RESUMO: As neoplasias neuroepiteliais presentes no sistema ventricular originam-se das células que revestem o plexo coroide e podem ser benignas ou malignas, como é o caso do carcinoma de plexo coroide. Um equino, de quatro anos de idade, apresentando quadro neurológico com síndrome encefálica de quinze dias de evolução, foi encaminhado para atendimento veterinário. Ao exame apresentava apatia, ataxia severa, desvio lateral de cabeça, andar em círculos, pressão da cabeça contra obstáculos, diminuição do tônus da cauda, anosmia, ausência da resposta de ameaça visual, ausência de sensibilidade na face e hipotonia de língua. Líquido cefalorraquidiano apresentava pleocitose mista, aumento de proteína e diminuição de glicose. Após o óbito o animal foi diagnosticado com carcinoma de plexo coroide em terceiro ventrículo após exame histopatológico e imunohistoquímico. Conclui-se que equinos podem apresentar tumores em SNC, como o carcinoma de plexo coroide, com sintomatologia clínica inespecífica, tratamento clínico inefetivo e diagnóstico conclusivo realizado no exame post mortem. ABSTRACT: Neuroepithelial neoplasms present in the ventricular system originate from the cells lining the choroid plexus and can be benign or malignant, such as choroid plexus carcinoma. A four-year-old equine presenting with a fifteen-day history of neurological symptoms was sent for veterinary evaluation. Upon examination, the horse exhibited apathy, severe ataxia, head tilt, circling behavior, head pressing, decreased tail tone, anosmia, absence of menace response, lack of facial sensitivity, and lingual hypotonia. Cerebrospinal fluid analysis revealed mixed pleocytosis, increased protein, and decreased glucose. Following the animal’s death, histopathological and immunohistochemical examinations confirmed the diagnosis of choroid plexus carcinoma in the third ventricle. It is concluded that horses may develop central nervous system tumors, such as choroid plexus carcinoma, with nonspecific clinical symptoms, ineffective clinical treatment, and a conclusive diagnosis established postmortem. ABSTRACT Due to the importance of grain production, and the need to work the soil under limited moisture, the aim of this study was to develop computer software to predict the tractive capacity of wheeled tractors for two types of tyre, the effect of different inflation pressures and levels of soil moisture. A mathematical model was developed to predict the tractive capacity of a 4 x 2 AFT tractor. Software was developed and tested by comparing the computational data with those from tests of a working tractor in the field. The parameters under evaluation were drawbar force and front and rear drive wheel slip. At both moisture levels, the bias tyres had the lowest front to rear slip ratio at the lower pressure; the ratios were similar when equipped with radial tyres. The bias tyres show maximum force at a slip ratio of 1.09 at the higher pressure and 1.03 at the lower, while for the radial tyres the ratio was 1.05 at the higher pressure and 1.07 at the lower. Software was developed to process data from the model, with the results used for estimating the tractive force of the tractor. Resumen El objetivo de este estudio fue comprender las relaciones entre las diferentes variables de combustible destructivas (pasto y carga de combustible de 1-h) y no destructivas (altura del pasto, altura de la hojarasca, número de especies y número de individuos), en aras de desarrollar modelos para estimar la carga de combustible y la humedad y analizar el consumo de combustible. Este estudio se llevó a cabo en un área protegida ubicada en el bioma Cerrado, en la región de Jalapão, estado de Tocantins, Brasil. Se muestrearon las características no destructivas de la vegetación para determinar las cargas de combustible vivo y muerto en diferentes clases de retardo. Se obtuvieron ecuaciones para estimar estas cargas, con valores de R²aj que varían entre 0.12 y 0.73. Se pudo observar la influencia considerable de la carga de combustible de pasto muerto en el modelado, la cual se considera el principal factor determinante para un mayor consumo de vegetación por el fuego.

