Resumo Objetivou-se avaliar o perfil de resistência de Aeromonas spp. isoladas de tambaquis (Colossoma macropomum) oriundos de cultivos da Região Metropolitana de São Luís - MA. Foram utilizadas 114 cepas bacterianas pertencentes a espécies de Aeromonas spp. e o perfil de resistência aos antimicrobianos foi realizado pelo método de difusão em disco com a utilização de 10 antimicrobianos. Os isolados foram classificados como sensível, sensível com exposição aumentada e resistente aos princípios avaliados e classificados os fenótipos com resistência múltipla às drogas testadas (MDR). As cepas bacterianas apresentaram resistência generalizada à penicilina; elevados percentuais de resistência à oxacilina, cefepime, cefadroxil e azitromicina. Os antimicrobianos com maior sensibilidade foram a ampicilina associada ao sulbactam, neomicina e ofloxacina e elevada frequência dos isolados (34,21%) foram categorizados como fenótipos MDR. Conclui-se que embora não existam antimicrobianos registrados no Brasil para uso no cultivo de C. macropomum, a resistência antimicrobiana está presente nos isolados de Aeromonas spp. avaliados. Abstract The current study assesses the resistance profile of Aeromonas spp. individuals isolated from tambaqui fish (Colossoma macropomum) grown in fish farms located in São Luís Metropolitan Region - MA. In total, 114 bacterial strains belonging to species Aeromonas spp. were used in the experiment. Resumo O poroma écrino e o hidradenoma poroide são neoplasias poroides benignas raras, derivadas das glândulas sudoríparas écrinas. Existem quatro tipos de neoplasias poroides, conforme a posição na camada da pele, sendo denominadas hidroacantoma simples, poroma écrino, tumor do ducto dérmico e hidradenoma poroide. As neoplasias poroides geralmente surgem como uma lesão solitária, com crescimento lento, podendo apresentar diferentes apresentações clínicas, como massa sobre o pé, lesão ulcerada, cisto sólido, lesão hemorrágica ou suspeita de melanoma. As extremidades são os sítios mais comuns, especialmente as mãos e os pés. No entanto, a coexistência desses dois tumores em uma única lesão é extremamente rara. Abstract Eccrine poroma and poroid hidradenoma are uncommon benign poroid neoplasms derived from eccrine sweat glands. There are four types of poroid neoplasms according to the position within the skin layer: hidroacanthoma simplex, eccrine poroma, dermal duct tumor, and poroid hidradenoma. Poroid neoplasms usually arise as slow-growing solitary lesions and can present different clinical presentations, such as a foot mass, an ulceration lesion, a solid cyst, a bleeding lesion or suspected melanoma. Extremities are the most common sites, especially hands and feet. However, the coexistence of these two tumors in a single lesion is extremely rare. Surgical excision represents the main treatment and can be curative, preventing malignant changes and recurrence. We describe a rare solitary tumor over the foot with clinical and histopathological features of an association of an eccrine poroma and a poroid hidradenoma that was surgically treated with no recurrence at the midterm follow-up. Resumo O artigo tem como objetivo estimar a incidência e o agravamento do problema de coluna (PC) durante a primeira onda da COVID-19 no Brasil, bem como investigar os fatores demográficos, socioeconômicos e as mudanças nas condições de vida associadas. Utilizou-se a ConVid - Pesquisa de Comportamentos, realizada entre abril e maio de 2020, como fonte de dados. Estimou-se o número e a distribuição dos entrevistados que desenvolveram PC e a dos que tiveram agravamento no problema preexistente, seus intervalos de 95% de confiança e o teste qui-quadrado de Pearson. Estimou-se também a razão de chance de desenvolver PC ou ter piora de problema preexistente por meio de modelos de regressão logística múltipla. O PC preexistente foi reportado por 33,9% (IC95% 32,5-35,3) dos entrevistados e mais da metade (54,4%; IC95% 51,9-56,9) teve piora do quadro. The odds ratio of developing BP or worsening a preexisting problem was also estimated using multiple logistic regression models. Pre-existing BP was reported by 33.9% (95%CI 32.5-35.3) of respondents and more than half (54.4%; 95%CI 51.9-56.9) had worsened. The cumulative incidence of BP in the first wave of the pandemic was 40.9% (95%CI 39.2-42.7). Being a woman, the perceived increase in housework and the frequent feeling of sadness or depression were associated with both outcomes. Socioeconomic