Abstract Objective The current study delves into the accessibility of genetic evaluations for individuals with orofacial clefts (OC), comparing data between genetics and treatment centers across Brazil. Methods This cross-sectional retrospective study analyzed primary data from 1463 OC individuals registered in the Brazilian Database of Craniofacial Anomalies (BDCA) between 2008 and 2018 without age or sex selection. Diagnostic exam results stemming from research projects until 2023 were considered. Results Of the 1463 individuals with typical OC, 987 were non-syndromic, 462 were syndromic (SOC), 10 presented atypical forms, and three were not specified OC cases. The average age for accessing laboratory diagnosis was 8.5 years among SOC individuals. Notably, more SOC cases were registered in genetics centers than treatment and rehabilitation centers (37.1 % vs. 29 %, p = 0.0015). Those originating from genetics centers accessed diagnosis at an average age of 7.3 years, while those from treatment and rehabilitation centers experienced delays with an average age of 10.7 years (p = 0.0581). Conclusions Irrespective of the center of origin, the data highlight delayed diagnosis and challenges in accessing genetic tests for the syndromic group. Given the widespread reliance on the public health system by most of the Brazilian population, disseminating this data can significantly contribute to shaping an informed perspective on healthcare access. Abstract Studies investigating the effects of different modalities of exercises on the immune system are scarce. Therefore, the aim of this study was to compare the effects of eight weeks of resistance and aerobic training on the proliferation of T and B lymphocytes from mice. Eighteen male C56BL6/J mice were divided into groups (n=6), sedentary, aerobic, and resistance training. After 8 weeks, animals were euthanized, and their splenocytes were labeled and cultured with and without stimulation. Lymphocyte proliferation (CD4+, CD8+ and CD21/CD35+) was evaluated by flow cytometry. The mice subjected to resistance exercise exhibited greater proliferation for total, CD8+ and B lymphocytes (p<0.05), but not CD4+ cells (p>0.05), compared with their sedentary counterparts. Resumo Objetivo Identificar a frequência de lesão renal aguda (LRA) em pacientes hospitalizados com COVID-19, as características associadas, a mortalidade e a letalidade. Abstract Objective To identify the frequency of acute kidney injury (AKI) in patients hospitalized with COVID-19, associated characteristics, mortality and lethality. Methods Integrative review carried out in the databases CINAHL, Embase, LILACS, Livivo, PubMed, SCOPUS, Web of Science and in the grey literature (Google Scholar) on January 12, 2022. Articles were included in English, Spanish and Portuguese, published from November 2019 to January 2022, in hospitalized patients over 18 years old with COVID-19 and AKI according to the Kidney Disease Improving Global Outcomes (KDIGO) criteria. The selected studies were read in full for extraction, interpretation, synthesis and categorization according to the level of evidence. Results A total of 699 articles were found and 45 included. Older age, male gender, hypertension, chronic kidney disease, mechanical ventilation, increased C-reactive protein, use of vasoactive drugs and certain classes of antihypertensives were associated with AKI. AKI is related to a higher frequency of mortality. AKI occurred in 30% of patients hospitalized with COVID-19. The mortality rate from AKI was 5% and the case fatality rate was 18%. Conclusion These results highlight the relevance of AKI as a significant complication of COVID-19 and suggest that more careful and early control of associated factors could potentially reduce mortality and lethality. It is crucial to intensify research in this field to better clarify the mechanisms involved in kidney injury in COVID-19 patients, as well as to identify more effective therapeutic strategies for its prevention and treatment in this context. Resumo Introdução: As doenças respiratórias agudas apresentam difícil mensuração e contribuem para o grande número de causas de óbito mal definidas, o que afeta a confiabilidade das informações de mortalidade. Objetivo: Verificar a acurácia da definição da causa básica de óbito para doenças respiratórias agudas dos óbitos registrados no Sistema de Informações sobre Mortalidade do Distrito Federal em 2018. Método: Foi realizado um estudo de acurácia, com amostra mínima de 331 declarações de óbito com as causas de óbito do capítulo 10 (doenças do aparelho respiratório — J00-J99 — conforme subcategorias) da Classificação Internacional de Doenças na versão 10, considerando a definição de causa básica de óbito pela equipe de investigação como o padrão-ouro. Foram calculadas a sensibilidade, especificidade, valores preditivos positivo e negativo e as razões de verossimilhanças positivas e negativas com os respectivos intervalos de confiança a 95%. Resultados: Total de 396 declarações de óbito foram incluídas. Foi constatada alta sensibilidade para identificar doenças pulmonares