RESUMO: O lúpulo (Humulus lupulus L.) possui grande importância econômica no planalto serrano do estado de Santa Catarina, uma vez que existem inúmeras cervejarias nesta região do Brasil. Como as cultivares disponíveis no país carecem de bons atributos qualitativos e apresentam baixa produtividade de cones, existe grande demanda por genótipos melhorados. Os resultados de experimentos de cruzamento dialélico aumentam a compreensão dos processos de herança e dos mecanismos de controle associados à transferência de alelos com ação aditiva ou não aditiva, permitindo assim que os geneticistas explorem os benefícios da heterose. Os objetivos deste estudo foram avaliar as capacidades de combinação geral e específica (CGC e CEC, respectivamente) de quatro genótipos de lúpulo e obter híbridos F1 com características agronômicas superiores às dos genitores e habilidade para se adaptar às condições ambientais do planalto catarinense. Os cruzamentos dialélicos parciais foram realizados em delineamento de blocos casualizados envolvendo 14 tratamentos, i.e. dois genitores masculinos (Cascade e Hallertauer), quatro genitores femininos (Columbus, Chinook, Cascade e Hallertauer) e oito combinações híbridas, com três repetições cada. Os resultados mostraram que a CEC dos genitores foi o mecanismo de controle predominante para a manifestação nos híbridos das características comprimento do ramo lateral, altura de inserção do primeiro cone, massa verde da planta e produtividade de cones. Algumas combinações entre genitores também manifestaram CGC elevada, indicando a presença de alelos favoráveis com ação aditiva. A melhor combinação foi Hallertauer × Cascade e essa descoberta demonstra a importância da escolha de genitores originários de diferentes grupos genéticos (Americano × Europeu) para obter híbridos geneticamente melhorados. ABSTRACT: Hops (Humulus lupulus L.) are of particular economic importance in the highlands of the state of Santa Catarina, Brazil, by virtue of the number of breweries in the region. However, since the cultivars currently available in the country present poor qualitative attributes and low cone productivity, there is considerable demand for improved genotypes. The results of diallel crossing experiments help to increase our understanding of inheritance processes and the mechanisms controlling the transfer of alleles with additive or non-additive action, thereby allowing breeders to explore the benefits of heterosis. The present study evaluated the general and specific combining abilities (GCA and SCA, respectively) of four hop genotypes and to obtain F1 hybrids with agronomic traits superior to those of the parents and the ability to adapt to the environmental conditions in the Santa Catarina highlands. Partial diallel crosses were performed using a randomized complete block design involving 14 treatments, namely two male parents (Cascade and Hallertauer), four female parents (Columbus, Chinook, Cascade and Hallertauer) and eight hybrid combinations, with three repetitions each. The results showed that SCA was the predominant controlling mechanism for the manifestation in hybrids of the traits length of the lateral branch, height of insertion of the first cone, plant green mass and cone productivity. RESUMO Objetivo: Relatar dois casos de pneumotórax bilateral espontâneo múltiplo sucessivo em crianças com envolvimento pulmonar maciço por histiocitose de células de Langerhans (HCL), alertando para a possibilidade desse diagnóstico diferencial para o pediatra geral. Ademais, casos publicados que descrevem pacientes pediátricos com manifestações pulmonares de HCL foram revisados na literatura. Descrição do caso: Caso 1: Paciente masculino, três anos, com episódio súbito pneumotórax espontâneo à direita, drenado cirurgicamente. Após dois meses, apresentou dois novos episódios de pneumotórax contralateral. Biópsia linfonodal pulmonar revelou diagnóstico de HCL. Foi submetido a cirurgia torácica assistida por vídeo (VATS) bilateral e minitoracotomia com pleurodese mecânica, além de tratamento quimioterápico, necessitando de internação prolongada. Caso 2: Menino, quatro anos, apresentando dispneia progressiva e sibilância por cinco meses. Biópsia pulmonar revelou HCL. Evoluiu com importante desconforto respiratório e pneumotórax direito, necessitando drenagem. Foi realizada pleurodese com nitrato de prata e diferentes esquemas de quimioterapia. Ambos os pacientes evoluíram bem após tratamentos quimioterápicos múltiplos, cirurgias e suporte intensivo. Comentários: A HCL é uma doença desafiadora. Sua manifestação clínica é variável, e o envolvimento pulmonar ocorre em cerca de 10–15% dos casos. Consideram-se o manejo cirúrgico especializado e o suporte multidisciplinar essenciais para o tratamento de pacientes com HCL pulmonar maciça. ABSTRACT Objective: The objective of this study was to report two cases of successive multiple spontaneous bilateral pneumothorax in children with massive lung involvement due to Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH), emphasizing the possibility of this differential diagnosis for the general