos clínicos eletrónicos, entre 01 de novembro e 31 de dezembro de 2019, que correspondem ao mesmo número de pessoas avaliadas. Utilizada a escala National Early Warning Score (NEWS) para avaliar a evolução clínica da PSC. Resultados: Observou-se uma evolução positiva do score NEWS da PSC, após a intervenção do enfermeiro SIV (M = 4,43 ± 3,901 vs 3,34 ± 3,329; sig < 0,001). Em sentido inverso, o risco clínico diminuiu significativamente após a intervenção do enfermeiro. Conclusão: Demonstrou-se a relevância da intervenção do enfermeiro SIV no contexto pré-hospitalar, enquanto garantia de segurança, qualidade e melhoria contínua dos cuidados à PSC.

Abstract Background: Immediate life support (ILS) ambulances allow nurses to intervene in pre-hospital settings, supported by their technical-scientific knowledge and complex protocols of action and regulation through telemedicine. Objective: To analyze the contributions of nursing interventions in the evolution of the clinical state of critical patients. Methodology: Quantitative, descriptive-correlational, retrospective, and observational study conducted in ILS settings in northern Portugal. A total of 574 electronic clinical records were analyzed between 1 November and 31 December 2019, corresponding to the same number of people evaluated. The National Early Warning Score (NEWS) was used to assess the clinical evolution of critical patients. Results: There was a positive evolution of the NEWS score of critical patients after the intervention of ILS nurses (M = 4.43 ± 3.901 vs. 3.34 ± 3.329; sig < 0.001). Similarly, the clinical risk of critical patients decreased after the nurse’s intervention. Conclusion: This study demonstrated the importance of nurses in prehospital care, as a guarantee of safety, quality, and continuous improvement of care for critical patients.

Resumen Marco contextual: Las ambulancias de soporte vital inmediato (SVI) permiten al personal de enfermería intervenir en un contexto prehospitalario, con el apoyo de sus conocimientos técnico-científicos y de complejos protocolos de actuación y regulación médica a través de la telemedicina. Objetivo: Analizar las aportaciones de la intervención del personal de enfermería del SVI en la evolución del estado clínico de la persona en situación crítica (PSC). Metodología: Estudio cuantitativo, descriptivo-correlacional, retrospectivo, realizado en centros de SVI del norte de Portugal. Se analizaron 574 historias clínicas electrónicas entre el 1 de noviembre y el 31 de diciembre de 2019, correspondientes al mismo número de personas evaluadas. Se utilizó la escala National Early Warning Score (NEWS) para evaluar la evolución clínica de la PSC. Resultados: Se observó una evolución positiva en el score NEWS de la PSC, tras la intervención del personal de enfermería del SVI (M = 4,43 ± 3,901 vs 3,34 ± 3,329; sig < 0,001). Por el contrario, el riesgo clínico disminuyó significativamente tras la intervención del personal de enfermería. Conclusión: Se demostró la relevancia de la intervención del personal de enfermería del SVI en el contexto prehospitalario, como garantía de seguridad, calidad y mejora continua en la atención a la PSC.

Abstract Purpose: To describe the participatory process of community monitoring using aquatic insects as a tool to assess environmental quality in Cuitzmala y Purificacion basins. Methodological design: A participatory environmental monitoring model is proposed, which involves key actors, covering the upper, middle and lower part of each basin. A workshop was designed in appropriate way to the context of local actors and basin characteristics. The workshop consisted of four stages, involving theory and practice. Field diary was developed thought descriptive notes about what is seen and doing the participants. Results: Six community groups were formed, five in schools and one a Citizen Environmental Committee. Most participants found the workshop beneficial and expressed a desire for an increased number of monitoring sessions and additional monitoring sites. Participants successfully assessed their river section using aquatic insects, and it is recommended to provide technical support to strengthen monitoring skills and long-term monitoring. Research limitations: Still this action is considered an extracurricular activity. For this reason, is necessary work with professor to integrate these activities in the education program of the schools. Findings: Aquatic insects community monitoring strength and complement the scientific monitoring. The methodology used can be replicated in other coastal basins.

Resumen Objetivo: Describir el proceso participativo para el monitoreo comunitario a fin de evaluar la calidad ambiental de los ríos de las cuencas Cuitzmala y Purificación mediante un índice biótico multimétrico con insectos acuáticos previamente desarrollado para esta región. Diseño metodológico: Se propone un modelo de proceso participativo para el monitoreo ambiental. Con actores clave se seleccionaron localidades que abarcaron parte alta, media y baja de cada cuenca. Se diseñó un taller con base en protocolos para monitoreo, adecuado al contexto de las cuencas y actores elegidos. El taller consistió en cuatro etapas, en las que se capacitó con teoría y práctica. En un diario de campo se tomaron notas descriptivas respecto a lo que dijeron e hicieron los participantes. Resultados: Se conformaron seis grupos comunitarios, en cinco escuelas, y un Comité Ciudadano Ambiental. A la mayoría de los participantes les pareció bien el taller y les gustaría ampliar el número de monitoreos y los sitios a monitorear. Los participantes lograron evaluar su tramo de río con los insectos acuáticos y recomendaron continuar el acompañamiento técnico para fortalecer sus habilidades y asegurar el monitoreo a largo plazo. Limitaciones de la investigación: Aún esta actividad es considerada como extracurricular, por lo que es necesario trabajar con los docentes para que quede integrada en las materias del programa curricular de cada grado. Hallazgos: El monitoreo comunitario de los insectos acuáticos fortalece y complementa al monitoreo científico. Esta metodología puede ser replicada en otras cuencas costeras.

