Faced with the global challenge of water treatment, the investigation of the removal of endocrine disruptor compounds (EDCs) in aquatic environments is essential to protect human and animals health. In this study, a novel nanocomposite was prepared from biochar from agricultural waste (corn cob) and maghemite (γ-Fe2O3) nanoparticles, named PCCN, to remove four EDCs (triclosan, 17α-ethinylestradiol, methylparaben, and bisphenol A) from aqueous solutions by adsorption. For the characterization of PCCN, the advanced techniques Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Brunauer-Emmett-Teller analysis (BET), pH of point of zero charge (pHpzc), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and thermogravimetry (TGA) were employed. Competitive adsorption equilibrium studies of EDCs were performed with PCCN and compared to unmodified biochar (PCC). The pH effect showed that optimal adsorption of EDCs was at pH 8.0 for PCC and pH 6.0 for PCCN. The salt concentration did not influence EDCs in the adsorption. In the adsorption isotherm, the results fitted the Freundlich isotherm model (R2 > 0.903) and the adsorption kinetics were well described by the pseudo-second-order model (R2 > 0.985). Furthermore, the desorption studies indicated that the PCCN can be reused. RESUMO: O uso de métodos não destrutivos e de baixo custo para determinação de área foliar tem ganhado importantes aplicações. Os objetivos da pesquisa foram (i) propor um método não destrutivo para estimar a área foliar da cultura da mamona e (ii) construir equações que estimem com precisão e rapidez a área foliar da espécie. Foram coletadas mil folhas sadias e expandidas de cinco cultivares de mamona (New Zealand Purple, Sipeal, Carmencita, Amarelo de Irecê e IAC-80), sendo coletadas 200 folhas de cada uma. O comprimento máximo, largura máxima e área foliar foram calculados para cada folha. Foi calculado o produto entre comprimento e largura (LW). Foram realizados testes com diferentes modelos de regressão linear e não linear entre área foliar e dimensões lineares das folhas de cada cultivar. ABSTRACT: Using non-destructive and low-cost methods to determine leaf area has gained important applications. The research objectives were (i) to propose a non-destructive method to estimate the leaf area of castor bean crops and (ii) to build equations that accurately and quickly estimate the leaf area of specie. One thousand healthy and expanded leaves of five castor bean cultivars (New Zealand Purple, Sipeal, Carmencita, Amarelo de Irecê, and IAC-80) were collected, and 200 leaves were collected from each. The maximum length, maximum width, and leaf area were calculated for each leaf. The product between length and width (LW) were calculated. We performed tests with different linear and non-linear regression models between leaf area and linear leaf dimensions of each cultivar. The models used were linear, linear without intercept, and power. RESUMO O objetivo da pesquisa foi avaliar a secagem da polpa de trapiá com a adição de aditivos de secagem, determinando a cinética de secagem e as propriedades termodinâmicas das amostras. ABSTRACT The objective of the research was to study the drying of trapiá pulp with the addition of drying aids, determining the drying kinetics and thermodynamic properties of the samples. Formulations of the pulp was treated with the additives monoglycerides, carboxymethylcellulose - CMC and guar gum in different combinations and concentrations (F1 - 0.5% CMC and 0.5% Monoglycerides; F2 - 0.5% Guar Gum and 0.5% Monoglycerides; and F3 - 0.25% Guar Gum, 0.5% CMC and 0.5% Monoglycerides) trapiá. RESUMO: O estudo de adaptabilidade, estabilidade e produtividade é importante para selecionar e recomendar genótipos superiores. Esse fato é particularmente válido para a introdução de cultivares de feijão comum no Rio de Janeiro, Brasil, cuja produção é ínfima e não atende a demanda interna. Assim, este trabalho teve como objetivo estimar parâmetros genéticos e ganhos de seleção e realizar uma seleção simultânea para adaptabilidade, estabilidade e produtividade de genótipos de feijão preto através de modelos mistos. O estudo foi realizado em três municípios do estado do Rio de Janeiro e em três anos agrícolas. Os ensaios foram instalados em delineamento de blocos casualizados com 11 genótipos e três repetições. Observou-se alta herdabilidade média (81%), acurácia seletiva (90%) e boas perspectivas de seleção. Também foram observados ganhos satisfatórios para