Worldwide, millions of people suffer from neurological and psychiatric conditions, such as schizophrenia, depression, and neurodegenerative diseases. This study aimed to employ bibliometric methodologies to provide an overview of silver nanoparticles used as antimicrobial agents over the past decade. According to research conducted using the Scopus and Web of Science databases, a total of 2504 articles were published globally, of which 109 were from Brazilian institutions. Notably, approximately 70% of the leading article-producing countries are in Asia, with India emerging as the primary contributor with 1892 articles. Brazil ranked sixth in terms of publication volume, contributing 366 articles. Predominantly, the Southeastern region of Brazil exhibited the highest publication output, constituting 61% of the total, with the state of São Paulo playing a central role. Despite a gradual increase in the number of publications, most studies focused on synthesis methodologies, mainly producing aqueous silver nanoparticle solutions and their correlation with antimicrobial applications. Cupuaçu (Theobroma grandiflorum Schum.) is an Amazonian fruit rich in antioxidants potential due to its phenolic compounds. Its seeds produce cupulate, a chocolate-like product, and the residue remains rich in biocompounds. This study aimed to optimize and compare microwave-assisted (MAE) and high pressure/temperature extraction (HPTE) of polyphenolic and flavonoid compounds from cupuaçu seed by-products. A Box-Behnken 33 factorial design assessed the influence of extraction time, solid/liquid ratio, and ethanol concentration. Responses included total polyphenol content, total flavonoid content, and anti-radical power via the ABTS (2,2-azino-bis-3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulphonic acid) method. In optimum conditions, MAE had the highest total polyphenol content and HPTE for flavonoids. Optimal conditions for both methods were 65% (m/v) ethanol concentration, 45 min extraction time, and 0.03 g mL−1 solid/liquid ratio. MAE and HPTE achieved greater recovery of (−)-epicatechin and (−)-epigallocatechin-3-gallate compared to percolation. Both techniques proved viable for recovering polyphenols from cupuaçu seed by-products, in less time and with less solvent. Phosphate species can affect aquatic ecosystems, as excess of this nutrient can cause eutrophication, generating environmental impacts. Lamellar double hydroxides have shown promise in removing phosphate at low concentrations (10-50 mg L 1). In this context, lamellar double hydroxides were synthesized interspersed with nitrates and humic substances, searching for a new product that favors phosphorus adsorption. X-ray diffraction showed the presence of characteristic peaks of lamellar double hydroxides and thermogravimetric analysis showed the decomposition behavior of lamellar structure. The adsorption capacity occurred quickly (< 30 min), being more efficient for lamellar double hydroxides with NO3. Fruits of Schinus terebinthifolia Raddi were investigated. A fast and efficient method for the simultaneous determination of 11 polyphenolic substances by high performance liquid chromatography-diode array detector (HPLC-DAD) was applied. Limits of quantification ranged between 0.78 and 3.14 mg L-1. High concentrations of kaempferol were found. An exploratory evaluation was performed using principal component analysis (PCA) for fruit origin differentiation. Species from Pavonia genus (Malvaceae) are traditionally used as antioxidant, n anti inflammatory and antimicrobial remedies. Previous studies have revealed their diversity of specialized metabolites widely used in the development of new medicines. This is the first study on Pavonia glazioviana Gurke, a Brazilian species known as “Malva da Chapada”. RESUMO A introdução da soja tolerante a 2,4-D (ENLIST®) oferece um novo potencial para a aplicação de herbicidas. Dessa forma, o presente trabalho teve como objetivo: (a) avaliar o efeito das combinações de herbicidas pós-emergentes no controle de Conyza spp., e (b) a seletividade da associação de herbicidas pós-emergentes em soja, garantindo uma aplicação eficaz sem comprometer a saúde da cultura. Um experimento de campo com soja tolerante ao 2,4-D utilizou um delineamento experimental de blocos casualizados, com 14 tratamentos em quatro repetições. Os tratamentos incluíram várias combinações de 2,4-D com glifosato, chlorimuron, cloransulam, imazethapyr, bentazona e imazamox. Estes foram aplicados como um único tratamento ou