Abstract The aim of this study was to understand the relationships between different destructive (grass and 1-h fuel load) and non-destructive fuel variables (grass height, litter height, number of species, and number of individuals), in order to develop models for estimating fuel load and moisture and analyzing fuel consumption. This study was carried out in a protected area located in the Cerrado biome, in the Jalapão region, Tocantins state, Brazil. The non-destructive characteristics of the vegetation were sampled to determine the live and dead fuel loads in different time-lag classes. Equations were obtained to estimate these loads, with values of R²aj, varying from 0.12 to 0.73. The considerable influence of dead grass fuel load on modeling could be observed, which is regarded as the main determining factor for a greater consumption of vegetation by fire.

Resumo A NBR 7190-3 (ABNT, 2022) apresenta diferentes métodos para determinar o módulo de elasticidade da madeira, permitindo a adoção de equivalência entre o módulo de elasticidade na compressão (Ec0) e na tração (Et0). Por outro lado, não apresenta uma forma de estimar o módulo de elasticidade na flexão (EM0), e tais estimativas não consideram a variação das estruturas anatômicas das espécies. Diante dessa lacuna, é necessário avaliar se essas equações são válidas para diferentes espécies. O presente artigo avaliou as propriedades elásticas de três espécies: Cumaru (Dipteryxodorata), Marupá (Simarouba amara Aubl., Simaroubaceae) e Roxinho (Peltogyne spp., Leguminosa). Para isso, realizou-se o ensaio não destrutivo de flexão, seguido de ensaios à compressão e à tração. Imagens microscópicas foram comparadas, para compreender a influência das estruturas anatômicas nas propriedades de rigidez. Os resultados confirmaram a equivalência entre Ec0 e Et0. Abstract The NBR 7190-3 (ABNT, 2022) presents various methods to determine the wood's modulus of elasticity, allowing for the adoption of equivalence between the modulus of elasticity in compression (Ec0) and tension (Et0). However, it does not provide a way to estimate the modulus of elasticity in bending (EM0), and such estimates do not consider the variation in anatomical structures among species. Faced with this gap, it is necessary to evaluate whether these equations are valid for different species. This article evaluated the elastic properties of three species: Cumaru (Dipteryx odorata), Marupá (Simarouba amara Aubl., Simaroubaceae) and Roxinho (Peltogyne spp., Leguminosae). For this purpose, a non-destructive flexural test was initially conducted, followed by compression and tension tests. RESUMO A correlação canônica é usada para correlacionar grupos de variáveis distintas. O objetivo deste estudo foi utilizar análise de correlação canônica para avaliar a interação entre atributos de qualidade da água causadores de entupimento e o desempenho hidráulico de gotejadores não autocompensantes operando com diluições de efluente de aquicultura em água de poço. O experimento foi conduzido em delineamento inteiramente casualizado, em esquema de parcelas subsubdivididas, com três repetições, com cinco diluições nas parcelas (Diluição 1: 100% de efluente de aquicultura; Diluição 2: 75% de efluente de aquicultura + 25% de água de poço; Diluição 3 : 50% efluente de aquicultura + 50% água de poço; Diluição 4: 25% efluente de aquicultura + 75% água de poço; e Diluição 5: 100% água de poço), três emissores nas subparcelas (ST (1,6 L h-1) , SL (1,6 L h-1) e NJ (1,7 L h-1)), e três tempos de operação nas subsubparcelas (início do experimento, 80 e 160 horas, em que 0 horas de operação significa o início das avaliações). As análises estatísticas realizadas foram matriz de correlação e análise canônica. A análise de correlação canônica indicou que quando as concentrações dos atributos aumentam, o desempenho hidráulico dos gotejadores diminui. A interação desse grupo de atributos indica que o entupimento dos gotejadores que operam com as cinco diluições de efluente de aquicultura em água de poço ocorre pela ação combinada de agentes físicos, químicos e biológicos. ABSTRACT The canonical correlation is used to correlate groups of distinct variables. The objective of this study was to use canonical correlation analysis to evaluate the interaction between water quality attributes clogging-causing and the hydraulic performance of non-pressure compensating drippers operating with dilutions of aquaculture effluent in well water. The experiment was in a completely randomized design in a split-split-plot scheme with three replicates, with five dilutions in the plots (Dilution 1: 100% aquaculture effluent; Dilution 2: 75% aquaculture effluent + 25% well water; Dilution 3: 50% aquaculture effluent + 50% well water; Dilution 4: 25% aquaculture effluent + 75% well water; and Dilution 5: 100% well water), three emitters in the sub-plots (ST (1.6 L h-1), SL (1.6 L h-1) and NJ (1.7 L h-1)), and three operating times in the