a característica entre 1,03 e 9,49%. A seleção simultânea foi eficiente e permitiu selecionar duas linhagens de feijão preto CNFP (15290 e 15361) como sendo as mais produtivas, adaptáveis e estáveis e, portanto, têm potencial para serem lançadas como novas cultivares de feijão preto para o estado do Rio de Janeiro. ABSTRACT: The study of adaptability, stability, and productivity is essential for selecting and recommending superior genotypes. This fact is particularly the case for the introduction of common bean cultivars in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, whose production is negligible and does not meet the internal demand. Thus, this study estimated genetic parameters and selection gains and undertake a simultaneous selection for adaptability, stability, and productivity in black bean genotypes via mixed models. The investigation was carried out in three municipalities in the state of Rio de Janeiro during three crop years. The trials were set up in a randomized block design with 11 genotypes and three replications. High mean heritability (81%) and selection accuracy (90%), as well as good selection prospects, were observed. Gains between 1.03 and 9.49% were achieved for grain yield. Simultaneous selection was efficient, indicating two black bean lines (CNFP 15290 and CNFP 15361) as the most productive, adaptable, and stable. RESUMO: Este estudo explorou o uso exclusivo do ultrassom (US) para extrair proteínas das espinhas dorsais da carpa-capim (Ctenopharyngodon idella) em baixas temperaturas e examinou seu impacto na hidrofobicidade, solubilidade, perfil eletroforético e níveis de sulfidrilas. As espinhas dorsais foram tratadas com 35 e 130 kHz por 20, 30 e 40 minutos a 14 ºC, resultando em duas frações de proteínas: sólida (TPS) e líquida (TPL). O US aumentou o rendimento em comparação com a fração não sonificada. TPL (35 kHz) apresentou uma redução de 16% nos níveis totais e livres de sulfidrila e um aumento de 25% na hidrofobicidade. ABSTRACT: This study explored the use only of ultrasound (US) for extracting proteins from grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella) backbones at low temperature and examined its impact on hydrophobicity, solubility, electrophoretic profile, and sulfhydryl levels. Backbones were treated with 35 and 130 kHz for 20, 30, and 40 minutes at 14 ºC, resulting in two protein fractions: solid (TPS) and liquid (TPL). Abstract Background: Nurses need not only practical knowledge to apply Advanced Life Support (ALS) but also theoretical knowledge. Objectives: To assess nurses’ theoretical knowledge of ALS in the care of critically ill people and to examine the relationship between nurses’ theoretical knowledge of ALS in the care of critically ill people and their sociodemographic, academic, and professional variables. Methodology: A quantitative and descriptive-correlational study was conducted on 36 nurses selected through non-probabilistic convenience sampling. Results: In the applied questionnaire, the nurses achieved a correct answer rate of 73.53%. Statistically significant differences were found between specialist nurses and their knowledge of emergency drug administration [amiodarone (t = 4.292; p = 0.038); and atropine (t = 4.912; p = 0.027)] and capnography monitoring (t = 4.788; p = 0.029). Conclusion: Nurses showed good levels of theoretical knowledge of ALS, and practical refresher training every 3 months is recommended.

Objetivos: Avaliar o nível dos conhecimentos teóricos dos enfermeiros sobre SAV na prática de cuidados à pessoa em situação crítica (PSC) e relacionar o nível dos conhecimentos teóricos dos enfermeiros sobre SAV na prática de cuidados à PSC e as variáveis sociodemográficas, académicas e profissionais dos enfermeiros. Metodologia: Estudo quantitativo, descritivo-correlacional, onde participaram 36 enfermeiros selecionados através de uma técnica de amostragem não probabilística por conveniência. Resultados: Os enfermeiros apresentaram uma percentagem de respostas corretas de 73,53% no questionário aplicado. Evidenciaram-se diferenças estatisticamente significativas entre ser enfermeiro especialista e o conhecimento sobre a administração de fármacos de emergência [amiodarona (t = 4,292; p = 0,038); e atropina (t = 4,912; p = 0,027)] e a monitorização com capnografia (t = 4,788; p = 0,029). Conclusão: Os enfermeiros revelaram bons níveis de conhecimentos teóricos sobre SAV, sugerindo-se uma atualização da formação prática a cada 3 meses.