sequencialmente 15 dias após o tratamento (DAT) usando glufosinato de amônio, juntamente com dois controles sem aplicação de herbicida. ABSTRACT The introduction of 2,4-D-tolerant soybeans (ENLIST®) offers a new potential for herbicide application. Therefore, the present study aimed to (a) evaluate the effect of combinations of post-emergent herbicides on the control of Conyza spp. and (b) assess the selectivity of the post-emergent herbicide association in soybeans, ensuring effective application without compromising the health of the crop. A field experiment with 2,4-D-tolerant soybeans utilized a randomized complete block design with 14 treatments across four replications. Treatments included various combinations of 2,4-D with glyphosate, chlorimuron-ethyl, cloransulam-methyl, imazethapyr, bentazon, and imazamox. RESUMO O cultivo do milho convencional em áreas de refúgio é importante para preservação da tecnologia Bt e para atender mercados específicos com maior valor agregado aos grãos. Portanto, as pesquisas voltadas ao controle químico de plantas daninhas também devem continuar direcionadas aos híbridos convencionais de milho. O objetivo foi avaliar a seletividade de herbicidas aplicados em pré e pós-emergência de um híbrido convencional de milho cultivado no bioma Cerrado do Brasil. Foram instalados dois experimentos de campo, um na safra verão e outro segunda safra. Os tratamentos foram onze herbicidas, cujas doses são apresentadas em g ha-1 de ingrediente ativo: S-metolachlor (1.680), mesotrione + atrazine (115,2 + 2.000), mesotrione + atrazine (192 + 2.000), tembotrione + atrazine (75,6 + 2.000), tembotrione + atrazine (100,8 + 2.000), nicosulfuron + atrazine (16 + 2.000), nicosulfuron + atrazine (24 + 2.000), [mesotrione + atrazine] ([120 + 1.,200]), aplicação sequencial de [mesotrione + atrazine] ([60 + 600]), atrazine (2.000), mais testemunha capinada. ABSTRACT The cultivation of conventional maize in refuge areas is important for preserving Bt technology and serving specific markets with greater added value to the grains. Therefore, research aimed at chemical weed control must also continue to be directed to conventional maize hybrids. The objective was to evaluate the selectivity of herbicides applied in preand post-emergence of a conventional maize hybrid cultivated in the Cerrado biome of Brazil. Two field experiments were set up, one in summer and the other in second season. RESUMO Compostos derivados de petróleo presentes no solo podem comprometer o crescimento das plantas e inibir o desenvolvimento da população microbiana. Esses contaminantes diminuem a porosidade do solo, dificultam a absorção de água e podem interromper processos metabólicos das plantas. Assim, nesta pesquisa buscou-se avaliar os efeitos da presença no solo de três hidrocarbonetos no solo sobre o crescimento e desenvolvimento de espécies forrageiras e nos indicadores microbiológicos do solo. O experimento foi realizado em casa de vegetação no delineamento experimental de blocos casualizados, com quatro repetições. Os tratamentos foram dispostos em fatorial de 5×4, sendo o primeiro fator constituído pelas espécies avaliadas (Pennisetum glaucum, Zea mays, Brachiaria ruziziensis, Panicum maximum e Sorghum bicolor), e o segundo fator correspondendo a presença dos contaminantes: benzeno, tolueno ou xileno e solo sem contaminante. As espécies foram cultivadas por 42 dias. A tolerância das espécies dependeu do tipo de contaminante presente no solo. A massa seca total da P. glaucum foi reduzida em 26%, 10% e 32% para o tolueno, benzeno e xileno, respectivamente. Z. mays teve o crescimento reduzido na presença do tolueno (13%) e do benzeno (21%). ABSTRACT Oil-derived compounds present in the soil can compromise plant growth and inhibit the development of the microbial population. These contaminants reduce soil porosity, hinder water absorption, and can disrupt plant metabolic processes. The aim of this research was to evaluate the effects of the presence of three hydrocarbons in the soil on the growth and development of forage species and on soil microbiological indicators. The experiment was carried out in a greenhouse using a randomized block design with four replications. Treatments were arranged in a 5×4 factorial, with the first factor consisting of the species evaluated (Pennisetum glaucum, Zea mays, Brachiaria ruziziensis, Panicum maximum and Sorghum bicolor) and the second factor corresponding to the presence of contaminants: benzene, toluene or xylene and soil without contaminants. The species