sub-subplots (0, 80 and 160 hours, in which 0 hours operating time means the start of evaluations). Resumo: O objetivo foi descrever a gravidade das complicações relacionadas ao aborto, os fatores relacionados às complicações, os tipos de tratamento e a experiência de atendimento no Brasil. Foi realizado um estudo transversal em vinte hospitais (dez no Distrito Federal, três em Rondônia e sete no Maranhão). Durante três meses, todos os dados de todas as mulheres tratadas por aborto/aborto espontâneo foram coletados. A gravidade das complicações foi definida de acordo com os critérios da Organização Mundial da Saúde. As mulheres com hemorragia, infecção ou lesão de órgãos foram convidadas a responder a uma entrevista sobre a experiência do atendimento. A análise estatística foi realizada usando o teste de qui-quadrado e modelos de regressão de Poisson. Entre as 1.683 mulheres incluídas, 82,5% tiveram complicações leves, 13,6% tiveram complicações moderadas, 3,2% tiveram condições potencialmente ameaçadoras à vida (PLTC, acrônimo em inglês) e 0,7% tiveram resultados maternos graves (SMO, acrônimo em inglês). A maioria das mulheres (94,2%) precisou de esvaziamento uterino. Entre elas, 91,5% precisaram de esvaziamento cirúrgico (com ou sem uso de uterotônicos) e 8,5% usaram apenas uterotônicos. O método de esvaziamento cirúrgico mais frequente foi a curetagem (66,9%), seguido pela aspiração manual a vácuo (32,3%). Os fatores associados à PLTC/SMO vs. complicações leves foram ter idade gestacional ≥ 13 semanas (razão de prevalência - RP = 3,09; intevalo de 95% de confiança - IC95%: 1,42-6,72), ter sido tratado no Maranhão (RP = 0,27; IC95%: 0,12-0,63) e em Rondônia (RP = 0,64; IC95%: 0,20-0,99). Os fatores associados às complicações moderadas vs. leves foram expulsão dos produtos da concepção antes da chegada ao serviço de saúde (RP = 2,55; IC95%: 1,64-3,96) e ter sido tratado no Maranhão (RP = 0,58; IC95%: 0,38-0,87). A maioria das mulheres que responderam à entrevista foi tratada com gentileza (95,6%), no entanto, 66,7% se sentiram estressadas e 10,1% relataram que suas preferências não foram respeitadas durante a internação. Nove em cada dez mulheres atendidas em hospitais públicos brasileiros devido a complicações relacionadas ao aborto são submetidas a algum procedimento cirúrgico, sendo o mais comum a curetagem uterina. Aproximadamente quatro em cada 100 mulheres apresentam complicações graves. É fundamental garantir o fornecimento de equipamentos para aspiração manual a vácuo e incentivar programas de educação médica continuada para aumentar a conscientização dos profissionais de saúde sobre tratamentos mais seguros para evacuação uterina.

Abstract: This study aimed to describe the severity of abortion-related complications, factors associated with complications, the types of management and the experience of care in Brazil. A cross-sectional study in twenty hospitals (10 in Federal District, 3 in Rondônia and 7 in Maranhão). For 3 months, all women treated for abortion/miscarriage had their data collected. The severity of complications was defined according to World Health Organization criteria. Women with hemorrhage, infection or organs injury were invited to answer an interview about experience of care. Statistical analysis was performed using chi-square test and Poisson regression models. Among 1,683 women included, 82.5% had mild complications, 13.6% had moderate complications, 3.2% had potentially life-threatening conditions (PLTC) and 0.7% had severe maternal outcomes (SMO). Most women (94.2%) required uterine evacuation. Among these, 91.5% required surgical evacuation (with or without the use of uterotonics) and 8.5% used only uterotonics. The most frequent surgical evacuation method was curettage (66.9%), followed by manual vacuum aspiration (MVA) (32.3%). Factors associated with PLTC/SMO vs mild complications were having a gestational age ≥ 13 weeks (pravlence ratio - PR = 3.09; 95% confidence interval - 95%CI: 1.42-6.72), having been treated in Maranhão (PR = 0.27; 95%CI: 0.12-0.63) and in Rondônia (PR = 0.64; 95%CI: 0.20-0.99). Factors associated with moderate vs. mild complications were expulsion of products of conception before arrival to health facility (PR = 2.55; 95%CI: 1.64-3.96) and having been treated in Maranhão (PR = 0.58; 95%CI: 0.38-0.87). Most women who responded to the interview were treated kindly (95.6%), however, 66.7% felt stressed and 10.1% reported that their preferences were not respected during hospitalization. Nine out of ten women treated in Brazilian public hospitals due to abortion-related complications undergo some surgical procedure, the most common of which is uterine curettage. Approximately four in every hundred women experience severe complications. It is essential to ensure the supply of equipment for MVA and to encourage continuing medical education programs to increase the awareness of healthcare professionals about safer treatments for uterine evacuation.

