ABSTRACT: The development of a selection strategy and to obtain a precocious white oat progenies, homogeneous for flowering and with additions to panicle grain mass, reconciled to environmental stimuli controlled by air temperature. The experiment was conducted in the municipality of Augusto Pestana, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. The experimental design was in augmented blocks with intermediate control, the regular treatments corresponded to 238 white oat progenies and the common treatment was represented by the commercial control (URS Taura) arranged in three replications. The selection for grains weight per panicle, percentage of flowered plants, days to physiological maturity and accumulation of degrees day are due to a high genetic contribution, which indicated promising selection for these characters already in initial breeding generations. The accumulation of degrees days for physiological maturity defines that 41.94% of the progenies are selected as precocious. The genotype ideotype distance index (MGIDI) selected 20% of the white oat progenies with greater flowering uniformity, less accumulation of degrees days and high potential for grain mass per panicle. RESUMO: O objetivo deste trabalho foi desenvolver uma estratégia de seleção e obter progênies de aveia branca precoces, homogêneas para o florescimento e com acréscimos a massa de grãos da panícula, conciliados aos estímulos ambientais controlados pela temperatura do ar. O experimento foi conduzido no município de Augusto Pestana, no estado do Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil. O delineamento experimental de blocos aumentados com testemunha intercalar, os tratamentos regulares correspondem a 238 progênies de aveia branca e o tratamento comum foi representado pela testemunha comercial (URS Taura) disposta em três repetições. A seleção para peso de grãos por panícula, porcentagem de plantas floridas, dias para maturidade fisiológica e acúmulo de graus-dia devem-se a uma alta contribuição genética, o que indica uma seleção promissora para esses caracteres já nas gerações iniciais de melhoramento. RESUMO Este estudo analisou um biomaterial substituto ósseo recentemente desenvolvido feito de óxido de quitosana- xantana-hidroxiapatita-grafeno (CXHAG). As partículas CXHAG observaram caracterização estrutural e morfológica in vitro. Foi testado in vivo, com ou sem meio condicionado osteogênico de células-tronco mesenquimais. Objetivo O objetivo deste estudo foi determinar se o novo biomaterial CXHAG, suplementado com meio condicionado de células-tronco mesenquimais, poderia ser útil para a regeneração óssea. Materiais e Método Para o estudo in vitro, as células foram incubadas com 20mg de grânulos de CXHAG por 24 horas e foi realizado ensaio de MTT para verificar a citotoxicidade. Para o estudo in vivo, foram criados defeitos ósseos de tamanho crítico na calvária em vinte e cinco ratos. Um animal teve o defeito não preenchido (Grupo Controle – GC) e foi eutanasiado após 42 dias. Doze ratos receberam as partículas CXHAG (Grupo 1 – G1) e os outros doze receberam as partículas CXHAG suplementadas com o meio condicionado (Grupo 2 – G2). Todos os enxertos G1/G2 foram cobertos com membrana CXHAG. Os animais do G1/G2 foram eutanasiados após 14 dias (T1) ou 42 dias (T2). Os espécimes foram processados e avaliados histologicamente. Resultados A análise SEM das partículas CXHAG mostrou grânulos de 300-400μm, com superfície áspera e irregular. Eles não foram citotóxicos para células-tronco da polpa dentária in vitro. As amostras CG mostraram tecido conjuntivo imaturo frouxo e nenhuma formação óssea no centro do defeito. G1 e G2 apresentaram partículas remanescentes de biomateriais em ambos os momentos, mas apenas G2 apresentou formação óssea no centro do defeito. Conclusões O meio condicionado teve repercussões positivas na regeneração óssea em defeitos críticos de calvária de ratos quando associado ao novo biomaterial substituto ósseo.