agudas nas causas básicas de óbito (82,8%. Abstract Background: Acute respiratory diseases are difficult to measure and contribute to a large number of ill-defined causes of death, which affects the reliability of mortality information. Objective: To verify the accuracy of the definition of the underlying cause of death for acute respiratory diseases registered in the Mortality Information System of the Federal District in 2018. Method: An accuracy study was conducted, with a minimum sample of 331 death certificates with the causes of death according to Chapter 10 (diseases of the respiratory system — J00-J99 — according to subcategories) of the International Classification of Diseases, version 10, considering the definition of the underlying cause of death by the research team as the gold standard. Sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive values, and positive and negative likelihood ratios were calculated with their respective 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Results: Overall, 396 death certificates were included. High sensitivity was identified to determine acute lung diseases in the underlying cause of death (82.8%, 95%CI 78.6–86.5) and high specificity (93.1%, 95%CI 77.2–99.2). The probability of the declaration shows that negative false value was low (0.2, 95%CI 0.1–0.2). Resumo O artigo investiga os efeitos dos marcadores sociais de gênero, raça e nível socioeconômico sobre o bullying entre os alunos do 9º ano do ensino fundamental no Brasil. O objetivo é verificar se o fenômeno está relacionado com hierarquias de poder estabelecidas na sociedade, de modo que alunos integrantes dos grupos sociais privilegiados na hierarquia social (isto é, homens, brancos e de nível socioeconômico mais elevado) tendem a praticar mais bullying e discentes de grupos sociais desfavorecidos (mulheres, negros e de nível socioeconômico mais baixo) tendem a sofrer mais bullying . Abstract This article explores the effects of social markers of gender, race and socioeconomic status (SES) on bullying among 9th-grade students in Brazil. The aim is to investigate whether students from privileged social groups within the social hierarchy (i.e., men, white individuals, and those of higher SES) exhibit higher rates of bullying perpetration, and conversely, whether students from disadvantaged social groups (women, black individuals, and those of lower SES) are more likely to be victims of these acts. We analyzed data from the 2015 National Survey of School Health (PeNSE) through Hierarchical Generalized Linear Models (HGLM) adjusted separately for public and private schools and for different types of student involvement with bullying: as victim, aggressor, or victim-aggressor. The results indicate that, only as to SES, we can state that bullying reproduces the status hierarchy found in society. In both public and private schools, students with a higher SES are more likely to bully someone, while students with a lower SES are more likely to be bullied. As for gender, it is observed that male students are more prone to be involved in bullying than female students, whether as a victim, aggressor, or victim-aggressor. Resumo O presente trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar a eficiência de taninos quimicamente modificados como coagulantes para tratamento de água. Os taninos das cascas de Anacardium occidentale (cajueiro) e Mimosa caesalpiniifolia (sabiá) e dos frutos sem sementes de Anadenanthera colubrina (angico) e Pityrocarpa moniliformis (angico de bezerro) foram avaliados após cationização para remover a turbidez da água. Após a extração, os extratos de taninos tiveram o teor de sólidos totais (TST), o índice de Stiasny (IS) e o teor de taninos totais condensados (TCT). Os taninos extraídos foram convertidos em pó e cationizados. Em seguida, avaliou-se a eficácia dos taninos cationizados na remoção da turbidez e o tempo de sedimentação além do efeito no pH da água. Para avaliar a eficiência dos taninos cationizados como floculantes foram utilizadas três concentrações de cada tipo de material: 50, 100 e 150 mg L-1. Embora o extrato de P. moniliformis tenha apresentado maior valor de TST (56,06%), apresentou os menores valores de IS (0,42%) e TCT (0,23%). Abstract This research assessed the efficiency of chemically modified tannins as coagulants for water treatment. Tannins from Anacardium occidentale (cashew tree) and Mimosa caesalpiniifolia (‘sabiá’) barks and seedless fruits of Anadenanthera colubrina (‘angico’) and Pityrocarpa moniliformis (‘angico de bezerro’) were evaluated after cationization to remove turbidity from water. After extraction, the total solids content (TSC), Stiasny index (SI), and total condensed tannins content (TCC) of the tannins extracts were determined. Extracted tannins were converted into powders and cationized. Then, the cationized tannins' effectiveness on water turbidity removal, sedimentation time, and effect on pH were assessed. Three concentrations of each type of tannin were used to evaluate flocculant efficiency: 50, 100, and 150 mg L-1. Although the P. moniliformis extract had a