ABSTRACT The knowledge of correlations between multiple characteristics in plant breeding leads to more effective selection strategies. The path analysis allows refining these correlations and partitioning them into direct and indirect effects on the main variable. The path analysis becomes more effective when based on predicted genotypic values rather than phenotypic values. The objective was to evaluate correlations between the main agronomic characteristics of grapevine cultivation and their direct and indirect effects on yield per plant to improve selection strategies to reach superior progenies. A randomized complete block design was installed using four cultivars and two rootstocks, five repetitions, and plots of four plants. Data from three crop seasons were analyzed from a mixed model and genetic correlations were subject to the path analysis. A high and positive significant correlation was found between average fruit production and the number of clusters per plant. On the other hand, the average production per plant showed a low correlation to cluster width and height per grapevine. Wider and higher berries tend to increase berry fresh mass and therefore increase the contents of soluble solids and reducing sugars. Among the features, the number of clusters per plant has the strongest direct effect on fruit production in grape cultivars. Berry fresh mass, berry length, and berry width were indirectly influenced by the number of clusters and showed high heritability compared to yield and number of clusters. These characteristics could be used in indirect selection.

Abstract This study explores the development of biodegradable filaments for additive manufacturing, aiming to create membranes for oil and water separation. Using a mixture of poly (lactic acid) and poly (butylene adipate co-terephthalate) (PLA/PBAT) with additives such as zinc oxide, biocide and carnauba wax. The research evaluates the potential of these materials in membrane prototyping for this application. Characterization techniques such as FTIR, XRD, DSC and tensile strength were employed. The results showed that the addition of the additives did not induce the formation of new bands in the FTIR. However, new diffraction peaks appeared in the composites indicating the presence of the zinc oxide. DSC revealed a double peak in melting and crystallization temperatures and the mechanical tests showed significant influence of additives on tensile strength. Resumo Pingo-de-ouro (Duranta erecta L.), conhecida por suas aplicações paisagísticas, é frequentemente submetida a sucessivas podas para manter sua estrutura ornamental, sabendo-se que essa prática gera inúmeras respostas fisiológicas e químicas na planta. Portanto, este estudo teve como objetivo avaliar a influência da poda e de diferentes métodos de extração sobre o potencial alelopático da Pingo-de-ouro na germinação e crescimento inicial da alface. Os extratos das folhas foram obtidos por decocção (quente) e maceração (frio) em concentrações de 20%, 40%, 60%, 80% e 100%, tendo água destilada como controle negativo. Foi realizada a triagem fitoquímica dos extratos para identificar compostos fenólicos, flavonoides, antocianidinas, taninos, heterosídeos cardiotônicos, saponinas, alcaloides e terpenos. Para o bioensaio, foram mensurados e caracterizados parâmetros germinativos e morfológicos. Os dados foram submetidos à análise de variância (ANOVA) e, para os dados quantitativos, foram ajustados modelos de regressão, enquanto para os dados qualitativos, as médias foram comparadas pelo teste de Scott-Knott com 5% de significância. Foram observadas diferenças significativas entre os métodos de extração e as práticas de manejo, sendo que o extrato aquoso quente das plantas podadas reduziu significativamente a germinação em concentrações mais elevadas. O crescimento inicial da alface foi gravemente prejudicado, apresentando inúmeras anormalidades morfológicas, com danos severos ao sistema radicular em todas as concentrações. Este estudo sugere que as práticas de poda têm um efeito modulador na atividade alelopática da Pingo-de-ouro, fornecendo informações valiosas para projetos paisagísticos e estudos botânicos, considerando sua avaliação e produção de fitoquímicos fitotóxicos. Abstract Golden-Dewdrop (Duranta erecta L.), known for its landscaping applications, undergoes successive pruning to maintain its ornamental structure, a practice known to induce numerous physiological and chemical responses in the plant. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the influence of pruning and different extraction methods on the allelopathic potential of Golden-Dewdrop on the germination and initial growth of lettuce. Leaf extracts were obtained by decoction (hot) and maceration (cold) at concentrations of 20%, 40%, 60%, 80%, and 100%, with distilled water as a negative control. Phytochemical screening of the extracts was performed for phenolic compounds, flavonoids, anthocyanidins, tannins, cardioactive heterosides, saponins, alkaloids, and terpenes. For the bioassay, germinative and morphological parameters were measured and characterized. The data were subjected to analysis of variance (ANOVA), and for quantitative data, regression models were adjusted, while for qualitative data, means were compared using the Scott-Knott test with 5% significance. Significant differences were observed between extraction methods and management practices, with the hot aqueous extract from pruned plants significantly reducing germination at higher concentrations. The initial growth of lettuce was severely affected, presenting numerous morphological abnormalities, with severe damage to the root system at all concentrations. This study suggests that pruning practices have a modulating effect on the allelopathic activity of Golden-Dewdrop, providing valuable information for landscaping projects and botanical studies considering its evaluation and production of phytotoxic phytochemicals. Resumo O objetivo deste trabalho foi definir blocos experimentais para experimentos com cana-de-açúcar, com uso de técnicas de geoestatística, análise de componentes principais e técnicas de agrupamento aplicadas às propriedades do solo. Para isso, foram utilizados dados de propriedades químicas do solo de um experimento com cana-de-açúcar. As técnicas de geoestatística foram aplicadas para identificar a variabilidade espacial dessas propriedades e estimar os valores para locais não amostrados por meio de krigagem. A análise de componentes principais foi aplicada para redução dimensional, e, com as novas variáveis obtidas, realizou-se a análise de agrupamento pelo método k-means, para determinar os blocos experimentais com duas a cinco repetições. Das 12 variáveis analisadas, 10 apresentaram dependência espacial. A análise de componentes principais permitiu reduzir a dimensionalidade dos dados para duas variáveis, que explicaram 82,27% da variância total. Os blocos obtidos apresentaram formas poligonais irregulares, com diferentes formatos e tamanhos, e alguns mostraram descontinuidade. Abstract The objective of this work was to define experimental blocks for sugarcane experiments using geostatistical techniques, principal component analysis, and clustering techniques applied to soil properties. For this, data of soil chemical properties from a sugarcane experiment were used. Geostatistical techniques were applied to identify the spatial variability of these properties and to estimate the values for non-sampled locations through kriging. The principal components analysis was used for dimensional reduction, and, with the new variables obtained, the cluster analysis was performed using the k-means method to determine the experimental blocks with two to five replicates. Of the 12 analyzed variables, 10 showed spatial dependence. The principal component analysis allowed reducing the dimensionality of the data to two variables, which explained 82.27% of total variance. The obtained blocks presented irregular polygonal shapes, with different formats and sizes, and some of them showed discontinuities. Abstract Background: Recent studies show Silent Myocardial Infarction (SMI) as a quite frequent event. However, regarding severe tertiary care patients that frequently present consequences of Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) and Left Ventricular Dysfunction (LVD), the occurrence of this manifestation is unexpected and its associated factors aren't clear in the literature. Aim: To compare clinical, laboratorial, ventricular and angiographic factors between silent and classical presentation of MI in patients with CAD and LVD. Methods: Patients with multivessel CAD with over 70 % obstructive lesions and LVD with EF less than 35 % were evaluated for MASS VI trial and later included in the present