factors were not associated with any of outcome. ABSTRACT The current study aimed to investigate the ectoparasitic diversity and gill alterations in Hoplerythrinus unitaeniatus (Characiformes: Erythrinidae) and Cichlasoma bimaculatum (Perciformes: Cichlidae) and evaluate the microbiological and physicochemical quality of water samples deriving from a Quilombola zone in Maranhão State, Brazil. Water samples and 42 fish specimens, 21 H. unitaeniatus and 21 C. bimaculatum, were collected from a floodable environment. Water samples were subjected to physicochemical and microbiological analyses in the laboratory environment. Fish specimens were euthanized to collect and identify ectoparasites in animals’ mucus, body surface, and gills, as well as to enable the histological analysis of the second right gill arch. The herein-identified ectoparasites have shown 30.95% prevalence and comprised three phyla: Platyhelminthes, Trematoda and Arthropoda. The herein-identified main histological changes comprised incomplete and complete fusion of several lamellae, lifting of respiratory epithelium, lamellar disorganization, lamellar epithelial hyperplasia, and blood sinus dilation. The herein calculated histological alteration index has shown that 23.80% of specimens presented mild-to-moderate tissue damage, 4.77% presented moderate-to-severe tissue changes, and 9.52% presented irreparable tissue damage. It was possible concluding that histological gill lesions identified in fish specimens analyzed may be adaptive responses to the affected environment and the incidence of ectoparasites.

RESUMO OBJETIVO Identificar características relacionadas ao estilo de vida, sociodemográficas e saúde mental de pessoas com sintomas de insônia e pessoas sem insônia durante a pandemia. MÉTODOS A partir de dados coletados por amostragem em bola de neve, por meio de um questionário online foi realizado um estudo caso-controle. Durante o período de novembro de 2020 a abril de 2021, 6.360 pessoas com idade média de 43,5 anos (DP = 14,3) participaram da pesquisa. No presente estudo, foram considerados 158 casos de transtorno de insônia e 476 controles (três controles por caso) selecionados aleatoriamente dentre os participantes sem problemas de sono. RESULTADOS Os resultados da análise comparativa entre casos e controles mostraram que dormir menos de seis horas diárias (OR = 3,89; IC95% 2,50–6,05), sentir tristeza frequentemente (OR = 2,95; IC95% 1,69–5,17), residir em metrópoles (OR = 1,71; IC95% 1,04–2,84), estar com 40 anos ou mais (OR = 1,93; IC95% 1,22–3,06) e a interação entre ocupação e escolaridade mais precária (OR = 2,12; IC95% 1,22–3,69) foram fatores preditores para sintomas de transtorno de insônia durante a pandemia. ABSTRACT OBJECTIVE To identify lifestyle-related, sociodemographic, and mental health characteristics of people with insomnia symptoms and people without insomnia during the pandemic. METHODS A case-control study was conducted with data collected by snowball sampling using an online questionnaire. From November 2020 to April 2021, 6,360 people with a mean age of 43.5 years (SD = 14.3) participated in the survey. For this study, we considered 158 cases of insomnia disorder and 476 controls (three controls per case) randomly selected from the participants without sleep problems. RESULTS The results of the comparative analysis between cases and controls showed that sleeping less than six hours daily (OR = 3.89; 95%CI 2.50–6.05), feeling sadness frequently (OR = 2.95; 95%CI 1.69–5.17), residing in metropolitan areas (OR = 1.71; 95%CI 1.04–2.84), being 40 years or older (OR = 1.93; 95%CI 1.22–3.06), and the interaction between occupation and poorer education (OR = 2.12; 95%CI 1.22–3.69) were predictors for symptoms of insomnia disorder during the pandemic. RESUMO Objetivo: Avaliar a prevalência e a incidência de atividade física insuficiente em adolescentes brasileiros e identificar os subgrupos mais afetados durante a pandemia. Métodos: Este estudo utilizou dados da ConVid Adolescentes - Pesquisa de Comportamentos, que avaliou, por meio de um questionário online autopreenchido, o comportamento de 9.470 adolescentes brasileiros no período de restrição social, em virtude da pandemia da COVID-19 em 2020. Os participantes foram convidados por meio de um procedimento de amostragem em cadeia denominado “bola de neve” virtual. Foram relatadas informações sobre a frequência de atividade física antes e durante a pandemia. As variáveis de