Metodología: Estudio cuantitativo, descriptivo-correlacional, en el que participaron 36 enfermeros seleccionados mediante una técnica no probabilística de muestreo por conveniencia. Assim, este trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar a eficácia do uso do resíduo do caulim substituindo total ou parcialmente a bentonita, na formulação de Mário Mendonça de Oliveira, para a limpeza de superfícies pétreas. Abstract The conservation of cultural heritage needs to be aligned with current sustainability policies. Abstract The technique of bending wood by vaporization presents itself as a viable option for curvilinear structural projects, such as gridshells. Coniferous woods are often used in roof structures because, in addition to the desired relationship between mechanical strength and density, they allow the complete treatment of the cross-section of the piece. RESUMO O objetivo deste estudo foi identificar as fases de plastocrono em cultivares de soja com hábito de crescimento determinado e indeterminado. Os experimentos foram conduzidos no período de 2010/2011 a 2022/2023 em quatro locais do estado do Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil, com 25 cultivares de soja com hábito de crescimento determinado (6) e indeterminado (19). Este estudo buscou dividir o plastocrono em fases durante o período de emissão de nós da soja. Em cultivares irrigadas de hábito de crescimento determinado, o plastocrono apresenta duas fases, a fase inicial de 59,7 °C dia nó-1 e a fase final de 65,7 °C dia nó-1. Em ambientes não irrigados, não há diferença entre as fases inicial e final do plastocrono. ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to identify plastochron phases in soybean cultivars with determinate and indeterminate growth habits. Experiments were conducted from 2010/2011 to 2022/2023 at four locations in Rio Grande do Sul state (RS), Brazil, using 25 soybean cultivars with determinate (6) and indeterminate (19) growth habits. This study divided the plastochron into phases during the soybean node emission stage. In irrigated cultivars with a determinate growth habit, the plastochron has an early and late phase of 59.7 and 65.7 °C day node-1, respectively. In rainfed (non-irrigated) environments, there is no difference between the early and late plastochron phases. Resumo A tuberculose é uma doença com grande heterogeneidade de apresentações e clinicamente desafiante, o que pode levar a atrasos no diagnóstico com consequências graves e potencialmente fatais. A forma mais prevalente da doença é pulmonar. O caso apresentado tem características únicas, pois descreve um caso de tuberculose miliar numa adolescente imunocompetente vacinada com a vacina do Bacilo de Calmette-Guerin, e pretende alertar para a importância de manter um elevado índice de suspeição perante uma radiografia de tórax normal no início da doença e uma tomografia craniana normal no contexto de meningite tuberculosa. Salienta ainda a importância de considerar a tuberculose no diagnóstico diferencial de febre de origem indeterminada com perda ponderal, mesmo quando não existe uma ligação epidemiológica identificada.

Abstract Tuberculosis is a challenging diagnosis with marked clinical heterogeneity that can lead to diagnostic delay and serious and potentially life-threatening problems. The most prevalent form of the disease is pulmonary tuberculosis. The present case has unique features as in that it describes a case of miliary tuberculosis in an immunocompetent adolescent vaccinated with the Bacillus Calmette-Guerin vaccine and raises awareness of the occurrence of normal radiograph and early in the course of pulmonary tuberculosis, and normal head tomography even in the presence of tuberculous meningitis, highlighting the need for a high index of suspicion. It also shows that tuberculosis should be included in the differential diagnosis of fever of unknown origin with weight loss, even when no epidemiologic link has been established.