study. The ventricular function and coronary assessment were measured by echocardiography and SYNTAX score, respectively. The population was stratified in a SMI group and Clinically Manifested Myocardial Infarction (CMMI) group based on MI presentation for a comparison of medical parameters. Results: From 132 patients, 47 (35.6 %) were classified as SMI and 85 (64.4 %) as CMMI. No differences were observed between groups regarding age, sex, diabetes mellitus, SYNTAX score, or collateral circulation. Higher proportion of NYHA II classification, inferior wall MI and lower creatinine clearance were found in SMI group. After multivariate analysis, peripheral diabetic neuropathy (OR = 4.6 [1.1-12.7] p = 0.032) and inferior wall MI (OR = 4.1 [1.5-11.4] p = 0.007) were significantly associated with SMI. Conclusion: Peripheral diabetic neuropathy and inferior wall MI were associated with SMI presentation. Overall, associated factors tend to be similar comparing SMI and CMMI, but in the specific population of diabetic patients with chronic neuropathy a special care should be taken. RESUMO O reuso da água oriunda de esgoto doméstico tratado é uma alternativa promissora em regiões semiáridas do mundo. Objetivou-se avaliar o consórcio de sorgo (Sorghum sudanense) com palma (Opuntia stricta), utilizando-se lâminas de irrigação (80, 100 e 120 % da evapotranspiração da cultura - ETc) com água de reuso, em solo com e sem cobertura morta. Utilizou-se delineamento em blocos casualizados, em esquema fatorial 3 (lâminas de irrigação) x 2 (com e sem cobertura), com 4 repetições. Foram avaliadas as trocas gasosas foliares, potencial hídrico e fluorescencia da clorofila. O uso da cobertura morta em plantio consorciado entre palma e sorgo influenciou positivamente nas trocas gasosas e eficiência fotossintética, resultando em aumentos de até 156, 186 e 14 % para fotossíntese líquida, transpiração e eficiência fotossintética, respectivamente, além de promover aumento do potencial hídrico. ABSTRACT The reuse of treated domestic wastewater is a promising alternative in semiarid regions of the world. This study aimed to assess the intercropping of sorghum (Sorghum sudanense) with prickly pear (Opuntia stricta) cultivated under irrigation depths (80, 100 and 120 % of the crop evapotranspiration - ETc) with reused water, in soil with and without mulch. RESUMO A simulação do fluxo de água no solo em regiões semiáridas é fundamental para o gerenciamento de recursos hídricos escassos. Visando resultados mais precisos, a análise de sensibilidade (AS) dos parâmetros hidrodinâmicos envolvidos nas simulações é muito relevante. Este estudo tem como objetivo avaliar a influência dos parâmetros hidrodinâmicos na resposta hidrológica de um depósito aluvionar no leito seco do Rio Capibaribe utilizando o Hydrus-1D. Um método de análise de sensibilidade global proposto por Sobol foi escolhido para avaliar a sensibilidade da curva de infiltração de água no solo. Uma análise de convergência foi realizada para investigar a evolução dos índices com o aumento do tamanho da amostra. Os valores dos índices de sensibilidade apresentaram variações brutas no início das simulações para os diferentes parâmetros, mas convergiram dentro do conjunto de 10.000 amostras. Para parâmetros cujos índices de sensibilidade são mais próximos de 0, nota-se que 1.000 amostras (14.000 simulações) foram suficientes para que o índice convergisse para seu valor final. ABSTRACT Simulation of water flow in the soil in semiarid regions is fundamental for managing scarce water resources. Aiming for more accurate results, the sensitivity analysis (SA) of the hydrodynamic parameters involved in the simulations is very relevant. This study aims to evaluate the influence of hydrodynamic parameters on the hydrological response of an alluvial deposit in the dry bed of the Capibaribe River using the Hydrus-1D. A global sensitivity analysis method proposed by Sobol was chosen to evaluate the sensitivity of the soil water infiltration curve. A convergence analysis was carried out to investigate the evolution of the indices with increasing sample size. Values of the sensitivity indices showed gross variations at the beginning of the simulations for the different parameters, but they converged within the set of 10,000 samples. RESUMO Contexto: Nas últimas décadas, a ecoendoscopia evoluiu de uma ferramenta diagnóstica para uma plataforma