pediatrician. Additionally, published cases describing pediatric patients with pulmonary manifestations of LCH were reviewed in the literature. Case description: Case #1: A 3-year-old male patient with a sudden episode of spontaneous right-sided pneumothorax, surgically drained. After 2 months, he experienced two new episodes of contralateral pneumothorax. A pulmonary lymph node biopsy revealed the diagnosis of LCH. He underwent bilateral video-assisted thoracic surgery and mini-thoracotomy with mechanical pleurodesis, in addition to chemotherapy, requiring prolonged hospitalization. Case #2: A 4-year-old boy with progressive dyspnea and wheezing for 5 months. A pulmonary biopsy revealed LCH. He developed significant respiratory distress and right pneumothorax, requiring drainage. Silver nitrate pleurodesis and different chemotherapy regimens were performed. Both patients responded well to multiple chemotherapy treatments, surgeries, and intensive care support. Comments: LCH is a challenging disease. Its clinical manifestation is variable, and pulmonary involvement occurs in about 10–15% of cases. ABSTRACT BACKGROUND: Specific types of violence such as intimate partner sexual violence and intimate partner homicide occur more frequently in rural areas. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to systematically review the literature on the knowledge and attitudes of rural healthcare providers regarding cases of domestic violence against women. DESIGN AND SETTING: Systematic review developed at Universidade Federal de Uberlândia. METHODS: We conducted an electronic search of six databases, which only included observational studies, regardless of the year, language, or country of publication, except for studies that used secondary data and were exclusively qualitative. Two reviewers performed the selection, data extraction, and risk of bias assessment using a specific Joanna Briggs Institute tool. RESULTS: Six studies met the inclusion criteria. All the studies had a low risk of bias. Approximately 38% of these professionals identified injuries caused by violence in patients. When asked about knowing the correct attitude to take in cases of confirmed violence, between 12% and 64% of rural healthcare providers answered positively; most of them would refer to specialized institutions and promote victim empowerment and counseling. The number of professionals with an educational background in the field ranged from 16% to 98%. CONCLUSIONS: The evident disparity across studies shows that some professionals have suboptimal knowledge and require training to adopt the correct attitude when identifying female victims of domestic violence in clinical practice. Abstract This article presents the incorporation of information and communication technologies on the teaching-learning process of geotechnical engineering to improve the quality of education and provide practical knowledge to civil engineering students. The content of this paper is divided into three main modules, which are: Treatment of laboratory tests results, Slope stability and Rock mass stability. For this, some software were used, including 2D limit equilibrium stability analysis, stability analysis of rock wedges and a dynamic mathematics, to obtain and analyze soil shear strength parameters, among others. Furthermore, a digital tool was developed to analyze the results gathered in compaction, one-dimensional consolidation, and direct soil shear tests, in order to clarify the relationship between theoretical concepts and practical results of the tests and analyses and to help students on doubts, in addition to increase their interest and motivation to perform the complete interpretation of the collected data. The activities were conducted in classes of geotechnical disciplines of the undergraduate course in Civil Engineering at the Federal University of Viçosa, aiming to promote active learning and improve teaching quality. RESUMO Diversas pesquisas têm avaliado a aplicabilidade da técnica de auto liberação miofascial (ALM) na melhora aguda da flexibilidade em inúmeros esportes e/ou populações diferentes. No entanto, torna-se difícil sua inserção nas aulas de educação física escolar pelo elevado custo dos materiais. Dessa forma, buscou-se investigar o efeito da ALM em escolares por meio da utilização de rolos de espumas originais e com rolos confeccionados com materiais adaptados de baixo custo. Participaram da pesquisa 30 escolares, que foram aleatoriamente agrupados em: Grupo Controle (GCT), Grupo Rolo Original (GRO) e Grupo Rolo Adaptado (GRA). A flexibilidade foi avaliada antes e após a aplicação da ALM. A ALM foi realizada em músculos alvos uma vez por 30 segundos com intervalos de 15 segundos entre os estímulos. As comparações na flexibilidade pré e pós ALM foram avaliadas utilizando o teste de t student, com nível de significância adotado de p<0,05. Verificou-se que a ALM no GRO e GRA aumentaram agudamente a flexibilidade dos escolares em 7,53 e 16,5%, respectivamente. Assim, a utilização de rolos confeccionados com material alternativo (adaptado) para aplicação da ALM se