RESUMO: Botulismo é causado pela ingestão de toxinas pré-fromadas produzidas por Clostridium botulinum. Este estudo descrevre um surto de botulismo tipo D em um rebanho bovino, com alta taxa de mortalidade (67%), devido ao consumo de silagem mal acondicionada. Os bovinos afetados apresentaram curso clínico hiperagudo e agudo de paralisia flácida progressiva. Cinco animais foram necropsiados e não foram visualizadas alterações macroscópicas e microscópicas. Embora a toxina não tenha sido detectada no alimento, a fonte mais provável de contaminação foi considerada a silagem armazenada inadequadamente. O diagnóstico de botulismo foi baseado nos achados clínicos, epidemiológicos e pela detecção da toxina botulínica no conteúdo intestinal de dois bovinos. ABSTRACT: Botulism is a condition caused by the ingestion of pre-formed toxins produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. This study described an outbreak of type D botulism with a high mortality rate (67%) in a cattle herd, caused by the consumption of fermented silage. The affected cattle presented with a hyperacute to acute clinical course with progressive flaccid paralysis. Five animals underwent necropsy with no significant macroscopic and microscopic alterations. A most probable source of contamination was deemed to be an inadequately stored silage; although, the toxin was not detected in the feed. The diagnosis of botulism was based on both clinical and epidemiological findings and the detection of botulinum toxin in the intestinal contents of two of the affected cattle. The emergence of the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) stands for being the most serious epidemic (so far) of the 21st century. However, only a few computational studies have investigated the molecular mechanisms underlying the neutralization of the spike protein by antibodies of different classes. Hence, bioinformatic methods were employed to unravel the factors contributing to the remarkable neutralization capacity exhibited by specific antibodies. Initially, crystallographic structures of IgA monomeric / dimeric, IgG, and IgM antibodies binding with the receptor-binding domain region of the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein were retrieved. Subsequently, rigid molecular docking and molecular dynamic simulations were performed over 100 ns with explicit water solvation. Lastly, an energy decomposition was conducted to estimate the binding affinity using the last frames from molecular dynamics. The results revealed a higher binding affinity for both monomeric and dimeric forms of IgA antibodies against the spike protein. Additionally, a greater number of hydrogen bonds were observed during their interaction with the spike protein, as well as greater structural instability along the time and especially a more thermodynamically favorable interaction affinity. Abstract The objective of this research was to evaluate the quality of panels produced with different proportions of Pinus oocarpa wood particles and industrial cigarette waste. The wood came from an experimental field and the cigarette waste was obtained through a donation. The particles were mixed in different proportions (100% pine particles, 90% pine particles and 10% cigarette particles, 80% pine particles and 20% cigarette particles, 70% pine particles and 30% cigarette particles). Abstract Objective The current study delves into the accessibility of genetic evaluations for individuals with orofacial clefts (OC), comparing data between genetics and treatment centers across Brazil. Methods This cross-sectional retrospective study analyzed primary data from 1463 OC individuals registered in the Brazilian Database of Craniofacial Anomalies (BDCA) between 2008 and 2018 without age or sex selection. Diagnostic exam results stemming from research projects until 2023 were considered. Results Of the 1463 individuals with typical OC, 987 were non-syndromic, 462 were syndromic (SOC), 10 presented atypical forms, and three were not specified OC cases. The average age for accessing laboratory diagnosis was 8.5 years among SOC individuals. Notably, more SOC cases were registered in genetics centers than treatment and rehabilitation centers (37.1 % vs. 29 %, p = 0.0015). Those originating from genetics centers accessed diagnosis at an average age of 7.3 years, while those from treatment and rehabilitation centers experienced delays with an average age of 10.7 years (p = 0.0581). Conclusions Irrespective of the center of origin, the data highlight delayed diagnosis and challenges in accessing genetic tests for the syndromic group. Given the widespread reliance on the public health system by most of the Brazilian population, disseminating this data can significantly contribute to shaping an informed perspective on healthcare access. The proposed study conducts a comparative analysis of the results from two empirical research projects investigating the activities of artistic and cultural collectives in the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Considering the political and social events, as well as the changes that have occurred in the artistic landscape of the city over the past few decades, the research highlights how art institutions have become an integral part of these transformations. This results in unique dynamics that favor the emergence and expansion of collective actions in different areas of the city. Although the investigations indicate that this combination of factors has had a widespread impact throughout the city, the motivations for forming artistic collectives vary significantly between central and peripheral areas. Furthermore, the institutionalization or lack thereof of these collectives presents distinct justifications and social contexts, reflecting the particularities of each location. Nevertheless, the politicization of art and the claim for urban space emerge as common points among these collectives, illustrating the intersection between art and social activism.