were grown for 42 days. The tolerance of the species depended on the type of contaminant present in the soil. The total dry matter of P. glaucum was reduced by 26%, 10% and 32% for toluene, benzene and xylene, respectively. Z. mays had its growth reduced in the presence of toluene (13%) and benzene (21%). RESUMO O processo de secagem é de suma importância para a manutenção da qualidade das sementes, onde a temperatura de condução deste processo exerce influência direta sobre a germinação e vigor, sobretudo para as espécies olerícolas que são colhidas com alto teor de água. O objetivo desta pesquisa foi determinar e modelar as curvas de secagem de sementes de jiló (cultivar Tinguá-verde-claro) nas temperaturas de 35, 38, 41 e 44 ºC, bem como avaliar a qualidade fisiológica das sementes após a secagem. Foi utilizado o delineamento inteiramente casualizado, sendo quatro temperaturas de secagem (35, 38, 41 e 44 ºC) com quatro repetições. Nove modelos matemáticos foram ajustados por meio de análise de regressão não linear pelo método de Gauss-Newton, e o grau de ajuste foi avaliado com base na magnitude do coeficiente de determinação (R2), teste qui-quadrado (χ2), erro médio relativo (P) e erro médio estimado (SE). This research aimed to determine and model the drying curves of S. aethiopicum (cultivar Tinguá-verde-claro) seeds at temperatures of 35, 38, 41, and 44 ºC, as well as to evaluate the physiological quality of the seeds after drying. A completely randomized design was used, with four drying temperatures (35, 38, 41, and 44 ºC) and four replicates. Nine mathematical models were fitted using the non-linear regression analysis by the Gauss-Newton method, and the goodness of fit was assessed based on the magnitude of the coefficient of determination (R2), chi-square test (χ2), relative mean error (P), and estimated mean error (SE). Seed quality was evaluated by germination test (G), electrical conductivity (EC), and accelerated aging (AA). The Modified Midilli model best represents the drying curves of S. aethiopicum seeds at the studied temperatures. Resumo A esporotricose é uma micose subaguda a crônica causada por espécies do gênero Sporothrix. A forma linfocutânea predomina na maioria dos casos, porém indivíduos imunocomprometidos podem apresentar variantes disseminadas. Embora mais prevalente em adultos, sua ocorrência em lactentes é um fenômeno raro, com fatores de risco e aspectos epidemiológicos pouco estudados. Descrevemos um caso de infecção por esporotricose em criança de 9 meses, que se manifestou por dois nódulos de crescimento progressivo, de consistência mole, localizados nas regiões cervical direita e pré-auricular, associados a uma deterioração na condição geral e febre ao longo de um mês. Apesar de múltiplos tratamentos com antibióticos, não houve melhora das lesões. A cultura do material aspirado de um dos nódulos revelou Sporothrix. O paciente foi então tratado com itraconazol oral, levando à regressão das lesões em 2 meses. A identificação do agente de transmissão neste caso não foi possível. Este relato visa ampliar a compreensão da manifestação da esporotricose em lactentes e fornecer informações valiosas para o aprimoramento de estratégias específicas de prevenção, diagnóstico e tratamento para esse grupo particular de pacientes dermatológicos.

Abstract Sporotrichosis is a subacute to chronic mycosis caused by species of the genus Sporothrix. While the lymphocutaneous form predominates in most cases, immunocompromised individuals may present with disseminated variants. It is more prevalent in adults and rare in infants, with poorly studied risk factors and epidemiological aspects in this age group. We describe a case of sporotrichosis infection in a 9-month-old child, presenting with two progressively growing nodules, soft in consistency, located in the right cervical and pre-auricular regions, associated with a decline in general condition and fever over a month’s duration. Despite multiple oral antibiotics, there was no lesional improvement. Aspiration of one of the nodules, and culture of the secretion revealed Sporothrix. The patient was then treated with oral itraconazole, leading to regression of the lesions within 2 months. The identification of the transmission agent in this case was not possible. This report aims to broaden the understanding of sporotrichosis manifestation in infants and to provide valuable insights for the enhancement of specific preventive, diagnostic, and therapeutic strategies for this age group of dermatological patients.