Resumen Aunque no es muy común, en los últimos 20 años se ha observado un aumento significativo en los reportes de rotura del pectoral mayor, normalmente asociado a la práctica de actividad física en la que se produce una contracción intensa y/o al uso de cargas pesadas ejerciendo resistencia sobre el mismo. el músculo. En este caso clínico tenemos un paciente de 51 años que refiere dolor en el pecho derecho y en el brazo derecho durante 3 días después de intentar arreglar el manillar de su motocicleta. Presentó asimetría de pectorales, pérdida de fuerza en miembro superior derecho, dificultad de movimiento y hematoma. La resonancia magnética demostró rotura completa de la unión miotendinosa del pectoral mayor, con tendinopatía con fisuras de inserción e intrasustancial del infraespinoso y tendinopatía con rotura parcial del tendón subescapular. Un médico ortopédico recomendó seguimiento con el uso de medicación analgésica.

Resumo Apesar de não muito frequente, nos últimos 20 anos, houve um aumento significativo dos relatos sobre rotura do peitoral maior, normalmente associadas à prática de atividade física em que ocorre contração intensa e/ou uso de cargas pesadas exercendo resistência sobre o músculo. Neste relato de caso temos um paciente de 51 anos referindo dor no tórax à direita e no braço direito há 3 dias após tentar consertar o guidão da moto. Apresentava assimetria dos peitorais, perda de força do membro superior direito, dificuldade de movimentação e hematoma. A ressonância magnética demonstrou rotura completa da junção miotendínea do peitoral maior, com tendinopatia com fissuras insercionais e intrasubstanciais infraespinhal e tendinopatia com rotura parcial do tendão subescapular. Foi indicado por médico ortopedista o acompanhamento com o uso de medicação analgésica.

Abstract Although not very common, in the last 20 years, there has been a significant increase in reports of rupture of the pectoralis major, normally associated with the practice of physical activity in which intense contraction occurs and/or the use of heavy loads exerting resistance on the muscle. In this case report we have a 51-year-old patient reporting pain in his right chest and right arm for 3 days after trying to fix his motorcycle's handlebars. He had asymmetry of the pectorals, loss of strength in the right upper limb, difficulty moving and hematoma. Magnetic resonance imaging demonstrated complete rupture of the myotendinous junction of the pectoralis major, with tendinopathy with insertional and intrasubstantial infraspinatus fissures and tendinopathy with partial rupture of the subscapularis tendon. An orthopedic doctor recommended follow-up with the use of analgesic medication.

Abstract Background: Healthcare-associated infections are a prevalent issue in health systems that affect everyone. The incidence and prevalence of healthcare-associated infections depend on the context in which they occur. An example of this is ventilator-associated pneumonia in intensive care units. Objective: To analyze the determinants of ventilator-associated pneumonia in an intensive care unit of a central hospital in northern Portugal. Methodology: A retrospective, descriptive-correlational quantitative study was conducted with 705 patients admitted to the ICU of the hospital under investigation. Results: The results show that male gender, previous antibiotic use, endotracheal reintubation, level of consciousness, cuff pressure, ventilation time, injury, poisoning, and certain other consequences of external causes as admitting diagnosis are among the determinants of ventilator-associated pneumonia. Moreover, the incidence of ventilator-associated pneumonia was of 4.5%. Conclusion: The study recommends the judicious use of antibiotics, limiting the duration of invasive ventilation, implementing ventilator weaning protocols, and auditing compliance with the care bundle for ventilator-associated pneumonia. This study sheds light on the prevention of ventilator-associated pneumonia and its recommendations contribute to better care and more effective and safer nursing interventions.

Resumo Enquadramento: As infeções associadas aos cuidados de saúde (IACS) são uma problemática atual dos sistemas de saúde variando a sua incidência, prevalência do contexto de cuidados. A pneumonia associada à ventilação (PAV) é disso um exemplo ocorrendo em unidades de cuidados intensivos (UCI). Objetivo: Analisar determinantes da PAV, em doentes internados numa UCI de um hospital central do norte de Portugal. Metodologia: Estudo descritivo-correlacional e retrospetivo, com base nos registos de 705 doentes internados na UCI. Resultados: Constituíram-se determinantes da PAV o sexo masculino, tratamento prévio com antibiótico, reintubação endotraqueal, nível de consciência, pressão de cuff, tempo de ventilação, diagnóstico de entrada lesões, envenenamento e algumas outras consequências de causas externas. A incidência de PAV foi de 4,5%. Conclusão: O uso criterioso de antibióticos, o menor tempo possível de ventilação invasiva, a implementação de protocolos de desmame ventilatório e auditorias ao cumprimento da bundle da PAV podem contribuir para melhores cuidados e intervenções de enfermagem mais eficazes e seguras.