A proposta apresentada realiza uma análise comparativa dos resultados de duas pesquisas empíricas que investigam as atividades de coletivos artísticos e culturais na cidade do Rio de Janeiro, Brasil. Considerando os eventos políticos e sociais, bem como as mudanças ocorridas no cenário artístico da cidade nas últimas décadas, a pesquisa destaca como as instituições de arte se tornaram parte integrante dessas transformações. Isso resulta em dinâmicas únicas que favorecem o surgimento e a expansão de ações coletivas em diferentes áreas da cidade. Embora as investigações indiquem que essa combinação de fatores teve um impacto abrangente em toda a cidade, as motivações para a formação de grupos artísticos coletivos variam significativamente entre as áreas centrais e periféricas. Além disso, a institucionalização ou não desses coletivos apresenta justificativas e contextos sociais distintos, refletindo as particularidades de cada local. Contudo, a politização da arte e a reivindicação do espaço urbano emergem como pontos comuns entre esses coletivos, evidenciando a intersecção entre arte e ativismo social.

Abstract This article discusses the concept, design, and contracting processes of the first phase of the TOMAK program (acronym for To’os Ba Moris Di’ak, translated as Farming for Prosperity in English, and Agricultura para Prosperidade in Portuguese). The program was funded by the Australian government and implemented in Timor-Leste between 2016 and 2021. We argue that these processes elevate the program to the status of a commodity, accessed in the global market by specific mechanisms of competition and subject to certain fetishes. The program’s management practices reflect the new role that nation-states have played under the dominance of neoliberalism: as catalysts of competition on multiple fronts. Resumen Este estudio tuvo como objetivo determinar las concentraciones salivales de interleucina (IL)-1β, IL-2, IL-10, IL-23, factor de crecimiento transformante (TGF)-β y factor de necrosis tumoral (TNF)-α, nitrato (subproducto de la oxidación del óxido nítrico) y cortisol en pacientes con liquen plano oral (OLP). En este estudio transversal se incluyeron veinte pacientes diagnosticados con OLP y 20 voluntarios sanos (HV) del mismo sexo. Abstract This study aimed to determine salivary concentrations of interleukin (IL)-1β, IL-2, IL-10, IL- 23, transforming growth factor (TGF)-β, tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, nitrate (a by-product of nitric oxide oxidation), and cortisol in patients with oral lichen planus (OLP). Twenty patients diagnosed with OLP and 20 sex-matched healthy volunteers (HV) were included in this cross-sectional study. Unstimulated whole saliva was collected in the morning. Salivary cytokine and cortisol concentrations were determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA). Nitrate was measured in a nitric oxide analyzer. We found higher salivary concentrations of IL-2 (p<0.003), IL-23 ( p<0.04), and TGF-β (p=0.05) in patients with OLP compared to HV. No significant differences were found in salivary levels of TNF-α, IL-1β, or IL-10. Nitrate concentrations were markedly increased in OLP patients (1,227.0 ± 738.8 µM/mg total protein) when compared to HV (261.6 ± 166.8 µM/mg; p<0.0001). Salivary cortisol levels were also higher in OLP patients (2.79 ± 1.39 vs. 1.94 ±1.21 ng/mg; p<0.048). Resumo Objetivou-se identificar fatores associados à atenção à saúde infantil na atenção primária à saúde (APS), na perspectiva das ações preconizadas pela Rede de Cuidados à Pessoa Deficiência (RCPCD), quanto à identificação precoce de deficiências e acompanhamento do desenvolvimento infantil. Trata-se de estudo transversal, multicêntrico, realizado em oito estados brasileiros. A coleta de dados envolveu a aplicação de questionário estruturado com profissionais de saúde de nível superior atuantes na APS, com amostra aleatória estratificada por estado e município. Foram realizadas regressões de Poisson com variância robusta para duas variáveis resposta. Entre os 1.488 trabalhadores que compuseram a amostra final, 63,6% realizam ações de identificação precoce de deficiências e 49% efetuam acompanhamento do desenvolvimento infantil. As equipes de Saúde da Família (eSF) identificam e acompanham mais do que as equipes do modelo tradicional, e os Núcleos Ampliados de Saúde