mostra uma forma mais acessível financeiramente para ser utilizada nas aulas de educação física e abre possibilidades para sua aplicação para além das escolas. ABSTRACT Several studies have assessed the applicability of the Myofascial Self-Release Technique (MSRT) in the acute improvement of flexibility in various sports and/or different populations. However, its integration into school physical education classes becomes challenging due to the high cost of materials. Therefore, the aim was to investigate the effect of MSRT on schoolchildren using both original foam rollers and rollers made from low-cost adapted materials. Thirty schoolchildren participated in the study and were randomly grouped into: Control Group (CG), Original Roller Group (ORG), and Adapted Roller Group (ARG). Flexibility was evaluated before and after the application of MSRT. MSRT was performed on target muscles once for 30 seconds with intervals of 15 seconds between stimuli. Comparisons in pre- and post-MSRT flexibility were assessed using the Student's t-test, with a significance level adopted of p <0.05. It was found that MSRT in ORG and ARG significantly increased schoolchildren's flexibility by 7.53% and 16.5%, respectively. Therefore, the use of rollers made with alternative (adapted) material for applying MSRT appears to be a more financially accessible way to be used in physical education classes and opens possibilities for its application beyond schools. Resumo Muitas pesquisas têm se debruçado sobre as possíveis correlações entre desenvolvimento do setor financeiro e crescimento econômico. Entretanto, observa-se que essas pesquisas recorrentemente ignoram os aspectos ambientais da questão, de modo que o objetivo aqui é preencher essa lacuna. Para tanto, o estudo especifica modelos ARDL para o período 1978-2020, objetivando averiguar a relação entre o desenvolvimento do setor financeiro e a degradação ambiental no Brasil. Construiu-se um índice de desenvolvimento financeiro para, em seguida, incorporá-lo como variável explicativa aos modelos. Como resultados encontra-se que o desenvolvimento do setor financeiro nacional piora a qualidade ambiental no Brasil, aumentando as emissões de dióxido de carbono e reduzindo o estoque de capital natural do país. Abstract Several researches have focused on possible correlations between the development of the financial sector and economic growth. However, it is observed that these studies repeatedly ignore the environmental aspects of the issue, so the objective here is to fill this gap. To this end, this paper specifies ARDL models for the period 1978-2020, aiming to investigate the relationship between the development of the financial sector and environmental degradation in Brazil. A financial development index was constructed and then incorporated as an explanatory variable into the models. Resumo Fundamento: As ferramentas de telecardiologia são estratégias valiosas para melhorar a estratificação de risco. Objetivo: Objetivamos avaliar a acurácia da tele-eletrocardiografia (ECG) para predizer anormalidades no ecocardiograma de rastreamento na atenção primária. Métodos: Em 17 meses, 6 profissionais de saúde em 16 unidades de atenção primária foram treinados em protocolos simplificados de ecocardiografia portátil. Tele-ECGs foram registrados para diagnóstico final por um cardiologista. Pacientes consentidos com anormalidades maiores no ECG pelo código de Minnesota e uma amostra 1:5 de indivíduos normais foram submetidos a um questionário clínico e ecocardiograma de rastreamento interpretado remotamente. A doença cardíaca grave foi definida como doença valvular moderada/grave, disfunção/hipertrofia ventricular, derrame pericárdico ou anormalidade da motilidade. A associação entre alterações maiores do ECG e anormalidades ecocardiográficas foi avaliada por regressão logística da seguinte forma: 1) modelo não ajustado; 2) modelo 1 ajustado por idade/sexo; 3) modelo 2 mais fatores de risco (hipertensão/diabetes); 4) modelo 3 mais história de doença cardiovascular (Chagas/cardiopatia reumática/cardiopatia isquêmica/AVC/insuficiência cardíaca). Foram considerados significativos valores de p < 0,05. Resultados: No total, 1.411 pacientes realizaram ecocardiograma, sendo 1.149 (81%) com anormalidades maiores no ECG. A idade mediana foi de 67 anos (intervalo interquartil de 60 a 74) e 51,4% eram do sexo masculino. As anormalidades maiores no ECG se associaram a uma chance 2,4 vezes maior de doença cardíaca grave no ecocardiograma de rastreamento na análise bivariada (OR = 2,42 [IC 95% 1,76 a 3,39]) e permaneceram significativas (p < 0,001) após ajustes no modelo 2 (OR = 2,57 [IC 95% 1,84 a 3,65]), modelo 3 (OR = 2,52 [IC 95% 1,80 a 3,58]) e modelo 4 (OR = 2,23 [IC 95% 1,59 a 3,19]). Idade, sexo masculino, insuficiência cardíaca e doença cardíaca isquêmica também foram preditores independentes de doença cardíaca grave no ecocardiograma. Conclusões: As anormalidades do tele-ECG aumentaram a probabilidade de doença cardíaca grave no ecocardiograma de rastreamento, mesmo após ajustes para variáveis demográficas e clínicas. Abstract