exposição utilizadas foram sexo, faixa etária, raça/cor da pele, região do Brasil, tipo de escola, escolaridade materna, dificuldades financeiras durante a pandemia e restrições sociais. Foram utilizados modelos de regressão logística. Resultados: Os adolescentes praticaram menos atividade física durante a pandemia, visto que a prevalência de atividade física insuficiente aumentou de 71,3% no período anterior para 84,3% durante a pandemia. A incidência de atividade física insuficiente durante a pandemia foi de 69,6%. Os subgrupos de adolescentes mais afetados foram os que se autodeclararam da raça/cor da pele preta, que relataram dificuldades financeiras durante a pandemia, residentes nas regiões Sudeste e Sul do país e que realizaram restrição social intensa e total. Conclusão: Altas incidências de atividade física insuficiente foram observadas entre adolescentes brasileiros durante a pandemia da COVID-19. ABSTRACT Objective: To evaluate the prevalence and incidence of insufficient physical activity in Brazilian adolescents and identify the most affected subgroups during the pandemic. Methods: This study used data from the “ConVid Adolescents - Behavior Survey”, which evaluated the behavior of 9,470 Brazilian adolescents during the period of social restriction due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, through a self-administered online questionnaire. Participants were invited through a virtual “snowball” sampling procedure. Information was reported on the frequency of physical activity before and during the pandemic. The exposure variables used were gender, age group, race/skin color, region of Brazil, type of school, maternal education, financial difficulties during the pandemic, and social restrictions. Logistic regression models were used. Results: Adolescents engaged in less physical activity during the pandemic, as the prevalence of insufficient physical activity increased from 71.3% in the previous period to 84.3% during the pandemic. The incidence of insufficient physical activity during the pandemic was 69.6%. The subgroups of adolescents most affected were those who self-declared as black or with dark skin color, reported financial difficulties during the pandemic, lived in the Southeast and South regions of the country, and practiced intense or complete social distancing. Conclusion: High incidences of insufficient physical activity were observed among Brazilian adolescents during the COVID-19 pandemic. RESUMO O objetivo deste estudo foi verificar as infecções por parasitas gastrintestinais em caprinos e ovinos de acordo com a variação sazonal no município de São Luís, estado do Maranhão, Brasil. Foram realizadas colheitas de amostras de fezes diretamente das ampolas retais dos animais a cada 30 dias do experimento para contagem de ovos por gramas de fezes no período de 12 meses. Um total de 40 pequenos ruminantes foram utilizados no presente estudo. Destes, 22 eram caprinos (14 matrizes, 6 cabritos e 2 reprodutores) e 18 ovinos (13 matrizes, 4 cordeiros e 1 reprodutor). Foi mensurada a variação na excreção de ovos de nematoides gastrintestinais durante o período seco e chuvoso. Foi realizada cultura e identificação das larvas de terceiro estágio. Considerando os 12 meses de pesquisa e a quantidade de coletas mensais, o número de ovos detectados nas amostras fecais de caprinos e de ovinos foram de 95,9 e 82,3% de endoparasitos, respectivamente. Quanto à presença de oocistos de Eimeria spp, foi identificada frequência de 50,6% em caprinos e 30,4% em ovinos. Os resultados indicaram que, no período chuvoso a média dos ovos por grama de fezes foi maior, para as duas espécies estudadas. Os gêneros de nematoides gastrintestinais identificados recuperados da coprocultura, realizado mensalmente, revelou presença de Haemonchus sp. seguido por Trichostrongylus sp. e Oesophagostomum sp. ABSTRACT This study aimed to analyze the seasonal variation of gastrointestinal parasitic infections in goats and sheep in São Luís, Maranhão, Brazil. Fecal samples were collected directly from the rectal ampulla of the animals to count the eggs per gram in the feces at 30-day intervals over the 12-month study period. This study included 40 small ruminants, comprising 22 goats (14 sows, 6 kids, and 2 sires) and 18 sheep (13 sows, 4 lambs, and 1 sire). The study assessed the variation in the excretion of gastrointestinal nematode eggs during the dry and rainy seasons. Coproculture was performed to identify third-stage larvae. Resumo