da Família e Atenção Básica realizam mais ações de acompanhamento do que essas equipes. Abstract The aim of this study was to identify factors associated with early identification of disabilities and developmental follow-up of children in primary health care (PHC) services under the Care Network for People with Disabilities (RCPCD). We conducted a cross-sectional study using data from a multicenter study undertaken in eight states. The data were collected using a structured questionnaire answered by PHC professionals with degree-level qualifications selected using random sampling and stratified by state and municipality. Poisson regression with robust variance was performed for the two outcomes. Resumo Fundamento A frequência cardíaca (FC) na insuficiência cardíaca com fração de ejeção reduzida (ICFEr) e ritmo sinusal apresenta valor prognóstico. Entretanto, o método de mensuração é debatido na literatura. Objetivos Comparar em pacientes com ICFEr e ritmo sinusal a FC no Holter com três eletrocardiogramas de repouso: ECG1, ECG2 e ECG3. Metodologia Estudo transversal com 135 pacientes portadores de insuficiência cardíaca com fração de ejeção ≤ 40% e ritmo sinusal. A FC foi avaliada por ECG e Holter. Análises incluíram o coeficiente de correlação intraclasse (CCI), regressão robusta, raiz do erro quadrático médio, Bland-Altman e a área sobre a curva ROC. Adotou-se nível de significância de 0,05 e o ajuste de Bonferroni-Holm para minimizar erros tipo I. Resultados As medianas [intervalo interquartil] de idade e fração de ejeção foram de 65 anos [16] e 30% [11], respectivamente. O CCI dos 3 ECG foi de 0,922 (intervalo de confiança de 95%: 0,892; 0,942). Abstract Background Heart rate (HR) has shown prognostic value in patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) and sinus rhythm. However, the method of measurement is debated in the literature. Objectives To compare HR on Holter with 3 resting electrocardiograms (ECG1, ECG2, and ECG3) in patients with HFrEF and sinus rhythm. Methods This was a cross-sectional study with 135 patients with heart failure with ejection fraction ≤ 40% and sinus rhythm. HR was assessed by ECG and Holter. Analyses included intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC), robust regression, root mean squared error, Bland-Altman, and area under the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve. A significance level of 0.05 and Bonferroni-Holm adjustment were adopted to minimize type I errors. Results The median [interquartile range] age and ejection fraction were 65 years [16] and 30% [11], respectively. The ICC of the 3 ECGs was 0.922 (95% confidence interval: 0.892; 0.942). The robust regression coefficients for ECG1 and ECG3 were 0.20 (95% confidence interval: 0.12; 0.29) and 0.21 (95% confidence interval: 0.06; 0.36). The robust R2 was 0.711 (95% confidence interval: 0.628; 0.76). In the Bland-Altman agreement analysis, the limits of agreement were −17.0 (95% confidence interval: −19.0; −15.0) and 32.0 (95% confidence interval: 30.0; 34.0). ABSTRACT Studies on therapeutic itineraries reveal models of care and decisions taken by people in situations of illness and can contribute to the planning of effective health policies and services, especially in emergencies such as the COVID-19 pandemic. The aim of this research was to describe the itineraries of patients hospitalized for COVID-19 in a public hospital in the Federal District and explore associations with social determinants of health. This is an integrated case study, with triangulation of quantitative and qualitative evidence obtained from the analysis of raw data from a cross-sectional observational study with 233 adults hospitalized between May/2020 and December/2021. The majority were men, elderly, black or brown, with low income and education levels and multiple comorbidities, who sought care in specialized care and obtained quick access to the health system. The factors that influenced the choice of the first service sought were: occupation, region of residence, economic class and education. The determinants of ease of access were: type of service first sought, severity of the case and socioeconomic context. The results confirm the influence of social determinants on illness experiences and can support reflections related to the organization of access to the SUS in health emergencies.