RESUMO: Polioencefalomalacia (PEM) é uma doença nervosa complexa que afeta ruminantes, tem distribuição mundial e causa perdas econômicas significativas. A PEM é abundantemente descrita e estudada em bovinos e pequenos ruminantes, porém há poucas informações sobre a doença em bubalinos, especialmente no Brasil. O objetivo deste trabalho é descrever os aspectos clínicos e patológicos de um surto de PEM em búfalos em um confinamento no estado do Pará, Brasil. O surto ocorreu em um lote de 76 búfalos da raça Murrah, com idade média de cinco meses, em um sistema de confinamento. Vinte e oito desses bubalinos adoeceram e treze apresentaram sinais neurológicos e morreram. Dois bubalinos foram submetidos à necropsia. O encéfalo e fragmentos de diversos órgãos da cavidade abdominal e torácica foram fixados em formol a 10% e enviados para exame histopatológico. Nos lobos frontal, parietal e occipital do telencéfalo as circunvoluções estavam achatadas e amareladas e ao corte havia uma clara linha de demarcação entre as camadas superficial e profunda. Na histologia as camadas intermediárias do córtex cerebral apresentavam vacuolização leve a moderada do neurópilo, aumento moderado dos espaços perivascular, perineuronal e periastrocitário, tumefação e edema moderados de astrócitos e grande número de neurônios necróticos. O trabalho demonstra que, apesar de pouco documentada no Brasil, a PEM deve ser considerada no diagnóstico diferencial das síndromes neurológicas em bubalinos. ABSTRACT: Polioencephalomalacia (PEM) is a nervous disease that affects ruminants, has a worldwide distribution and causes significant economic losses. PEM is abundantly described and studied in cattle and small ruminants, but there is little information about the disease in buffaloes, especially in Brazil. The objective of this work is to describe the clinical and pathological aspects of an outbreak of PEM in buffaloes in a feedlot in the state of Pará, Brazil. The outbreak occurred in a flock of 76 Murrah buffaloes, with an average age of five months, in a feedlot. Twenty-eight of these buffaloes became ill, and thirteen showed neurological signs and died. Two buffaloes underwent necropsy. The brain and fragments of various abdominal and thoracic cavity organs were fixed in 10% formalin and sent for histopathological examination. In the frontal, parietal, and occipital telencephalic lobes, the convolutions were flattened and yellowish, and when cut, there was a clear line of demarcation between the superficial and deep layers. Histologically, the intermediate layers of the cerebral cortex showed mild to moderate vacuolization of the neuropil, moderate enlargement of the perivascular, perineuronal, and periastrocyte spaces, moderate swelling and edema of astrocytes, and a large number of necrotic neurons. The work demonstrates that, despite being poorly documented in Brazil, PEM should be considered in the differential diagnosis of neurological syndromes in buffaloes. RESUMEN En este artículo, proponemos examinar la influencia de la comunicación mediática en la sociabilidad y la producción de significados, reflexionando sobre la dimensión afectiva en la construcción del conocimiento. Considerando la experiencia estética, delineamos tanto las transformaciones promovidas por las tecnologías mediáticas en la educación como las implicaciones sociales y culturales derivadas de la apropiación, por parte de los profesores, de los espacios mediados por plataformas. Partiendo de la premisa de que la comunicación desempeña un papel central en las relaciones humanas, exploramos los conceptos de mediatización y vida cotidiana en el lenguaje estético de las plataformas sociales, especialmente Instagram. Tras una confluencia teórica, realizamos un análisis cualitativo descriptivo de una entrevista en profundidad con los educadores influyentes digitales @carolmendonca y @professornoslen. Como resultado, señalamos reflexiones sobre el fenómeno de la influencia digital por parte de los profesores, partiendo de la esfera afectiva y la interacción como productoras de significados y conocimientos en Comunicación.

RESUMO Propomos neste artigo examinar a influência da comunicação midiática na sociabilidade e produção de sentidos, refletindo sobre a dimensão afetiva na construção do conhecimento. Pensando a experiência estética, delineamos tanto as transformações promovidas pelas tecnologias midiáticas na educação, quanto as implicações sociais e culturais decorrentes da apropriação, por professores, dos espaços mediados por plataformas. Partindo do pressuposto de que a comunicação desempenha um papel central nas relações humanas, exploramos os conceitos de midiatização e cotidiano na linguagem estética das plataformas sociais, em especial o Instagram. Após confluência teórica, realizamos uma análise qualitativa descritiva da entrevista em profundidade com os educadores influenciadores digitais @carolmendonca e @professornoslen. Como resultados, apontamos reflexões sobre o fenômeno de influência digital pelos professores partindo da esfera afetiva e da interação como produtoras de sentidos e conhecimentos em Comunicação.

ABSTRACT In this article, we propose to examine the influence of media communication on sociability and meaning production, reflecting on the affective dimension in knowledge construction. Considering the aesthetic experience, we outline both the transformations brought about by media technologies in education and the social and cultural implications resulting from teachers' appropriation of spaces mediated by platforms. Assuming that communication plays a central role in human relationships, we explore the concepts of mediatization and everyday life in the aesthetic language of social platforms, especially Instagram. Following a theoretical confluence, we conduct a qualitative descriptive analysis of an in-depth interview with digital influencer educators @carolmendonca and @professornoslen. As a result, we point out reflections on the phenomenon of digital influence by teachers, starting from the affective sphere and interaction as producers of meanings and knowledge in Communication.