Background: Tele-cardiology tools are valuable strategies to improve risk stratification. Objective: We aimed to evaluate the accuracy of tele-electrocardiography (ECG) to predict abnormalities in screening echocardiography (echo) in primary care (PC). Methods: In 17 months, 6 health providers at 16 PC units were trained on simplified handheld echo protocols. Tele-ECGs were recorded for final diagnosis by a cardiologist. Consented patients with major ECG abnormalities by the Minnesota code, and a 1:5 sample of normal individuals underwent clinical questionnaire and screening echo interpreted remotely. Major heart disease was defined as moderate/severe valve disease, ventricular dysfunction/hypertrophy, pericardial effusion, or wall-motion abnormalities. Association between major ECG and echo abnormalities was assessed by logistic regression as follows: 1) unadjusted model; 2) model 1 adjusted for age/sex; 3) model 2 plus risk factors (hypertension/diabetes); 4) model 3 plus history of cardiovascular disease (Chagas/rheumatic heart disease/ischemic heart disease/stroke/heart failure). P-values < 0.05 were considered significant. Results: A total 1,411 patients underwent echo; 1,149 (81%) had major ECG abnormalities. Median age was 67 (IQR 60 to 74) years, and 51.4% were male. Major ECG abnormalities were associated with a 2.4-fold chance of major heart disease on echo in bivariate analysis (OR = 2.42 [95% CI 1.76 to 3.39]), and remained significant after adjustments in models (p < 0.001) 2 (OR = 2.57 [95% CI 1.84 to 3.65]), model 3 (OR = 2.52 [95% CI 1.80 to3.58]), and model 4 (OR = 2.23 [95%CI 1.59 to 3.19]). Chagas disease is a public health problem, particularly in Latin America. The available treatment consists of two poorly effective drugs in the chronic phase of this parasitic disease. Considering the lack of effective treatment, alternatives are sought, such as the search focused on the biological targets of the etiologic agent. Based on this strategy, the role of Trypanosoma cruzi sterol 14α-demethylase (TcCYP51) in ergosterol seems promising. In this work, we apply the virtual screening approach to a proposal to repurpose U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved drugs. We combined computational techniques and used rigorous validation to identify putative inhibitors from the FDA-approved drug library. Resumo Objetivos: descrever a prevalência da má nutrição (baixo peso, baixa estatura e excesso de peso) em crianças de seis a 59 meses e sua distribuição espacial na cidade de Beira, Moçambique. Métodos: estudo transversal exploratório, realizado entre outubro e novembro de 2019, incluindo 407 crianças de seis a 59 meses. O cálculo da amostra foi baseado na prevalência do déficit estatura/idade. Os dados antropométricos foram analisados no Anthro e a prevalência de má nutrição apresentada por meio de mapas temáticos no Quantum Geographic Information System (QGIS). Resultados: os principais resultados mostram uma prevalência de 27,0% de baixa estatura/idade, 7,9% de baixo peso/estatura e 4,7% de excesso de peso. Conclusões: a distribuição espacial evidenciou que as áreas urbanas e periurbanas da cidade apresentavam prevalências similares das três formas de má nutrição. A prevalência da má nutrição em Beira é alta, embora o déficit estatura/idade seja a sua maior expressão, estando o excesso de peso difusamente distribuído. Abstract Objectives: to describe the prevalence of malnutrition (underweight, low height, and overweight) in children aged six to 59 months and its spatial distribution in the city of Beira, Mozambique. Methods: an exploratory cross-sectional study was conducted between October and November 2019, involving 407 children aged six to 59 months. The sample size calculation was based on the prevalence of height-for-age deficit. Anthropometric data were analyzed using Anthro version and the prevalence of malnutrition was presented through thematic maps generated in Quantum Geographic Information System (QGIS). Results: the main findings revealed a prevalence of 27.0% for low height/age, 7.9% for underweight/height, and 4.7% for overweight. Conclusions: the spatial distribution highlighted that both urban and peri-urban areas of the city showed similar prevalence rates for the three forms of malnutrition. Niobium pentoxide shows an interesting reactivity that allows the control of different aspects of its morphology and chemistry. In this study, Nb2O5 nanoparticles were modified with protoporphyrin IX (PPIX) and tris(ethynylphenyl) pyrene derivative (PyPh3) by using 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane as linkage group and used as photosensitizers against lung cancer. RESUMO Objetivo: Este estudo descreveu a metodologia utilizada no desenvolvimento do MonitoraSB, uma inovação no campo da avaliação e do monitoramento dos serviços de saúde bucal na Atenção Primária à Saúde (APS) no Brasil e discutiu suas características e possíveis utilizações. Métodos: O MonitoraSB inclui uma matriz de indicadores e ferramentas digitais desenvolvidas em colaboração com cirurgiões-dentistas das equipes de saúde