ABSTRACT This study analyzed a recently developed bone substitute biomaterial made of chitosan-xanthanhydroxyapatite- graphene oxide (CXHAG). The CXHAG particles underwent in vitro structural and morphological characterization, and in vivo testing with or without osteogenic conditioned medium from mesenchymal stem cells. Aim The aim of this study was to determine whether the CXHAG novel biomaterial, supplemented with conditioned medium from mesenchymal stem cells, could be useful for bone regeneration. Materials and Method For the in vitro study, cells were incubated with 20mg of CXHAG granules for 24 hours and a MTT assay was performed to tests for cytotoxicity. For the in vivo study, critical size calvarial bone defects were created in twenty-five rats. One animal had the defect unfilled (Control Group–CG) and was euthanized after 42 days. Twelve rats received the CXHAG particles (Group 1–G1) and the other twelve received the CXHAG particles supplemented with the conditioned medium (Group 2–G2). All G1/G2 grafts were covered with a CXHAG membrane. G1/G2 animals were euthanized after 14 days (T1) or 42 days (T2). The specimens were processed and histologically evaluated. Results SEM analysis of the CXHAG particles showed granules of 300-400μm, with a rough irregular surface. They were not cytotoxic to dental pulp stem cells in vitro. The CG specimen showed loose immature connective tissue and no bone formation at the center of the defect. G1 and G2 presented remnant biomaterial particles at both time points, but only G2 had bone formation at the center of the defect. Conclusions The conditioned medium had a positive effect on bone regeneration in rat calvarial critical size defects when associated with the novel bone substitute biomaterial.

Abstract The informal caregiver provides non-remunerated permanent or regular care to dependent older adults. This qualitative study aimed to identify the perceptions of informal caregivers about motivations, needs, and benefits of caring for dependent older adults. It was conducted with ten Portuguese informal caregivers, based on an instrument with questions about the care provided to older adults and their perceptions about performing this role. The results revealed the following motivations for care: proximity and trust relationship, duty of care, more available family members, home proximity, lack of vacancies, high cost of shelter institutions, and older adults’ desire to remain in their homes. The primary care activities for older adults are hydration, hygiene, food, therapeutic administration, companionship, emotional support, comfort, entertainment, and promoting autonomy and dignity. The needs identified by the caregivers were home, social security, and the caregiver’s employer support, financial help, psychological support, and training to care for the older adults. Resumo O cuidador informal presta cuidados permanentes ou regulares a pessoas idosas em situação de dependência, sem remuneração. Objetivou-se identificar as percepções de cuidadores informais sobre motivações, necessidades e benefícios do cuidado ao idoso dependente. Estudo qualitativo realizado com 10 cuidadoras informais portuguesas, a partir de um instrumento com questões sobre o cuidado prestado ao idoso e suas percepções sobre o exercício dessa função. Os resultados revelaram como motivações para o cuidado: relação de proximidade e confiança, dever de cuidar, familiar mais disponível, proximidade da residência, inexistência de vagas e elevado custo das instituições de acolhimento e desejo do idoso permanecer na sua habitação. Os principais cuidados aos idosos são: hidratação, higiene, alimentação, administração terapêutica, companhia, apoio emocional, conforto, entretenimento, promoção da autonomia e dignidade. Abstract The aim of this work was to carry out a bibliometric research on cycling and the built environment of urban areas among the articles found in the Web of Science database in order to gather information on the main works related to these themes on urban mobility. A total of 849 works were found, published between 1998 and 2021, involving 2,263 authors and 178 sources. The main authors on the topics are from the USA, China, Canada, Australia and Belgium. It was observed that most of the most relevant works on the subject have in common the relationship between health, physical activity, cycling, transport and urban environment. As for the most relevant journals, the “Transportation Research Record” stands out as the most relevant within the analyzed themes. It is observed that the subject, although emerging, has not been published by indexed journals in Latin America, with the exception of the journal “ReHuSo - Revista de Ciencias Humanísticas y Sociales” which recorded scientific production.

Resumen O objetivo do trabalho foi realizar uma pesquisa bibliométrica sobre ciclismo e o ambiente construído das áreas urbanas dentre os artigos encontrados na base de dados Web of Science a fim de se levantar informações sobre os principais trabalhos relacionados a estes temas sobre mobilidade urbana. Encontrou-se 849 trabalhos, publicados entre 1998 e 2021, envolvendo 2.263 autores e 178 fontes. Os principais autores sobre os temas são dos E.U.A., China, Canadá, Austrália e Bélgica. Observou-se que a maioria dos trabalhos mais relevantes sobre o assunto possuem em comum a relação entre os temas saúde, atividade física, ciclismo, transporte e ambiente urbano. Quanto aos periódicos mais relevantes, destaca-se o “Transportation Research Record” como o mais relevante dentro dos temas analisados. Observa-se que o assunto, apesar de emergente, não tem sido publicado por periódicos indexados da América Latina, com a exceção da Revista “ReHuSo - Revista de Ciencias Humanísticas y Sociales”que registrou produção científica.