Abstract Introduction and Aim: The timing of anterior fontanelle (AF) closure may be a useful marker for early disease detection. However, the few published studies on this topic have reported significant differences in the normal age ranges of AF closure between countries. The aim of this study was to report AF closure time in the Portuguese population during the last two decades. Methods: This was a 21-year retrospective observational study of healthy Portuguese children conducted from January 1999 to December 2019. Data on the age of AF closure were collected by a single pediatrician during outpatient child visits at specific ages (1, 2, 4, 6, 9, 12, 18, 24, 30, and 36 months) and during unscheduled visits due to appointment changes or illness. Clinically closed AF was defined as the absence of a depressible fontanelle on physical examination. AF closure time was calculated as the mean age between the age of the last palpable AF and the age of the first clinically closed AF. Results: A total of 684 children (gestational age ≥37 weeks, birth weight ≥2500 grams) were evaluated, of whom 364 (53.2%) were boys. The mean ± 1 standard deviation (SD) age of AF closure was 14.3 ± 4.9 months (range 2−33 months). The 2.5th and 97.5th percentiles, representing ± 2 SD of AF closure time, were 6 and 25 months, respectively. Other percentiles were P5 - 7 months, P25 - 11 months, P50 - 14 months, P75 - 16 months, and P95 - 22 months. Noteworthy, 0.6% and 3.1% of children had a closed AF at three and six months, respectively, while 2.9% still had an open AF at 24 months. AF closure occurred earlier in males than in females (13.6±4.7 vs. 15.1±5.0, p <0.001). A statistically significant difference was found in the mean ± 2 SD of the gender comparison (p=0.045). Conclusions: This study showed a normal distribution of AF closure age in Portuguese children. The acknowledgment of age-related variations in AF closure timing in different populations is important to raise clinicians’ awareness for timely suspicion and detection of pathologic cases and the need for clinical study.

Resumo Introdução e Objetivo: O tempo para o encerramento da fontanela anterior (FA) pode ser um indicador útil na deteção precoce de doença. Os escassos estudos publicados sobre o tema evidenciam a existência de diferenças significativas entre países na definição do intervalo de idades normal para o encerramento da FA. O objetivo deste estudo foi determinar o intervalo de idades de encerramento da FA na população portuguesa ao longo das últimas duas décadas. Métodos: Estudo observacional, retrospetivo, com a duração de 21 anos, efetuado em crianças portuguesas saudáveis entre Janeiro de 1999 e Dezembro de 2019. Foram recolhidos dados relativos à idade de encerramento da FA por um único pediatra em contexto de consulta de saúde infantil realizada em idades específicas (1, 2, 4, 6, 9, 12, 18, 24, 30 e 36 meses) e de consultas não programadas devido a reagendamentos ou situação de doença aguda. Foi definida FA clinicamente encerrada como ausência de fontanela anterior depressível no exame objetivo. A idade de encerramento da FA foi calculada como a idade média entre a idade da criança na última palpação da FA aberta e a idade na consulta em que se objetivou o seu encerramento. Resultados: Um total de 684 crianças (idade gestacional ≥37 semanas, peso ao nascimento ≥2500 gramas) foram avaliadas, 364 (53%) das quais do sexo masculino. A idade média de encerramento da FA ± 1 desvio-padrão (DP) foi de 14.3 ± 4.9 meses (variação 2−33 meses). Os percentis 2.5 e 97.5, correspondentes a ± 2 DP do tempo de encerramento da FA, foram 6 e 25 meses de idade, respetivamente. A distribuição das idades de encerramento foi ainda caracterizada pelos seguintes percentis: P5 - 7 meses, P25 - 11 meses, P50 - 14 meses, P75 - 16 meses e P95 - 22 meses. Aos três e seis meses de vida, 0.6% e 3.1% das crianças, respetivamente já tinham a FA encerrada, enquanto aos 24 meses de idade, 2.9% mantinham-na aberta. O encerramento da FA foi significativamente mais precoce no sexo masculino do que no sexo feminino (13.6±4.7 vs. 15.1±5.0, p <0.001) e a média ± 2 DP da comparação entre os sexos também foi estatisticamente diferente (p=0.045). Conclusões: Os resultados deste estudo sugerem uma distribuição normal na idade de encerramento da FA num grupo de crianças portuguesas. Ter conhecimento de variações relacionadas com a idade de encerramento da FA em diferentes populações é importante para sensibilizar os clínicos para a deteção precoce de estados patológicos e para determinar a necessidade de prosseguir o estudo clínico.