bucal e gestores de saúde bucal. Os indicadores avaliam o provimento e a gestão dos serviços de saúde bucal e foram desenvolvidos com base no modelo de avaliação da efetividade da atenção em saúde bucal. O painel e a calculadora foram desenvolvidos para facilitar o uso operacional dos indicadores. Resultados: Os 54 indicadores da matriz, com validade de conteúdo e mensurabilidade demonstradas, abrangem diversos aspectos do cuidado em saúde bucal na APS, desde a organização e a capacidade dos serviços até o perfil de atendimento e resolutividade. O painel oferece navegação e interatividade, permitindo análises nos níveis regional, estadual e municipal, bem como comparações geográficas e temporais. A calculadora permite a obtenção dos indicadores no nível local. Conclusão: A implementação do MonitoraSB poderá fortalecer a APS, sustentando a tomada de decisões informadas, e consolidar o modelo de cuidado em saúde bucal universal, integral e equânime. ABSTRACT Objective: This study describes the methodology used in the development of MonitoraSB, an innovation in the field of evaluating and monitoring oral health services in primary health care (PHC) in Brazil, and it discusses its characteristics and possible uses. Methods: MonitoraSB includes a matrix of indicators and digital tools, developed in collaboration with oral health team dentists and oral health managers. The indicators evaluate the provision and management of oral health services and were developed on the basis of the model for evaluating the effectiveness of oral health care. The dashboard and calculator were developed to facilitate the operational use of the indicators. Results: The 54 indicators in the matrix, with demonstrated content validity and measurability, cover various aspects of oral health care in PHC, from the organization and capacity of services to the profile of care and resolution. Abstract Background Acknowledging the relationship between postural control and muscle strength in lower limbs is important to find persons with high fall risk and to design fall prevention exercise programs. Objective To investigate the connection between knee muscle strength, semi-static postural balance, and functional mobility in irregularly active older women. Methods One hundred and ten older women aged 60 to 85 years underwent a semi-static postural balance test in a force and functional mobility measured by Timed Up & Go (TUG) with and without Cognitive Tasks (CT). Muscle strength of the knee was assessed by isokinetic dynamometry at 60°/s. Results A negative correlation between the functional mobility (TUG with and without CT) and the muscular strength of the knee was observed. Regarding semi-static balance, there was a low negative correlation with peak torque corrected for body weight of the extensors with the following variables with eyes open: Mean Velocity Dominant limb (D) (r = -0.19; p = 0.03); and anteroposterior range Non-Dominant limb (ND) (r = -0.19; p = 0.04); with eyes closed: mediolateral range ND limb (r = -0.21; p = 0.02) and Mean Velocity ND limb (r = -0.18; p = 0.05). Conclusions This study found that better functional mobility was associated with greater muscle strength in the knee in elderly women. There were weak negative correlations between knee extensor strength and some measures of semi-static postural balance, suggesting that different motor control actions are required to maintain semi-static balance and mobility. ABSTRACT Spinal muscular atrophy is a rare hereditary neurodegenerative disease characterized by progressive motor neuron loss. The most common form of SMA is linked to 5q (5q-SMA) and is classified into subtypes according to the age of onset and maximum motor function achieved. The severity ranges from progressive infantile paralysis and premature death (type 1) to limited motor neuron loss in adults (type 4). The LATAM RegistrAME protocol is an observational, retrospective, prospective international multicenter clinical registry study involving Latin Americans. We will include 5q-SMA patients across all age groups, from pediatric to adult, to describe their clinical characteristics and disease progression. The protocol will use an international clinical research form based on the Treat Neuromuscular Disease Global Academic Network (TREAT-NMD), which focuses on advancing research on neuromuscular disorders in patients with spinal muscular atrophy. The study will include six countries in Latin America, sampling a total of 415 patients with SMA and 5q-SMA types 1, 2, 3, and 4 of all ages and both sexes who have genetically confirmed 5q-SMA. The mean follow-up period was 24 months. The primary outcomes will be the description of general clinical characteristics, access to medications capable of modifying the course of the disease, functional assessments, motor milestones, and ventilatory support. This study will provide insights into 5q spinal muscular atrophy patients in Latin America to better understand their clinical characteristics, use of medications, and outcomes while supporting further clinical management protocols and clinical trials.