higher TSC value (56.06%), it presented the lowest SI (0.42%) and TTC (0.23%) values. M. caesalpiniifolia had the lowest TSC (9.18%) and the highest SI (91.27%), while Ac occidentale stood out with the highest TCC (19.83%). Abstract The outdoor use of wood can be improved by coating the wood surface with varnish to reduce the effects of natural weathering. However, some varnishes quickly lose their ability to protect wood, and nanoscale additives have been used to mitigate this negative effect, preferably renewable and biodegradable. Therefore, the objective of this study was to evaluate the performance of varnishes reinforced with spray-dried nanofibrillated cellulose (NFC) in a natural weathering test. For this purpose, two varnishes, waterborne and non-waterborne, with 0, 5, and 10% (w/w) NFC addition were applied to Pinus taeda tangential wood samples, which were exposed to natural weathering for half a year, during the period from January to June 2019, in Curitiba, PR, Brazil. Adherence and impact resistance tests were performed to evaluate the surface properties of the varnishes, and the effect of natural weathering on the wood surface was evaluated using quantitative colorimetric analyses (CIELab System). The varnishes did not perform well in the adhesion and impact test. While no significant effects were observed in surface tests, due to the addition of spray-dried NFC, varnishes reinforced with 5% NFC exhibited reduced overall color variation, maintaining yellow and red pigmentation. This suggests that incorporating 5% spray-dried NFC into varnishes did not compromise coating properties and aided in mitigating the impact of natural weathering on wood color variation. ABSTRACT Giant hepatic hemangiomas are occasional in patients with cirrhosis. It remains a challenge to decide on the need for treatment and choose the most appropriate intervention. A 62-year-old woman was recently diagnosed with cirrhosis and complained of upper abdominal fullness, reduction in oral food intake, and weight loss of 6 kg over the last three years. Upper digestive endoscopy evidenced thin-caliber esophageal varices and significant extrinsic compression of the lesser gastric curvature. Abdominal computed tomography revealed an exophytic tumor in the left hepatic lobe, measuring 11.5 cm, which had progressive centripetal contrast enhancement from the arterial phase, compatible with hepatic hemangioma. RESUMO As aves silvestres têm grande destaque na transmissão de doenças ao homem, principalmente pela facilidade de acesso à população humana, levantando preocupações sobre o potencial impacto dessa proximidade no contexto da saúde pública. O presente estudo relata a ocorrência de ARV e PBV em aves silvestres de uma área de proteção ambiental no bioma Amazônico. Obtivemos 155 espécimes fecais de 47 espécies de aves silvestres, que foram submetidos a extração de RNA, detecção de ARV e PBV por técnicas moleculares, sequenciamento nucleotídico e análise filogenética. A prevalência de infecção por ARV foi 0,6% (1/155), sendo positivo em um indivíduo de Myrmotherula longipennis, e a prevalência de PBV foi 1,29% (2/155), afetando dois insdivíduos de Guira guira. ABSTRACT Wild birds have great prominence in the transmission of diseases to humans, mainly due to their ease of access to human populations, raising concerns about the potential impact of that proximity on public health. The present study reports ARV and PBV occurrence in wild birds from an environmental protection area in the Amazon biome, in Pará state, Brazil. We obtained 155 fecal specimens from 47 species of wild birds for RNA extraction, ARV and PBV detection utilizing molecular methods, nucleotide sequencing, and phylogenetic analysis. ARV prevalence was 0.6% (1/155), being positive in an individual of Myrmotherula longipennis, and PBV prevalence was 1.29% (2/155), affecting two individuals of Guira guira. The PBV strains were assigned to genogroup I based on phylogenetic analysis, and they shared a strong phylogenetic link with strains isolated from different geographic locations. RESUMO Objetivo: Analisar as alterações físicas e psicológicas da infodemia de COVID-19 para a população idosa do Rio de Janeiro. ABSTRACT Objective: to analyze the physical and psychological changes of the COVID-19 infodemic for the older adult population of Rio de Janeiro. Method: a cross-sectional, web-based survey to find out about access to news and information about COVID-19 among older adult in Rio de Janeiro, between July and December 2020. Univariate analysis and bivariate analysis were carried out using non-parametric statistical methods. RESUMO Objetivo Analisar fatores associados à viremia detectável de HIV entre mulheres transexuais/travestis (MTTr), em cinco capitais brasileiras. Métodos Dados referentes à amostra de MTTr com sorologia reagente para HIV e carga viral (CV) detectável, em um estudo transversal entre 2019 e 2021. As variáveis dependentes e independentes foram, respectivamente: dosagem da carga viral, características socioeconômicas/demográficas; uso de álcool/drogas; e autopercepção de saúde mental. Foi