ABSTRACT OBJECTIVE: to verify the association between adherence to medication and non-medication treatment and the care practices provided to people with type 2 diabetes Mellitus (DM2) by the Family Health Strategy (ESF) teams. METHOD: cross-sectional study, of the household survey type, carried out with people with DM2 registered in the 65 urban teams of the ESF, randomly selected and stratified by team. Data were collected in the first semester of 2014 through a structured interview and in the analysis, using logistic regression, considering a significant association when p≤0.05. RESULTS: the 408 people participating had an average age of 66.5 years, 84.1% reported adhering to drug treatment, 29.4% performed regular physical activity and 24% had adequate nutrition. After adjustments, the variables that remained associated with drug treatment were non-participation in health education activities (p=0.012) and being attended by the same nurse (p=0.048). Regarding medication, the adoption of adequate nutrition was associated with quarterly capillary glycemia check (p=0.011) and being asked, during treatment, about the practice of physical activity (p=0.012) and the practice of regular physical activity with participation in health education activities (p=0.031), being satisfied with the assistance (p=0.04), being attended to on the same day that you sought the BHU (p=0.017) and the professionals asking about your health (p=0.011). CONCLUSION: people with DM2 showed good adherence to medication treatment and low adherence to non-medication, indicating that ESF teams need to expand the implementation of health promotion actions, prevention and control of the disease and its complications.

RESUMEN OBJETIVO: verificar la asociación entre la adhesión al tratamiento con medicación y sin medicación y las prácticas de atención de los equipos de la Estrategia de salud familiar (ESF) a las personas con diabetes Mellitus tipo 2 (DM2). MÉTODO: estudio transversal, tipo encuesta domiciliaria, realizado con personas con DM2 inscritas en los 65 equipos urbanos de la ESF, seleccionados al azar y estratificados por equipo. Los datos se recogieron el primer semestre de 2014 a través de una entrevista estructurada y durante el análisis, utilizando regresión logística, considerando la asociación significativa cuando p≤0.05. RESULTADOS: las 408 personas que participaron tenían edad promedio de 66,5 años; el 84,1% indicó adhesión al tratamiento farmacológico; el 29,4% realizó actividad física regular y el 24% tenía nutrición adecuada. Después de los ajustes, las variables que permanecieron asociadas con el tratamiento farmacológico fueron: la no participación en actividades de educación para la salud (p = 0,012) y atención del mismo enfermero (p = 0,048). Con respecto a la medicación, la adopción de la alimentación adecuada se asoció con el control trimestral de la glucemia capilar (p = 0,011) y que le preguntasen, mientras lo atendían, sobre la práctica de actividad física (p = 0,012) y la práctica de actividad física regular con participación en actividades de educación para la salud (p = 0,031), estar satisfecho con la atención brindada (p = 0,04), ser atendido el mismo día que fue a la UBS (p = 0,017) y que los profesionales preguntasen sobre su salud (p = 0,011). CONCLUSIÓN: las personas con DM2 mostraron buena adhesión al tratamiento con medicación y baja adhesión al tratamiento sin medicación, lo que indica que los equipos de ESF deben ampliar la implementación de acciones para promover la salud, prevenir y controlar la enfermedad y sus complicaciones.

MÉTODO: estudo transversal, do tipo inquérito domiciliar, realizado com pessoas com DM2 cadastradas nas 65 equipes urbanas da ESF, selecionadas aleatoriamente e de forma estratificada por equipe. Os dados foram coletados no primeiro semestre 2014 mediante entrevista estruturada e na análise, usando-se regressão logística, considerando-se associação significativa quando p≤0,05. RESULTADOS: as 408 pessoas participantes tinham idade média de 66,5 anos, 84,1% relataram aderir ao tratamento medicamentoso, 29,4% realizavam atividade física regularmente e 24% tinham alimentação adequada. Após ajustes, as variáveis que permaneceram associadas ao tratamento medicamentoso foram: não participação em atividade de educação em saúde (p=0,012) e ser atendido pelo mesmo enfermeiro (p=0,048). Em relação ao medicamentoso, a adoção de alimentação adequada apresentou associação com verificação trimestral da glicemia capilar (p=0,011) e ser questionado, durante o atendimento, sobre a prática de atividade física (p=0,012) e a prática de atividade física regular com participação em atividades de educação em saúde (p=0,031), estar satisfeito com a assistência (p=0,04), ser atendido no mesmo dia em que procurou a UBS (p=0,017) e os profissionais perguntarem sobre sua saúde (p=0,011). CONCLUSÃO: as pessoas com DM2 apresentaram boa adesão ao tratamento medicamentoso e baixa adesão ao não medicamentoso, indicando que as equipes da ESF precisam ampliar a implementação de ações de promoção da saúde, prevenção e controle da doença e suas complicações.