Objetivou-se determinar a resistência de nematoides gastrintestinais aos anti-helmínticos levamisol, ivermectina e albendazol em caprinos e ovinos da região metropolitana da Ilha de São Luís, Maranhão, Brasil. Foram coletadas amostras de fezes de 150 animais de quatro propriedades diferentes, sendo 2 com caprinos e 2 com ovinos, e aleatoriamente distribuídos de três a quatro grupos de 10 animais: Grupo I: grupo controle, sem tratamento. Grupo II: tratado com anti-helmíntico à base de ivermectina, administrado oralmente na dose de 200 mcg/kg; Grupo III: tratado com anti-helmíntico à base de levamisol, administrado oralmente na dose de 7,5mg/kg e Grupo IV: tratado com anti-helmíntico à base de albendazol administrado oralmente na dose de 3mg/kg. Abstract The aim of this study was to determine the resistance of gastrointestinal nematodes in goats and sheep to the anthelmintic drugs levamisole, ivermectin, and albendazole in the metropolitan region of São Luís Island, Maranhão, Brazil. Fecal samples were collected from 150 animals across four different farms; two farms had goats, and the other two had sheep. The samples were then randomly divided into three to four groups of 10 animals: Group I: control, without treatment; Group II: ivermectin treatment; Group III: levamisole treatment; and Group IV: albendazole treatment. Stool samples were collected from the rectal ampulla one day before treatment and 10 days after anthelmintic treatment. Individual coproparasitological examinations were performed using the modified McMaster technique at the Animal Health Laboratory of the Federal Institute of Maranhão, Campus São Luís-Maracanã. ABSTRACT. There is currently a lack of information in the literature on the integrated production of macauba (Acrocomia aculeata) and soybean (Glycine max) crops, and the importance of expanding integrated production systems; therefore, the objective of this work was to identify the effects of macauba shading on growth, development, and productivity of different soybean cultivars. The experiment was carried out in a randomized block design in a factorial scheme (4 × 2), with four cultivars and two production systems (monoculture and crop-forest integration), and four replicates per treatment. All soybean cultivars in the crop-forest integration system showed plant stagnation due to the shade level of the palm trees, as well as a reduction in the leaf area index and chlorophyll content in the leaves. Regarding reproductive parameters, grain, and oil yield, the cultivars responded differently between the production systems, revealing an interaction between the genotype and the environment. Our methodology was not favorable to soybean production; therefore, the management of spacing between palm trees and the selection of soybean genotypes that are more adapted to shaded environments are strategies that can allow for the integrated production of these species. RESUMO OBJETIVO Identificar características relacionadas ao estilo de vida, sociodemográficas e saúde mental de pessoas com sintomas de insônia e pessoas sem insônia durante a pandemia. MÉTODOS A partir de dados coletados por amostragem em bola de neve, por meio de um questionário online foi realizado um estudo caso-controle. Durante o período de novembro de 2020 a abril de 2021, 6.360 pessoas com idade média de 43,5 anos (DP = 14,3) participaram da pesquisa. No presente estudo, foram considerados 158 casos de transtorno de insônia e 476 controles (três controles por caso) selecionados aleatoriamente dentre os participantes sem problemas de sono. RESULTADOS Os resultados da análise comparativa entre casos e controles mostraram que dormir menos de seis horas diárias (OR = 3,89; IC95% 2,50–6,05), sentir tristeza frequentemente (OR = 2,95; IC95% 1,69–5,17), residir em metrópoles (OR = 1,71; IC95% 1,04–2,84), estar com 40 anos ou mais (OR = 1,93; IC95% 1,22–3,06) e a interação entre ocupação e escolaridade mais precária (OR = 2,12; IC95% 1,22–3,69) foram fatores preditores para sintomas de transtorno de insônia durante a pandemia. CONCLUSÕES Além da confirmação da hipótese de que problemas de saúde mental estão associados a sintomas de insônia, os resultados apontam para a insônia como um desfecho importante para estudos sobre efeitos do desemprego, vulnerabilidade e baixa escolaridade da população, sobretudo nas grandes metrópoles, ressaltando que os efeitos da crise sobre a saúde e a economia são distribuídos de forma extremamente desiguais.

