Os genótipos Macaíba II e Natal I se destacaram quanto à relação SS/AT, flavonoides e antocianinas. Em contrapartida, o genótipo Macaíba III apresentou o maior teor de carotenoides e grande potencial bioativo. batatadoce batata doce vital vitaminas humana Assim pressupõese pressupõe físicoquímica físico química ambientais modo 202 Agronômica UAECA (UAECA UFRN RN Brasil BRS Beauregard IV CearáMirim Ceará Mirim colheita firmeza elasticidade pH, , (pH) AT, AT (AT) SS, SS (SS) SSAT SS/AT (SS/AT) totais físicoquímicas químicas CearáMirim, Mirim, contrapartida bioativo 20 (pH (AT (SS (SS/AT 2
ABSTRACT Sweet potato is a vital food root, rich in vitamins, minerals, and bioactive compounds. Genotypes that meet these nutritional demands are essential to combat nutrient deficiencies and promote human health. Thus, it presupposes the hypothesis that sweet potato genotypes differ in physicochemical quality and bioactive compounds when evaluated under the same environmental conditions. Thus, this study aims to evaluate the physicochemical quality and bioactive compounds in genotypes of orange-fleshed sweet potato. The experiment was conducted from April 2022 to August 2022 in the experimental area of Agronomic Engineering, located at the Academic Unit Specialized in Agricultural Sciences (UAECA) - UFRN, in Macaíba, RN, Brazil. The treatments were composed of eight genotypes, being two cultivars (BRS Amélia and Beauregard) and six accessions (Macaíba I, Macaíba II, Macaíba III, Macaíba IV, Ceará-Mirim, and Natal I) of orange-fleshed sweet potato from the UAECA teaching collection. After harvest, the following characteristics were evaluated: firmness, elasticity, hydrogen potential (pH), titratable acidity (TA), soluble solids (SS), ratio (SS/TA), Vitamin C, and the bioactive compounds: anthocyanins, flavonoids, and total carotenoids. The orange-fleshed sweet potato genotypes showed distinct characteristics for the physicochemical variables and the bioactive compounds. Due to increased pulp pH, anthocyanins were reduced in the Ceará-Mirim, Macaíba III, and Macaíba IV genotypes. The Macaíba II and Natal I genotypes stood out regarding the SS/TA ratio, flavonoids, and anthocyanins. In contrast, the Macaíba III genotype had the highest carotenoid content and great bioactive potential. root vitamins minerals health Thus conditions orangefleshed orange fleshed 202 Engineering (UAECA UFRN RN Brazil BRS Beauregard CearáMirim, CearáMirim Ceará Mirim, Mirim Ceará-Mirim collection harvest firmness elasticity pH , (pH) TA, TA (TA) SS, SS (SS) SS/TA, SSTA (SS/TA) C flavonoids carotenoids contrast 20 (pH (TA (SS (SS/TA 2

ABSTRACT High concentration of salts in the soil impacts the availability of water and nutrients essential for plant growth and physiology. Therefore, management strategies that can mitigate the negative effects of salt stress are necessary, such as the use of plant hormones. Thus, this study aimed to evaluate the effect of salt stress and the application of melatonin on the growth and production aspects of radish plants. The experiment was carried out in a randomized block design, in a 3 × 3 factorial scheme, with four replications, considering one plant per experimental plot. The treatments consisted of three electrical conductivities of irrigation water - ECw (0.5, 2.75, and 5.0 dS m-1) and three concentrations of melatonin (0, 0.5, and 1.0 mM). Growth variables were evaluated, namely plant height, stem diameter, number of leaves, leaf area, dry mass of leaves, petioles and roots, specific leaf area, leaf area ratio, and leaf weight ratio. In addition, production aspects were analyzed, namely bulb length, bulb diameter, and bulb fresh weight. Exogenous application of melatonin reduces the deleterious effects of salt stress on the growth and production aspects of radish plants. Application of melatonin at a dose of 0.5 mM is the most recommended to mitigate the effects of salt stress up to the level of 2.75 dS m-1. The use of melatonin opens new perspectives for the development of management strategies aimed at optimizing growth and protecting the radish crop under saline conditions. physiology Therefore necessary hormones Thus plants design scheme replications plot 05 0 5 (0.5 275 2 75 50 5. m1 m 1 m-1 0, (0 10 1. mM. . mM) evaluated height diameter leaves roots ratio addition analyzed length 0. 2.7 m1. conditions (0. 27 7 m- ( 2.

