RESUMO: No Brasil, a ureia é o fertilizante nitrogenado mais utilizado para melhorar a produção de forragem. No entanto, seu uso excessivo pode causar impactos ambientais por meio de perdas de nitrogênio (N), como a volatilização da amônia (NH3). Portanto, o objetivo do presente estudo foi ajustar a volatilização de NH3 da ureia aplicada em pastos tropicais em três condições de chuva utilizando modelos matemáticos. Dados foram coletados de pastos de capim-marandu (Brachiaria brizantha) adubado com 50 kg N ha-1 em condições úmidas, intermediárias e secas. A volatilização da NH3 foi medida em cinco câmaras semiabertas durante 21 dias. Os modelos, linear, quadrático, exponencial, Gompertz, Groot e Richards foram testados para ajuste e estimativa da volatilização do NH3. Os modelos de Gompertz, Groot e Richards geraram predições semelhantes aos dados observados, com alto coeficiente de determinação, indicando um melhor ajuste dessas equações aos dados, com acurácia e precisão. No entanto, o modelo Groot foi selecionado devido ao menor erro quadrático médio das predições (0,29% de N total perdido como NH3). A maior volatilização de NH3 ocorreu em condições climáticas úmida, seguido por intermediária e seca (20,2; 17,0 e 11,3% de N total perdido como NH3, respectivamente). Portanto, as perdas de N como volatilização de NH3 após a aplicação de 50 kg N ha-1, como fonte de ureia, são alteradas de acordo com as condições climáticas, atingindo a 20% do N adicionado nas condições úmidas. ABSTRACT: In Brazil, urea is the most used nitrogen (N) fertilizer to improve forage production. However, their excessive use can cause environmental impacts through N losses, such as ammonia (NH3) volatilization. Therefore, the current study adjusted and estimated the NH3 volatilization from urea applied on tropical pastures in three rainfall conditions using mathematical models. Data were collected from Marandu grass (Brachiaria brizantha) fertilized with 50 kg N ha-1 during wet, intermediate, and dry conditions. Ammonia volatilization was measured in five semi-open chambers for 21 days. The linear, quadratic, exponential, Gompertz, Groot, and Richards models were tested for fitting and estimating the NH3 volatilization. The Gompertz, Groot, and Richards models generated predictions similar to the observed data, with a high determination coefficient, indicating a better fit of these equations to data, with precision and accuracy. However, the Groot model was selected due to the lowest root mean square error of prediction (0.29 % total N lost as NH3). The greatest N loss as NH3 volatilization occurred in the wet, followed by intermediate and dry conditions (20.2, 17.0, and 11.3 % total N lost as NH3, respectively). ABSTRACT The objectives of this study were to estimate genetic parameters and the repeatability coefficient and to select clones of elephant grass from full-sib families. Fifteen clones and two commercial controls were evaluated in a randomized block design with three replications. Three measurements were taken at regular 10-month intervals. Genotypic variance was significant. The observed heritability based on the mean of the genotypes (0.58), coupled with the results of repeatability (0.53) and selection accuracy (0.76), demonstrates that the genotypes performance is constant between measurements. Thus, only three measurements are necessary to reliably select genotypes and obtain real genetic gains with selection. Objective: The risk of suicide is higher among health care workers than other workers. This study investigated the association between social support and suicidal ideation and behavior during the COVID-19 pandemic among Brazilian health care workers. Methods: This study used data from 10,885 respondents to the first (time point 1 – between May and June of 2020) and second (time point 2 – between December 2020 and February 2021) cross-sectional online surveys about mental health and quality of life among Brazilian health care workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. The relationship between social support as the independent variable (time point 1) and suicidal ideation and behavior as the outcomes (time point 2) was investigated through logistic regression analysis. Results: Greater social support was associated with a significantly lower risk of reporting suicidal ideation and behavior in the month prior to follow-up assessment (adjusted OR: 0.71, 95%CI 0.66-0.76 and adjusted OR 0.61, 95%CI 0.54-0.68, respectively). These associations were independent of sex, age, feelings of loneliness, and self-reported psychiatric disorders. Conclusion: Social support is associated with a lower risk of suicidality among health care workers, and its protective role appears more closely related to suicidal behavior. ABSTRACT The use of Stizolobium aterrimum (velvet bean) as green manure has been encouraged in agriculture as a source of nitrogen-rich phytomass for incorporation into the soil to enhance subsequent crop yield. The nitrogen-fixing capacity of this legume can be optimized through symbiosis with selected strains of rhizobia. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of new strains of Bradyrhizobium in promoting the growth of velvet bean plants, both in potted soil and in the field. The study involved three experiments (two in pots and one in the field) with four replications of each in an Oxisol. An additional experiment was carried out to estimate the native rhizobial community in the experimental soil. The efficiency of the strains was estimated by compared plant growth with them to plant growth in two non-inoculated controls (one without mineral N and the other with mineral N) and plant growth with the strain BR2811, which is approved as an inoculant for velvet bean plants. Evaluations of velvet bean were performed at 60 and 100 days after emergence in non-sterile soil pots, and at 170 days after sowing (at flowering) in the field. Native rhizobia are efficient in symbiosis with velvet bean, as they were similar to BR2811 and to the control with mineral N, but they had lower biological nitrogen fixation efficiency than the new strains tested–UFLA05-18 and UFLA05-20. SUMMARY OBJECTIVE: To compare the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) and Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) tests for the identification of cognitive deficit (CD) in elderly patients with heart failure (HF). METHODS: This was a cross-sectional study with an observational design involving 43 elderly patients with HF of both sexes, treated by the Unified Health System, who were able to understand and follow the study instructions. A sociodemographic and clinical questionnaire and the MMSE and MoCA neurocognitive tests were applied. RESULTS: The mean age of the patients was 67 years; 67.44% were male; 53.49% were white; 58.14% had 1–4 years of schooling; 58.14% had an income of half to one minimum wage; 55.81% were married; 53.49% had a family history of HF; 90.7% denied smoking; 83.72% denied alcohol intake; 65.12% did not practice physical activity; 83.72% were hypertensive; 30.23% were diabetic; 57.89% had LVEF ≥ 50%; 39.53% have NYHA II; and 88.37% did not have a pacemaker. In the identification of CD, the MMSE test detected it in 25.58% of the patients, while the MoCA test identified it in 23.26% (p=0.043). RESUMO Objetivo: Este artigo visa analisar como os eventos político-econômicos afetaram o mercado de capitais brasileiro ao longo de 13 anos, avaliando os retornos anormais das cinco ações mais líquidas (Top-5). Originalidade/valor: Este estudo avança sobre pesquisas anteriores ao analisar vários eventos político-econômicos ocorridos ao longo de 13 anos que impactaram, em alguma medida, os preços de empresas listadas na Bolsa de Valores Brasileira. Considerando evidências favoráveis e contrárias à Hipótese de Eficiência de Mercado (HEM), esta pesquisa oferece um teste original e robusto para avaliar a eficiência de mercado, considerando diversos eventos e empresas. Design/metodologia/abordagem: Utilizamos a técnica de estudo de eventos para medir o impacto de cada evento nos preços das ações utilizando o dia que precede e que sucede o evento analisado. ABSTRACT Purpose: This study analyzes how political-economic events have affected the Brazilian capital market over 13 years by evaluating the abnormal returns of the five most liquid stocks (Top-5). Originality/value: This research proceeds from previous studies by analyzing various political-economic events that impacted, to some extent, the prices of companies listed on the Brazilian Stock Exchange over 13 years. Considering both favorable and opposing evidence to the efficient market hypothesis (EMH), this study provides an original and robust test to evaluate market efficiency, considering various events and companies. Design/methodology/approach: We used the event study methodology to measure the impact of each event on stock prices by using the day before and after the event analyzed. We performed capital asset pricing model (CAPM) estimations with 110 observations before the event to assess abnormal returns. To assess the research hypotheses, we used the average abnormal return test around the event (Window – 1.1). Findings: We found that the five major companies in the Brazilian stock market were efficient in the EMH semi-strong form test despite 13 years of extreme events. Their returns did not change significantly