utilizada a regressão de Poisson com variância robusta. Resultados Um total de 425 MTTr tiveram resultado reagente para HIV e realizaram dosagem de CV, com 179 (42,0%) detectáveis. Os fatores associados positivamente à detectabilidade foram: serem mais novas (RP=2,26; IC95% 1,13;4,51), piores condições de moradia (RP=2,72; IC95% 1,30;5,68) e saúde mental ruim/muito ruim (RP=1,70; IC95% 1,08;2,66). O uso de antirretroviral foi fator protetor à detectabilidade (RP=0,29; IC95% 0,30;0,61). ABSTRACT Objective To analyze factors associated with detectable HIV viremia among transgender women/transvestites (TWT) in five Brazilian capitals. Methods : This was a cross-sectional study using data from a sample of TWT with HIV-positive serology and detectable viral load (VL), between 2019 and 2021. The dependent and independent variables were, respectively: viral load measurement, socioeconomic/demographic characteristics; alcohol/drug use; and self-perceived mental health. Poisson regression with robust variance was used. Results : A total of 425 TWT tested positive for HIV and underwent VL measurement, 179 (42.0%) presented detectable viremia. Factors positively associated with detectability were: younger age (PR=2.26; 95%CI 1.13;4.51), poorer housing conditions (PR=2.72; 95%CI 1.30;5.68) and poor/very poor mental health (PR=1.70; 95%CI 1.08;2.66). The use of antiretroviral drugs was a protective factor against detectability (PR=0.29; 95%CI 0.30;0.61). RESUMEN Objetivo Analizar factores asociados a la viremia detectable del VIH entre mujeres transexuales/travestis (MTTr), en cinco capitales brasileñas. Métodos: trata-se de revisão de escopo baseada na metodologia do JBI, com a busca sem delimitar o período temporal, nos idiomas inglês, português e espanhol, nas bases de dados Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde, PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, Scopus e Web of Science. ABSTRACT Objective: to map evidence in the literature on the spirituality and religiosity of children, adolescents and their families in social vulnerability. Methods: this is a scoping review based on the JBI methodology, with the search without delimiting the time period, in English, Portuguese and Spanish, in the Virtual Health Library, PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, Scopus and Web of Science databases. Results: twenty-two studies were identified. The most studied population were adolescents, followed by children and their families. Regarding the setting, the context of vulnerability related to the low socioeconomic level experienced by these populations was highlighted. RESUMO Objetivo: Estimar as prevalências e fatores associados com as hepatites A, B e C em mulheres trans e travestis em cinco regiões do Brasil. Métodos: Estudo transversal com mulheres trans e travestis em cinco capitais brasileiras (Campo Grande, Manaus, Porto Alegre, Salvador e São Paulo), entre dezembro/2019 e julho/2021. As amostras foram submetidas à detecção de marcadores das infecções pelos vírus das hepatites A (HAV), B (HBV) e C (HCV), utilizando-se testes rápidos e quimioluminescência. Amostras positivas foram submetidas à detecção de HBV-DNA e HCV-RNA por PCR em tempo real e genotipadas por sequenciamento de Sanger. Resultados: As análises de 1.317 amostras indicaram taxas de prevalências nas mulheres trans e travestis recrutadas de 69,1%, 24,4% e 1,5% para exposição ao HAV, HBV e HCV, respectivamente. Elevada taxa de suscetibilidade ao HBV (35,7%) e baixa prevalência do marcador vacinal (40,0%) foram observadas. Mostraram-se associadas à presença de anti-HAV: idade maior que 26 anos, autodeclarar-se preta-parda, ter apenas educação básica, história de encarceramento e uso de preservativo na última relação sexual com parceiro casual. Quanto à exposição ao HBV, foi associada a idade maior que 26 anos, cor da pele preto-parda, ter sido profissional do sexo e história de encarceramento. Idade maior de 37 anos, história de abuso sexual e consumo frequente de álcool foram associadas ao HCV. Conclusão: As maiores prevalências de HAV nessa população encontram-se nas regiões Norte e Nordeste. Com relação ao HBV, a prevalência encontrada foi superior à encontrada na população geral, sugerindo maior vulnerabilidade. A prevalência do HCV foi semelhante à encontrada na população geral. ABSTRACT Objective: To estimate the prevalence and factors associated with hepatitis A, B, and C in transgender women and travestis's networks, in 5 regions of Brazil. Methods: This cross-sectional study includedtransgender women and travestis in five Brazilian capitals (Campo Grande, Manaus, Porto Alegre, Salvador, and São Paulo), between December/2019 and July/2021. All samples were subjected to detection of serological markers of hepatitis virus A (HAV), B (HBV), and C (HCV) infections through rapid tests and chemiluminescent microparticle immunoassays. Positive samples in the screening tests were submitted to detect HBV DNA and HCV-RNA by real-time PCR and genotyped by Sanger sequencing. Results: Analysis of 1,317 samples showed network prevalence rates of 69.1%, 25.1%, and 