Studying indigenous languages is, in a way, supporting the current social and political causes of native peoples. The article aims to discuss the concept of usage according to the linguistic thought of José de Anchieta (1534-1597), based on the text Arte de gramática da língua mais usado na costa do Brasil (Anchieta, 1990 [1595]). The term usage (uso) is documented at va-rious points in his grammar, which describes the Tupinambá language used in the intercultural catechesis activities of the 16th-century Portuguese America. The theoretical and methodolo-gical foundation employed in the research is Historiography of Linguistics, following the mo-del of Konrad Koerner (2014) and Pierre Swiggers (2019; Batista, 2019), aiming to investigate Anchieta's linguistic thought. The investigation's outcome reveals the relationship between the missionary's use of the term usage and theological-philosophical and grammatical conceptions that influenced his thinking. This demonstrates the prevalent linguistic thought in the missionary policy of 16th-century Portuguese America, within which his grammatical work is situated.

Estudar as línguas indígenas é, de certa forma, apoiar as causas sociais e políticas atuais dos povos originários. O artigo tem como objetivo debater o conceito de uso segundo o pensamento linguístico de José de Anchieta (1534-1597), a partir do texto Arte de gramática da língua mais usado na costa do Brasil (Anchieta, 1990 [1595]). O termo uso é registrado em diversos momentos em sua gramática que descreve a língua tupinambá empregada nas atividades de catequese intercultural da América portuguesa quinhentista. A fundamentação teórico-metodológica a ser empregada na pesquisa é a Historiografia da Linguística, conforme o modelo de Konrad Koerner (2014) e Pierre Swiggers (2019; Batista, 2019), em que temos como escopo a investigação do pensamento linguístico (linguistic thought) de Anchieta. Como resultado da investigação, encontramos a relação do emprego do termo uso na obra do missionário com concepções teológico-filosóficas e gramaticais que influíram em seu pensamento, o que denota o pensamento linguístico vigente na política missionária da América portuguesa do século XVI, em que a sua obra gramatical se situa.

RESUMO: Objetivou-se estimar o crescimento corporal, carcaça, cortes nobres, vísceras comestíveis e penas de codornas japonesas criadas em dois ambientes térmicos e alimentadas com três planos nutricionais de um a 39 dias. Foram utilizadas 576 pintainhas (Coturnix japônica), fêmeas, com um dia de idade, com peso médio inicial 7,51 ± 0,75g/ave, distribuídas em delineamento inteiramente casualizado em esquema fatorial 3 × 2 (três planos nutricionais x duas temperaturas), alojadas em duas câmaras climáticas de 25º e 35 ºC, com 12 repetições e oito aves por unidade experimental. Os planos nutricionais foram: plano nutricional um (PN1) - uma dieta de 1-21 dias e uma dieta de 22-39 dias; plano nutricional dois (PN2) - uma dieta de 1-14 dias e uma dieta de 15-39 dias; e plano nutricional três (PN3) - dieta única de 1-39 dias. Foram avaliadas as curvas e taxas de crescimento corporal, carcaça, cortes nobres, penas e vísceras comestíveis, através do modelo matemático de Gompertz. ABSTRACT: This study estimated the growth of body, carcass, primal cuts, edible offal, and feathers of Japanese quail reared in two thermal environments, receiving three nutritional plans, from one to 39 days of age. A total of 576 one-day-old female chicks (Coturnix japonica) with an average initial weight of 7.51±0.75g/bird were evaluated in a completely randomized design with a 3 × 2 factorial arrangement (three nutritional plans × two temperatures). The animals were housed in two climatic chambers, at 25 ºC and 35 ºC, using 12 replications with eight birds per experimental unit. Nutritional plans (NP) were as follows: NP1: one diet from 1-21days and another from 22-39 days; NP2: one diet from 1-14 days and another from 15-39 days; and NP3: a single diet from 1-39 days. The growth curves and growth rates of body, carcass, primal cuts, feathers, and edible offal were evaluated using the Gompertz mathematical model. Quail fed NP3 showed higher growth curves and rates for body, carcass, drumstick +thigh, and feather. There was an effect on maturity rate, which was lowest in quail housed at 35 ºC. ABSTRACT Luis Tavares revolutionized cardiac surgery, always bringing the most modern instruments and equipment from his travels to England - surgical forceps, scissors, scalpels, etc. He always insisted that he was not just a thoracic surgeon, for his work extended over a wide field and created three important cardiac surgery centers which promoted a great development of cardiology. RESUMO: Este estudo teve como objetivo avaliar o efeito do período de co-alimentação (C) no crescimento e sobrevivência de larvas da espécie ornamental Botia lohachata