para diversas intervenções terapêuticas. Vários avanços tecnológicos surgiram desde o último Consenso Brasileiro, demandando uma revisão e atualização das recomendações baseadas nas melhores evidências científicas. Métodos: Um grupo de 32 ecoendoscopistas renomados selecionou oito tópicos relevantes para serem discutidos a fim de gerar questões clínicas. Em seguida, foi realizada uma revisão da literatura para responder a essas perguntas com base nas evidências mais atualizadas. Resultados: Trinta e três tópicos foram formulados e votados pelos especialistas para alcançar um consenso. O Sistema de Oxford foi utilizado para classificar o nível de evidência. Conclusão: Há evidências moderadas para sustentar que a forma da agulha, calibre ou técnica de aspiração não influenciam no rendimento da amostragem tecidual guiada por ultrassom endoscópico (USE) de lesões sólidas pancreáticas. Há evidências moderadas para sustentar o uso da biópsia transcutânea guiada por USE da parede cística para diferenciar entre neoplasias císticas mucinosas e não mucinosas. ABSTRACT Background: In the past decades, endoscopic ultrasound has developed from a diagnostic tool to a platform for many therapeutic interventions. Various technological advancements have emerged since the last Brazilian Consensus, demanding a review and update of the recommendations based on the best scientific evidence. RESUMO Objetivo O presente estudo teve como objetivo investigar a associação da espessura do músculo quadríceps, medida por ultrassom, com o estado nutricional de pacientes críticos em um hospital de referência de alta complexidade para o cuidado de traumas. Métodos Um estudo observacional transversal foi conduzido nas unidades de terapia intensiva de um hospital terciário no Brasil. A amostra compreendeu 30 pacientes críticos de trauma admitidos entre fevereiro e março de 2022. A metodologia envolveu a avaliação da massa muscular e a comparação do estado nutricional por meio de medições da circunferência do braço e avaliações por ultrassom. Especificamente, a espessura do músculo quadríceps foi quantificada usando ultrassom em um local pré-definido entre a crista ilíaca e a borda proximal da patela. Resultados O teste de Kruskal-Wallis indicou variabilidade na espessura do músculo quadríceps entre os grupos de estado nutricional, com significância estatística alcançada após a exclusão do grupo com sobrepeso (H(2)=7.532, p=0,023). O grupo com desnutrição moderada exibiu um resultado menor em espessura do músculo quadríceps. Foi encontrada uma correlação positiva entre a espessura do músculo quadríceps e a adequação da circunferência do braço médio-superior (p<0,05), demonstrando uma correlação de razoável a moderadamente forte (rs=0,531). Conclusão Mudanças significativas na espessura do músculo quadríceps foram detectadas pela avaliação de ultrassom em pacientes com desnutrição moderada em comparação com pacientes de outros estados nutricionais. ABSTRACT Objective The present study aimed to investigate the association of quadriceps muscle thickness, measured by ultrasound, with the nutritional status of critically ill patients in a referral high-complexity trauma care hospital. Methods A cross-sectional observational study was conducted in the intensive care units in a tertiary hospital in Brazil. The sample comprised 30 critically ill trauma patients admitted between February and March 2022. The methodology involved evaluating muscle mass and comparing nutritional status through mid-upper arm circumference measurements and ultrasound assessments. Specifically, the quadriceps muscle thickness was quantified using ultrasound at a predefined site between the iliac crest and the proximal border of the patella. Results: The Kruskal-Wallis test indicated variability in quadriceps muscle thickness between the nutritional status groups, with statistical significance reached after excluding the overweight group (H(2) = 7.532, p=0.023). The moderate malnutrition group exhibited notably lower quadriceps muscle thickness. A positive correlation was found between quadriceps muscle thickness and mid-upper arm circumference adequacy (p<0.05), demonstrating fair to moderately strong correlation (rs=0.531). Conclusion Significant changes in quadriceps muscle thickness were detected by ultrasound assessment in moderate malnutrition patients compared to patients of other nutritional statuses.