RESUMO Os percevejos-das-gramíneas [Blissus pulchellus Montandon (Hemiptera: Blissidae)] sugam a seiva de espécies forrageiras suscetíveis e injetam toxinas que destroem os vasos condutores e dificultam o transporte de água e nutrientes, levando as plantas a morte. Assim, o objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar a resistência por antixenose e tolerância em oito poáceas forrageiras à B. pulchellus e comparar as características anatômicas dos tecidos das bainhas foliares de espécies/cultivares resistentes e suscetíveis. Os ensaios foram conduzidos em laboratório e casa de vegetação, em testes com e sem chance de escolha, utilizando-se as forrageiras: Urochloa ruziziensis, U. humidicola, U. brizantha ‘Piatã’, U. brizantha ‘Paiaguás’, U. brizantha ‘Marandu’, Panicum maximum ‘Mombaça’, P. maximum ‘Zuri’, e Andropogon gayanus. Os resultados de oviposição demonstraram que no teste de escolha houve uma mudança no comportamento do percevejo em relação às gramíneas quatro horas após infestação, sendo U. humidicola, P. maximum ‘Mombaça’ e ‘Zuri’, U. brizantha ‘Marandu’ e A. gayanus menos atrativos para os insetos. Conclui-se que U. humidicola, P. maximum ‘Mombaça’ e ‘Zuri’, U. brizantha ‘Marandu’, e A. gayanus são menos atrativas a B. pulchellus. ABSTRACT Chinch bugs [Blissus pulchellus Montandon (Hemiptera: Blissidae)] suck the phloem from susceptible forage grasses, injecting toxins that destroy plant vessels and compromise the flow of water and nutrients, leading to plant death. Thus, the aim of this study was to assess eight forage grasses for antixenosis resistance to B. pulchellus and compare the anatomical characteristics of leaf sheath tissue from resistant and susceptible species/cultivars. Experiments were conducted in a laboratory and greenhouse, using choice and no-choice tests with the following forage grasses: Urochloa ruziziensis, U. humidicola, U. brizantha ‘Piatã’, U. brizantha ‘Paiaguás’, U. brizantha ‘Marandu’, Panicum maximum ‘Mombaça’, P. maximum ‘Zuri’, and Andropogon gayanus. The oviposition results demonstrated that in the choice test there was a change in the stink bug’s behavior in relation to grasses four hours after infestation, with U. humidicola, P. maximum ‘Mombaça’ and ‘Zuri’, U. brizantha ‘Marandu’ and A. gayanus, proving to be less attractive to insects. It is concluded that U. humidicola, P. maximum ‘Mombaça’ and ‘Zuri’, U. brizantha ‘Marandu’, and A. gayanus are less attractive to B. pulchellus. A. gayanus and P. maximum ‘Mombaça’ and ‘Zuri’ showed non-preference resistance (antixenosis) to oviposition by B. pulchellus. O objetivo deste estudo foi utilizar análise de correlação canônica para avaliar a interação entre atributos de qualidade da água causadores de entupimento e o desempenho hidráulico de gotejadores não autocompensantes operando com diluições de efluente de aquicultura em água de poço. ABSTRACT The canonical correlation is used to correlate groups of distinct variables. The objective of this study was to use canonical correlation analysis to evaluate the interaction between water quality attributes clogging-causing and the hydraulic performance of non-pressure compensating drippers operating with dilutions of aquaculture effluent in well water. Resumo Introdução: O papel da tomografia computorizada torácica de ultrabaixa dose (ULDCT) em contexto de urgência é desconhecido. Objetivo: Este estudo avaliou a viabilidade da ULDCT em adultos na urgência com suspeita de pneumonia. Foram medidos a dose de radiação, o tempo entre a solicitação e os relatórios do exame, prescrições de antimicrobianos também foram correlacionadas. Métodos: Este estudo avaliou a viabilidade da ULDCT em adultos na urgência com suspeita de pneumonia. Foram medidas a dose de radiação, o tempo entre a solicitação e a disponibilização dos relatórios do exame, e também foram correlacionadas as prescrições de antimicrobianos. Entre outubro de 2017 e dezembro de 2018, incluímos prospectivamente adultos com suspeita de pneumonia adquirida na comunidade, sem diagnóstico definitivo por avaliação clínica. Os critérios de exclusão abrangeram condições clínicas que pudessem afetar a interpretação da imagem. Resultados: Foram incluídos 131 pacientes elegíveis (idade média de 43,5 anos; 57% homens) encaminhados para ULDCT. Dezoito (13,7%) foram excluídos. A dose média de radiação da ULDCT foi de 0,14 mSv. O intervalo de tempo entre a solicitação médica e o resultado da ULDCT foi de 43 minutos. Conclusão: A ULDCT mostrou-se viável para pacientes adultos com suspeita de pneumonia em contexto de urgência. Os relatórios foram disponibilizados num intervalo razoável e os resultados negativos foram associados a uma baixa taxa de prescrição de antibióticos.