after the events, differentiating themselves from studies that question market efficiency. Resumo O objetivo deste trabalho foi verificar se o D-limoneno apresenta ação inibitória sobre o crescimento micelial de Colletotrichum spp. e atividade antimicrobiana contra Enterococcus faecium e Escherichia coli, bem como avaliar o efeito de suas concentrações na desinfestação do mamão no processo de pós-colheita. Para os testes in vitro, os fungos foram isolados de mamões infectados com antracnose. Para tanto, pedaços dos frutos foram desinfestados e transferidos para placas de Petri. Outro teste foi realizado in vitro para avaliação da atividade bactericida, tendo-se adicionado D-limoneno à suspensão de bactérias em teste. Foram avaliadas a qualidade físico-química dos frutos e a incidência de doenças. A aplicação de D-limoneno inibiu o crescimento micelial de Colletotrichum spp. in vitro, com efeito crescente com o aumento da concentração aplicada e efeito decrescente com o tempo da aplicação do produto. O D-limoneno foi eficaz na inibição de E. faecium e E. coli. Não houve interação significativa entre as doses de D-limoneno e o tempo de armazenamento quanto à qualidade dos frutos e à incidência de doenças nos estudos ex vitro. Abstract The objective of this work was to verify if D-limonene in vitro presents inhibitory action on the mycelial growth of Colletotrichum spp. and antimicrobial activity against Enterococcus faecium and Escherichia coli, as well as to evaluate the effect of its concentrations on papaya disinfestation in the post-harvest process. For the in vitro tests, fungi were isolated from papaya fruit infected with anthracnose. For this, fruit fragments were disinfected and transferred to Petri dishes. Another test was carried out in vitro, to evaluate bactericidal activity, by for adding D-limonene to the suspension of the tested bacteria. Fruit physicochemical quality and disease incidence were evaluated. The application of D-limonene inhibited the mycelial growth of Colletotrichum spp. in vitro, with an increasing effect at increasing concentrations and a decreasing effect with time of product application. D-limonene was effective in inhibiting E. faecium and E. coli. There was no significant interaction between D-limonene rates and storage time for fruit quality or for disease incidence in ex vitro studies. Abstract The threatened orchid Cattleya milleri is a microendemic orchid of a Brazilian savanna hotspot. As endophytes and mycorrhizae may improve its propagation and conservation, we investigated its root fungal community. Cattleya milleri roots were sampled in five natural sites and at a greenhouse. Fungal root endophytes were isolated for characterization and molecular ITS (Internal Transcribed Spacer) identification. Total DNA was extracted from endorhiza and rhizosphere for ITS amplification and sequencing. Sixteen fungal isolates were clustered in 6 Operational Taxonomic Units (OTUs) and endorhizal and rhizospheric sequences were clustered in 327 OTUs. Endorhiza presented from 25 to 89 OTUs, and rhizosphere 56 OTUs. Cluster analysis showed high divergence between natural and greenhouse fungal communities, but similarity among natural samples. From the 94 genera, 24 were annotated as endophytes, two mycorrhizas, 33 pathotrophs, 40 saprotrophs, and 17 symbiotrophs based on the FunGuild database. Endophytes of the orders Capnodiales, Hypocreales, Pleosporales, and mycorrhizae of Sebacinales occurred in all sites. The mycorrhizae Tulasnella occurred in all natural samples. The interaction with only two mycorrhizal taxa may limit C. milleri distribution. However, the recruitment of many non-mycorrhizal endophytes is essential to natural development. Resumo Fundamento: O Brasil é um país com diferentes biomas e desigualdades sociais. Existem poucos dados disponíveis sobre as diferenças regionais e o prognóstico da insuficiência cardíaca (IC) no país. Objetivo: O estudo Rosa dos Ventos tem como objetivo investigar as diferenças regionais e o prognóstico atual de pacientes com IC com fração de ejeção reduzida ou moderadamente reduzida no Brasil. Métodos: Este é um estudo prospectivo, multicêntrico, observacional, do tipo coorte que incluirá pacientes ambulatoriais com idade superior a 18 anos com IC e fração de ejeção < 50% em 30 centros privados distribuídos nas regiões brasileiras. Um total de 2500 pacientes serão incluídos entre junho de 2021 e outubro de 2023, com um período de 12 meses de seguimento. Coletaremos dados sobre status clínico e socioeconômico, prescrição médica e resultados de exames cardiológicos. Abstract Background: Brazil is a country with different biomes and social disparities. There are limited data available