Foram avaliados o pH, sólidos solúveis (SS), acidez titulável (AT), relação SS/AT, açúcares solúveis e os compostos bioativos - flavonoides, antocianinas e carotenoides. As doses de P influenciaram as cultivares de batata-doce. A dose de 120 kg ha-1 promoveu incrementos nos parâmetros pH, SS, AT e relação SS/AT para a cultivar BRS Cuia. A mesma dose promoveu incrementos nos açúcares solúveis totais para a cultivar BRS Amélia. A dose de 240 kg ha-1 promoveu maiores teores de flavonoides e antocianinas na cultivar Paraná, e houve aumento no teor de carotenoides na dose de 60 kg ha-1. batatadoce batata doce mundo genética mineral nutrientes produto Paraná Cuia pH SS , (SS) AT, (AT) SSAT batatadoce. doce. 12 ha1 ha 1 ha- 24 6 ha1. 1. ABSTRACT Sweet potato is among the most important food crops in the world. Due to its high genetic diversity, this species has cultivars that can respond in different ways depending on mineral fertilization. Among the nutrients, phosphorus is related to physiological and biochemical processes that can influence the final quality of the product. This study aimed to assess the influence of P doses on the quality and bioactive compounds of sweet potato cultivars - Paraná, BRS Amélia, and BRS Cuia. The pH, soluble solids (SS), titratable acidity (TA), SS/TA ratio, soluble sugars, and the bioactive compounds - flavonoids, anthocyanins, and carotenoids - were evaluated. The P doses influenced sweet potato cultivars. The dose of 120 kg ha-1 promoted increments in the parameters pH, SS, TA, and SS/TA ratio for the cultivar BRS Cuia. The same dose promoted an increase in total soluble sugars for the cultivar BRS Amélia. P dose of 240 kg ha-1 promoted higher levels of flavonoids and anthocyanins in the cultivar Paraná, and there was an increase in carotenoid content at the dose of 60 kg ha-1. world diversity fertilization nutrients product Paraná Amélia Cuia pH SS , (SS) TA (TA) SSTA evaluated 12 ha1 ha 1 ha- 24 6 ha1. 1. ABSTRACT The limited temporal completeness and taxonomic accuracy of species lists, made available in a traditional manner in scientific publications, has always represented a problem. These lists are invariably limited to a few taxonomic groups and do not represent up-to-date knowledge of all species and classifications. In this context, the Brazilian megadiverse fauna is no exception, and the Catálogo Taxonômico da Fauna do Brasil (CTFB) (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/), made public in 2015, represents a database on biodiversity anchored on a list of valid and expertly recognized scientific names of animals in Brazil. The CTFB is updated in near real time by a team of more than 800 specialists. By January 1, 2024, the CTFB compiled 133,691 nominal species, with 125,138 that were considered valid. Most of the valid species were arthropods (82.3%, with more than 102,000 species) and chordates (7.69%, with over 11,000 species). These taxa were followed by a cluster composed of Mollusca (3,567 species), Platyhelminthes (2,292 species), Annelida (1,833 species), and Nematoda (1,447 species). All remaining groups had less than 1,000 species reported in Brazil, with Cnidaria (831 species), Porifera (628 species), Rotifera (606 species), and Bryozoa (520 species) representing those with more than 500 species. Analysis of the CTFB database can facilitate and direct efforts towards the discovery of new species in Brazil, but it is also fundamental in providing the best available list of valid nominal species to users, including those in science, health, conservation efforts, and any initiative involving animals. The importance of the CTFB is evidenced by the elevated number of citations in the scientific literature in diverse areas of biology, law, anthropology, education, forensic science, and veterinary science, among others. publications problem uptodate up date classifications context exception (CTFB http//fauna.jbrj.gov.br/, httpfaunajbrjgovbr http //fauna.jbrj.gov.br/ , jbrj gov br (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/) 2015 Brazil 80 specialists 1 2024 133691 133 691 133,69 125138 125 138 125,13 82.3%, 823 82 3 (82.3% 102000 102 000 102,00 7.69%, 769 7 69 (7.69% 11000 11 11,00 . 