durante o período de desmame de alimento vivo (LF) para alimento inerte (IF). Os reprodutores foram submetidos à desova induzida com homogeneizado de hipófise. Foram utilizadas 2.400 larvas com peso inicial médio de 0,39 ± 0,09 mg e comprimento total médio de 4,08 ± 0,21 mm, de um único casal reprodutor. O alimento vivo foi náuplios recém-eclodidos de Artemia franciscana, e a dieta inerte foi uma ração comercial com 55% de proteína bruta e dois tamanhos de partículas (142-350 µm e 350-500 µm). Como primeiro alimento, todas as larvas receberam A. franciscana durante os primeiros seis dias, exceto os grupos jejum (NC) e alimento inerte (IF). ABSTRACT: This study evaluated the effect of the co-feeding (C) period on the growth and survival of larvae of the yo-yo loach Botia lohachata ornamental species during the weaning period from live food (LF) to inert food (IF). The breeders were subjected to induced spawning using crude pituitary homogenate. A total of 2,400 larvae were used with an average initial weight of 0.39 ± 0.09 mg and an average total length of 4.08 ± 0.21 mm, from a single breeding pair. The live food was newly hatched nauplii of Artemia franciscana, and the inert diet was a commercial ration with 55% crude protein and two particle sizes (142-350 µm and 350-500 µm). As the first food, all larvae received A. franciscana during the first six days, except for the fasting (NC) and inert food (IF) groups. The following co-feeding strategies were employed: C4 = 4 days of co-feeding, C8 = 8 days of co-feeding, C12 = 12 days of co-feeding, and LF = Artemia during the entire experimental period. The longest period with live food promoted better larval growth rates. The specific growth rate of larvae fed live food during the entire period (LF) was higher than that of the other groups, followed by the co-feeding strategies. Resumo Objetivo: Analisar o primeiro serviço de referência em doenças raras credenciado pelo Ministério da Saúde, com foco no encaminhamento desde a rede primária até o diagnóstico. Métodos: Trata-se de um estudo descritivo com pacientes atendimentos entre 2016 e 2021 em serviço hospitalar de referência localizado de Curitiba. Dados clínicos e epidemiológicos foram obtidos de registros médicos e os resultados de exames genéticos do laboratório de análises clínicas do hospital. Dados qualitativos foram expressos como frequência absoluta e relativa, e os quantitativos por mediana e intervalo interquartil e comparados pelo teste Kruskal-Wallis. Resultados: Foram incluídos 1.751 pacientes, 34,1% obtiveram diagnóstico de doenças raras, com tempo médio de 3,0 anos, sendo a mucopolissacaridose tipo II (4,0%) e esclerose tuberal (3,9%) as mais frequentes. Maior tempo até obter diagnóstico (p-valor 0,004) e atendimento especializado (p-valor<0,001) foram observados em pacientes do interior do Paraná, em comparação com aqueles que residem em Curitiba e região metropolitana. Conclusão: O diagnóstico de doenças raras ocorreu em cerca de um terço dos casos. O tempo médio até o diagnóstico sugere possível impacto positivo da implementação do serviço de referência. Maior tempo até o diagnóstico e atendimento especializado observado em pacientes do interior do Paraná representam desafios no encaminhamento adequado para unidades especializadas.

Resumen Objetivo: Analizar el primer servicio de referencia de enfermedades raras acreditado por el Ministerio de Salud, centrándose en la derivación desde la red primaria al diagnóstico. Métodos: Se trata de un estudio descriptivo con pacientes atendidos entre 2016 y 2021 en un servicio hospitalario de referencia ubicado en Curitiba, Paraná, Brasil. Los datos clínicos y epidemiológicos se obtuvieron de los registros médicos y de los resultados de las pruebas genéticas del laboratorio de análisis clínicos del hospital. Los datos cualitativos se expresaron como frecuencias absolutas y relativas, y los datos cuantitativos como mediana y rango intercuartílico y se compararon mediante la prueba de Kruskal-Wallis. Resultados: Se incluyeron 1.751 pacientes, el 34,1% fueron diagnosticados con enfermedades raras, con un tiempo promedio de 3,0 años, siendo las más frecuentes la mucopolisacaridosis tipo II (4,0%) y la esclerosis tuberosa (3,9%). Se observó mayor tiempo para obtener el diagnóstico (valor de p-valor 0,004) y atención especializada (valor de p-valor<0,001) en los pacientes del interior de Paraná, en comparación con los residentes en Curitiba y la región metropolitana. Conclusión: El diagnóstico de enfermedades raras se produjo en aproximadamente un tercio de los casos. El tiempo medio hasta el diagnóstico sugiere un posible impacto positivo de la implementación del servicio de referencia. El mayor tiempo hasta el diagnóstico y la atención especializada observados en pacientes del interior de Paraná representan desafíos en la adecuada derivación a unidades especializadas.