O objetivo desta pesquisa foi descrever os itinerários terapêuticos de pacientes hospitalizados por covid-19 em um hospital público do Distrito Federal e explorar associações com determinantes sociais da saúde. Trata-se de um estudo de caso integrado, com triangulação de evidências quantitativas e qualitativas obtidas a partir da análise do banco de dados de um estudo observacional transversal com 233 adultos internados entre maio/2020 e dezembro/2021. A maioria homens, idosos, pretos ou pardos, com baixo nível de renda e escolaridade e múltiplas comorbidades, que procuraram atendimento na atenção especializada e conseguiram acesso rápido ao sistema de saúde. Os fatores que influenciaram a escolha do primeiro serviço foram: ocupação, região de moradia, classe econômica e escolaridade. Já os determinantes da facilidade de acesso foram: tipo de serviço buscado primeiro, gravidade do caso e contexto socioeconômico. Os resultados confirmam a influência de determinantes sociais nas experiências de adoecimento e podem subsidiar reflexões relacionadas à organização do acesso ao SUS em emergências sanitárias.

Resumo O presente artigo objetiva analisar as disputas em torno da categorização do direito de propriedade privada em Alagoas a partir dos conflitos agrários julgados na Vara Agrária do estado. Criada em 2009, a Vara Agrária de Alagoas é destinada exclusivamente para a conciliação e o julgamento de conflitos agrários no estado. Nela, não raro, as manifestações dos movimentos sem terra são enquadradas a partir da ideia de ameaça e dano à propriedade e ao direito de propriedade, em ações de reintegração de posse ajuizadas por proprietários de terra. Por outro lado, os movimentos sociais sem terra têm reivindicado, cada vez mais, espaços para os seus próprios enquadramentos sobre direito de propriedade e uso da terra, especialmente a partir do argumento da função social da propriedade. Para a realização do estudo, utilizamos a teoria da mobilização do direito (legal mobilization theory), a fim de investigar a estrutura de oportunidades legais e os recursos disponíveis, além de elementos dos processos de enquadramento (framing process). A teoria da mobilização do direito nos auxilia na compreensão da relação entre movimentos sociais, direito e Poder Judiciário. O artigo está ancorado na análise de 241 processos judiciais que tramitaram na Vara Agrária durante o período de 2009 a 2014, bem como entrevistas com magistrados e integrantes dos movimentos sociais sem terra em Alagoas. A pesquisa abrangeu a atuação de três magistrados titulares. A hipótese principal do artigo é que a vara se transforma em um espaço de tensões, nos quais os diferentes enquadramentos estão em colisão na busca por influenciar a decisão judicial, ao mesmo tempo em que as decisões judiciais impactam a dinâmica dos conflitos agrários em Alagoas e a própria leitura e entendimento dos movimentos sociais sobre a propriedade. Abstract This article aims to analyze the disputes surrounding the categorization of property rights in Alagoas, focusing on agrarian conflicts adjudicated in the state's agrarian court. Established in 2009, the agrarian court of Alagoas is exclusively dedicated to the conciliation and adjudication of agrarian conflicts in the state. In this court, it is common for the actions of landless movements to be framed as threats and damages to property and property rights in repossession lawsuits filed by landowners. On the other hand, landless social movements have increasingly sought to assert their own perspectives on property rights and land use, particularly using the argument of the social function of property. To conduct the study, we will utilize legal mobilization theory to investigate the structure of legal opportunities and available resources, along with elements of framing processes. Legal mobilization theory helps us understand the relationship between social movements, law, and the judiciary. The article is based on the analysis of 241 judicial cases processed in the agrarian court between 2009 and 2014, as well as interviews with judges and members of landless social movements in Alagoas. The research encompassed the actions of three main judges. ABSTRACT Studies on therapeutic itineraries reveal models of care and decisions taken by people in situations of illness and can contribute to the planning of effective health policies and services, especially in emergencies such as the COVID-19 pandemic. The aim of this research was to describe the itineraries of patients hospitalized for COVID-19 in a public hospital in the Federal District and explore associations with social determinants of health. This is an integrated case study, with triangulation of quantitative and qualitative evidence obtained from the analysis of raw data from a cross-sectional observational study with 233 adults hospitalized between May/2020 and December/2021. The majority were men, elderly, black or brown, with low income and education levels and multiple comorbidities, who sought care in specialized care and obtained quick access to the health system. The factors that influenced the choice of the first service sought were: occupation, region of residence, economic class and education. The determinants of ease of access were: type of service first sought, severity of the case and socioeconomic context.