ABSTRACT OBJECTIVE To identify lifestyle-related, sociodemographic, and mental health characteristics of people with insomnia symptoms and people without insomnia during the pandemic. METHODS A case-control study was conducted with data collected by snowball sampling using an online questionnaire. From November 2020 to April 2021, 6,360 people with a mean age of 43.5 years (SD = 14.3) participated in the survey. For this study, we considered 158 cases of insomnia disorder and 476 controls (three controls per case) randomly selected from the participants without sleep problems. RESULTS The results of the comparative analysis between cases and controls showed that sleeping less than six hours daily (OR = 3.89; 95%CI 2.50–6.05), feeling sadness frequently (OR = 2.95; 95%CI 1.69–5.17), residing in metropolitan areas (OR = 1.71; 95%CI 1.04–2.84), being 40 years or older (OR = 1.93; 95%CI 1.22–3.06), and the interaction between occupation and poorer education (OR = 2.12; 95%CI 1.22–3.69) were predictors for symptoms of insomnia disorder during the pandemic. CONCLUSIONS In addition to confirming the hypothesis that mental health problems are associated with insomnia symptoms, the results point to insomnia as an important outcome for studies on the effects of unemployment, vulnerability and low education of the population, especially in large cities, highlighting that the effects of the crisis on health and the economy are extremely unequally distributed.

RESUMO: A interação genótipo x ambiente representa um grande desafio na identificação e seleção de genótipos responsivos às diversas condições de clima e solo. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar e selecionar pré-cultivares de feijão carioca e feijão carioca precoce com base na adaptabilidade, estabilidade e produtividade de grãos. Na safra 2014 foram conduzidos dois ensaios regionais de competição no estado de Pernambuco: feijão carioca (14 genótipos em Arcoverde, Belém de São Francisco, Caruaru e São João) e feijão carioca precoce (11 genótipos em Araripina, Arcoverde e Caruaru) e na safra de 2015 com feijão carioca precoce (11 genótipos, em Araripina, Arcoverde e Brejão). Os parâmetros foram estimados por meio de modelos mistos e a seleção foi realizada pelo método da Média Harmônica do Desempenho Relativo dos Valores Genéticos (MHPRVG), adotando-se três estratégias: i) seleção com base no valor genético predito, sem interação; ii) seleção com base no valor genético predito, considerando cada local; iii) seleção simultânea quanto à produtividade de grãos, adaptabilidade e estabilidade. Observou-se que os ambientes influenciaram na expressão fenotípica dos genótipos de feijão carioca e carioca precoce, configurando adaptação específica. Os genótipos BRS Notável, BRS Estilo e BRS Pérola, de feijão carioca, e CNFC 15875, BRS Notável e CNFC 15630, de feijão carioca precoce, apresentaram os melhores desempenhos nos ambientes testados, considerando-se, simultaneamente, a adaptabilidade a diferentes condições edafoclimáticas, estabilidade de desempenho e produtividade de grãos.

ABSTRACT: Genotype x environment interactions represent a major challenge in identifying and selecting genotypes responsive to different climate and soil conditions. This research evaluated and selected pre-cultivars of carioca bean and early carioca bean based on adaptability, stability, and grain yield. In the 2014 crop season, two regional competition trials were conducted in the state of Pernambuco: carioca beans (14 genotypes in Arcoverde, Belém de São Francisco, Caruaru and São João) and early carioca beans (11 genotypes in Araripina, Arcoverde, and Caruaru) and, in the 2015 crop season, with early carioca beans (11 genotypes in Araripina, Arcoverde, and Brejão). Parameters were estimated by mixed models, and the selection was performed using the Harmonic Mean of Relative Performance of Genetic Values (HMRPGV) method following three strategies: i) selection based on predicted genetic value with no interaction; ii) selection according to predicted genetic value considering each location; and iii) simultaneous selection for grain yield, adaptability, and stability. The environments influenced the phenotypic expression of the carioca and early carioca bean genotypes, representing a specific adaptation. The genotypes BRS Notável, BRS Estilo and BRS Pérola, of carioca beans, and CNFC 15875, BRS Notável and CNFC 15630, of early carioca beans, had the best results in the environments tested, regarding, simultaneously, adaptability to different soil and climate conditions, performance stability, and grain yield.