Resumen Marco contextual: Las infecciones asociadas a los cuidados sanitarios (IACS) son un problema actual en los sistemas sanitarios, y su incidencia y prevalencia varían en función del entorno asistencial. Un ejemplo de ello es la neumonía asociada a la ventilación mecánica (PAV), que se da en las unidades de cuidados intensivos (UCI). Objetivo: Analizar los determinantes de la PAV en pacientes ingresados en la UCI de un hospital central del norte de Portugal. Metodología: Estudio descriptivo-correlacional y retrospectivo, basado en los registros de 705 pacientes ingresados en la UCI. Resultados: Los factores determinantes de la PAV fueron el sexo masculino, el tratamiento antibiótico previo, la reintubación endotraqueal, el nivel de consciencia, la presión del manguito, el tiempo de ventilación, el diagnóstico de entrada de lesiones, la intoxicación y algunas otras consecuencias de causas externas. La incidencia de PAV fue del 4,5%. Conclusión: El uso prudente de antibióticos, el menor tiempo posible de ventilación invasiva, la aplicación de protocolos de destete del ventilador y las auditorías de cumplimiento del paquete de PAV pueden contribuir a mejorar los cuidados y a que las intervenciones de enfermería sean más eficaces y seguras.

Resumo A NBR 7190-3 (ABNT, 2022) apresenta diferentes métodos para determinar o módulo de elasticidade da madeira, permitindo a adoção de equivalência entre o módulo de elasticidade na compressão (Ec0) e na tração (Et0). Por outro lado, não apresenta uma forma de estimar o módulo de elasticidade na flexão (EM0), e tais estimativas não consideram a variação das estruturas anatômicas das espécies. Diante dessa lacuna, é necessário avaliar se essas equações são válidas para diferentes espécies. O presente artigo avaliou as propriedades elásticas de três espécies: Cumaru (Dipteryxodorata), Marupá (Simarouba amara Aubl., Simaroubaceae) e Roxinho (Peltogyne spp., Leguminosa). Para isso, realizou-se o ensaio não destrutivo de flexão, seguido de ensaios à compressão e à tração. Imagens microscópicas foram comparadas, para compreender a influência das estruturas anatômicas nas propriedades de rigidez. Os resultados confirmaram a equivalência entre Ec0 e Et0. Abstract The NBR 7190-3 (ABNT, 2022) presents various methods to determine the wood's modulus of elasticity, allowing for the adoption of equivalence between the modulus of elasticity in compression (Ec0) and tension (Et0). However, it does not provide a way to estimate the modulus of elasticity in bending (EM0), and such estimates do not consider the variation in anatomical structures among species. Faced with this gap, it is necessary to evaluate whether these equations are valid for different species. This article evaluated the elastic properties of three species: Cumaru (Dipteryx odorata), Marupá (Simarouba amara Aubl., Simaroubaceae) and Roxinho (Peltogyne spp., Leguminosae). For this purpose, a non-destructive flexural test was initially conducted, followed by compression and tension tests. Resumo Atécnica de vergamento da madeira por vaporização se apresenta como opção viável para projetos de estruturas curvilíneas, como as gridshells. Madeiras coníferas são comumente adotadas em estruturas de cobertura, pois além da desejada relação entre resistência mecânica e densidade, permitem o completo tratamento da seção transversal da peça. Entretanto, características como a predominância de alburno ou de cerne e a presença de defeitos são variáveis que afetam o desempenho estrutural. O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar o limite de vergamento de lamelas de Acrocarpus flaxinifloius (cedro indiano) com raio de curvatura de 21 cm em diferentes espessuras. Também se investigou o impacto da predominância de alburno ou cerne e da presença de defeitos na força de vergamento. A literatura indica que a flexibilização plástica por vapor ocorre a 100°C, com 2,4 minutos para cada milímetro de espessura da lamela, parâmetros estes considerados neste estudo. Abstract The technique of bending wood by vaporization presents itself as a viable option for curvilinear structural projects, such as gridshells. Coniferous woods are often used in roof structures because, in addition to the desired relationship between mechanical strength and density, they allow the complete treatment of the cross-section of the piece. However, characteristics such as the predominance of sapwood or heartwood and the presence of defects are variables that affect structural performance. The aim of this study was to evaluate the bending limit of Acrocarpus laxinifloius (Indian cedar) veneers with a bending radius of 21 cm at different thicknesses. The impact of the predominance of sapwood or heartwood and the presence of defects on the bending strength was also investigated. The literature indicates that plastic flexibilization by steam occurs at 100°C, with 2.4 minutes for each millimeter of lamella thickness, which were the parameters considered in this study.