Abstract Introduction For the singer, the voice is a medium used to express feelings that capture the listener. Every singing style has specific demands, and a vocal alteration may prevent the singer from meeting them. Objective To compare the singing style, the vocal habits, and the general health data of professional singers. Methods Cross-sectional, quantitative and retrospective study of a survey database. Data on the singing style, the vocal habits, and the health conditions and history of 57 professional singers, 31 female singers and 26 male singers, aged from 19 to 57 years old (average of 32 years old), from a mid-sized town were analyzed Results Therewas a prevalence of female (54 ± 2%) popular singers (91 ± 2%), in the adult age (51 ± 2%), nonsmokers (89 ± 2%), nonusers of alcohol (77 ± 2%), with respiratory problems (53 ± 2%), mainly rhinitis (23 ± 2%), and without other health problems. There was a significant use of alcohol in males (p = 0.010); among the alcohol users, there was a significant presence of respiratory problems (p = 0.046), of pharyngitis/tonsillitis (p = 0.003), and of gastroesophageal reflux (GER) (p = 0.043); there was a significant presence of GER in subjects reporting endocrine problems (p = 0.023), of gastritis (p = 0.023), and of pharyngitis/tonsillitis (p = 0.030). Conclusion There was a predominance of adult professional popular female singers, with complaints of respiratory issues (with a higher prevalence of rhinitis), without other general health issues, of nonsmokers, and of nonusers of alcohol.

O tema deste estudo é a Síndrome de tensão musculoesquelética, musculatura laríngea extrínseca e postura corporal. Tem como objetivo descrever, a partir de revisão de literatura,as características da musculatura extrínseca da laringe; postura corporal; Síndrome de tensão musculoesquelética e suas implicações vocais; avaliação e tratamento fisioterapêutico e fonoaudiológico. Foi realizado levantamento bibliográfico dos últimos 13 anos em que foram incluídos artigos cujo objetivo e/ou corpo do texto estivessem em consonância com os objetivos do estudo. A pesquisa foi realizada nos bancos de dados das bases Literatura Latino-Americana e do Caribe em Ciências da Saúde, Biblioteca Regional de Medicina, PublicMedline, Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System on Line, Scientific Electronic Library Online e Google Schoolar. Estabeleceram-se relações importantes do âmbito fisioterapêutico e fonoaudiológico, dentre as quais se destacam as relações musculares, posturais e funcionais na sinergia do aparato vocal. Na fisioterapia para redução da tensão muscular, a literatura aponta uso de eletroterapia transcutânea, laser de baixa intensidade, laser acupuntura, crioterapia, bem como terapia manual com tração, massagens, manipulações e mobilizações cervicais, associadas ou não a exercícios, alongamentos, relaxamento isométrico, mobilização assistida dos tecidos moles, exercícios terapêuticos visando à correção e equilíbrio muscular, reeducação respiratória diafragmática e terapia com flexão craniocervical. Na fonoaudiologia, foram encontrados apenas estudos com a manipulação digital da laringe e exercícios de trato vocal semiocluído.

The theme of this study is the musculoskeletal stress syndrome, extrinsic laryngeal muscles and body posture. The purpose is to describe, from the literature review, the characteristics of the extrinsic muscles of the larynx; posture; vocal implications of musculoskeletal stress syndrome; evaluation and physical therapy and voice therapy. We performed a literature review of the last 13 years which included articles aimed and/or body textwere in line with the objectives of this study. The research was conducted in the databases of Literatura Latino-Americana e do Caribe em Ciências da Saúde, Biblioteca Regional de Medicina, Public Medline, Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System on Line, Scientific Electronic Library Online and Google Schoolar. Were established important relationships within the physical therapy and voice therapy, among which stand out the relationships muscular, postural and functional synergy in the vocal apparatus. In physical therapy to reduce muscle tension, the literature indicates use of transcutaneous electrical stimulation, low level laser, laser acupuncture, cryotherapy, manual therapy and traction, massage, cervical manipulations and mobilizations, associated or not to exercise, stretching, isometric relaxation , assisted soft tissue mobilization, therapeutic exercises aimed at correcting balance and muscle, diaphragm and respiratory rehabilitation therapy craniocervical flexion. In speech therapy, studies found only through digital manipulation of the larynx and semi-ocluded vocal tract exercises.