3,567 3567 567 (3,56 2,292 2292 2 292 (2,29 1,833 1833 833 (1,83 1,447 1447 447 (1,44 1000 1,00 831 (83 628 (62 606 (60 520 (52 50 users science health biology law anthropology education others http//fauna.jbrj.gov.br/ faunajbrjgovbr //fauna.jbrj.gov.br (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/ 201 8 202 13369 13 133,6 12513 12 125,1 82.3% (82.3 10200 10 00 102,0 7.69% 76 6 (7.69 1100 11,0 3,56 356 56 (3,5 2,29 229 29 (2,2 1,83 183 83 (1,8 1,44 144 44 (1,4 100 1,0 (8 62 (6 60 52 (5 5 http//fauna.jbrj.gov.br (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br 20 1336 133, 1251 125, 82.3 (82. 1020 0 102, 7.69 (7.6 110 11, 3,5 35 (3, 2,2 22 (2, 1,8 18 (1, 1,4 14 4 ( 82. ABSTRACT: Rabies is a fatal viral disease that affects animals and humans and is widespread among national ecological systems. We describe the anatomopathological and immunohistochemical findings of a case of rabies in a jaguarundi (Herpailurus yagouaroundi) found in a rural peri-domestic area after showing aggression and attacking two animals. Histopathology of brain tissue showed lymphoplasmacytic meningoencephalitis associated with intracytoplasmic eosinophilic inclusion bodies in neurons, gliosis and neuronophagia. The diagnosis of rabies was based on the lesions and confirmed by immunohistochemistry and qPCR. In Brazil, rabies in wild felines of the genus Puma has only been described in animals through serological examinations. The pathological findings are essential for the diagnosis and elucidation of the participation of this species in the wild cycle of the disease, as well as in the maintenance and conservation of the balance of wild fauna. ABSTRACT This study aimed to analyze the physical characteristics of eggs from free-range hens of the Sura variety. One hundred eggs underwent assessment of various physical parameters, namely, whole egg weight, equatorial diameter, egg height, shell color, presence of cracks via candling, air chamber height, yolk color, presence of flesh and blood spots, albumen width and length, yolk diameter, yolk weight, and shell weight. Additional analyses included determining the albumen weight (calculated by subtracting the weights of the shell and yolk from the total egg weight), percentages of egg components, shape index, and shell index. Statistical analyses were conducted using GLM SAS software (SAS Institute). The results revealed distinct physical traits; eggs from the Sura variety, regardless of size class (large or small), typically have a more rounded shape, light brown shells, and more orange yolks. These findings confirm that Sura variety eggs possess unique characteristics that could appeal to specific market niches, potentially promoting the production of these birds, supporting biodiversity, and aiding in the prevention of their extinction. freerange free range parameters namely diameter height color candling spots length calculated , weight) components index Institute. Abstract Background: Transthyretin amyloidosis (ATTR) is an infiltrative disease caused by abnormal protein deposition mainly in the heart and peripheral nervous system. When it affects the heart, the disease presents as restrictive cardiomyopathy; when it affects the peripheral and autonomic nervous system, it manifests as polyneuropathy, and is called familial amyloid polyneuropathy (FAP). There are two ATTR subtypes: wild-type ATTR, where there is no mutation, and mutant ATTR (ATTRm), which is characterized by a mutation in the gene encoding the transthyretin protein (TTR). In both subtypes, cardiac involvement is the major marker of poor prognosis. Objectives: To assess the prevalence of subclinical cardiac involvement in a sample of patients with TTR gene mutation by using pyrophosphate scintigraphy and strain echocardiography; to compare scintigraphy and strain findings; to evaluate the association between neurological manifestations (FAP) and subclinical cardiac involvement; and to analyze whether there is an association between any specific mutation and cardiac involvement. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study with carriers of the TTR gene mutation, without cardiovascular symptoms or changes in electrocardiographic or conventional echocardiographic parameters. All patients underwent pyrophosphate scintigraphy and strain echocardiography. Subclinical cardiac involvement was defined as a Perugini score ≥ 2, heart-to-contralateral lung (H/CL) ratio ≥ 1.5 at 1 h, H/CL ≥1.3 at 3 h, or global longitudinal strain (GLS) ≤ −17%. Descriptive and analytical analyses were performed and Fisher's exact test and Mann–Whitney test were applied. A value of p < 0.05 was considered significant. Results: The 23 patients evaluated had a median age of 51 years (IQR 37–57 years), 15 (65.2%) were female, 12 (52.2%) were Pardo, nine (39.1%) had systemic arterial hypertension, and nine (39.1%) had a previous diagnosis of FAP. Of the nine patients with FAP, 8 (34.8%) were on tafamidis. The associated mutations were Val142IIe, Val50Met, and IIe127Val. The median GLS in the sample was −19% (−16% to −20%). Of the 23 patients, nine (39.1%; 95% CI = 29–49%) met criteria for cardiac involvement, six (26%) by the GLS-based criteria only. There was no association between having FAP and being an asymptomatic carrier, as assessed by strain echocardiography and pyrophosphate scintigraphy (p = 0.19). The prevalence of systemic arterial hypertension, diabetes mellitus, dyslipidemia, smoking, and reduced GLS did not differ between groups. Septal e’ wave velocity was the only variable that significantly differed between individuals with and without reduced GLS, with an area under the ROC curve of 0.80 (95% CI = 0.61–0.98, p = 0.027). The best diagnostic accuracy was achieved with a septal e’ velocity ≤ 8.5 cm/s. There was no association between mutation type and preclinical cardiac involvement, nor between tafamidis use and lower degree of cardiac involvement (37.5% versus 40.0%, p = 0.90). Conclusion: Subclinical cardiac involvement was common in a sample of TTR mutation carriers without cardiac involvement. Reduced left ventricular GLS was the most frequent finding. There was no association between the presence of amyloid polyneuropathy and subclinical cardiac involvement. Type of mutation was not associated with early cardiac involvement. In this sample, the use of tafamidis 20 mg/day was not associated with a lower prevalence of subclinical cardiac involvement. Fundamento (ATTR manifestase manifesta autônomo apresentase apresenta . Abstract This study evaluated the mechanical properties and the chemical and thermal characteristics of low-density polyethylene (LDPE) nanocomposites reinforced with graphene oxide for manufacturing via 3D printing. LDPE nanocomposites with different graphene oxide (GO) loadings (0.5% and 1.5%) were processed by a single-screw extruder. To characterize the pre-injected material, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and thermal characterization with thermogravimetry (TGA) were used. The injected material was also characterized with mechanical impact and traction tests. The results showed that incorporating GO into the polymeric matrix added hydroxyl groups to the matrix structure, with a 39.13% increase in Young's modulus for LDPE-1.5%wtGO samples. Mechanical tests of 3D printed samples showed that, with an increase in the amount of GO in the polymer matrix, the composite loses ductility, enabling its use in 3D printing technologies and thus encouraging new studies on printed materials for various applications. lowdensity low density (LDPE D (GO 0.5% 05 0 5 (0.5 1.5% 15 1 singlescrew single screw extruder preinjected pre FTIR (FTIR TGA (TGA used structure 3913 39 13 39.13 Youngs Young s LDPE1.5%wtGO LDPE15wtGO LDPEwtGO 1.5%wtGO wtGO ductility applications 0.5 (0. 1.5 391 3 39.1 LDPE1 15wtGO 0. Short-chain chiral esters are important constituents in natural fruit flavors, as well as in food and pharmaceutical industries. Different chemical and bio-catalytic routes are used for their synthesis, but the use of simultaneous techniques has not been much explored, as combinatorial synthesis and bio-catalysis in continuous-flow systems. Here, the objective was to synthesize chiral esters typically found in fruit flavors, to obtain chemical libraries with high conversion and enantiomeric excess, using combinations of these three techniques. Combinatorial synthesis in continuous-flow coil-type reactors with fix bed was used in the esterification of the secondary alcohols 2-butanol (1a), 2-pentanol (1b), 3-hexanol (1c), 2-heptanol (1d) and 2-octanol (1e) with acetic (2) and propanoic (3) acids. A surface-response method was applied to optimize the reaction conditions. Conversions were above 