ABSTRACT The present study aimed to investigate the communication/training strategies and technological tools used by fitness coaches from Brazilian football teams during home-based training according to age categories (professional and youth), competitive level (1st, 2nd and 3rd/4th divisions) and sex (male and female). An online questionnaire was applied to collect data. Eighty-two fitness coaches from sixty-seven male and female football teams (professional and youth teams) answered the questionnaire. Message apps were the main communication route between fitness coaches and players during home-based training. Online spreadsheets were frequently used to control the training. Regarding equipment provided to players for training, 70.7% of male professional players used some equipment. In contrast, most female professional and youth players (both sexes) did not receive any equipment, respectively (p< 0.01). Male players who compete in the 1st and 2nd divisions received more equipment for training than those who compete in the 3rd and 4th divisions (p< 0.01). The main physical fitness variables trained by all players during home-based training were muscle strength, strength-endurance, and aerobic capacity. Training load and training response were applied through series/repetitions/time and effort perception scales, respectively. In conclusion, the financial differences between professional and youth teams and between males and females and competitive levels can induce different home-based training conditions in Brazilian football teams during lockdown-like situations, especially related to equipment available for training targeted physical qualities. Thus, players should be monitored closely during lockdown-like situations and provided appropriate support to facilitate their training.

Resumo Introdução: A doença renal crônica costuma ser assintomática e seu diagnóstico depende da realização de exames laboratoriais, com destaque para a creatinina sérica e pesquisa de proteinúria. Objetivo: Avaliar em uma amostra da população brasileira o conhecimento sobre o papel da creatinina sérica como marcador de função renal. Método: Estudo observacional transversal realizado na cidade de São Paulo (SP, Brasil), em que foi entrevistada uma população adulta aleatória. Resultados: Foram entrevistados 1138 indivíduos, com idade mediana de 36 anos (27–52); 55,1% do sexo feminino. Com relação ao marcador “creatinina”, 40,6% afirmaram que nunca realizaram tal dosagem. Quando questionados quanto ao conhecimento sobre a utilidade desse exame, somente 19,6% sabiam a sua função. As outras respostas foram “não sei” (71,6%), avaliar o funcionamento do coração (0,9%) e fígado (7,8%). Dos que afirmaram já terem realizado o exame de creatinina, somente 29,4% acertaram a função da creatinina. Ao dividir os grupos em “sabe” e “não sabe” a função da creatinina, percebeu-se diferença estatisticamente significante (p < 0,05) em relação ao grau de escolaridade, sexo feminino, ser aluno/trabalhador da saúde, ter dosado creatinina alguma vez, conhecer alguém com doença renal e maior idade. Na análise multivariada, a principal variável relacionada com conhecer a função da creatinina foi ter realizado o exame anteriormente (OR 5,16; IC 95% 3,16–8,43, p < 0,001). Conclusão: Há grande desconhecimento sobre a creatinina e seu uso em check-ups. Os resultados indicam que é necessário maior esforço por parte dos profissionais de saúde para divulgar o papel da creatinina sérica. Abstract Introduction: Chronic kidney disease is usually asymptomatic, and its diagnosis depends on laboratory tests, with emphasis on serum creatinine and proteinuria. Objective: To assess knowledge on the role of serum creatinine as a biomarker of kidney function in a sample of the Brazilian population. Method: Cross-sectional observational study conducted in São Paulo (SP, Brazil), in which a random adult population was interviewed. Results: A total of 1138 subjects were interviewed, with a median age of 36 years old (27–52); 55.1% were female. Regarding the “creatinine” biomarker, 40.6% stated they had never performed such a test. When asked about their knowledge on the usefulness of this exam, only 19.6% knew its function. The other responses were “I don’t know” (71.6%), evaluating heart function (0.9%) and liver function (7.8%). Of those who reported they had already taken a creatinine test, only 29.4% correctly identified the role of creatinine. When dividing the groups into “knows” and “does not know” the function of creatinine, a statistically significant difference (p < 0.05) was observed regarding level of education, female sex, being a healthcare student/worker, having ever measured creatinine, knowing someone with kidney disease and older age. In the multivariate analysis, the main variable related to knowing the creatinine role was having previously taken the test (OR 5.16; 95% CI 3.16–8.43, p < 0.001). Conclusion: There is a significant lack of knowledge about creatinine and its use in checkups. The results indicate that greater efforts are needed from healthcare professionals to raise awareness on the role of serum creatinine.