O objetivo do estudo foi examinar a concordância entre diferentes indicadores de imagem corporal e de cada um desses com o estado nutricional e a associação dos mesmos com o índice de massa corporal (IMC) entre adolescentes. Foi estudada uma amostra aleatória de 152 estudantes de escolas públicas e privadas do município do Rio de Janeiro. Em quatro ocasiões, foram aplicadas duas escalas de silhuetas e duas questões referentes à opinião do estudante sobre seu corpo e seu peso e realizada aferição de peso e estatura. O IMC foi examinado como variável categórica e contínua. Para a análise de concordância entre as variáveis, foi aplicada estatística Kappa com ponderação quadrática. Para exame da associação entre variáveis de imagem corporal e o IMC, foram calculados mediana, média, desvio padrão e intervalo de confiança de 95% de IMC para cada categoria das variáveis de imagem corporal. Em geral, a concordância entre as variáveis de imagem corporal foi de razoável a boa e, entre essas e a variável estado nutricional, foi de regular a razoável. Melhores resultados foram observados entre meninos e entre alunos de escolas privadas. Todas as variáveis de imagem corporal apresentaram bom poder discriminatório para o IMC, quando analisado como variável contínua, mesmo quando controlados potenciais fatores de confusão. A pergunta sobre corpo parece ser melhor do que aquela sobre peso para compor o questionário de um sistema de vigilância de fatores de risco e proteção à saúde para adolescentes.

The aim of the study was to examine the correlation among different indicators of body image; between each one of these and nutritional status; and the association of these indicators with the Body Mass Index (BMI) of adolescents. A random sample of 152 students from public and private schools in the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, was studied. On four occasions, two silhouette scales and two questions regarding the opinion of the student about his/her body and weight were applied and weight and height were measured. The BMI was examined both as a continuous and as a categorical variable. The agreement between the variables was analyzed using the quadratic weighted Kappa statistics. The association between body image variables and BMI was examined by the comparison among median, mean, standard deviation and 95% confidence interval of BMI for each category of the body image variables. In general, the correlation among the body image variables ranged from reasonable to good; between these and the variable nutritional status, correlation ranged from regular to reasonable. Best results were observed among boys and students from private schools. All body image variables showed good discriminatory power for BMI, when it was analyzed as a continuous variable, even when controlling for potential confounders. The question about body seems to be better than that about weight to compose the questionnaire of a surveillance system for risk and protective factors for adolescent health.

O metil metacrilato (MMA) é um monômero que se polimeriza em resina pela ação da luz e do calor, transformando-se em plástico claro, resistente e durável, relativamente inerte. Por apresentar tais características, o MMA tem sido muito usado na Medicina, como cimento ósseo, e na Odontologia, em aparelhos e próteses dentais, o que tem suscitado interesse na avaliação de sua toxicidade. Estudos experimentais e clínicos têm mostrado que os monômeros podem causar uma gama de efeitos adversos. A principal via de exposição ocupacional ao MMA é a inalatória. Este trabalho visa a avaliar a ação tóxica do MMA sobre o epitélio traqueal em relação ao tempo de exposição. Para isso, dois grupos experimentais de ratos foram expostos ao MMA por inalação, com restrição de ventilação: um grupo (n = 36) foi exposto continuamente, e outro (n = 36) foi exposto durante oito horas diárias, sem água e comida durante o período de exposição. Um grupo controle (n = 8) recebeu ar normal. Doze animais de cada grupo de estudo foram sacrificados com 5, 8 e 10 dias de exposição, junto com dois ou quatro animais do grupo controle. Vinte e nove (80,5%) dos ratos expostos continuamente ao MMA apresentaram inflamação do epitélio traqueal, assim como 58,33% (n = 21) daqueles expostos 8 horas/dia e 87,5% (n = 7) dos controles. Não se observou associação entre o processo inflamatório e a exposição ao MMA, nem alterações significativas na medida da espessura do epitélio traqueal. Novos estudos, com tempo mais prolongado de exposição e análise de outros parâmetros, devem ser realizados para que seja excluída, totalmente, a possibilidade de dano traqueal por vapores de MMA.

Methyl methacrylate (MMA) is a monomer that is polymerized into resin by light and heat, producing a clear, resistant, durable and relatively inert plastic material. Because of these characteristics, MMA is largely used in Medicine as bone cement and in Dentistry, in dental braces and prostheses, thus generating continuous interest in its toxicity. Experimental and clinical studies have documented that monomers may cause a wide range of adverse health effects. The most important occupational exposure route of MMA is by inhalation. This study aims to evaluate the toxicity of MMA to the tracheal epithelium, according to the time of exposure. For this purpose, two experimental groups of rats were exposed to MMA by inhalation under poor ventilation: one group (n = 36) was exposed permanently, and the other (n = 36) was exposed during 8 hours per day, without water and food supply during the exposure period. A control group (n = 8) received normal air supply. Twelve animals of each study group were sacrificed after 5, 8 and 10 days of exposure together with two or four control animals. Twenty-nine (80.5%) of the rats continuously exposed to MMA developed inflammation on the tracheal epithelium, as well as 58.33% (n = 21) of those exposed 8 h/day and 87.5% (n = 7) of the control rats. No association was observed between the inflammatory process and MMA exposure; no significant alterations in the tracheal epithelium thickness were observed. Further studies on longer exposure times and analysis of other parameters will have to be conducted to exclude the possibility of tracheal damage by vapors of MMA.