Abstract Objective: To analyze the first referral service for rare diseases accredited by the Brazilian Ministry of Health, focusing on referral from the primary healthcare network through to diagnosis. Methods: This is a descriptive study with patients treated between 2016 and 2021 at a referral hospital service located in Curitiba, Paraná, Brazil. Clinical and epidemiological data were obtained from medical records, as were the results of genetic tests at the hospital’s clinical analysis laboratory. Qualitative data were expressed as absolute and relative frequencies, while quantitative data were expressed as medians and interquartile ranges and compared using the Kruskal-Wallis test. Results: The study included 1,751 cases, 34.1% were diagnosed with rare diseases, with average time until diagnosis being 3.0 years, whereby mucopolysaccharidosis type II (4.0%) and tuberous sclerosis (3.9%) were the most common. Greater length of time for obtaining diagnosis (p-value 0.004) and receiving specialized care (p-value<0.001) was found in patients from the interior region of Paraná state, compared to those residing in Curitiba city and its metropolitan region. Conclusion: Diagnosis of rare diseases occurred in approximately one third of cases. The average time until diagnosis suggests a possible positive impact of implementing the referral service. The longer time until diagnosis and specialized care found among patients from the interior region of Paraná represent challenges regarding adequate referral to specialized services.

ABSTRACT There is a growing need for intervention in existing structures to recover or increase strength capacity. The use of composite materials, such as carbon fiber, has been efficient, but cost is an obstacle. The application of steel bars as a strengthening element is an alternative and technically viable material, but there are few studies in the literature. This work carried out an experimental series with three reinforced concrete beams without transverse reinforcement, and strengthened in shear with steel bars using the near-surface mounted (NSM) technique. The load, displacement and cracking pattern were monitored in the experiment. The results demonstrated the efficiency of the strengthening with an increase of 69% in the ultimate load and 63% in the load for the appearance of the first cracks compared to the reference beam. The strengthening also increased the ductility of the beams before sudden shear failure. Numerical models via the finite element method (FEM) were carried out in the ABAQUS software using different elements and meshes. The numerical results were validated with the experimental results, and it was observed that the use of quadratic elements compared to linear elements can better represent the cracking pattern and the load capacity of the beams. RESUMO Há uma necessidade crescente de intervenção nas estruturas de concreto armado existentes para recuperar ou aumentar a sua capacidade resistente. O uso de materiais compósitos, como a fibra de carbono, tem sido eficiente, mas o custo ainda é um entrave. A aplicação de barras de aço como elemento de reforço apresenta-se como material alternativo e tecnicamente viável, porém existem poucos trabalhos na literatura. Desse modo, este trabalho realizou uma série experimental com três vigas de concreto armado sem armadura transversal, e reforçadas ao cisalhamento com barras de aço utilizando a técnica near-surface mounted (NSM). Foram monitorados no experimento a carga, o deslocamento e o padrão de fissuração. Os resultados demonstraram a eficiência do reforço com aumento de 69% da carga última e 63% da carga para surgimento das primeiras fissuras comparados a viga de referência. O reforço também aumentou a ductibilidade das vigas antes da ruptura brusca por cisalhamento. Abstract The adaptations of plants to different environments are closely related to their wood anatomical traits. This study investigated the wood anatomy of a montane forest community and compared it with anatomical data from three other areas in the Atlantic Forest biome (montane and lowland forest). Samples from 23 montane forest species were processed and analyzed according to standard wood anatomy techniques. Quantitative xylem traits were measured and conductivity parameters were calculated. Wood anatomical data for 76 species from other areas were obtained from previous studies and incorporated into the analyses. Shared wood features indicated ecological trends related to the forest formations. Species of the sampled montane forest were discriminated into groups based on their qualitative and quantitative features, especially those related to ray and xylem conduction traits. Hydraulic traits were also important for distinguishing forest communities along the