88% after 60 min for the reaction with chemical catalysts in continuous-flow reactors compared to 85%, but after 120 min, when conventional batch processes were used. By applying a biocatalyst, a chemical library of R acetates was prepared, with conversions over 48% after 48 h for batch and 40% after only 70 min for continuous flow reactions. It was observed that both enzymatic and homogeneous chemical catalysis showed to be viable for the chiral esters. Gamma radiation is an effective method for microbial decontamination of plant materials. However, this treatment can induce changes in the chemical structure of plant constituents. Stem barks of Luehea ochrophylla were exposed to different doses of gamma radiation to evaluate decontamination efficiency and changes in chemical composition of plant material including phenolic fraction. The major microbial contaminants of non-irradiated samples were isolated and identified as the fungal species Eurotium chevalieri L. Mangin and Lecythophora decumbens. The dose of 5.0 kGy was effective to achieve total decontamination of the stem barks of L. ochrophylla. The formation of free radicals was verified in the plant material using electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy, and was supposed to be related to the trans-aconitic acid, a plant constituent. It was the only secondary metabolite to have its concentration significantly altered with radiation in phenolic fraction, as observed by liquid chromatography with diode array detector coupled to mass spectroscopy (LC-DAD-MS). The trans-aconitic acid was isolated and exposed to gamma radiation in aqueous medium. Its concentration decreased after exposition to a dose of 3.0 kGy, corroborating the supposition of its degradation. Nb2O5 is a promising photocatalyst for degradation of organic pollutants and production of H2 (renewable and green fuel) from water is an alternative to overcome environmental and energy concerns. Therefore, the effect of Nb precursor and synthesis method on the Nb2O5 physical-chemical properties and photocatalytic performance were investigated in this work. X-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy results showed that synthesis parameters had a significant impact on the structural properties of the materials obtained. The synthesis parameters were able to tune Nb2O5 crystalline phase, morphology and specific surface area. Nb2O5 sample obtained by hydrothermal method resulted in materials with smaller size and homogeneous particles compared to the other samples, which resulted in a higher specific surface area (200 m2 g-1) and surface hydroxylation. Nb2O5 samples were active to promote both the degradation of Rhodamine B and amiloride, the specific surface area and surface hydroxylation play a key role in the performance of the materials. The most active sample for organic pollutant degradation was also active in H2 production, additionally, the decoration with Pt nanoparticles increased its performance. This work describes the effect of synthesis parameters of Nb2O5 on its photocatalytic properties and demonstrates the potential application of this material in heterogeneous photocatalysis. ABSTRACT The use growth regulators from the cytokinins and auxins group has been shown to increase the productivity of certain crops, as they may be involved in the expression of plant sex, although little is known about the action of auxin IBA and cytokinin CPPU on the fruiting of squash, as well as the interaction between both, which makes this field of study promising. Thus, the objective of this study was to induce the fruiting in Atlas squash, by means of different forms of application and proportions of cytokinin and auxin and to evaluate their effects on the physical-chemical characteristics of the fruits. The treatments were composed of six proportions associated with growth regulators and of two forms of application. The experimental design was a randomized block design with four replicates. At 72 days after transplanting, growth and fruit quality analyses were performed. The behavior of the hormones is modulated by their concentration and place of application, and the effect may be beneficial or not. The proportions 50/50% via leaf and 75/25% via ovary were the ones that increased the growth and parameters of fruit