Abstract Background: The role of ultra-low-dose chest CT (ULDCT) in the emergency department is unknown. Purpose: This study sought to examine feasibility of ULDCT in adults presenting to the emergency department for whom pneumonia was suspected. Radiation dose and time interval between medical request and ULDCT results were measured, antibiotic prescriptions were correlated. Methods: Between October 2017 and December 2018, we prospectively enrolled consecutive healthy adult patients in a single-center for whom community-acquired pneumonia was suspected and for whom no definitive diagnosis was possible by clinical judgment. Exclusion criteria comprised all chronic conditions that could impact severity and interpretation of image. Results: 131 eligible patients (mean age 43.5 years; 57% men) were enrolled to ULDCT. Eighteen (13.7%) patients were excluded. Average CT radiation dose was 0.14 mSv. Time interval between medical request and ultra-low-dose chest CT result was 43 minutes. Only 15.9% of patients with negative CT received antibiotics. Conclusion: Ultra-low-dose chest CT was feasible for almost all patients in a group of healthy adults presenting to the emergency department with suspected community-acquired pneumonia. Results were made available in a reasonable interval, and negative ones were associated with a low antibiotic prescription rate.

RESUMO Em ambientes irrigados, o crescimento vegetativo da cana-de-açúcar e o consumo de carboidratos durante a maturação requerem o manejo de maturadores para aumentar a produtividade da cultura. A combinação de maturadores, com nutrientes e bioestimulantes como os aminoácidos, pode promover respostas fisiológicas que favorecem a qualidade da matéria-prima e aumentam o teor de sacarose. Dessa forma, o estudo teve como objetivo avaliar a resposta agroindustrial da cultura de cana-de-açúcar fertirrigada aos agentes de maturação. Os tratamentos consistiram na aplicação de maturador químico (MQ), nutricional (MN), aplicação conjunta de MN+MQ e controle com quatro repetições. Os atributos agroindustriais (sólidos solúveis totais, sacarose aparente (AS), açúcares redutores (AR), açúcares totais recuperáveis (ATR), pureza, fibra, sacarose no colmo (SS) foram avaliados em 0 (antes da aplicação), 12, 19, 36 e 60 dias após aplicação (DAA). O tempo modificou os atributos tecnológicos da cana-de-açúcar sob aplicação de maturador. Os maiores valores de caldo AS e sólidos solúveis totais foram obtidos no MN+MQ em relação ao controle. Os tratamentos MN e MN+MQ apresentaram os maiores teores de ATR (150 kg Mg-1), aos 36 DAA. Além disso, o tratamento MN+MQ aumentou o teor de fibra, mas não comprometeu a qualidade da matéria-prima, e apresentou altos teores de SC e pureza, bem como baixos teores de AR. ABSTRACT In irrigated fields, sugarcane’s vegetative growth and carbohydrate consumption during ripening require ripener management options to improve crop yield. The hypothesis is that ripeners, together with nutrients, biostimulants, and amino acids, improve physiological responses that favor the quality of the raw material and increase the sucrose content. Consequently, the study aimed to evaluate the agro-industrial response of a fertigated sugarcane crop to ripening agents. The treatments consisted of applying chemical ripener (CR), nutritional ripener (NR), and a joint application of NR+CR, besides control with four replicates. Agro-industrial attributes (total soluble solids, apparent sucrose (AS), reducing sugars (RS), total recoverable sugar (TRS), purity, fiber, sucrose in the stalk (SS) were evaluated at 0 (before application), 12, 19, 36, and 60 days after application (DAA). The time modified the technological attributes of sugarcane under ripener application. The highest apparent sucrose and total soluble solids values were obtained with NR+CR compared to the control. The NR and NR+CR treatments presented the highest TRS contents (150 kg Mg-1) at 36 DAA. Furthermore, the NR+CR treatment increased fiber content but did not compromise the quality of the raw material, and it showed high contents of SS and purity percentage, as well as low contents of RS.