RESUMO Objetivo: Avaliar a prevalência e a incidência de atividade física insuficiente em adolescentes brasileiros e identificar os subgrupos mais afetados durante a pandemia. Métodos: Este estudo utilizou dados da ConVid Adolescentes - Pesquisa de Comportamentos, que avaliou, por meio de um questionário online autopreenchido, o comportamento de 9.470 adolescentes brasileiros no período de restrição social, em virtude da pandemia da COVID-19 em 2020. Os participantes foram convidados por meio de um procedimento de amostragem em cadeia denominado “bola de neve” virtual. Foram relatadas informações sobre a frequência de atividade física antes e durante a pandemia. As variáveis de exposição utilizadas foram sexo, faixa etária, raça/cor da pele, região do Brasil, tipo de escola, escolaridade materna, dificuldades financeiras durante a pandemia e restrições sociais. Foram utilizados modelos de regressão logística. Resultados: Os adolescentes praticaram menos atividade física durante a pandemia, visto que a prevalência de atividade física insuficiente aumentou de 71,3% no período anterior para 84,3% durante a pandemia. A incidência de atividade física insuficiente durante a pandemia foi de 69,6%. Os subgrupos de adolescentes mais afetados foram os que se autodeclararam da raça/cor da pele preta, que relataram dificuldades financeiras durante a pandemia, residentes nas regiões Sudeste e Sul do país e que realizaram restrição social intensa e total. Conclusão: Altas incidências de atividade física insuficiente foram observadas entre adolescentes brasileiros durante a pandemia da COVID-19. Recomenda-se que novos estudos explorem períodos posteriores aos analisados para identificar a dinâmica comportamental dos adolescentes a partir do retorno das atividades presenciais.

ABSTRACT Objective: To evaluate the prevalence and incidence of insufficient physical activity in Brazilian adolescents and identify the most affected subgroups during the pandemic. Methods: This study used data from the “ConVid Adolescents - Behavior Survey”, which evaluated the behavior of 9,470 Brazilian adolescents during the period of social restriction due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, through a self-administered online questionnaire. Participants were invited through a virtual “snowball” sampling procedure. Information was reported on the frequency of physical activity before and during the pandemic. The exposure variables used were gender, age group, race/skin color, region of Brazil, type of school, maternal education, financial difficulties during the pandemic, and social restrictions. Logistic regression models were used. Results: Adolescents engaged in less physical activity during the pandemic, as the prevalence of insufficient physical activity increased from 71.3% in the previous period to 84.3% during the pandemic. The incidence of insufficient physical activity during the pandemic was 69.6%. The subgroups of adolescents most affected were those who self-declared as black or with dark skin color, reported financial difficulties during the pandemic, lived in the Southeast and South regions of the country, and practiced intense or complete social distancing. Conclusion: High incidences of insufficient physical activity were observed among Brazilian adolescents during the COVID-19 pandemic. It is recommended that further studies explore periods after those analyzed to identify the behavioral dynamics of adolescents upon returning to in-person activities.

Abstract Atriplex nummularia L. is one of the most studied halophytes in research on phytoremediation of salt-affected soils. However, the optimization of biomass requires studies that indicate the appropriate way to evaluate the photosynthesis. The objective of this study was to investigate the photosynthetic efficiency of A. nummularia irrigated with saline water in order to indicate the best range of photosynthetically active radiation (PAR) that should be used. Plants were subjected to daily irrigations (0, 50, 100, 200, 250 and 300 mmol L-1 of NaCl). The light curves were determined at 15 and 84 days applying twenty light intensities (2000, 1750, 1500, 1250, 1000, 750, 500, 250, 200,175, 150, 125, 100, 75, 50, 25, 15, 10, 5, 0 μmol m-2 s-1 PAR). The highest values of photosynthesis rate were observed at PAR of 2000 μmol m-2 s-1 and of 800 μmol m-2 s-1 to 15 and 84 days of evaluation, independent of the NaCl concentration. The present study provides data that support the choice of the ideal PAR in evaluations of gas exchange in A. nummularia.