1.5% for HAV, HBV, and HCV exposure, respectively. A high susceptibility rate to HBV infection (35.7%) and low prevalence of vaccine response markers (40%) were also observed. Age greater than 26 years, self-declared black/brown skin color, having only primary education, history of incarceration, and use of a condom in the last sexual intercourse with a casual partner were associated with total anti-HAV. Exposure to HBV was associated with age greater than 26 years, self-declared black/brown, history of being a sex worker, and incarceration. Age > 37 years, history of sexual abuse, and frequent alcohol consumption were associated with hepatitis C infection. Conclusion: The highest prevalence of HAV in this population was found in the North and Northeast regions, and the prevalence found was higher than that in the general population, suggesting greater vulnerability. The prevalence of HCV infection in our study was similar to that observed in the general population. Resumo: O hackathon é um evento de curta duração, colaborativo e intensivo de programação, design e desenvolvimento de soluções criativas para problemas específicos ou desafios propostos. O objetivo deste estudo é analisar o conceito do evento de inovação - hackathon -, com estudo de caso do evento Hackatour Cataratas. A metodologia é exploratória e descritiva, de abordagem qualitativa, com estudo de caso. Os hackathons são interessantes para o setor de turismo, porque oferecem a oportunidade de desenvolver soluções com a participação de profissionais de diferentes áreas. Considerando especificamente o Hackatour Cataratas, foi possível identificar impactos positivos, como o desenvolvimento de soluções inovadoras e tecnológicas, no estímulo ao empreendedorismo. O evento incentivou a criação de novas empresas e startups no setor de turismo, por meio do desenvolvimento de ideias e projetos que possam ser transformados em negócios, na atração de investimentos, ao apresentarem soluções inovadoras, as equipes participantes podem chamar a atenção de investidores interessados em apoiar projetos no setor de turismo. O evento ocorre desde 2015, em Foz do Iguaçu e/ou online e já teve 12 edições, com temáticas específicas a cada ano. Por fim, podem contribuir para a melhoria da experiência do turista, tornando a viagem mais agradável, segura e eficiente. Abstract: A hackathon is a short-term, collaborative and intensive event involving programming, design and the development of creative solutions to specific problems or challenges. The aim of this study is to analyze the concept of the innovation event - hackathon -, with a case study of the Hackatour Cataratas event. The methodology is exploratory and descriptive, with a qualitative approach and a case study. Hackathons are interesting for the tourism sector because they offer the opportunity to develop solutions with the participation of professionals from different areas. Looking specifically at Hackatour Cataratas, it was possible to identify positive impacts such as the development of innovative and technological solutions, in stimulating entrepreneurship, the event encouraged the creation of new companies and startups in the tourism sector, through the development of ideas and projects that can be transformed into businesses, in attracting investments, by presenting innovative solutions, the participating teams can attract the attention of investors interested in supporting projects in the tourism sector. The event has been taking place since 2015 in Foz do Iguaçu and/or online and has already had 12 editions with specific themes each year. Finally, they can contribute to improving the tourist experience, making travel more enjoyable, safe and efficient. Aim This cohort study aimed to investigate the exclusive breastfeeding (EBF) prevalence and its association with maternal EBF intention and other variables. Method Pregnant women (n=653) in the third trimester of pregnancy filled out a questionnaire on EBF intention using the Infant Feeding Intentions scale and other variables. After delivery, mothers were contacted by phone at the first (T1; n=467), third (T3; n=333), and sixth (T6; n=217) month of the baby’s life or until breastfeeding was terminated, to collect data on breastfeeding, delivery, the newborn, oral habits, and family variables. The associations between independent variables and the outcomes (EBF prevalence at T1, T3, and T6) were analyzed by simple and multiple logistic regression models (α =0.05). Results EBF prevalence was 81.2% at T1, 64.0% at T3, and 35.9% at T6. Nott use baby bottle (OR=612.59; OR=139.08; OR=15.05) and no pacifier use (OR=2.94; OR=2.78; OR=2.93) were associated with the outcome at T1, T3, and T6, respectively. Other associated variables were strong EBF intention (OR=1.71) at T1; higher birth weight (OR=1.62), childcare support (OR=2.59), maternal age (OR=0.54), being married or having a partner (OR=1.82) at T3; and not returning to work (OR=2.39) at T6. Conclusion The EBF prevalence was high at the first month of the baby’s life and decreased over six months. The EBF intention affected EBF initiation.