on regional differences and prognosis of heart failure (HF) in the country. Objective: The Rosa dos Ventos study aims to investigate regional differences and the current prognosis of HF outpatients with reduced or mildly reduced ejection fraction in Brazil. Methods: This is a prospective, multicenter, observational cohort study that will include outpatients older than 18 years with HF and an ejection fraction < 50% in 30 public and private centers distributed in all Brazilian regions. A total of 2,500 patients will be enrolled from June 2021 and October 2023, with a 12-month follow-up period. We will collect data on socioeconomic and clinical status, medical prescription and results of cardiology tests. Follow-up phone calls will be made at 6 and 12 months after inclusion to collect information regarding emergency room visits, hospitalization and mortality. Resumo Nas últimas décadas, houve avanços significativos no diagnóstico de gliomas difusos, impulsionados pela integração de novas tecnologias. Esses avanços aprofundaram nossa compreensão da oncogênese tumoral, permitindo uma estratificação mais refinada do comportamento biológico dessas neoplasias. Esse progresso culminou na quinta edição da classificação da OMS de tumores do sistema nervoso central (SNC) em 2021. Esta revisão abrangente tem como objetivo elucidar esses avanços de forma multidisciplinar, no contexto da nova classificação. Este artigo irá explorar a patologia morfológica e as técnicas moleculares/genéticas (imuno-histoquímica, sequenciamento genético e perfil de metilação), que são fundamentais no diagnóstico, além da correlação dos radiofenótipos da neuroimagem estrutural com a patologia e a genética. Aborda sucintamente a utilidade da tractografia e da neuroimagem funcional no planejamento cirúrgico. Destacaremos o valor de outras técnicas de imagem funcional, como ressonância magnética de perfusão, espectroscopia e medicina nuclear, na distinção entre a progressão do tumor e as alterações relacionadas ao tratamento. Abstract In recent decades, there have been significant advances in the diagnosis of diffuse gliomas, driven by the integration of novel technologies. These advancements have deepened our understanding of tumor oncogenesis, enabling a more refined stratification of the biological behavior of these neoplasms. This progress culminated in the fifth edition of the WHO classification of central nervous system (CNS) tumors in 2021. This comprehensive review article aims to elucidate these advances within a multidisciplinary framework, contextualized within the backdrop of the new classification. This article will explore morphologic pathology and molecular/genetics techniques (immunohistochemistry, genetic sequencing, and methylation profiling), which are pivotal in diagnosis, besides the correlation of structural neuroimaging radiophenotypes to pathology and genetics. It briefly reviews the usefulness of tractography and functional neuroimaging in surgical planning. Additionally, the article addresses the value of other functional imaging techniques such as perfusion MRI, spectroscopy, and nuclear medicine in distinguishing tumor progression from treatment-related changes. Furthermore, it discusses the advantages of evolving diagnostic techniques in classifying these tumors, as well as their limitations in terms of availability and utilization. Trata-se de uma revisão integrativa da literatura, realizada a partir de pesquisa nos sítios eletrônicos Biblioteca Virtual de Saúde, CINAHL, Medline, Scopus e Web of Science, em junho de 2021. Foram utilizados os descritores: discriminação social ou ageismo; pessoa de meia-idade ou idoso de 80 anos ou mais ou idoso; e serviço de saúde ou serviço de saúde para idosos, incluindo sinônimos, nos idiomas português, inglês e espanhol. A estratégia de busca identificou 1.165 artigos; 19 cumpriram os critérios de elegibilidade e inclusão. O acervo inclui estudos quantitativos e qualitativos publicados entre 2002 e 2021; cerca de 60% realizados nos Estados Unidos e Austrália. A prevalência de discriminação no uso de serviços de saúde variou de 2% a 42%. They comprise quantitative and qualitative studies published between 2002 and 2021; about 60% carried out in the United States and Australia. The prevalence of discrimination in the use of health services ranged from 2% to 42%. The report of discriminatory practices was associated with ethnic-racial characteristics, sex, age, sexual orientation, physical appearance, and social class. By giving visibility to the theme, this work aims to stimulate the definition of concrete ways to tackle discrimination, in an attempt to interrupt the perpetration of inequities in the health care area.