quality. ABSTRACT Phosphorus (P) is a primordial mineral nutrient for plants, as it is directly linked to physiological and biochemical processes essential for plant maintenance, and can influence the production and final quality of the product. Furthermore, P favors good root development, which can benefit sweet potato crop. Thus, the objective of the work is to assess the influence of increasing doses of P on the production and physical quality of sweet potatoes in two growing seasons in a semi-arid environment. The experiments were carried out from April to August 2021 (season 1) and from December 2021 to April 2022 (season 2) at the Rafael Fernandes Experimental Farm - UFERSA, Mossoró, RN, BR. The design was randomized blocks, with four replications. The treatments consisted of five doses of P (0; 60; 120; 180 and 240 kg ha-1 of P2O5) via fertigation and tested on the sweet potato cultivar Paraná. After harvesting the roots, the number and yield of roots (commercial, non-commercial and total), the average mass and the percentage of commercial roots were evaluated. Commercial roots were evaluated for firmness, elasticity and cooking time. The P doses influenced the production characteristics, mainly at the dose of 60 kg ha-1 of P2O5, which promoted increases in the yield of commercial roots. The doses of P promoted the reduction of firmness for both growing seasons. A dose of 180 kg ha-1 of P2O5 led to the shortest cooking time for the second growing season. ABSTRACT The objective was to evaluate the effects of pulse and continuous fertigation on the accumulation and export of nutrients by cowpea. The experimental design adopted was randomized blocks with 12 treatments distributed in a 5 x 2 + 2 factorial scheme, with four replicates, with five ETc replacement depths (40, 60, 80, 100 and 120%), combined with two types of fertigation application (pulse and continuous), plus two additional treatments under pulse (control 1) and continuous (control 2) irrigation with 100% ETc depth and conventional fertilization. The analyzed nutrients were N, P, K, Ca, Mg, S, Fe, Cu, Mn and Zn. Highest accumulations and exports of nutrients were obtained with pulse fertigation depths lower than 100% ETc. Conventional fertilization and pulse irrigation with 100% ETc depth promoted greater accumulation and export of nutrients compared to continuous irrigation. The descending order of nutrient accumulation for both types of fertigation application (pulse and continuous) was: N > K > Ca > P > Mg > S > Fe > Mn > Zn > Cu. The descending order of nutrient export by cowpea pods and grains was N > P > Ca > K > Mg > S > Fe > Zn > Mn > Cu for pulse fertigation and N > P > Ca > Mg > S > K > Fe > Zn > Mn > Cu for continuous fertigation. 1 scheme replicates 40, 40 (40 60 80 10 120%, 120 120% , 120%) continuous, control 4 (4 6 8 (

Abstract Introduction The aberrant expression of the inhibitor of DNA binding (ID1) gene has been frequently associated with the leukemogenesis and prognostication acute myeloid leukemia (AML), although its clinical importance has never been investigated in patients treated outside well-controlled clinical trials. Methods Using quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction, we investigated the role of the ID1 expression in the clinical outcomes of non-selected patients with acute myeloid leukemia treated in a real-life setting. Results Overall, 128 patients were enrolled. Patients with high ID1 expression had a lower 3-year overall survival (OS) rate of 9%, with the 95% confidence interval (95%CI) at 3 to 20%, compared to patients with a low ID1 expression (22%, 95%CI: 11 - 34%) (p = 0.037), although these findings did not retain significance after adjustment (hazard ratio (HR): 1.5, 95%CI: 0.98 - 2.28; p = 0.057). The ID1 expression had no impact on post-induction outcomes (disease-free survival, p = 0.648; cumulative incidence of relapse, p = 0.584). Conclusions Although we are aware thar our data are confronted with many variables that cannot be fully controlled, including drug unavailability, risk-adapted treatment, comorbidities and the time from diagnosis to treatment initiation, we are firm believers that such an initiative can provide more realistic data on understudied populations, in particular those from low- and middle-income countries.