altitudinal gradient. The montane forest communities had lower conductivity and higher hydraulic safety than the lowland forest community. Resumo As adaptações das plantas aos diferentes ambientes estão intimamente relacionadas aos atributos anatômicos da madeira. Este estudo investigou a anatomia da madeira de uma comunidade de floresta montana e comparou-a com dados anatômicos de outras três áreas do bioma Mata Atlântica (floresta montana e floresta de terras baixas). Amostras de 23 espécies da floresta montana foram processadas e analisadas de acordo com técnicas padrão de anatomia da madeira. Atributos quantitativos do xilema foram medidos e parâmetros de condutividade foram calculados. Dados anatômicos da madeira de 76 espécies de outras áreas foram obtidos de estudos anteriores e incorporados às análises. As características compartilhadas da madeira indicaram tendências ecológicas relacionadas às formações florestais. ABSTRACT BACKGROUND: Umbilical and epigastric hernias are among the most common hernias of the abdominal wall; however, there is a lack of standardization for their treatment. AIMS: To clarify the controversies regarding therapeutic possibilities, indications, and surgical techniques for umbilical and epigastric hernia repair. METHODS: A systematic review and qualitative analysis of randomized clinical trials published in the last 20 years, involving adults (aged 18 years and over) with umbilical and/or epigastric hernias, was performed by systematically searching the PubMed/Medline, Cochrane, SciELO, and LILACS databases. The risk of bias in individual studies was assessed using the Cochrane Risk of Bias Tool. RESULTS: Initially, 492 studies were selected and, subsequently, 15 randomized controlled clinical trials were chosen that met the inclusion criteria and underwent full reading and qualitative analysis, considering possible bias. CONCLUSIONS: This review concluded that it is evident the superiority of the use of meshes in the repair of epigastric/primary umbilical hernias with a defect larger than 1 cm, even in certain emergency situations. However, suture repair is a good option for patients with a defect smaller than 1 cm. In the laparoscopic approach, recent evidence points towards possible superiority in fixation with fibrin sealant, and fascial defect closure is recommended. In addition, due to a scarcity of randomized controlled trials with low risk of bias, further studies are needed on types, positioning and fixation techniques, as well as the real role of video-assisted laparoscopic surgery in the correction of hernias, especially umbilical. RESUMO RACIONAL: As hérnias umbilicais e epigástricas estão entre as hérnias mais comuns da parede abdominal, porém falta padronização em relação ao seu tratamento. OBJETIVOS: Esclarecer as controvérsias acerca das possibilidades terapêuticas, indicações e técnicas cirúrgicas relacionadas ao tratamento das hérnias umbilicais e epigástricas. MÉTODOS: Foi realizada revisão sistemática e análise qualitativa dos estudos publicados nos últimos 20 anos, envolvendo indivíduos maiores de 18 anos com hérnias umbilicais e/ou epigástricas, por meio de busca nas bases de dados PubMed/Medline, Cochrane, LILACS e SciELO, sendo selecionados estudos do tipo ensaios clínicos randomizados controlados para análise. Foi determinado o risco de viés de cada estudo individualmente de acordo com a ferramenta Cochrane Risk of Bias Tool. ABSTRACT. Salt stress is a major abiotic factor limiting plant growth worldwide, particularly in arid and semiarid regions where excessive groundwater use in irrigation leads to high salt concentrations. To address this issue, this study investigated the efficacy of silicon, either alone or in combination with Trichoderma harzianum and organic matter, in mitigating salt stress in forage sorghum. The experiment took place in a saline Fluvisol in Parnamirim, a semiarid region of Pernambuco, Brazil, and followed a randomized block design with five treatments and four replicates: sorghum (control); sorghum + Si; sorghum + Si + OM (organic matter); sorghum + Si + T (T. harzianum); and sorghum + Si + T + OM. Sorghum plants were assessed over three cycles (initial cut and two regrowths) from June 2021 to April 2022. The combined treatments of Si + OM, Si + T, and Si + T + OM increased plant growth by 42.17, 35.49, and 27.51%, respectively, compared to the control. Similarly, these treatments led to biomass accumulation gains of 39.42, 40.44, and 31.77% in sorghum plants relative to the control. Silicon alone did not yield significant growth or biomass accumulation improvements. The application of silicon in conjunction with T. harzianum and/or organic matter shows promise in enhancing forage sorghum growth under saline stress conditions in semiarid regions.