ABSTRACT. This study aimed to perform a strategic diagnosis on a property specialized in breeding, rearing and finishing beef cattle in the southern region of Piauí. It was conducted at Agropecuária Alvorada, located in the countryside, municipality of Bom Jesus, PI, Brazil. The farm develops the full cycle of beef cattle production, which is divided into breeding, rearing and finishing. A SWOT analysis (which stands for Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats) was carried out, consisting of an assessment of the property’s internal and external environments. To evaluate the internal environment, an interview was held for data collection by means of questionnaires. The evaluation included: breeding management, sanitary management, nutritional management, infrastructure, workforce, technologies used in pasture formation, conservation and recovery, pasture management and zootechnical indices. To analyze the external environment, a group of people (experts) with deep knowledge of the subject addressed during the study was used as source of information. A matrix was generated with all the information from the SWOT analysis, strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats, culminating with the establishment of strategies to increase the productive efficiency of the cattle raising activity.

Resumo Objetivos: investigar os fatores de risco sociodemográficos e ocupacionais associados à infeção por COVID-19 em trabalhadores da mineração. Métodos: estudo de coorte retrospectivo com dados secundários dos trabalhadores de uma empresa multinacional de mineração, de março de 2020 a abril de 2021. Casos de COVID-19 foram definidos por meio do resultado do teste reação em cadeia da polimerase (PCR) positivo para SARS-CoV-2. Riscos relativos (RR) para testes positivos foram obtidos por regressão de Poisson. Resultados: dos 10.484 trabalhadores testados, 2.578 (24,6%) tiveram pelo menos um resultado positivo. Foi realizada uma média de 4,0 (desvio-padrão: 3,6) testes para cada trabalhador, totalizando 41.962 testes. A maioria dos trabalhadores eram do sexo masculino (88,3%), com idade entre 30 e 39 anos (38,7%), terceirizados (74,1%) e que não trabalhavam em turnos (70,5%). No modelo múltiplo, os trabalhadores terceirizados (RR: 1,39; intervalo de confiança de 95% [IC95%]: 1,27;1,51) e trabalhadores por turnos (RR: 1,10; IC95%: 1,01;1,20) apresentavam maior risco de infecção quando comparados com seus homólogos. Conclusões: os trabalhadores terceirizados e por turnos exibiram maior risco de infecção pelo SARS-CoV-2 quando comparados com seus homólogos. Portanto, é necessário fornecer monitoramento contínuo com oferta regular e adequada de testes para mitigação e prevenção da COVID-19 nestes grupos ocupacionais. Abstract Objectives: to investigate the sociodemographic and occupational risk factors associated with COVID-19 infection in mining workers. Methods: a retrospective cohort study, using secondary workers’ health data from a multinational mining company, from March 2020 to April 2021. A COVID-19 case was defined based on a SARS-CoV-2 positive result in a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test. Risk ratios (RRs) for positive testing were estimated using Poisson’s regression model. Results: of 10,484 workers, 2,578 (24.6%) had at least one positive result for COVID-19. Each worker underwent an average of 4.0 (standard deviation: 3.6) tests, totaling 41,962 PCR tests. Most of the evaluated workers were male (88.3%), aged from 30 to 39 years (38.7%), outsourced (74.1%) and non-shift workers (70.5%). Our multivariate model showed that outsourced (RR: 1.39; 95% confidence interval [95%CI]: 1.27;1.51) and shift workers (RR: 1.10; 95%CI: 1.01;1.20) had a higher risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection than their counterparts. Conclusions: outsourced and shift workers have a higher risk of COVID-19 infection than their counterparts. Therefore, it is necessary to provide continuous monitoring with regular and adequate testing for mitigation and prevention of COVID-19 in these occupational groups. ABSTRACT The mixed-model methodology is an alternative to select genotypes for traits highly influenced by the environment. In addition, this method allows FOR estimating the repeatability coefficient and predicting the number of assessments needed for a selection process to increase reliability. This study aimed to determine the minimum number of evaluations necessary for a reliable selection process and to estimate the variance components used for predicting genetic gains between and within half-sib families of elephant grass ( Cenchrus purpureus (Schumach.) Morrone ) using the mixed-model methodology. Half-sib families were generated using genotypes from the Active Germplasm Bank of Elephant Grass. The experiment was performed in a randomized block design with nine half-sib families, three replicates, and eight plants per plot. We evaluated 216 genotypes (individual plants) of elephant grass. The deviance analysis was carried out, genetic parameters were estimated, gains between and within families were predicted, and repeatability coefficients were obtained using Selegen software. There was genetic variability for selection within the families evaluated. The reliability values found above 60 % for plant height and number of tillers and above 80 % for dry matter yield suggest that only two evaluations are required to select superior genotypes with outstanding reliability.
